See the CS Dublin events calendar.

CS Dublin has just created a CouchSurfing Zone Dublin at the Elegance Bar - where people can go and meet other couchsurfers randomly and where occasional cs gatherings are held.

For any visitor to Dublin this is a really valuable resource from CS Dublin offered to you!
COUCH INFO
I live in Dublin city centre just 10 mins walk to the main shopping streets. I have a large living room with a nice double couch bed - very comfortable im told from other people who have stayed here. You can do your laundry in the neighbourhood laundromat - after paying excessive electricity bills for 18 months, unfortunately from now my own personal machine wont be available so please dont ask. One good dictum I operate is 'to try to leave a place better than you find it' ... I think its a useful one for people surfing my couch too! Sadly even the best of people sometimes forget this ....
I have broadband/wifi (tho please dont sit on it all day!) and a really cool roof top garden offering great views of Dublin city! I don't smoke but have a balcony and people are welcome to smoke there. I don't have any pets. I am happy to show people around, travel around a bit outside Dublin - whatever you want if I'm free. I do like though that people actually get out and about when surfing my couch - when Ive some free time sometimes I like to enjoy my home on my own - so bear this in mind - that way we can all enjoy my home!
One thing to note is that sometimes you might be the sole couchsurfer - sometimes there may be others .... whilst not trying to replicate a hostel situation and wanting to give people a'home experience' the odd time there can be a number of other surfers there too! I hope thats ok!
I go to bed late and youre welcome to stay for a day or two - we can talk about it anyway! Hope to chat soon!!
Where is my Couch?
'Google Map' is great for finding your way and if you use it along with the pics in 'MY COUCH' pic folder of my profile it couldnt be easier! Look for my couch!!
TIPS ON BEING A GOOD COUCHSURFER!:
If youre looking for a couch - the best way is to write some couch requests which are personalised a little so that the host knows youve read their profile. This is much more effective than using group posts or solely cut and paste request addressed to 'Hey dude' or something similar! Together with having a 'fully complete' profile, of info and pics, make up the two KEY elements for a newly beginning couchsurfer!
There are tips to help you .. along with these pointers .... there is a button on the bottom left hand corner of your home page which will bring you to a 'tips' sections but here are three sections I think particularly relevant ...
'CS HOSTING' is one good link if you want to understand what it takes to be a good CS host! Secondly 'CS SURFING' is a link to give an insight into surfing!
Also 'How to write a good Couch Request' is very helpful if you want to be successful in looking for couches! Don't forget, when looking for a couch, don't use a regular CS message, always use the formal 'Couch Request'.
'MONEY SAVING' OVER-EMPHASIS, TIMING OF REQUESTS, VERIFICATION
A word of advice .... couchsurfing is less about saving money and much more about an exchange - personal, cultural and one of friendship - mentioning money in your request therefore tends to betray your lack of understanding of this concept ....
Also its best to look for a couch no more than 3-4 weeks before you arrive - most hosts dont want to commit to people outside that period as they wont know their own travel schedule ...
Please be specific regarding dates - if you dont know your dates - youre too early to send a couch request!!
Please dont tell a host that you will book a flight contingent on the them agreeing to host - this puts a host under pressure - better to book your flights and have a plan 'B' like a hostel etc.
I strongly recommend that people to aid security, strengthen their profile and to support the CS concept seek all 3 stages of 'VERIFICATION' if possible ... again its a little effort for a potentially endless return!!!
'COUCHSURF WITH' button ....
I get so many couch requests and ordinary messages all seeking a couch that sometimes the odd ordinary message can be forgotten about - hence its a good idea to make a formal couch request using the 'couch surf with' button - then it means the request is highlighted more etc ....I WILL MORE OFTEN THAN NOT IGNORE PRIVATE MESSAGES LOOKING FOR A COUCH - USE THE COUCHSURF WITH BUTTON!
YOUR PROFILE
Its much easier to offer a couch if people have COMPLETE profiles with info and pics - no problem if youve just joined CS'ing just try and have as much info/pics as you can (having a really full profile shows youre willing to make the effort and your general attitude towards CS)...if two people are surfing they should each have a profile unless they are married or whatever or will always surf together ... the extra availability of couches will more than make up for the time and effort involved!! A word to the wise ..... most hosts ignore incomplete profiles!! So do this first before you send out your requests as youve only one shot ....!!
CHANGES IN YOUR PLANS
If your plans change and you CANNOT come PLEASE contact me ASAP - a very small number of people don't show up with no communication and this is most disrespectful and doesnt consider the host nor indeed any other surfers who otherwise might have been acccomodated.
SIM CARD
If youre coming to Ireland for more than a few days perhaps consider getting an Irish sim card ( eg Vodafone have a good deal - cost - 10 with 15 euro free credit at the moment) to use in your unblocked phone as it means you and your host can avoid paying heavy phone charges for international calls/texts!
WHAT TO BRING
I have sufficient blankets, pillows, towels and duvets ...so just come as you are! Tho my roommate does like milk chocolate .... not Cadburys tho ... not necessary tho ... good chance I will like it too .... lol!!!!
AIRPORT to CITY CENTRE:
you have a number of choices when it comes to getting from the airport to the city centre:
Dublin Bus has two main options firstly the 41 and 16A are two city services that also serve the airport - the advantage of these is that they are cheaper - around 1.90 one way with the disadvantages being that they're less frequent, can take up to an hour and 10 mins and will only allow a certain amount of luggage. The other Dublin Bus options are the 747 Airlink and 748 Airlink both servicing the airport, city centre, bus and train stations, costing 6 with a journey time of 45 mins. If you purchase a one day Rambler Ticket from the machine at the 747/748 bus stop at the Airport, this ticket, which also costs 6, can be used on the Airlink services and all other Dublin Bus services that day! Good value if you decide to use the bus at all on your first day! Secondly the Aircoach is slightly more expensive - around 7 single but is more frequent - every 15 mins and runs over 24 hours with less frequency at night. There are also direct services from the airport to other parts of Dublin: Flybus with Tallaght and Urbus with Blanchardstown.
USEFUL LINKS
We are currently compiling a list of businesses and tourist attractions that give a special discount to CS members - in the meantime here are useful links for some general information about Dublin:
www.visitdublin.ie and www.dublinks.com and also for touring around Ireland www.foundmark.com/Ireland/ . There is also the free Sandeman's walking tour which lasts 3.5 hours, involves a donation payment and is cool! For a weekly updated e-newsletter of free events in Dublin the free Dublin Event Guide packs in a lot of diverse events which wont cost you a cent! For news on music, cinema and TV this is a good site www.entertainment.ie
For information on the national bus service which operates an efficient, extensive and cost effective way to travel all around the Irish Republic look up the site of Bus Eireann .
For alternative bus transport options to and from Galway look up www.citylink.ie or for travel to and from Belfast and Cork look up the blue Aircoach services .
In the case of Belfast alone also look up the Ulsterbus site for the joint Dublin/Belfast service operated by the two national bus companies, north and south of the border - for some reason information on this route isn't readily available on the site of Bus Eireann!
For information on the somewhat less extensive, somewhat more expensive but very efficient and speedy rail service look up www.irishrail.ie. Although they now have great online single fare deals at €10 a go!
A great new initiative is the dublinbikes scheme - they offer a three day pass for €10 with mostly free use of bikes during that time - first 30 minutes of any journey is free - have as many of them as you want! There are enough city centre bike stands to ensure that any journey will be almost always under 30 minutes! There is a bike stand just outside my apartment building in Smithfield!
For general tourist information including accomodation, the Failte Ireland site is very good and there are contact numbers for hostels so you can book them directly without having to pay a fee.... www.ireland.ie
and for budget accommodation especially hostels try
www.hosteldublin.com
and finally ....
If you address me as DUBLINGUY or 'Hey dude' or dont use the 'formal couch request form' when looking for a couch you will generally get a negative response - my name isnt that hidden and couch requests are much handier for hosts to keep atrack on .... ! Empty profiles or ones with inadequate pics/info will probably experience the same fate! Just thought I'd let you know .... your request and profile must compete with the 15 or so others I receive every day .......

From Nico B. Beziers, France Nov 6 Positive Surfing Rory's couch was my very first Couchsurfing experience, and encouraged me to consider couchsurfing as a basis for my next trips ! Rory was a perfect host, welcoming, generous and incredibly kind. I hope our roads will cross again sometime !
PS : Rory, sorry for the delay, I haven't had access to Internet in a long time...
From Lucas Klein Flagstaff, United States Nov 5 Positive Rory, thank you so much for being me and Emily's first CS experience, it was fantastic and couldn't have been better. It seems like so long ago (7 months!) that we ate Felice and Danilo's pasta in your living room, laughing and teasing. I'm still working on learning that song on the fiddle that you gave me, it's a tough one. But I'll never forget that night at the pub, the tour of Dublin and the market the next day and our whole time there, it was amazing. I'll also never forget your generosity and friendliness, thank you so much.
From Hugo Oliveira Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Oct 21 Positive Rory is exactly what i could call BIG FRIEND who have a real big heart! So kind, lovely, useful and worry about let his guests felling like in their home that the days there during my second week in Ireland was very pleasure and welcome. I just sorry about all my long chattings with him... the most interactive portuguese-english dialogue that i already had in my whole life!!!
From Roel Orth Breda, Netherlands Oct 20 Positive Rory is a great guy! has a great sense of humor and is a really generous guy. he showed us some interesting places where to go in Dublin. The next day, he even brought us to one of those places and drove off to some streets, where we could take some nice pictures (Guinness Brewery)!
The final day we went for breakfast at a coffee shop, where they serve a traditional Irish breakfast. That completed my short trip to Ireland! Bacon, pudding, eggs, toast and a large cup of tea. I had a great time!
Rory even brought us back to the airport. It was if I was saying goodbye to an old friend. Thanx for your friendship Rory!
From Mark Loonen Breda, Netherlands Oct 20 Positive My friend and I stayed at Rory's place for 2 nights and as our first couchsurfing experience it was awesome. We felt more than welcome and Rory had breakfast and beer for us, a nice couch to sleep on, towels for showering and clean sheets. We had cool things to talk about and it felt like visiting a good friend. His hospitality exceeded our expectations and we even went to a place for breakfast and he took us to the airport! Rory thanks again for feeling us at home ;)
From Felix Felice Vienna, Austria Oct 19 Positive I was happy to be Rory's surfer and I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere together with other couchsurfers at his appartment. Rory has a big heart with a very helpful spirit and he made my stay as comfortable as possible. I was also glad to hang out together with his old flatmate Fred, who is also the cousin of my french speaking tandem partner Katy here in Vienna :)
From Sandro Pelassa Torino, Italy Oct 17 Positive Rory hosted me with a short notice, kind guy! We meet surely in some meeting in Dublin yeah!
From Gustavo Garcia Almeria, Spain Oct 17 Positive Rory is exactly the kind of guy that you hope to find when are traveling around the globe. Is extremely generous and great host! Sure you enjoy meeting him!
From ruben tapia Barcelona, Spain Oct 15 Positive Thank you Rory for your hospitality, and for being as you are! I hope to see you soon somewhere else! Thanks dude!
From Andras Petro Budapest, Hungary Oct 13 Positive Rory hosted my friend and me for a rocking three days, and made our stay excellent! He is quite the personality, tons of fun, and knows everything you'd like to know about his city. While we were there he hosted two brazilians a half french half english guy and a fully french guy - it was like a CS camp in his livingroom, and he in the center of it, teasing everyone and making them laugh. Thanks man!!!
From HECTORUPS San Francisco, United States Oct 10 Positive I only spent 1 day at Rory's but he made my stay very intense. I am happy to have met such a CS institution after hearing so much about him.
I hope you liked those 'wagels' ... now i really have to thank Dan to introduce me to you!
From Filip Ciałowicz Radwanowice, Poland Oct 6 Positive Rory is a really nice guy. Not only he got me from the airport in the night, but he also made us tasty irish breakfest. He's a very good host, he was helpful and concerned about my visit in Dublin. Thanks!
From Michael Schmidt Marburg, Germany Oct 4 Positive We Had a good time at rorys. He is a more than kind person, who is very interested in making you feel comfortable. One good thing is, that he is very much into the history of the place and can tell you a lot of interesting things. Thanks rory and sorry for that key, man.
From Jeff Mitchell Lexington, United States Oct 2 Positive Rory was a great host and he was genuinely interested in me having a good time in Dublin. He is very knowledgeable about the city and he is more than willing to help. He is also very active in the local couch surfing community.
Thanks Rory
From Guillaume Stehlin Saint-Louis, France Sep 29 Positive Kind, thoughfull... Rory will do all his possible (and more!!) in order you have the best stay at his place.
We had a lot of great talk about human behaviour, life in general, philosophical topics...
Great great guy, I highly recommand you to meet him if you have the chance!
See U, bro ;)
From Guillaume Faury Montpellier, France Sep 27 Positive Rory hosted me and a friend for one night. It was to short, cause we didn't have time to talk (but we did a little!). Rory has a great heart and he is exactly the kind of person I expect to meet through couch surfing project. As the Irish people, he's extremely kindness and he'll tell you the best things to do in Dublin, thank you Rory !
From NOMAD® Villeurbanne, France Sep 19 Positive After long time just having "technical CS contact" through email & group I finally discover Rory irl :) 200% CS spirit, extremely easygoing and sharing over itself. Too many CSers are now just "coffee & drink" and Partying in CS and we need more members like him who understand that the point is to give a couch to the traveller then share a short piece of life together. Thank Rory to have open your door to me and Cobar ;)
From Javier Chapar Madrid, Spain Sep 16 Positive Rory is a great host! Really experienced about the hole CS experience xD He really saved me by taking my last minute request! I hope I can surf his couch again and spend some more time with him!
From Tristan Jardee Seattle, United States Sep 13 Positive Rory is an incredibly generous soul and is a plethora of information concerning travel (and much more) on the island he calls home.
From Carlos Chafer Madrid, Spain Sep 11 Positive Rory is a great guy with a great heart. Very friendly, nice and openminded host. I stayed 4 nights and I felt really at home. Thanks Rory ;)
From Jeff and Barbara Redmond Bellingham, United States Sep 9 Negative I found rory incredibly Rude and Uninviting. He came up to me at a CS meet-up in Dublin and preached at me rudely about having a backup plan and informed me that it would be unacceptable to mention that I was in need of a couch at a 'COUCH' surfing meeting. I am not accustomed to having a stranger come up to me and inform me how to conduct myself. His preaching to me was in interruption of a more pleasant conversation with other couch surfers and it insulted me to the point of leaving the meeting all together.
I am surprised to find that mine is the first negative comment on this profile. His contribution to CS is extensive, and I appreciate all that he has done here as ambassador and as host, (he was understandably unable to host me because of having 9 other surfers that night) but I feel that perhaps this has gone a bit to his head and that he may ought to step back for a time and refresh his perspective on exactly what CS is about.
From Robert McCue Lincoln, United States Sep 8 Positive The personification of generosity. Great guy with a great heart. Still in awe of this guys dedication to couch's and letting people surf them. Great place to stay, even greater person to know.
From Gavin Everett Toronto, Australia Sep 6 Positive thanks rory for letting me crash at your place, it was a great expirience and its true what they say, you are a couch surfing legend, Great craic
From Marco Conti Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Sep 6 Positive This man really took the meaning of "hospitality" to a higher level. I was hosted by him while other people were staying at the same moment, just because I wrote an emergency last minute request on the Dublin group and he was so kind to reply me on my mobile. He also found a parking for my motorbike, he helped with my luggages (and he still is keeping some of my stuff I have problem in carrying) and has been more helpful than any other person can be. Thank you man!! If you are lost in Dublin, he's the man to help you!
From Simon Staufer Schaffhausen, Switzerland Sep 1 Positive Rory is an awesome host and an extremely generous man. He instantly made me feel at home in his apartment, and we spent quite a bit of time together. He has a great sense of humor and his interests and experiences make for really interesting conversation. This guy has hosted so many Couchsurfers, and still he takes the time to get to know each one of them, which I think is amazing.
From Taylor Saracuse Victoria, Canada Sep 1 Positive Rory was nice enough to take me in to his home for a night last minute even though he already had 6 other surfers and was over his head with things to do. I didn't talk to him much that night due to obvious reasons, but did get to talk to him a few days later at a CS party. Rory is a very considerate man with everybody's best interest at heart. Thanks Rory.
From Nicolas dOrnellas Macon, France Aug 30 Positive Thanks a million Rory,
My first experience with couch surfing was positive even if I didn't speak english with you. I hope that in improving my english I'll met people and especially be myself with them.
Nicolas
From AXEL DROUADAINE Rennes, France Aug 28 Positive Meeting Rory was my first CS experience and I think that it will probably be my best experience.Rory is so nice, so incredible and has a very good sense of humour. He always gives good advice. In fact I don't manage to find the words to say how nice, how generous is Rory. These three days have made me changed, I can no longer be the same with the others after having met him. I just want to say thank you for all Rory.
U rock!!!!
From Guillaume VANDEVOORDE Aix-en-Provence, France Aug 24 Positive Hey Rory,
Rory is very nice guy, he really has couchsurfing mind. Thanks to Rory I could discover of numerous place around Dublin. Even if I had of difficulty to speak with Rory because my English is poor I thank him of for its patience with me and of time which him devoted me.Rory is a very nice person, open-minded, always present to help others people. When I will improve my English I shall to come back in rory's home with joy. Thank you for all Rory have fun bro;)
From Christophe Richard Strasbourg, France Aug 24 Positive Rory is really a nice person, he share all his life for other people. He gave me very good advise for my trip in Ireland, but allso share is opinion. I wish we had more time to talk together :-) Next may be. Way not in Strasbourg ;-)
From Jeff Krone Prague, Czech Republic Aug 23 Positive Words can't begin to describe Rory. Just a wonderful amazing human being. To lay witness to one man helping so many people is just ridiculous. He does it gracefully, with a sense of humor, and a big heart. It's an honor to meet him and a privilege to surf his couch. Best wishes Rory. Thanks for everything.
From Micky Drew Adelaide, Australia Aug 19 Positive Rory is an exceptionally caring person, he is an amazing character with an awesome sense of humour. He welcomed us into his home with open arms and made us feel at home instantly. He went out of his way to take us places (Glendalough was fantastic). He has a pure heart and is what couch surfing is all about. We will definately keep in touch and always meet up when back in Ireland. Thank you so much Rory, you are a good man :)
From Aaro Viertiö Espoo, Finland Aug 19 Positive Rory was an awesome host. It was really a pleasure to get to know him and hopefully we'll meet again. Always up for a good talk and helpful if there was anything needed.
From Mike Bartecki Chicago, United States Aug 19 Positive Rory was awesome to meet in Chicago and has been wonderful as far as helping me set up my CouchSurfing account and planning my trip to Ireland in August of '09. The fact that someone would take so much time out of their schedule simply to help someone out, amazes me. He's truly a great friend.
From Steff Goetz Augsburg, Germany Aug 14 Positive Rory is such a great guy! He hosted me in Dublin, and I felt at home. Rory is thoughtful, good-hearted, generous and upright. He taught me a lot about English and Couchsurfing. Rory also inspired me to continue to host/surf by being the best host and friend imaginable. Staying with Rory was an honor and an unforgettable experience! My friend, thank you and take care !
From SouthSpaniard Malaga, Spain Aug 13 Positive Rory was very kind and even before meeting us in person, he booked train tickets for us to make our stay in Ireland much easier. He also offered himself to give us couching, but we had already a place to stay.Thank you Rory!
From Shelli Nash Chico, United States Aug 12 Positive Rory was such an incredible host; going above and beyond is an understatement. Rory is perhaps the most altruistic person I have ever met. He knows Dublin inside and out, I couldn't have asked for a better host for my first couchsurfing experience. I agree with Philippe (3 references down) saying Rory should win the "Couchsurfing host of the year" award. Thanks again Rory!
From Mitch Beddoe Chico, United States Aug 12 Positive Rory was more than hospitable during my time in Dublin. He was my first couch-surfing host and he went out of his way more than once to make my girlfriend and I more comfortable during our time in the city. I'm so glad he was willing to do so much for us and I look forward to returning the favor one day in America. Thanks again Rory and take care buddy!
From Philippe Benamara Berlin, Germany Aug 12 Positive If there was a "Couchsurfer of the year" award, Rory would get it hands down ! he is an altruistic guy very attentive to people and he will do his best to make you enjoy your stay! A great personality with a subtle sense of humour ! Thank you so much and if you come back to Berlin, you'll be warmly welcome at our place! Philippe and Luise
From Nicolas Parent Coventry, United Kingdom Aug 9 Positive The place to be, the guy to know, here are the usual stuff I could say. But be sure, that there are a lot of thing to discover in Rory that really go further. I mean his huge heart and... I´ll let you discover.
I´ve been happy to meet you my friend, see you soon or later.
From James Mcgarrigle Derry, United Kingdom Aug 5 Positive a very positive experience. From the moment we all met - a v.fuuny sense of humor knocked me out of my tired sleepy state! this was followed up by generosity and a 'giving nature' of time/space/enery.
So far, Rory has been 'the daddy' of all couchsurfers :)
From Kasper Souren Brussels, Belgium Aug 5 Positive Rory is extremely welcoming. He went out of his way because of a little miscommunication on my side. We talked about food, life and hospitality exchange and I learnt a lot from his (at times differing) perspective. Staying at his place made the one-day stop-over in Dublin worthwhile!
From Daria Danyushevskaya Moscow, Russia Aug 3 Positive Rory is a great guy! I am really happy that his couch was the one which started my couchsurfing experience. I am inspired by people like Rory, he is a very genuine person, very friendly and intelligent. He also has a great sence of humour.
I think he makes this world a much better place.
From Kostasgri Athens, Greece Aug 2 Positive Rory is the ultimate representative of the Couchsurfing spirit. From the little time we spent together it was easy to see that he is open-minded, very welcoming to his guests, warm-hearted, bringing people from all over the world together. Thanks for everything my friend and see you next time!
From Michael Saliba Stuttgart, Germany Aug 1 Positive Rory is great representative of couchsurfing. He truly lives the couchsurfing spirit and brings people all over the world together.
We had very nice conversations and you find Rory to be a very warm, well mannered and well educated person.
I had a good experience and I hope to meet again one day.
From Marc Baumeister Steinfurt, Germany Aug 1 Positive Rory... what should I say? My previous speakers would have said all about you. Thanks for the good conservation, we had on Thursday evening. Thanks for giving me a last minute couch. I god a very good comprehension, what CS really is, while staying at your couch.
See you...
From Liam Hehir Naas, Ireland (Republic of) Aug 1 Positive My first time CSing and it blew me away. it was almost awkward how Rory immediately irradiated any awkwardness. Rory welcomed me with suck kind warm open arms, I can only hope the rest of my CS experiences will be half as homely. Rory is such a great genuine guy with a large dedication to CS, he took me in when I was disorganised and unfamiliar and made me part of his home.
From Justyna Nykiel Tarnow, Poland Jul 31 Positive I stayed at Rory's place with Jeff. There were few more ppl sleeping at his flat as well. From Kevin Post Medellin, Colombia Jul 28 Positive I meet Rory briefly through a friend of mine Ignacio Ojeda in downtown Orlando. We went out for a few drinks, laughed A LOT (incredible sense of humor) and talked for several hours regarding an array of topics. Truly one of the nicest human beings I have ever met. I greatly look forward to seeing him in Dublin one of these days.
Muy buena gente! :)
From Wolfgang Hasne Paris, France Jul 27 Positive Ah, Rory... It takes time to write a reference about him... He literally "saved" us from the street :)
However, it was an amazing experience, we talked, and share our points of view about a lots of things, and always, I mean ALWAYS, he had good advices...
In short, if you want both human AND CS experience, "Dublinguy" is the one you want.
Rory, Thank you and I hope that next time we see each other, I'll tell you some "news" ;)
From Chris McCarthy Burlington, United States Jul 26 Positive no one personifies the hospitality of couchsurfing more than Rory. He is a fantastic host going above and beyond in making sure you have the best visit you can have. I would highly recommend that while in Dublin you try to make a visit to Rory.
From Nicole Doran Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Jul 23 Positive I have only met Rory on a few occasions and yet I can say with clear certainty that he is very passionate and fully invested in CS. Everyone I know that has stayed with him has endless compliments about him, he is a real mover and shaker in CS Dublin!
From Kris Deslagmeulder London, United Kingdom Jul 22 Positive Rory is the CS King! If you need to describe Rory in one expression then I would say “Actions speak louder than words”. His initiatives to the CS project are not to describe in one paragraph. Apart from his enormous commitment to the CS project, he is genuine guy with a great heart. Go raibh maith agat Rory!
From Antonio Rodrigo Guzman Madrid, Spain Jul 22 Positive In Ireland there are many interesting things: Pubs, museums, natural monuments.....and Rory.
Thank you for hosted me in your home, thank you to teach me english although I'm a spaniard :).
Rory is a very generous person, educated, very patient and friendly. Perfect CS and and incredible experience. You have a friend that wait you in Spain.
From Enda Gallery Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Jul 21 Positive Great guy - the epitomy of couch surfing! Looking foward to seeing him again and getting involved!
From Chris Roberts Minneapolis, United States Jul 19 Positive Rory is one of the most compellingly wonderful people you will ever have the chance to meet on CS. His sharp wit and sarcasm are matched only by a deep understanding and empathy for people from all walks of life. As a host, Rory is generous, lively and always up for a good conversation. As a person he´s one of the brightest and funniest I´ve had a chance to meet recently. I felt instantly comfortable opening up to and connecting with Rory and he truly lives the philosophy espoused in his profile; this guy is a true couch surfer, he lives the philosophy of the program. If you have the amazing opportunity of staying with or meeting Rory I recommend that you don´t pass up on an chance to spend some time alone chatting with him. He has so much to offer and so many grand experiences in life. In short, Rory is a really great guy and asset the the project.
From Justin Rhinehart Phoenix, United States Jul 15 Positive Rory was the nicest person that I had the pleasure of meeting while couchsurfing, From the first day he greated me with such a great bear hug and calm positive vibes. I would Highly recomend surfing with Rory or even having a conversation on skype. Hes a very loveable guy
From Eli Malca Jerusalem, Israel Jul 15 Positive Rory is the true spirit of cs, very welcoming and willing 2 sacrifice his house in the sake of cs ;)
From Juergen Buchinger Vienna, Austria Jul 14 Positive I could write Rory is welcoming, good-hearted, funny, overwhelmingly helpful and so on, but there's no need to do so since it all has been written before in hundreds of refrences and whatever I write I don't know if it gives quite a picture of him.
Anyway, to describe being at his place the most accurate phrase would be to say it IS "the couchsurfing experience".
From Christian Scherrer Vienna, Austria Jul 10 Positive rory gave juergen and me the most cordial welcome one can imagine and kept his lovely manner inspite of all our austrian defects;) i've really hardly ever met a man with such a big heart and a gift to making it unobvious by means of a good sense for dry humor. i think one can learn a lot from rory, how to approach and treat people the right way and i think couch surfing is just the right environment for him to share his benefits. i'm really glad to know this man, although i believe i should have made more effort to get to know him better..but this might still be to come..thanks for everything!
From Georges Xouras Brussels, Belgium Jul 9 Positive Rory is a true CSer, really deep in it, you see it by the number of references and the sleeping places he has at his place.
From Nivaldo Petry Filho Brighton, United Kingdom Jul 8 Positive Rory is great, very friendly and generous. I feel very well with him, very welcome. He give me a lot of informations about places to see, for a drink, food , Irish music ….We had a good conversation about Irish History. He loves his culture and has a lot to say about it. With so much experience in CS, he really make the things easy for you. Uncomplicated, easy going guy. I learned a lot about Ireland with him and I am very thankful about it. I hope to see you again, “ Go raibh mile maith agat “
From János Torba Swords, Ireland (Republic of) Jul 6 Positive When I went back to the house where I live I had a strange feeling. I felt I just a guest in my room. My home is his couch even if I just stayed one night on his couch after a CS party and talked with him a few hours. This was my first surfing and I am very glad for it.
Thanks Rory.
From Adam Hubble Melbourne, Australia Jul 1 Positive I surfed at Rory's place for 5 nights when I was in Dublin. He is a very kind and caring person. When it came to helping out, nothing was ever too hard or too much of a task for Rory. He made me feel very welcome. It was great to meet people from all over the world thanks to Rory's generous heart. If it wasn't for him hosting a few people a night I would never of got the chance to meet fellow worldwide CSers. If your looking to travel Dublin I highly recommend contacting Rory.
From Kaden Hensel Mudgeeraba, Australia Jul 1 Positive I stayed at Rory's for nearly a week during my stay in Dublin. He is a very warm person and instantly made me feel like his place was my home away from home. He was very caring and would help me out in any way whenever I needed it. By the end of my stay I felt as though we had been friends a lot longer than we had. If I am to return to Dublin in the future I will definitely stay at Rory's.
From RAPHI1984 Worms, Germany Jul 1 Positive Rory is the bomb diggidy! I surfed his couch with some other fellow CSers and we all had a great time, thanks to Rory! To me it seems like Rory has a somehow complex personality and I'm still trying to figure that out, but so far I can say that I like it ;)
Thanks for hosting me and squeezing me into that car, I hope we'll have a blast quite more often in future!
Take it easy, Rory!
From Joshua Samuelsen Chico, United States Jul 1 Positive Rory was very warm and made me feel at home. He gave us a whirlwind summary of recent Irish history, administered a benevolent scolding of one surfers lack of concentration span, and offered me a chocolate button, all in less than an hour..Rory really embodies the couchsurfing ethic and has a little Irish bite to his humor to boot.
From Alexis TERREE Paris, France Jul 1 Positive I am leaving his home today, let's say i am leaving my home of Dublin today !
I arrived tired, and rory helped me so much, what a big heart guy !!! I felt so easily "at home". I loved talking with him, and sharing these few moments. I will come back and see him again, i'll host him in Paris with a great pleasure. See you guy !

Borja
From Liron Rosenbaum Brussels, Belgium Jun 23 Positive Well... to say something that wasnt yet mentioned about Rory will be a hard task. I just would like to thank Rory for his hospitality and warm welcoming (even if you wake him up on a Saturday morning).
I also learned my lesson about how to have a good profile.
So for all of that and a lot more I Thank you Rory.
Liron
From Bernard Vander Beken Brugge, Belgium Jun 23 Positive DUBLINGUY was willing to host us, but it turned out more practical for all involved to surf elsewhere on this occasion due to circumstances beyond anybody's control.
I'm glad I still met him briefly at a few meetings in Dublin, where he helped to organize. Thanks for the pub/live music recommendations!
Clearly a CS addict :P
From Kelli Priest Flagstaff, United States Jun 16 Positive Rory was so awesome! We got to Dublin and immediately met him at our first couch surfing party! It was so much fun and then he offered us to stay that night because we hadn't found a place. It was very nice and special of him and I wish we would have gotten to stay longer but he was all booked. He is a great guy and wants the best for his surfers! Thanks Rory!!
From MIKE AND CRISTINA Austin, United States Jun 15 Positive Mike - Rory's a great guy and a beyond generous host. From the first conversation on Skype to the last good-byes, he was not only great company, but incredibly helpful. Wish we could have spent more time there, it was a great experience.
Cristina - Rory was a spectacular host, he really tried to show us what CS was really about. Thank you so much for hosting and helping out the newbies!
From DENCS Ciampino, Italy Jun 14 Positive Brother's brother :)
Great experience. And great person. I'm happy and proud to have a new friend in Dublin!
From TYLEREVJE San Francisco, United States Jun 12 Positive When I first sent a message to Rory I wasn't that sure I'd get a place to stay with him because he's a popular guy in Dublin. To my surprise he still managed to find a place at the last minute at his place. His generosity and hospitality as a host are very abundant. It was hard to get to know him especially well but that's mostly my fault: I only stayed one night and had to leave early at 5am! Nevertheless, you should stay with Rory or at least try to get in touch with him, since he's got the heart and desire to help as many people as he can. Oh yeah, and his flat is right next to the Jameson factory! Enough said, right?
From KIP AND VANESSA Austin, United States Jun 9 Positive Rory was so generous with us and gave us a wonderful 1st couchsurfing experience--it was so nice to stay with him at his place and meet all the other surfers as well! ~Van
Excellent host, knows everything about the city and where and how to get to good locations. Even got me to play guitar in a pub! Had great laughs with Rory and he is a person you will never forget.-Kip
From Zach Robbins Lookout Mountain, United States Jun 8 Positive Rory was great to us from the moment we arrived at his door. He was very kind to us, very open in getting to know us, very trusting with his home, and very helpful in showing us a good time in Dublin and around Ireland. It was a great privilege and honor to stay with Rory. He is one of the nicest and coolest people I have met. I hope to visit again soon.
From Alexander Sooley Leland, United States Jun 7 Positive Rory was more than generous towards me during my stay with him. In addition to truly making me feel like I was at home, Rory was gracious enough to come find me after I sleep-walked off into the night. True story! I very much hope that I have to opportunity to meet up with Rory again sometime.
From Nicolas De Montpellier Montpellier, France Jun 7 Positive Rory has been a wonderful host for me during my time in Dublin. All the time spent talking together was fruitful for me as Rory knows a lot on basically everything (even on the history of Montpellier during world war II). In addition to cultural and life knowledge enrichment, Rory will make you laugh as the dry humour expert he is (just behind me lol).
Rory is true, understanding, devoted, warm, open minded and generous... Just a wonderful person as I only met a few in my life.
You should definitely seize the chance that you have to host him or to be host by him.
See you soon in Montpellier, my door will be always open to you.
From David Durstewitz Saratoga Springs, United States Jun 7 Positive If numbers aren't enough to convince you, Rory is a great host and a great guy. He greated me with a much-needed hug after a trying few days in Cairo and then took me in, introduced me to other great CSers, gave us all kinds of help, kept us laughing, etc. He was helpful when we spoke on Skype as well and has helped me, personally, get a sense of what to expect from my time here. Undoubtedly one of the best CSers in the system.
From Félix Patry Laval, Canada Jun 6 Positive Rory was the first person to host us and he was very generous to give us a chance. Very nice guy, generous above all and with a nice sarcasm sense of humour.
From Jon Looke Maitland, United States Jun 6 Positive This was my first couch surfing experience and only second time in Europe, but staying with Rory made Dublin feel like home. David
From Javier Gracia Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Jun 4 Positive Rory and my connected like a two piece that have to be connected. We were talking by the heart and I discover he has a big hear inside him and a good mind to talk with. Many experience talking with new people and he knows how to ride a conversation. Very intelligent and wonderful. Thanks Rory and sorry about Roby ;)
From LETSGOALEX Los Angeles, United States Jun 3 Positive Finally I had a chance to surf Rory's couch. He is THE CS KING! The best of the best in CS world. Genuinely honest, helpful and super nice guy. He put extra effort in to make sure you feel home at his place. He is the CSer of the year! I will call him DublinKing not DublinGuy:-) Keep up the good work and I really appreciate your couch and time. Thanks a billion!
From Kyle Pineo Berlin, Germany Jun 2 Positive Everything that others have said about Rory is true. He is a very nice guy, easy to talk to, and really cares about CS and his guests. His genuine personality shines the instant you meet him. I can't stress this enough. I enjoyed sitting and simply talking with him. He is an excellent host and is now an awesome friend. I hope our paths cross again someday and I wish him the best of luck with all of his pursuits.
From Jose rodri Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Jun 1 Positive he is a nice, nice, nice man
From Chris Paterson Gold Coast, Australia May 31 Positive Words cannot describe the depth of Rory.
Without repeating what all other references have accurately described of Rory I will just say that Rory helped create my experience in Dublin and Ireland. My experience of the last 5 weeks has been incredible. My whole CS perspective has been enlarged and now I take part more than I ever have. Thank you Rory for your friendship, your kindness, generousity, graciousness, instruction, humour, fun and opportunity to connect with so many others.
Remember 'my body is a temple!'
From Mike Capasso Wilmington, United States May 29 Positive My first trip to Europe was great, He picked me up at 5:45am from hotel and brought me to his place. He lives in nice area verrrry close to guiness factory. His roomate from Paris and his friend was very comforting. I was lil homesick my first night and they made me laugh alot.
he told me go to Howthe which is amazing where i met 2 other american and went with one to explore belfast.
Overall if it is your first CS experience Rory is the man to see. He puts you at ease quickly and his flat has other surfers coming so you rarely be alone.
From Naomi Levy Cambridge, United States May 29 Positive Rory is an amazing guy. When you stay with Rory you can rest assured that he will do everything in his power to make sure you have the best possible time. He is one of the most caring and accomodating people I have met. I loved getting to know Rory and his lovely sense of humor. Nobody will make you feel as welcome in Dublin as him.
From Marc Crane Lansing, United States May 29 Positive Ror,
Wow! Rory truly embodies what couchsurfing is all about. NEVER have I met anyone who has made me feel more comfortable and more at home. Rory is an EXTREMELY special person, that I had the honor of not only meeting, but truly getting to know, respect, and love. He has soo much love to give and so much knowledge about Dublin to share with everyone. I honestly cannot put into words my feelings about Ror. I have never bonded so strongly with a person in my entire life in as short of time that we had together. I KNOW that Ror and I will be friends forever. When you send Rory a surfing request, you damn well better be sure its detailed and thoughtful because you would be doing yourself an incredible injustice if you missed an opportunity to surf his couch in Dublin. After all....he is DUBLINGUY!!!
From Ruben Adery Buenos Aires, Argentina May 28 Positive From the moment I first walked in the door, Rory welcomed me with open arms (literally)! He's just the nicest guy who easily finds the good in everyone he meets. An amazing host, and now friend, who really makes his guests feel welcome, and I'm so happy I got the opportunity to spend some time to get to know him. You would really be doing yourself a favor to do the same! See you soon, brother.
From LE JEFF27 et CLARIS Montpellier, France May 28 Positive Hi Rory !
Our experience in yours apartement was amazing! Conviviality of your flat simply was huge!! You really are a person with a big heart. We never bored in your place, and we loved this night all around a good pint of Guinness!
See you one day at Montpellier…
From Tomas Sedlacek Trinec, Czech Republic May 27 Positive Rory is really great man. It was my first time I have tried couchsurfing and I think I cannot choose better person. I felt like at home there. Rory was so kind and really took care about me.
If you wonna ever come to Tampere or Trinec or wherever I will be, just write:)
Thanks for perfect intruducing of world of couchsurfing, bro!
See you, Tom
From Luiz Castel Campinas, Brazil May 25 Positive Through CS Search i got to this amazing guy.... big guy big heart... i think that would be the easiest short way to descrbie this lovely person... after surfing his couch in Dublin I had the amazing experience to get to know i lil bit of this guy, thats probably one of the most popular people in whole CS, and we who know him know why... :)
A pitty we didnt have the time to get to know each other more due to his work time and my partying too much in dublin ...
I hope we stay in contact... and of course... let me know if you ever go to that part of the world (BR)...
All the best! and Thanks a lot for everything... and very glad to meet u and have u in my contacts
From Margaret M London, United Kingdom May 25 Positive I truly believe that Rory is an absolutely wonderful asset to this project and having finally met him after witnessing how hard he's been working over the last 3 years; it's my pleasure to count him as a friend.
Rory made me feel instantly comfortable in his company and his home as he does with each and every guest. He has a sparkling wit coupled with a sensibility so subtle that he understands borders without ever breaching them. This proud Irishman also does a terrific job as he ensures that his guests get the most from their experience on his couch and in our country, Ireland. Namaste my friend, see you soon.
From Michael Young Boston, United States May 24 Positive Rory is a very hospitable, inquisitive, and caring. He hosts many people at a time so you'll meet a lot of folks if you surf at his place. We had many great conversations as I stayed with him and we formed a bond very quickly. He likes to meet new people and he not just meet; he like to get to know others. Great guy.
From Geoff Rabinowitz Oviedo, United States May 24 Positive Rory is one of the nicest people I have met and an absolutely wonderful host. I wish I could've spent more time talking to him, but my stay was short and we were all very busy. His involvement in this organization is an inspiration for all of us.
From Sean Bosman Christchurch, New Zealand May 24 Positive Rory was a fantastic host and is now also a fantastic friend. Staying with him was the best introduction to couchsurfing i couldve have asked for and ill be back there some day for sure! Thanks so much Rory :)
From Flavio Cipriano Bologna, Italy May 22 Positive I and my friend Fabrizio stayed 2 nights at Rory's place some days ago... Just before our arrival his apartment had some problem, but Rory managed to host us. Thank you Rory.
From Pieter van Winsen Leiden, Netherlands May 22 Positive Rory is just one of a kind, such a warm and open person with great sense of humour! We had an amazing time with him in the 2 days/nights we surfed his couch. I really hope to see you again, friend!
From Maxime Jacovella Versailles, France May 22 Positive Could not have thought of a better way than to start CS on Rory's numerous couches! Great experience and especially a great guy!! I recommend you stayed with him... Cheers
From Heinrich Lombardo Catania, Italy May 18 Positive veeery nice person... was my host for 2 days...
he is a big guy (inside more than outside) and/but really gooooooooood guy…
had great time together... see you in Sicily... ;)
I know you don’t call me when you come… :(
From PHOE_NIX Flushing, United States May 17 Positive Rory defies description, categorization or definition. If any one person embodies the absolute best that couchsurfing is about, it is he.
If you should be so lucky as to surf one of his many couches, prepare to be ensconced in a generosity not of this earth and in warmth that could melt the polar ice-caps, with good dosage of Ireland’s (in)famous humor to boot.
This angelic man will drive halfway across town in the middle of the night on the off-chance of resurrecting your malfunctioning laptop.
He has an impeccable taste in people (with an occasional lapse in judgment represented by yours truly); you are likely to meet amazing people from the four corners of the globe at his apartment.
Many people assume that bringing sunshades to Ireland is a waste of time and effort, and they are not wrong. However, while you are more likely to see a leprechaun than a full blue-skies day on the Emerald Isle, Rory’s apartment is always full of sunshine.
Tá mé ceanúil ort, bráthair!
From Paul Carthew Jurmala, Latvia May 14 Positive I really enjoyed Rory's warm hospitality and warped sense of humour. It was great to meet so many other couch surfers from all over the world as well. Thanks heaps :)
From Luke Falcon Sapp Washington, United States May 9 Positive I really appreciate Rory helping me out by allowing me to stay on his couch when I was traveling back to the US. He is an extremely friendly guy and his house was full of other CSers! It was really cool to meet other CSers traveling like myself and it made for great conversation. I hope that the next time I come to Ireland I can see more of it and spend more time talking to Rory. Thanks for the help again!
From Robert Wagner Dunkirk, United States May 8 Positive Rory was my first CS experience. At first he said he could not host me. Then I started IMing him. I found him interesting, and still wanted to be friends. Well, it turned out that he decided to host me for 1 of my two days in Dublin. Then, the 2nd day he couldn't, he did anyway. He indeed had many surfers. Yet still made room for me.
My first day in Dublin we had a large barbecue and pub party, that Rory organized. He also drove us out to both, and prepared food for barbecue.
He is extremely knowledgeable about the history of Dublin and Ireland, and gave us extensive lessons of many places around town. It was very interesting.
Rory also likes to joke alot, but has a big heart. I felt very welcome in his home, and am excited to return soon. My only regret, is that I did not have more time to talk with new brother. Perhaps on my return.
From Vincent Beaudoin Drummondville, Canada Apr 29 Positive Rory can tell you alot about a lot of things. Of course he's got lots to say about Dublin for places to see and go but he you can also have a chat with him about Ireland in general for a long time. Indeed very accomodating and without a doubt, very thoughful about CS. He is a "amazing opportunity" magnet because he host so much you'll probably meet someone when surfing at his place and you'll probably meet great people if you follow his advice about where to go in Dublin. I owe you more then one Dublinguy
From David Johnson Phoenix, United States Apr 29 Positive I surfed with Rory on 4/28 after arriving in Ireland and had a wonderful time. Not only was Rory extremely accomodating with suggestions and showing me around, but the other couch surfers staying with Rory were also awesome. Just a great experience at Rory's!
From José Balbo Cordoba, Argentina Apr 28 Positive I have just to say THANKS ALOT to you Rory for everything... Since first arrived made me feel like at home, told me things about the city and always was there to help if I would need it. Great person and hope we remain friends... Sure we will... Someday you´ll come to Argentina Im sure...
From CHAVALES Barcelona, Spain Apr 23 Positive A wonderful spirit with great energy! I hope to meet you again soon and share more good moments. Thanks for all the coordination during Paddy's. Carpe Diem!
From Seán McCluskey Chicago, United States Apr 23 Positive Rory seems to be on a mission from God to make everybody's stay on this planet a little better, a little easier. He is one of the most giving people I have ever met. I will certainly stay with him again upon my hopefully swift return to Dublin.
Not sure I could have said anything more positive than that - if you can think of something more positive, then that's what I meant to say!
From Jeff Chmielinski Chicago, United States Apr 21 Positive I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet. Rory is the poster child of everything couchsurfing represents. He is open-minded, generous, helpful, interested in new cultures, very accommodating, funny, etc. He made Justyna and my trip to Dublin that much better. He's willing to go out of his way to make sure you're comfortable and your trip goes as smoothly as possible, all without expecting anything back (but give back to him people, all in your own way, he deserves it!) Rory's a great man and I can honestly say I'm happy we met. Rory thanks for everything, not just the small things like lending us your phone for the week, but for the genuine nature of your character - you're a beautiful person. Ok, so that wasn't so short, but I hope it was sweet :)
From BELFORDIA Belfast, United Kingdom Apr 20 Positive If you need to explain CS to people, just introduce them to Rory - no better person to show how great CS is. 7 surfers total the night we were there - this guy DEFINITELY has a couch available! Wise, great sense of humour, flexible with times and type of guest - what can I say that hasn't been said? Meet this person while you can!
From Conor Phelan Maynooth, Ireland (Republic of) Apr 19 Positive I was shooting a Documentary about CS, and I contacted Rory. He went out of his way to organise Elegance Bar as a venue for us to shoot. It says a lot about him when he told me that the only condition of him helping me was that I had to have a drink with him soon, and I intend to keep that promise! :) See you soon mate!
From John Elias Sao Paulo, Brazil Apr 16 Positive I don't even know how to thank him for letting me stay at his place and also for general advises with my little Irish CS incident! He's an amazing person!
From MAX AND MYRIAM Thionville, France Apr 15 Positive Rory is a very generous guy. Thanks to him we lived a real couchsurfing experience: around 6 persons from differents countries met in 3 days we stayed to Rory's couch! We felt both at home and absolutly in the world in Rory's home! Merci beaucoup Rory pour ton accueil! Et merci aussi à Aymeric pour nous avoir ouvert la porte!
From Gruffydd E. Jones Aberystwyth, United Kingdom Apr 15 Positive Rory, Rory, Rory....
Very Irish - welcoming, generous, good-hearted, thinks he's hilarious and doesn't have a clue about anything!
I could not have hoped for a better way have my first CS experience, it was great meeting other surfers there and spend time together at food etc.
I had a wonderful time in Dublin, and Rory's eager charisma kept me smiling always - at him, of course.
Hope to see you in Wales some day!
Jones, the Welshman
From Y J Melbourne, Australia Apr 15 Positive Rory was truly an amazing host - and more: an exceptional human being. In the two years that he has hosted so many CSers, he would have had to be flexible and open to all walks of life.
Rory also has an amazing capacity to captivate a crowd with his stories and jokes - a truly unique abilty. Although he is one of the most generous people I have met, he endevours to improve himself in many ways, and I feel CS is a means to do so for him.
His hospitality was overwhelming from the word 'go': I woke him at 4am when I arrived the first time, he allowed me to cook and clean in his kitchen as if it were my own, he drove me first to my first hitching spot outside of Dublin and to the airport at 5am on my second stay.
Rory is worth staying with just to see the capablities of the human heart. My prayers are with you, my friend.
From Lucy Rojas Oslo, Norway Apr 14 Positive Rory is one of a kind. He does not only open his home to all CS, he opens his heart and shares all his knowledge with all of us CS:ers that cross his path. I felt really confortable staying with Rory as he made me feel at home. We shared some meals, laughs and conversations and I also got to meet really nice people thanks to Rory. Thank you so much. I really enjoyed being your surfer!
From Michael Fried New York, United States Apr 14 Positive Rory is an amazing guy. He is such a giving host. So long as you aren't Romanian, you should get along great with him.
From Pascal Ramon Beaucaire, France Apr 12 Positive Rory helped us from the very beginning to the very end of our stay in Dublin.
In the beginning he answered to our lastminute request on a very short notice. In the end he offered a crutch to my girlfriend who had had an ankle sprain. This was very helpful, especially for our flight a few hours later.
From Robert Whitfield Huntingdon, United Kingdom Apr 10 Positive Rory was my first couch surfing host and he taught me a great deal. He is greatly experienced and very highly motivated to educate and to spread the Couch Surfing word. Extremely helpful and genuinely friendly, Rory pointed out a number of top locations in Ireland that we would have otherwise have missed off our journey. Thank You very much!
From Craig Johnson Huntingdon, United Kingdom Apr 10 Positive Rory is obviously very dedicated to the 'Couch Surf' project and I think that shows from his profile. In person he's a funny and extremely helpful guy.
Look me up wherever I may be next and I can return the favor, cheers.
From Francisco Piriz Montevideo, Uruguay Apr 10 Positive Rory is so great! He has been more than a host for me, because he is always helping us a lot... He is a friend! It was very cool knowing him as a first experience in cs
From Jordan Whisler Columbus, United States Apr 8 Positive My experience with Rory was very positive. I hadn't had much experience with couchsurfing when I approached him, but I quickly learned the beauty behind this community. He is a very compassionate human being and I feel very fortunate to be his friend. I strongly encourage any and everyone to get to know him.
From Charly Brown Paris, France Apr 7 Positive Rory is an awesome lovely loving guy, his devotion and kindness is even unbelievable. Thanks so much bro, hope to so see you again (soon)!

He a true gentleman and a good friend. Surfing his couch was my first CS experience and I immediately felt welcome and valued and trusted. I look forward to surfing with Rory again!
From Jonathan and Kristen Mooney Niagara Falls, Canada Apr 4 Positive Rory took time to chat with me about couchsurfing, profiles and Dublin. I really appreciated his help and the good times he organized over the 2009 CS2 Dublin St Patrick's Day get togethers.
From Lucas Robinson Panama City Beach, United States Apr 4 Positive Rory put together a great CS St. Patty's Day event in Dublin. Thanks Rory!
From Chad Stevenson Austin, United States Apr 3 Positive Although the stay was short, it took no time at all to learn that the legend of Rory stands true... he is a warm, kind-hearted host who has the innate ability to make anyone in his home feel like part of his family. His contributions to CS worldwide are second to no one, which makes him someone you should go out of your way to meet. See you soon, Rory!
From Felice Valerio Bagnato Rome, Italy Apr 1 Positive What can I say? Rory made my days in Ireland, expecially in Dublin unforgettable for the rest of my life. He hosted me and my friend Danilo in his house and he openened for us not only his house but his hearth too. I was very grateful for everything he did for me and for all the laughs and good discussions and suggestions we made together. Thanks Rory!!! We'll see again, I'm sure.
From Brock Dickson Salt Lake City, United States Mar 31 Positive Rory was absolutely great. I couldn't have asked for a better first CS experience. Rory treated us like family and made us feel extremely welcome in 'our' flat. He was always up for some conversation, whether it was the middle of the night, or the middle of the day. Rory even woke up to make us some pizza at four in the morning after a fairly long night. If you have the chance, you should definitely try to meet up with Rory if you are in Dublin. He really is a mandatory visit anytime that you come through.
From Carrie Graves Navalespino, Spain Mar 30 Positive Rory is in a league of his own. His level of commitment, participation and passion to CS is inspiring. He opens his doors and his heart to the world and unites people from all walks of life. Rory thrives on interacting with the surfers he’s hosting and is so generous with his time and knowledge. We are BIG TIME Rory fans!!!
From Yannek Drees Kiel, Germany Mar 28 Positive There's definitely too much to say about rory, of which not one single thing is negative.
A true man for real.
You will have to fight really hard not to make friends at his place, so better go there unarmed to save your energy for the enjoyment.
If you have the chance to meet him and spend some time talking and joking with him, do it now! He will appreciate it.
From Violet Onderwater Arnhem, Netherlands Mar 27 Positive Such a great guy. Really really kind! and very comfortable sofas! hehe..
From Erick Valdivieso Madrid, Spain Mar 27 Positive Rory is a great guy, he was our first couchsurfer and he was really nice and cool. we hope he comes back again.

From Max Kupferman Buenos Aires, Argentina Mar 26 Positive Rory not only opens his home to host u, he also opens his heart to make your stay one of a kind..
He is someone everyone should meet at least once to see why everyone loves to stay and keeps recomending rory as a host in dublin..
He will make u feel at home at all times, and will share with u all his experience as a host, a cs and as a traveller.
Oh, and dont forget, you may be cool.. but rory is the coolest..
max (aka your smiley, bearded argentinian friend)
From Joris Bouwsma Wageningen, Netherlands Mar 25 Positive Rory is the personification of all that is good about humanity. He has incredible people knowledge and it was a delight to share insights with him. It doesn't end here, I'll be sure to stay in touch!! Be well brother.
From Clancy Kees Wingham, Australia Mar 25 Positive Rory hosted my first couchsurfing experience and it was nothing short of incredible. I didn't expect to see 8 other Couch surfers in his house on arrival, disbelief really, but somehow he was able to accomodate us all with the upmost hospitality. I learnt so much from him, unfortunately not enough about him (my fault) because of the non-stop partying we engaged over St. Pats week. Nevertheless we got along very well, as did everyone that was surfing there. Rory is one a a kind, everyone who stays with him will say the same, A big man with a big heart. Thankyou Rory, you know i mean it.
From Shane Smith Prior Lake, United States Mar 24 Positive Rory is a great guy with a great attitude. Enormously friendly and pleasant to be around. Not only did I meet the man, but I met some other really great people through him as well.
From Anne Rankin Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Mar 23 Positive Rory, unmistakably, is what couchsurfing is all about! I’ve had the pleasure to meet with Rory on a few occasions. His personal qualities combine and shine to make a great person and a truly gracious host, both at home and of course in the pub! Partial to the brew of the black stuff, a keen ear for music, and a wonderful cook (thank you for the dinner invitation, the meal was peachy yummy) I find Rory clever, interesting, open, witty (loving the banter) but more importantly to me, a clearly genuine person.
If you need a place to crash solely to rest your weary body, please go book yourself a hostel. If you want to travel and guarantee a fun and memorable experience, both for yourself and your host, go get a true appreciation of couch surfing and immerse yourself into a lovely person’ s mind, heart and home, Rory for sure is most definitely your man!
From Megan and Mike love Milwaukee Milwaukee, United States Mar 23 Positive Top-Notch. Rory, we cannot thank you enough for helping us our last night in Dublin! It may have been short, but your recommendations for sightseeing helped us get a good feel of the city. Next time, I'll sing you a little sean-nos over a pint.
From Jason Hawthorne Queen Creek, United States Mar 23 Positive Rory and I are brothers. If I could I would adopt his name as my surname. He is the most hospitable and giving person I have ever met. Anybody that gets the chance to stay with Rory will benefit greatly from the experience. Rory did more for Brock and I than I could have asked from 20 people. I had an amazing time while staying with Rory and will most definitely be coming back sometime in the future. You are welcome on my couch anytime mon freir!
From Daniel Ramirez Placerville, United States Mar 23 Positive well, where to start? Rory is the master host when it comes to surfing!he is very relaxed and happy to meet you. Rory's home was not just a place for us to sleep, but a place to meet some amazing people! he is great, i only wish we could have spent more time together. a great honor to stay with you! thank you for all your help! see you in cali!
From Marek Klein Berlin, Germany Mar 22 Positive My roommate Robert and me thought about a trip to Dublin and just right after we had booked our flights, we found out, that there is St. Patricksday at the time of our expected visit. So our hopes about a free couch were gone far before our trip. But what a surprise, the Dublinguy answered our reqeuest and made our jouney possible. In the end it was not just a couch he offered us, it was a lot of hospitality, friendliness, many pitchers of beer, a T-shirt and a mass of good impressions we got from Rory! Thanks man, we really enjoyed our trip to Dublin and we hope to see you again.
From Keith Ries Houston, United States Mar 22 Positive I had the opportunity to meet up with Rory and to also have dinner with him and some other couch surfers in Dublin. Rory is a great guy who definitely believes in the Couch Surfing project. My buddy Tommy and Myself truly enjoyed our time with Rory at the Cobblestone Pub, his house over dinner, and having conversations about life in Ireland. I would encourage everbybody to find time to meet this guy. He will not disappoint you. Rory thanks for all of your help along with the GPS you let us borrow. Hopefully our paths will cross sometime in the near future. Look me up if you are in Houston.
From Nuno Amaral Belas, Portugal Mar 22 Positive meet rory on the cs meeting for st paddys in dublin.
he was allways very nice and helpfull and made some really wonderfull organization of the events.
tx a lot m8
cheers
From Paul Gebert Eberswalde, Germany Mar 21 Positive It just happens that if friends drag you around from place to place, we two always meet up somewhere. Have known this real Dublin guy for years, before I actually knew what CouchSurfing was about, just wondered every time, who were all those good damn nice people of those big events!? That´s how it stayed till today, always when I get back to Dublin. There is a connection, no one needs to explain, it´s just there.
Cheers Rory
From Alice Wilczynski Essen, Germany Mar 21 Positive Rory is such a very very nice and hospitable person, he even insisted on me having his meal one evening, next time you really won't have to do that.
There really should be more open minded and very interesting and nice people the way Rory is!
From Derek Smith South Plainfield, United States Mar 20 Positive Rory, Rory, Rory, what can be send without writing an epic tale of your generousity and good will nature. Rory decided to invest in a community on an idea to share experiences and cultures everywhere. He brought all into his home and treated them like brothers and sisters. He exhilarates personification in the sense that no one can match his heart, soul, and mind. The best thing that you can do is learn from him, and become better as a person. Rory, gives hope for humanity, I was losing it, and he reinstated it ten-fold. I am a better man because I met him, and will take the lessons learned into the future and transcend my knowledged gained.
From Martin Randall Montevideo, Uruguay Mar 20 Positive it was really cool to stay with rory! he is a great host, and he supported us a lot on our integration on Dublin... He makes some really nice CS parties (very recommended) and has an extremely fun sense of humor (matches me)...
he's a friend, and it was great having him as first CS experience!
From Cristhian Nagel Fresno, United States Mar 18 Positive Talk about hospitality. Rory is definitely one of the most hospitable persons i have crossed paths with and I feel very fortunate for it. Thanks for looking out for me and making my stay in Dublin very pleasant. I look forward to returning and meeting up for a beer. Take care my friend
From Niall Dolan Limerick, Ireland (Republic of) Mar 18 Positive In the past two years I have met Rory at various Couchsurfing events but unfortunately we have just talked for a short period of time. My twin brother and some friends speak the world of him. I have met people travelling in various countries who have mentioned how much of a good soul he is. Sometimes when I am hitchhiking and I start telling a stranger about Couchsurfing, I use Rory as an example of a human being who is living proof of generosity. Not only does he represent a nice side to Irish culture, he appears to be a true internationalist.
From Luca Cerone Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Mar 18 Positive Rory is a very nice people,
making a lot of efforts to organize events and let people have great time and "Craic" in Dublin!
He was very busy during these days, but he always was open for a chat and to ensure people were great!
One of the nicest people I have met here in Dublin!
From Andrea Cerone Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Mar 18 Positive Rory is one of the main CS events organizers in Dublin.
During the week before St. Patrick he organized many events for travelling couchsurfers... He is really kind and he is someone everybody would (and should) meet
From Robert Krehl Berlin, Germany Mar 17 Positive Have you ever been to Irland? Have you ever seen this wonderful country with its beautiful countryside? Have you ever been to Dublin and drank a beer or have a meal in one of its old and lovely pubs? No? So you really have to go there!
If you do so, be sure to meet Rory once! I think you would enjoy to drink one or two beer and joking with this "Dublinguy" and be sure to greet him well of me!
I know, he's very busy all the time, but there is one thing to say:
Being a very good friend, doesn't only mean to spend a lot time WITH your friends, but also mean to donate a lot of your time FOR your friends...and at least in the last case, Rory is one of the best friends for all Dublin visiting couchsurfers!
Many thanks for hosting me and Marek! We enjoyed it very much and looking forward our next visit to Dublin! Keep always who you are!
From Stefanie Gratz Amsterdam, Netherlands Mar 17 Positive What a comitted host!!!! Dublinguy aka Rory has been a wonderful host even only for one night he's cooked for me and a fellow couchsurfer, answered all our questions most patiently, helped me on my way in Dublin, sheared his friends and even took me to my next host. It's been quite an awesome experience to be welcomed with such warmth and openness!! Rory rocks! Bless you!
From Guillaume Dumas Saint-Etienne, France Mar 15 Positive Rory... What a wonderful man and an incredible host!
Rory is genuine, curious, human. There are not enough superlatives in my small english dictionary to describe him!
I've discovered the irish dry ironic humour (and I like it! :)), an interesting way of seeing the Ireland's history and the existence of a new brother that I didn't suspect!
Thanks Bro' for this very nice evening, this good exchange and for the invitation.
Happy St Patrick and see you soon in Dublin!
Take care.
From Matt Gibney Lincoln, United States Mar 11 Positive Rory is truly a wonderful host. I felt right at home by his welcoming spirit, generosity, and helpfulness. He had many tips on Dublin and couchsurfing, and did everything he could to make my stay even better. I enjoyed talking with him and listening to his jokes, and was very much appreciative of his dry sense of humor. He really made me laugh! I am grateful to have met such a genuine person. He's not only a great host, but also a great friend. Thank you for everything Rory, and I hope to see you again soon!
From Fritjof Lammers Bochum, Germany Mar 10 Positive It was my first CS experience staying in Dublin during a weekend trip with my friend Benni.
Surfing Rorys couch was the best thing that happened in that time. Rory make you feel what CSìng is all about: Getting in touch with new people, trust people and love people. He is such a great guy and we had a very good time staying at him, having good and funny chats with him and his other guests.
Rory, thanks for this great 3 days in Dublin, surfing your couch and all of your great advices and tipps. Thanks!
From Benni Grzesiak Bochum, Germany Mar 10 Positive Rory!
It was the best that could happened to us in Ireland. Think it was the luck o´the irish to meet him. Staying at his apartment was like to stay at your family. He is sooooooooo open minded and he´s makin jokes. He also can laugh about himself. He really helped us with his expierience of dublin and gave many tips for beeing a good couchsurfer.
He gave us directly the love of a good friend and I always loved to be back at home. If we needed help we could ask him everytime. I don´t know what to say, because it was so amazing. Never met a guy like him.
His words "it´s nice to be nice" brandmarked me, because that´s what this is all about.
There should be more people like the Dublin Guy. Hope he will visit Bochum soon.
Looking forward to be good friends.
Thank you for everything
Benni
and: "Dublin is not in Ireland, Dublin is, where the Dublin Guy is"
From Ismael Eggers Teutonia, Brazil Mar 10 Positive Well,
Rory already has hundreds of references.
Because what? Because he is and amazing guy, very receptive and a great friend and not only a simple host.
I spent my birthday in Dublin and he surprised me with a great dinner and a birthday cake.
I was so happy to receive this tribute.
Thank you Rory.
Hope see you soon man.
From Maarten Van Sonsbeek Leiden, Netherlands Mar 8 Positive Wow where to start with this great guy??? Stayed at his place for 4 nights...rory was very warm and welcoming to me and my friend...Gotta love his sense of humor, man I had some of the best bullshitting conversations ever in my life...and I'm a pro...Finally found my match!
He just a Big Friendly Giant, lots of love for Rory. Gave us good tips for getting around in Dublin, let us do our things also...Great guy!
Hope we meet again sometimes! Take care bro...
From Horia Constantin Bucharest, Romania Mar 4 Positive Although we only met for a couple of beers, I can say that Rory is the living proof that the generation gap can be easily be overcome. He's big guy with a great, positive and friendly personality, meeting him is a very pleasurable experience.
From Tommy Erwin Porter, United States Mar 3 Positive Rory was a tremendous help to my friend and I on our trip to Ireland. Rory aided in a great dinner conversation among his guests. Rory never makes you feel awkard and is interested in your culture and background. Very funny guy and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit with him. One of the more memorable events on our trip.
Thanks Rory.
From Noa Schechter Jerusalem, Israel Feb 26 Positive Rory is a good friend and an interesting fellow. We only met each other briefly, but I have a feeling this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship:)
From Indigo Anya Norwich, United Kingdom Feb 24 Positive Rory is a generous soul with a great sense of humor and a welcoming nature. He'll make you feel at home, recommend places to go in Dublin, and cook up a mean Irish stew if he's got the time. He's an all-round good guy.
From Harald Blonk Utrecht, Netherlands Feb 22 Positive Had a great time in Dublin!! Rory hosted me and a friend for a few days. Enjoyed the city and thanks to Rory. He knows much about Dublin (and more) and had some great tips (thanks! ;)) So, a real great Irish lad, nice to have some or more chats with! Thanks, man!
From Peter Rechberger Elsene - Ixelles, Belgium Feb 19 Positive Rory, it was great finally meeting you. When all of Dublin seemed to be too busy Rory helped us (me ans Janis, see reference below) out and much more than that. He is a true ambassador of CS, pointing out how to enhance your profile, meet people, go places and increase the CS experience.
I hope to see you soon in Brussels, Austria, Madrid or elsewhere.
From Paul Broadhead Bristol, United Kingdom Feb 18 Positive Hard to put into words how much effort Rory puts into Couchsurfing. Thought the best way to express our gratitude would be to write a poem.
We met this guy in Ireland,
Couchsurfing is his game,
He is known as 'Dublinguy',
Rory is his name.
We only stayed the one night,
But really feel we clicked,
We're glad that when we did a search
It was Rory that we picked.
If you should get the chance
To stay with 'Dublingguy',
Please take the opportunity,
Here's the reason why...
He offers much in many ways,
Too much for us to list,
He's even in the dictionary
Look under 'altruist'
Advice on our excursions,
A friendly listening ear
And if your really lucky
He may join you for a beer (or Guinness but it didn't rhyme!)
However, if you are not willing
To talk and learn and share,
This may not be the couch for you
You perhaps should search elsewhere!
Cheers Rory. Hope to see you again soon.
Paul & Caron x
From Benjamin Graneberg Aarhus, Denmark Feb 18 Positive Rory gave us a great time in Dublin. He is everthing a CS-host should be; welcoming, warm, openminded, fun and honest. I recommend all CS'ers in or visiting Dublin, to get to know this guy!
From Guillaume BREUX Caen, France Feb 16 Positive I spent 2 great days in Dublin! 2 days were really too short to visit this city but Rori's advices were very helpfull, he made everything he could to make things easy! I think that I'll come back in few years to see Dublin and Rori again!
From Janis Leung Elsene - Ixelles, Belgium Feb 12 Positive We were very lucky to meet this great star of Dublin (you really cannot miss him out when you’re in Dublin!) and had a really nice time together, even thought our time was short. Could not imagine that how come he has such a helpful heart and energy to host right after his trip in Madrid…and made a great irish breakfast in the morning even he was tired!!
Thank you very much Rory!! It was our honour to stay and meet you! See you next time in Dublin, or if you have time to check out Austria, or maybe Asia, or Hong Kong – please let us know! And hope you like the cookies ;)
Janis and Peter
From Josh Fairhead Kilbrittain, Ireland (Republic of) Feb 10 Positive Cool night brother! Hopefully I'll make it to the next one aswell and if I don't I will make it to the one after that!!!
Peace
From Shona McCambridge Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Feb 10 Positive Great guy! fabulous organiser for what was a brilliant night, can't wait for the next one!
From Minh-Anh PHAM Toulouse, France Feb 8 Positive Couching in Rory's in Dublin was only my second experience as a guest and yet I can tell how lucky I was! My prior couchsurfing experience had been brillant but this one was even better. Rory is one of those rare men who gives you hope, who makes you want to continue couchsurfing so badly. He is big-hearted and spreads good spirit all over the place. If you ever get the chance to couchsurf Rory's, please take this precaution: don't be too kind with this guy otherwise he will give you it back twice over! He added a remarkable human dimension to my trip. Outstanding! Take care my friend.
From Nicolas Supertramp Poitiers, France Feb 5 Positive Rory...great!!!! thanks for your hospitality, it was just awesome...See ya mate
From Jonas Cortines Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Feb 4 Positive Rory is amazing!! I felt like i was home in dublin. One of the best (maybe the best) hoster ever! Everybody should knows him!!
From Ricky Herbert New York, United States Feb 3 Positive Rory, Rory, Rory...
He's a local celebrity and known on the CS scene world-wide.
Have you seen the movie Hostel?...
Put it this way: I felt deja vu on more than one occasion. My last two days in Dublin were shared with more than a handful of CSers from all over the world who were also being hosted by Rory. His house was like a free International Youth Hostel with an open door policy.
Don't even try and take advantage of this though, he only takes the cream from the crop! Also, he calls em' like he sees em'!
If you stay long enough, he'll become this hybrid mix of mother, brother, Father, host and friend.
He's definitely balls dropping entertaining.
In short: the Rorster is simply one caring, affectionate, friendly, inquisitive Dublinguy! (get it?hah!)
NYC will be waiting for his guest appearance!
From eleina.x Falmouth, United Kingdom Feb 3 Positive Rory is amazing! The amount of effort he puts into the couchsurfing project is awesome! Rory hosts so many people and does everything with the enthusiasm. He cares a lot about his couchsurfers. He is happy to help people and meet new travelers from all world!
Rory is a master of couchsurfing host, it really was an great stay. And he invited me and my friend to Dublin's CS member party, which was cool as well, to see other hosts and their surfers!!!!
Thank you very much Rory!!! I hope to meet you again.
From Lance Nation Harrisonburg, United States Jan 28 Positive What to say about Rory? Honestly I know he uses the word "genuine" to describe himself, however, that is the most appropriate word for him. He is a great guy, with an amazing ability to welcome you into his home like you've always been there. Without a doubt if you are in Ireland this is the man to see. Not only will be open up his door for you, but he will make sure you're travels in Ireland are worthwhile.
From IENIENCHE Marseille, France Jan 23 Positive Rory is an amazing person. He host us during 5 nights (!).
We were very impressed by his way to host couchsurfers : Rory's house quickly becomes yours !
He helped us searching for good places to visit, transports, Guiness, and Hitch Hiking to MayNooth's LIDL.
We had a wide view of Irish Stores and we enjoyed it, again thanks to Rory (lol)...
THANK YOU rory, hope you will fly to Nantes someday :) !!
See ya at Maynooth !
Adrien + Mika
From Keith Norman Chicago, United States Jan 22 Positive As well as giving me a place to sleep, Rory helped me sort out my week in Ireland; helped me figure out where to go, where to stay and how to get there. Thanks for everything Rory! Hope to see you in Chicago sometime!
From Allison Liechty Chicago, United States Jan 22 Positive How do I put into words.. Not only was Rory a gracious host, he singlehandedly changed the direction of our trip to Ireland. Rory not only urged us to rent a car (stepping out of our comfort zone!), he found the car deal online, mapped out our itinerary, lent us his GPS, and even drove us to the Budget car hire office and led us out of town so we could adjust to driving on the left side of the road!
Rory is an unbelievable introduction into the world of couch surfing for me (my first time!) and I can honestly say that without him, my trip would have not been the same.
Word to future surfers - Rory will do anything for you, he will go beyond what I would expect from a new friend (let alone some of my oldest friends), and I am truly indebted. He is a fantastic resource for everything cultural and historical. What other host would explain hundreds of years of history, showing the Wind that Shakes the Barley, pausing to answer all 100 of my questions!
Rory - THANK YOU!
From Joseph Welsh Waldorf, United States Jan 15 Positive A great host, sure.. But more importantly, a guiding light throughout travels and new experiences. Rory walked me through the process step-by-step from beginning to end..helping me build my profile correctly, hosting Showalter and I, giving us the necessary tools, askings questions and making suggestions. Our journey through Ireland wouldn't have been nearly as successful without Rory. He acts fatherly in the way he cares for and teaches his new surfers. He's a credit to his country and the couch surfing community.
We had a comfortable visit in his home and anticipate returning to Ireland and seeing Rory again. Thanks for the experience, I'll never forget it as long as I live.
From Simon Buckden Leeds, United Kingdom Jan 8 Positive Rory is known for his efforts on Couchsurfing and I certainly respect him for the work that he does on Couchsurfing. I hope that he also appreciates the efforts of others around him as well.
From William Leitzman Minneapolis, United States Jan 8 Positive Rory is a fantastic host (as already described by references below) with an extensive knowledge of Ireland and a big heart. He is always there to help you when you need it and ready to be your friend. I highly recommend him as a host, and was lucky to have him as my first host outside my country. Thanks!
From Jacob Showalter Cockeysville, United States Jan 8 Positive GREAT Guy! Rory hosted a buddy and I at his apartment. Great host, very amaible and was extremely willing to help us out any way possible. Outstanding host, hope to surf with him again soon!
From Jonathan Potter Pittsburgh, United States Jan 7 Positive Recipe for a rory on the rox: two parts jesus, double generosity, add one irish accent, carebare nature, santa clause beard, mix in better cooking skills than your mother, and double the food. Serve chilled. Serves 1-15 people.
In all seriousness, Rory may in fact be jesus reborn. He wants to help everyone in need, and can parralel park with his eyes closed and hands tied. He showed me the CS spirit, and He will be one of my best friends for a long time... if not for all eternity.
From NAMEDESBENUTZERS Mannheim, Germany Jan 6 Positive This guy is crazy... about CS! I´ve never seen such an active member!:-) Rory did a great job in organizing the CS New Year´s Eve party in Dublin - the party has been fantastic. He is also a great host. He drove us to the CS dinner, offered us a computer with internet access, gave us city maps and advice (i.e. about buses in Dublin) etc. - and he even didn´t mind hosting seven people in one room at the same time! When he told me how many days per year he doesn´t have any Couchsurfers at home, I was quite shocked (he is almost never alone in his appartment). So think twice if you want to ask this extremely friendly guy for a couch! He needs some time to relax!:-))
Rory, feel free to surf my couch if you are in my area one day - or see you next time when I´m in Dublin!
From ALEJANDRONUHE Chihuahua, Mexico Jan 6 Positive There is not enough words and space here to describe Rory personality... i could say that he is the best host of CS but that is not enough... he is maybe one of the few people in the world with that heart... his kindness and generosity to make you feel comfortable has no end... i think that if the world has more people like him this world would be so much different...i am definitely coming back to Dublin soon only to visit him... Thank you for everything.. we still need to try your nose clip brother...
From Tom Keenan Malaga, Spain Jan 5 Positive I find it hard to believe that a better host actually exists. Rory is one of the most generous and friendly people you will ever meet. He has been for me. He has a really good sense of humor that is always catching me off guard. My time in Ireland went from a negative experience to a positive over night, just by meeting him. Honestly Rory, if you wrote a book on Dublin, you would put Lonely Planet out of business. :) Hope we meet again.
From Barry Hott York, United States Dec 31, 2008 Positive I know he wanted me to give him a bad reference because he has too many good ones, but I'm afraid I can't help there. Rory gave me an emergency couch and went above and beyond. All I needed was a place to stay and he gave me so much more. I really owe him and I can't wait to return the favor.
From Lucas LEFEBVRE Bamako, Mali Dec 22, 2008 Positive I am not going to say once more how gentle and friendly and caring and uncomplicated Rory was as a host, it has already be done hundreds of times.
I would like to stress that what makes Rory so special is that he loves giving and sharing more than anything else and the only thing he expects in return is the feeling of making somebody happy. That's why i find him fantastic and i will never forget my stay in his place.
Thank you very much my friend!
From Paul Stolen Winneconne, United States Dec 20, 2008 Positive Had the greatest experience staying on Rory's couch. Hans and I visited last week and we can't speak enough kindness about Rory. He'll go out of this way to make sure you get the most of your experience in Ireland and with couchsurfing. Never pass up the opportunity to get to know Rory!
From Timothy McKeon Brooklyn, United States Dec 16, 2008 Positive though my time with rory was short, i had a great time with him on my last night in dublin. this guy is incredibly generous, sincere, and interesting (though i didn't have the time to pick his brain nearly as much as i'd like to). he is THE spirit of couchsurfing personified. tá an-mheas agam ort, a ruaraidh! 'til next time...
From Hans Hinke Stanley, United States Dec 15, 2008 Positive (In my best Irish accent)
If you should ever have the chance of surfing Rory's couch, count your blessings as it's an honor and a privilege. He'll go out of his way to make your stay on his island the best it can be, I'm cocksure of it.
From Michele Anoardi Brussels, Belgium Dec 8, 2008 Positive Well, this guy simply is the couchsurfing spirit incarnate. He just needs some reindeers and a red dress and can work out also sdome other december spirits:) He hosted me dte it wasn't a best moment ad he was kind and helpful all the time. It was one of ma best experience in CS yet. HAve fun!

From Ben Blevins Aberystwyth, United Kingdom Nov 25, 2008 Positive Rory is the Patron Saint of CSers. His doors are always open for those of us in need, and his generosity knows no bounds. It was truly a pleasure to talk, and to get to know him a bit. Thanks for everything Rory!
From Thibaud Naegele Strasbourg, France Nov 15, 2008 Positive Rory hosted me and one friend two nights at his place in Dublin. He's very friendly and makes jokes all the time, you never know if he tells the truth or it's one of this joke. He makes great sausages at breakfast with little broad, great way to start a good day. Thanks a lot for your host, see you!
From Fred LEBLOND Massy, France Nov 13, 2008 Positive If I must vote for the better host, I vote Rory !! He has hosted a friend and me in Dublin, like kings !! This Irish man is really friendky and open-minded. He really helped me to speak better english, because he is so patient !! Thank you very much for your host in Dublin !! Ireland is so beautiful !! I will come back soon !!
From Ewa Styczynska Bialogard, Poland Nov 12, 2008 Positive Anyone who gets to couchsurf at Rory's is a very lucky surfer indeed. I stayed at his place only a few days but truly felt like home from the very beginning.
He is unbelievably friendly, funny (love his sense of humour)and wise. Time flies when you're around this big-hearted guy and it's a lovely time.
He is the Gem of Ireland:)
From Richard Roestorf Pretoria, South Africa Nov 9, 2008 Positive During my time in Dublin Rory was a great source of encouragement! He was caring, generous, funny and nothing was ever too much to ask.
Thank you Rory - words are not enough to express my gratitude; and again, so sorry about my emosional outbreaks!
Hope to see you again soon - either in Dublin or in South Africa!

I have met amazing people all over the world; here is one of the best on my doorstep.
People, this man IS what Irish hospitality is about. Homage where it is due, please. Respect!
I still owe ya that pint, btw! *smile*
From Robert Sevcik Pilsen, Czech Republic Nov 4, 2008 Positive To me Rory feels like the father of Dublin CS community. Being a friend #653 speaks for itself :o) He seems to be a committed ambassador, caring and contributing. I haven't spent much time with him, but have nothing to complain about at all. We'll see what comes next :o)
From Danae Hanf Saint Paul, United States Nov 4, 2008 Positive I first met Rory in Dublin at Elegance, the CS'ing halloween party! It was so great, I had a wonderful night and a lot of fun meeting other couch surfers from Dublin and abroad! Thanks so much!
From Casto Martinez La Carolina, Spain Nov 4, 2008 Positive He was my first Host. He made me feel like I was in my own home. He encouraged me to learn english more seriously. From Jordan Reynolds Lebec, United States Oct 27, 2008 Positive Rory was my first host and was my first couchsurfing experience. I cant imagine a better person to have done this with! He was incredibly caring, went to the extremes to make sure me and anyone else on his couch were well taken care and that we had a place to stay. He knew all the places to go in Dublin and had lots of good advice on travel plans. And hes hilarious!
From Lilia Villa San Diego, United States Oct 18, 2008 Positive Rory embodies the CS spirit better than anyone I've ever met. It makes me so happy to have gotten the opportunity to meet him and technically (haha) host him during his adventure to California. We hope you liked the bonfire buddy!!!
Rory is such a genuine and kind fellow, incredibly humble, and also has the most wicked sense of humor!! He is welcomed here anytime of course! I wouldn't hesitate hosting/surfing with him for a second. Thank you for making this world a better place mate!
From Ozell Xiante San Diego, United States Oct 8, 2008 Positive Rory couchsurfed with us for a few days and was an excellent guest. He's an all-around genuine guy, absolutely wonderful to talk to and has quite an interesting background. Very well traveled with lots of advice, information, and stories to tell. We had a great time going out for beers when he stayed with us and again more recently on another of his visits to SD. Definitely someone I plan to keep in touch with and visit in his hometown someday.
From Tom Hegarty San Diego, United States Oct 5, 2008 Positive I got to meet up with Rory during his stay in san diego. He is a very open person with a touch of that irish dry humor that we lack so much over here.
It's inspiring to see someone put that amount of energy into developing CS. See you in dublin sometime next year!
From ARTLITE Warsaw, Poland Oct 5, 2008 Positive Happy to finally have met Rory in San Diego. It was like meeting an old friend from the past rather than a new friend =) I mean I did hear lots of good about Rory from the 10 mutual friends we had on CS and he only proved to be worth it! One of these days hopefully we'll get more chances to hang out and... couchsurf a lil bit, haha. Outstanding job for 2 years on cS, Rory. Keep up the good work!
From Jessica Friis San Diego, United States Oct 4, 2008 Positive We met briefly at a San Diego CS event. Lovely lovely man. I hope I can get to Dublin some day and couch surf with him.

I finaly met him while in Dublin and immediately felt we'd always known.
Overwhelmingly GENEROUS, unbeatably WELCOMING and incredibly FRIENDLY, this guy is one of those people you've gotta meet at least once in your life time!!!
He invited me to his house, offerred me to eat, got me free museum tickets, and sharred with me everything he had...he was simply AMAZING!!!
If you're ever in Dublin in search of the real irish experience, don't trust your "turisty" (not turistic!) guide book: Rory is the unmissable one!!!
THANK YOU a milion times!!!
Ciao amico and see you soon again...next time without mushrooms!!!
From Ruben Alba Aguilera Brussels, Belgium Sep 23, 2008 Positive Rory truly deserves the title of Global Ambassador! He is a terrific man, always willing to help: he feeds his CSers, takes care of them, drives them to the airport, organises great meetings in really cool Irish pubs, buys bus tickets for them, anything you need literally! and his sharp sense of humour makes him a hilarious person, you will love spending time with him! he is really an ultimate CS experience so get in touch with him if you pass by Dublin. THANK YOU SO MUCH and SEE YOU SOON. Your friend Ruben
From MIHIKU Strasbourg, France Sep 20, 2008 Positive Rory is Incredible! he host me 1 night near Lagos, Portugal and meeting him was really interesting, he's like a brother, who care about you. He try all the time to do his best even when he was trying to get me angry with his terrible Irish humour, haha.
See you next time for the Steack meeting in Dublin ;)
From Glentilsoup Auckland, New Zealand Sep 15, 2008 Positive I must be the only person,in Dublin or Ireland or nearly the world who actually hasnt met Rory!!We have been trading couch surfers and passing on info and chatting for over a year, and been close to surfing each others couches several times!THAT DAY WILL COME!!
From Eric Hartzheim San Luis Obispo, United States Sep 13, 2008 Positive You have no idea. I only spent 3 days with Rory, but he is easily the most genuine guy I have ever met. My two buddies and I started out Europe trip in Dublin...it was a good choice because Rory made it start off on the perfect note. Thanks so much for everything brother. You know what to do next time you are in California!
From SNOWFIGHTER Trostau, Germany Sep 13, 2008 Positive Actually I planned to stay for only 2 nights but due to problems with my next host Rory welcomed me to stay one more night. When I was arriving at his place there were already some friends of Rory at his place which gave my stay a very international atmosphere. I was very pleased by the warm welcome of Rory (his food prayer and his many jokes) which made my stay in Dublin an unforgetable. It was a great start for my ongoing travel and I admire Rory for giving soo many couchsurfers a home for the night. Unfortunately I forgot my glasses at Rory's but he is now doing his best to get them back to me.
Thank you for that and for everything!
I had a great stay at your place!
From Aureliano Garozzo Catania, Italy Sep 11, 2008 Positive I'm still waiting to discover where the borders of his heart are. Thanks brother.
From Elisavet Hatzinota Veria, Greece Sep 10, 2008 Positive Rory is a great guy living in a great apartment. himself and his house really are the perfect example for the CS spirit! he is hospitable, gentle, helpful and generous. always smiling, always in for a crazy night even after hours of work. i wish i'll be a host as good as he is sometime in the future. as for his place... it's better than a tourist office. you can meet really great surfers, share the room, your heart and your days with them. and they all love him cause he is a catch!!!
thank you for everything Rory, i hope i'll have the opportunity to pay your hospitality back here in Hellas!!!
From Carlos Rojas Cork, Ireland (Republic of) Sep 6, 2008 Positive I met him because he and my flatmate are good friends, and we hosted him one night.
Unfortunately I didn't spent much time with him but, hopefully I will see him again, here in Cork or maybe in Dublin.
Very funny guy, absolutely generous.
I'm really looking forwar to see you again Rory.
Take care yourself.
From BARBARAOG Marino, Ireland (Republic of) Sep 6, 2008 Positive Rory has been a great friend to me in couchsurfing, offereing advice and friendship. I look forward to meeting up with Rory around town.

From Christian Schwarz Passau, Germany Sep 3, 2008 Positive Rory is a really nice guy and as one might presume really engaged with the couchsurfing project. If you got any question about Dublin and I mean any, ask this so very hospitable man.
Thanks for the couch Rory, see you another time in Ireland.

From lük Trogen, Switzerland Sep 1, 2008 Positive Rory is a wonderfull person! it was really a nice stay in dublin with all the other guys. Its nice to be so near the centre. btw: thanks for all!
From -MARTINE- Brugge, Belgium Aug 31, 2008 Positive Finally! Yes! We met! After 2 years! Rory is a star... hosted me while he just got back from traveling, sharing a lovely meal with other surfers, singing till midnight... I couldn't ask for more. Or then yes, I could: shall we soon meet again, wherever on this earth, and ofcourse my place in Bruges will be home for you, my friend!
From Henrique Gerimias Curitiba, Brazil Aug 30, 2008 Positive Rory is a helpful and friendly guy! We met each other a couple of hours ago at Dublin's Community and than we went to a pub for some drinks. He helped me to understand more the CS Community!
Thanks Rory!
From Fernanda Cardoso Alfragide, Portugal Aug 28, 2008 Positive Rory is a friendly, talkative, honest and giving person. Most of all he loves and believe in human kind. He said: "The purpose of my travels are the people, not the places". I don't forget i owe you 2 pints, will be a pleasure.Take care!
From Neimar Alves Guerra Lisbon, Portugal Aug 27, 2008 Positive The first thing you notice when you meet Rory is that he has a big heart, it's easy to recognize his good nature.
I had the opportunity to meet this guy in Lisbon for a dinner and it was amazing to know him and spend some hours in good company.
Hope I can go to Dublin one day to meet him again.
From Gilles P. Marseille, France Aug 25, 2008 Positive Rory is a great person. I am happy that i met him and share some moments with him. I liked his humor and his english lessons. Ask him about the "touristy" places to visit :-)
From Jérémie Abric Paris, France Aug 24, 2008 Positive Rory nicely hosted my (with 4 other CS !) for a last minute request in the very popular city of Dublin.
Unfortunately I didn't have time to speak very long with him but Rory really makes you feel at home in his place, with good advices and nice mood.
From Loic COUBRET Budapest, Hungary Aug 23, 2008 Positive Rory is my best friend in CS. He helped me a lot to make my trip in Ireland really unique! I enjoyed to speak with him because he consider every CS as a unique person and I hope he enjoyed the French cook and humour! Rory I hope you will meet me in Budapest you are welcome. Thanks a lot again.
From Antonio Ruocco Naples, Italy Aug 22, 2008 Positive I have never met a person like Rory; he is kind and very generous, a fantastic man with a great sense of humor. His kindness shone in every moment when I was in Dublin with my friends... I want that Rory knows that he has a close friend in Naples, thanks brother.
From Corey Marino Baton Rouge, United States Aug 20, 2008 Positive Rory was amazing. That said, he was also my BEST and WORST host thus far... But then again he was my first!! haha
Do not hesitate to surf with Rory. Make sure you have a complete profile and you should do well with my friend Rory. He will help you as much as time allows him to. Thanks again my friend.
From Andrea D'Ippolito Guidonia Montecelio, Italy Aug 20, 2008 Positive I'm just one more in the list of people hosted by Rory "The Legend"..but I wanted to contribute leaving a line to say he's been really kind and great host as no one could be better..I really appreciated the guinness, the music, the stew..and sharing the evening with a lot of friends ;)
thank u man!
From Javier Garcia Marcos Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Aug 19, 2008 Positive This guy makes the most impressive CS meetings in Ireland. I've already been in a pair of CS meetings organized by him and both of them turned to be great! For sure I'll be at the next one!
From Michelle_Lux Luxembourg, Luxembourg Aug 19, 2008 Positive Well... i just arrived back from Dublin and since "extremely positive" is not an option anymore,... what can I say? I guess i am still under the influence. This was some awesome trip - special thanks to Rory for making us feel so at home. I had the best time there, we had some great dinners, i learnt to curse in Irish and i really dig his sense of humour. I now got quite a precise idea about the way i want to host in the future even though i doubt i will have the energy to do as much for my guests as he does... (-;
Thanks for making my first trip to Dublin so unforgettable and for everything you've done for us.
You are very welcome in our house whenever you want. Take care :-D
From Robin Ward San Francisco, United States Aug 19, 2008 Positive Bram and I stayed at Rory's with several other couchsurfers, which was unlike any traveling experience I've had. It was great staying with people from about 5 different parts of the world, but it was Rory that made the experience all the more interesting. He cooked us all a meal and literally made us go out and see a really unforgettable Irish jam session down the street. Anyone who is lucky enough to meet Rory will find their traveling experiences to be much more memorable.
From Alan Wilkes Madrid, Spain Aug 19, 2008 Positive Rory is a really, really, good host. I had sooo much fun staying at his place. we had some great dinners, sharedd vulgar jokes, and well had a great CS time. HE is a very active host and staying at his place was a uniquie expereince. In all my years surfing I've never had a n expereince qquite like the one I had at his place. I met so many cool people through Roruy. I still don't know how he does what he does but I am glad that he does it.(;
Thankls so much for everything brother. i'll come visit again...I promise!
From Pedro Masini Sao Paulo, Brazil Aug 19, 2008 Positive The CS Meeting in Dublin was great, I'll definitely go to the next ones !!
Well done Rory !!!
From 123j Cluj-Napoca, Romania Aug 17, 2008 Positive Rory is a very good person with a great personality and a huge sense of humor. He gave me the chance to do more for the CS family over here and it was a great way to get to know him a little bit better. Genuine. Sociable. Funny. Always ready to help-->That's Rory. Gotta' love him!
From Gavin Bedford London, United Kingdom Aug 16, 2008 Positive Well, what can you say which hasn't already been said!!?!? Absolute Couchsurfing LEGEND!! Just an expert at making sure people have a great time whilst staying in Dublin! Hospitality personified! Thanks so much Rory!
From Arashiellu Florence, Italy Aug 15, 2008 Positive Rory is a very special person. Someone who you should really want to spend some time with and really know.
Extremely intelligent and witty, he will be always willing to give you tips on what to do or where to go in Ireland (Republic of :P ) being him an expert of his country and region.
He is totally the ULTIMATE pub mate, so chatting with him and telling jokes is one of his art in which he excels particularly.
Deep and sensitive person, he will also help you out with a genuine and loyal's friend tip, should you ever need one.
Amazing host. If he can he will cook for you typical irish tasty delicious food. He lives in a beutiful mansion very close to the center, in one of the coolest areas of Dublin!
he will make sure you have everything and will help you out in
ANY
POSSIBLE
WAY
THAT
HE
CAN
if you need it.
Gotta meet this cool irish fella'...
From Christophe GOMEZ Toulouse, France Aug 15, 2008 Positive Rory is a great person. A quick glance at his profile and you will know he has a great personality, he is helpful, he is generous... To sum up, everything good you can say to someone.
Rory, you made me feel I was not just one among the others. Thank you, thank you again.
I'm waiting for you in Toulouse.
From Ayden Graham Santa Cruz, United States Aug 14, 2008 Positive Rory is an incredible guy. He welcomes you into his home as if you are family.
I'm running out of internet time, but I'll come back and write more!
From Tim Mayall Brisbane, Australia Aug 14, 2008 Positive Rory was the first person I ever couchsurfed with and I could not have asked for a better host. Other people were staying with him at the same time but he took time out to talk to all of us and make sure we were all well fed and drunk. He even got up in the middle of the night when we came home from a club to make sure we all had adequate bed linen. He is so passionate for the CS project and everyone can see it after spending even the smallest amount of time with him. I am just worried that my other hosts wont seem as good in comparison.
From Lionel Germain Metz, France Aug 14, 2008 Positive I was intimidated by Rory even before contacting him! Who has ever seen such a profile on CS? But he answered my request straight away! Rory is really busy Couchsurfing, and his place is very nice permanent CS gathering! There you meet loads of people at once! I was also very impressed by Rory's no limit sence of hospitality and generosity! He is very kind and treat you as a Friend. Doing so, he started quickly to pull my leg. This was quite fun as it took me a little while to realise that he's been joking all the way! Thanks Rory, it was a pleasure to meet you! And as you said, there will be another time!
From Bram Draper Castro Valley, United States Aug 12, 2008 Positive Can't say much that hasn't been said. We just stayed one night at Rory's, after a bit of e-mail and phone tag. Despite hosting other couchsurfers that night, he made sure (insisted actually) we all had adequate bedding and full bellies. I don't feel like I really got to know Rory, but I do know that I feel lucky to have experienced his generosity and seemingly boundless love of company. He was very giving of his time for his surfers in order to help people see the most of the city. All in all, a very "CS" experience, but on an epic scale. Like I said though, didn't get too much time to talk and learn about Rory himself, but he doesn't need talk himself up, it's propaganda by deed, and this is a man of many good deeds.
From Bazz O Reilly Maynooth, Ireland (Republic of) Aug 10, 2008 Positive There is almost no need to leave a reference for Rory due to the sheer amount of positive references he will recieve every single day. however, being a local boy I think it should be said that with him you will get the true Irish experience... hospitable, friendly, quick witted and just downright fun. Met him a few times after I joined and he's helped become totally comfortable with CS in general. Great guy
From Ciarán Nestor Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Aug 10, 2008 Positive The guy's a hero. Anything he doesn't know about couchsurfing isn't worth knowing.
He knows Dublin really well too!
Rory, cheers!
From Stéphanie St-Jean Aubre Montreal, Canada Aug 6, 2008 Positive Rory is probably the most generous person youll ever meet. He is always there to help the people surrounding him. When I met him, I got the impression that he was the heart of the couchsurfing community in Dublin. Heart! (cheasy, but true...)
From John Caulfield Derry, United Kingdom Aug 5, 2008 Positive Rory is quality! Very complimentary and keen, interested in CS, travelling, sharing ideas and experiences. Hope to meet you again Rory, get to know you better, develop the Ireland CS team and ultimately make the world a better place for genuine people and our fellow travellers! Peace.
From Van TRUONG Lyon, France Aug 4, 2008 Positive I met Rory when he came to visit Lyon (France). This encounter is what Couchsurfing can do AT ITS BEST !!!
Sometime in life, it happens things you can't really explain. My encounter with Rory has been like a spiritual connection. We didn't know each other and at the first sight i felt like if i knew him since forever.
After having a meeting in an irish pub, we met the other day for a lunch (in a franch restaurant in my nighborhood) then i introduced him to some of my friends (not CS). All the moments spent with Rory enriched me spiritually. This guy really spread love around him.
Now i know i have a brother somewhere in Dublin and i'm looking forward to see him again very soon.
From MCMURDO Hamburg, Germany Aug 1, 2008 Positive Usually I NEVER leave a reference for a surfer I havnt met personally, but this time I made an exception as you can see:-)
Rory hosted me for two nights in Dublin though he was traveling at the same time!!! Mate, thanks a lot!! I met awsome couchsurfers in your flat and in your city! And I have to come back, thats for sure!!
All the best and cheers again, Karl
From SUNNY+BELGIUM Madrid, Spain Aug 1, 2008 Positive One more reference to write - aaahh this one is difficult for me, as everything is said about Rory and his gentleness and kindness and greatness towards Couch Surfing and towards humanity.
All what i want to add is a BIG THANKYOU to Rory for his great motivation towards CS and towards life as it comes.
Your co-operative nature and open-mindedness and friendly behaviour made the trip to Dublin inoubliable and hence :) i'm gonna come back again :)
From Jesse Fenton Boston, United States Jul 29, 2008 Positive I was honored to finally meet at Eli's. Even though we talked for an hour it was great I got the chance. It was easy to realize how genuine and nice of a guy he is!!!
From Cathy Bigou Marseille, France Jul 28, 2008 Positive Positive is not enough, I'll say inforgetable!!! I'm sure you're THE HOST, there is no other like you!!! After all these references on your profile, it's very hard to find something to say. Surfers have to experience with you, to understand what it is. What you're doing for CS is really incredible!!! I 'm in admiration. I think you're one of the most beautiful heart I've ever met. Thank you so much for all ( you know what I mean), and I fell like I owe you something!!! So, our place is waiting for you!
From Pernille og Torben Viby Willadsen Aarhus, Denmark Jul 25, 2008 Positive We met Rory for dinner one evening and enjoyed very much to talk about couchsurfing and life in Dublin. It was a good evening. Rory is a very friendly and interesting person.
We are grateful that you found the time to meet us.
From Lieke, Peter and kids Dendermonde, Belgium Jul 24, 2008 Positive Okay, where to start? Rory is the kind of guy we love! He is very open, his hospitality is enormous and he is so positive about life and travelling. It is a pleasure to have him around.
We talked about CS whole evening. Thanks for everything and hope to host you soon in Belgium.
Big hug from Lieke, Peter and Enea
From Jordan Badger New York, United States Jul 23, 2008 Positive Rory is an exemplary human being; there is a lot to learn from this man. As you will read in the countless other positive references about him, he is likely the kindest man on the planet. But he is much more than that as well: having locked him out of his own home accidently, I can say from experience how incredibly patient and understanding he is also.
Can't wait to (attempt to) return the favor, Rory, though comparable hospitality would be difficult to achieve.
From Nicola Spera Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Jul 23, 2008 Positive Can't I tick extremely positive? What the..?
Anyway, Rory is simply great and probably one of the KINDEST persons I've ever met. He's a friend to me now, not just a great hoster.
I'll always be grateful to him and I'd recommend him to anybody who would like to visit Dublin and feel like home at the same time.
From Esben Rahr Gotfredsen Aarhus, Denmark Jul 23, 2008 Positive Rory is a very considerate host, that really takes you in if he likes you. And just making good fun.
From Evija Smith London, United Kingdom Jul 21, 2008 Positive I heard about Rory a lot and when i met him on my first CS meeting i was very glad.He is generous, intellegent and good fun!Care and love people wich is one of important thing in our lifes...
From Luke Edward Smith London, United Kingdom Jul 21, 2008 Positive Rory is one of the kindest, most generous people I have had the privledge of meeting, he has quite the reputation for being an outstanding host but to realise the full extent of this you really must meet him in person. Thank you for reminding me that there are still people in this world who put the welfare of others before themselves. I hope the next time I pass through Dublin I'll have more time to spend and I hope to return the favour at some point in the near future. Highly recommended!
From Carl Swensen Cruz Bay, US Virgin Islands Jul 20, 2008 Positive Rory was our 1st CS experience, yet most likely the best we will ever have. He is an incredibly kind individual and went well above and beyond what anybody could expect from a host. He made our experience in Dublin remarkable; his company a highlight of our entire holiday. We left having a true friend and not merely a new aquaintance. If you ever get the opportunity to meet with Rory it is definitely not a moment to pass up. Thank you Rory for everything... the memories, the friendship and laughs. You are truly an amazing guy.
From Taylor Sepulveda Newport Beach, United States Jul 20, 2008 Positive WOW is all i can say.. My only bad experience with rory was only having one night to stay with him. He is one of the best couchsurfers i know we instantly were able to talk like we had known eachother forever. It was less like meeting someone new rather it was like staying at a best mates house. He was so giving with his time and his place i am going to make it a goal to visit him again and next time it will be more nights than just one. THank you so much rory you really made my whole trip i can wait to see you in the future
your friend
taylor
From Ondra Slowik Prague, Czech Republic Jul 19, 2008 Positive Thank you Rory for offering me shelter on the last night in Ireland. If there is such a thing as pathological hospitality, you are its impersonation and that is great
From Pj O'Shea Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Jul 19, 2008 Positive I met Rory on a somewhat beautiful day in July for a quick drink and friendly conversation at the coffee sessions in Starbucks on Harcourt Street...
After a brief showcase of art, a coffee and numerous unfailed attempts to capture a good photo together we set out taxi bound for a quick pint in one of the many busy bars in the TempleBar area..
Rory is wonderful company and omits a certain ounce of genuine attentive warmth and playful mischievousness that eases one into a very open exchange of conversation and appraisal that leaves you feeling all gooey and wonderful inside
I believe Rory to be an ideal CS member and genuine motivator of charity, well being, and positive vibes.... I had a wonderful time with him and it makes me happy to know that there are people of his design out there that can help weave a better world
Rory is a fine ambassador for the CS website and I for one salute him in all that he has achieved and set out to do... well done sir, good game!

From Casey Fenton San Francisco, United States Jul 17, 2008 Positive We'd talked online many times over the last couple years. Staying with Rory was like staying with an old friend! We were immediately chatting like two people who'd known each other for a very long time. Maybe that's because we share the same Irish heritage? Or, maybe the same Irish sense of humor? Thanks Rory for great conversations and introducing me to another side of Dublin and your crew. Cheers to you my good friend!

Low and behold I actually made it to Dublin and got to meet him in person! He's a great guy super hospitable and knows tons and tons about things to do in Ireland and helped me plan my short 1 week visit. Thanks again!
From Alain Sato Derby, United Kingdom Jul 12, 2008 Positive Rory is WOW! Amazing guy... extremely generous, and a wonderful soul.. I surfed his couch for 3 nights, and I could experience 'what it is to surf the famous "Dublinguy's couch"'.
Rory epitises the spirit of couchsurfing...caring, generous, super friendly hospitality.
He goes on and beyond to make you feel comfortable... I shared the house with another 6 people (surfers).. it is the ULTIMATE COUCHSURFING experience... feels like having a party and exchanging experiences all the time!
Rory, a big thank you for your hospitality and time, and generosity... It is totally true what we hear from anyone that surfs your couch, you ARE a FANTASTIC PERSON!!!!
From David Sai-ngarm Auburn, United States Jul 12, 2008 Positive Rory is an extremely generous host, abuse that, and I'll break your kneecaps.

From Matt Bechtold Lawrence, United States Jul 10, 2008 Positive Rory! Thanks so much for a great day in Dublin. I wish I'd been able to surf your place longer. When (not if) I make it back to Dublin, I will certainly look you up again.
Anyone coming to Dublin should really try to spend a day with this gentleman. He knows his city well and showed those of us surfing his couches a great time.
Rory, you're welcome at my place anytime.

I hope to see u soon
From Caley McFarland Santee, United States Jun 24, 2008 Positive I'm glad Rory was my Dublin host. Rory's one of those rare people who can tell the difference between cool people and others, but still accepts everyone. I feel like I know lots of people better just for having known this one great guy, Rory. It isn't just about a comfortable place to stay in Dublin. It's about getting to know a rare soul and learning about yourself. Many thanks, Rory.
From Nicolò Wojewoda Delft, Netherlands Jun 23, 2008 Positive Rory is an excellent host: kind, polite and always making sure his guests enjoy the couchsurfing experience! I didn't have the chance to get to know him better, but I enjoyed a lot staying at his place also because there were other couchsurfers at that time. I highly recommend couchsurfing with him!

From George Hamilton Glasgow, United Kingdom Jun 19, 2008 Positive Well, there's not much I can say that the mountain of references this guy already has have missed out, but I will say this, Rory is almost as much of a tourist attraction as the Guinness storehouse (at least to CSers) and after being a guest in his house it's easy to see why. I only wish I had had the chance to spend more time with him, and I'll definitely try to look him up for a couple of pints next time I'm in Dublin!
From Debora Figueiro Porto Alegre, Brazil Jun 17, 2008 Positive I met Rory by the Dublin Organisation Group just before St. Patrick's week. I've never met anyone as involved with CS than him. He put it together a lot of the gatherings and events, help people that didn't have a host yet and he did all that while having fun. Rory is such a respectable, helpful, nice person. So host him or try to stay with him!
From SEATTLITE_JILL Seattle, United States Jun 16, 2008 Positive Rory is super chill and hung out to get to know me and the other couch surfers he was hosting. He is the type of guy that would get along with anybody. Rory has a great sense of humor and really makes you feel welcome. As you can see he is an active and very popular member. When Rory takes a break from hosting, to travel himself, he is more than welcome to stay with me, where ever in the world that may be:D
From Kevin McAfee Chicago, United States Jun 13, 2008 Positive Rory is one of the best guys I have met. Even though he was unable to host he still went out of his way to make sure my stay in Ireland and across the rest of Europe went well. CS is very lucky to have someone of this caliber on board. Thanks for being a great pal Rory!!
From Born In The Run Belgrade, Serbia Jun 12, 2008 Positive Well this a very hard task - writing a reference for Rory. That is like trying to buy a gift to Bill Gates . Bill Gates has everything , what the hell could you buy to him.
So the only thing I could do is copycat his previous references : " Rory is a great person "
From Jesse Scaccia Norfolk, United States Jun 9, 2008 Positive The King of Dublin Couches is a generous host but a more generous friend. He's someone I trusted from the moment I met him, and that trust has been returned in a very full-filling way. He's well worth emailing for a couch but also for a pint if you're in Dublin. Bad karma on you if he ever asks for your couch and you turn him down.
From Marie Goodwin Sydney, Australia Jun 2, 2008 Positive My first couch surfing experience was with Rory. He picked me up from the city and took me to his place where I had the opportunity to meet with other couchersurfers. He then took us all out to the pub for some Irish culture. He is a warm and generous person, I enjoyed the night that i spent at his home and look forward to seeing him again.
From Carla Lopes Evora, Portugal Jun 2, 2008 Positive Thank u so much for your reference, and i´m here to say that u are a very special guy, thats open the door of your house to strangers that later became friends, thank u so much for having me over, and hope that u come to see me in Portugal soon. Sincerely, Carla.
From Manuel Rodriguez Panama City, Panama May 28, 2008 Positive Yes I have a very good impresion of Rory...nice guy to talk with or drink a nice beer :). Really was always trying to help.........hope we can c us again if finally move there..
From Eli Barnes Boston, United States May 25, 2008 Positive Rory is probably the most gracious, giving, kindest, stubborn son of a bitch i know. Rory had such an impact on the people he met here in boston that we still reference his generosity to this day. you can feel a room warm as soon as he enters. on a more personal level, i felt very comfortable around Rory, we spoke like old friends. he connects people, and in that way i feel like we are kin. and i've never, never been bought breakfast by a guest that had stayed three months prior. he must be a sorcerer.
thanks for bettering the lives of those around you, my friend.
From Carlos Rodriguez Guadalajara, Mexico May 22, 2008 Positive The good Rory, always helpful, always friendly, always making jokes, what can I say a really good man, with a good heart.
He helped me and my friend since the first moment even thou we didn't meet we had a chat on skype and he gave me a lot of advise about Ireland, after our travel we met him at his place and from the first moment was really nice, he introduced to us other couch surfers, it was a really nice experience because all the people surfing there made a nice group. He took us to diferent places and gave us advise in Dublin. Thank you Rory, hope to meet you in future, and good luck to Ireland with Trapattoni guy.
From DJEY47 Bordeaux, France May 17, 2008 Positive What can I say that's nobody's already said... Rory, you're THE man => "Si, c'est vrai !" ;-)
We had so much fun for the only one evening we spend together that it was like we knew each other for a long time.
Thank U for everything, and I hope we'll see each other again, wherever it will be. Cheers Bro' !
From Cyril ARACHEQUESNE Bordeaux, France May 16, 2008 Positive Rory is... Amazing.
He definitely belongs to the kind of persons you can't forget.
Though, I just wish the timing would have been better: we only had enough time to have dinner and drank way too much pints of Guinness for my strengh :)
I'd really like to meet him abroad or in Dublin another time.
... A-mazing...
From Simone Serino Bari, Italy May 11, 2008 Positive Si si...there's nobody in the world who can say these 2 words with a better pronunciation!!!
Don't need to say how helpful he is with every single soul from CS.
Rory is simply a unique person.
See you again my friend.
From Natasha Jones Cambridge, United Kingdom May 11, 2008 Positive Rory is the essence of what Couchsurfing is all about. I feel very, very priveleged to have met him and spent the evening at his place. He is a very kind, warm hearted person and his couchsurfing meetup changed my trip for the better 100%. Thanks Rory!
From Brandon Meek Ashland, United States May 9, 2008 Positive Rory...what can I say about you that hasn't already been said. He is simply an amazing person with an even more amazing outlook on people and life. During the time I stayed with him I feel we became good friends and cant wait till I get the opportunity to meet him again weather it be back in Dublin or where ever I may be in America. You know you are always welcome at my place, and Im looking forward to showing what real KFC tastes like! Keep in touch and see you soon.
From Chad Skupien Istanbul, Turkey May 9, 2008 Positive I visited Dublin and found family, my new, big brother Rory. Anyone travelling through Dublin can bypass the museums, pubs and tourist sights as long as Rory is around. They pale in comparison to his hospitality.
Rory, I know you almost slapped me for saying it before, but I must say it again, thank you, brother!
From Iñaki Merino Albaina Delft, Netherlands May 7, 2008 Positive Lots to say about Rory, but just one sentence says it all:
"Rory is to CS like a pint of Guinness to Dublin; a meaningful part of something that makes it even better!"
He offered me help when I suddenly became 'couchless'. But beyond being a great host, in Rory you'll find a great person to share good moments in an incomparable city.
Thx for all Rory!
From Yann FOURNIAL Stuttgart, Germany May 7, 2008 Positive Rory,
I am deeply convinced you are the finder of a new concept in the CS environment: an oasis for surfers to breathe before beating the road again.
I travel usually by my own with great freedom and independance. Nevertheless, I had the good surprise to meet some people in 5 days at your appartment from all over Europe and America. I had a lot in commun, sharing ideas on cultural matters and other topics. I felt crazy relaxed like never before. Thanks to you I've discovered good or gold friends.
If I dare a reference to you, I wouldn't say that you have got the CS spirit, Rory, you simply are the CS spirit.
Thank you again for all your precious advices!
See you soon, My Friend. Yann.
From Benny O'Regan Kilkenny, Ireland (Republic of) May 3, 2008 Positive Look at other references and you will unsderstand what a Top bloke Rory is. A legend of CS in the making....
From Souhail Kahla Duesseldorf, Germany May 3, 2008 Positive Rory oh Rory, he is my first friend from Dublin Irland and it was and is gonna be a pleasure for me to host him. From Jesse Bilton Beauharnois, Canada May 1, 2008 Positive We had Guinnesses and I just knew he is a heck of a good guy !
From Kevin Batdorf Saint Petersburg, United States Apr 30, 2008 Positive I had a wonderful night this April at Rory's. He made my first couchsurfing experience a wonderful one. It's inspired me to continue couchsurfing and host at home when am finished travelling. He was understand of me being a novice and went beyond what I expected.
From Dan Song Carmichael, United States Apr 29, 2008 Positive It's been said countless times before but I'll say it again: Rory is simply one of the most thoughtful, selfless, knowledgeable, and interesting guys you'll ever meet. He contributes so much to the CS community in so many ways. If you're lucky enough to host, surf with, or meet this fellow, don't miss out... you just might find a friend for life.
Update: About time I updated this yet again.. after surfing his couch numerous times in Dublin, I was finally able to switch roles and play the host when Rory came to California last year. No surprise really, but I can say he's every bit as considerate as a guest as he is a host, and that's a pretty high benchmark right there. His thoughtfulness, generosity, and seemingly limitless capacity to reach out and help others never ceases to surprise and amaze me. A true inspiration and I'm happy to say a friend for life. We will meet again I'm sure...
From Fabio Barone Zofingen, Switzerland Apr 29, 2008 Positive Wow, Rory is the kind of person that makes you feel life is so good to you! He has been welcoming, sharing, exceedingly generous, funny, and I think his heart must fill half of his body...What a blessing to have been at his place - as my first couch surfing experience! I hope to meet you sometime soon, buddy! Thank you so much.
From Josh Cahill Berlin, Germany Apr 26, 2008 Positive Best couchsurf ever! He is a lovely person. He was all the time a brother for me. Dublin was great but you was a experience that i never forget. I have a little wish - to see you again!
Good Luck my friend!

We had see us as again. I try it to descripe with few words. To stay at rorys Place is amazing !!!
Thank you for all !
From WU LONG Zlin, Czech Republic Apr 25, 2008 Positive With Rory I learned that there is allways more that could be done for people around. I felt very welcome, very safe and very free at the same time. Rory is spontaneous guy, very honest and empathic, with a great sense of humour. He is constantly spreading love and good will, through thoughts, words and actions. What I feel is a bond of heart and vast gratefulness. I wish that all the obstacles are removed from his path so he can shine fully for the good of all beings.
From Tanja Koller Zurich, Switzerland Apr 23, 2008 Positive rory is a allways up for some fun and touring places he doesnt know. he is very generous and polite and truly loves his computer who is allways in his bag wherever he goes even visiting places.
From JULICEK Banska Bystrica, Slovakia Apr 23, 2008 Positive he is really really cool and interesting guy!!!
From Andrea Manzoni Seregno, Italy Apr 22, 2008 Positive it started with a shake of hand and it ended up with the certainty to have found not a couchsurfer but a marvellous person.
A sort of harmony rules that flat and at the question "where are u?" the answer "...at home" raises thoughtlessly.
Rory, as much cheeky as disrceet, made me feel comfortable and with his hilarity is not possible not to enjoy the time with him!!!
thanks
From TRAVELLA Wuppertal, Germany Apr 21, 2008 Positive Although I normally dislike this: I can only agree to Ciarans description concerning the overwhelming friendliness and authenticity. I was totally relaxed by the way you made a bee-line towards us. I'm also like that but I know how much it helps to get in contact... stay gold!
We will definitely meet again, wherever!!!
From Ciarán Dolan Chester, United Kingdom Apr 21, 2008 Positive This man puts a lot of work into organising CS gatherings in Dublin and from what i hear is an excellent host. Also a very friendly, interesting and intelligent guy to talk to. Respect
From Daniel Pike San Diego, United States Apr 17, 2008 Positive Obviously Rory doesn't need any more references for one to be able to tell what kind of guy he is. After spending 2 days with him, all I can say is he is one of the nicest, most sincere guys I know. On top of that, he's got a pretty swift sense of humor, so stay on your toes!
Even if you're not staying with him, make a point to meet and get to know this guy. You will be a better person for doing so, as he makes a positive impact on everyone he meets.
Rory, you're 1 in a million, pal! See you next time I'm in Dublin (hopefully sooner than later)
From David Piller Budapest, Hungary Apr 16, 2008 Positive Rory, our man! Although he just arrived back from his holiday, and was tired, he was really kind to host us for one night. He made us to promise to visit him again. We met also a lot of friendly other couch surfers in his flat, he really likes to take care about others. We wait for you in Hungary, hope to meet for a longer time!
From Pete Danger Cailloux Porto, Portugal Apr 14, 2008 Positive rory is a very special guy! he's a very happy dubliner. His couch is comfy and his apartment is, as you can tell by first view, well-lived, heh. it's in a fantastic/ideal part of town and in a great/clean apartment complex. rory is a very memorable guy who loves his city and will ensure that you do too!
From Luke Moilliet Calgary, Canada Apr 11, 2008 Positive Rory has a very vibrant sense of humour and deserves the Couchsurfing Comedy Award. He was very helpful during my stay and is a brilliant guy to visit with. Really enjoyed his sharing of history and experiences.
From Ian Blair Austin, United States Apr 10, 2008 Positive Rory, is wow, a face for the spirit of couchsurfing. He welcomed me to Dublin, and connected me with the CS community. Despite his hectic schedule, we found some time to sit down and chat about life, Ireland, travel. Such a huge heart, but everyone must say that!
From Patricio Rymer Montevideo, Uruguay Apr 8, 2008 Positive I cant add any new information. Rory already have lots of excellent comments and references, but anyway I would like to add mine cause this guy is the best in every aspect. To start he is really commited to the CS Project. He understands any traveller and do as much as he can for you.
If u stay with Rory I can assure u also he can recomend you the best places in Dublin and in Ireland. I left his house with the felling that I was taking away my backpack, lots of good memories and a friend for life.
From Wei Hu Kansas City, United States Apr 7, 2008 Positive Rory was my first experience surfing a couch. I have to say that he went far and beyond my expectations as a host. My two friends and I surfed his house for 3 nights. His generosity and welcoming attitude quickly made us feel at home and we were treated more like housemates than guests. Rory was invaluable in our trip to not only Dublin but also the rest of Ireland, he is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this country. I am extremely happy that I had the opportunity to get to know Rory and make a new friend. Definitely do not pass up a chance to meet this wonderful individual!
From David & Eugene Aguascalientes, Mexico Apr 6, 2008 Positive We spent a great great time in the beautiful island of Ireland!... Rory was an amazing host but unfortunately I don't know the words to describe how great he is.
See you soon my friend!!...
From Andrew and Pe Burden-Hilton Brisbane, Australia Apr 6, 2008 Positive Have you read the other x-hundred references??
Rory is a generous, accommodating, good-natured guy with a sharp sense of humour. He hosted us for what was supposed to be two nights, and when it was clear we would have to stay in Ireland longer (Indian visas...), recommended a short travel itinerary so that we could take in some of the West Coast. Then he hosted us again when we were back. He helped us a lot, and we do believe that we had the best pint of Guinness in his presence - coincidence? Cheers mate.
From Nathan Buhr Wichita, United States Apr 6, 2008 Positive Rory is |
