About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Leaning French! Oh, and Italian, and...

ABOUT ME

Hi, my name is Marcus and I'm a 24 year old computer science student from Berlin.
But studying computer science doesn't mean I'm a boring computer person ;-)
Mostly I'm a very talkative and funny guy.

PHILOSOPHY

Somehow to me life seems far too complicated to put it into a philosophy or something ;-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Spreading the word... :-)
Also hosting people in Berlin as I have time.

Currently I haven't been that active because I had a lot to do with university and have been traveling a lot during term breaks. I hope I can be more active again!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted quite a few people now here in Berlin and it's been a great experience.
I've also surfed a few couches around Europe and I've met some really nice people both while hosting and while surfing other people's couches.

Two real interesting trips have been cycling from Berlin to Birmingham with Couchsurfing along the way and Doing a two week cycling trip through Switzerland staying at lots of different peoples places.

Interests

Music (see below), literature, doing lots of sports (cycling, hiking, rowing, etc.) traveling other countries and experiencing the culture there, drinking beer with friends, discussing everything and nothing :-), playing board games, playing and developing computer games

Music, Movies, and Books

Well this is the section which always gets horribly out of date. Not that I don't like those things below anymore... it's just that you continuously get to know more stuff and the things that define you right now, might not be that relevant a year on. Anyway, this is quite old, I need to update this at some point :-). (A somewhat newer version is here: http://www.bewelcome.org/members/Bubu)

Monty Python!!! And I really like older Movies from the 70s and 80s (Taxi Driver, Sergio Leone Films, etc.). They're not as hectic as today's films. It's good to see some scenes for more than a second ;-)

I'm all in for rock music, especially the old school 70s and 80s rock. By now it's also the 60's :-)
Some bands I really like, are Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Neil Young, The Doors, ... this list could go on for a while.
Oh, and the german rock musician, singer-songwriter and poet Heinz Rudolf Kunze is just ingenious.

I've just read "The End Is My Beginning" from Tiziano Terzani, this sure is a great book. You can learn much about other cultures and one gets to know them.
Also I'm currently reading a lot of H.P. Lovecraft's short stories. Next will finally be Animal Farm :-)
My favourite book is probably Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking in the Alps, waking up in the early morning stepping out of the hut where we slept. Taking in the amazing view across the valley and the opposing mountain range.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always interested in learning about different cultures or even just different cities in my own country ;-)

I could teach you about theoretical computer science, automatons and formal languages (I teached that at University)... but probably not too many of you will be interested :-)
But I guess there are quite a lot of other things to talk about ;-).

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Denmark, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany
