It was a pleasure to meet you, to host you and to do all that much we were able to do together in such a short time. Keep the "monster" growing nicely and sweet and don't work too much :-)

Casey is awesome! He has a heart much larger than most people. He has a uniquely genuine desire to change the world for the better. He has definitely made me want to do the same.

 

Casey has been so sweet to me! Put me up for days in Berkeley when I was in trouble! Always helped me out when in need. I am infinitely thankful him, haven't a complaint in the world! He's super pleasant conversation and he's always smiling.

 

Casey is one of these people that can connect with anyone within a few seconds of meeting them, making them feel that they have been his friends forever.
He held a great speech during the Vienna Calling meeting and I was truly impressed of the professionalism that both he and his colleagues demonstrated during the whole 4-day meeting.
That he is politically savvy and can control a big group of people is definitely one of his core strengths, but I was even more impressed with the way he connected to my CS host that I introduced to him during the Sunday barbecue (she had been to shy to approach him herself). Casey immediately made her feel comfortable and spent several minutes talking to her.

I believe Casey is a very humble person that is doing a great thing for the world with the invention of the couchsurfing project. I hope I will be able to help out on this journey more in the future and to have to opportunity to spend more time with him in the future, in short: Great guy!

 

I met Casey on the Vienna Calling amb meeting and the party after that. Silent guy, I've expected something else and so it was a nice and pleasant surprise! Meet you in the Hungarian Wintercamp!

 

Casey is for me a person who works not loud but very constructive and impressive. I admire this kind of working. Therefore I personally have to thank him for CS. Without CS and so without his organizing guidelines the world would be very very poor. So Casey,go on in the future for CS and never stop. You have to take care.

 

Cassey is a very warm person with a positive inclusive spirit. Felt not only from what he says but also from the vibrations which he radiates, and seen in his eyes(the window to the soul).

Casey? Of course he don't need a reference! But met him was really a big pleasure, especially feel how many energy and passion he put inside this mission called Couch Surfing. He had a good idea and the good idea always can make the difference, but, maybe, more then this he had power and determination to transform the idea in a wonderful, concrete project. I had already established a connection with him from volunteering with the site for a few years, so I already had a great appreciation for his charming self ;)

I really got to know him a lot better while I was at basecamp whether it was interviewing him with fun questions or having him convince me to go to Nimby (which btw you were totally right, that was an experience I am glad I did not miss). Casey truly is a one-of-a-kind.

I am so glad to have finally met you and thanks again for making SF an amazing trip.

Casey has always offered up a firm handshake or welcoming hug the times I've met him. I met him the first time at Basecamp's Heaven and Hell Party although he was probably a little 'out of it' to remember ;). For a person who founded such a kickass resource Casey is quite the down-to-earth type-a guy. A totally upbeat cat with a sense of humor and dry wit to burn. I look forward to getting know him better. :)

Humble, quirky, lovable & dedicated beyond words. The way in which Casey truly engages with you in conversation makes you feel like you are the only two existing at that moment. It was with a great pleasure to meet Casey several time during this big event. This guy have change my goal few months after starting my rwt by discovering his vision of the world and i'm very proud to give my time to accomplish what is now our mission.

The scene was his brother Jesse's place in Boston. I had been a member of CouchSurfing for about half a year, and being a programmer, I had begun to have thoughts of volunteering in order to give back to this wonderful community. Thats when Casey stepped in and implanted the thoughts of "do it".

Casey's tireless work ethic is something to admire. As the evening in Boston wore down, Casey began working, and I don't think I've seen him stop yet.

 

I first met Casey in the summer of 2004 while travelling in Alaska. Our paths have crossed several times since then. This fall I had the pleasure and honor of hosting Casey and several persons special to him. Thanks so much, Casey, for all you've done with couchsurfing, and the friends you've brought into my life!

I was almost star-struck when I met Casey! I had learned about him and admire him for all of the work that he has done. What a great organization! It was a true pleasure meeting him and hopefully I can continue to assist him and Couchsurfing! I was very happy to do something helpful for the HQ team. Keep up the great work! Just to say tanks to create CS. I met him during a dinner at Rory's place,we talked a lot about food, his vegetarian choise,his family, his travel.. but he did't tell me nothing about his role in the Cs machine...i just descovered now when i receive an official message and i looked at his picture. Casey is a friend, a fellow celebrator of life and a solid, dynamic and creative individual. As with all my friends Casey has enriched my life simply by our shared moments together. His heart is open with his faced turned to the sun. I have no doubt we will continue to share moments, conversations and festivities together.

 

The founder of couchsurfing can only be a man who lights a beach fire in the dusk and is non fussed by the approach of a dark-looking stranger, simply delighting in the fellow human curiosity of a passer-by…..he didn’t know it was my friend, Mahdi, who’d I asked to come along! Maintaining openness and trust in people is an important challenge in this age.

 

Casey visited with mutual friends in the Hudson River valley of New York. He was hosted by a host couple who described him as a "marvelous" guest. He was an attentive, articulate, honest presenter about Couchsurfing and someone who communicates immediate trust and respect -- in both directions, evidencing his good faith.

Casey, and I have really looked at many things with the same view, from, conversations about El Salvador, to many that have had us meeting , and indeed will keep us coming back for more in the future.

Casey is a man who has many DREAMS and GOALS, and indeed he does fight for them and is persistant with his goals.

I have enjoyed our conversations .. and yet we have many more ...

Indeed, if he needs a couch host him . :)

Cacey made me feel welcome in the CS house, he is kind and a lot of fun to be arround.If he starts throwing grapes in the air you'd better get ready to catch them with your mouth!!

 

Casey is great at motivating the entire team to achieve their best. He makes collective life and working fun. Glad to have finally met in Alaska, looking forward to more great times CouchSurfing!

 

Casey plays a mean game of pool, and that is extremely important in a plethora of situations. I only hung out with him enough to wish that he lived in my town for a longer period of time. But, he's a traveler, so I understand-- those are my favorite people.

Anytime I was in a conversation with Casey be it about traveling, cooking, financial stuff, or whatever I always felt that he was focused on the discussion, interested in what I had to say, and was genuine in his response. He was very welcoming to me at the collective and helped me to feel comfortable. See you again.

 

Casey has provided an amazing opportunity of shared experiences by founding this site, and his love for travel and meeting people warms the cockles of my heart. He has this incredible presence that just makes me smile whenever we cross paths.

What a small world it is, Casey's cousins are two of my good friends in Cape Cod. I wish I could have gotten to know him more but good vibes all around...

I met Casey some time ago on CS meeting in Rotterdam. For a long time I had no idea that such a fame is around hehe :D It was a breif meeting ended up with a positive impression about that guy :) Good job man!!!

 

Inspite of his fame :-), Casey is just that chill and very social guy, carefully listening to whomever he meets - prepare to be struck by his intense "kid's stare with an edge" :-) which will make you feel being considered!
I got lucky to bump into him several times throughout the Swiss WE and thus enjoy his various sides, be it when being almost shily introduced to "magic" beer cocktails - come on, you must've been gone through crazier things than this ;-) - or more seriously answering my (probably still naive) questions about the whole CS project.
Inspite of the mild controversy surrounding CS which to me doesn't compromise its purpose generally - just google :-) his name if you're curious! - I will always be highly grateful for the tremendous impact CS already had on my life (and on some many others') in its current form, and in such a short time!
So, like he seems to usually do when writing references ;-), I'll send him back the thank you's thousandfold - THANK YOU, RESPECT!

Finally I met my idol Casey who change my travel life forever! He is truly the trusted leader that listen and get job done. We had great time chatting & partying together at CS Paella Switzerland. See you again in this small CS world!

And that's already the answer to the question that arises the moment you see him: How many freckles has this guy? The answer – again – is easy: One! It looks like there are my, but I think they're all connected and thus making up just one. Not that I really studied that too thouroughly since he's one of the guys whom you actually look into his eyes when you talk to him. For he's got this piercing look. Or maybe not piercing but rather one that seems to show – depending on the situation, but no matter how tired he is (and believe me: I've seen him very tired a few times in Eisenstadt ;-D) – a really great interest in what you're saying or joy in what he's doing or focus on what he thinking/talking about. Which is the next thing you'll find out about: He can be an extremely focused guy. No wonder he played a not too minor role in creating all this here;-) And then there are the other things that make him a very likable fellow: like his (typical American) approachability, his very open and kind attitude and that he is the kind of guy you can very easily imagine to have some work to do with just as well as a beer, a chat, a quickie, a laugh – you name it! I admit that before I met him at the EU Collective in Eisenstadt/Vienna I speculated that he might be of a bit of a vain peacock what with his name at the bottom of every singe CS page and in all the groups (without his intention though: "…Casey, code this…" / "Casey fix that, please…") and his face on the main page and so on…But after having met him I cannot do anything else but to quote babe's father: "When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong " (not the Aussie pig but the one who nobody puts in a corner!!!). He's a really nice and down-to-earth fellow: meet him, have fun with him and a cool and interesting time!
Update: Let the usual retarded call me Casey's bully or one of his blind believers (or whatever even less witty crap they manage to come up with...) - but I for one am happy to have this freckled midget and his likes lead our cozy lil' community the way they've done so far!

 

I have deep respect and admiration for Casey, who truly lives his truth. His dedication to the CouchSurfing project is unwavering. He is professional, enthusiastic, open-minded, devoted and kind. His joy of life is contagious. Get to know Casey; your life will be enriched by the experience. Mine is!

 

We met in Switzerland at the Paella 2008 and had some inspiring conversations about CS concept and mission.
Casey is a nice and modest guy. Even though he became so famous he hasn't lost his CS identity.

Casey and I met briefly at Vince's kick ass Paella '08 party and spoke about the people we mutually know back in the US. He was so sweet and easy to talk to. I hope to see him in San Fran for the burning man decompression party ; )

Collective 2006, Paella 2007 and 2008, Vienna Calling 2009 - there seems to be some kind of pattern that we meet for a couple of days somewhere in central Europe each summer :o) Working with Casey is absolutely interesting and inspiring but hanging out, talking, partying, dancing and celebrating is even much more fun!

Come visit us in Asia next year so that we can continue our pattern and also go to this beach party we spoke about! :o)

Thank you for creating what we all love so much - without CS I would have never found out that people really travel the way I have always wanted to travel, but hesitated because I thought I might be the only one... Without you we would not be starting a 5 year round-the-world trip next week ;o)

It was nice to see Casey walk into our CS gathering in Bangkok. Although we met for a short while, he was in a rush to get to the airport!

I met Casey again at the Vienna calling 2009. We enjoyed breakfast and good conversation on the deck in the sun on the top of the roof.

Well.. all the words to describe Casey are on the other references, so I would repeat the same words again! Even being very famous he his a very polite guy and always great to be around him!
And when You travel around Portugal You will find the largest (and mostly clean) train toilets on the regional trains (I still have to ask myself how I started this kind of conversation!)

I met Casey while couchsurfing at Patryk's home in Berlin. We ate some awesome food, then Rachel, Casey and I were led around Berlin in hopes of seeing some crazy riots, build up in our minds by Patryk, only to have an anticlimactic long walk home. Nevertheless, Casey is an amazing person and as someone new to CouchSurfing, it was great to feel like I got to know more behind the idea and the mission first-hand.

Casey what can I say, cute as a bunny. I met him at one of the Toronto burner parties north of Toronto and then we spent Halloween in San Francisco in 2006 and partied at the Couch Surfing camp in 2007!

I finally did it Casey! I finally got off my butt and wrote this! alright, so there are way too many good references out there about Casey... so let me be the first to say that this guy is something sub-par, sub-culture, weird, a man living on the edge while cultivating wild concoctions of phantasmal manifestations of fun... not to mention he is an itchy-footed wanderlust of a vagabond moreso than any bum I have ever met...

....but what is there not to love about itchy-footed vagabond anyways? Ok... I fail at writing something trashy about you Casey, but instead I managed to write something asymmetrical and weird (my homage to Dada and Dadaists.) But I will if I don't see you at the burn this year! :P

Well I was so open to Casey surfing my place - having met Jesse i figured he would be pretty rooted etc but still I thought this is the guy who started it all ... wow!

Well he came, we'd a number of guests and a really nice dinner evening and it was very enjoyable. I have to say that personally I found Casey both rooted and ordinary and yet at the same time a really special person who had insight understanding and empathy for all he met - throw in a really cool sense of humour, a can-help attitude and an intellect brimming with ideas, meant that Casey, if he had never founded CS, would be in that special group of people I call my good friends.

This group dont necessarily do loads of things together but they understand each other and frequency of contact is irrelevant ... that been said I hope Casey surfs my couch soon!!

I really dont know what I expected to see when I met Casey, but it must have been something else cause I got totally surprised by the guy. it was a pleasant surprise, I must say. we just had dinner together but in those few hours we talked a lot. or should I say I talked a lot? cause C has the ability of asking intelligent questions non-stop and he genuinely cares about what you have to say. I really enjoyed my time with him, he's very calm and polite. and he's got the cutest freckles ever! Thanks a million for creating CS, hope to see you in South America in October, and this time I'll ask the questions! :)

Casey dropped in for a day, we started off with some nice asian noodles. my apologies for my rachel and joanna, maybe i should have locked them away for lunch time ;) Later i gave him possibly the least exciting tour of places where anarchists beat the shit out of police on may 1st in berlin. thanks for giving my stove back the bling it usually has for CS parties, i wish i had documented that moment! in any way, you da man casey, thanks for all!

 

I had now clue what to expect when meeting Casey. He isnt the "chairman or founder-celebrity" as some might think but a very nice, social, sympathic guy. He answers to critical or uncomfortable questions and reveals interesting facts and stories about CS. See you next time somewhere on CS.

Casey is hard to describe in a Box. I was happily surprised by the person I meet. Most of all intuitively I sensed an integrity and honesty about the guy. He's a magnificent people person and by that I mean he clearly cares about people. It's inspiring to see someone so dedicated to his well thought out ideals about CouchSurfing and about the World. I was also impressed by the fact that he was so gracious with all the things he ordered. All of us basically ate all his fries and a good piece of his Chocolate brownie. Very nice guy who I look forward to having intriguing discussions in the future with and that I also look forward to helping in whatever way I can.
Just remember, 43 pieces of rust don't make a baloon. (Dali' smiles)

 

Casey is a gentle soul. He genuinely cares about learning; learning about people, places, and experiences. He's grown to be a good friend for me and I recommend anyone that gets a chance to meet him, does; you're guaranteed a great experience and even better conversation. Casey and I first met at the Skytrain's Escalator in BKK:)It is a pleasure and a great impression for me to meet the guy as i kind of imagine him in my head differently but he is, indeed, a very pleasant and loveable person to talk to. We are glad he and the team dropped by in BKK and meet all of us, also appreciated that he got thru the spontanous Q&A time we had at that nite:)
He got a chance to see how wonderful the CS friendship had created by experienced my surprised B-day party organized secretly within less than 24 hrs by BKK crew.That said all how much CS made us such a strong and warm group.

Not that he needs more references, aint much I can say that hasnt already been said hundreds of times, but its always smiles with this cat. Met back in Montreal in 2005 at a gathering, caught up once again at CSC Pai then lasagna and drag shows in Bangkok. Wonder where we will meet up next? Breeze easy and travel well!!!

I consider Casey to be a role model to me over the past few years. He has guided me in many fashions. Once he sent me on a mission that pushed & challenged me in every way. I wasn't strong enough to finish. But I finished anyway and became a better person because of it. Another time, he motivated me in the right direction to be more of an honest and upfront person with my words towards others. I too responded to this and again came out ahead. I consider these to be among two of life's many great lessons. 2 years past meeting we have come a long way as much as I changed I too see continual evolving within himself. He dreams big, critical thinker, & my favorite politican. Fenton/Stone in 08! Let's do a write in vote on the ballot : )

 

How can you not love Casey, he knows how to live in style. I have been along for some good times with Casey, most notably partying like rock stars at Stingray and his ability to actually get me off my ass and dance. He has also given me some great advice on living, loving, and learning. I always look forward to the next chance I get to hang with him.

I met Casey out front of my guest house and we started chatting. We both grew up in Maine and I thought he looked familiar and then I realized I've seen his face a hundred times logging on at CS! We got a few beers and had a great time hanging out. But it was only some beers for one night, not enough. Casey man, you are a great guy and I had a good time meeting you, may the future bring us some more adventures in travel!

What an honor and a privilege it was to meet Casey at the Thai CS Collective- especially after spending the past year couchsurfing in 34 different countries. It was amazing to be able to thank him, in person, for all of the work he has done for all of us over the years! Wow! What I found in Casey was an extremely intelligent, friendly, fun guy who is also very humble and down to earth. He truly loves to live life to the fullest. He has an easy smile, and is so welcoming and kind. He also knows how to get down in his fuzzy pink bear outfit. :)

Casey is constantly doing whatever he can to make CS even better- wearing countless hats and working countless hours to make the site, and the community- which is the heart of CS, even better.. always looking at all of the angles. The thing is, that he's able to do all of this both calmly and wisely while keeping the atmosphere fun and open. Thanks, so much Casey! I'm glad to call you a friend. :)

Casey is a wonderful soul who has a great out look on life. He is fun to travel with...it always ends up an adventure...

 

It was great to watch Casey in action at the CS Collective in Pai, Thailand. He is a brilliant person and a dynamic leader. I'm truly humbled and comforted to know that there are people like Casey out in the world. Fair winds and safe travels Casey!

 

I was fortunate to spend a few days with Casey in Pai and while Casey is rightfully lauded for CS, I was most impressed by him as a person. He leads by example with honour, integrity and humility.

WhiskeyStation Pai forever! Casey is a caring person and the best thing I found out about him at the Thai Collective was his ability to listen to everyone and his genuine want to see everyone happy so the team in Pai could do some serious good for CS. And they are!

I was really my Honour to meet the Founder of Couch Surfing! He is actually one of the very few people on Earth who has made this World a Better place to live in.
I say One should definitely meet Him to get the Positive Vibe he always carries with him.

We were honored to host Casey and Hillary on their stop-over in Honolulu. They were great guests, whom we wished we could host longer! Thank you Casey, for all that you have done for our community...I do hope that you will find a day to solely enjoy for yourself and not have to worry so much about all of us! - ps -I wont be drinking tequila ever again :) haha :)

 

Some sunday 6am. Me bringing Tiina back to her apartment in Rotterdam after a meeting in Belgium. The CS-tech team was at that moment staying there. I knew you guys were crazy but respect for still programming at that time of the day. (Well respect for programming this website in general). Since Casey and the gang was so busy with solving problems I decided to bring them some liquid Belgian gold and some Polish blond ;) a couple of days later. Hope you have learned now casey that you should never mix Belgian beer ;). Always welcome to try out the other 836 beers!

September 2002: Snowy and ten below outside, I've got a glass of red wine and am doing a routine chat-up of an attractive stranger whose name is Casey, "I'm working on this website, but I don't know if you'd be the kind of person to try it." LOL! Almost five long CrazyBeautiful adventure-filled years later, I've got 19 entry stamps in my passport and CouchSurfed countries from Andora to Wales. i met casey at a cs meeting and we had a great conversation about the cs spirit and i think we have the same!

Deserve the NOBEL PRICE of something they did not creat yet.
Nobel price of hospitality for exemple, or nobel price for crazy idea.

Not every CouchSurfer gets to host the creator of it all. At first I was a little nervous about the idea, but when I met Casey I realized how ridiculous I was being because he's so down-to-earth, easy to talk to and passionate. After talking with Casey and his friends I understand how hard the administrators are working to keep the CouchSurfing ideals at the forefront as the community grows and grows. They deserve so much credit for their commitment and superhuman work ethics. I'm glad I was able to show him and his friends my Yosemite and give them a break from sitting in front of a computer. Thank you for creating such a caring community and giving everyone of us the chance to make the world a better place just by sharing and experiencing life together.

 

One adventure after another. Whether it's 10,000 feet above sea level in Maui, 1,000 feet underneath it in a New Mexican cave, a deserted beach in New Zealand, or on the crazy streets of San Francisco, I keep finding myself having the best times with this guy. We've crossed the globe together and still have a lot left to explore. It just keeps getting better, doesn't it?

Casey is a very nice person and we meted lots of times at De Consul in Rotterdam and at Rotterdam Collective.

Even if this meeting experience was a professional one, I felt Casey's devotion and passion for the Couch Surfing project. The guy built the system! He was nice, funny and very cleaver. I would have continue that conversation further, but the show must go on as they say!

 

I met Casey during my Burning Man trip and I really enjoyed to talk by person with him. We had a short time together but I am hoping to host him in Florence soon or late! :)

As the founder of CS, Casey's reputation doesn't need any help from me. We're working on forging an alliance between US Servas and CS and we had a great time getting that started at my house in 2008. Casey's accomplished something wonderful in creating CS but it doesn't seem to have gone to his head.

 

He's Casey (nuff said, almost). He's actually down to earth, personable, and out there engaging people. That's his best quality: to be out there amongst the community helping build those personal bridges between people. It's a great time every time we meet up.

 

The founder and dreamer of CS. Done more by the time he's 30 then many have dreamed of in a life time and even had his impact on the world. With that said he's got a management nightmare and needs all the good help he can get and all the slack we can give him. Well done Casey, hope to see you at Burning man some time soon.

 

Casey is my bro, yo. If you know Maslow...then you know what I'm saying when I say that Casey equals Manifestation. He is an inspiration to me, and a point of light in the clusterfrak. I love that when we cross paths, so much is said without actually saying anything at all. Thanks, Case.

Casey's a mad late night coder, has a true appreciation for a beautiful sunset, and can pull off a fur coat/bunny ears outfit better than anyone I know. He's a 'sweet as' guy and the world is a better place with him in it.

Most people dont' understand, but living in Brownfield Maine makes people friends permanantly, most often because everyone is related. I've known Casey since his ti80 super-calculator helped me pass Geometry. That was back in 1994, oh yeah! beat that! We were just young whipper-snappers then--he used to make DOOM levels with secret switches that would crush the world on me. I'm still a little sore about that...anyway! old school! Lots of stories I could put here!

I think Casey is the most grounded individual, and is absolutely mad to live. He's a go-getter and a leader, paving the way for others to follow.

Had a great time getting ready for BM with a load of other people piled up in a house with fur exploded all over the place. Costumes, costumes, costumes!

 

The man with the dream. The leader of leaders. He has taught me many things and I finally had the great pleasure of taking in some of the 2007 burn with him after years of emails.

Open your mind, open your heart, and Casey will be there to teach you a thing or too as well, but to also listen to you and see what you can teach him.

What is there more to say on someone like Casey ? As all been really said now ? I only know him as a dedicated colleague and I've been chronically avoiding working too much with him in real life, but I know that through our passion (call that obsession) we are making a difference in.. our lives first, and in our friend's life.. and our friends of a friend's... On a more personal side, he's got a twisted humor and always looks calm (or rather tired), not taking himself too seriously and is therefore quite nice to "hang out" with !

 

He is the kind of person that makes you wonder about what you are doing with your own life, dreams and goals...cause he's living his dreams every minute of the day!

Casey is a man of true deication. Never in my life have I seen someone give so much for something they believe so much in, even to the point where they hurt themselves. Casey is also the most friendly and loving guy I have ever met. There truely is not a bit of negativity in this guy. And throughout all of the stress of keeping this show running, he somehow still manages to have conversations with you about personal things where you truely get to know one and other.
Actually, one word would some my whole experience with him up: WOW!

I was intrigued before the first time I met him... and when that's happen I discovered a wonderful person, simple, who work like nobody, totally dedicated to CS, and who like to take the time to have fun too when is the time to do that! After im now member since more then 2,5 years i finally mat Casey at the CS Paella in Switzerland! We missed the year before a few hours at the CS Eisenstadt Collective when i arrive that day he left. It was a pleasure to talk with Casey a bit about CS and other stuff and he is really nice guy to talk. I hope it wont take so long time again, that we will met again and can share before our brainstorm about CS.

What to say? We got invited into the Couchsurfing via Walter Heck, and from then on the party was only started.
It was a great offer to have Casey over the floor, and cook for him. His idea's from beginning 'till now on couchsurfing is just tremendous, and we can't wait to meet again.

What can one say about Casey what hasn't been said yet? We first met at the Collective, shared a lot of jokes, had some serious discussions about CS and talked through the nights. Then he joined the CouchSurfing Paella 2007 at my place and we had a blast again! Thanks for coming to my place!!

CouchSurfing BBQ. well, i served da ball on his head!! :-) when u wanna pick him up from the trainstation and surprise him, make sure that he has not the chance to surprise YOU from the backside! :-) that man carried our heavy sign through the whole town... yeah mr.fenton rules!! well this 3 days passed way toooo fast! what a pity that the officials didn´t let us follow the samba train - grrr but a real couchsurfer do not care and also not to sleep, grill, swim and play soccer in the wild! thanks a lot for your visit casey! it was great to have ya around! and yes he is one of the rare american who knows the diff btw football and soccer! Just meet shortly at Paella through Jelena, but he seemed to me a really cool and honest guy with just the right amount of crazyness and adventure in him. Cu sure on another meeting with more time to chat.

 

I finally met the man behind the curtain and i think he stole my wallet... but then i found it in the other pocket - that sneaky wallet pocket switcher. And now on to the praise part of my reference: One has to admire such vision and followthrough... Casey is an inspiration - and beyond that, he's actually a really nice guy. I hope he keeps in mind just how many lives he's changed for the better through this amazing idea, and remembers that what he's created is more than a website, it's a way of life. If this is Oz, Casey is our wizard.

Casey is the founder of CS and doing a great job of maintaining the site, besides this he has a great personality.

 

I met Casey first time at the Collective in Rotterdam and was immediately taken by his open, friendly and helpful personality. He is easy to talk to and open to any good suggestion (as long as you can mange to pull him away long enough from franticly coding for CS on his Laptop :-) and is devoting all his time+passion to CouchSurfing and the CS Community. It is easy to see that the Idea of CS not only sprung from his heart but is also still very alive in there. I would describe him as a creative carer with strong skills in communication, people and taking action for what truly matters! And combined with his passion for life, that makes him an interesting person to spend time with, weather it being for work or pleasure. I'm looking forward spending more time in the future on fun and cool projects and hope that he can find more time to actually CouchSurf himself and enjoy this great community!

 

Casey is a man with very good ideas: he is (one of) the founding father(s) of Couch Surfing (and still working at the project). He did a great job, so it was nice to meet him.

 

It was great that Casey managed to make some of his busy time for a chat and I explained him some things about the dutch map, places and things to see.
Casey is friendly and open for critic/sugestions what i respect a lot in him. Mainly we shared ideas about focussing on host to find the servers in stead of diferentwise.

 

It was only when I met him that I fully understood the impact that users had on CS. He taught me that we are all part of CS, and how integral we are to its future. It has been this very concept that I have endeavored to share with others. Casey has dedicated his life to CS. In exchange I promise to help him live his dream.

 

Casey is an amazing individual. In the more than 10 years that I have been his close friend (and 4+ years his business partner), my respect for him keeps on growing. It is not only his high intelligence, his capacity for logical analytical thinking, and his charismatic communication and leadership skills that have impressed me. It is also his capacity for empathy, his commitment to personal development, his extraordinary loyalty, his integrity, and his down-to-earth values. Casey and I have shared countless personal and professional experiences over the years as we have grown together. I look forward to sharing many more.

Hm. What to say about Casey? Loved him before I even met him because ALL OF THIS HERE! He's great, open, inspiing and genereous with his great ideas. Would love to meet him again some day, with a little more time on our hands.

Casey is a wonderful - smart fun and a definite yes person. I am so pleased i have got to know him. We lived together in the nelson collective for a couple of months and also went on some excellent camping adventures. He lives and let lives and sees things in technicolor. Everytime I think about what's going on with CS, comes to my mind that this is a simple as well effective idea.
Casey had this idea and he developed it with pure passion.
Now CS is a great network of friends, with a strong spirit and, not last, gave me much more than a place to stay with a good beer, laughing with friends.

He's a great guy, he is easy going, upbeat, and definitely open to anything. I'd like to meet up with him during my travels in EUrope. If I move somewhere, you're welcome to crash on my couch/floor (depending on my location)...Hopefully I'll see him this summer when he is Europe.

 

I'll avoid mentionning energy drinks and any sentences with Cs founder in it because Casey is more than that (though I belive his body is filled with 75% of energy drinks instead of water). I had many interesting discussion with him either in the kitchen or on the dining room's couch at the CSC in Montreal. We all went camping on her mom's invitation which was awesome and I started to realise that the most extraordinary thing he did so far is to stay that simple, human, funny and understanding guy.

 

It was amazing to meet Casey! He's incredible! We had a great conversation together when I met him at CS party at Jesse's house! I really appreciate the thing that you're doing man! I strongly support you! And yeah, if you pass around Thailand, I'm sure I can give you a place to stay :)

 

One of the most intelligent people I have ever met in my life. He's a living example to me of how to fulfil one's dreams. He's a person from whom you are willing to catch every single word in any discussion (be it technical or social), because everything he says is so well thought out. What I would also like to learn from him - is staying cool and sober in the middle of The Big Happenning.

 

I don't think there are enough superlatives to describe how meaningful it was for me to host Casey and Hillary and to spend a few hours with the force behind this project that means so much to all of us. There's always a possibility that when you meet someone you consider a role model from afar, that you'll be disappointed. But Casey exceeded all my expectations. He is an incandescent soul, totally without pretense or artifice, and the beautiful energy of the Couchsurfing spirit simply radiates from him. Casey just *sees* and *receives* the people around him, and our connection filled me with indescribable joy. I will cherish this time with him always!

we met my first night in new zealand at a CS BBQ...I felt like we had known eachother forever within minutes...friendly guy, always having a good time

What else is there to say about Casey? He kept the most positive of attitudes despite hard times during the crash and inspired everyone around him. This man is living proof that dreams can indeed be realised!

surfed the couch and surfed the tent *G*. Casey is just GREAT. If he ever contacts you, you are lucky cause he cant's stay with all the 23.000 members and it's great to play soccer, go for a swim, talk about life or politics, making plans for couchsurfing, promoting couchsurfing all the way but I could not convince him to go on a motorcycle with me (although I ride that much better than a car with automatic transmission which I never had before). I really look forward to see him again soon - maybe in Austria, Alaska or some other place in the world... I would not have any concerns to give him the keys to my flat even if I'm on vacation. I consider him as a very trustworthy person.
And he was not only surfing the couch here in Vienna - he also surfed my tent in Linz at the CS meeting :)

What more can you say than Casey is awesome!? What a smart little cookie for starting a worldwide couch revolution. Hope you're enjoying Nelson + hopefully I'll see you guys down there soon!

 

Is it me or does Casey look older in his pic? Kind of tripped when this young guy showed up at my door, but he's an old soul with a great spirit wrapped up in a party animal. You keep going bro your're only gonna get greater! That may not make sense gramatically... But I know what I mean!

Casey is so much more than just a founder... he insists that he is first and foremost a fellow CS member and he truly whishes to get to know every single CSer and collect their opinions. This might sound too big and idealistic but the whole CS idea was, isn't it? And he made it reality... so I'm sure he will eventually achieve it ;)
He is simply great as a person and so much FUN to hang around with! There is much more in him than meets the eye.

Casey is someone you want to meet and talk to, because there is something about him that inspires! What a guy! He was very tired when we met at Jay's house for brunch, but we live in the same city and hopefully we will meet again and have a chance to talk some more.

The first time I met Casey was at a pre-Burning man party. Ever since that he is everywhere that I go. A great guy to get to know.

 

He's always been there! He was there when I was born. We have many good stories about the things we used to get into together. Of course you want to meet him if you get the chance!!!

I did not have the chance to get to know Casey as much as I would have liked. But the little I have seen of him is an impressive young man whom, by his only presence, brings positive energy to the people around.

Couchsurfing Elvis just left the building? Casey was a perfect couchsurfer. He also paid me to say that. Oopps. I mean, he is great. Scratch that, he's glorious. He's the one who made this new form of tourism accessible, and for that I'm going to sing his praises over and over and over again. He's also one of those great folks who just knows how to connect and listen to others around him. Stellar.

 

Your adventuring party walks into the bar... what do you do? Did you ever play D&D and think how fun it would be to travel around with this group of capable folks and get into wild adventures and slay dragons and drink mugs of beer and win over the countryside. Well... we didn't slay any dragons. Casey made the calls and had the plan. He's the Paladin/leader kind of guy. But he was so much more. He was our networking guru.

Casey Fenton, were he 40, would make a good run for president. Hell, he could swing quite a few thousand votes right now.

I get to see another side of him at burning man this year I hope. Ciao brother.

I've been impressed by Casey about his capacity to spend a lot of time to listen the peoples.. He seems relax and easy going and you can feel at the same time that his brain has a strong activity ! ;-) It was really a pleasure to spend time with him and talk about the concept of hospitality exchange and open world... He has really good ideas and is really open minded. He is the kind of guy I really like to spend time with... He is interesting and positive and he has this power inside that show you that "if you want you can do it" !

There is never a dull moment when you are around Casey. From camping, drinking too many tilts and fighting in the water in Maine to partying, dancing in the village and hearing Bobby's stories with blankets and pillows on a dock. Hiking, talks about life going backwards and drinking way too much energy drinks in general ... Dull moments ... NONE AT ALL!!! Thanks for everything you really are a great person :)

 

He had a dream last night... and I will follow:). Happy having met Casey, now being sure I trust and like this guy. Feeling already thankful for all he's done for the CS but now there is more than that. Hoping for more pretty soon! And yeah... the wolrd was smaller than i thought ... ;)

 

Casey is a beautiful person but you know about it right! He knows a lot of my friends and proved me once again that our world is such a small place and we got to make it as beautiful as it's met to be for everyone.

I got to pick his brain for almost a week on a road trip across the country. Eric, Nick, and I had the pleasure of spending that and a week on the Playa with this amazing guy. He has a magnetic personality and good things happen to him and those around him. If you get a chance to meet him, I wouldn't miss it.

Finally after two long years I was able to meet Casey at one of the greatest cities in the world.. Black Rock City.. Too bad there wasn't much time to talk.. but I'm pretty sure they'll be more times later..

 

We first met at the Montreal Gathering... and now I've just spent a few weeks working at the CSC, we've had the chance to hang out more.

I interviewed Casey for a travel story I did on the couchsurfing project. For all that he does, he still has it together. One of the oldest souls I've crossed paths with!

 

When I first decided to cross the ocean to go to Montreal for the Collective, I was absolutely excited about what we could have done all together...but everything has been absolutely over my expectations! And this guy has revealed himself to be not only a worthy "father" of the CS project, but also a fantastic fellow...We've been hanging around, talking each other, sharing feelings and sensations, laughing, crying, eating, dancing, sleeping...He's not just amazing...He's FUCKING amazing! This guy lives nearby CS and almost averything he does is connected with CS. (So if you wanna hear something about spirit of couchsurfing, talk to him :D ) And he don't have to shout to be heard. This is what I like.

 

Finally. Casey and I keep running into each other at all the gatherings and we always have an awesome time. I just recently hosted him, sadly for only one night. Wish he would have stayed longer. We have had crazy times in LA and Montreal and i am sure that there are tons more to follow. His commitment to CS is amazing. He really pours his heart and soul into this amazing site. THANKS CASEY YOU ARE DA MAN!!!

What impressed me most about Casey was that he made no effort at all to impress anyone. He...is...a...couchsurfer. I'm unable to point out more without spoiling that core point. Glad I met you, Casey.

 

2 weeks of extreme Couchsurfing! Wow, after 20 mins. of reading Casey`s comments, there is not much left to say about him that hasn`t been said already....but I`m gonna try anyway. If my heart was already set on this fabulous project, spending 2 weeks with Casey in Europe promoting CS made my faith in this project 20 times greater. A good leader injects this kind of drive and inspiration into people, and Casey delivers that. It was truly a highlight of my trip to have met him and I am proud to have him now as a good friend! Looking forward to next european crusade! Thanks, dude, you rock!

 

Well, Casey is the kind of guy who takes time for people and gives them the room to fully express themselves, moreover he is modest, warm, very friendly and generous, and he is a funny person to play sportive games with. He has a really big heart inside.

Casey moved in with me to get away from his chaotic life and work on CS. Great insightfull person to live with. Can't wait to see him again.

 

We met at the European CS Collective in Eisenstadt. Casey is a cool dude doing dude things, with some mad pool side skills, who knows both how to work and how to party.

Casey is totally involved in CS. as the founder he works his a** of to provide the world with the CS network and improve intercultural understanding. Keep up the good work Casey!

Dirt...drinks..and lauging at drunkards dancing to Ditzy Spears. I had the long delayed pleasure of meeting Casey In Monnai france at a camp full of travelers from around the world. We chatted over a drink or 5 in front of a raging fire..and or a seething mass of international drunkards. From what I can remeber we had a great conversation! I learned that we have some mutal aquantainces in common, share a smiliar philisophical persepctive, and enjoy some of the same recreational activites. Casey seems to be a quite extraodinary individual..intelligent, a bit silly..and very friendly.

Casey helps make great things happen. Before I met him, he was kind of like some mythological entity in my head that sent out e-mails every now and then pertaining to CouchSurfing.com, a website I love-love-love... After meeting him, he's not only materialized into a real person, but a funny, smiley, intelligent, dedicated, hip, ultra-sweet, hug-able person. I'm sure our paths will cross again, if not at the Mtl CSC (are you coming back before Burning Man?!), then at another CS event, or travelling, or something.....

crazy cool casey. My main man Casey did it all. Picked us up from the airport. Let us stay at his place for several days. Took us to cool spots to watch the sunset. Convinced us that Democrats are nicer than Republicans. What more can you ask for? You're always welcome on my couch!

surfer extraordinaire. Casey has stayed with me before and he is a most delightful houseguest. If you're looking to meet an interesting, open-minded person with many creative ideas and off the wall stories, Casey is the couch surfer for YOUR couch!

Yae. Casey's a great guy, easy going and fun-loving and a great person to have long intense conversations with... he's open to all sorts of nonsense good times stayed with us in Oakland... an uplifting guy to have around, hat's off. YoYo!

Happy stay in Anchorage! I stayed with Casey in Anchorage for a few days, and had a great time. He made me feel right at home from the start. He took me hiking up FlatTop Mountain, and I ended up meeting loads of his friends while I was in town. It was easy for me to make his home my own for the duration- the sign of a true host. If you have a chance to stay with Casey, or to host him, do it!

One of a kind....inspirational guy. I've known casey for a long time and whenever I see him he always gets me inspired about living. "So many people live their lives for something that will happen or might happen, who knows? Lost in a dream. Let's not do that Si." -casey.

this guy is COOL. I've couch-surfed with Casey for several days. Casey's not only a fabulous host but also a brilliant guy that puts words into actions and turns dreams into reality. Kudos to him for Couchsurfing.com! If you're ever in Anchorage, don't miss the chance to meet this guy. And if you couchsurf with him, be careful not to walk into the moose.

Wu-Wei. Casey and I had a lot of fun, he is one of these persons with a big and warm character that are nice to be around. I think his CouchSurfing project is wonderful thing to bring people together, as in our case, the last I remember of Casey is seeing him dancing to the taxi in the morning after a night on the town.

Partners in crime. Casey and I recently took a trip together that included everything from mountain biking, boat rides, village visting, swimming in an ice cold river, dripping sweat in a suana, getting lost, fording streams and gulleys, trying to climb a mountain in the snow and getting the cops called on us (not in that order). All said and done is was an invigorating trip and we perservered to arrive at our final destination which was well worth the effort. He was a very patient companion and I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. I wouldn't have made it without you, thanks!

Met for Chai. Although I did not have the honor of hosting Casey in my home, we did meet for coffee, with his Seattle host. We talked for three hours at the Chai house and I went home brimming with excitement and inspiration. With all the amazing experiences he has crammed in to such a young life, he is truly a life-lover and it is infectious! It is these times, I meet with people like Casey and I am reminded of the melancholy of travel, the people that you meet, the experiences you have are so fleeting and elusive. Well, if you come back through in February, let me know!

Casey is a great host! When you arrive he will have the couch hidden somewhere so that there is plenty of space on the floor. If, by chance, you return unannounced a few days later you will find a big blue comfy couch occupying the floorspace you slept on days earlier. The effort this guy puts in to clear that space for you is incredible! Hehe. This story is true and the important thing to know is that the founder of couchsurfing.com now DOES have a couch to surf. At least for now. If you can make it to Anchorage before he leaves make sure you ask him for the Chilkoot Charlie’s package. You will never be able to forget the meat market trainwreck that is Chilkoot Charlie’s. Highly entertaining. Seriously, Casey and Alaska are great. Get up and meet them if you can.

The perfect host. I stayed with Casey in Anchorage and we went to the Forest Fair in Girdwood. It was wonderful getting to know him even though i only got to stay a few days. The perfect introduction to Alaska and Casey--next time i'll get to learn more about both i hope. And i can't wait for him to come couchsurf in AZ, even if the mountains are TINY in comparison. Stay with this man if you get a chance!

 

My hat's off to ya! You've found your calling so early in life, I'm still looking for mine. But I'd rethink that Politics thing if I were you. It's such a dirty game and I'd hate to see you get soiled.
