Couch picture

Couch Available: Maybe
Preferred Gender: Any
Max Surfers Per Night: 1

Shared Sleeping Surface: No
Shared Room: Depends

The main room for guests is the living room, so it´s a common area. Eventually we can manage people to one of the bedrooms, to sleep in a hammock or so.

I live in Parque 10,a district far from the city centre. I live with three friends that study with me. We have a mattress as couch, and maybe a hammock, and also there´s floor room. We have no pets, no one smokes and if you smoke you should go outside. Buses to the city centre and Ponta Negra (Negro River beach) are available. From Ponta Negra you can get boats to farther beaches.

Inside the Institute, somewhat close to home, there is the 'Bosque da Ciência', which is a nice park with animals, both free or raised, and where you can see the manatees in water tanks, part of a research and conservational project for the species.

I don´t work/study full-time and though I´m always busy, I usually can make my schedule, so it´s easy to find some time to show you around, and have some beer at almost any day of the week (No beer for the next few months... Medical treatment!). Still, weekends are always better. Two days is a nice period, but if we do get along, even a week would be fine.

The picture shows my old 'couch' when I lived in Tefe, up the river from Manaus. Soon I´ll manage to post a picture of my current place.

Personal Description

I like to go out in the rain, ride horses, watch seahorses and coral reefs deep in the ocean, take pictures, drive listening to good music, kiss, feel the breeze in my face, have fun and beer with my friends, meet new people, see new places, experience new situations, discover new things.

I like the change, but it hurts sometimes. It hardens your heart, but it also opens your mind.

How I Participate in CS

I promote and preach about couchsurfing to my friends and people I meet. I'm an ambassador, and I'm trying to take on my new duties.

CouchSurfing Experience

First was August 2005, I've stayed in the house of an internet friend who I had exchanged only a couple of messages before, in an art site, and I told her I was going to spend one night in her city, and she said "come to my place!". It was just a few hours I had there, and she got her car and showed me around. After a beer or two and some fried fish on a beach in Negro River, we went back to her place, and I was so tired I slept in her car. She took good care of me. At first I thought it could be somewhat dangerous, but it turned out to be a wonderful experience! Her mother was great too, I've met her in the morning, and she is a biologist and researcher, with much in common to me. And now I hope I can couchsurf all the time I'm away from home!

One month in Europe, March 2006, mostly couchsurfing! That was the trip of my life, met so many nice people, had so much fun!

Types of People I enjoy

I like outgoing people who like to share some good moments, who have a clever sense of humour and a nomad spirit

Teach, Learn, Share

I worked as a Naturalist Guide in the Amazon, what I usually like to share are my experiences and pictures of the region. I can also play the harmonica a bit, do some magic tricks, talk about nature, take good pictures (according to my friends), show you some different music from my extensive collection, teach you how to sleep in every class or lecture, train you in being absent-minded and in how to loose your keys everyday...

One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done

Living in Pantanal and Amazon, being face-to-face with a jaguar in nature.

Europe for 33 days... 7 countries, 11 couches (6 official CSers, plus 5 couches of friends and friends of friends), 2 nights in airports, a sore foot, and lots of new friends... Couchsurfing is really one of my best experiences in life!

Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org Project

This is a tremendous idea, it's so good you can't figure out how we could live without it! It's not just about saving money, but mainly about making new friends and experiencing the local way of life.

To stay with Carlos in Manaus was a great experience. He is a fantastic host, showed us around, helped us booking a great trip to the jungle and impressed me with his knowledge about films and music. We could always count on him. Carlos, go travelling and meet us!

Well, he was intrudeced by one of the craziest CS spirits I met. To me, it really counts.
Easygoing guy, always ready to laugh. We had great time in Belem, partying, drinking, eating. Absolutely a good mate to hang on.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
all your life
you were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

When I remember Carlos, this music comes to my mind. Maybe because he works with birds, maybe because we are both Beatlemaniacs, maybe because we both love to travel and ours plans are living like this, like a bird flying. Looking forward on see you again!

Carlos was nice enough to meet up with us on short notice and show us around a few parts of São Paulo, and showed us an amazing view of the city from one of the highest buildings. Even though it was a short meeting, I enjoyed talking with him and his advice was very helpful. Thanks again and good luck in the Amazon!

I met Carlos in the Amazon, where we used to work in the same nature reserve. He is a wonderful warmhearted person and I always felt very comfortable in is presence. He invited me the first time we met and so his couch and home became mine everytime I was in town... he is a real couchsurfer who truly lives CS philosophy!!!
I am really lucky that I could meet you and share my intensive Mamirauá experiences with you, Carlos! And thank you for telling me about CS, with this you continue enriching my life even from the distance! :-) Saudades viu...

Carlos is a wonderfully sensitive guy. Freely opened his home and entertained us for hours with his excellent dvd/cd collection. Thoughtful, understanding and open, enabling us to feel comfortable from the first moment we met. Passionate about wildlife and ecosystems, extending his knowledge to us as he was our guide on the reserve.

Thank you for a memorable christmas :) the cd and friendship. Truly hope our paths cross again in the future! Somewhere in Europe maybe?? :)

Please please please keep in touch! xx

Carlos eats the blankets of Australians! After 32 hours spent in planes and airports I downed my 6th coffee for the morning and went into Amsterdam to meet Carlos for another one. We had an awesome day walking the streets of Amsterdam, hunting down Ramones t-shirts in the markets and surfing mosaic couches (Dude, its a Doner not a Doonah!) I had an amazing time chillin (literally!) with Carlos and recommend that every one of you get your ass to the Amazon to hang out with him (Australians and New Zealanders may need to take an interpreter). Take care man!

Perfect guest... He stayed one night in frankfurt and I must say he´s the best guest you could have. Also after a 16-hours-flight he didn´t want to spend the short time with sleeping....snowball fight, playing cards with one of my friends, some cider, good music and nice conversations!! Wish you a great time in europe and hope to see you some time again in Brazil! ....greetings to your friend Leo;)
