About Me

CURRENT MISSION

meet good people, have fun and learn

ABOUT ME

i love what i do, which makes working not so much work. i probably share the travel bug with just about everyone who will see this profile. i'm a dual citizen- the u.s. and republic of ireland and look forward to exploiting that e.u. membership at some point in my life, but for the time being san francisco is not such a bad place to be. plenty of hiking, backpacking, trailrunning, skiing, climbing and backcountry skiing to do pretty close by. and the city isn't too shabby either. great food, great bars, great wine, amazing people.

PHILOSOPHY

a personal philosophy... that's tough. i love what i do which makes doing it pretty easy. i wish i had more time to travel. i like to stay active and healthy and believe that a healthy body translates to a healthy mind.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i started by couchsurfing with friends traveling through switzerland and austria in 2009 i think. i've been hosting in san francsico since. it's been great gettign to meet so many people and sharing this wonderful city with them. but i am now hitting the road for the next 15 months or so. very much looking forward to experiencing the couchsurfing from the other side.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

stayed with some cs members at an amazing place in basel, switzerland a few weeks back with our amazing hostess manuela. figured i could get involved. i've been hosing since and have had over 30 surfers stay with me.

Interests

travel, running, skiing, architecture, sketching, photography, food, bars, wine, museums, laughing, etc. football (soccer), football (football), and lots of other kinds of sports. anything local even better.

Music, Movies, and Books

lately listening to a lot of jose gonzalez, bon iver, alexi murdoch, tom waits, pixies, clash... always changing depending on the season.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

was fed hot tea by monks while sketching a buddist goddess in a remote monastery high up in the himalyas. stayed with a family in an old ghasso zukuri japanese farmhouse. nobody spoke any english. somehow communicated enough to be offered a ride 6 hours back to tokyo, including a stop at some hidden hot springs. met a local with a boat and went fishing for pirhana on the amazon in iquitos, peru.

Teach, Learn, Share

when i travel i always wonder if i am going to places that locals frequent. i want to have a very real experience, i hope i can offer this to visitors to sf.
