About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"No hand's a winning hand, till you dare to lay it down" - (Tom Robbins) -
"You get what you concentrate on." - Seth

ABOUT ME

Made in Germany, exported to Australia, working in Asia. Engineer, writer, Chi Gong practitioner.
Lover of tea, good Cafes & good friends.

Living and working in Hong Kong Tsing Yi island since August 2012 wirh my better half Cathy https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/cathy-asianstar

Am I the kind of person you would like to meet ? Read on...I love talking over a cup of tea about life the Universe and personal stuff until we forget about the time and where we are.

My Facebook profile here.

I better be up front and say: I prefer Cafes to Bars, tea to any other drink and quiet music to boom boom. So if you are looking for company to noisier outings..... I wouldn't be good company.

I'm up for a Cafe and chat, anytime :-)

I enjoy teaching Silent Chi Gong., the Internal Chi Gong (not Tai Chi forms) and enjoy FEELing the life energy of the body using breath and concentration.

Chi Gong (Chi Kung) online skype classes via video, for details message me on skype mmepicwick and mention couchsurfing

I enjoy hearing people's life stories...

I haven't got it all figured out, I put some ideas on my blog.
When I get too serious about life I remind myself

of this bit about Music & life..

I met a Surgeon in Burma who operates on people while still conscious. He's a fascinating eccentric character. My friend and I got so excited we wrote our first book

about him :-) We hope others take up his work.

Leonard Cohen is my favourite artist: My cynical self loves this song Everybody knows the boat is leaking.....
My innocent self loves this one Hallelujah.....

I love geeky things like blogging, couchsurfing, etc.... I'm on a computer all the time.
I don't follow any sport. No, not even football. Nothing, 'nada'. Sorry. That's me.
I've always been this way. Now at the ripe old age of " 101+ " I like the way I am.

My bread and butter job is teaching Engineering at University, I'm into Medical Electronics - Self controlled pain relief called: Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA).
I'm also interested in computers & ergonomics, and the human body and electric currents.

Just 'engineering' ? - in my spare time i do Energy healing & Chi Gong,

write about my travels, some fiction and publish thoughts about life.

My own favourite story is: here. I'd love to hear your

reactions.

PHILOSOPHY

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born.....
( - Leonard Cohen )

I like this guy's philosophy...: Music & life -> finally 'making it'.

Omnia Mutantur, Nihil interit

There are no 'mistakes', only 'lessons' :-)

Do what your heart tells you.

A quote I like:
All people and creatures are born to a purpose - just flow with life, and you will achieve that which you were born to do. Have faith, for faith is 'the KEY in the doorway of tomorrow'.
- Chiron, John of Aesce - 'Wounded Healer, July 2009'.

Swordmanship’s first achievement
Is he unity of man and sword.
Once this unity is attained,
Even a blade of grass can be a weapon.

The second achievement is when
The sword exists in one’s heart
When absent from one’s hand,
One can strike an enemy at a 100 paces, even with bare hands.

Swordmanship’s ultimate achievement
Is the absence of the sword in both hand and heart.
The swordsman is at peace with the rest of the world
He vows not to kill,
and to bring peace to mankind
The king of Qin, in “Hero” by Zhang Yimou

Never say never....

Spiritual insights.

You have come the learn the lessons of light and dark
Be kind to yourself when you learn the lessons of darkness
Be gentle to those others when you are learning the lessons of light.
- Tengra Ngiam

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hold dinner, Ice Cream, Coffee, and movie events.

I make travel summaries:
- my public travel notebooks

Travel stories of interesting people

My discoveries about Saigon Cafe's, work, motorbikes, movies, jobs, charity work, dancing.... are listed here.

- The dogs bark, but the Caravan moves on....
Old Arab proverb.
I remember this proverb whenever I start barking.
It means "time to travel Haiko!"

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Holding events in Hong Kong, Cairo, Macau, Saigon,.... .

CS has made my trip to Taiwan very nice, I met some really lovely people who are into chi gong, tea and hot springs. They introduced me to other friends and suddenly I had a whole family in Taiwan to call friends. :-) Thank you Taiwan CS'ers. I feel very welcome and at home. (Dec2009)

I like CouchSurfing because I can get to know locals and expats in different places.
That gives me a chance move off the tourist track. and hear about life in the place at first hand.

I've stayed with people, before it was called 'Couchsurfing', when Lonely Planet's first & only travel guide was in its 2nd edition...

Interests

Writing, talking, philosophizing over a 'cuppa tea'

below: The blogs I write in:
Writing mystical stories. & drawing..
Healing with energy here.

Experimenting with 'Chi' energy in the body: I use and make these copper Chi-plates (also known as: 'BioCircuits'). . Great after a late night, or when burning the candle at both ends.

Music, Movies, and Books

---------- MOVIES: -------------

This one still gets me every time I see it. How come the tragic lives of other people is so beautiful when we don't have to live through it ourselves ? "Indochine" - set in Vietnam

The secret of their eyes - El secreto de sus ojos (original title). The surprise was real for me...

The Reader - love this movie. Beautiful actions, deep human sacrifice and cost.

Paju - South Korean movie: love can pay a heavy price...

What I like in movies:
- Deep emotions.
I'm bored with movies that rely on: High speed tire squealing car chases, fist fights, gun battles and all that usual stuff. It's always the same story in different clothes.

There are exceptions:
Blade Runner

Three colours: Blue

- Apocalypse NOW!
- Million Dollar Baby
- Akira Kurosawa movies

---------- MUSIC: -------------

Moonlight shadow by Mike Oldfield.

Leonard Cohen ! Hallelujah ! .

Kitaro's "Silk Road"

Dire Straights, Pink Floyd.

---------- BOOKS: -------------

Frank Herbert "Dune"
Master of sarcasm, cynicism and wit: Tom Robbins's "Villa Incognito"

George MacDonald's many books http://macdonaldsociety.org/

GK Chesterton

More recently : Neil Gaiman and the Sandman series. http://www.neilgaiman.com/works

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My first book is born!

I met Dr Naga in Burma in 2011. He used to walk around the hills of Burma operating on patients while they are conscious. He asks them to talk to him, sing and count.
Dr Naga is the ambulatory surgeon of the Nagaland hills of Myanmar (Burma). He's getting old. He has a found a very good way to help people in the villages.
I am publishing his story in the hope that others will take up his way of helping people. Please take a look at the site for Dr Naga Burma's walking surgeon here.

I don't want to push you buy the book, but I DO want to ask you please spread the word about Dr Naga's way of doing operations, cheap effective, where the people are. If you know anyone who is doing medicine in developing countries, in villages and tough conditions, please let them know, ask them to email me

what else have I done that is amazing ?

...being alive....

Life is stranger, more amazing than any story you can make up.

Teach, Learn, Share

These are the things I can share with you.

- how to do basic Internal Chi Gong and FEEL the energy of your own body using breath and concentration & then do healing with it. I call it Secret Chi Gong.

- Energy work to ease pain, using the same 'chi' energy the body is made from - its now become my weekend job

- If you are thinking of postgraduate studies: I'm happy to advise on applying for a PhD, Postgraduate study, Research, getting scholarships etc... (I'm an Academic in my 'other life')
info on how to do this here.
