Steve was such a fantastic CS find. While surfing with a bunch of CS's in Lake Tahoe, Steve had plenty of inspirational travel stories to share. By the end of the night my overall excitement for Couchsurfing has doubled.

 

Steve is a true couchsurfer. It was great to learn about all his experiences with the program. He and Dessie definitely know how to give back, too. I can't wait to kick it with these two some more this winter. Hopefully they'll stay all year!

Awesome dude! Human beings dont come much better than this guy... very humble, very excited about life. We worked together for about 5 weeks never leaving each others sight so we gain quite an insight into eachothers views and thoughts on life and all that it entails. If you get a chance take a moment or more to get to know steve!

Steve is a great guy! I had a blast chatting with him about anything and everything over dinner. A great conversationalist. He was very respectful in my tiny apartment. He also did my dishes. I hope to see him again someday. Steve: Only one puppy is alive.. thanks for asking, the other was ran over by a car.

Steve was brave enough to explore Jamaica in every deep way. He is a kind, happy, amazingly polite globetrotter! Maybe one of the few real gentlemen left in this world. It was a pleasure to meet you, Steve! =) Happy trails!

It was great to meet Steve and host him for a couple days while He was in Kingston. Unfortunately I was in the middle of a crazy time at work and we didn't get to hang out as much as I would have liked. Steve is welcome to surf my couch, wherever my couch is at that moment.

And... of course you have to start your studies in Europe (before it becomes too expensive there too!!! :) )

Steve is a great surfer and a really cool guy. He stayed with my friend Gavin and I in Kingston and he fit in with ease. If all surfers are like him then I will have no problem letting them stay. Also had fun up on Blue Mountain peak and met again in Negril a week later.

Wow! Steve! There is no way to effectively convey how magnificent this particular individual is. Steve is self-sufficient, independent, funny, sociable, polite, decent...a perfect gentleman if you ask me. We went up into the mountains with mutual friends and I am happy that I got this chance to see Steve in his element. Did I mention that his conversational skills are impeccable? He is a great listener. He was so thoughtful, helpful and he even warmed Pork and beans for me! He is quite the Humanitarian with his heart of gold and his future intentions to heal the world. I learnt that he is unselfish, smart and a damn good friend! Steve, you make me hungry too...I hunger to be as amazing as this guy! You are welcome in Jamaica and on my couch any day! Anytime! Steve was a very polite, funny, and easygoing--everything you could want in a guest. Full of interesting stories and odd tricks :) He is so enthusiastic and open, I think he can have a sincere connection with anyone. Do host him on his epic roadtrip, or wherever his adventurous spirit takes him.

 

Finally I've met the infamous Hungry Steve, and he is every bit as cool as I'd heard!! He warmly welcomed Keith and I to his super-swanky pad in Taos, and even made us coffee and waffles in the morning. Fantastic to meet you Hungry Steve!!

Steve, what can I say. You came to Taos with a job ahead of time. Clearly you are a man of intelligence and fortitude. It was great having you keep the couch company. Come by any time.

Steve's not at all as animal as the impression you might get from his pics. Ok – he likes booze. But he doesn't get wild from drinking and not even that sleepy ;-) He stayed up for 44 hours at the EU CSC!!! Apart from that he's a great guy to talk to. That's what he actually does when drinking (!) and with a great positive attitude, too. No wonder that for the whole 5 days I stayed at the Eisenstadt Collective I constantly saw him in one corner of the school building or surroundings or another talking to one or some - or listening to what they had to say. Mostly in the company of a bottle of wine and yet never failing to appear focused and genuinely interested in what the other(s) had to say. And he himself always gives you the impression that he means what he says - no matter if that's some silly nonsense just for the fun of the chat or some deeper thoughts which he keeps for the somewhat even more interesting talks you can have with him. AND he's one of the few guys who can always correct you without ever being a wise ass! That alone was a great help when he came with Sonja and me to prepare the scavenger hunt for the EU CSC and in addition to this his joyful and happy personality plus his often very cool sense of humor added very much to the fun I had doing that organizing hike for almost a whole day! I had hoped to see him again soon but so far it didn't work out. I have no doubt we'll meet again some time somewhere - and you should consider yourself lucky if you can do likewise!

I met Steve while we were sleeping in the same house. Steve is such an easy guy to get along with and is able to build rapport so quickly that I didnt even realize he was a couchsurfer for the first day or two I knew him- I thought he was just a friend of our host! We went bowling, drank beer, and talked about how to build fires in the woods when its raining among other topics. It was all thoroughly enjoyable, and I would reccomend Steve's company to anyone. He also has a really sweet beard. Have fun in Idaho, Steve!

Steve surfed my couch in Eugene for a few early Spring days. He was awesome, independent, and a great addition to our house. Have fun man!

dude was awesome, I really enjoyed having him at our house. He hung out with my friends and was extremely insightful and intelligent. He's more than welcome to surf our couch again ! ! ! !

 

Steve was a great guest to have. He was very respectful and easy-going. He was down for whatever was going on and had no problem entertaining himself when we were off doing other things. I really appreciated his insight and positive attitude, and he's welcome back on our couch any time. Have fun on the trails, Steve!

Steve was gracious enough to host us at the last minute in Portland. He and his roommates fed us the best pizza ever and brought us to a hip club for drinks and some interesting dancing. He was nothing but classy and cool and I really hope to see him again!

Steve was more than welcoming to me and my friend for our one night in Portland. He was extremely hostpitable and friendly. His roommates were awesome; we all went out as a group to a bar the night we were in town. He's a great host, I genuinely hope to see him again.

Come to Asia!

I've lived with Hungry on two continents. In both situations I found that my respect and admiration for him grew daily. It's no overstatement in my mind to say: HS is one of the best humans I know. He's so playful (like a kid) so wise (like a grandfather) so Sweet (like Coffee Haagan daz ice cream) And so very awesome in all other ways that I've decided we should have kids together one day!!! But you know, in the right way. No red headed babies!! I adore this guy. And I miss his ciggie smokin' whisky drinkin' badassness daily.

 

It was so fabulous to finally meet Steve and a real honor to get to help celebrate his birthday. He is funny, low key, accepting, and kind. In my opinion, how much better can it get? He's also helpful to have around if you want to know what an "A line" dress style is - he's a man of many tallents, if you will. He is also willing to act as a coat, should you be cold and stuck in the rain. Who could ask for more?? I really look forward to our next visit my friend.

we spent nevertheless enough time w/ each other in the last months to create a friendship: who else, again, would run down a hill to provide girls & beers for me in the middle of the night / cut up his beard to share "male energy" and walk into the woods for hours to find a camping place with a turtle?!
...just don't sleep so much, there needs to be more of you!

Hes got a big big brain above that bright red goatee, and Im fully confident he will take over for St Francis and Dionysis as the Saint of Nature and Wine. Id definitely worship him. I really enjoyed couple of talks we had especially the one on how we should implement methods that would fit gifted young kid. i guess you definitely have already a good experience in this matter. hope to see you sometime in the future. the quicker the better!!

I am sure, this sounds redundant, but I have to say it anyway. Steve is just a great person, very easy to talk to, warm, funny and kind-hearted. He's the kind that can make you feel like you've known him forever after a couple of minutes conversation. I hope nothing will change his spirit..

 

Steve is one of my best new friends! He is so gentle. You can't help but feel really, really good when you spend quiet moments with him, mulling over important life events... or the world in general. He great at dropping some bomber insight... stuff that makes you ponder. Now if only I can show him how great being vegetarian is... lol... big hug Steve!

He is the guy you will always find holding some meat when drinking a beer... or if he isn't it means he is planing to.
He is always surounded by people who have a blast and happy to be here (around him).
Why?

Being around Hungry Steve makes me happy! He has a gentle soul and a genuine talent for enjoying life to its fullest. Steve also knows how to have a rockin' good time - which is a great reason to let him crash on your couch - and I can't wait to share rum and hugs with him again!

one of the greatest people on the planet! he has such a huge presence wherever he goes. i was lucky enough to have him in my life for the last few months during which he taught me so much about myself and living life. he also taught me the way of the pie...an unforgetable experience!

It's like he says in his profile, you just can't sum him up in a couple of sentences. He's stayed with me twice now and was the first couch surfer I met. Wow. Talk about great first impressions, he's just SO HUNGRY.

Steve is one surprise after another. He's beyond enjoyable to talk to and filled to the brim with incredebly usefull and interesting information. Everyone needs to meet this man!!!!!

Im really sad that I couldnt host Hungry Steve, but it was cool that i actually got to meet him and his friends. really nice cool guy.

 

Hungry Steve is one of those magical people whose gentle, giving nature make him very easy to have in your life, he is very funny and has a cool take on everything. Sharing even a day with him is amazing.

 

Wow, I just love Steve. He just has a good heart you can see beaming from a mile away. He's such a positive person, you can't help but grin when he's around. Honestly, he raises the smile factor in any room. Plus, I have to admit, I love a good adjective for a first name! I love the philosophy behind it too!

Steve is a top dude. If you're ever stuck for a place to sleep, ask him about the spot under the bridge. He's welcome to surf my couch any time.

Oh Steve! It was too short this time round! I'll catch you later. This man lives up to his name, which is hungry Steve. He's not always hungry for food, but for life itself. Its is contagious and I'm loving it. See in the great white north.

 

Hungry reminds us of who Lord Byron might have aspired to become were he utterly kind-hearted or- perhaps- Hunter Thompson were he a socialist/humanitarian.

Given to mad bouts of excess and alleged depravities only whispered about by people in dark alleys, he is the essense of kindness, consideration and compassion and welcome in our lives anytime and anywhere.

Steve was voted by his graduating class both as "Best Guy to be Shipwrecked with" and "Guy most likely to Eat Human Flesh".

 

I spent with this guy some very great moments, shared deep conversations, funniest moments, and a fantastic night staying awake just talking, laughing, drinking and waiving the sun. We share some ideals, some dreams, and I really enjoyed discover the soul behind the crazy face you first see ! Steeve is a mystery and an explanation, a deep and simple man, a mystical but accessible person. The more I know him, the more I realize there is more to know :)

Hungry Steve wants to hug angry punk kids and make them happy. How could you not love someone like that??!!
He loves puppy dogs and pies, and his smoking jacket. He is, in fact, one of the coolest, sweetest and very best people that I know. I heart Hungry Steve, and feel super blessed to count him as a good friend

 

Here's my theory on Hungry: there was a celestial mixup and both Fonzi and Budda were reincarnated in the same body. No other way to explain it. Super cool and wise. Every time he gets that twinkle in his eye, I know something sweet is going to happen next. Awesome.

steve is a wonderful person. he is warm and lots of fun. a big heart , full of stories, a great listener also, relaxed and a very accomplished partier. we wrestled on Xmas day - he won the first round.

Steve is great to have around to find stuff. And fix stuff. And for breakfasts for champions. And doing collective things . Steviebear really has heart of gold and is awesome surfer & friend - I'm SO happy he's around the collectives, to make stuff happen that should happen. Can't wait to spend some more quality hangout time before the Kiwi collective ends.

 

Hungry Steve is quite like no one else I have met.....free, happy and absolutely adorable, I have found that he is an honest guy who will address and talk about things that others don't, has a fantastic ability to help folks out and taught me to use the grill!!:)He ALWAYS has a smile on his face and loves puppies(yay!) and has the ability to integrate himself into the local scene wherever he goes. He's an incredible guy, don't miss out on him.

We had the utmost pleasure of housing Hungry and his merry band during orientation week. Great guy with a equally great beard, what more can I say?

Hungry Steve is an awesome dude. He parties hard. I met him the first time when he stayed with my mates in 2006, and met him again in 2007 when he stayed with my mates again. He chained a freshman to a keg. Good times!

Finally met in person yesterday... He helped me navigate my first day driving from the right side of the car and the left side of the road... way cool... and figure out the recycling center and all the fun surprises it holds...

You know those people that you meet, and you're almost instantly like, "Yeah, this person is the shiznit. I think I'll hitch-hike to Christchurch with him." That's Hungry.

 

We met in Montreal, & that was just the start. I was impressed by Hungry when we met, & my respect for him has grown. He has one of the biggest hearts that I know. Just listen to him talk about walking puppies & you'll understand. He has such a calm & relaxed way about him, & he has more to say in the silences in between words than most people I've met. I hope that Hungry is always in my life, because he's wonderful. We've got 2 hemispheres under our belt, & I hope we keep meeting up in the world. I know there's more HungrySteve to follow, & that couldn't make me happier. He's a true friend, & a gorgeous soul.

 

Hungry Steve spreads warm energy where he goes. Shows appreciation, tolerance, curiosity, is full of great ideas and motivation to change the world to a better place with all his power. I'm glad I've met you, Steve!

Hungry Steve kicks ass... even though he's such a huge advocate of eating meat-- I'll let it slide, since he also likes a lot of my vegan food. Steve is a complex person, with a big heart, a good speaking voice, and a desire to see and learn new things. Very positive!

HungrySteve is like a perfectly cooked steak on a BBQ. Slightly burnt but with a real rich taste, that goes well with a cold beer. However he is tender on the inside with a soul that will melt your heart. (did I mention juicy) Seriously Steve, Whisky drinking, poker playing, cigarette smoking buddies forever!

 

Steve is a most excellent armchair philosopher and he knows how to give a decent hug. The couch was sad when he left.

Steve is one of the most memorable people you will ever meet. He is very deep. If you sit back and listen, you will learn much. The most important though is his ABSOLUTE dedication to CS. He is Dedicated to making this thing work. It isn't about free travel. It is about the friends that you meet and keep. If you could bottle the essence of couchsurfing, Steve would be in the bottle.

Steve has an amazing energy, hes genuine, compassionate, fun to hangout with,and has time and respect for everyone. An open sweet soul.

 

Great Guy!! We have great time together at the CSC! It was Like My Family with you all..He is Really a Very nice person to talk to and funny at times! Ode To Steve Vol 2.1 (beta). STEVE ROCKS!! Go meet that well-grounded dreamer and be inspired. He's larger than life! Steve is a full time appreciator of people, music, art, and so-called weird thoughts. He's good for air-conditioned museums as well as for any weather, including being fully soaken and half-blown off the bridge in a thunderstorm. ...did I say he's FUN whatever you do together? When he comes to you, show him an open door, and if you can, a river and a campfire. ________Hard facts: I hosted Steve in June 2006 for two nights, and at the days we had so much fun together that we just couldn't help meeting again for another three good times in June and July, then again at the CS Collective in Eisenstadt. Even though he's left Europe now, there's no doubt we'll stay in close contact, for Steve is a faithful soul of a rare calibre.

 

I am a big fan I am of Hungry Steve. Hes an all work no credit type of personality. I strongly admire this and you should too. The world is too full of credit, titles, and prestige. Its good to meet someone just wanting to get stuff done to no end even if it means no reward in sight. I double vouch for this guy. He's everyones favorite party animal!

This guy's awesome. We had this random chat about random stuff -some really interesting stories. I wish he had stayed longer. He even drank the can of Tasman Bitter I found under the couch. If you know this beer,you'll understand that's impressive.

Hungry Steve is a great guy. Two things that impress me about him are his easy-going happy nature and his fabulous orange beard which is currently going through a sort of Eyptian, King Tutt kind of phase.

Didn't really talk to Hungry Steve much as was just there to shoot a few interviews and get some pics. Disappointed that he wasn't eating at the bar tho, so didn't really live up to his name ;-)

Steve is also a couchsurfers' couchsurfer he is an all around soild guy and certainly a great guy to have for any outings/adventures and I happy to know that he is helping to formulate the future of couchsurfing. We met in Pioneer Square(very fitting).

Steph stayed the night and he is the person could take home to meet your mother,well mannered, trustworthy, and polite.

Yo this here dude from Michigan SO gets it about life and exploring the world. It just took a few days hanging out around him at the Montreal collective and I was like "I need to hang out with Hungry Steve again". This guy can take on any task, gets it done in the most relaxed manner you could imagine, and never asks for a medal. He's just a pleasant guy to be around. Addicting!

Steve is a wonderful couchsurfer with an apparent hunger for travel and adventure. We had some awesome conversation over coffee and his passion for travel is inspirational! please host him so he doesn't have to sleep outside!

 

It's amazing how much I like Steve in person considering I used to roll my eyes and delete his posts without reading them.
I was surprised that even though I spent so much time with him I didn't get sick of or annoyed with him. That's rare!
He's considerate, respectful, entertaining, interesting, open, accepting, frank... If I'm real then what is he... like, suprareal?!

I initally met Steve at a small London meeting...we didn't chat too much, but he seemed like good fun. During the collective, I got to know him much better and can say that he's really a great guy. Has a lot of heart and anyone would be privlidged to get to know him. Hope to see you soon Steve!!

Hungrysteve is hungry for all things: food, life, stories, friendship. And he's such a warm, kindhearted person that I had no problem feeding that hunger.

 

Steve is the person that surprised me the most at the Collective. At the beginning I thought he was one of those guys that just want to have fun, then I begun to realise how deeply sensitive a person he is.He feels everything around him, he is really "hungry" as his name says. Hungry for new experiences, new adventures, new friends.I hope he will always remain so real and pure...

 

The side I've seen of Steve is the one that tells you he's here to enjoy life, and for sure he does :-) For sure he's a great guy to laugh and party with!

More seriously he is an interesting guy in his own way... I feel like Hungrysteve lives in his own bubble and slightly weird perception of reality of life... maybe he just sees more about it all than we do? We traveled to New Orleand then to the Padre Islands, lived in the same town and drank many a beers and drove around the UPper MIchigan, a great man indeed

 

Hungry Steve rules hard, he's down for whatever and knows what he wants to do. He may look homeless but don't the beard fool you, he's goin places.

Steve and I both arrived to Montreal's Collective at the tail end of the operation. He swung aboard ship like Yellowbeard, helping organize with a piratical enthusiasm the gang's departure from Montreal. HungrySteve's appetites draw from deep wells of altruism and engagement with the human experience, and I hope to run into him again somewhere on this strange little planet.

Its not often that you meet a guy as genuine and real as "Hungry Steve". He added to the collective tremendously, and helped Eric and I discover real truth.

I m happy I met Steve at the Eisenstadt Collective. I´m looking forward to stay in touch , and eventually further discuss and develop ideas such as for example nomadic lifestyles.

 

Steve fits all the archetypes of party-animal, intellect, and cool chill out friend. There are some people with whom one can have brutally honest conversations (about anything) without either person becoming emotionally upset (or offended), Steve is one of these guys. There are no walls between Steve and the rest of humanity.

Steve is a great person. Funny chearful person with a great outlook on life. Really enjoys a good time and is great to be around with.

 

Don't let his goatee fool you! Steve is capable of having 13 simultanious thoughts in his head and he sometimes talks accordingly. Listen closely, because what he says is either very interesting and intellegent, or hilarious! Steve is a great guy in my book. He's welcome at my place anytime. If you meet up with Steve, be prepared for a great time! Oh yeah... ask him about the lifelike silicone goat! :-)

 

He certainly didn't overstay his welcome. He stayed at my place just one night, and I definitely wouldn't have minded spending more time with him. A gentle and engaging and enthusiastic spirit.

Okay Steve was the first couchsurfer to ever reach our remote place, so many thanx for that!
My roommates and I were really pleased to welcome him, especially as it was on the weekend we had our housewarming party, even though he had just made a tiring trip!
Otherwise, he is a really calm guy, friendly, funny, open-minded and with ambitious ideas.

 

Steve is great! During our stay in Austria I learned many things from Steve. Quite a few of them might be inappropriate to mention here (I'm not mentioning the turtle), we had a fun beard-off. Despite the fact that this dude might come across as being completely crazy at first, it is easy enough to discover that there is a mind working behind the deceiving exterior. Steve, I see my country is on your 'want to visit' list, when can I expect you on my couch?

although (or is it because?) this little raspberry donut sometimes seems to live in an interesting version of reality he is one of those people whose company i really enjoyed both in eisenstadt and vienna... he's always up for some good fun... plus he's gonna be a multi-millionaire really soon because he has some excellent and very unique business ideas :) but maybe you should consider changing you nickname to thirstysteve... just because...

 

Wouldn't take you a lot of time to understand that Steve is a wonderful guy. Strong discussions and insights that moved me all with rough and unfiltered honesty. Even in very long tired nights Steve did maintain his politeness and intellect! Waiting to meet him again!

 

Steve, my buttfukin' buddy.... we left you somewhere on the Konstance lake in Switzerland after 9 days of total frenzy in Austria and Switzerland. You're cool man and I'll remember forever those moments walking in Vienna looking for the others, laughing in front of the "Orange club" with our kebabs or somewhere in a german rest area.
You deserve absolutely the silicone goat production number n.01 :)

The moment I saw Steve at the Collective in Eisenstadt I knew I met a great guy. We got on really well from the beginning. After the CSC he decided to surf my couch for some days before he flew home. I'm sure it wasn't the last time we met on this planet :-)

Me and Steve have been great friends for a long time. In college he always welcomed me as a freshman and made sure I had a good time. We got to travel together for a couple weeks too. Through experiences good and bad Steve would always make the best from what he had and always had a smile on his face. Steve is a great friend and an excellent surfer. Host him, surf with him or travel with him for a guaranteed good time.

 

Hungry? Or just plain greedy? Or neither?!
I hosted Steve for three nights, and it was a fantstic weekend.
My flatmates showed him the delights of snooker, we went to see The Henge, and made March 4th officially OMLETTE DAY!
Steve is such a great funny nice guy to be around... makes we wanna go see his campervan in Germany!

We really enjoyed hosting Steve. He was enthusiastic about everything and had lots of interesting ideas. Enjoyed watching vikings fighting together and seeing a local rock band in a pub, and chatting about many sustainability issues. He left me with a great book about hitchiking and squatting which i'll happily pass on to someone who's interested (or post back to you Steve?)

BettaBuy Beer!!! Steve managed to learn a vital lesson when he stayed with us, 22p per can of Morrison’s beer isn't as good a deal as it first presents its self as!!! (We still have one can left!) Steve's a great guy who is welcome back anytime, and me and the guys hope he spreads the concept of the warm-down throughout his travels!

Steve is an easy going type of person. Steve was the first person I have met through HC or couchsurfing and he seems to be really good person. Him and his friends were more interested in seeing the culture of New Orleans than being the typical tourist of New Orleans. After sharing a couple of drinks with him I gather that he is a respectful person who tries not to inconvience others. I just wish I could of offered more help as I work a lot and as he has said himself, New Orleans is town were you just go with the flow of things. Good luck with your future travels.

 

A soulmate, no doubt. Steve is so much like me in that he takes people seriously and for what they are. But he, specifically is intrigued and enthusiastic... and manages to contain such good faith in humanity... something many have lost. Well for Steve, this faith continues to grow. He finds the best in people sets an amazing example for others. Its hard for people to inspire me, but certainly did... and reaffirmed MY personal faith in humanity. We exchanged many emails and hit it off immediately. I was in Seattle and we missed spending more time together, but the time we had (when he drove me to the airport and had some juice-3 hours or so) was filled withAMAZING energy, excitement and conversation. We exchanged our lives and our stories so intimately and so EASILY and genuinely that I knew... ahh... he one of those few soulmates that I will have in decades to come. An absolute star! I CANNOT wait to be in your company again darling! It's hard to belive that these connections are possible, but they are soo possible. we are still in close touch. I'm seeing him again in august!

Such an amazing mixture!! Steve is a lot of amazing things all mixed together! My friend Andrew and me really laughed a lot with him,we had so much fun. Anyway we didn't only drink beers together but also had more serious talkings about things we have in common.
I meet him in Seattle where he slept on the floor to offer us his room, it was so kind...and i met him again in his hometown, Marquette, where we had such a great time in front of the fireplace!
I loved to see him twice while i was in the US and...this guy is so cool!

Warm-Down!!! Steve came and stayed with us through my housemate and I'm glad he came. We showed him the delights of a night out in leeds and then carried the drinking on outside our house until all the alcohol had gone, he was a great couchsurfer and I hope he comes back some time!

the biggest god damn burrito i have ever seen. Steve took me out for the BIGGEST GOD DAMN BURRITO i have ever seen or attempted to eat. needless to say, i did not finish it. then we enjoyed some beers down at a local establishment. i really enjoyed meeting up with my new friend steve. his adventuresome spirit and openmindedness were quite refreshing. i really hope to join up with him on his germany trip next summer and we can rock out togther in europe. if you have the chance, stay with Steve in Seattle or Michigan or Germany or wherever he will be. he really understands the point of this website and is a great host for a weary traveller.
