DUKE

Duke has a great attitude and is a generous and fun host. He tolerated my lame attempt at guitar hero which I'm sure was quite painful for a musician. I wish I had arrived a little earlier so I could have experienced more of Helsinki’s nightlife with Duke and his lovely friends. I hope to see you in Denmark where I will introduce you to the joys of organic produce and yoga, which I am sure you will appreciate!

It was soo great that you answered my request for a couch right away, it made me so much more at ease being able to have someone nice in Helsinki. It was a pleasure to meet you and your friends Gosé and the flying spaghetti monster to discuss during the night and drink a lot of tea. I answered Dukes "plea" to hang around Tallinn for couple of hours a day. I am glad I did! He's a charismatic guy with an open smile and a good sense of humor... very tolerable for couple of hours a day at least.. ehehe ;) Later I saw him perform on the Viking XPRS (if you ever have a chance, make him sing.. he's great!) and had an opportunity of a lifetime to float-surf... :) Not only was it my first time surfing in a cabin, but it was my very first surf on CS in general... It was a blast Duke! Thanks! :)

duke is a character. i'd even liken him to jack black, as a matter of fact. even though he was exhausted from performing on a cruise to tallinn, i had a great time talking with him about music, watching george carlin together, and pumping him for information about helsinki. thanks, man.

 

Duke is very nice person to meet, a kind of professional couchsurfer (if there could be a profession like this :) and great host. He surfed couch himself, putting kindly us to sleep in his own bed :)
I wait for our next meeting (in Tartu!) and continuing super-interesting conversation about linguistics and theology :)

Duke was a great host. He was not having a very good few days, but he still looked after us well, giving up his bed for us and everything. And even reccommending the worlds best noodles.. or so he says.. :o)

Extremely hospitable, hosted a fun wii night at his home. Great conversation and very fun to be around!

Although my time with Duke was much shorter than what i would have liked (due to the whole Bangkok sitch at the time), he was still an awesome host and kick ass dude all round : ) He's friendly, funny and seems like an all round top bloke. Would definately recommend surfing his and Heydi's crib if you're in Helsinki. Ps- did you enjoy the Vino?

Duke is a very positive and enrgetic guy. I wish we could spend more time together. Hope next time see you on Viking. We are planning to do this trip some day, so I will contact you when we decide.:)

Duke - he knows singing. And he does it passioanately - with his soul and heart. Rock Delusion is the best "CouchSurfial" band I know. "The best song in the world" is one of my definite favourites ;) Keep on rocking Duke!

 

Duke and Heydi were both awesome hosts, especially when they made fun of my health over Wii fitness. Duke is a straightforward, no-bs, have-fun, easygoing type of guy. It was an honor and pleasure to couchsurf, and cook for him and his roomate.

 

Duke might be a little messy and hectic person, a rowboat floating in the sea of time, but I just adore him! He has some principles, he has a great sense of humour (it's also his fault that I'm hooked in comedy series called How I met Your Mother) and though he won't open up his inmost easily he's a very easy-going person with a huge amount of warmth, charm and energy. You just can't dislike him. Oh, and he has a gorgeous voice too. Go check his gig!

Duke and his room mate Heydi hosted us for the final couple of days of our trip. What a great note to end things on - they were so generous and accomodating - Duke even gave up his bed for us! We were so impressed by the amount of travelling they had done and their committment to the CS project. We also got to sample some great Finnish food and even made it to the sauna! Thanks guys for everything and hopefully see you in Tas/ Melbourne one day soon! xxx

 

He and his roommate had a house warming party, they were greats hosts. They provide a great atmosphere, drinks, food and shisha :) I hope see them again, next time I visit Finland

Duke is a really chilled out and laidback guy. He's tons of fun, and we had interesting conversations. We both share the love for hitchhiking. I'm impressed by his lifestyle and the fact that he's a global ambassador. The funny thing is that Duke, having an American accent, uses some British words, which sounds "effing" hilarious at times :) Love your music and wish you luck career-wise!!!

Duke's is a very positive person, i remember him with lot's of energy towards lots of things, traveling and music are one of the main things we talk about.

Hopefully one day in the future we can meet in some part of the world to continue those conversations and play together some Marillion tunes, beacuse i know he loves them, specially "We all need some light", lol.

The good thing is, I am sure that we have both learnt from our encounter with one another and maybe, if we meet again, we will be able to frame that meeting more positively.

I could only spent one day with him in Bremen but that time was great. :) Duke is a really nice person with positive energy. It was fun to hear his experiences from Finland and finnish people. :P And I have to say that he can speak finnish without accent!!

I saw Duke's profile some months ago by coincidence and after reading his profile, blog and listening some of his music I found him really interesting and one kind of persons that I would like to host. What a surprise when I received the Couch Request =D, without doubt I accepted it and the experience was really nice. Duke is that kind of person who gives u a really positive impression since the first time that u meet him. Polite, funny, easy going and full of stories to tell. Summarizing, a person that u have to meet =P. I hope to see u again in Finland, Germany, Netherlands or some other place. I started this group named CS GigSwapping on CouchSurfing. Duke came to look me up in Utrecht after we made contact on the site, which I really apriciated and we immidiately jammed a local stage together - great fun! Duke joined the group and has been supporting the project as a global ambassador, which helped a lót to make it the succes it is becoming. We set up a try out tour together, with the other CS GigSwapping musicians, visiting three European city's in the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Austria. It paid off very, very well - we met so much good people and places. Duke is a great singer, a briljant performer and a splendid drummer too. That much ame out on the tour, where he doubled for Rupert, the Layers drummsplayer who unfortunately busted his back. Duke filled in and did an amazing job! Just one example on how versatile and supportive he can be... For real, this man!

All the best freaks are here! Met him the 1st time in Monnai in France at the HC summer camp in Juy 2005. Later again at Berlin Beach camp.We two found ech other cause I spotted out the shirt he was wearing. He is Marillion fan as well as me. Talked about music for hours, but not only. Real nice and friendly guy with a special spirit. Without him a camp would not be the same.
Met him again in September 2005 in Berlin on HC camp. And like in monnai, he rocked the camp with his acoustik guitar. Just call him Dukebox. Hope to see him again!

We met during the CS Gigswaping Party III, he is a awesome musician and singer. We had not much time to meet closer but from what I have experienced, I will be happy to do some gathering again and our couch is always available for him when he's around Czech Rep. again.

We met on the first gigswap gig in Utrecht and he then travelled with Tommy and me to Vienna. Duke is a very friendly and energetic person. And allthough he likes to joke and have fun he is also intelligent and supportive company. He is a great musician and entertainer and he surprised us all by falling in for The Layers drummer who couldn't play the Pardubice gig.

Duke does a great cover of a song by Jackson Five!

 

Duke stepped up for us when our drummer was injured, learned our set and helped us to put on a show in Pardubice. He went from stranger to family in a week. Once a Layer, always a Layer.

 

Im really glad that I met this mexican guy. Not only amazing person, but very fucking good guitar player and singer. His performance is energy and funny! Im looking forward to meet you again

I had really good time with Duke on GS Party.

Duke is the only person I know who can get up on stage, totally rock the house, and then discuss religion in the back corner of a party for 2 hours. And he seems to know everyone linked to couch surfing. Talented and super fun to be around.

 

Know Duke from many CS gatherings. He went and came back to the Netherlands many times. He is a really nice guy with a great voice and full of energy.

I like talking to people on the train, because they always have something interesting to teach each and every one of us And Duke was speaking in English on the train so I simply Had to ask him what the heck he was doing in Finland (the promised land of polar bears and penguins).. and he linked me into to Cs for the first time. Met Duke on meetups in Amsterdam. A straightforward and energetic guy, who plays the guitar and does a dozen of other things. Sounds like an American, looks Mexican, lives in Amsterdam and acts like a worldcitizen.

 

He's our temporary Duke of Amsterdam! Its always good to talk, joke and laugh with Duke! Its a shame you always leave sooo soon, but a good way to get the party started! Besides that he owns a very sweet ass guitar I hope in the not to distant future he'll play us some songs because we are very keen to hear him play! Tumbs up!

 

Duke seemed to know me before I knew him. I think he knows everybody in CS (or maybe everybody who is active). His openness and enthousiasm rubs off on everybody he meets.

 

It was a real honour to meet Duke, this guy is so enthousiastic, it's really contagious. Also strange to realise that I allready sung "Jesus he knows me" with him at Sinterklaas party in Rotterdam. Makes you realise how small, but also how great the CS-community has become. Hope to meet you again somewhere/sometime and have the chance to see you playing live!

Well, maybe it's worth mentioning that Duke never stops surprising me. Be it his ultra-smart mouth, or his joking nature. Or maybe how behind this facade of entertainment he's actually an intelligent and sweet, caring fella. Well, as long as you don't call him by his given name, that is.

Everybody loves Duke...(well except for Tommy) and that's not strange cause he is incredibly lovable, funny, fun, down to earth, and so easy to be(come) friends with (everyone knows that) but he is also sweet, caring, interested and easy to love (i know that) I am so happy to know him. Of course it is easy for me to say all this cause he is the most special couchsurfer for me. After a year of Duking... Saves que?...Te amo.

Duke is a very friendly guy and we both share about the same taste in music, thus have a lot to talk about.
After meeting him in a CS meeting, I happened to bump into him while he was playing guitar on the street. Really enjoyed singing along with those cute Dutch girls that surrounded him :)

What a great, generous, big hearted host. He went out of his way to pick me up at the bus station and to show me how to get to and around Isla Mujeres. Much appreciated.

 

Duke is both very enthusiastic and very casual about couchsurfing, you can tell it's a way of life for him. This also means he's an experienced guest and as such you don't need to tell him what to do or not do, makes for easy hosting. Good company, especially if you take him to a karaoke and give him a mike.

Duke is just one of the best guy around. He rocks (literally...)! Together we had CS meetings, cruises, parties, gigs, etc etc...

I met Duke since we were kids.
Unfortunatelly life made each of us take different paths and haven´t seen him since then. Thanks to this place we can be in touch again, at least virtually.

I remember how passionate he was for music since he was a kid, specially trying to imitate Phil Collins on the drums. I hope I can see the Duke playing live someday somewhere.

We were so lucky to have Duke on our Camp Laihia! It was one of the best moments this summer to just sing the best songs in the world =)outside in the dark, Duke playing his guitar and watching the fireworks! Great to meet a true CS active, we'll follow you =) Just sorry I had to leave to Pori but thanks for keeping my cats alive! See you soon!!

Duke has a way of making Finns talk :D He arranged a CS meeting in Turku where we met. The meeting kinda woke up the CS group of Turku. Then I met him again in the Camp Laihia meeting. Its interesting to talk with him or to listen him talk because he is intelligent and respects other people. And I appreciate his curiosity in Finland.

Duke and Nanouk were our first CS guests. We had a fantastic time together. They are very laid back and fun to be around...Really good company. I liked them from the first moment we met and hope to see them again soon! Besitos..espero verlos pronto!

It was a shame that we could host Duke and Nanouk for just one night, it would be great to host them more time. We all had many talks and he played spanish guitar for a while. He also helped us to find a place in Riga.

He is great person to have around - he will help you to set up the Christmas tree for Christmas eve, will think up the stories for stones collected outside to make Christmas tree stable and straight, is full of cool stories and comes back if leaves some stuff at your place :))) Apple pie of course for farewell evening when they stayed with Antonio at our place ;) Hope he left some more of his things here :D

 

From seeing his profile a lot has been said and is true. I must add that he did loose for a while his Ipod at my place. I must report that he also took in a full teaspoon of a brutal chili sauce that would have caused major harm to an average frenchman... He barely flinched, incredible. Well, he IS mexican indeed !
I also liked his social quickness. I miss him already. He gave me the curiosity to go hundreds of miles to attend a CS meeting... soon...

 

How can one not be extremely positive about duke :) He is a good guest, fine party animal and a good partner in conversations. He really breathes the spirit of CS like only very few people do. We lived together for 6 months in Rotterdam and I can honestly say it has been one of the best times of my life.

He's one of those rare stars which are not known to the world (yet) but make you awe when you meet them and know he's up to something revolutionizing, something spectacular.

 

Great guests. I was happy to host Duke and Tanja for several days. They left me yesterday and I miss them so much. I hope they will come again once probably to take Trans-Siberian Express and I will be lucky if they choose me to be their host and show them some interesting places in Moscow they didn't have time to visit last time.

Update July 25th: Duke doesn't do dishes... nor does he clean things after repeated requests to do so. He is a super host though...

I like that Duke sees a person through their words. That his ego is kept(mostly) in check and that he does dishes really well. I'm excited to be living next to this marvel of traveling spirit for the next two months.

 

I've known Duke from many online conversations about CS but we kept on missing each other in real life. But then we managed to make it a match when he was in town again to see a concert - again :-)
We both enjoy languages so one day started and ended with different conversations and lessons about that topic. Meeting with a friend of his after the concert we both (I and the friend) kept on humoring him with "ozzie tongue" his favorite english :-)
I really enjoyed his company and the many interesting conversations. He is a very easy to host and friendly guest and has a real deep passion for CS and in fact makes it to his lifestyle. With this he inspires people and I think that makes him an ideal spokes person for the CS community.

Now what was that - Duke is a complete party animal and only girls write references for him... LOL Duke is a man of many skills. He can even be very quiet, as I observed, when we were both staying at Zaubii's place. I like Duke, I think I could even host him. :))

He called me for an emergency couch and came by my place with his guitar. We had a great night of party with him playing very well on his guitar! He is a very freindly person and having him as a guest, really means to met an interesting person with a lot of couchsurfing experience! I hope we will meet again!

 

If there is a meeting i have not seem him being in-active in it wich is just great.
We met first at some Rotterdam meetings and later been hosted in Bonn. After that we had a roadtrip from Germany via Luxembourg and Belgium to the Netherlands where we imported fries from Belgium ate them in the netherlands and thrown the papers away in Germany just before we climbed the highest "mountain" of the netherlands.
I'm sure we will meet again. Its great to talk with you and the talks are all of a great value.

let's make this a little story:
when it came to say "good bye" after seeing each other for 2 days in the beautiful city of bonn, i said "thank you" instead of "good bye" it just came out of my mouth my accident but it was the only right thing to say. i'm not sure whether ne noticed that acutally, since i said good bye properly just 2 seconds after....anyway: he made me confident about being the only active native couchsurfer in bonn :)

Last weekend I met Duke on the CS meeting in Riga and indeed, he is a real Couchaholic. He is the best example how great the idea of Couchsurfing is. Together with other CS members we walked around in the the latvian capital and I can absolutely recommend to everybody to meet or host him.:-)

After I year of hearing "Duke this..." and "Duke that..." from Tiina, it is nice to finally actually meet him face to face. He breathes CS with a welcoming smile and simple, unassuming ways. We had little chance to talk, but it is good to see a genuine 'cheerleader' for CS. Got Couch Duke?

Duke is a great guy and a lot of fun to hang out with. He's always up for a great laugh and is very down to earth. He's flexible and willing to go with the flow. Oh yes, and quite a respectful musician if I do say so myself.

Mexican Fire. this slacky guy is THE CouchSurfing Entertainer himself! he was an amazing guest at my place! he spreads the CS vibez like not many others on the planet! and this jester animated the whole town on friday night, hehehe
our BBQ with all the other participants of this freaky CouchSurfing meeting was Incredible!

I've only know Duke a very short time, but his passion and believe in Couch Surfing is fantastic, and to add to that, he's a great bloke to share a beer and have a laugh with. Good luck on your global couch surfing quest!!

Met Duke at the London Calling. He is an amazingly great guy. He just laughed and joked the whole time and he loves the Aussie accent. What more is there to like!!!

 

I met Duke at a party at Walters place. He was there, and we had a great chat about The Netherlands, Mexico, and had a lot of cevesa :)

 

Finally met this mexicano (who reminds me a bit of pablo fransisco)! Had a nice conversation about the mexican stereotypes. Brought some good energy to the meeting as I was totally stuffed from biking. Had a good first impression. I'm sure we'll bump into each other again.

 

Duke is deffinatelly kind of person that you want to meet, because he has all necessary qualities that make him to be admired or respected by others.
Although we did not have chance to communicate for long,I enjoied talking to him about few topics considering CS and our travels (as he is the best person to talk about it).Duke also has good sence of humor,great organizational skills and knows how to make others to listen him with lot of interest.

We certainly do a lot of senseless things in life. I mean things like shooting kangaroos without eating them afterwards, thankfully kissing someone's feet, leaving extremely positive references on people's profiles... Honestly, is there any sense in writing a reference for a person who's already got some 152 others? Plus, who's actually choosing his/her next surfer or host by reading the refs? There might be loads of people saying stuff like "Duke's cool, one of the funniest persons I've ever met, so friendly...". But how can you be sure of that (remember he's an admin after all)? Right, you can't! So, it's completely senseless leaving this ref here... But what DOES make sense then? Meeting Duke maybe?? Well, all I can say is that my life doesn't make any deeper sense because I met Duke. Truth be told, it was a relatively senseless meeting. All the senseless conversation, the senseless things I've learned, the senseless hours I spent talking and listening... By the way, have I told you that I really like senseless things? There's almost nothing better in the world!

well as the sixth village people he rules, as a surfer he is astonishing, as a guitar player a damm good entertainer and i was glad the invasion allowed us to meet again.

Saw the amazing duke again for the queensdays and was super happy to get the chance to be around this amazing person who is certainly the duke of clowns when it comes to have a big laugh... a great admin of our project !!

Duke is a lot of fun and knows everything about couchsurfing. We had a great time couchsurfing in Zurich hosted by Sam. He is also a good singer/guitar player.

Meeting Duke was a surprise. He was happy to see me sporting a shirt that said "Duke" on it. A personal advertisement for him, plus a list of beers from around the world!
I was travelling with Valerie, and ended up chez Duke, Tiina, and Walter. I stuck around a bit longer than Valerie, and really enjoyed the time to get to know Duke a bit better. I love his sense of humor.. very much like mine.. and made me laugh in my mind. Also loved hearing him play the guitar and sing me to sleep (this last part never actually happened). See you next time mate.. probably Paris!

 

Duke is a great guy - we have met several times in europe and I enjoyed his talented entertainment - he is a great singer and guitar player. Always fun and never boring to hang out with Duke. Sure to meet up again in future :)

 

I have met Duke in Bonn CS meeting,very outgoing guy who greet people warmfully as he knew them a long time before,music is in his blood,Really enjoyed some songs that he sung in the parc.we were also hosted together by Heidi from Bonn.

 

My first CS experience was at Duke, Tiina and Walter's place and they made me discovering a complete new world of connected people. They really made me wanting to be involve in it. Viva CS!!!
Except of his big sense of humor, Duke plays such good melody on guitar that really make you feel good on earth. But another great thing that I have to thank him for, are those marvellous sweet chili doritoos (still in my dreams...). See you guy! And if you pass by brussels, let me know! It was great having Duke as guest for the Xmas and showing him around. Gave me a chance to appreciate things I had almost forgotten. Duke was the perfect guest and got along with everybody amazingly well - even with some of my relatives who normally refuse to speak English..

Hmm if you had to sum duke up in one word I'd have to go for 'funny'. He was hilarious half the time I spent with him. He has such an affinity for CS that you cant help but respect him. His humor is very dry so be prepared!

What can I say about Duke that hasn't already been said? He's a fun and friendly host if you're in Rotterdam; he's good entertainment if you happen to be around Leidseplein; he's good company if you feel like shivering on a doorstep in Amsterdam for awhile; he's crazy about languages, just like me. I'd like him even if his name was Duke Bald-Babycow...or maybe even more than I already do.

 

Duke as he mentioned is a couch-a-holic and he is extremely informative of his surroundings. Unfortunately we only got to chat for a few hours, but it was great talking about our travels and listening to Duke strum his guitar. Viva la Mexico!

 

I had tea with Duke when he got stuck in Heidelberg for a night. A very nice, friendly guy that I would be happy to couchsurf with one day.

Duke and his girlfriend Trey surfed our couch for a couple of nights when they were in Madrid. We had a great time with him, he is a great guy, with a fantastic sense of humour and very interesting point of views about many different subjects.

Duke has so much passıonate for CS and ıs utılısıng ıt to the maxımum to meet people ın Europe. He ıs full of energy and wıll strıke up a conversatıon wıth anyone anywhere. Dont set your clock by hım however as he ıs stıll runnıng on Mexıcan tıme :) but I thınk thıs ıs what makes the musıc sound so good. Hıtchıng ın the snow on NYE ıs a baptısm of fıre ınto the hıtchıng world I wıll never forget - thanks Duke... and who ever knew I had rytham. Catch you when you come to Aus.

 

Woohooo! After a failed attempt to meet up in Amsterdam, we finally met in Portugal... but first we had to overcome some difficulties in conciliating our agendas :)) It was getting complicated but we managed to spend some time in Aveiro. It was GREAT meeting Duke... he really embodies the CS spirit and has a great sense of humour, spreading good vibes around him. I hope we manage to meet up again soon! There's this song that has almost become the theme of Europe CS, or at least Dutch CS, or at least Amsterdam CS, or at least the CS that revolves around Duke and Tiina and all of their friends. It starts with a piano and breaks into a disco, there's a falsetto voice and then a "doo-doo-doo-doo-doo", and it's the most danceable song that loudly proclaims its aversion to dancing. There are too many good things to say about Duke - he's a cornerstone of CS and we're all lucky to have him - so I'll just say this. When Duke is playing his guitar at six in the morning and everyone is singing along and feels connected and the energy is really strong and beautiful, then at the moment, Duke makes me feel like not dancing. Which I swear is a good thing.

 

I had the chance to meet Duke many time... and we will meet him again and again for sure! He's just an amazing person and good musician too! Dedicated to CS. Thanks for everything... always wondeful time with you my friend! ;)

We met at a CS meeting in Jan 2007, in Stockholm. Does Duke need more positive references? I think they speak for themselves.. The guy is great! Very positive vibes during the CS party! Openminded and sociable with everyone present.

We went to guitar evening, and Duke made it a concert ! Have a chance to meet him - grab it ! Even if you have to wake up at night 3am, or in the middle of some celebration :)

 

Mr. Duke was one of several highlights of my Berlin (Grunau) weekend, and certainly one of the brightest. Just when the anxiety threatened to set in with being around several dozen incredibly diverse people from all over the world that somewhat understood my American English, he handed me a beer and welcomed me to the party... A spirit like no other, this human is a wealth of hard-earned wisdom.
Overall? A great guy, and a whole lot of fun.

Duke is one of those persons who represents CS by itself and just by how he lives and what he does everyday. A great great wandering soul in love with music and the world itself.

People have already said a lot huge lot about the Duke, and their praise is true.
As for the Admin and the party animal: Without him, I would have had a restful weekend - and cluelessly missed the amazing experience of co-hosting a CSmeeting. He really knows how to do the trick and get people motivated, then hooked.
As for the guest...Anybody mentioned his boots yet? Neither will I ;P Love you however, Duke. A funny couchsurfer who falls asleep on "Family Man" episodes and will not let a single waking hour pass without music. Sadly, the weather wasn't made for busking. Heard you say "next time" - don't forget! (There'll be a Marillion concert in Cologne in May 2007...) Helpful! Opening doors to ladies 'n' stuff... He even helped out moving some of MrUlf's parents' furniture through the city after the meeting was over. Thankful! He'd always sigh: "Don't be so German" if a thanks or praise was discussed rather than taken.
His enthusiasm is infective. Sure our paths will cross again.

Duke...as far as I know him up till now I would describe him as a great person with passion for the CS project. Advice: Duke gets sad when people tell him they like South American music and give the (French) Manu Chao as an example of that. So...better not do that! ;-)

First, there was the Linz BBQ, and Duke rocking the party with his guitar to top a tremendous 24 hours. (He has to be the rockstar who takes himself the less seriously on this planet) Then, more than 1 year later, the guy comes to Montreal and at the same time, I happen to be shooting a film on CouchSurfing. After filming the well-traveled Mexican intensively for 6 days, I had discovered an individual who embodies the CS spirit in an exceptional way. I truly admired his dedication to my project and I can't wait to hangout more, with no camera around this time...I hope he'll enjoy the film as much as the (in)famous poutine!

Duke was supposed to be my first guest...But I didn't happen. Then I was supposed to meet him in Amsterdam...Didn't happen. But, we were third time lucky and I finally got to meet this great guy!

 

It was nice to met Duke during his visit to Guatemala. The party at Juan Carlos was great and we have the chance to do a lot of questions about CS ;) Take care.

We had party night in Poland and after some time I hosted him in Riga... some months later he and Trey pup up in my place again, and know what?- I LOOOOVE it! :DD wooow, Duke is over the top! If you having fun together(only when he sleeping, he is calm), you doing it for 100%. :) Duke can find friends everywhere, and its not 'cause he playing guitar soo good ;) He is just always happy and love people around, so you can't stay indifferent. Duke is a very friendly, happy guy, very relaxed as well. It was a lot of fun having him and Trey over. We also met on a few other occasions. By the way, thanks for teaching me how yo play the Sims ;)

 

I was one of a large group of random couchsurfers that happened to invade Duke and Trey's home at the same time. It was fun to meet so many like minded people in one place and Duke and Trey were incredibly tolerant, welcoming and patient with everyone, especially considering the fact that it was a bit of a squeeze. I really admire them for opening up their home and showing kindness and hospitality to all of us. Thank you guys.

Duke is a great guy and an excellent musician that can cheer up everybody. We had great time with him in the first Austrian Couch Surfing meeting and having him at home was like having someone that we knew for very long. And now something completely different... I've been staying with him for a month now and I've seen him host people from around the world. He's always willing to take people out and spend time with them. I've had the best laughs with him and he's got this ability to always make people smile.
He can quote everything that has something to do with Simpsons or Monty Python and his knowledge of non important little things is just amazing. So if you're travelling and you have a chance of spending time with him, don't think twice, he's the funniest and the sweetest guy I know! Word of warning though: if you let him into your house, you never wanna let him go ;-)

The folk rock super star of HC camp Monnai 05. Duke is pretty cool. We met at HC camp in Monnai. He is a very good musician, a smart ass, and still very easy to get along with. We hung out a bit over the 3 and a half days I was in Monnai.I am glad that we met. The experience he is having in Europe is something I would do if I had the balls for it. He has been all over..is very well connected via CS and HC..I have a feeling he will never need to stop. Duke is a very good musician with an impressive vocal range. His renditon of Radioheads Fake plastic trees impressed me. Dukes attitude and his guitar were an intergal part of the great time every one in Monnai had...good stuff

He's the Man! Duke is a very nice Guest (seems like I'm not the only one to think and say that :-) He travels around with his guitar - make sure you book a (late) evening and check what he's up to!

Duke's the man in Cancun. I just got done couchsurfing for the first time and it was with Duke and Trey. They are good people. I spent most of the time on my own exploring and I must say it was fun. There's lots to do and not far from exciting places.

Duke is the legend of CS and so i joind his birthday party 2005 in Düsseldorf. He makes you happy all the time and you get addiced to met with him again. Unfortnetly he left so fast Europe, hope for his great come back and then listen to the "Duke Box" again and again!

 

Platinum Energy. Duke was a fabulous host. He borrowed a car to pick us up at the airport, and waited for us for 3 hours while we were delayed in the worlds longest customs line- even though he had never met us! He gave us a place to stay, showed us around Cancun, got us free beers and more. You couldn't ask for a better host. Plus he is a fantastic musician and a very sweet person. If you can offer him your couch while he is in Europe you shouldn't miss the chance.

Fantastic guy! I saw Duke only for one day and a night....but i wanna see him again definetely!!! He is a great dancer, and a singer too, you know, it was unbelievably great to be in club with him and it was so cute when he read in russian while walking in the street. Its so easy to be with him, he is full of life, so friendly and funny! If you get a chance, guys, meet Duke and you will understand what i mean :)

The Sing-Along Duke. Have you ever been sitting in your livingroom alone, wanting to sing a few classic rock songs but haven't had anyone to accompany you? I sure have!! Don't fret! Just invite Duke into your home and he'll do the job for you! I was belting out "Brown Eyed Girl" with his sweet guitar and vocal skills to back me up. It was a dream of dreams. If my apartment was any bigger, I'd have a concert and put Duke on the main stage! Invite this guy over for some singing action and you won't be dissapointed.

Super duper people..... Hey, I accidently stumbled over Duke and Trey at a Marillion gig and ended up helping them out with some travelling and the odd tequilla... he he. Thoroughly top lovely people, help them where you can!!

berlin hc camp review. hi duke!
this is the guy who played the djembe at the berlin hc camp session. it took some time to sign up and creating a more or less acceptable profile, but it proceeds. the hc site obviously has some difficulties by signing up new members, at least it takes up to a few weeks to get a full member there...
anyway, how are u doing? are u still travelling around in europe? how did u like berlin, the city, the camp, the people? I was very pleased to get in contact with so many interesting, far travelling and humorous people, so I will keep contact with hc, but also with cs. it´s a great chance and an enrichment for many young people!
I would be very pleased to keep contact with u. perhaps I may add u to my list of friends on cs.com? anyway, I have to figure some things out on this page, for I´m no internet-junkie ;-) and I´m a brand new member on this site...

La Musica in mi casa. THE CS Ambassador was in my place! Sadly just for a night, but now my house is yours too, dont forget it! Duke is the image of happiness, the spirit of traveller, the soul of the music, the warm weather of Cancun!

Is that what you call frost? this was my first experience as a host. Duke and Trey were great company even if they are marillion fans.

I had a personal concert in the living room when they ran through the songs they were going to busk that night.

Talented guy. I've talked with Duke online now for a few months. I've even heard him live on his progressive rock internet radio broadcast. Plus, as an entertainer in Cancun, I'm sure he knows all the cool cats. Meet up with this guy if you can!

UPDATE: Duke, Josh and I couchsurfed together across Europe for a few weeks in July of 2005. What an amazing adventure it was. I couldn't have picked better travel partners. Duke amazed, entertained, and reminded us of what life is all about. He truely embodies the CouchSurfing spirit. Thanks Duke for what you do. Keep rockin' it brotha! See you somewhere soon.

Another great surfer. Only met him briefly (unfortunately!) but seems like a real solid nice genuine guy...definately knows his surfing...and his girlfriend is a total gem too...definately take this guy/ couple in people; he'll/ they'll only make you smile.

Mi compa! Duke was the first CS'er I met. And probably one of the reasons I am so enthousiastic about it. It's true, there was too little time.. can't believe they were in the same city for months!! I enjoyed hosting Duke, it was like having an old friend over. Thanks for the guitar Duke, next time we meet I wil give you and Trey an oldfashioned mexican serenade! hehe.. I love you guys, miss you a lot..

 

So much impressions in such short time. A concert in 013 brougth them to my place. Interesting conversations about their concert, their traveling, couchsurfing, experiences, Canada (eh?), tea, and a lot more! So much impressions in such a short time. Really nice, friendly, easy-going, trustworthy people, Duke and Trey. The next morning I left them, sleeping like babies in my room ... hope to see ya one day, maybe Amsterdam? or Tilburg again? Or maybe ... Canada! Take care!

Finally.. Yep, it's true. We had a couple of 'almost meet ups', but when we finally met it was great. The big topic was indeed FZ, and he was so surprised that he met a girl that likes him. It was kinda cool to talk 'shop' with him. Air guitar? There is almost nothing better to do with yourself ;-)
I liked him a lot, his energy, his witty sense of humor, his conversation topics (TV Porn or Porn Porn??), he really made me laugh. Duke, come back soon for a full 'FZ Night', ok?
