Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
No couch currently available for surfing. You MUST give me as much forewarning as possible, as this house is a democracy (on Sundays) and I must request your visit before the council :)
I live with ~60 others in a student co-op, adjacent (one block) to the UC of B. We have two beautiful houses, multiple guest rooms, a treehouse, sauna, hottub, roofs with the most spectacular view imaginable, a meditation room, a music box, a piano, an organ, tons of common space, a big courtyard, and anything else you could possibly need.
It's a faux pas to sleep in common space, so it'd be best if you had a matress/pad to use to sleep on my floor in my room, or if a guest room is empty (likely) it's all yours. I can provide blankets/cushions/pillows and everything.
No pets, no smoking inside. I don't smoke.
Theres pretty much everything to do here. But when I first couchsurfed this house, I had little reason to leave, always someone around to provide stimulating conversation on just about any topic you could ask for. If you are (incredibly) able to get bored in the house, it is surrounded by university life, people in every direction, go walk around one of the most beautiful campuses on the landmass (i know cause I've visited scores of them) and meet people there, pick your favorite department and start a debate with some grad students or wander over the sather gate and watch the clubs put on free a capella/dance shows, look up what's playing at the multiple theatres on campus and know that there's always something to do here. That's why I moved here! Surrounded by a million ethnicities of restaurants, all about 5-6 blocks downhill of the house.
MAY be able to loan you a bike.
We are 14 linear blocks from BART, which is a $3.75 ride to San Francisco (~35 minutes) or ~1.50 to Oakland(~10 minutes). And 3 blocks from the 51 bus which will take you to oakland for $1.50 and last about 50 minutes.
I would LOVE to show you around. I'm taking math and science though, so I'm wanting to devote my full attention to my books though i usually utterly suck at doing so and will probably hang out with you as much as you want me to.
Weekends are great, Weekdays are busy for me but fine too :)
I usually go to bed ~00:30, give or take 2 hours.
I can host you for a few days, it's not my house and it has to be approved by everybody for you to stay any longer (we have 2 new transients a week, and none of them are thru couchsurfing) so don't come planning to stay any longer, but if you're good company and in a bind, then have no worries!

From Natalie Narotzky Annandale-on-Hudson, United States Nov 10 Positive I surfed with Isky for about a week in Berkeley in August of '09. We had an awesome time. We had some great adventures in SanFran and Berkeley. We painted cheese on the roof of his co-op, biked around sanfran, hit up a couch surfing event, and went to the EXPLORATORIUM. He was a great host. Isky's a friendly, cuddly and wonderful person. Wherever he is these days definitely consider surfing with him or putting him up. Not to mention he's probably the most enthusiastic couch surfing fan you will ever meet.
From Teagen W Martinez, United States Nov 7 Positive I only remembered his name because it rhymed with an alcoholic drink. :)
Isky is funny, personable, and a great masus. I cant wait to visit you when you get all set up in the city.
Much Love!
From Adam Smith Sacramento, United States Oct 22 Positive Isky was my first Couchsurfing experience and he made it one of the coolest things ever. I really really hope that I can host him again in the future. He is super fun to talk to.
From Dan Schindelman Schoen Davis, United States Oct 21 Positive I had an excellent time with Isky. We sang Fat Freddy's Drop on our bikes, went contra dancing, and had a killer jam session. Isky is full of life and is highly engaging. This was hard for some people in our community to deal with and unfortunately Isky left under less than great circumstances. However I believe these misunderstandings could have been worked out in a reasonable manner and I wouldn't have to be writing about it right now. Rock on Isky!
From Roxy Robles Davis, United States Oct 19 My experience with Isky still leaves me with mixed feelings. He didn't wash a dish and initially gave my roommates and friends a bad vibe.
My friends (especially the girls) at the Domes felt uncomfortable with him, especially when they all got a little tipsy. It is immediately apparent that he has a good heart and is looking for love like anyone else, but needs some help taking social cues sometimes.
From Yuki Takahashi Berkeley, United States Sep 27 Positive I was really happy to be roommates with Iskundar, and really sad that it was only for a month. He is one of the most open persons and really shares life and everything in it with others. I admire the passion with which he takes on everything that this world has to offer. I would love to go on adventures with Iskundar -- I'll learn so much.
From Vickie Ly Berkeley, United States Sep 10 Positive Isky is an awesome dude. Always down for an adventure and good company. He's thoughtful and always willing to lend a helping hand.
From Giraldo Ramírez Millán Bayamo, Cuba Sep 3 Positive VERY VERY GOOD, GREAT!!!

GRACIAS AMIGOS, GRACIAS
From Kate Peterson Oakland, United States Aug 26 Positive He's so friendly and so nice. I hope to get to know him better!
From Carly and Sharrah Mckenzie Portland, United States Aug 16 Positive Isky is a very interesting guy. We didnt get to surf his couch, but we did hang out for a night. It was very fun getting to see a Co Op, especially one as big as CZ. Talking with him was very fun. We plan to go back to california so we hope to see you around!
From Jese Schneider Fort Collins, United States Aug 11 Positive Isky is one of the brightest shining stars in universe. He will sing, he will dance, he will gladly show you around town. Do yourself a favor & meet this wonderful human being.<33
From Craig Neilson Auckland, New Zealand Jul 30 Positive Isky is such a sweet guy, who wants nothing more than for you to have an awesome time in Berkeley. He was ideal to stay with - knew the area and the tricks, happy to join me for adventures and totally supportive of my own. He really put in the effort to make me feel at home in his incredible place of residence. And right at the end.. we sung a song together that I won't be forgetting any time soon. Isky, you're a legend and a champion and don't let anybody ever take that from you :-)
From Thomas Vitale Berkeley, United States Jul 28 Positive Isky was my roommate for a month and a half at the Casa Zimbabwe co-op in Berkeley were I resided when I met him. Together we hosted many couchsurfers.
You can't go wrong if you're couchsurfing with Isky! If you are in the area to have a good time he is your man! He knows most of the sights and fun times and will not hesitate to show them to you and make your stay with him unforgettable!
Isky is playful and colorful who is willing to engage in conversations about most any topic while always remaining genuinely engaged and interested! He really does want to know and understand what you have to say! Sometimes he thinks quick so remember to be on your toes when he asks a question!
I loved having Isky as my roommate in the summer of 2009! He will make your stay comfortable and wonderful! You'll feel quite at home.
From Evin Wolverton Berkeley, United States Jul 19 Positive From CS forums to spin the bottle, Isky proves over and over to be more alive than anyone has a right to be.
From Kelly Abdul Gainesville, United States Jun 14 Positive =D miss u so much. thx for still caring about me after all these years. its def cool to have known u for so long. u inspire me at times - traveling here and there out of whim. the most unique fb updates ever. a quick mind, naturally smarter than ALOT of people, ever since u were little. i value ur friendship, hope to see u soon iski <3
From EMERLION Yuma, United States Jun 14 Positive It was a very last-minute kinda thing, and one of those events that I'm really glad happened, because Isky is the kind of person who comes into your life in a butterfly-effect sort of way that will reverberate forever and become a part of one's homespace, become a part of the very foundations, the very fortune and future, of my home.
From Karina Grifka Berkeley, United States Jun 12 Positive Iskundar not only is incredibly warm and caring, but also has impeccable taste in cinema. A rare and delightful combination, indeed!
From Rameen Navid Oakland, United States Jun 5 Positive Very nice to hang out with-- very personable and easily befriended! He has great stories, good energy, and seems to be around a lot. He also goes to my school!
From Jack Chi Berkeley, United States Jun 3 Positive Iskundar- what a name to begin with. I had trouble remembering it but he was always quick to recall facts about my life. Iskundar is a dedicated person pursuing his passion. very few individuals are like him. It's always a serendipitous time when we meet.
From Xander Lenc Berkeley, United States May 30 Positive It's not hard to understand why Iskundar loves to travel: He's more eager to learn about the world than nearly anyone I've ever met. And having been a traveler for so long, he has quite a bit to teach at this point as well. I can't wait to see where he'll be in five years.
From Robert Price Brisbane, Australia May 29 Positive Isky was a generous and helpful host. I found him to be authentic thoughtful animated and funny. Cheers brother.
From Mara Constantine Berkeley, United States May 22 Positive Friendly guy, look forward to getting to know him better
From Paige Sonmor Winnipeg, Canada May 22 Positive Isky is an awesome guy, with a huge spirit and a heart to match. To say he's outgoing would be a terrific understatement, and he provides witty conversation, great views, ample entertainment and tons of cuddles!
From Katie Cantrell and Robert Cheifetz Berkeley, United States May 8 Positive Behold here before you a good guy who's always looking for a fun and mind-expanding time. Before you know it, you'll be sucked into philosophical conversations with Iskundar that you'll never want to get out of. Watch out! ;)
From Camtastic San Francisco, United States Apr 23 Positive My man stopped by and schooled us on Polygraphs. Really smart guy...just don't watch LOST with him :)
From Alexander Kaplan Winter Park, United States Apr 11 Positive Isky is one of the most energetic and interesting individuals I have ever met, and you will surely have a great time with him if you avail yourself of the opportunity. A truly kind and caring person--and open to meeting all kinds of people. He recently put us up for a few nights at his co-op, which was a wonderful experience. I look forward to the next time we can have a visit! It's a shame we live on opposite coasts :-)
From David Ingerson Portland, United States Apr 4 Positive Zandar was an interesting and helpful guest while he was surfing our couch. He is a man of wide interests and knowledge who is quite willing to share his knowledge, time, energy and questions. I was very pleased to have had him as our first couch surfer.
From Justin Brown Calgary, Canada Mar 10 Positive (did your name change?). Can't believe I met this guy. I also can't believe it took me 9 months to write a damn reference.
We host a lot of CSers. He is the funniest I've met. Welcome at our place anytime.
From Darin Fenger Yuma, United States Feb 20 Positive Even though his stay with me was a mere layover, even just one good talk with this guy was a fantastic journey of stories and ideas. Zander is a real sweet guy and his gentle spirit was a blessing to my home.
From Bradley Williams Chicago, United States Dec 25, 2008 I hosted Zander after he posted in the Santa Fe group that he "desperately needed cool people to hangout with". I didn't plan on hosting him but he called me a few days before he was supposed to arrive in Santa Fe and told me he needed a place to stay. So he's the first person I've hosted who never sent me a CouchRequest. He definitely had some interesting stories and was very extroverted but he came off as offensive when I don't think he was trying to be. I didn't say anything at the time because he was only in town for a night and I just wanted to keep the night moving along. No drama. Yet in one night Zander insulted my friends and my roommate and spent two hours crying at a party that he coerced me into bringing him to. I like eccentric people and I definitely think Zander is a good guy deep down. He was going through a hard time when he got to Santa Fe so I don't feel anger but rather than sympathy as a result of the way he acted.
From Zoe Dove-Many Saint Louis, United States Dec 3, 2008 Positive Zander was a kind (and very tired) soul. Interesting to talk to, and a gracious guest.
From Elizabeth Latham San Diego, United States Nov 30, 2008 Positive My first couch surfer, really keeps you on your toes. Definitely would recommend.
From Emily Arent Boulder, United States Nov 28, 2008 Perhaps it was a conflict of interest, but Zander left my roommate and I very
unsettled. He was extremely upset and cried on our couch for the majority of the time we spent with him. He assumed we would allow him to stay alone in our apartment all day while we were in class after a night spent crying in our apartment. Zander is looking for open-minded people, but was very condescending when his stories of
alternative sexual escapes were met with anything less than enthusiasm. I would reccommend Zander to EXTREMELY open-minded, alternative individuals. He was asked to leave early.
From Ben Brumbaugh Boulder, United States Nov 27, 2008 Positive He is very intelligent and adventurous person who works to grow and learn by meeting others
From Sara Rachlin Boulder, United States Nov 26, 2008 Positive Zander opened his heart and his mind while staying at my place. He offered healing and fun. I look forward to following his path to California.
From Aubrey Sacco Boulder, United States Nov 23, 2008 Positive Zander is a sweet boy with kind words to share. He was a flexible coughsurfer and I wish we could have spent more time together. I would def welcome this fine brother into your home and beyond!
From Lauryn Rumbaugh Phoenix, United States Nov 10, 2008 Positive A highly curious, foxy, intellectual gentlemen. Well versed in giving amazing massages! Very charming company. I wish him only good on his journey.
From Triana Reyes Los Angeles, United States Nov 4, 2008 Positive Zander is a highly energetic guy who is highly curious about life. He's a great guy to have around for conversation and spicing things up. You won't get bored with him around.
From Zoe Liang Ventura, United States Oct 31, 2008 Positive bike rides. snuggles. paris je tem. bad can opener.
From Alex Kesner Seattle, United States Oct 5, 2008 Positive Zander stayed with me a couple of weeks while he was in Seattle. He made us a food, played with my dog, got drunk with me. He was an overall good time. Good luck on your travels throu America and super good luck on finding the right college!
From Jennifer Willow Vancouver, Canada Sep 26, 2008 I refused Zander's original couch request b/c we did not have the room/time. I mentioned that if really stuck then to call as we may be able to help for a night or two. He called me the day he arrived and that they still had no host. I explained that our apartment was a war zone w/ BM preparations and we were also expecting another emergency surfer that night. In the end, as it was an emergency I agreed to allow them to surf at our place. When they arrived I clearly told them they could stay for 2 nights. I reminded them their last night to remember to leave the key when they left the next morning. I text them to come pick-up their stuff when I found it still in our apartment after returning from work. And yet Zander was surprised that we were expecting them to leave that day.
I would like to assume that had we more time to interact I would have seen more positive traits, but as it was he left me w/ the impression of the arrogance of youth & that he somehow felt the world owed him.
From Ilantha Ingerson Portland, United States Sep 25, 2008 Positive Zander is wonderful. He is relaxed and very easy to accommodate, fitting right in to any situation. He has an inquiring mind and really enjoys meeting people and exploring his environment. Totally friendly, entertaining, and a cuddle-bear, Zander was a joy to host. We played geography games and laughed a lot. My whole family (I live with my parents and brother) loved having him here and can't wait to host him again!
From AIRYN Surrey, Canada Sep 25, 2008 Initially negative, but updated to neutral after some consideration as Zander is not generally a bad person - maybe just a little arrogant.
Zander's initial couch request to me felt a little too pretentious so I declined. My roommate, Jenn, accepted his request a few weeks later as it had become an emergency and he had no host. It seemed he and his gf spent all day on the couch, fighting with each other - I don't think they saw the sights at all! At 1 point I hear he was in my bedroom for TWO HOURS without my permission while I was at work (apparently the wifi signal was better in there).
He assumed he could stay longer than advised (2 nights) and acted surprised when Jenn told him to leave. We never even got a thank you for hosting him at the last minute.
From my perspective, it seems like Zander's view of CS is that people should provide for him. Sure, he's the life of the party, but when it comes to appreciating what CS is about I just don't think he gets it.
From Maciej Walinski Vancouver, Canada Sep 15, 2008 Positive Great guy actually, always looking for adventure and always up for a good time. He's also got lot's of interesting things to say, I'm just sorry I couldn't have hosted him and his friend Brit for a longer period of time. No joke though mate, if ever you're in a bind and need a place to crash let me know, I'll see what I can work out! Definitely recommended.
From Halley Proctor Tallahassee, United States Sep 1, 2008 Positive one of my top people i met in orlando. he has such a big heart and makes you feel loved the moment you see him.
From Klaire Rueckert Seattle, United States Aug 22, 2008 I was immediately drawn to Zander and his hat. We chatted for just a bit, but I'm looking forward to seeing more of him at Burning Man soon!
From Likeke Goings Seattle, United States Aug 22, 2008 Positive Wonderful Guy. A lot of fun to hang out with.
From Peter Koughan Nanoose Bay, Canada Aug 16, 2008 Positive Zander and his friend, Brittany stayed with me for a couple nights and I enjoyed company. They both strike me as pleasant and intelligent.
p.s. Zander, thanks for helping me with the computer.
From UWEandJULIE Victoria, Canada Aug 15, 2008 Positive Thanks Brittany and Zander for being such pleasant guests. I hope you guys find what you're looking for on your cross-continental conqeust. Take care!
From Vegan Terra*ist Victoria, Canada Aug 7, 2008 Positive Zander is a freaking legend! One of the most gentle, free-spirited people I have ever met in my travels. He was an absolute riot to hang out with and talk with... Just don't talk about Florida :)
From Robert Shaw Vancouver, Canada Aug 6, 2008 Positive Zander Great guy funny & enjoying the couching Adventure
From Kevin Reid Canmore, Canada Aug 5, 2008 Positive Zander and Brit where the bouncy enthousiastic duo From the Great state of Flarda. It was nice to see their joy and enthousiasm as they settled into a few days of camping in BC. Between the two of them their is more personality than you'll know what to do with. Enjoy the rest of your journey, eh.
From Ryan Fortier Ko Phangan, Thailand Aug 4, 2008 Positive Zander opened my eyes to the reality's of the south as he knew them. It was great to hear his perspective on what he had seen so far. One day we'll have to have another talk once i've traveled enough to bring a bit more to the table.
From Chad Schneider Revelstoke, Canada Aug 2, 2008 Positive Great guy, would love to travel with him and brit, see all that they are seeing, Have a great journey my friend! Keep in touch, i'll follow your travels on here :)
From Julie Armstrong Ottawa, Canada Jul 28, 2008 Positive Zander is an awesome person, super nice and soft spoken. He got along with everyone, my friends who met him also thought he was great.... he definately got me addicted to the electronic sheep. Hopefully I will run into him and Brittany in the near future
From Kelsey Lavoie Victoria, Canada Jul 22, 2008 Positive Very warm and friendly people with just the right amount of sarcastic humor. They are very fun people to hang out with and excellent cooks. It is a joy having them stay with me
From Natural Born Camper Bergeron de Carufel Montreal, Canada Jul 22, 2008 Positive I don't even know why Zander left me a positive reference; It took me something close to 3 requests before I accepted him hehe! And in the end, when he arrived at our place, there were already couchsurfers here, depsite the fact that I told him we were not hosting, so I looked like a fool haha!
Anyway, do host Zander and have him name all the states for you, I heard he can do it
From Alejandro Johnson Ulsan, South Korea Jul 20, 2008 Positive Zander is an awesome guy. We enjoyed drinks in Minneapolis, and he gave me a ride to Fargo! He is genuinely generous, and a great traveller. I hope to see him again when our paths cross.
From Yannick Daoudi Sherbrooke, Canada Jul 19, 2008 Positive Zander was so much fun to hang out with, such a great personnality! Just note that me seem to be completely out of it if he didn't get his 16 hours of sleep (yet will manage to give his well researched opinion on just about any topic that may come up). :) Dude, I would chill again with you anytime.
From Rhe aka Jo Keefe-Powers New Orleans, United States Jul 17, 2008 Positive A sweet heart with a somewhat sheltered, but rapidly expanding, world view. Adventurous and fun. Endearingly cocky. Good for a hug and a late night chat.
From Anne Drehfal Madison, United States Jul 15, 2008 Positive Zander has a great energy about him and lots of curiosity towards life. Hosting him and Brittany was a lot of fun... Glad I was able to fulfill all your hopes and dreams regarding fried cheese curds and Wisconsin ice cream... Feel free to stop by Madison anytime!
From FairyPrincessofLove Milwaukee, United States Jul 14, 2008 Positive I enjoyed hosting the pair on their roadtrip. Zander was a good house guest and is very interesting to talk with. They reminded me of my wonderful roadtrip with an amazing person. I would recommend hosting them if they come your way.!
From Crystal Leturno Chicago, United States Jul 12, 2008 Positive Zander was a motivated positive energy to have around. we was very open and friendly and took a liking to my fooseball table. good luck on your huge roadtrip!
From Nair Altamonte Springs, United States Jul 7, 2008 Positive I first met Zander at a potluck (Progressive Council)and a few months later we had class together. Zander is an unforgettable person and like no one I know. A free spirit. He is open to any type of conversation, whether it be about languages, cultures or simply, a fly on the wall. He is energetic, genuinely unconventional, intelligent and will make you laugh! I will be forever thankful to him for introducing me to Couchsurfing. Thank you Zander! :)
From Stas Zlobinski Toronto, Canada Jul 7, 2008 Positive Zander is a soft and intelligent guy, and very insightful for his young age. He was really excited by my french toast (not sure how much of that was out of politeness :), and we had some interesting chats.
From RUBBERDUK Helsinki, Finland Jul 1, 2008 Positive Zander is a smart, hyperactive and highly emotional human being traveling at light-speed through space and time, the trip might constantly be interrupted by anything moving, stationary, shiny or otherwise interesting object :)
Not completely unlike the ferret in this comic: http://www.sluggy.com/daily.php?date=980412
From Jaya Karsmeyer Barnesville, United States Jun 30, 2008 Positive Zander is a true ambassador--affable and flexible, spontaneous and agreeable. He, his girlfriend, and their Finnish stowaway brought adolescence back to our house. In a more manageable way than when me and my brother were his age.
From Guillaume Desbiens Quebec, Canada Jun 27, 2008 Positive Very funny buddy. I would never hesitate to offer a couch to him. I hope we will catch up again one day!
From Manu Boudreault Montreal, Canada Jun 25, 2008 Positive Zander is a really cool guy. He stayed at my house for a short while with his friends and really enjoyed Quebec beer. Cool couchsurfer to host!
From Guillaume Delalandre Rouen, France Jun 24, 2008 Positive He`s a very nice person but I think I don`t know him well enough to give an Extremely Positive appreciation :)
From J Kruczynski Brooklyn, United States Jun 20, 2008 Positive I had a great time talking to Zander.
You would never guess that this guy didn't talk to anyone for a few years...
I really am jealous of his adventures and hope to travel with him one day.
From Marie-France L Sergerie Montreal, Canada Jun 19, 2008 Positive I love this guy! I had the pleasure of having him around for a few days, when he couchsurfed my place during his "Big American Tour trip". He is fun, positive, dynamic. Plus, he was very interested in my city and its people: very openminded. Also, he like hugs, so don't be shy to share some love! ;)
From Blaire Ward Washington, United States Jun 16, 2008 Positive I've known Iskundar for years and just visited with him for a week this past spring. He's one of the most adventurous, friendly, and sincere people I've ever known. He's both a wonderful person and great partner-in-crime. Iskundar's a 'never met a stranger' type who really appreciates the whole couchsurfing experience. He's absolutely worth visiting with if you find yourself in Berkley!

From Gerardo Ricardo Montevideo, Uruguay Mar 19, 2008 Positive I met Zander in Holguín and we were together wiht some other good friends from CS. We walk showing them the city much around, the way of thinking of the Cubans. We try to go to the beach but... it was a little difficult, we decide better to go to the Cruz's Hill. I think that their legs should still hurt. I loved to share our time together, I learned much of them and I hope to have helped them to understand Cuba. A true couchsurfer, with adventure spirit, indefatigable, curious, observer, talkative, reliable; I hope very soon we see again. A strong hug from a new friend in Cuba y besos de la abuelita Dalia de la Loma de la Cruz. Un placer conocerte.
