I stayed with for Rory for 1 night, he lives in a nice area, has nice apartment and lives next to a great art house cinema and is well versed in the couchsurfing scene.

I must say as a first time couchsurfer, my experience has been absolutely wonderful!! Rory is a great guy, very genuine! I couldn't ask for a better host. I am so grateful that Rory responded, as everyone else I had asked were too busy or away. I originally was going to stay for 1 night, but after talking to Rory and really getting to know him he let me stay another night, even though he was hosting a lot of other people already.

I wish I could of spent more time to get to know you more Rory, but I enjoyed the talk we had that Saturday morning.

Rory is a very nice guy! The other people he hosts are also very interesting. Dublin was amazing, and I had the time of my life - exactly what I was hoping for!

Rory was a wonderful host. He is extremely kind and has a huge heart. He is very knowlodgeable and is an awesome source for history lessons with anything to do with Ireland. He was a great conversationalist and I personally had a really good time in Dublin.On my Last day I slept right past my alarm and was going to miss my flight. Not only did he wake me in the morning he also dropped me at the airport. I felt at home at his house.

Rory was an extremly welcoming host who helped me and Stefan a lot! "My house is your house". He knows a lot about Ireland and has a broad knowledge about the rest as well. With the help of Rory I could broaden my knowledge about Ireland and irish history and discover Dublin. Besides that, he's simply a warm and welcoming person with typical irish humour. Everybody staying with him can be happpy!

I think I have to thank Rory for a lot of things: Just one night before we went to Ireland, our host told us that he couldn't accommodate us. In this emergency Rory did us a big favour and hosted us for all the three days we were to stay in Dublin. Furthermore he was an excellent guide and a good conversational partner with many interests and a broad knowledge. Above all, he is the very Irishness in person and his humour should be adapted for the stage! Thank you, Rory!

Rory, thank you so much for being me and Emily's first CS experience, it was fantastic and couldn't have been better. It seems like so long ago (7 months!) that we ate Felice and Danilo's pasta in your living room, laughing and teasing. I'm still working on learning that song on the fiddle that you gave me, it's a tough one. But I'll never forget that night at the pub, the tour of Dublin and the market the next day and our whole time there, it was amazing. I'll also never forget your generosity and friendliness, thank you so much.

Rory is exactly what i could call BIG FRIEND who have a real big heart! So kind, lovely, useful and worry about let his guests felling like in their home that the days there during my second week in Ireland was very pleasure and welcome. I just sorry about all my long chattings with him... the most interactive portuguese-english dialogue that i already had in my whole life!!!

Rory is a great guy! has a great sense of humor and is a really generous guy. he showed us some interesting places where to go in Dublin. The next day, he even brought us to one of those places and drove off to some streets, where we could take some nice pictures (Guinness Brewery)!
The final day we went for breakfast at a coffee shop, where they serve a traditional Irish breakfast. That completed my short trip to Ireland! Bacon, pudding, eggs, toast and a large cup of tea. I had a great time!
Rory even brought us back to the airport. It was if I was saying goodbye to an old friend. Thanx for your friendship Rory!

My friend and I stayed at Rory's place for 2 nights and as our first couchsurfing experience it was awesome. We felt more than welcome and Rory had breakfast and beer for us, a nice couch to sleep on, towels for showering and clean sheets. We had cool things to talk about and it felt like visiting a good friend. His hospitality exceeded our expectations and we even went to a place for breakfast and he took us to the airport! Rory thanks again for feeling us at home ;)

 

I was happy to be Rory's surfer and I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere together with other couchsurfers at his appartment. Rory has a big heart with a very helpful spirit and he made my stay as comfortable as possible. I was also glad to hang out together with his old flatmate Fred, who is also the cousin of my french speaking tandem partner Katy here in Vienna :)

Rory hosted my friend and me for a rocking three days, and made our stay excellent! He is quite the personality, tons of fun, and knows everything you'd like to know about his city. While we were there he hosted two brazilians a half french half english guy and a fully french guy - it was like a CS camp in his livingroom, and he in the center of it, teasing everyone and making them laugh. Thanks man!!!

I only spent 1 day at Rory's but he made my stay very intense. I am happy to have met such a CS institution after hearing so much about him.

Rory hosted me and a friend for one night. It was to short, cause we didn't have time to talk (but we did a little!). Rory has a great heart and he is exactly the kind of person I expect to meet through couch surfing project. As the Irish people, he's extremely kindness and he'll tell you the best things to do in Dublin, thank you Rory !

 

After long time just having "technical CS contact" through email & group I finally discover Rory irl :) 200% CS spirit, extremely easygoing and sharing over itself. Too many CSers are now just "coffee & drink" and Partying in CS and we need more members like him who understand that the point is to give a couch to the traveller then share a short piece of life together. I found rory incredibly Rude and Uninviting. He came up to me at a CS meet-up in Dublin and preached at me rudely about having a backup plan and informed me that it would be unacceptable to mention that I was in need of a couch at a 'COUCH' surfing meeting. I am not accustomed to having a stranger come up to me and inform me how to conduct myself. His preaching to me was in interruption of a more pleasant conversation with other couch surfers and it insulted me to the point of leaving the meeting all together.

I am surprised to find that mine is the first negative comment on this profile. His contribution to CS is extensive, and I appreciate all that he has done here as ambassador and as host, (he was understandably unable to host me because of having 9 other surfers that night) but I feel that perhaps this has gone a bit to his head and that he may ought to step back for a time and refresh his perspective on exactly what CS is about.

The personification of generosity. Great guy with a great heart. Still in awe of this guys dedication to couch's and letting people surf them. Great place to stay, even greater person to know.

This man really took the meaning of "hospitality" to a higher level. I was hosted by him while other people were staying at the same moment, just because I wrote an emergency last minute request on the Dublin group and he was so kind to reply me on my mobile. He also found a parking for my motorbike, he helped with my luggages (and he still is keeping some of my stuff I have problem in carrying) and has been more helpful than any other person can be. Thank you man!! If you are lost in Dublin, he's the man to help you!

 

Rory is an awesome host and an extremely generous man. He instantly made me feel at home in his apartment, and we spent quite a bit of time together. He has a great sense of humor and his interests and experiences make for really interesting conversation. This guy has hosted so many Couchsurfers, and still he takes the time to get to know each one of them, which I think is amazing.

Rory was nice enough to take me in to his home for a night last minute even though he already had 6 other surfers and was over his head with things to do. I didn't talk to him much that night due to obvious reasons, but did get to talk to him a few days later at a CS party. Rory is a very considerate man with everybody's best interest at heart. My first time CSing and it blew me away. it was almost awkward how Rory immediately irradiated any awkwardness. Rory welcomed me with suck kind warm open arms, I can only hope the rest of my CS experiences will be half as homely. Rory is such a great genuine guy with a large dedication to CS, he took me in when I was disorganised and unfamiliar and made me part of his home.

I stayed at Rory's place with Jeff. There were few more ppl sleeping at his flat as well. We had a great time cooking together!Rory made me feel like home, he has cool sense of humor and is willing to help more than u expect. no one personifies the hospitality of couchsurfing more than Rory. He is a fantastic host going above and beyond in making sure you have the best visit you can have. I would highly recommend that while in Dublin you try to make a visit to Rory.

I have only met Rory on a few occasions and yet I can say with clear certainty that he is very passionate and fully invested in CS. Everyone I know that has stayed with him has endless compliments about him, he is a real mover and shaker in CS Dublin!

rory gave juergen and me the most cordial welcome one can imagine and kept his lovely manner inspite of all our austrian defects;) i've really hardly ever met a man with such a big heart and a gift to making it unobvious by means of a good sense for dry humor. i think one can learn a lot from rory, how to approach and treat people the right way and i think couch surfing is just the right environment for him to share his benefits. i'm really glad to know this man, although i believe i should have made more effort to get to know him better..but this might still be to come..thanks for everything!

When I went back to the house where I live I had a strange feeling. I felt I just a guest in my room. My home is his couch even if I just stayed one night on his couch after a CS party and talked with him a few hours. This was my first surfing and I am very glad for it.

I surfed at Rory's place for 5 nights when I was in Dublin. He is a very kind and caring person. When it came to helping out, nothing was ever too hard or too much of a task for Rory. He made me feel very welcome. It was great to meet people from all over the world thanks to Rory's generous heart. If it wasn't for him hosting a few people a night I would never of got the chance to meet fellow worldwide CSers. If your looking to travel Dublin I highly recommend contacting Rory.

I stayed at Rory's for nearly a week during my stay in Dublin. He is a very warm person and instantly made me feel like his place was my home away from home. He was very caring and would help me out in any way whenever I needed it. By the end of my stay I felt as though we had been friends a lot longer than we had. If I am to return to Dublin in the future I will definitely stay at Rory's.

Rory is the bomb diggidy! I surfed his couch with some other fellow CSers and we all had a great time, thanks to Rory! To me it seems like Rory has a somehow complex personality and I'm still trying to figure that out, but so far I can say that I like it ;)

Rory was very warm and made me feel at home. DUBLINGUY was willing to host us, but it turned out more practical for all involved to surf elsewhere on this occasion due to circumstances beyond anybody's control.

When I first sent a message to Rory I wasn't that sure I'd get a place to stay with him because he's a popular guy in Dublin. To my surprise he still managed to find a place at the last minute at his place. His generosity and hospitality as a host are very abundant. It was hard to get to know him especially well but that's mostly my fault: I only stayed one night and had to leave early at 5am! Nevertheless, you should stay with Rory or at least try to get in touch with him, since he's got the heart and desire to help as many people as he can. Oh yeah, and his flat is right next to the Jameson factory! Enough said, right?

All the time spent talking together was fruitful for me as Rory knows a lot on basically everything (even on the history of Montpellier during world war II). In addition to cultural and life knowledge enrichment, Rory will make you laugh as the dry humour expert he is (just behind me lol).

Rory is true, understanding, devoted, warm, open minded and generous... Just a wonderful person as I only met a few in my life.

You should definitely seize the chance that you have to host him or to be host by him.

If numbers aren't enough to convince you, Rory is a great host and a great guy. He greated me with a much-needed hug after a trying few days in Cairo and then took me in, introduced me to other great CSers, gave us all kinds of help, kept us laughing, etc. He was helpful when we spoke on Skype as well and has helped me, personally, get a sense of what to expect from my time here. Undoubtedly one of the best CSers in the system.

Everything that others have said about Rory is true. He is a very nice guy, easy to talk to, and really cares about CS and his guests. His genuine personality shines the instant you meet him. Words cannot describe the depth of Rory.
Without repeating what all other references have accurately described of Rory I will just say that Rory helped create my experience in Dublin and Ireland. My experience of the last 5 weeks has been incredible. My whole CS perspective has been enlarged and now I take part more than I ever have. My first trip to Europe was great, He picked me up at 5:45am from hotel and brought me to his place. He lives in nice area verrrry close to guiness factory. His roomate from Paris and his friend was very comforting. I was lil homesick my first night and they made me laugh alot.

he told me go to Howthe which is amazing where i met 2 other american and went with one to explore belfast.

Overall if it is your first CS experience Rory is the man to see. He puts you at ease quickly and his flat has other surfers coming so you rarely be alone.

Wow! Rory truly embodies what couchsurfing is all about. NEVER have I met anyone who has made me feel more comfortable and more at home. Through CS Search i got to this amazing guy.... big guy big heart... i think that would be the easiest short way to descrbie this lovely person... after surfing his couch in Dublin I had the amazing experience to get to know i lil bit of this guy, thats probably one of the most popular people in whole CS, and we who know him know why... :)

Rory defies description, categorization or definition. If any one person embodies the absolute best that couchsurfing is about, it is he.
If you should be so lucky as to surf one of his many couches, prepare to be ensconced in a generosity not of this earth and in warmth that could melt the polar ice-caps, with good dosage of Ireland’s (in)famous humor to boot.
This angelic man will drive halfway across town in the middle of the night on the off-chance of resurrecting your malfunctioning laptop.
He has an impeccable taste in people (with an occasional lapse in judgment represented by yours truly); you are likely to meet amazing people from the four corners of the globe at his apartment.
Many people assume that bringing sunshades to Ireland is a waste of time and effort, and they are not wrong. However, while you are more likely to see a leprechaun than a full blue-skies day on the Emerald Isle, Rory’s apartment is always full of sunshine.

I really appreciate Rory helping me out by allowing me to stay on his couch when I was traveling back to the US. He is an extremely friendly guy and his house was full of other CSers! Rory was my first CS experience. At first he said he could not host me. Then I started IMing him. I found him interesting, and still wanted to be friends. Well, it turned out that he decided to host me for 1 of my two days in Dublin. Then, the 2nd day he couldn't, he did anyway. He indeed had many surfers. Yet still made room for me.

My first day in Dublin we had a large barbecue and pub party, that Rory organized. He also drove us out to both, and prepared food for barbecue.

He is extremely knowledgeable about the history of Dublin and Ireland, and gave us extensive lessons of many places around town. It was very interesting.

Rory also likes to joke alot, but has a big heart. I felt very welcome in his home, and am excited to return soon. My only regret, is that I did not have more time to talk with new brother. Perhaps on my return.

Rory can tell you alot about a lot of things. Of course he's got lots to say about Dublin for places to see and go but he you can also have a chat with him about Ireland in general for a long time. Indeed very accomodating and without a doubt, very thoughful about CS. I surfed with Rory on 4/28 after arriving in Ireland and had a wonderful time. Not only was Rory extremely accomodating with suggestions and showing me around, but the other couch surfers staying with Rory were also awesome. Just a great experience at Rory's!

I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet. Rory is the poster child of everything couchsurfing represents. I was shooting a Documentary about CS, and I contacted Rory. He went out of his way to organise Elegance Bar as a venue for us to shoot. Rory was truly an amazing host - and more: an exceptional human being. In the two years that he has hosted so many CSers, he would have had to be flexible and open to all walks of life.
Rory also has an amazing capacity to captivate a crowd with his stories and jokes - a truly unique abilty. Although he is one of the most generous people I have met, he endevours to improve himself in many ways, and I feel CS is a means to do so for him.
His hospitality was overwhelming from the word 'go': I woke him at 4am when I arrived the first time, he allowed me to cook and clean in his kitchen as if it were my own, he drove me first to my first hitching spot outside of Dublin and to the airport at 5am on my second stay.
Rory is worth staying with just to see the capablities of the human heart. My prayers are with you, my friend.

Rory helped us from the very beginning to the very end of our stay in Dublin.
In the beginning he answered to our lastminute request on a very short notice. In the end he offered a crutch to my girlfriend who had had an ankle sprain. This was very helpful, especially for our flight a few hours later.

Rory was absolutely great. I couldn't have asked for a better first CS experience. Rory treated us like family and made us feel extremely welcome in 'our' flat. Rory hosted my first couchsurfing experience and it was nothing short of incredible. I didn't expect to see 8 other Couch surfers in his house on arrival, disbelief really, but somehow he was able to accomodate us all with the upmost hospitality. My roommate Robert and me thought about a trip to Dublin and just right after we had booked our flights, we found out, that there is St. Patricksday at the time of our expected visit. So our hopes about a free couch were gone far before our trip. But what a surprise, the Dublinguy answered our reqeuest and made our jouney possible. In the end it was not just a couch he offered us, it was a lot of hospitality, friendliness, many pitchers of beer, a T-shirt and a mass of good impressions we got from Rory! I had the opportunity to meet up with Rory and to also have dinner with him and some other couch surfers in Dublin. Rory is a great guy who definitely believes in the Couch Surfing project. My buddy Tommy and Myself truly enjoyed our time with Rory at the Cobblestone Pub, his house over dinner, and having conversations about life in Ireland. It just happens that if friends drag you around from place to place, we two always meet up somewhere. Have known this real Dublin guy for years, before I actually knew what CouchSurfing was about, just wondered every time, who were all those good damn nice people of those big events!? That´s how it stayed till today, always when I get back to Dublin. There is a connection, no one needs to explain, it´s just there.

In the past two years I have met Rory at various Couchsurfing events but unfortunately we have just talked for a short period of time. My twin brother and some friends speak the world of him. I have met people travelling in various countries who have mentioned how much of a good soul he is. Sometimes when I am hitchhiking and I start telling a stranger about Couchsurfing, I use Rory as an example of a human being who is living proof of generosity. Not only does he represent a nice side to Irish culture, he appears to be a true internationalist.

I've discovered the irish dry ironic humour (and I like it! :)), an interesting way of seeing the Ireland's history and the existence of a new brother that I didn't suspect!

It was my first CS experience staying in Dublin during a weekend trip with my friend Benni.
Surfing Rorys couch was the best thing that happened in that time. Rory make you feel what CSìng is all about: Getting in touch with new people, trust people and love people. He is such a great guy and we had a very good time staying at him, having good and funny chats with him and his other guests.

It was the best that could happened to us in Ireland. Think it was the luck o´the irish to meet him. Staying at his apartment was like to stay at your family. He is sooooooooo open minded and he´s makin jokes. He also can laugh about himself. He really helped us with his expierience of dublin and gave many tips for beeing a good couchsurfer.

He gave us directly the love of a good friend and I always loved to be back at home. If we needed help we could ask him everytime. I don´t know what to say, because it was so amazing. Never met a guy like him.

His words "it´s nice to be nice" brandmarked me, because that´s what this is all about.

There should be more people like the Dublin Guy. Hope he will visit Bochum soon.

Although we only met for a couple of beers, I can say that Rory is the living proof that the generation gap can be easily be overcome. He's big guy with a great, positive and friendly personality, meeting him is a very pleasurable experience.

Rory was a tremendous help to my friend and I on our trip to Ireland. Rory aided in a great dinner conversation among his guests. Rory never makes you feel awkard and is interested in your culture and background. Very funny guy and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit with him. One of the more memorable events on our trip.

Rory gave us a great time in Dublin. He is everthing a CS-host should be; welcoming, warm, openminded, fun and honest. I recommend all CS'ers in or visiting Dublin, to get to know this guy!

 

I spent 2 great days in Dublin! 2 days were really too short to visit this city but Rori's advices were very helpfull, he made everything he could to make things easy! I think that I'll come back in few years to see Dublin and Rori again!

We were very lucky to meet this great star of Dublin (you really cannot miss him out when you’re in Dublin!) and had a really nice time together, even thought our time was short. Could not imagine that how come he has such a helpful heart and energy to host right after his trip in Madrid…and made a great irish breakfast in the morning even he was tired!!

Couching in Rory's in Dublin was only my second experience as a guest and yet I can tell how lucky I was! My prior couchsurfing experience had been brillant but this one was even better. Rory is one of those rare men who gives you hope, who makes you want to continue couchsurfing so badly. He is big-hearted and spreads good spirit all over the place. If you ever get the chance to couchsurf Rory's, please take this precaution: don't be too kind with this guy otherwise he will give you it back twice over! He added a remarkable human dimension to my trip. Outstanding! Take care my friend.

Have you seen the movie Hostel?...

Put it this way: I felt deja vu on more than one occasion. My last two days in Dublin were shared with more than a handful of CSers from all over the world who were also being hosted by Rory. His house was like a free International Youth Hostel with an open door policy.

Don't even try and take advantage of this though, he only takes the cream from the crop! Also, he calls em' like he sees em'!

If you stay long enough, he'll become this hybrid mix of mother, brother, Father, host and friend.

He's definitely balls dropping entertaining.

In short: the Rorster is simply one caring, affectionate, friendly, inquisitive Dublinguy! (get it?hah!)

NYC will be waiting for his guest appearance!

What to say about Rory? Honestly I know he uses the word "genuine" to describe himself, however, that is the most appropriate word for him. He is a great guy, with an amazing ability to welcome you into his home like you've always been there. Without a doubt if you are in Ireland this is the man to see. Not only will be open up his door for you, but he will make sure you're travels in Ireland are worthwhile.

He helped us searching for good places to visit, transports, Guiness, and Hitch Hiking to MayNooth's LIDL.

As well as giving me a place to sleep, Rory helped me sort out my week in Ireland; helped me figure out where to go, where to stay and how to get there. Thanks for everything Rory! Hope to see you in Chicago sometime!

How do I put into words.. Not only was Rory a gracious host, he singlehandedly changed the direction of our trip to Ireland. Rory not only urged us to rent a car (stepping out of our comfort zone!), he found the car deal online, mapped out our itinerary, lent us his GPS, and even drove us to the Budget car hire office and led us out of town so we could adjust to driving on the left side of the road!

Rory is an unbelievable introduction into the world of couch surfing for me (my first time!) and I can honestly say that without him, my trip would have not been the same.

Word to future surfers - Rory will do anything for you, he will go beyond what I would expect from a new friend (let alone some of my oldest friends), and I am truly indebted. He is a fantastic resource for everything cultural and historical. What other host would explain hundreds of years of history, showing the Wind that Shakes the Barley, pausing to answer all 100 of my questions!

A great host, sure.. But more importantly, a guiding light throughout travels and new experiences. Rory walked me through the process step-by-step from beginning to end..helping me build my profile correctly, hosting Showalter and I, giving us the necessary tools, askings questions and making suggestions. Our journey through Ireland wouldn't have been nearly as successful without Rory. He acts fatherly in the way he cares for and teaches his new surfers. He's a credit to his country and the couch surfing community.

We had a comfortable visit in his home and anticipate returning to Ireland and seeing Rory again. Thanks for the experience, I'll never forget it as long as I live.

Recipe for a rory on the rox: two parts jesus, double generosity, add one irish accent, carebare nature, santa clause beard, mix in better cooking skills than your mother, and double the food. Serve chilled. Serves 1-15 people.

In all seriousness, Rory may in fact be jesus reborn. He wants to help everyone in need, and can parralel park with his eyes closed and hands tied. He showed me the CS spirit, and He will be one of my best friends for a long time... if not for all eternity.

This guy is crazy... about CS! I´ve never seen such an active member!:-) Rory did a great job in organizing the CS New Year´s Eve party in Dublin - the party has been fantastic. He is also a great host. He drove us to the CS dinner, offered us a computer with internet access, gave us city maps and advice (i.e. about buses in Dublin) etc. - and he even didn´t mind hosting seven people in one room at the same time! When he told me how many days per year he doesn´t have any Couchsurfers at home, I was quite shocked (he is almost never alone in his appartment). So think twice if you want to ask this extremely friendly guy for a couch! He needs some time to relax!:-))

There is not enough words and space here to describe Rory personality... i could say that he is the best host of CS but that is not enough... he is maybe one of the few people in the world with that heart... his kindness and generosity to make you feel comfortable has no end... i think that if the world has more people like him this world would be so much different...i am definitely coming back to Dublin soon only to visit him... I find it hard to believe that a better host actually exists. Rory is one of the most generous and friendly people you will ever meet. He has been for me. He has a really good sense of humor that is always catching me off guard. My time in Ireland went from a negative experience to a positive over night, just by meeting him. Honestly Rory, if you wrote a book on Dublin, you would put Lonely Planet out of business. :) Hope we meet again.

I know he wanted me to give him a bad reference because he has too many good ones, but I'm afraid I can't help there. Rory gave me an emergency couch and went above and beyond. All I needed was a place to stay and he gave me so much more. I really owe him and I can't wait to return the favor.

I am not going to say once more how gentle and friendly and caring and uncomplicated Rory was as a host, it has already be done hundreds of times.
I would like to stress that what makes Rory so special is that he loves giving and sharing more than anything else and the only thing he expects in return is the feeling of making somebody happy. That's why i find him fantastic and i will never forget my stay in his place.

Rory was my first host and was my first couchsurfing experience. I cant imagine a better person to have done this with! He was incredibly caring, went to the extremes to make sure me and anyone else on his couch were well taken care and that we had a place to stay. Actually I planned to stay for only 2 nights but due to problems with my next host Rory welcomed me to stay one more night. When I was arriving at his place there were already some friends of Rory at his place which gave my stay a very international atmosphere. I was very pleased by the warm welcome of Rory (his food prayer and his many jokes) which made my stay in Dublin an unforgetable. It was a great start for my ongoing travel and I admire Rory for giving soo many couchsurfers a home for the night. Unfortunately I forgot my glasses at Rory's but he is now doing his best to get them back to me.

Rory is a great guy living in a great apartment. himself and his house really are the perfect example for the CS spirit! he is hospitable, gentle, helpful and generous. always smiling, always in for a crazy night even after hours of work. i wish i'll be a host as good as he is sometime in the future. as for his place... it's better than a tourist office. you can meet really great surfers, share the room, your heart and your days with them. and they all love him cause he is a catch!!!

I met this guy at a party he organised in Dublin with other couchsurfers. Thanks to him I met lots of people in town. But finally I really met him some days later and I realised that he is a great man. So friendly that it can be surprising at first, he is an amazing dublin guy, pleasant and interesting. He help me in my job steps whereas I just knew him for few days. I don't know how to thank him.

 

I met him because he and my flatmate are good friends, and we hosted him one night.

Finally! Yes! We met! After 2 years! Rory is a star... hosted me while he just got back from traveling, sharing a lovely meal with other surfers, singing till midnight... I couldn't ask for more. Rory nicely hosted my (with 4 other CS !) for a last minute request in the very popular city of Dublin.

Well... i just arrived back from Dublin and since "extremely positive" is not an option anymore,... what can I say? I guess i am still under the influence. This was some awesome trip - special thanks to Rory for making us feel so at home. I had the best time there, we had some great dinners, i learnt to curse in Irish and i really dig his sense of humour. I now got quite a precise idea about the way i want to host in the future even though i doubt i will have the energy to do as much for my guests as he does... (-;

Bram and I stayed at Rory's with several other couchsurfers, which was unlike any traveling experience I've had. It was great staying with people from about 5 different parts of the world, but it was Rory that made the experience all the more interesting. He cooked us all a meal and literally made us go out and see a really unforgettable Irish jam session down the street. Anyone who is lucky enough to meet Rory will find their traveling experiences to be much more memorable.

Rory is a really, really, good host. I had sooo much fun staying at his place. we had some great dinners, sharedd vulgar jokes, and well had a great CS time. HE is a very active host and staying at his place was a uniquie expereince. In all my years surfing I've never had a n expereince qquite like the one I had at his place. I met so many cool people through Roruy. I still don't know how he does what he does but I am glad that he does it.(;

Rory was the first person I ever couchsurfed with and I could not have asked for a better host. Other people were staying with him at the same time but he took time out to talk to all of us and make sure we were all well fed and drunk. He even got up in the middle of the night when we came home from a club to make sure we all had adequate bed linen. He is so passionate for the CS project and everyone can see it after spending even the smallest amount of time with him. I am just worried that my other hosts wont seem as good in comparison.

 

I was intimidated by Rory even before contacting him! Who has ever seen such a profile on CS? But he answered my request straight away! Rory is really busy Couchsurfing, and his place is very nice permanent CS gathering! There you meet loads of people at once! I was also very impressed by Rory's no limit sence of hospitality and generosity! He is very kind and treat you as a Friend. Doing so, he started quickly to pull my leg. This was quite fun as it took me a little while to realise that he's been joking all the way! Thanks Rory, it was a pleasure to meet you! And as you said, there will be another time!

 

Can't say much that hasn't been said. We just stayed one night at Rory's, after a bit of e-mail and phone tag. Despite hosting other couchsurfers that night, he made sure (insisted actually) we all had adequate bedding and full bellies. I don't feel like I really got to know Rory, but I do know that I feel lucky to have experienced his generosity and seemingly boundless love of company. He was very giving of his time for his surfers in order to help people see the most of the city. All in all, a very "CS" experience, but on an epic scale. Like I said though, didn't get too much time to talk and learn about Rory himself, but he doesn't need talk himself up, it's propaganda by deed, and this is a man of many good deeds.

There is almost no need to leave a reference for Rory due to the sheer amount of positive references he will recieve every single day. however, being a local boy I think it should be said that with him you will get the true Irish experience... hospitable, friendly, quick witted and just downright fun. Met him a few times after I joined and he's helped become totally comfortable with CS in general. Great guy

I met Rory when he came to visit Lyon (France). This encounter is what Couchsurfing can do AT ITS BEST !!!
Sometime in life, it happens things you can't really explain. My encounter with Rory has been like a spiritual connection. We didn't know each other and at the first sight i felt like if i knew him since forever.
After having a meeting in an irish pub, we met the other day for a lunch (in a franch restaurant in my nighborhood) then i introduced him to some of my friends (not CS). All the moments spent with Rory enriched me spiritually. This guy really spread love around him.
Now i know i have a brother somewhere in Dublin and i'm looking forward to see him again very soon.

One more reference to write - aaahh this one is difficult for me, as everything is said about Rory and his gentleness and kindness and greatness towards Couch Surfing and towards humanity.

WOW is all i can say.. My only bad experience with rory was only having one night to stay with him. I met Rory on a somewhat beautiful day in July for a quick drink and friendly conversation at the coffee sessions in Starbucks on Harcourt Street...

After a brief showcase of art, a coffee and numerous unfailed attempts to capture a good photo together we set out taxi bound for a quick pint in one of the many busy bars in the TempleBar area..

Rory is wonderful company and omits a certain ounce of genuine attentive warmth and playful mischievousness that eases one into a very open exchange of conversation and appraisal that leaves you feeling all gooey and wonderful inside

I believe Rory to be an ideal CS member and genuine motivator of charity, well being, and positive vibes.... I had a wonderful time with him and it makes me happy to know that there are people of his design out there that can help weave a better world

I've stayed at Rory's place for three nights. He's a very good guy, very kind and with a great sense of humour. I was feeling like it was my home! A very good experience.

Well, there's not much I can say that the mountain of references this guy already has have missed out, but I will say this, Rory is almost as much of a tourist attraction as the Guinness storehouse (at least to CSers) and after being a guest in his house it's easy to see why. I only wish I had had the chance to spend more time with him, and I'll definitely try to look him up for a couple of pints next time I'm in Dublin!

I met Rory by the Dublin Organisation Group just before St. Patrick's week. I've never met anyone as involved with CS than him. He put it together a lot of the gatherings and events, help people that didn't have a host yet and he did all that while having fun. Rory is such a respectable, helpful, nice person. So host him or try to stay with him!

 

Rory is super chill and hung out to get to know me and the other couch surfers he was hosting. He is the type of guy that would get along with anybody. Rory has a great sense of humor and really makes you feel welcome. As you can see he is an active and very popular member. The King of Dublin Couches is a generous host but a more generous friend. He's someone I trusted from the moment I met him, and that trust has been returned in a very full-filling way. He's well worth emailing for a couch but also for a pint if you're in Dublin. Bad karma on you if he ever asks for your couch and you turn him down.

My first couch surfing experience was with Rory. He picked me up from the city and took me to his place where I had the opportunity to meet with other couchersurfers. I visited Dublin and found family, my new, big brother Rory. Anyone travelling through Dublin can bypass the museums, pubs and tourist sights as long as Rory is around. They pale in comparison to his hospitality.

I am deeply convinced you are the finder of a new concept in the CS environment: an oasis for surfers to breathe before beating the road again.

I travel usually by my own with great freedom and independance. Nevertheless, I had the good surprise to meet some people in 5 days at your appartment from all over Europe and America. I had a lot in commun, sharing ideas on cultural matters and other topics. I felt crazy relaxed like never before. Thanks to you I've discovered good or gold friends.

If I dare a reference to you, I wouldn't say that you have got the CS spirit, Rory, you simply are the CS spirit.

Rory is spontaneous guy, very honest and empathic, with a great sense of humour. He is constantly spreading love and good will, through thoughts, words and actions. What I feel is a bond of heart and vast gratefulness. I wish that all the obstacles are removed from his path so he can shine fully for the good of all beings.

After surfing, traveling with and hosting Rory, I've gotten to know the guy pretty well. He's got a heart of gold. He cares for all of his friends and tries to make the world a better place. He also can bury pints of beer, bust your balls, have good conversations and offer good objective advice. His character judgment is top notch. No one has contributed to the CS community the way Rory has: he's hosted more than anyone in the world

 

Obviously Rory doesn't need any more references for one to be able to tell what kind of guy he is. After spending 2 days with him, all I can say is he is one of the nicest, most sincere guys I know. On top of that, he's got a pretty swift sense of humor, so stay on your toes!

Rory, our man! Although he just arrived back from his holiday, and was tired, he was really kind to host us for one night. He made us to promise to visit him again. We met also a lot of friendly other couch surfers in his flat, he really likes to take care about others. We wait for you in Hungary, hope to meet for a longer time!

rory is a very special guy! he's a very happy dubliner. His couch is comfy and his apartment is, as you can tell by first view, well-lived, heh. it's in a fantastic/ideal part of town and in a great/clean apartment complex. rory is a very memorable guy who loves his city and will ensure that you do too!

 

Rory has a very vibrant sense of humour and deserves the Couchsurfing Comedy Award. He was very helpful during my stay and is a brilliant guy to visit with. Really enjoyed his sharing of history and experiences.

 

Rory, is wow, a face for the spirit of couchsurfing. He welcomed me to Dublin, and connected me with the CS community. Despite his hectic schedule, we found some time to sit down and chat about life, Ireland, travel. Such a huge heart, but everyone must say that!

Rory was my first experience surfing a couch. I have to say that he went far and beyond my expectations as a host. My two friends and I surfed his house for 3 nights. His generosity and welcoming attitude quickly made us feel at home and we were treated more like housemates than guests. Rory was invaluable in our trip to not only Dublin but also the rest of Ireland, he is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this country. I am extremely happy that I had the opportunity to get to know Rory and make a new friend. Definitely do not pass up a chance to meet this wonderful individual!

Rory is a generous, accommodating, good-natured guy with a sharp sense of humour. He hosted us for what was supposed to be two nights, and when it was clear we would have to stay in Ireland longer (Indian visas...), recommended a short travel itinerary so that we could take in some of the West Coast. Then he hosted us again when we were back. He helped us a lot, and we do believe that we had the best pint of Guinness in his presence - coincidence? Cheers mate.

Rory is a genuine, caring, thoughtfull person. When I first contacted Rory from the states he showed a true interest in where I wanted to travel and how my trip was planned. I probably couldn't have gotten better information from a paid travel guide!!! His fun loving attitude is great, he is full of jokes and light hearted jesting. Thanks for a good time :)

Unfortunately, Rory and I didn't really get to see each other when I stayed at his place but for more than 10 minutes or so! Our schedules just didn't coincide, and for that I will have to meet up with you again sometime Rory so we can have a pint or something. In talking to him for a short while though I could tell he was really geniunely interested in our travels and making our stay comfortable. He was not even home but made an effort through a couchsurfing friend to find my friend Brittany and I a place to stay in an emergency, and could not have been more helpful. Well we finally met briefly at Edinburgh Rocks Pub Crawl. Rory is a warm guy who shared a pint with me. I owe you one! In November i stayed with Rory in Dublin, i found him warm, kind and really easy to get along with...also managing to pull a range of couchsurfers from all over Europe to sit down for a dinner together!!Take care and see you soon!

I guess Dublin CS meetings would not be the same without Rory! I first met him and felt trustworthiness, authenticity, simplicity, warmth! I always follow my instinct when meeting new people, this day my instinct told me to get to know him better. So far my experiences goes, thanks for everything Rory - a big smile on my face :)

My little brother Rory is a great man with a great heart! He is really kind, generous and a very good person. I enjoyed a lot his company and his irish humor (and I was the target of a lot of his jokes...). He is always thinking and doing things just to assure you have the best CS experience. I went to Rory's after hearing alot about how great and hospitable he was- needless to say, he surpassed all my expectations! A thoroughly welcoming host who loves sharing his stories and experiences with others. I had a great time staying at Rory's and hope to go back sometime soon!

I used to be a freespirit until I had my heartbroken, I did become more mistrustful and felt like couch surfing wasnt for me, I dont like to feel fear in this world because we need to learn to keep on loving and sharing and allowing strangers to crash on our couch. Rory helped me to remember how important it is to stay open and friendly to our fellow man. what could I add to all the very good references ? Rory is not a couchsurfer, he IS CS. He hosted me in Dublin during St Patrick's festival, and i had such a good time there ! though there was a big crowd in his flat at the same time, I had the feeling that he paid attention to everybody. he is a rare person (and funny !), and it is a pity i didn't stay enough to chat longer with him. hum...it's my fault...how were the crepes ? :-)

I was in Dublin for the weekend and I didn't know where to sleep.I met him and 10 minutes later I had a place to stay. I had one of
my best weekend in Ireland thanks to him. He really care about people. I will meet him again for sure.

 

Words cannot explain what a great guy Rory is. He is possibly too kind! :) Rory contributes so much to the Couchsurfing community and asks for so little in return. I felt so very safe in his home and in his presence. He is a wonderful host – always welcoming, kind, considerate and caring. UPDATE!! Met Rory briefly at a couch surfing party back in November. Had the huge pleasure of meeting him again and getting to know him better over Paddys weekend. This guy is one of a kind.He encompasses the couchsurfing "idea" and spreads the good vibes to all around him. I found him to be a very helpful and caring guy,ensuring everyone was taken care of each night. He also kept the paty going by singing classic Irish tunes at the end of the night. Rory is a very genuine individual who is more than just a host. He worked really hard to create an easy going enviornment like being at home when we stayed with him at his flat. We stayed with him during the Saint Patrick's Day week and he introduced us to many other great Dublin locals and showed us the way of the Irish. I just can't say enough about how this guy makes sure that everyone that is with him is having a great time! I met Rory through Ryan Guinn a good friend and fellow couch surfer. Ryan and I traveled to Dublin for Saint Paddy’s week and stayed at Rory's house. Staying with Rory was a very rewarding experience. He not only taught me how to be a better couch surfer, he taught me the Irish way of life. I highly recommend that even if you do not get the chance to stay at Rorys house that you meet up with him so you can learn from his experience on what to see and do while you are in Dublin and Ireland.

Rory was so kind for the start to end..he was polite, informative and really caring on whether we were having a good time. I trutly appreciate all his dedication. If wasnt for him, the experience wouldnt be the same...

 

I initially met Rory on the Dublin message board. We spoke a few times before I came to Dublin and although he wasn't able to host me (because he was already hosting 8+ people), he was very helpful and caring. He even offered to pick up us from the airport!

We met in Dublin for a little bit and although his place was full, he still offered his couch to us for a night. I got the impression that Rory is a genuine, generous and organized guy who is always up for a chat. I hope to see him again when I'm in Dublin next.

Rory is the sweetest host you could encounter and he made my stay over dublin in 2007 an experience worth retelling... had some exciting meets along with excellent foods but besides the things that you can see, its the unseen of rory's that impresses me the most especially as a host myself... i have to say that i feel very close to rory in his so irishly manner of hosting...
since one time was not enough, i came again for the 2008 edition and so far its been one hell of a good time! and rory you re full of shit .....

Rory is the flour of the bread that is couch surfing. It is people like him that make good couch surfers want to become great couch hosts.

Staying with Rory in Dublin made my trip so much better and the fact that he had several other surfers from all over there at the same time added a whole new level to it. While I was there I heard French, Spanish, and English just because of all the different people. I would strongly recommend Rory to anyone going to Dublin.

I had a wonderful time with rory he is incredibly smart and alot of fun to talk to. He makes a wonderful irish stew and knows absolutly loads about ireland. He is alot of fun just to sit down and drink some beers and talk to about life. Incredibly insightful and easy to talk to.

We met in a very interesting and funny CS party and we discovered we are both north-side-dubliners! Rory is great fun and I am sure we are going to hang out in Dublin many more times. what about a pint, or two, or three…?

 

rory i hope you know im not gona suck up to you like these other but kissing surfers...you may have clouded their vision, but not mine, im too clever for that....let me tell all how my true experience with rory was........

first of all upon making me breakfast, rory burned the blood sausage to a crisp...i pooped it out whole the next day.............................

secondly i was constantly harrassed for being a pol/american and "wound up", which i found out in ireland means made fun of until you blow up (luckily i can take shit as well as give it back), this treatment continued non stop for the two days i was there...................

and last but not least, he didnt even have an iron, which did not go over too well when i attempted to pick up some ladies later on that day.." you look like you just came out of a washing machine" was the response i received...thanks rory................

But in all honesty, who am i kidding, rory is the absolute best host i will ever have, and just to let everyone know, this above statement was made before i even got the chance to experience other hosts on couch surfing, thats how positive i am this experience with rory was one of a kind....to all that are thinking of surfing with rory, words cant explain him so im going to stop praising this dirty pirate and have you find out on your own why rory is such a great person.


ahhh, and finally i got to host Rory in Boston. It was extremely cold, but that didnt stop us from seeing the infamous rock, i had a good time getting to know you even more on our car ride over, not a dull moment on the way over...anyways you are just as good a guest as you are a surfer, i had a good time hopefully we can do this again soon.

To pare down Rory's generosity as a host and as a character of fine breed would take still years to execute. We had great conversation that could have far surpassed my one night of surfing - he is very knowledgeable and a great judge of character. If you want to have the ultimate couch surfing experience, or to go beyond that, to have a great life experience, I'd say Rory is your ideal cohort!

after starting in CS and hosting some people back here in portugal, I definitely couldn't have a better first host than Rory. he definitely has that irish welcoming and funny heart that I've been always talked about. everything that he did definitely made me feel at home (not to mention his irish stew that was AWESOME!), and it really was a lesson on how could I contribute a bit more to CS :) too bad that we didn't share some pints, but I hope that'll be done by this year's st. patrick's, while chatting a lot more. take care!
