Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
Couch Available: Maybe Preferred Gender: Any Max Surfers Per Night: 2
Shared Sleeping Surface: No Shared Room: DependsThere are 2 separate couches that can be opened and become a real and confortable bed. You will have a private room for the night (during the day it is the living room). In case I have other guests then I will first ask if it's ok for the both to share the room (but usually I take just one request per time). N.B.
Sorry for this, but this days are kind of busy time for me, so I will probably reply "no" to most of your requests, unless they're not very special, personalized and lucky!;)
PLEASE NOTE THIS (1)
As Milano is (surprisingly) pretty much requested as a CS destination, I try to host people who's close to my CS concept of hospitality (getting to know each other, spending a bit of time together, writing before and introducing ourselves, organizing CS events together). Please, please, please, take a bit of time to read through my profile and try to understand if you feel like I can be a good host for you... must admit I don't actually like so much last minute calls and "just need a place to crash" request. So, sorry but I won't accept last minute or copy&paste requests, write here instead: MILANO SOS COUCH
PLEASE NOTE THIS (2)
I opened a personal poll and you're invited to contribute with your opinion, when you send me a couch request: which one was the best 2008/2009 song?
I will then update with all the results my "Movies, Music, Books" column here on the right side of the profile!:)
_______________________
I live in the northern area of the city; it is a quiet and green area, easily reachable with the public transportation both from the city center and from the central station. I live alone, but I have often friends visiting me. I have 2 couches, both of them can become comfortable beds and are in a separate room than my bedroom. I don't have pets (but I love cats and hopefully I'll have one soon living with me) and I sometimes smoke (depends on the periods of my life), but I can do it on my balconies. And, if you don't mind about this, sometimes I'd burn incense. I have blankets (or sleeping bag, on winter time) and towels, in case you need them. You can access the Internet here, when I don't use it, as I have a quick connection and a flat rate. When I make the laundry, no problem, in case you need, to add some of your clothes, so that you can have them clean and washed.
And, last but not least, I have a bike so, when I don't use it, you're more than invited to ride around the city (altough it is a sort of adventure in Milano), as I support this way of travelling around (CS MILANO BIKE SHARING PROJECT)!
And now there is this new big thing (in my opinion) in Milano: BIKE-MI
As I support urban ciclying and I truly believe my city would be better with more bikes and less cars around, I'd strongly recommend to take my bike or to contact the CS MILANO BIKE SHARING PROJECT or to rent one (very cheap now with the bike sharing public program) when you're here, you'll have a better experience of Milano, trust me! (please take your time to read this that I wrote: The "Biking in Milano" CS MANIFESTO)
Here in this city you can actually find whatever you look for: parks, fun, art, culture, food, etc... I should mention that I am often busy at work during the week, and sometimes wake up very early in the morning to go to school, so you should also consider this... but then, you'll have fully days to visit the city!:) And I'd like very much to show my city to my guests and go around together with them, according to my daily timetable at work (but weekends are usually free!:). If you want to know more about Milano, you can also have a look here, where I also contributed: CS MILANO-WIKI
And I'd like to cook for you, best would be a cooking recipe's sharing, one night it's me, one night it's you cooking. I don't have problems with sleeping, excepts when I have a busy day at work after. Best then would be weekends, but it also depends on my mood!;)
I'd ask you to leave a sign and memory of your staying in my flat, as I inaugurate a CS's corner, just close to the couches, where you can stick on the wall a pic, a card, or whatever is about you.
Plus, I have a blackboard in the bath/toilette, if you get bored while you sit there, you can write or draw a coloured message on that!:)
I think the best it would be when you start with a couple of days in my flat, then we could decide together whether if is a good idea to go on with it or not.

Personal DescriptionRAINBOWS OF COLOUR
I'm very interested into cultural differencies, as cultures are the various faces of the earth. I can be very extrovert and outgoing, but there are also clouds and shadows inside me. My favourite color in this period of my life is dark green; it used to be before dark blue.
The cities in my heart, as they represent different stages in my life, are LEIDEN (Netherlands), NUERNBERG (Germany) and PORTO (Portugal). The cities where I'd like to live in case I have next lifes are BERLIN (definitely!), STOCKHOLM (possible the most beautiful city ever visited), LISBOA (city where I fall enchanted for every view and corner) and GENOVA (the biggest surprise of my CS verano '08). Part of my family comes from CALABRIA, part from VENEZIA (and I go there in the memory of my dear granpa at least once a year), part from LODI. There is then MILANO, of course. It is my Ur, my origin and my roots (according to Heidegger, I should say: my destiny; but this sounds a bit too much!;). I love&hate MILANO, as it probably represents fairly well my good&bad sides.
I believe there is something sacred in some places (which I can feel into old churches or natural sites), but I'm not religious.
Shoul also add that I love to dance. I mean, not always, but anyway life is already a dance with a soundtrack, isn't it?

Last, but not least, would also like to add that my favourite non-urban landscapes are: hills, rivers, lakes (pics taken from places I've been and loved)
DAYS OF FIREHow I Participate in CSI'd like to surf and host in the best way I can: experiencing the spirit of the countries I visit, trying to share with my guests what the place where I live means to me. I like then to organize events and cultural initiatives here in Milano, like sightseeing, exhibitions, etc... I mean, getting to know international people is one of the main aims and delights in my life. Travelling as well. I already hosted several friends on my couches and visited others in their countries; so, why not making this with new friends?

Last, but not least, I wrote this:
The "Biking in Milano" CS MANIFESTO
CouchSurfing ExperienceI've been often travelling asking hospitality to friends around Europe. I think that's the best way to do it.
Now I've been 3 times in BERLIN couchsurfing, then BUCHAREST, CINQUE TERRE, PARMA, SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, TRENTO, all around DENMARK and around PORTUGAL&BONN&LYON and many other places together with Valeria (Dublin, Corsica, Sardegna, Sicilia, etc). Will be soon somewhere else around Europe and looking forward this...
And I've spent a great CS summer '08: DENMARK, PORTUGAL&SPAIN (together with the best travel "mate" ever) and then joined the great AVILA medieval market CS international meeting and, of course, I often have guests on my couches.
NYE '08-'09: BRATISLAVA&WIEN together with... Valeria again!:)
CS SUMMER '09: SICILIA (with CS Meeting in GERACI SICULO), NETHERLANDS, SARDEGNA, CORSICA, IRELAND!:)
UPD
It is such an amazing experience to host international people in my place and to be hosted and meet CS people around (more or less 100 CS hosted, have been hosted by approx 25 CS and met a number of several hundreds CS people so far, October 2009!:)
InterestsI guess I can be only very general here, you can find more in my profile, in case you are interested: politics (left, deeply left, inspired by Foucault&Deleuze&Mike Davis mainly, but opened and interested in confronting and sharing discussions and ideas), music (below), travelling (a quick view on my trips here on my profile), art (as a journalist, also), culture, fun (I wish I could be a hip hop dancer in another life), girls&women (I mean, we're supposed to be sincere in here, isn't it? Well, this is so far one of my main interests in life!;), food&wine&beer&coffee!
And if you'd like to discover more about my interests please take a look to the list here on the left of the CS groups I subscribed, as they tell more about me!
UPD
Should add now that since some time already, also my girlfriend is definitely one of the hits in my life!:)
PhilosophyPhilosophy can be expressed better by music sometimes, so if you want to know more about this, you can check out my profile ("Epimeleia") on LastFM (my favourite on line radio) or MySpace (not very updated, sorry)
And then some words and quotes, altough often words are not enough:
"Wonder and curiosity towards the world and the being. Being amazed by this, here is where philosophy begins." (Aristotle)
In order to explore and discover a city, what I usually like is to get lost into its streets&districts. As Walter Benjamin said:
"Not to find one's way about in a city, is of little interest, but to lose one's way in a city, as one loses one's way in a forest, requires practice." ("Non sapersi orientare in una città' non vuol dir molto. Ma smarrirsi in essa come ci si smarrisce in una foresta, è una cosa tutta da imparare.")
"Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict
myself. I am large, I contain multitudes."" (W. Whitman)
"I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way" (J. Rabbit) This way!
"Videogames do not influence kids. I mean, if Pac-Man influenced our generation, we were all jumping in dark rooms, chomping pills and listening to electronic repeating music." (K. Wilson, Nintendo Inc. 1989) Somehow like this?;)
"And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."(F. Nietzsche)

Types of People I enjoyPeople that has curiosity inside and show respect outside.
F**k the so called "fashion city"! I'd like to host people that want to discover a bit of the real Milano (my city, good or bad).
Teach, Learn, ShareWhat you can expect from me, are tons of questions about your country, the culture, the lifestyle, the food and the mentality there. I apologize in advance for that, but I'm very curious!:)
Then, of course, I can answer to all the questions you want about my city, my people and my life.
I like sharing through food&music&talking&walking around together. Don't want to sound arrogant (I'm definitely not, trust me!;), but I know quite well my city, its history&urban geography and the best places where you can find what you look for.
In case then you're interested in the work for my thesis ("The philosophical background of the local project"), it was published here
PS
And, as it is my job too, if you're willing, I can of course also teach you something of italian language (or even better italian hand gestures language): buongiorno/buonasera/buonanotte signore/signora/signorina!;)
One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneEPISODE I
I've probably lost 250 euros in the bankomat machine because I was reading the newspaper and I forgot to take the money with me. This happened one hour ago, and I'm still pissed with myself because of this. Now I have to wait to days two know if somebody took my money away and I lost the money!
Thanks God, sort of things like this are not happening very often...
PS
But, in the end nobody took my money from the bankomat and I saved the money... gosh&pfui, this is going to be my lucky year!:)
By I keep going on sometimes forgetting things around, friends say my head is sometimes into clouds... :)
EPISODE II
This is not up to me, but to an amazing pigeon. I was waiting for a CS guest from Australia in the train station, had my jacket on, as it was lunch break and I came directly from school. The train was late and had to stand and wait there... 'til this bird was shitting right on my head and jacket! Damned pigeon, and I even have just 2 jackets (as I wear them just for school when I'm teaching, but together with flip flop sometimes, as a philosophy teacher is somehow supposed to be a bit alternative, isn't it?)!:)
EPISODE III
I usually complain about the cold winter in Milano... well, after surviving one week to minus 15 in the lovely&snowy Lithuania (coldest climate ever my skin was touched by), I promise I won't claim anymore about north-italian winter!:)
EPISODE IV (set in Bucharest)
After years of interest about the jewish history, thanks to Anda, I joined a jewish celebration in the sinagogue of Bucharest! Such an emotion to me, thinking about all the history of Eastern Europe, to be there into this old building listening to ancient rituals.
PS
Less deep, but also important: had a great 32nd birthday in Bucharest, organizing a nice CS meeting + drum&bass rave dancing after, together with locals and international travellers!:)
EPISODE V
Have eaten lots of deliscious sardinhas&francesinha in Portugal and several kind of tapas in Spain during the summer '08 and gained just a few kilos!;)
EPISODE VI
Probably it is not amazing, but I'm quite proud of this video-documentary about immigration, dismissed/abandoned areas and industrial archeology in Pavia:
Industrial archeology Documentary 1
Industrial archeology Documentary 1
EPISODE VII
Me and my girlfriend missed for the first time in our lifes a flight, due to the traffic... well, incredible but true, we didn't have an histerical breakdown or a bad argument/fight and just took the train and reached Bonn in 9 hours with a relaxing trip along the Rhein river... good sign for us, isn't it?!;)
EPISODE VIII
Danced a real imperial valzer at midnight in Wien during the CS NYE party and then again in front of the real Danube (that here meets the Morava in a magic place we visited) in Bratislava!
EPISODE IX
CS BAAAAAALORDA 2009!!!:)
EPISODE X
Bike ride together with my lovely and favourite travel mate (and perfect+creative organizer too, love you for this!:) in a super sunny and windy day from Dublin to the North Bull Beach and then 'til Howth, where we met Sbuffina The Seal!:)
EPISODE XI
Cycling around the Texel island with a "sort of" Harley Davidson style bike... and also cooked there the worst risotto experiment ever: with smoked haring, double puah!;)
EPISODE XII
Have joined (alone as a male) in July '09 a crazy and super-sporty water gym session together with 50 old and young women!;)
EPISODE XIII
Have eaten fresh made ricotta together with sicilian farmers 1500 meters above the sea up to the mountain together with the Geraci Siculo CS meeting!:)
EPISODE XIV
Have cycled from Alghero in Sardegna 'til some high cliffs into wild nature in Punta Giglio anche found there the best view and some very strange and abandoned/empty buildings from the second world war!
AGAIN
Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectI think this is a brilliant idea and hopefully I do all my best (travelling, hosting, organizing events, partecipating to the local and international CS communities) on order to contribute to this!:)
UPD
Of course CS is not a perfect world and there are no perfect communities on Planet Earth, but definitely worth contributing to this project and make our life experience richer and more creative!:)

From Alessandro Pilo Sassari, Italy Aug 28 Positive A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to spend a day with Lorenzo and Valeria.
It was enough to understand their warm, humourous and bright presence
is more addictive than heroin, and that's why their couchs are so sought-after:
once you meet Valeria and Lorenzo you'll start needing their company more and more.
So be careful with them: you could start buying tickets to Milan more than is healthy, and what is worst, you could start having a urgent need for a milanese cycling tour.
Forewarned is forearmed...
From Ilaria Fanari Uras, Italy Aug 27 Positive Lorenzo and Valeria are a great couple that me and my family had the chance to know and host.
It was a great pleasure to have the possibility to show my place to them.
they are a really polite, clean and friendy couple that we were happy to host for more if needed.

I hope to see you again soon, it was a real pleasure to meet you both
take care
Ila & family
From AVONWINT Laconi, Italy Aug 27 Positive Lorenzo and Valeria are the kind of people you seem to have known for a while after you just met them; actually they are a lovely and polite couple of well experienced couchsurfers. We had a good conversation about CS meetings in Milan, work experience and much more while spending a relaxing evening in the Flumendosa valley and enjoying the easy-going side of life. Thanks for visiting us!
From Luigi Tarini Cagliari, Italy Aug 27 Positive I knew since the very first mail this guy was worth being met and not just for the studies and parental background in common.
I was pleased to spend two days with a lovely and kind person, genuinely curious and attracted by the big and small things Sardinia can offer. I hope next time to share some CS gossip with you, Valeria and Luca, better with some pardule. =)
From Hege Paulsen Oslo, Norway Aug 9 Positive We had so much fun with Lorenzo and Valeria biking around beautiful Favignana! Very funny guy, good biker, great drinker of beer! Come visit us in Oslo!!!!!!!!!!!
From Maria Donadel Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Aug 2 Positive Lorenzo is a really nice person. He took me out for the best coffee in Milano and showed me around the city. It's a shame we didn't have a lot of time to hang out but it was really fun anyway!

Really kind and open to know new culture, places and meet people, for sure he has a perfect traveller attitude. I’m quite sure that next time we will get more time for speak about more other million things… you and Valeria are always welcome in Sicily. Thanks for pretty gift, Bruno will be happy for that! Marianna and me have really appreciated it!
From NEstore Grenoble, France Jul 28 Positive First of all I must say I thought you were 28 (it’s a compliment!). ; ) Your humility, your modesty, your big heart certainly can’t leave me indifferent, Lorè!! From Julia Romas Leiden, Netherlands Jun 20 Positive Lorenzo is a relaxed and laid-back guy (but not boring..:)). We met in Leiden where he stayed with a mutual CS friend.Because of his calmness and polite curiosity (and funny jokes when you least expect them) I immediately felt comfortable around him. It was a pleasure having him around and I hope we can meet again in the future.

From Marco Smarri Lanza Milano, Italy Jun 29, 2008 Positive To share feelings and points of view, seems uncommon nowadays. But Lorenzo is really a fine and sensible person, as few people I had the luck to have met.
He works in the social and love to show to other persons the hidden things a city may forget. Even good manners.
Don't forget to send him a postcard after leaving his house, because he believe CS is not just hosting.
From Shelby Chubb Brighton, United States Jun 26, 2008 Due to a whole bunch of bad luck and unfortunate circumstances, we were unable to meet up as originally planned. I felt really bad about all our mishaps and feel lucky that Lorenzo was still willing to offer my friend and I lunch at his flat. It's really unfortunate that we didn't get to know each other better because our brief talks before/during lunch were very animated and interesting. Thanks for your understanding, Lorenzo!
From Ivan Damien Castagna Milano, Italy Jun 24, 2008 Positive I swear to all the people that start with CS to be lucky as me and to know such a great guy as Lorenzo. I mean that is has been the first guy that I met to a meeting, here in Milan. My experience couldn't start better! Even when I drink too much spirits =) =)

From Steven Syrek New York, United States Jun 20, 2008 Positive I contacted Lorenzo six months before my intended stay, and he was a super guy for maintaining a correspondence with me that whole time. I will definitely be visiting Italy again to visit Lorenzo and all the wonderful couchsurfers in that wonderful country.

I first met him at the CS dinner, where he proved how generous he is, for example offering a drink to everybody... even for people who didn't want alcohol (yeah, usually people who don't drink alcohol are disadvantaged, for once I wasn't, so a big thanks... and for the hot chocolate by itself of course)
Then some of us (the 2 of us, his GF, Adriana & Denisa), went to a D&B party. Lorenzo proved me that she was able to have fun, with nice moves :-p
Finally, I met Lorenzo & Valeria again the day after, when wevisited The Village Museum with Adriana, and he showed some high interest in Romanian culture.

He cooked us a wonderful Italian dinner (I was taking notes) and had a wonderful meal and conversation with him and his girlfriend. It was eye opening to speak with them openly about everthing from culture, tradition, and politics. It was eye opening and refreshing. I hope all of our visits are as educational and inspiring. "A curly man with a green jacket". This is what Lorenzo had told me about him before out appointment. Well, of course he is very much more. We spent a very nice time in a sunny Milan day together. He showed me the Milan he likes, his favourite area, his good addresses, the "little thing that a tourist just can't discover in a day" and that I enjoy so much. He taught me about History and it was sincerely interesting. We talked about many things, just because we had a lot to share. I enjoyed a lot. And this is not just a sentence.
Thanks very much Lorenzo. This is exactly what I enjoy in CS, meeting local people for sharing country, talks, philosophy and emotions.
Ariverdeci.

He made our holiday in Milano unforgettable by arranging a lot of CS events, going out dancing with us or having some aperitivo at a bar, inviting for dinner at his place, and just being so nice, helpful all the time. From Doris Neubauer Vienna, Austria May 5, 2008 Positive Lorenzo, jaaaa, please come to Vienna, I´d love to host you&meet you again! There are not enough words to express how caring, funny, smart, creative, enthusiastic, adventurous... Lorenzo is. He made our Milano trip really special, introduced us to his city and the crowd of great CS people there. We count us lucky that he had some days off as well and really did spend that much time with us. It sounds kitschy, but it`s true: You`re just amazing and definitely our number 1!
Update: He did come to Vienna - with Valeria ;-) It was my pleasure to have both of them here, rescuing us (Viennese people) from a "boring" NY party by organizing one themselves, being known within 2 min. by everyone... Just meet him, and you´ll know what I am talking about!

He's just a perfect couchsurfer. He will accompany you to discover the many beauties of his city, not the crowded&touristical ones but the best (and hidden) corners&views that Milan can offer.
I had the pleasure to surf couches with him and I can say that he's also an exemplary guest. Polite, respectful, but also funny and curious he will be happy to share time and stories with his host, and not only get an accomodation.
Beside all this I want to add that he's now a very important person for me. Thanks to some common passions for cultural stuff (he's a real authority in the field) and couchsurfing, we've discovered a great joy in sharing experiences together.

Lorenzo is an extremely radiant, interesting and polite guy. He invited me on a short trip to Venice and we had a great time: as a traveller, he is a real flaneur, who likes to walk and absorb the atmosphere of a city. He's not a hectic person, but the sort of traveller who will take his time to see a place properly.
If you travel with him or are hosted by him, you're bound to discover a lot of things related to the history and culture of the place where you are... But you will also know the place through its food and drink, for which we share a real passion!
I can guarantee the guy's very good company both as your guide, and as a fellow traveller ^_^

From Elena Zvonareva Saint Petersburg, Russia Oct 16, 2007 Positive this was my first and quite sudden experience wit couch serfing..so i wonder if it si possible to meet such a good person as Lorenzo in the future, the experience is suspecioselly good))) just from the first day I had the impression we had known each other for a long time..a lot of friendly trust-this is an utmost impotant criteria for me..so i strongly recommend Lorenzo as host..a perfect host I d say!!!!!!!!!!!! perfect planning, he provides you with al necessary info, the map and so on.. one can rely on this person- that is great..he acts like a real teacher(which he actually is!), helping the child to find the own way, supporting where necessary and giving freedom when needed..

From COPA917 Tokyo, Japan Sep 26, 2007 Positive Lorenzo is such a very unique and fun person. What amazed me was that he is curious about all kind of things. He is the nice person at heart. He gave me the guidance about the city. I can tell that he is such a great teacher. He helped me a lot for me enjoying the stay!
From Melanie Scott Brisbane, Australia Sep 21, 2007 Positive Lorenzo is a very generous and caring person. My Italian improved thanks to his patience and explanations and thru our conversations I gained lots of insight into Italian life. As much as he loves food, I haven't been able to convince him to try vegemite!
From Julie Meyer Boise, United States Sep 10, 2007 Positive We loved staying with Lorenzo! He was so fun to be around, showed us around the area, was very patient with our myriad of questions about the area and truly enjoyed spending time with him. I would give Lorenzo an excellent reference and say that he had a very comfortable couch!
From Francesca Tara Milano, Italy Sep 7, 2007 Positive lorenzo is very funny and crazy person!!! |
