Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
No couch currently available for surfing. San Francisco!
I live two blocks from Alamo Square and have good transport to all the great spots. You will be sleeping on a pull out bed in the living room/my room. Its a small place but very cozy and friendly
ATTENTION SMOKERS: You cant stay here. If you dont smoke then read on.
please note: I have couchsurfed A LOT. And to me its a hospitality exchange. That means I give you a place to stay then you make me laugh. If you make me laugh, then I show you around. If I show you around then you make me laugh more. Most of my awesome, kick ass friends I met through couchsurfing. Also, be clean and refrain from obnoxious tendencies. Seriously we'll have a good time. To make sure that you read this, make sure you make the subject of your couch request "Zach is FAT" Zach is my roomie.
you can stay 2-3 days.... or longer depending on how awesome you are.

Personal Descriptionwww.GavinsJourney.com Please read the ABOUT THE COUCH section! Im a nonhomophobic hederosexual male that loves couchsurfing and I have used it heavily on my big trips. A couple years ago I tried to go around the world by heading west and without the use of planes. I had to takes planes eventually though. I only flew over water!
In college I majored in finance and economics and I mentored under-privileged 4th graders. I enjoy the outdoors a lot, I snowboard, hike, run, swim and anything else. I am a very outspoken guy and I guarantee I will make you laugh.
Now I live in San Francisco and travel around the state of California conducting a residential lighting study. I wont bore you with details.
I hardly ever plan anything, I try to figure it all out as I go. Thats actually how I found myself in Kazakhstan once. Im big into story telling, its a family thing.
Around here we like to go out to the bars and grab drinks, got for runs, show tourists around, camp and ride motorcycles. How I Participate in CSI spent 8 months couchsurfing on my around the world trip. I surf, go to the gatherings and soon I will be a host again. Until then I can just offer my knowledge to others. I tell everybody about CS. I had a friend that moved to a new town and was sad because she didnt know anybody. I jumped on the computer and alerted the local CSers. She had friends by the weekend. I really hope there is a CS flag soon. I want to wave it proudly! I might get a CS tatoo soon.CouchSurfing ExperienceJeez, talk about experience. I had a couchsurfing streak of about 120 days during my big trip. Ive stayed with people of all colors and religions, young and old, fun and boring. I love couchsurfing! I got to as many gatherings as I can.
Couchsurfing has also been one of the greatest things to happen to my potential career. When my university wouldnt help me, I contacted a random surfer that worked in HR. He completely overhauled my resume. CSers have given me references for great jobs and a CSer even got me the job I'm moving to California for. Interestssnowboarding, photography, fitness, travel, hiking, renewable energy, environmentalism and the efficient markets that surrounds it, animals, pranks, hitchhiking, I want to get into sailing, motorcycles, cinema noirPhilosophyDo whatever it takes to create a good story for later.
Dont plan your travel. If you plan out a trip like everbody else, you will fly to the foreign place, stay at a hotel, go to the sites and eat at the places that only tourists go to. You will get sucked into the tourist funnel. DONT PLAN. GET LOST. GET IN TROUBLE! This is how you find adventure, this is how you make a trip memorable.Music, Movies, BooksRolf Potts' Vagabonding (a must read for any true traveler)Types of People I enjoypeople with good stories, the open minded and those that crave spontinuity. The adventurous! People that sport polo's and kahkis or people that rock the blue hair and tatoos. Happy go-lucky-schmucks or the dark humored.Teach, Learn, ShareI will use my finance degree to help advise you in any way I can. I am very good at helping people find new ways of budgeting to help solidify their future goals. I can introduce you into basic economic thought if you wish... or I can show you how we of the midwest have a good time. You can pick. I'd be happy to help you out with your english as well. I can also teach you some sign language or how to hitchhike. One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneI once impersonated a medical student at a hospital in Serbia, rode a 23 year old motorcycle across the USA, ate dog, rat and horse. I was almost attacked by a rattle snack in Southern California, I hitchhiked across Europe. I shilled out with my host and all his family butt naked at a Russian banya in Kazakhstan. I snowboarded the Bavarian Alps. I used Couchsurfing to get a good jobOpinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectCouchsurfing is an amazing cause. It brings us all together and keeps us travelers stuck in a job and a single place linked to the backpacker's circle. I am a host for life. Long live Couchsurfing! He's one of the most outrageous, fun loving, and loyal people I know, and has helped me out more times than I can count. He got me a job from thousands of miles away, and persuaded me to join CS so I could make friends in my new home. He is also FULL of excellent travel tips, and spent part of his super long journey living out of a glorified fanny pack. Read his blog! It's highly entertaining. Love you Gavin!!
From KIWI PHIL Harwood, Australia May 3, 2008 Positive Gav stormed the flea pit I was staying in in Vientiane and I immediately thought he'd be a good bloke to travel with. Everything else was stolen from him somewhere in Kazakhstan. But they forgot to steel his enthusiasm , because in spite of all the problems he had after 6 months on the road - he was still ready for adventures.
We masked him as a med student and he went with us on my classes in the hospital. He observed 2 rectoscopies , did some suturing and listened to the lecture about colon cancers in SERBIAN. We searched the whole Belgrade to find him appropriate shoes , went to the movies , bar and had great lunch. I hope that he has recuperated a little bit so he could be ready to continue his GO WEST adventure.
Good luck Gavin - Let the force be with you

From Maya Berik Almaty, Kazakhstan Dec 24, 2007 Positive I met Gavin standing outside the Interfood. He has been travelling in a taxi with a very silly driver who took him up and down. We managed to make it to my flat and then he... fall asleep. Bless him. The next day he was supposed to go to Astana but we met outside UIB and went for a dinner. It was nice talking to him and getting to know how his life is (my... It took me forever to figure things out but I did understand in the end). We came back to the flat and I put a video for him.
