Personal DescriptionI'm coming to West Africa October 2008-??? I'll be coming with some CS friends (check out my profile list), Josh Hegarty, Sjoukje, Hala and Adam Kendrick- Kewley! We are all experienced travels and are a diverse group of individuals! We'd love if you could host some or all of us as we travel from Morocco down to Senegal, spend time in Cameroon and head back west through Ghana and who knows where else!!!
While I am in West Africa I really hope to find a few great places to spend some deal of time volunteering! With a friend in the peace corps in northern Cameroon and contact at an NGO in Ghana, I have at least two places I want to get involved, but who knows where else I will end up?
I love children and I want to pursue a "career" in sustainable education development- building schools, training local teachers, etc- in different areas of the world that need this kind of work!
I'm also interested in any other development or aid issues and I know I still have a lot of learning to do!How I Participate in CSAs a nomadic ambassador I try my best to uphold the CS spirit wherever I travel. I've attended numerous meetings in SE Asia, and have organized gatherings in Senegal, Morocco, Singapore, Vietnam, Sacramento and plenty in Seattle! I plan to continue to surf where I can, host when its possible, and bring people together in cities where the surfers are there but may not have networked with each other yet.
I tell EVERYONE about this site. I think my friends have tired from me telling random people who we meet about couchsurfing and how incredible it is for independent travelers. I've convinced quite a few to join up and I will continue to get people involved in this great social project!
CouchSurfing ExperienceI've surfed much more than I've hosted and for that I need to repay the CS community one day!
I surfed with:

Sherrif and Laye AGAIN in Dakar August 2009
Ahmed and Hamdi AGAIN in Marrakech November 2009 InterestsI love traveling, rock climbing, traveling, biology, cooking, sustainable education and traveling. Did I mention I like to travel?
Seriously, traveling is all I think about, all I dream about, all I write about. Its my passion and my curse and as of now I am indulging myself and diving headfirst into as many travels as I can.
In terms of what interests me during traveling... I love languages, although I haven't spent enough time in any one place to gain fluency. I am a mountain lover, and find beaches usually quite boring. That said I feel I can be content anywhere I go if I can find some adventure there. A little danger, a little excitment, a little friendship, a little love.
In my every action, my every decision there is a reflection of my passion for travel and my constant pursuit of life inside and outside myself.
Also I now know that what I'd like to do in this world involves sustainable education in developing nations. I can't wait for my next trip to West Africa where I can get further involved in my new passion.PhilosophyIts a small world when you live large.
Live to travel. Travel to live.
The journey is the destination.
YOU'RE COMING WITH!Music, Movies, BooksOK top 5 movies: Love Actually, The Saint, Good Will Hunting, Shawshank Redemption, and Newsies.
I also am really getting into Bollywood movies. I just love the music, the hysteria, the cheese! I can't help myself!
My favorite book used to be The Odyssey but I LOVE Shantaram by Greggory David Roberts. Read it!
I also loved The Alchemist, The Kite Runner, Mountains Beyond Mountains, Three Cups of Tea, Angels of Russia, Into the Wild, Atonement, Snow Falling on Cedars, and more! Anything by Graham Greene is awesome!
I really like classic rock music, led zeppelin, eric clapton pink floyd etc. But truthfully I love music in all forms from every corner of the globe. Nothing stirs emotions and life in people more than experiencing and sharing the music of another culture.Types of People I enjoyGenuine, passionate, intelligent people who are open to taking an alternative look at something taken for granted.
People who can offer me something I've never considered. Some new perspective on my life, on the world as a whole or on something tiny.
How about anyone who loves animals!
Or just anyone who likes to travel, have adventures and have fun!One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneI've worked with a well educated man trying to scrape by a living to support his 4 daughters by basically volunteering to teach in a mountainous rural elementary school in India. When I asked him if he would ever stop teaching to take a job to make more money, he simply answered that he will never quit because he is needed there.Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectI'd love to surf on every continent and hope to host people from all over the world as well!! This is the best project I've come across for independent travelers and I'm not afraid to tell everyone I meet.Locations TraveledTRAVELED: Austria, Belgium, Benin, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada, China, Cote D'Ivoire, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Ghana, Hungary, India, Ireland (Republic of), Italy, Laos, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Netherlands, Niger, Nigeria, Norway, Portugal, Senegal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Togo, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam LIVED: Italy, United States WANTS TO GO: Antarctica, Argentina, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Botswana, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Iran, Japan, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mongolia, New Zealand, Oman, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, Venezuela References

From Sheena Burke Bothell, United States Sep 11, 2008 Positive Evan is a blast to be around and always good for an awesome travel story or piece of trivia. African capitals are his specialty! He is very involved with CS!
From Robert Parham Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel Sep 10, 2008 Positive Although i didn't spend much time with evan, i'm in his debt for organizing my 30th birthday party in seattle. my travel plan led to me not being in my home country for my birthday, and evan and britt made sure i'll feel at home and between friends. THANKS!
From Garlen Lo London, United Kingdom Sep 1, 2008 Positive evan is a star. he drove us to gas works park in seattle and we had a lovely day chatting about our travels. in particular india and pakistan. then he drove me all the way back to where i was staying. a truely great ambassador of CS.
From Happy_Henry Vancouver, Canada Sep 1, 2008 Positive Evan is a really dedicated cser, he deserves his Ambassador! without him, I would drive my ass off to get around Seattle! He took me and some other csers to a beautiful park, I enjoy hanging out with him. Good luck with your Africa trip, man!
From OEBILGEN Seattle, United States Aug 23, 2008 Positive Evan is a really nice guy and he is a key actor in Seattle CS events. This cool CSer is fun to talk and a professional turist. If you still don't know him, just say hi and let the conversation go.
From Peter Olsoy Nampa, United States Aug 17, 2008 Positive Evan was super nice and welcoming. His pub trivia events were two of the best CS events I made it out to. I'm happy to be part of the team that finally got first place at Kiwis & Kangaroos, even if Evan had to leave before the final scores were tallied!
I wish I could have talked more with him, and I especially wish I could make it to the Golden Gardens BBQ. Maybe we'll meet again before he goes off traveling again, but if not--good luck!
From Christopher Bohannon Seattle, United States Aug 6, 2008 Positive Evan has a wonderful disposition -- we have met up on several occasions in Seattle and each time he has been very easy to talk with. Evan is very interested in travelling as much as possible, so I hope you get an opportunity to host and get to know this great guy.
From RUBBERDUK Helsinki, Finland Aug 4, 2008 Positive The archetype of an active ambassador, Evan is one of the reasons Seattle's CS community is as awesome as it is!
During my stay he introduced me to some of his friends, took me to CS events, drove me around and even hosted me on an extremely short notice when I was in a pinch.
Did I mention he's also a cool guy to hang around with? :)
From J.J. Stein Seattle, United States Aug 3, 2008 Positive A kind, gentle, friendly, welcoming person, Evan helped introduce me to the lovely Seattle CS community.
I look forward to planning CS events with you and I am uber-jealous of your African travel plans!!
From Allen Wright Bellevue, United States Aug 1, 2008 Positive Evan became an Ambassador shortly before returning to Seattle from traveling as another was leaving. He dove in and started planning events right off the bat. From beerfests to square dancing Evan has made some good times in Seattle happen.
From Silvia De Conca Rome, Italy Jul 29, 2008 Positive evan is fantastic!! he organizes events, he's friendly, he took care of me, he's interesting, kind, sweet, funny, the perfect cser!!! highly recommended, he's a beautiful person and Iìll surely miss him a lot!!!
From Cheryl Smalley Seattle, United States Jul 27, 2008 Positive Evan is an absolutely rocking human being is my impression so far. I've spoken with him at every one of the...five? CS events I've been to so far, many of which he's organized and ruthlessly promoted. (I'm still sorry I missed the canoe adventure, Evan!) He's a first rate ambassador and makes everyone feel as if they've always been a friend, just didn't know it yet.
From Sean Harlan Bend, United States Jul 24, 2008 Positive Evan replied right away to my couch surfing request and was very accomodating throughout. I was attending a concert in Seattle and he hooked me up with other couch surfers that were also going. He went out of his way to make sure everything worked out and I was comfortable and was very sincere. He drove me to where I needed to be and offered to host me again if I needed. I was fortunate enough as well to meet some of his friends who were all wonderful. Thanks for an unforgettable first couch surfing experience!
From Dave Lichterman Seattle, United States Jul 23, 2008 Positive Evan is a lot of fun and a great asset to have in the Seattle CS community. That, and we think of the same answers at trivia, regardless of correctness.
From Mark Bolden Kula, United States Jul 19, 2008 Positive I was only in Seattle for a week, and with only one days notice, he had me out an about meeting people and showing me the town. The entire experience is one I will never forget, and I have Evan to thank for a great deal of that. I look forward to seeing him again someday.
From Rachel Payne Lancaster, United States Jul 18, 2008 Positive I appreciate Evan's conscientous attitude toward couch-surfing. He makes a point of welcoming new people into the community and helping everyone feel comfortable. I hope our paths cross again soon--happy travels!
From Erica Throneburg Urbana, United States Jul 11, 2008 Positive i don't know evan as well as i would like to yet...but what i know is that he's genuine, fun-lovin', adventurous, and awesome at remembering country capitals. hope to have several more rocking trivia nights before the end of the summer...let's win a pitcher, eh??
From Jeremy Alonzi Vienne, France Jul 9, 2008 Positive What else could I say more... just one of the more important CS in the Seattle Groups, I can't imagin without him^^
thx to have organize a lot of events, and for help a lot all travelers, like me, in your nice city:) = a great guy ! à bientôt mon ami !
From SMURPHY Seattle, United States Jul 7, 2008 Positive I've met Evan at Seattle gatherings and have had a good time getting to know him! He's had a lot of great travel experiences, making for some good chats. Evan is for sure a very genuine and fun person to be around.
From Assaf Weinberg Long Beach, United States Jul 7, 2008 Positive I met Evan in the Seattle international Beerfest and had some good beers and laughs together.
From Jeewan Ghuman Seattle, United States Jul 4, 2008 Positive Evan is a great guy to hang out with and talk to. He knows how to laugh, which is great!
Plus he's been to India, that has to make someone amazing, right?
From David Lawrence Saint Louis, United States Jul 3, 2008 Positive What can I say that hasn't already mentioned (like how he's a great guy and how you should surf with/host him if you get the chance, and what not...)?
Here are two new things that I can add:
1)If you were ever stuck on an island and could only get off the island if you could answer a question regarding world capitals, this is the person you would want to bring to the island (assuming you want to get off the island.)
2)He has great/strong ethics when it comes to pub trivia which I appreciate -the question master wants to know if you know the answer, not if you have an iphone and can search wikipedia.
Thanks Evan for being a strong leader in the CS community up there in Seattle. I had a great time at all of the events.
**UPDATE**
I failed to read Ricky's reference before leaving this one, so Evan's prowess as a trivia team member when it comes to world capitals was apparently nothing new but is worthy of repeating.
From Ricky Shetty Vancouver, Canada Jul 3, 2008 Positive MULTIPLE MEETINGS!! Evan and I met up several times during my stay in Seattle (Trivia Night, Gasworks Park, Red Door, Fremont Solstice Festival, Roast Pig Potluck, etc). Evan is a great conversationalist, you can talk to him about nearly everything under the sun. Very mature for his age! Great CS Ambassador (Evan symbolises the spirit of Couch Surfing so well with his passion for traveling and helping out people). Evan even brought his entire family to a CS meeting. Evan knows more capital cities than anyone I have met in my life (perfect for those late night trivia challenges). Would love to travel with Evan one day!!
From I like Pizza?? Yeahhh!!!! Paris, France Jul 1, 2008 Positive Evan is a very active member in the CS community in Seattle. We shared quiz, beers and a roasted pig!. We're also waiting for you in Paris!!
From Hassan Arbab Seattle, United States Jun 18, 2008 Positive I have met and hanged out with Evan in many Seattle CS gatherings and I have to say he never fails to impress me with his warm and engaging personality. From SATSUMA Seattle, United States Jun 10, 2008 Positive Evan and I make Seattle events happen! Looking forward to working with you, Evan!
From Hanz Cubillan Angono, Philippines Jun 5, 2008 Positive Have to say thank you to Evan for organizing that trip to that water park in Ho Chi Minh City. I'm hooked!

From Tammy Phan Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam May 21, 2008 Positive Evan firstly is a very tall guy with blue eyes and a lot of hair around his mouth (guess you all know what i wanna describe, hehe, if not look at his pic ^^). He's a good and really very funny guy who an make you "laugh to death" (in Vietnamese, we say ""Cuoi den chet", hehe). If you want to find a real friend to talk to and hang out with, it's him. He knows how to have good fun.
Evan Evan Evan, come back Vietnam ;)...
From Rina Lee Singapore, Singapore May 15, 2008 Positive Evan is really a nice guy.

From Nancy Woods Sacramento, United States May 11, 2008 Positive I met Evan and his mom and dad at a local CS event. Very nice fellow, articulate and interesting.
From Matthew Dimos Chicago, United States May 10, 2008 Positive I have rarely found it so easy to travel with anyone as I did with Evan. He was fun to be around, accommodating to what I wanted to see and do, and very open to asking and answering my many questions. My trip to Saigon would not have been as powerful as it was for me had it not been for my time with Evan. Above all this, the best way I could describe Evan is a man of integrity and passion.
From Christopher Reade Lomholt Ringe, Denmark May 9, 2008 Positive Really cool guy. We met up for lunch in China Town in SF. He is a very interesting person. He has been all over the world - even Denmark.. I think we have a lot of things in common - especially the passion for travelling. If he's in your town, meet up with him. I'm sure you'll have a very positive experience.

From Natasha Stalker Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam May 5, 2008 Positive Evan is a totally awesome person, extremely easy going and great guest/travel companion/friend/motorbike driver - fellow wine drinker, cheese, dessert and food connoiseur.
I highly recommend him to any future hosts or travel buđdies in the futụrẹ as he as the amazing knack of calming people down in the light of any potential disasters that may arise. This is despite the usual tummy bugs, long bus rides that never end, and points of crisis that occur whenever one travels.
We have had some great trips around Vietnam, Burma and Thailand so far, and I'm very much looking forward to exploring Seattle this summer with him as my guide. Unfortunately I did not spend much time with Evan on his last trip to Vietnam, but I'm sure that he'll be an awesome host when it's my turn to visit his city! Definitely contact Evan if you have any questions about anything to do with travel because I believe he is one of the most selfless and caring people I've ever met, and I'm sure you will feel the same way too.
From Alishacc Ermont, France May 5, 2008 Positive Evan is a really great guy who likes spending & sharing time with people from everywhere. He is open minded, lively guy, full of energy and life. I hope to see him again somewhere on this big Earth ...!
From Adrian Fahrni Calgary, Canada May 4, 2008 Positive Evan is one rad person. We first met in Vietnam when we both were riding through the country on our motos. After Vietnam, we travelled together in northern Laos. A month later, after we traveled different countries, we met up once again in Borneo where we hitchhiked our way around. We better get the chance to met up and travel again!
