Giovanni Gueci

Giovanni is great! Even before meeting, just emailing each other, I understood immediately that he is a really trustworthy guy, friendly, intelligent and..he's a craic! :)) was a new experience to show around the whole bunch of people that came with him!! ahahah! you are the best, hope to see you very soon and definitely you and Vale are always welcome..whereever i'll be! :))

I was at Gianni's place during my trip by the Sicilia in March 2007.
Me and my friends(Ewa and Mattew) spent 3 days in Palermo with Gianni. It was a marvellous time!!! Gianni showed us the city, the sea, and told us about many specialities of Palermo and Sicilia, we tried all of them!
He introduced us his friend and we all have a big big time.
Thank you Gianni for this unforgetebul time,jazz concert, big sicily lemon, decious cannoli and especially for music :) So just repeating what everyone says about Gianni, he is a really splendid host and i felt very confortable with him !!!

:) I was prepared to host Gianni and his friend when they arrived but since there were 4 of them they decided to stick together and got a hotel. They did come over to say hi and I took them to a couple of local watering holes where we chatted about the US, Italy, the state of the world and random other funny topics. I steered them in the direction of things to see and do in SF but they already had a fantastic trip around the Southwest US planned out.

As he's smart, stimulating and funny I will definitely hang out with Gianni again when I'm back in Palermo. Maybe I'll bring him something funny from SF! ;)

 

I am so glad Gianni and Rebecca came to stay with us! They have so much passion for life (true Sicilian style!!) They not only cook dinner for us and our friends, but they packed me leftovers for a few days because they knew how much I LOVE Sicilian food!!! Thank you for the Ceramiche di Caltagirone luck charm.
I can't wait to go to Palermo and visit you guys, and I promise my Italian will be better!

 

Gianni and Rebeca are awesome! We loved hosting them. In addition to the new way of preparing mushrooms that Gianni taught us they are both really nice people. We took them out to some local bars and it was a great time! They had people cheering for them at the Shore Club! Possibly the best part is that my parents were also here and they are anti-CS, but meeting Gianni and Rebeca was perfect. Now they have seen what CS is about and what type of people are on it and they have been converted! THANK YOU GUYS!

Aaaah, Gianni!!!

Well, there was good and bad in his stay.
First the good: We got along great, he is very interesting, passionate, kind, funny, easy going and fun. We had a fair amount of email contact before he arrived. He made me a lovely pasta dish when he got to my home, was a pleasure to host. I helped him organize his upcoming visits to the national parks and he kept himself occupied while I was at work.
The only bad thing was that he only stayed for one night! :( It would have been nice to host him for at least 2 or 3 nights but he had his lovely girlfriend Rebecca come into town and I don't blame them for wanting a private hotel room for a night!
I would host them both in a heartbeat. A new friendship was definitely made through CS today :)

Gianni kindly invited us to the Palermo CS event. Though we unfortunately missed most of it, we were able to meet up with the gang for the aperitif. The traditional Sicilian concert was an extra bonus. Playing telephone SMS tag with Gianni also led us around Palermo to places we would normally have missed - such as Palacio Steri....Hope to see you again ! And thanks for all the effort !!

Had a great time at aperitif dinner. Thank you for introducing us to Sicilian music. Pity we miss the tour of Palermo, maybe next time...

Gianni is one great guy! He is so full of life and laughter and humor and curiousity and passion, and is so warm and easy to connect with. It was great to be a part of your little community of friends for a few nights in Palermo, I feel like I really got to meet some true, wonderful Sicilians. I really hope you come to Phoenix when you are in the states! It was so great to meet you!

I met Gianni when I was in Palermo and Gianni added some true Sicilian flavour to my trip! He is a wonderful person, so easy to talk to, so friendly and with a great sense of humour! And of course, how can I forget, he cooked the most incredible pasta ever, I am still having dreams about it until now hehe :-) Gianni, I will most certainly come back to Palermo and I hope to see you again!! Well...Gianni was really nice from the beginning!when you start to talk with him you can understand very soon how he's nice with people in general, talkative and friendly...I suppose he's a very nice host....if I went in Sicily for sure I would go to Gianni's place!!!!

 

..and finally i met Giovanni Gueci!! Many stories have been written and many stories have been told about Giovanni Gueci and i was SO courious to verify by myself! All is true! He is a legend = > host him (100% trustful!!!) , meet him, tell him but ..never ...never ... take him seriously!!!.. but he knows how to be reliabe. He is more than a Cs friend! About Paul??? He is my favourite Pollo :))) with love...

 

I met Giovanni with my friend Alessia for a coffee and we had a great chat! I can state he's nice and clever and I really hope to meet hime somewhere again :)

Gianni is the perfect host a wonderful guide and a great person!!!! My stay in Palermo couldn't have been better -well, yes... the weather- :-D

I spent with gianni some days: first time we had a very amazing party in Rome, and second time we had a great new year in taormina.And at the same time I can say I stayed with a totally fun person..great heart, easygoing and openminded...you must meet him to understand what I mean. He really have the right definition of couchsurfing philosophy, and I see myself in many things of him. A presto mpare!

Giovanni is a special guy, very very funny, he has a great culture and knows a lot about sicilian traditions and places. It is very interesting to talk with him and it has been a real pleasure to travel with him.

Oh, my Dazzling Husband! Doesn't matter if you want jokes, good food, a quick history of Palermo or just to chill with an amazing guy, Gianni is always right! My favorite memories including cuddling with him and 3 others in a small tent on a beach in Sicily, dancing to some Sicilian oldies and just joking from the moment we meet until the moment we part!

Giovanni is a funny guy from Italy. He told me many things about the differences between north and south and made me think about which type I am :) As he was italian I suggested to meet at cafe italiano which was also funny. Finally we had a lot of talking about life,parties,mediterranean. He brought me some pictures of Sicily which was unbeliveable beautiful, would love to see the country one day. Arrivederci !

Giovanni is just great!!! We met recently during his trip to istanbul for some drinks and had a lot of fun constantly laughing all the time:)) he is fun, friendly and he definitely has the couchsurfing spirit. looking forward to going to palermo to have much more fun time with him:)) kisses

i met him in istanbul at a small cs get together party..i liked the way he communicate with people , and he also laughes at me when i try to speak in italian..the italian people i know so far generally get mad at me when i mimic their language , he is the first one to understand the humor and luagh at it :) the pasta he cooked for us was really good.sooo, my vote for him is pozitiveeeattoo :P

We had such a windy but a beautiful day together(at least we survived in that hurricane;)),I enjoyed walking inside historical places with this nice sicilian..I wish he could manage to join us after Melek bar;) I would like to try some scilian language and culture if I pass through his life again;)..

we had 2 days together and very nice to meet an openhearted person as Giovanni. i enjoyed too much while we were talking for hours,although sometimes we could not understand each other :)very nice to talk with him.

A simpleton who doesnt look like one. A genuine person with a reasonable approach towards life.After all the chats I had with him, I could see that he belives in living life to the fullest and he is an enthusiastic soul. He invited me to join his amazing group of friends for Ferragosto and I had a blast. 'Te lo ricordi' Gianni :)

genuine simple (but definitely interesting and active) who really believe in the best side of this website, staying with him though just for an evening was enriching me, I could understand something of soul of palermo and I had a very good feeling in been hosted and talking with him! a very positive person, I 'll wait to see you in florence, to show you the gipsy side of the city?!

The world is really small...after having been in the same hostel in Salvador's carnaval but without meet each other, we met in crazy S. Fermin Fest!We surfed the same house and shared so good time, laughing, having fun, talking abou everything...travels life, sticchio philsophy, cultures...;) This crazy sicilian guy is a real friend, outgoing and an authentical traveller soul, see you soon in argentina, sicily or wherever around the world!

I met Giovanne in Palermo with some other couchsurfer friends.We immediately got on well.He is easy to talk to and has a good sense of humour too.I am sure we will meet up again and next time its my turn to by the drinks !

gianni was very kind to host us in his house although he already had another guest. he was a very friendly and lively companion, bringing us to the beach and even a jazz concert! it was a very pleasant stay with this warm and spontaneous person!

it was very interesting to meet giovanni and filippo, two siciliens very specials. we didn't spend a lot of time with them, but it was great... we hope to see them in sicily, but also anywhere in the world... they are super highly recomended!!!!

I host his friend Filippo.I met Filippo ad Gianni a rainy day in Toulouse, we have to lunch together and we have a typical toulousian mexican dinner with my friends! Gianni is a nice and funny couchsurfer! Good time with your game pim, pam , poum (or pim, poum, pam????) See you in Sicily!

We got first in touch through CS and exchanged a few emails about San Fermin. We could meet and go out during the first night of the festival with some friends, we pretty much went into every single bar/peña in Jarauta Street! We shared good conversation, Gianni is an interesting guy to talk to.

HEEEEEEEEY! I am still sad you couldn't host me after all... But I am so glad that we met on the both evenings I spent in Palermo, and I hope we can meet again, maybe in Sicily, maybe somewhere else! ;)

Guys~ this is a great guy!!! Helpful, talkative, funny, the soul of the group^^ Highly highly recommended to meet!!!!!!

 

Giovanni is an awesome guy! He has a great sense of humour, is so easy to get along with, is kind, generous and obliging. It felt like we'd been friends forever. Really, he's a champ! We shared some great laughs and I highly acclaim his cooking ; ) Can't wait to get back to Sicilia to visit. You'll have to come to Australia too!!!

 

Are you going to meet Gianni? Pay attention! You MUST have your abdominals muscles in training! (I went to gym 2 weeks daily before meet him) he can let you laugh for hours on end, even at 3am, sleeping at airport, after 3 days meeting, deadly tired. He also invented 3-4 new position in Tai massage. full of energy

 

I met him in Palermo and we spent one wonderful evening with him. We watched football (wasn't good match, but...) and he cooked the best pasta in my life. He is so funny, so nice and intelligent, that I'm very happy to meet him in my life. You are very welcome to Saint-Petersburg one day! ciao :)

Gianni, Gianni, Gianni, what can I say? He's a fantastic host. We laughed more in four days than I had in many months, even if it did mean I was occasionally attacked by apostrophes. He introduced me to all of his legendary Palermitani friends, we drove more than an hour away to get a special kind of bread and go to the overcast beach, we went to two soccer game parties, and (despite my feeble protests) we stayed out until after 4 in the morning for three nights in a row! He even made me pasta alla carbonara and helped me search the city for ceramic turtles and martorana (marzipan) fruits. Unforgettable. :D

Do be forewarned, however, that:
a) he has only ONE key to the apartment which means that if you come on a weekday you will be locked out from 8am - 5pm!!
b) any loyalties you may have to Napoli will be questioned, cross-examined, disputed, and systematically obliterated!

Gianni is one of my wonderful 'big brothers' here in Palermo and I couldn't ask for anyone better! i cannot immagine Gianni without a smile on his lips, a crazy joke, or the twinkling in his eyes when he starts to talk about Sicily! Always had the best time in his company and luckily there's still way more to come :D

Giannuzzo "U LIBANISI" is simple, joyful and always happy! He'll make you laugh a lot! it is always nice hanging out with him and playing! I think he is very heartful, out-going, easy-going and charming so he has the perfect spirit to be a great member of CS...So I consider him one of the best HOSTS here in Palermo! absolutely trustworthy...just have fun when you meet him

If the Ficuzza pikki nikki or any other CS meeting in Palermo had a soul, it would be Gianni’s soul!
He’s a good cook (fantastic his pasta salad) and tireless in organizing games and other activities.
I would recommend everybody to meet him at least once in life!

I met Gianni in the evening for one aperitif with other couchsurfers and guests!
He is a friendly boy and full of topic of discussion.
It is easy to speak with him and I think we will share other evenings together or maybe.. why not, a travel!

That last evening in my house after Pistoia Pizza Meeting i never enjoyed being together with other islanders like me since a long time! with our special sicilian instrument we can make walls shake...beware!

 

I met Gianni as a member of the Palermitani crew in the pizza meeting in Pistoia, and I enjoyed his positive energy and wit. Then I asked him for hospitality at the end of my roundtrip in Sicily. He's very aware of his Palermitano roots and I was curious to know more about Sicily. I enjoyed to know him better, he's very lively and has a strong temperament, and it's nice how he can bring life to a group. I'm thankful for his generous hospitality in his pleasant home, and most of all because he spoke with me about Sicily and his personal relationship with his terra, and because we went to the sanctuary of Santa Rosalia.

Meeting the Sicilians in Pistoia was real fun!!! The minute I met Giovanni and his friends it was lots of laughter and comparing countries since we are both from the South! A good guy to meet :)

Well for me GIOVANNI is a PALLEMMITANO' brother, great heart, funny boy and generous with the peoples!!

he came to istanbul during the wild stormy period..and it was soo cold and time was soo short,we spent 27 hours but we went to french street,i feed him as much as turkish food i can :) we cooked italian pasta(macaroni)and turkish pasta (cake) together with other couchsurfers,we went to semaver show,hanged around,breakfast,moda tour ...we were like bees:) meanwhile we talked a lot about many things and enjoyed every second!
i wished that i could understand italian because when he speaks,he does not only need words..but he needs his world,his language with those movements to express himself totally with soul and body ! i really look forward to seeing him in sunny day:)

He is an exellent companion! Very fun and cheerful and I would say profesional in hosting couchserfers! I'm really impressed! It was wonderful to meet you.

Only one word can describe this experience - WOW!!!

Gianni was so much fun. this friendly spirit is also, conveniently, a great cook! I only got the privilege of one night with him at Filipek's place, but he was such an energetic and fun guy to be around. Thanks Gianni.

We met twice in Barcelona and we shared a nice lunch in an indian restaurant. He is a very nice person with a great sense of humor!

Giovanni was extremely kind and friendly...A lovely person with a big smile on his face. Despite of not spending much time together we had a good chat, a lovely meal and good wine together..Perfect mix.:-)

gianni kindly made room in his apartment for me and my two travel buddies stay a couple nights in palermo. he is definitely into the guided-tour style of hosting with a whole itinerary all planned out... if that is your thing, then he is your man. he knows his sicilian food too: he led us to the BEST arancini of our two months in sicily! thank you!

Gianni, IL NIPOTE- the nephew, he wrote I am the uncle, but actually I am "the aunt" ;-) not in reality of course, this is just how we started our friendship many years ago. We live far away but we always find the way to meet up, London, Milan, Sicily...The world is such a small place when you want to meet that someone SO SPECIAL! So, I hope you guys will have the chance to meet this incredible guy once in your life, the best "guide" around Palermo and Sicily, the best mate, the person who will make your stay so pleasant and unforgettable!

Giovanni contacted me to host him and some friend but unfortunately i had already some guests in my flat, and it was completely full, anyway, we have met in Bairro Alto (Lisboa) and had a lot of fun. mmhhh...it's just a question of sparkling connection! U Libanisi, i.e. Baker, i.e. Gianni, has - along with all his smart nicknames - several nuances in his personality which make me think that he's funny, nice, interesting, reactive all in and I totally admire the 0000000000 expression on his mouth whenever you talk to him...

This guy is a really lovely person with a great sense of humour. He is the only person that you will find with a beers' pyjama.
Gianni and his friend Giovanni spent 4 days at home and it was so fun. They cooked for us a delicious typical italian dish and we went out together, he's a good dancer :P

There is something about him which instantly makes you feel very comfortable and affectionate. I feel very safe with him...mi senta molto sicuro con lui.

Gianni wow! We often meet in palermo and share good time together, talking, drinking... and recently we spent with my guests a very amazing evenings! Gianni is friendly, say always what he think, sure you enjoy with him... I'm glad to have met him and now I consider him a real good friend! We went in Spain together... fantastic trip!

I met Gianni in Palermo. He is kind and very smart. He showed me the historical area of Palermo. He knows so much about Palermo. He knows the history of every church there.
He is very interesting guy and I would love to meet him again.

When Palermo met Livorno in Barna is always a great OK! I spent with Gianni an easy but amazing 'noche brava' with my preatty jobmates-friends. We laughed a lot and had a good time!

Everybody has said it all 100 times, so let me try to give you a truly Sicilian reference : "Lu rispettu è misuratu cu' lu porta l'havi purtatu" Don't change !Bacini :)

Gianni will always find a solution to life's (i.e. your)problems. He will go out of his way to help you! He knows his city like the back of his hand and knows how to have a good time! If visiting beautiful Palermo, you will surely meet him as the CS community is tightly-knit there,everyone knows each other! But it's great, you get to know a whole bunch of Sicilians at the same time!

Me and my friend stayed one night in Gianni's house. :) We really enjoyed our stay and his company. He is very warm and welcoming guy. It was very interesting to communicate in 3 languages: English, Spanish and Italian. :) But we enjoyed it. I liked his stories about Brazil, Argentina and other of his trips. :) Thank you very much for all your help. :) Our visit in Palermo was great despite bad weather conditions.

After 30 minutes of homeless-ness, I was ready to throw in the towel and weep, but Alessandro and Giovanni showed up at the right time and put my worries to ease! His magnetic personality transformed my fatigue into energy. We had so much to talk and laugh about...he was my Italian teacher and a great friend. Unfortunately, circumstances had us parting earlier than expected...I do hope to see him in Sicily, eat all his food and drink all his wine! Hehe!

 

A CS friend asked me to host him... well that has been the occasion to meet an extraordinary person! The reason of his voyage to Genova was ot easy, but he was able to face it in a graet way, having the time to spend around, talking abuot our ideas and so on... he has a great respsct of friendship and relationship with people, a profound conceeption of "living" in places... what to say?
I was lucky in finding such a friend!

Giovanni is awesome!!! He has a constant smile on his face and is great fun to be around!! He has such a positive spirit and lives fully. I'm very lucky to have met him at the CS meeting in Palermo-- we had a great time together!! Hope to see you again!! :)

Gianni hosted us for several days in Palermo, a city he knows very well and we laughed a lot together, with Alicia and Toti. He took us to the best places of "li posto": the beach to look at the stars, the bar opened at anytime of the night and the morning, the restaurant where you can eat the best "produtti del mare", the shop which sells the best fromaggi and a typicissimo concerto. He is the real authentic sicilian man, who can explain the nuances of his culture and with who it is possible to exchange a lot; he has a big heart, a great sense of hospitality and generosity.

he is very friendly, nice person.he loves to be sicilian,and love speak about his land, but also like listen how the other person feel. we spend a nice walking- day toghether on montisola, and a nice car -tour in the evening.

Gianni is " mine COMPARE" i have know him at school, mine companion of bench.How many nights to talk, different problem:the woman , the politic,music,history,friendship and general people.All it changes for to remain all what before.

Gianni is a friendly and a fun guy. But when he puts his glasses on, he looks pretty serious though LOL. Very gentle italian young man and was trying hard to speak English with me (thanks Gianni, I appreciated it). We spent nice time together with some other Sicilian friends on the beach too. I would never forget the greatest fireworks that night! Thank you, Gianni, for your sweet hospitality

Gianni hosted me for 1 night and w've been together often during my stay in Palermo. I found on him the best of sicilian culture: warm, passional, emotional, strong character and believes, sence of family and justice.

Gianni picked us up from a restaurant after 3 nights in a car....We were in terrible condition and he was our savier!!!Thanks for that! Gianni, I like him. As a true Sicilian, Palermitanean he's got a big heart. As he knows his city and the surroundings so well it's a real pleasure to have him as your guide. Setareh, my travel companion, and I enjoyed a lot the time we spent with him and his friend Toti (they showed us to the nearby town Cefalù, invited us over for dinner, took aus to a Sicilian-openair-concert,...)

Giovanni is a very nice and responsible host. Although we had a little bit difficult to communicate, he was very patient to explain details to me. Although he need to work during daytime, he taught me how to find way back and where to visit. And plus he showed me around the town during night with his friends and the pasta he cooked was super delicious!

Me and my friends spent 3 wonderful days in Palermo with Gianni!!! It was a beautiful time. Gianni showed us the city, the sea, and told us about many specialities of Palermo and Sicilia, we tried all of them! Thank you Gianni for this unforgetebul time, you're really nice, charming person.
