I am 57 years young and recently accepted an early retirement. Being too young to actually "retire" I now have to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life. Four months of traveling around Europe with my son Mike was fun, however, it's back to reality now...
How I Participate in CS
Mike and I met lots of great CS Hosts during our trip to Europe from March 27 to August 1, 2008. I hope to repay their kindness now that we are home by being hosts ourselves...
CouchSurfing Experience
It was a GREAT way to meet some fabulous people as we traveled around Europe.
Interests
Military/world history, airshows, toy soldiers, model railroading, art, culture, travel, architecture, meeting nice, interesting people.
Philosophy
Life is too short not to want to experience many different things...
Music, Movies, Books
Movies and books with an historical theme and of course all the action flicks. Music wise good old Rock and Roll with a sprinkling of classical.
Types of People I enjoy
As I surf through all the CS member profiles I realise that everyone has a unique story to tell. Who couldn't enjoy talking to each and everyone of them with all of their life's experiences...
Teach, Learn, Share
Following on the "history buff" theme I would definitely like to learn about the regional history of the areas I travel. Castles, great people from the area...
One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done
Amazing things I've done? I didn't seriously injure myself when I attempted downhill skiing :-) Amazing things I've seen? That's an easy one - being in the delivery room when my two lovely boys were born. I still get misty thinking about it...
Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org Project
Great website, well put together and easy to navigate. A truly amazing service to travelers and hosts the world over.
This summary is not a replacement for reading references; it's a quick summary to help you get started. At a glance, you can see how many references a member has, and how many of them are positive, neutral, and negative.
In the second line, you'll see how many references came from people who hosted this member, surfed with them, and traveled with them. These numbers won't always add up to the total: some references are not categorized, and some may be categorized as more than one thing.
When viewing this summary, don't jump to conclusions! Things that are negative for one person may be positive for another, and vice versa. It's important to read references carefully and evaluate what that information means to you.
Mike and Gary stayed in Leeds with us for a couple of days. It was interesting hearing about their four months travels around europe. They we really friendly and easy going and we had a good couple of days with them :-)
Gary and Mike were my first couchsurfing guests and I enjoyed to have them at home . I was lucky to be their last hostess in their European trip , so I could travel with them by mind and it was very interesting !
I hope we will have the opportunity to meet another time , here or in Canada ! Good luck for your job , each one !
i think that Gary and Mike stayed for 4 days it passed really fast, they appreciated that we were busy midweek and looked after themselves when needed. They managed to inspire my whole family to couchsurf, gary got bagfulls of Spitfire items from the local pub, made popcorn, drank a bit, looked after annother couchsurfer who popped up and generally were wonderful

Gary & Mike were great guests, shortly after arriving Gary washed up before making his tea :-) It was heart warming to see father and son travelling together and it is obvious that they make a great team. They were a pleasure to host.
Gary and Mike have been really nice surfers, their stay was far too short. Next time we'll go to Arras to explore the underground canadian barracks and the like...
We hosted Gary and Mike a great father and son team of adventurous travellers. They were very friendly conscientious and easy going people, a pleasure to host. We wish them well for the remainder of their trip.
Hey Gary, Mike :o)
Sorry took so long to leave a comment.
Didn’t get to meet Mike as he was at Glastonbury festival.
But, it was a pleasure babysitting his Pops, it really was like having a 3rd child in the house. :o)
Well what else can I say about Gary?
Well for starts I haven’t laughed so much in a long time, so thank you for bringing some long needed laughter into my house my friend.
Gary is a very friendly man, my boys enjoyed having him around & they loved listening to his stories.
Hope we get to meet up again one day, whether here or in The Netherlands.
Take care Gazza.

Gary and Mike were our first couchsurfing guests and were great. Mike was a real hit with our three children. He was also great at building furniture probably cos Gary is such a good supervisor. We thouroughly enjoyed them both and wish them well on their travels
What connects Scotland, Ireland and Canada? Gary McMahon! And he brings truth to the saying, "The luck of the Irish". Gary and son Mike are easy to be around with and they interact well with people and dogs alike - an essential quality in my household. Amazingly, they had as much gear with them for their trip around Europe as I have in my whole wardrobe! Enjoy Ireland, Bhoys.
