Gavin McDonald

I met Gavin one morning through a friend who was surfing on his couch, I had no intentions of staying with him at all but after randomly hanging out for breakfast and mimosas one morning we ended up hanging out all day and I stayed on his couch that night.

Gavin is a very funny guy who is totally laid back, has lots of good stories (and jokes, ask him to tell you a joke ;), very trustworthy and seems to just wanna have fun and experience life to the MAX with anyone and everyone!

Gavin and his roommate Zach were great hosts. They are tons of fun and made me feel at home. Gavin is full of funny stories and jokes and made my time in San Fran very memorable. He even took me on my first motorcycle ride through the city which was awesome! Thanks so much!!

Gavin and Zach hosted me for a couple of days in a beautiful San Francisco.I wish we spend more time together...but anyways they are great guys and i had a good experience there!

Gavin was our first host, and it was an awesome time! Wish we could have stayed longer and gone on a motorcycle ride, but maybe next time. Oh and when we come back I promise we'll soak up more culture. Good luck with the delicious diet!! :)

Gavin was a great host. As my first experience with couchsurfing, he and his roommate Zach left a great impression. Both super friendly and easy to get along with. Overall great experience.

Gavin took me and my sister in, cooked us dinner, showed us around and gave us some good advice. Nice guy and great host.

Gavin is the F'n man! Hes got a motorcycle, a leather jacket, a great apartment, great travel stories, guitar hero, a couch, an extensive wardrobe, a coin collection valued at up to $1.37, a stylish haircut, and (last i checked) a couple of beers in the fridge. Hes hosted more couch surfers than anyone i know and they keep coming back for more. Stay at his place, let him stay at your place, both wise choices.

 

We had a great time eating fondue with fresh baked bread. Respectful, nice guy.

GOOD GOD was Gavin and his roomie, Ryan, a great f-ing time! He gave us a great place to stay, cooked for us and helped us find where we needed to go. I really hope he comes to Miami so I can return the favor because he is so freakin' awesome and hilarious!

 

Gavin was my first-ever CS host! He's a funny , laid-back couch-surfing EXPERT... so he's a great travel-planning resource! Also, he cooked a great dinner and let me have some. And I learned how to make potatoes. :) Overall, it was a great experience for me! Thank you!!!

It was a very positive experience and he even spoiled us with great pizza...

The time we spend together was a lot of fun and he was a great help...

Ah Gavin, my roommate, my best friend in this fine city. He's always a blast to have around, tells some awesome stories and is one of the friendliest people I've ever met. He likes hominy too much and makes too many one-pot dishes, but I can let that slide because he's a great guy.

 

Gavin! What an amazing and fun guy! We had a great day at the beach and then gorged ourselves on sweets at a local retro diner. Not only did I fall for his trickery but I got him back with the long arm maneuver! lol! Can't wait to rock the States in my bus buddy! Enjoy San Fran and early happy birthday!

I met Gavin while surfing in Berkeley. He has some great stories about couchsurfing around the world (ask about the time he impersonated a Serbian doctor), and he even offered to hook me up with a job in the Bay area!

Me and Born in The Run went with Gavin for a few beers in local bar one night.I think that he enjoyed Serbian night life and beer.

He tought me a lot about traveling (has been practically everywhere) and shared pretty cool stories of people he encountered. Great guy to get to know.

super cool dude with AMAZING stories...ask him about the snake in the park in oceanside, ca...pretty funny shit! this guy has balls!! pretty much the coolest guy i met in europe (too bad he's not european). we had a great time drinking beer and wine in madrid and buying stupid train tickets drunk (always a bad idea). stoked the kid lives on the west coast now :)

 

Twice now, Gavin has hung out and parties with me and my friends, then got up and chilled with his new friends all morning long. He's a great guy, and he'll keep you laughing for hours. We even started our own club, which you can join if you qualify.

 

Gavin impressed me with his honesty... Dude can be witty too. He hung in there as we spent Saturday night in the Castro! Good guy to be around, funny and kind. Good luck with the job!!

Gavin was a kind and considerate guest. We had a good time going out for food and ice cream with him, and hearing stories from his travels. Sorry our cat was such a freak!

I am updating this reference now that Gavin is like family. He's been surfing my couch for about a week now and it's great having him around. We traveled to Tahoe together and had a blast then he surfed my place in Berkeley. He has been a great help around the house- helping to clean before and after a party. He is ridiculously fun with crazy stories from his travels around the world. He is welcome in my home anytime!

Gavin and I have been friends for about three + years, and I don't know what I'd do without him. He's one of the most outrageous, fun loving, and loyal people I know, and has helped me out more times than I can count. He got me a job from thousands of miles away, and persuaded me to join CS so I could make friends in my new home. He is also FULL of excellent travel tips, and spent part of his super long journey living out of a glorified fanny pack. Read his blog! It's highly entertaining. Love you Gavin!!

Gav stormed the flea pit I was staying in in Vientiane and I immediately thought he'd be a good bloke to travel with. The man got me onto couchsurfing and I totally enjoyed his company. Gav's good entertainment, honest, a straight talker and I doubt you'd find many more committed to other couchsurfers, either as a host or a guest.

I met Gavin for a drink in Dublin. Gavin knows his Extra Stout from his Guiness - he must be Irish! We exchanged (or he gave me) lots of travelling tips that'll come in handy when I set off shortly, thanks! Great Guy!

I went to college with Gavin. I am best friends with some of his former roommates and got to know him through them. He's an awesome guy with a wonderful desire to travel and learn. I only wish I could do some of the things that he is doing now, it takes so much courage and heart.

When i first met Gavin, he seemed like a shy guy. I washed out his sweater which got 2 sizes smaller, and i changed his hairstyle, that's why he got a totaly metamorphosis ;) We had really great time in Budapest. Wish you the best for your trip!

He is one of those persons easy to understand, with a special kind of humor and a long travel on his back.

Gavin is one of those guys you hope to meet one day! Where other people collect souvenirs, jewelry and other useless stuff you bring home from your travels as a proof that you have been to some other country, he collects stories. If you meet him, make sure you get him to tell you one of those and I promise you, you won't regret it! I hope to meet him sometime, some place again and then catch up with his new stories!

Gavin is a very nice guy, that I hosted on his hitchhike trip to Barcelone. The evening we spent together has gone very quicly. Hope you havent been soken with hitchhikking that morning!

 

Gavin came to Serbia with a couple of socks , underwear , diary , passport and a broken shoe. Everything else was stolen from him somewhere in Kazakhstan. But they forgot to steel his enthusiasm , because in spite of all the problems he had after 6 months on the road - he was still ready for adventures.
We masked him as a med student and he went with us on my classes in the hospital. He observed 2 rectoscopies , did some suturing and listened to the lecture about colon cancers in SERBIAN. We searched the whole Belgrade to find him appropriate shoes , went to the movies , bar and had great lunch. I hope that he has recuperated a little bit so he could be ready to continue his GO WEST adventure.

Gavin is a really funny guy, we got along immediately, if you want to spend really good time you should meet him! He has all these interesting stories and even if they are not interesting he makes them sound interesting:) The coolest thing is he took a present from me to a friend of mine TO SERBIA in 3 days! The fastest delivery!;)

Gavin is a perfect cat-sitter. If you have a cat, he is your good chance. If you have a duck, even better. Besides, he'll have some cool hitch-hiking stories to tell by the time he gets to your place, believe me! Just look at his face!

Gavin is a good guy, who's making a wonderful trip around the world, visiting many interesting places.

Gavin has an unbelievable observation gift, he read my soul in one night. It is great to know if there is someone can understand and enjoy my jokes.
Anyway, with his smiling face and positive energy, he is really good to have around.

He surfed on a friend of mines couch for the better part of a week, and despite being in a bad situation, was a pretty damn cool guy.

Being stuck in Kazakhstan for several days can't be the best idea and even worst if they haven't stolen your backpack and the Christmas season is arriving, but I tried to make my best and to have Gavin busy...

didn't get to spend too much time with gavin, but he seems like a cool guy. he takes a shining to bears in cages and gives them sticks to play with (for real!). good luck on your journey westward!

I met Gavin standing outside the Interfood. He has been travelling in a taxi with a very silly driver who took him up and down. We managed to make it to my flat and then he... fall asleep. Bless him. The next day he was supposed to go to Astana but we met outside UIB and went for a dinner. It was nice talking to him and getting to know how his life is (my... It took me forever to figure things out but I did understand in the end). We came back to the flat and I put a video for him. I think he was ok with it. The next day he left to get a visa to Baku. He is great kid and I wish him well. I am sure he will do fine in life as he has potential to live a wonderful life. All the best and God bless you. x

 

It is pity that Gavin had a bad experience of getting through the border to KZ. We are generally hospitable country and like newcomers.We had a chat in a pub. I hope Gavin will have an interesting and safe journey.

We met Gavin on our way to Luang Prabang and we had so much fun with him and his friend Phil.We've exchanged our travelling experiences and Gavin gave us good tips on how to use couchsurfing. Thanks to him we've found many couches on which to sleep in Asia ! Thanks Gavin !

 

Gavin surfed my couch in Bangkok on his way around the world. He's a really cool, likable guy. One could only be lucky enough to have Gavin cross their path and surf your couch on his crazy adventure around the world! (D-Backs 3-Cubs 0...Boo-ya! Sucka!)

Gavin is a great guy to hang with. He's very ambitious in his travel plans and that's very respectful, he seems to know that he can do anything as long as he simply tries. He's one of those guys that it's great knowing he's a friend.

Gavin surfed a few days on his first trip here to Asia. Gavin couchsurfed with my friend Emily near San Francisco. We all went camping in Yosemite together and had a blast. We hiked part of Half Dome and saw waterfalls, cooked over the campfire, went stargazing, and had slumber party in a big tent. Props to Gavin for being our Chubby Bunny champion! Gavin is an awesome couchsurfer, so friendly, funny, and open-minded, and a great person to get to know!

I've had great couchsurfers before, but Gavin was by far my favorite. He is charismatic, friendly, has great sense of humor, considerate, and tidy. My friends all loved him and want to join couchsurfing to be hosts after meeting him! He was always finding ways to help me to make up for staying, but having him there was reward enough. He is such an optimistic and positive person. I know he will go far and do great things in life. I will miss him dearly. Have an amazing time in Hawaii and Asia, Gavin! Gavin and I attended college together. We also were part of an organization called College Mentors for Kids. Each week, we would show *at risk* students around the college campus and get them involved in all sorts of new activities!
