Couch Available: Definitely! Preferred Gender: Any Max Surfers Per Night: 1
Shared Sleeping Surface: No Shared Room: NoWe have a couch and plenty of extra space. If for some reason our living room is infested with zombies put an air mattress in my room. I have a lot of space and hardwood floors. I live a 15 minute train ride or bus ride south of downtown (the Loop in local speak) in the northwest corner of Hyde Park on Chicago's Southside, a couple blocks from Barack Obama's house. Many of us here are connected in someway to the University of Chicago making this neighborhood a brainy corner in an urban setting. Marvelous it is. If you want to know more about the neighborhood, check out http://wikitravel.org/en/Chicago/Hyde_Park.
I live with one other student at the moment from South Africa. It's a big apartment and one roommate is missing meaning that there's extra room. Be welcome! Friends (79)

Personal DescriptionI live in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. I grew up not far from here and I am glad to live here after having spent two years in New Mexico. I like to travel and did quite a bit during high school and in the last two years, but now I am taking an indefinite hiatus from sojourning because there is so much to do in Chicago and the Midwest. Why go far, far away when you can learn a lifetime's worth of stories in your own neighborhood. I also like to ride my bike every day and drink beer. Sometimes I do both, usually not simultaneously however. I also play the fiddle and guitar and can hold my own on ten or so other instruments. I'm no expert though. I also run and canoe, ski and raft. I'd like to ice skate when it gets cold. All in due time. I love people and love life and hope to encounter a lot of both in the time I will see.
Oh, and here's the website of a band I played in when I lived in New Mexico:
http://www.myspace.com/appleminercolonyHow I Participate in CSHosting surfers, of course! And by planning and joining local CS events. I also surf from time to time as well.CouchSurfing ExperienceGoing on two years and I reckon I've hosted almost 25 different times and surfed just as many if not more and met another 50 surfers in the time I have seen. I have no regrets.Interests-Running (especially with others)
-Anything that involves ice or snow or a mountain (or a mix of the three)
-Acts of Loving Kindness and Compassion towards myself, my family and my communityPhilosophyI think this is something best talked about over a coffee or a beer or in a big group discussion at a CS meeting. So I guess my philosophy would be then, meet more Couchsurfers. A damn good philosophy now that I think of it...
But if you want some Bradley Williams philosophy on a platter, behold!
If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph:
The only proof he needed
For the existence of God
Was Music
Music, Movies, BooksAny book that Mortimer Adler included in his book "How to read a book"
Any album by Andrew Bird, Connor Oberst, Justin Vernon, Craig Minowa and many more. I also play klezmer and consider it one of my favorite genres.
Any movie.Types of People I enjoyI like people with diametrically-opposed opinions to my own as long as they are willing to share why they think the way they do and talk about it without getting offended or starting to think I'm a horrible person because I don't think the same way they do. Ad hominum arguments just aren't meant for Couchsurfing. Maybe a hotel bar but alas, we've moved beyond that.Teach, Learn, ShareWhat would I like to learn? If anything, why you choose to be a Couchsurfer?
I also have a pretty long list of other questions, but we won't get into that nowOne Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneHaving had the opportunity to live in peace, study what I was interested in, travel to where I wanted to go, and have had family and friends to support me and listen to my stories. It's more than I deserve but I am grateful for this blessing.
Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectThe internet is making the world a smaller, greener, and more friendly place. Couchsurfing is one of the best examples of that.Locations TraveledTRAVELED: Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Cuba, Denmark, Faroe Islands, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland (Republic of), Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Korea, Sweden, United Kingdom, Uruguay, Vatican LIVED: Czech Republic, Spain, United States WANTS TO GO: Armenia, Lebanon, Malta References
From Olly Rowlett Mullion, United Kingdom Oct 19 Positive Bradley is a super cool geezer!
after communicating on the prospect of surfing with him, we met at the huge couchsuring meetup for the midnight premiere of Where The Wild Things Are which was amazing! afterwards a few CSers and I piled in his car and we went with another carfull to IHOP for further conversation...
on my last day of being in Chicago we watched the animation movie "Astro Boy" together as part of the film festival...
I love how open and quickly wearing a big smile Bradley is, was great having hung out even though I never did surf with you...and your maturity seems to exceed your age, hope to meet again down the line :D cheers duder.
From David Keeling Buenos Aires, Argentina Oct 16 Positive He's a good guy and a good musician. Very hospitable -- he put up our huge band all at once. He's a good travelling companion, always has a story to tell and ideas for things to do.
From Aj Pi Austin, United States Sep 23 Positive leaps bldgs, carves intl peace, resolves centuries old religious tensions, cures undiscovered diseases, discovers uncured ailments, weathers every storm, immune to erosion, calculates faster than god, outruns any speeding villain, tosses armies aside with but a grimace, foils the most cunning of deviants, ... and he plays the fiddle too?
and just think, he does all this and more without a cape.
From Koremi Budapest, Hungary May 29 Positive I met Brad during the bike trip I organized to Szentendre, and he made a very positive impression on me as on open, intelligent and friendly person. I had a great time talking to him, and biking along the Danube together with him and the rest of our group. Such meetings prove why Couchsurfing makes sense.
From Sigrið Gyldenkærne Dalsgarð Torshavn, Faroe Islands May 2 Positive Brad is a very interesting dude from the states. He is stupid enough to come and visit us in the beginning of january!!! He went travelling NORTH in the winter, when everybody else wanted to go south. But we had a great time. With Settlers and some feet warming/fights. lol. Would be glad to see him again!
From Michael Guzman Lexington Park, United States Apr 23 Positive Brad was nice enough to let me have a room for three weeks while I toured Santa Fe and other parts of New Mexico. He is easily one of the most interesting people you will ever meet...the type of guy you can talk to about any subject for hours on end.
He has a great car and an even better band. You are sure to have a few stories to tell after spending some time with this guy.
I recommend staying with or hosting this guy if you have the chance...you wont regret it.
From Fabio Berzaghi Minneapolis, United States Apr 5 Positive As soon as I got there Brad dragged me to an outdoor film festival, which was great. Then we spent the night chatting and eating with his roommate. I think he's a funny guy with many stories and experiences to share. Be prepared to laugh a lot and go to bed late.
PS: he can also drive for 30 hours straight without EVER going to sleep. :)
From Eric Perry Davenport, United States Mar 23 Positive Though I never met Brad he really helped me out while I was in Santa Fe. I had my backpack stolen from the Ski Resort, when it turned up the next day I was already leaving town! He got it into the hands of someone going to Albuqurque and this person I also never met dropped it off to me! What a great community of people! Thanks
From Daniel Popp Jersey City, United States Mar 18 Positive Brad is a cool dude. Well travelled, worldly, and hospitable. He knew the area well and was very accomedating. He's part of a 22 piece folk band going on tour this June. Good luck man... and thanks for everything!
From ZACH709 Madison, United States Mar 17 Positive brads awesome. its was cool as hell talkin bout northern culture w/ him. cuz only someone whos been there would understand. he was a dope ass host 2. you should try n stay w/ him is ya can. wish you the best
From Scott Wiseman Loa, United States Mar 13 Positive Brad is one of my closest Couchsurfing acquaintances in Santa Fe. We are both ski instructors and see one another very frequently. It has been great getting to know him better. He is extremely well-traveled for his age and has a thirst for new adventures. We have the mutual goal of skiing every mountain in New Mexico. It has been a blast helping one another get better at skiing and sharing this amazing sport with others.
From Isa McKechnie Utrecht, Netherlands Mar 7 Positive Brad hosted me and my friend for one night and seriously I wish I'd had more time. He's incredibly talented and interesting.. he's also very modest - he knows many more languages than he has mentioned on his CS profile, I don't know why ;)
We spent an evening making music together, with a guitar and an accordion, and a mandolin, it's definitely been fun.
Hope to see more of him! He's bent on travelling again, a lot of it, so we may not meet again in Santa Fe, but whether it is the Netherlands (which I doubt because I intend to travel again too) or somewhere else, I'm sure it will happen!!
From Betti-Cola Canoga Park, United States Feb 13 Positive Though I only stayed for a night, I had the opportunity to talk to Brad until late into the night. He’s an interesting person who’s not satisfied with living a complacent life. I love meeting people who enjoy pushing their boundaries, and Brad is definitely one of those people. Good luck with The Apple Miner Colony and the Boston Marathon!
From Kolbeinn Tumi Dadason Reykjavik, Iceland Jan 27 Positive Bradley stayed with us for 4 nights over new years and was actually our first couch surfing guest in Reykjavik. Very relaxed and easy going guy. Had some good conversation at the hot pot and busted the dance moves at new years. Always welcome back!
From Diego Ferioli Reykjavik, Iceland Jan 23 Positive I'd recommend anybody on earth to host or surf at this kid's! He's ages far from being the average American, and he's astonishingly experienced and mature for being this young. He's got an awesome travelling experience and he is well used to meeting different cultures and learning new languages. I really wish I had spent more time with him! Great experience.
From RYLISA2008 Akureyri, Iceland Jan 23 Positive Brad is good people! We had a lot of fun hosting him and showing him around. A natural photographer and interesting dude. He had no problem meeting all sorts of interesting people including Miss Hawaiian Tropic Iceland - you'd be lucky to have him around!!
From Rachel_NYC New York, United States Jan 23 Positive I hosted Brad at my Chanukah party and then a considerably less fun Sunday night about a month later on his way home from Iceland. Brad is such an interesting and fun person to hang out with. I bet he's fun to travel with, too! I'll keep you posted about the Purim Party...you better not miss it!
From Sam Walsh Roseville, United States Jan 16 Positive Bradley is an enthusiastic traveler, photographer, and philosopher. He has quite a breadth of knowledge, so whatever topic you feel like talking about, it's likely Bradley will have thought about it before and engage in conversation with you about it. At 20, he has an insanely wonderful head start on life, having traveled to more countries than the number of years he's spent on this Earth. If you ever go traveling with this guy and find your crappy point-and-shoot camera missing, Don't Panic! Bradley will have a slightly better camera ...and tripod, and nice collection of lenses... ;) Definitely a cool guy you should meet.
From Josie McVitty Auckland, New Zealand Jan 13 Positive Brad was a lively member of our roadtrip gang! I admire his passion for photography, Santa Fe, and adventure. He's always up for animated discussions, and sharing thoughts on pretty much every topic, as long as it's not too "pretentious" :P. I look forward to cheering him on in the Boston Marathon in April for sure!!
From Simon Fölling Cambridge, United States Jan 13 Positive Brad's favourite occupation is schmoozing people! But don't worry, he is actually really a great guy. And don't be misled by his age - he has travelled more than your mother! And he'll bring back photos, as his almost unfailing (only occasionally misled by acute christmas decoration overload) instinct for photo opportunities is complemented by the willingness to lug tons of gear to the spot, under any circumstances and weather conditions, to create the perfect picture (That is, unless a nice bar interferes by being along the way).
Great experience!
(For the record, I only knew about at most one rock.)
From Traczie Bellinger Clifton Park, United States Jan 13 Positive He's a great guy to fall asleep next to in the last row of a plane to Iceland while we both watch a Sigur Rós documentary.. I regret to say I still owe him a beer though, which I fully intend to make up to him once he comes back to New York.
From Eli Catalan Austin, United States Jan 13 Positive brad is a very passionate guy. he will go to great lengths to share his strong feelings so that by the time the conversation has ended, you know more about the subject than ever before. i wish him well in the upcoming boston marathon and hope to be there at the finish sign waiving a banner that reads "Helvítis fokking fokk”
From Bjarki Dalsgarð Thorshavn, Faroe Islands Jan 12 Positive Brad is a great, talkative guy, and half insane, you have to be that if you come to the Faroes in the middle of winter, with only 5-6 hours light and stormy weather, I didn't expect anyone to request a couch the next 3-4 months, but he came and cheered everyone up here.
From ARJUN Lodz, Poland Jan 10 Positive brad promised this form takes 49 seconds to fill. 54, turns out.
he been places. & is an eager host.
From Katie Smith Searcy, United States Dec 30, 2008 Positive Brad was such a great host! He took us on a beautiful hike and introduced us to all of his rad friends. I would highly recommend spending time with this guy.
From Deborah Higgs Santa Fe, United States Dec 30, 2008 Positive Brad is a trustworthy and well mannered young man with a good vocabulary. He is great to travel with because he is a good conversationalist and he has a wide array of interests. I have watched a lightening storm with him in Missouri, rafted with him on the San Juan River in Utah, and visited museums in New York AND the Shed Aquarium in Chicago. He is a good driver.
From SPARTICLES212 Woodside, United States Dec 29, 2008 Positive I hosted Brad for 48 hrs while he was en route to Iceland. We fit quite a lot of stuff in those hours: Amazing Hanukkah Party; Costco shopping run; great Thai and Vietnamese food and an imprompty and crazy wee hour photo shooting spree in Midtown Manhattan.
A wonderful well rounded young man! Certainly hope to do some outdorsy adventures with him in NM in the near future!
From Iskundar Haddad Berkeley, United States Nov 26, 2008 Positive Put me up last minute in Santa Fe. Made me feel at home. Introduced me to great people. Thanks :)
edit: Oh, crap, I certainly did not mean to offend you or your friends Bradley, nor did i think I had forced you into anything, i thought i was merely encouraging the feeling that you might want to go to the party too! I'm sorry for being persistant! Had you only said something I would have changed my behavior and the night would surely have kept moving along regardless! I was, in fact, having a bit of a travel breakdown, having been on the road for 6 months, under super bad recent circumstance, and was a very weak and delirious version of my self when we met. I didn't know i was such a burden to you, for that, please forgive me, you were a gracious host.
My sincerest apologies.
From Dröfn Hilmarsdóttir Selfoss, Iceland Nov 25, 2008 Positive Brad is a great host and I had a really nice time in his (unfurnished) house with his roommate and a brand new puppy. He seems really eager to learn new things and is one of those people who truly enjoys the world and the beauty in it. A good treeclimber, respectful and nice. Looking forward to see you in Iceland!
From Mateo Ham Victoria, Canada Nov 24, 2008 Positive I met Brad while he was visiting my sister here in Victoria. Brad was a great person to have around and talk to. I'm really glad Brad got my sister, and through her me, started on CS.
From Larry Mynatt Cambridge, United States Nov 22, 2008 Positive Brad is the ideal CS member: he loves travel and languages and is keen to make new friends with travelers of like spirit. We had a great time meeting when I was in town for a conference and couchsurfing elsewhere. I hope we're in touch for a long time to come comparing notes on our travels, discoveries, etc.
From Zacch Fortner Santa Fe, United States Nov 16, 2008 Positive FADE IN:

No I'm telling you, if I could bottle and market Bradley's enthusiasm for CS I'd be able to travel first class and stay in 5 star hotels the rest of my life. He's...

It's hyperbole. No it does NOT negate the pupose of the couch surfing si... Wha..?

I enjoyed meeting Bradley and other CSers for a dinner gathering event he organized a week or so ago at Cowgirl. He keeps the Santa Fe group message board lively with questions and suggestions for extra curricular activities like organizing skiing/boarding events. He's willing to meet up with or host other CSers whether theyre from the next town over or from the other side of the globe. I'm looking forward to getting to know him more and who knows, maybe even some fell walking one day.
FIRST PERSON raising a fist above the head with a cheer
GO WAINWRIGHT!
Is this screenplay "bad" enough?
From Thijs Roes Amsterdam, Netherlands Nov 7, 2008 Positive Brad is just such a stand-up nice guy! He knows I hate leaving references like these, because people generally know whether I liked them. But here you go ;).
He's very friendly, extremely fun, adventurous and very passionate about couch surfing.
The time with him was interesting. And yes, he has negative points as well: He is the most paranoid person I ever met! Since he got slightly uncomfortable in everyday situations like when we got pulled over by the cops while breaking a few laws at the same time, and that one night when there was a completely nuts girls in his living room, calling him a "dumb fuck".
He didn't believe I would write this last part. I just proved him wrong. Screw you Brad, my stay with you was a blast anyway, and you know it! ;)
From Andrew Robotham Lausanne, Switzerland Oct 22, 2008 Positive I had a brief but fun fourteen hours with Brad. He is a fascinating and interested guy while his many travels and excellent general knowledge fuelled some very interesting discussions. Time got lost and after three beers discussing Europe, politics and cameras, an early rise gave us but a few hours to sleep. However the lost hours were more than worth it. Any effort or gesture of generosity on your behalf will be repaid double, with plenty of enthusiasm.
From RAKELTV Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 10, 2008 Positive How interesting it has been to listen to his stories and considerations about the most diverse subjects.
For sure he will always do his best to show you a good time! and if youre anything close to a language enthusiast you will be best friends...
håber livet er smukt i ørkenen....
From Christian Debbane Paris, France Oct 2, 2008 Positive Brad's place was cool,we testify that his plan for us worked out!
Cheers
From Thomas HERVOUËT La Roche-sur-Yon, France Sep 12, 2008 Positive brad has been so helpful

From LAETITIA-HK Kowloon East, China Aug 20, 2008 Positive Was my great pleasure spending a wonderful evening with Brad and Justin. They're one of those very positive people who take everything easy and at the same time enjoying whatever comes to their lives.
Brad's got a big heart for his local community and enthusiastic about the CS worldwide.
From Slowtraveler Santa Fe, United States Jul 30, 2008 Positive Enjoyed Brads company at a quirky restaurant the other night. Fun to talk to with great energy about him. He is a great addition to the Santa Fe CS group and I look forward to getting to know him in the future.
From Isaac Shaffer and Marguerite Hendrie Flagstaff, United States Jul 28, 2008 Positive Brad was so polite that he took extra time to come back to Flagstaff to take us to dinner rather than heading back to Santa Fe at a reasonable hour. (Or perhaps he's just crazy about driving late at night!) While we only had a few hours to spend with him, we feel him to be an intelligent and courteous fellow and we'd gladly welcome him again as a guest. Good luck with the rest of your summer semester.
From Dietrich Friesen Vancouver, Canada Jul 21, 2008 Positive Brad was a great surfer to have. he's very enthusiastic about the whole cs experience. sadly because of work we didn't get to chill enough. but we had a blast when we did, heck we got him (and nina) to stay an extra night. a totally positive experience.
From Mark Mullkoff Vancouver, Canada Jul 21, 2008 Positive Brad was planning on surfing our couch for one night on his way to Victoria, but ended up staying for two days and two nights. It was a busy time, but he fit into the mix quite well and seemed to enjoy himself. I'd love to hang out on the beach with him and his friend from Vic again and would, of course, host him again.
From Paul Gallasch Brooklyn, United States Jul 7, 2008 Positive Brad helped us see what we could of Sante Fe in the short amount of time we had. St John's was a fun place and Brad showed us a good time.
From Michael Lennon London, United Kingdom Jul 7, 2008 Positive Brad is an interesting guy. His interests are wide and he is very well read. His campus is pretty sweet too!
From Daaf Samson Utrecht, Netherlands Jul 2, 2008 Positive Brad was kind enough to host me last minute when I passed through Santa Fe. I was a poor guest, only passing through, but feel we made the most of the short time I was in Santa Fe.
We talked countless of hours about all things important in live over beers that seemed to just appear. :)
Kind man!

we met at a Cs meeting and the next day he came to a party at my place.
Really nice and chilled out guy.
From Alyssa Moran Conway, United States May 19, 2008 Positive I forgot his name, and then my traveling companion forgot his roomates name. it was a great start, haha. he opened up his dorm to us which was wonderful because we got to meet a lot of neat people. he got captured that night, but then got released and in the morning he took us on a hike that overlooked beautiful Sante Fe. it was grand!
From Caledonian_Celtic_Bhoy81 Balloch, United Kingdom Apr 6, 2008 Positive Met in Dun Eiddeann. Was one of trOOps that made it my best hogamany in a long time. Thanks man!! Were supposed to hOOk up in Glaschu but it didn't happen. Until next time!!!
From Aina Lindberg Oslo, Norway Jan 24, 2008 Positive Brad is a very social and easygoing guy. It was great having him as a guest in our home. He is surprisingly mature and confident for his age. Was great discussing languages and sharing language experiences with him. He is welcome back any time! :-)
P.S. Miss the beer prices, Brad? Haha ;)
From James Daykin Stockholm, Sweden Jan 19, 2008 Positive brad is a intelligent guy, we shared a few beers and a good conversation before he had to shoot for his train off on his wild travels.....if your ever in this neck of the woods again feel free to call mate
From Lucia Greco Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Jan 18, 2008 Positive Brad has an extremely cute accent in Spanish, dances salsa, knows lots about latino culture, and is so friendly you feel like hugging him all the time, so I give him 10 points in my book. and if he really thinks I'm cooler than Jorge Drexler, then I'll marry him! :)
From Hedvig Skirgård Sundbyberg, Sweden Jan 16, 2008 Positive Very nice and easy going guy, a pleasure to host.
From Jotikas Iruna, Spain Jan 13, 2008 Positive At Hogmanay, Brad helped me because I could speak spanish (and basque) with him. Really, is a very nice person; and he knew drinking with my "bota". GREAT!!! Sure, We'll met again in San Fermin, or in another great party!! yes!!!
