Groups I Belong ToCouch Information Couch Available: Coffee or a drink Preferred Gender: AnyIMPORTANT! READ ALL THIS CRAP BEFORE REQUESTING TO SURF WITH US!!!!
We (Brad [MUSUR] and Andy [ANDREWEXTRAORDINAIRE]) have just moved into a new flat. We live in Brookline, using the T (metro system) we're about 10 minutes from the center of boston. we're just a few minutes walk to the T, so getting around will be easy. we all work and all have varying schedules, so unfortunately there are no gauranteed grand tours of the city, but believe you me - we are a lively bunch and you're pretty much guaranteed to have a good time.
here's the CATCH: we want people to stay a MINIMUM of three nights. this is because we want to get to know our surfers and hang out with them - one or two nights, and we feel like we just had strangers stay, not cool new friends. make sense? p.s. gracious guests get major points!
We get a lot of requests. I much prefer to host those who take the time to read profiles - those interested in meeting people as apposed to those just looking for a bed. As an experiment, I'll say that you have a much better chance of being hosted if in the subject line of your email you write "drunken turtles smell no easter eggs" - or some derivation thereof. That way i know you read my profile. One can expect a reply usually within a day or so either way. If it's a last minute thing, give me a call at 678-592-6008 - but use this ONLY as a last resort.
finally, (and i hate that i even have to mention this now, it never used to be this bad) if you plan on copying and pasting your message - and it's easy to know - save yourself the 15 seconds and move on to the next profile that has 'yes' for their couch availability. it will save ME the 15 seconds to decline your request. Thanks so much guys! Friends (241)

Personal DescriptionI'm Eli. Originally from ATL (dirrty dirrty), spent four amazing years in the capitol of horrible drivers (aka Providence, RI). I felt like i was moving too fast, that i could have woken up and been 50 and not checked off anything on my life's great 'to do' list, so i picked up and went backpacking in Europe for over a year, couchsurfing most of the way. I met some amazing people and once had my underwear ripped by an english girl trying to give me a wedgie. Now i'm back and starting fresh in beantown, mass, home of the cheez doodle... (could be true, i dunno).
i'm a genuine guy. relaxed and stress free... i'm also wrinkle free, like the cotton. there's no room or reason for drama in my life. i'm very comfortable meeting strangers and usually end up making friends pretty easily... i'm one of those people who turns a potential fight into another round of beers. i believe in constant and never ending improvement. i'm not a huge fan of consumerism or materialism. i try to avoid "-isms" in general. matters of and on the surface i treat just as such. i'm a traveler and a visionary. i believe i can accomplish anything and refuse to ever feel trapped. my life is in my hands. i like sandwiches, surprising people, and a good beer every now and then. i'll be exploring boston this year and connecting with as many incredible people as possible. i like to write but i read slowly... like oh-my-god-why-hasn't-he-turned-the-page-yet slowly. i laugh at stupid jokes and never talk about people behind their backs (unless it's good).
I'm extremely gullible. I'm not tall, but not so short either. I laugh often, usually at myself. I love hiking, biking, swimming, and folding laundry, though not at the same time of course (well there WAS that one time, but my clothes got all wet). I like hearing new music and stories from all different sorts of people. I like oranges and fondue. I am very supportive of the couchsurfing mentality of trust and honesty towards fellow travelers. I'm writing a blog about my trip through Europe, you can check it out at http://www.travelblog.org/Blog gers/Eli-Barnes/
All my travel photos are there, too.CouchSurfing ExperienceI've surfed quite a bit as I traveled through Europe and i've attended a few meetings, too. I have hosted lots of travelers in spain and I am finally stable enough to host again here in Boston. (that's stable geographically, not mentally).InterestsA traveler to the core. I enjoy adventure, including but not limited to cliff jumping, rock climbing, fireworks, running, doing things that make me stretch inside, trespassing, buying second-hand everything, sticking up for people, standing my ground even if it's shaky, expanding my vocabulary, writing, spontinaity, surprising people, reading, eating til i can't eat anymore, driving, getting lost in an unfamiliar place, going out, people watching, being friendly for no reason, walking outside of the boundaries of my city map, singing in public, listening, growing, a well aged cheese, and perforated edges.PhilosophyThe world is here to be explored. Sometimes good people can make a bad place seem like paradise. Life is 10% what happens, and 90% how you react to it. I believe we are stronger than we think we are and we are never alone. be yourself and know that good people gravitate towards eachother.Music, Movies, BooksUsually independent films, among my favorites: Fight Club, the incredibles, Y tu mama tambien, the game, lost in translation, starcrash(!), garden state, crash, oldboy, tim burton, alfred hitchcock. Music: I am always open to expanding my musical horizions - coldplay, guster, stevie wonder, counting crows, the killers, marvin gaye, regina spektor, zita swoon, motown, chill-out, acoustic, folk, pop, hip-hop, independent singer/songwriters. Books: shell silverstein - the missing piece, ayn rand - atlas shrugged, orson scott-card - ender's game, alduous huxley - brave new world, the perks of being a wallflower.Types of People I enjoyI like people who enjoy laughing, exploring, discussing, and learning. I like people with positive attitudes towards life... enjoyers of live music or frisbee in the park or being outside as much as possible. Those who are more than the sum of their parts. People who can see beyond their computer screens and cell phones. I like a quick wit and people who know how to laugh at themselves. The humble and the proud. Different people who are comfortable being different. i like people who are friendly by nature, but know the difference between kindness and weakness. Someone who in the midst of the crowd keeps, with perfect sweetness, the independence of solitude. (Emerson) Those with direction and confidence. Board gamers, thinkers, travelers, and especially Couchsurfers. One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Donebeen groped by an octopus while SCUBA diving in hawaii, survived getting hit by a car on my 21st birthday, couchsurfed in a boat (boatsurfed) on the amalfi coast of italy, took a night ride on a motorcycle through paris, saw a cat pee in a toilet in valencia.Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectCouch surfing has changed my life for the best, and it will continue to change it. From Vincent Jumeaux Joinville-le-Pont, France Sep 4 Positive With all those comments already being said, what else?
Such a great guy ! Even in a hectic period (moving out from his apartment) he welcomed and brought us to some good places (awesome party) ! I definitely wanna hang out again with him soon.
From Simon Coquillaud Poitiers, France Sep 2 Positive Eli was a great host, so funny, I really want to see him again in Boston. He has been awesome with me and my friend, he invited us to a party on saturday night and we went to lunch together! He's a great host
From Jeff Kealy Minneapolis, United States Aug 27 Positive So awesome. I was blown away at his and the people he know's kindness.
From Drew Buzzell Los Angeles, United States Aug 11 Positive Man, what good things can you say about Eli that hasn't already been said? Well, I'll tell you, they're all true. Eli is an amazing guy who immediately makes you feel welcome and excited to be in Boston.
He works A LOT but we were still able to work in some Shakespeare in the park, pizza, and a movie. He also gave me a mini tour of Beacon Hill that was pretty awesome.
This is definitely one of those hosting experiences that made me wish I could live in several places at once. My time with Eli and his roommates was incredible and I hope they'll come to LA and visit me soon!
From Cole Miller Berlin, Germany Jul 15 Positive Eli is just one of the amazing people you want to spend you whole day with and then some. He's very cool and relaxed and laid-back and just a gem of a guy. A motorcycle rider with a touch of caution that has the feel of a real world traveler. I look forward to having him over to my place in the future.
From Nora Bauermann Berlin, Germany Jul 7 Positive I stayed at Eli`s in Boston for two nights this summer. Unfortunatly he was busy working and we didn´t get the chance to spend too much time together. Still I can say that Eli is big fun and you should definetly try to meet up with him whenever you are in the great Boston area. Funny, talkactive, social and generous, what more can you ask for???
Thanks again Eli and whenever you come to Berlin drop me a line.
From Florian Ehrbar Basel, Switzerland Jul 1 Positive Eli is a very good guy. He is full of energy. We met him at 2am and he was still jumping and running all over the trainstation. I stayed with him for one night and he made me feel very comfortable. He's really generous and an easygoing person.
From Caspar Bauermann Berlin, Germany Jun 30 Positive Wehn visiting Boston, Nora and I stayed in Brookline with Eli. Very nice house, all relaxing area with sitting on the doorstep and playing frisbee on the street. Eli is Mr. Socializer, I had a very good impression of him and he made us feel so welcome! Very good host. Would definately go there again. Too bad we didnt see the behive... Take care Eli.
From Jackie Fountain Guelph, Canada May 2 Positive Had a great time with Eli and his room mates! We didn't get to see much of them, but Eli was extremely helpful pointing us in the right direction for touring the city.
Feel free to come surf with us anytime! :D
From MARTIN177 Allston, United States Apr 21 Positive Eli and his roommates are exceptionally generous people. Eli will go out of his way to help you feel comfortable and welcomed. It was easy for me to get around Boston coming from their location in Brookline. Stay with them! You won't regret it.
From Yasser Calil Boston, United States Mar 10 Positive Eli is a very nice guy and very easy going person. Even though our timetables never match he received me very well and I was very well treated. The people that share the room with him are awesome and I would love to have all of them in Sao Paulo - Brazil to a vacation. Hey are you guys still going to make that dinner party? Hug Everybody there and thank you very much.
From Andrew Daltas Cambridge, United States Feb 27 Positive There are friendly people, outgoing people, people who can put themselves in your shoes, and people with an engaging demeanor. Eli is all of these and I've never seriously used the term "people person," until now.
From SNEAKYSNEAKY Stockholm, Sweden Jan 28 Positive Everyone is right. Eli, his place, his generosity, his trust and his house mates are more than you could ever hope for. Visit this man, he will improve your life (or at least your experience of Boston!).
From Ian Williams Urbana, United States Jan 19 Positive Eli is one of those strange people whose impetus to be hospitable is so strong and overwhelming that one has no choice to sit back and enjoy the ride. It's smooth, comfortable, and lined with custom-designed cocktails by one of Boston's best bartenders. Truly, this man is a giant of the couchsurfing world.
From Raphael DUPUY Paris, France Jan 5 Positive Eli and his roommates are great, even though we didn't get the oppotunity to spend time together. I hope we could meet again and learn to know one another. You are more than welcome in France!
From SHEEPDONTSWIM Brooklyn, United States Oct 11, 2008 Positive Finn dragged me up to Boston to see Eli, who he promised was one of the coolest people ever. Not only is he super entertaining, but his roommates (and friends and roommates friends) were all loads of fun as well. There was pulled pork and the miracle of science and all sorts of weird surprises. Not only was there a seemingly endless supply of food (french toast! woohoo!) and beer, but he even let us sleep in his bed while he took the couch. That's love.
From Joe Maliszeski Columbus, United States Oct 1, 2008 Positive Every city and everybody needs an Eli. Happiest guy I've ever meet and loves to make new friends. He's no good at beer pong and I have the record to prove that. Climbs trees very well (don't believe his profile picture.) Makes a great nerd. Knows how to have a good time all the time. I had his shirt at in my hotel room for three months. No it's not like that.... "Your Mom" Can't wait to do it all over again!
From Philip Germeys Somerville, United States Sep 21, 2008 Positive Eli is a great guy, didn't see him for a while but I know he is a hardworking person where you can have a decent interesting conversation with. He is a legend because he can remember your name forever once he knows it ^^
From Giulio Cassano Livorno, Italy Sep 3, 2008 Positive Eli The Wise was a wonderful host, plenty of jokes, he likes listen and talk. We had great time hanging around with him and playing frisbee and bowling. He's also the factotum of one of the greatest restaurant in Boston. Last but not least he's a good guy and a friend. The only negative thing is that he maybe try to smother you with the cat and hide your body in the backyard... but don't worry you'll be with the company of others amazing couchsurfers corpses.
From Emanuele Guidotti Livorno, Italy Aug 28, 2008 Positive I had a wonderful experience staying in Boston with Eli. He's a great person, simply great. He likes talking, he likes listening to what you have to say, he's always ready to help you. He showed us the city walking and walking around all day long (even if it was his free day at work). He's a fantastic fresbee player, he always play jokes and he likes having fun. I found a new friend in him. So an advice..if you have the chance to stay with him..do it! You will enjoy your trip much more! Thank you Eli, I'll miss you!
From Josh Whiton Raleigh, United States Aug 8, 2008 Positive Sure, stay with Eli and tour around Boston. But if you leave without getting to know the man himself, you'll have missed out on one of the best things about Boston. Man I miss that guy.
From Julian Pickard Garcia Bath, United Kingdom Jul 29, 2008 Positive Absoutely awesome guy. Generous, fun loving and great energy . Totally hooked us up despite a full house that week. From chilling with his parents to partying with his friends it completely made our experience in beantown.
As a first CS expereince you've set the bar very high dude. Make sure you tell me next time your in my part of the world y nos vemos seguro. Hasta pronto jefe
From Daniel Perez-Krause Bristol, United Kingdom Jul 28, 2008 Positive Eli may just be the nicest person you ever meet, at first its hard to believe but if you meet his parents (super cool) you`ll see why.
From David Boisvert Quebec, Canada Jul 23, 2008 Positive Awsome guy! Extremely friendly, open minded and has a great sense of humor. Kind of person that you feel you've been knowing him for many years after spending only one night with him! Eli, you're welcome anytime in Québec city!
From Elof Nelson Halmstad, Sweden Jul 9, 2008 Positive Very nice guy! a true conversationalist, like he states himself, even though I'd like to add "...with everyone in a suited manner" I'll call him next time in Boston!
From Carrie Helfman Cambridge, United States Jul 2, 2008 Positive Eli, the great. Funny, generous, energetic, flexible, and totally crazy...just how I like em. After meeting Eli, all I wanted to do was blow off every obligation I had just to hang out with him. Hes also pretty damn good at international surprises. Which either makes him a fantastic friend. or a jerk. you be the judge.
my dear, you are sincerely missed.
From Jeremy Ribbink Kitchener, Canada Jun 25, 2008 Positive good guy. I hear good things : )
From Bryan Hogan Cambridge, United States Jun 19, 2008 Positive Eli is a super character, a wonderful host and ambassador. He welcomed me into the CS scene in Boston and made me feel at home immediately.

From Danielle Landry Arlington, United States May 28, 2008 Positive Eli is so awesome and nice that he makes the words seem inadequate. He welcomed me into the Boston CS community with such open arms (literally- he's a hugger) that I felt like we've been friends for years.
From Andrew Judkins Portland, United States May 22, 2008 Positive Eli rocks! I heard all about him before I met him, and he lived up to his reputation! His wit and humor will keep you entertained for hours!
From Patrick Bruen Boston, United States May 22, 2008 Positive Eli is an incredible guy. I can't picture anyone having anything negative to say about him, he is very friendly and open to everyone. He is the type of a person who knows everyone and is not shy about introducing people if they do not.
From Rachel Schwartz Taos, United States May 21, 2008 Positive Let's just say this... I knew there were great people out there but I had NO idea that there were Eli Barnes' out there! He never stops amazing me... he always has a positive attitude, can have a conversation with anyone... literally anyone, he is always smiling, is a complete goof-ball, great listener, never says anything negative about anyone (which is refreshing)...
If a dilemma comes to be, ask thyself what would Eli Barnes do?
From Alessia Stell Milano, Italy May 19, 2008 Positive I would like to live outside Boston to have the chance to be hosted by Eli and the crazy crew!
He likes to make everyone feel special, I guess because he TRULY BELIEVES that anyone IS special.
Surprise him, and he will love you forever (or maybe he won't, just to surprise you more?? dunno..)
From Laura Caplan Cambridge, United States May 8, 2008 Positive Eli Eli Eli ... what to say? For starters I woke up this morning with an "E" on the back of my hand courtesy of his favorite pen.
Eli is truly one of the most fantastic people I have ever met. Ever. Really. He's the type of person who says "tell me about your day" or "I'm glad you're here" and means it. Sincerity is his middle name.
Eli reminds me of a line from a song from The Muppet Movie (don't laugh): "There's not a word yet for old friends who've just met." You meet him and feel you've known him your whole life.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I love you, Eli. You are one of the reasons I am glad to be staying in Boston a bit longer.
See ya later alligator!
From Lara Rodríguez Madrid, Spain May 7, 2008 Positive Eli is not an ambassador, he is a country!
If a new planet was to be found, Eli is the kind of guy you would clone and send there to make friends with aliens. Clone him because you do want him to stick on Earth (a great balance for Universal Karma).
From James White Boston, United States May 2, 2008 eli is a good hearted and fun person. he is always postive and enjoys meeting new people and being social
From Edward Pultar Santa Barbara, United States Apr 22, 2008 Positive Kind person and awesome host, peanut butter jelly time.
From Mark Jones Cherry Hill, United States Apr 18, 2008 Positive ILOVEELIILOVEELIILOVEELI. He is the legend, the 2006 version of me, the 2007 version of him. Copies never do justice to orignials. What a great guy, who is so nice people think he's not being real, but he really is that nice. Met after a year's buildup and a couple phone conversations when he surprised our friends in valencia by appearing on another continent. felt like i knew him already. can't wait to see him in boston. big hug.
From Matthew Jones Boston, United States Apr 10, 2008 Positive Eli's personality and energy is refreshing. It isn't too often I meet people like Eli who is seemingly always relaxed, happy, and outgoing. He is fun to be around and genuinely cares about what you have to say and he puts forth the effort to get to know each person he encounters.
I highly recommend talking with Eli if you are in the Boston area and at a CS event. If you have the opportunity to couch surf with Eli I guarantee you that you are in good hands.
From France LaVoyageuse Quebec, Canada Apr 3, 2008 Positive Eli is an awesome (he teached me that word) person. Very friendly, kindly, attentive... well, I bet I don't know enough words to qualify him. In one word. I love him!
From Misha Leybovich Atlanta, United States Apr 2, 2008 Positive From his big grin to his rolled up pants cuff, Eli is a man with a plan. Introduced by mutual CS friends, I'm stoked to now know a Boston CS legend! :)
From Laren Dubkowski Boise, United States Mar 30, 2008 Positive Met and hi-fived Eli at the weekly gathering in Boston. It takes about two-minutes and you'll feel like you've known him for a couple of weeks. The next day he introduced me to a friend of his and we ate some delicious Greek pizza!
From DUBLINGUY Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Mar 26, 2008 Positive Eli is just something else! His wonderful heart, personality, sense of humour, inclusiveness and just one of the most genuine people I have ever met. He is such an ambassador for life and goodness that far surpasses the wonders of the couchsurfing interface. I watched him in his home over a number of occasions with always the same welcome and genuine good spirit towards everyone he met! He is no angel though just about one of the best people people you could host or surf with!! Thank you Eli for all your kindness and great moments!
From Simon Jones Santander, Spain Mar 25, 2008 Positive Every time anyone mentioned Eli in Valencia, their eyes would glaze over and a fond smile would cross their face... so it was fantastic to finally meet the man himself when he suprised one all and sundry in Valencia for Fallas.
He had a lot to live up to, but Eli definitely deserves all the hype surrounding him. He is an extremely kind hearted person, easy to get along with and a lot of fun to hang out with. Seeing the smiles on everyone's faces (including a fruit lady at the market) when he made his unexpected return to VLC shows just how much he means to so many people. He is an excellent swimmer, washing machine removalist and an all round great guy. I look forward to seeing him again, or being surprised by him in the not too distant future.
From Finn Kölzer Cologne, Germany Mar 21, 2008 Positive I met him during the Fallas-Festival 2008 in Valencia. I was staying with his friends when he showed up very surprisingly.
I liked him from the first moment on and enjoyed the time with him so much. He is a very good listener and interested in what u have to say, which becomes more and more rare in our society. I felt very comfortable around him. If u like either just fooling around or having a descent conversation Eli is a good address, as he is a master in both. A very "Thoughtful Clown", would be a good decription, at least that is how I got to know him and I'm sorry that we didn't have more time, but I already realized that we get along pretty well and we both are very active people and like climbing and jumping, which is always a plus. What else can I say... I hope I have to chance to see him again soon and will get to know him better.
He is always welcome in Cologne!!
From Alan Bykowski Milwaukee, United States Mar 20, 2008 Positive One of the most enjoyable parties I've ever been to was thrown by Eli. Greatest surprise theme ever. I expected some small gathering of 8 to 12 people, and he had the place packed to the gills with what had to be at least 75 people from all over the world. An absolute blast to hang out with.
From Sandra Ducasse Saint-Martin-d'Heres, France Mar 20, 2008 Positive ELI and his roommates hosted me for a week. Eli is the kind of people that everybody want to couchsurf with him. He is an intelligent and open-minded guy. I loved to talk with him and to cook a great brunch with many potatoes ! He made me feel at home straight away… A wonderful host !
From Kan Yan Somerville, United States Mar 19, 2008 Positive This fella throws a helluva party.
From CAGE! San Diego, United States Mar 19, 2008 Positive Eli welcomed my friend and i into his home for one the best and most creative parties I have ever attended. Having never met before, Eli and his roommates treated us as old friends and it was a wonderful time. Thanks Eli!
From CHUCK2012 Sedona, United States Mar 19, 2008 Positive Eli knows how to have a good party bring the CS experience alive!
From Jack Coffin Brookline, United States Mar 17, 2008 Positive I met Eli when he was looking at my apartment almost a year ago. He was actually the first person to mention couchsurfing to me. He told me a little bit about the great time he had couchsurfing around europe, meeting amazing people and experiencing the cultures from the inside. Needless to say, I was intrigued. Eli got me started with the couchsurfing phenomenon and I cant say thank you enough.
From Christine Fik Bloomington, United States Mar 17, 2008 Positive Very gregarious, awesome party too!
From Pamela Salud Philadelphia, United States Mar 17, 2008 Positive met eli at a weekly boston cs gathering. didn't hang out for long, but i could tell that eli is all sunshine. likable through and through.
From Jay Salvo Brooklyn, United States Mar 17, 2008 Positive I first met Eli at his crazy surprise CS party a few nights ago. I walked in and barely said, "Hey, are you Eli?" before he gave me a delicious brownie and directed me to the beer. Totally cool, friendly, and open guy throughout the night. It would be a sad mistake not to meet Eli when in Boston.
From GREGTHEPIRATE Concord, United States Mar 16, 2008 Positive eli is one of the most exuberant people i have ever encountered. he is the essence of couch surfing and i am incredibly happy that he has taken the roll of boston's ambassador.
From Nicky Pallas New York, United States Mar 16, 2008 Positive After first meeting Eli and the rest of the Boston gang of CSers in the summer of 2007 for our Boston Invasion from NY, to a couple of surprise visits of his to NY since then, and then our surprise crashing of his party in March this year, I finally got a chance to get to know him better when we rode the chinatown bus back to NY from Boston.
Anyway, he throws a great party, is always welcome to meeting new people and being the best host he can be, a true embodiment of what the CS spirit is all about. And this man is also wacky and silly like the rest of my friends, so he is definitely welcome back to NY anytime he wishes to surprise us here, and thanks so much for throwing a great party and hosting 11 unexpected guests from NY afterwards!!
- Nicky
From Juan Fernandez Barcelona, Spain Mar 12, 2008 Positive Eli hosted me and Sheena in September, for a whole week! we were supposed to stay only for a few days, but the house was so much fun (with Eli, Mike, Aaron, George...) that we had no choice but to stay and party with them! :)
From Yoed and Tasha Austin, United States Mar 10, 2008 Positive Eli was so accomodating to us! It was fun to hang out with the other couchsurfers also! If you're going through Boston, this is the place to stay! ; )
From Kate Attrill Portsmouth, United Kingdom Feb 29, 2008 Positive Eli and all the boys in his house were the best thing about Boston. They let me stay in their spare room at short notice, made me feel welcome, safe, and completely transformed my experience of Boston (and New York) ELI IS FABULOUS.....there is no better word to describe him.
From Judikaëlle Marterer Montreal, Canada Feb 19, 2008 Positive I love Eli. He loves hugging, sleeping, being happy, wearing bright orange gloves and looking like Ross -in F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I hope to see him in Boston soon ;-P
From CHILIE Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany Feb 19, 2008 Positive Eli is just really fun to be with! He makes perfectly this I-don't-know-face à la Ross, he would fall asleep with one sock and jump into the snow! He doesn't take himself to seriously and life just as it is! Knock knock I'm coming at the end of April to Boston, dude!
From ROSSI IN ROTTERDAM Rotterdam, Netherlands Feb 4, 2008 Positive Eli made us feel at ease when we made it to the weekly gathering in Boston in January 2008. Knew he was a nice person, as he would have let me surf his couch after a weekend full of CS activities last summer but ... I ended up dead tired in Salem instead. Hope to see him back someday.
From A is for Alyssa Santa Monica, United States Jan 25, 2008 Positive Eli is just a bundle of fun-tastic-ness! Have known about him through a friend and finally met him in Boston. He's a wonderful human being and gives the best hi-fives.
If you get a chance to meet/host/hi-five him, don't pass it up. You won't be sorry.
From CURVATURA Cambridge, United States Jan 15, 2008 Positive i was finally on the receiving end of the famous barnes hospitality, and it lived up to and surpassed the expectation. eli was a new year's eve rock star, dividing his time between going back to the scene of the party [crime] to help clean and getting back to his house in time to cook eggs and bacon for the hordes of people who'd ended up at his house.
when he's not engaged as a superhero, eli is warm, funny, self-deprecating, and as prone to falling asleep as all of his other references suggest. if you pass through boston (or new york, or philadelphia, or pretty much any city in a reasonable radius from wherever he happens to be), don't miss him.
From CharlesABQ Buenos Aires, Argentina Dec 12, 2007 Positive There is no question that Eli is a true couchsurfer---considerate, trustworthy, and curious. More than that, to me, I consider him a friend---no time spent with him is wasted.

From Judy GG New York, United States Nov 29, 2007 Positive Lovely Eli warmed NYC with his presence, and boy is it cold now that he's gone! I could tell immediately, from the first glance at his email, that we were clearly good friends from a previous life. And now that we've gotten as intimate as sharing puppets and chocolate, I can't wait to do it again! Come baaaack, and leave your scary friend Mike in Boston ;o)
From Natasha ~A Genuine Soul Boston, United States Nov 28, 2007 Positive What a character, I had a blast partying with this party animal :) This guy gets really happy with he camera...I didn't give him crap for all the pictures he took of me, as I hate the camera but he sure knows how to to throw one hell of a party...great times! UPDATE: One of the greatest CSers of Boston I know, always a pleasure to be around.
From Christine Del Castillo Somerville, United States Nov 3, 2007 Positive Even without knowing Eli all that well, I suspect all self-proclaimed "people persons" wish they were Eli ;)
From Emrah B Boston, United States Nov 3, 2007 Positive As many people as there are on this page who left references for Eli, there's not much left to say about him. All I can say is, he is at least as awesome as myself...yeah and Georgia's capital is T'bilisi
From Alexandra Meek San Francisco, United States Oct 30, 2007 Positive It was so great meeting Eli! he is super easy to talk to, never an awkward moment (haha remember the tie comment?) and such a nice guy! He even offered to drive me to the airport at 5:00 a.m. when I wasn't even staying at his house! I hope he comes to visit SF soon! As you can see I ended every sentence with an exclamation mark... good sign? I think so :)
From Julia Slocum Washington, United States Oct 28, 2007 Positive Eli and all his housemates are wonderful individuals. I was in a bit of a pickle, and they took me in for a week and I had a fabulous time. I felt completely at home with them. They also have the coolest cat in the world. :)
From Mats Mago Isaksen Molde, Norway Oct 28, 2007 Positive I had the unquestioned pleasure of joining Madelyn to Elis Halloween party, and Eli was a great host to a fin party. Too bad the pigs(obligatory anarchist slang) felt like we had too much fun and broke it up. A sure sign for the party loving CSer that this is the guy to approach when going to Boston.
From MCJAZZIE Boston, United States Oct 18, 2007 Positive Okay so Eli appreciates my taste in beer so I have to leave a reference :-) I had a great time meeting Eli, and hanging out with him at his house party. He is an amazing and gracious host and spends a lot of time making sure everyone is comfortable. I dare say, he's the perfect host!! He's always throwing stuff at me :)
From Neil Hooey Cambridge, United States Oct 15, 2007 Positive Eli came through for me and hooked me up with a friend of his who hosted me in Boston for several days. He's really fun and energetic, very social and extremely hospitable. He even brought me snacks when he came to find me in the cold when I was stranded in Cambridge.
From MADELYN Boston, United States Oct 13, 2007 Positive Eli is boundlessly energetic and laugh-out-loud funny. He has a wide range of facial expressions which you will see if he gets his hands on your camera. Guaranteed if there's something going on, Eli is there (with 20 of his closest friends). If only he could remember my name...;-)
From Hans Hinke Stanley, United States Oct 9, 2007 Positive I surfed his couch in Boston, and although he wasn't even home his roomates took great care of me. These guys don't just talk about it.. they live couch surfing. If you are forutnate enough to be able to stay with them... you will not be dissapointed.
From Anton Parker Montreal, Canada Oct 2, 2007 Positive Eli is a Couchsurfing God. But everyone knows that by now by seeing all of his references. It was a great night at the couchsurfing party and his roommates are all really excited participants in CSing which made the experience especially welcoming and enjoyable. Eli is a very conscientious host who ensures that you are comfortable and know everybody around yourself. Eli's apartment actually has a room and mattress for Couchsurfers, what dedication!!

Eli is a fun, amusing, hospitable, open fellow that I had the pleasure of meeting and hope to meet again!
From Audrey Lucchini Chaville, France Sep 15, 2007 Positive This guy's narcoleptic, hyperactive, smiling, curious and caring. Wild and thoughtful. A gift of life. A being everyone of us should have a chance to meet. A permanent surprise. The very incarnation of awesomeness. Wish you the best my Eli ! You're a wonderful wonder !Love you !
From AMERICAIS1984 Mackinac Island, United States Sep 15, 2007 Positive Another wonderful Bostonian (I guess really from dirtydirty ATL). This guy truly is a professional conversationalist - he could keep a conversation going with a brick, and it wouldn't even seem one sided. Unless he's sleeping - he's not as sociable then. I didn't surf with him, but our paths crossed a few times in Boston, and I'm a better person because of that.
From Lauren vanderKeyl Brighton, United States Sep 13, 2007 Positive Eli hosted a great shindig for Boston CSers/CSers in Boston! His warm attitude and outgoing personality made walking into a house full of strangers not in the least bit daunting. (Or could that be the wine?) Hope we can cross paths more in the future!
From Marcos Julio Coimbra, Portugal Sep 8, 2007 Positive Eli hosted me (at last minute) when I was almost given up of my trip to Boston (he had a lot of things to do, even, he hosted me). He is the coolest guy on CS. I have no words to express myself. Everything everybody said before about him, is completely true. He is the perfect CS Ambassador!

From MAIRYSUN Hay River, Canada Sep 5, 2007 Positive I joinded Eli and his flatmate for a drink in Boston when I was staying with Erin. Few days later, I meet all these people again for an ultimate frisbee game and a crazy poker night !! Eli is a really nice person, very welcoming and with a lot of attention for people around him. From JPOUKKA Boston, United States Aug 30, 2007 Positive Eli welcomed me to Boston by inviting a group of other Boston CS'ers to come out with us. Eli is such an easy and wonderful person to chat with. Hanging out with him and the other CS'ers made me fall in LOVE with Boston and now I can't wait to move there. Eli is welcome anytime to surf with me in Japan.

From Claudine Fortier Quebec, Canada Aug 21, 2007 Positive Coming soon....(I'm in Apple store!!!)
--> Not anymore!
Eli, if everyone is awesome for you, it may be because YOU are AWESOME huh!!
Eli is the very best thing Boston can have. You haven`t seen Boston if you haven`t seen Eli (Oups, I mean, the Blue Man Group...)! This real ambassador can show you all around Boston and you`ll have a good time for sure. You can trust him with closed eyes whenever you need him, except when he falls asleep in a strange position. Thank you for having taken care of me and given me such a good time in Boston. I love you too!!
From BritInTheWorld Toronto, Canada Aug 20, 2007 Positive I could tell by just looking into his eyes that Eli is a lot of fun. Although we didn't get chance to talk much his reputation proceded him. More than one person told me he was a great guy before we were even introduced.
From G.o.w.r.i Paris, France Aug 17, 2007 Positive eli is a crazy energetic guy who works all the time but somehow makes enough time for his friends. he was incredibly friendly and outgoing and helped me get my french visa when i was in boston. unfortunately we didn't get to hang out much, but that will probably change in the future. on learning i was going to paris, he also gave me his paris guidebook! eli is an awesome person in general, and i am in the fanclub.
From Kate Drake Boston, United States Aug 15, 2007 Positive I can never get any one on one time, because this guy is so busy, but I've always had a ball chatting him up at parties. Know the saying 'Can you feel the love'? Well, you'll never see Mr. Barnes slow down or tire of passing on his joy for life, positive energy and passion for people. With out a doubt, Eli is the BEST guacamole and salsa chef and the perfect host. I mean, what else can you say about a guy who takes into consideration when apartment hunting an extra room for couch surfers?!?! Fantastic!
From Bebeto Le Garfs Azevedo Sao Paulo, Brazil Aug 15, 2007 Positive Eli is my amb colleague from boston. And I was amazed to meet him, the incredibly handsome man at a cafe. And he made me wanna stay one more night in Boston! And I freaked out about it. And when I realized my flight was already set for another date. So fate made me stay longer ;) It was meant to be. Too bad it was still short thou. But I hope to meet him soon! great guy, count on him!
From Barbara Slomba Perpignan, France Aug 13, 2007 Positive Me&Alberto were introduced to Eli by Toby. We met only once, in Boston on CS gathering, but it was enough for me to find Eli very funny&cool guy:) if You are in Cracow next time, always can count on me!
FIGHT CLUB RULEZZZ!!! ;D
From BEEZ! Boston, United States Aug 13, 2007 Positive so eli rocks, duh. haven't you read the other three thousand references from people who love him? in ode to that love, i wrote him a poem:
there was a young fellow named eli //
he's learning to make a key lime pie //
we hope it's delicious //
(while cody washes the dishes)//
this guy makes my time with him fly by.// true story. except the key lime part.
From Julie_in_Welly Wellington, New Zealand Aug 8, 2007 Positive Eli, I will always love you, as you are the first American (or even non-Kiwi) I have ever met to use the word 'jandal' in a sentence spontaneously! haha.
But seriously, Eli rocks, and if you ever make it down under, look me up!
From Jérôme Campan Toulouse, France Aug 8, 2007 Positive Another extremly positive reference... I don't know what I can say about Eli. He is AWESOME!!! He made my stay in Boston unforgetable. All previous CS with Eli wrote everything about him, I don't know what to add.
Just one thing Eli, I will keep the map, and you will ask me it in french in two years or earlier if you already speak french, right?? AWESOME
From Sabri Ryan Sivan New York, United States Aug 8, 2007 Positive He is such a sweet heart!
He was the only Bostonian to invite all the CS bums from NYC at boston bus station. (even after seeing all of us in "I love NY" t-shirts)
From Anthony deFigio Boston, United States Aug 7, 2007 Positive Eli is the love child of Kindness and Cool. Eli rocks the party that rocks the party. Eli gets down. Eli has charm like bunnies have babies. Eli will make your world brighter, your heart lighter, and your friendships tighter. Eli is the man. Eli should be your godfather. Eli dances with wolves. There are no flies on Eli. Eli will be your friend. Resistance is futile.
From Toby Shaw Burbank, United States Aug 7, 2007 Positive I have been living in Boston for five days so far and Eli and I have hung out on four of them. First at a CS bar party, then at a CS BBQ, then some ultimate Frisbee, then a wonderful dinner at his place. I'll be staying in Boston till Sep. 5th, so if we keep this ratio up we'll be seeing each other 26 and a half days out of 33. Sounds good!
Seriously he has helped make my first days here in Boston a pure delight. A very welcoming and warm guy.
From NEILOTOKOMAY New York, United States Aug 6, 2007 Positive Eli (his last name is Torah, and he's not Jewish!) is ooooozing with awesomeness! I was very tempted to put him in my backpack, steal him from Boston CSers and ride the Fung Wah bus to spread his craziness in NYC! He showed us where Martha Stewart used 2.5M eggwhites to build a house and tour of the National Library of Addictions. Boston CSers must be very, very proud to have this amazing guy. Hope he visits NY soon (hopefully not during Republican Convention). Thanks very much!!!
- Neil (not Korean)
From Bastien Genefort New York, United States Aug 6, 2007 Positive Eli is an outstanding character, outgoing, always making jokes and making people instantly at ease, but also an host who really cares about his guests. I still can't understand how a man can eat so much for breakfast and be able to run that much one hour after, but ultimate freesbie was great, and I am so grateful for all his help in organizing the Boston invasion. The red pill may be bitter sometimes, but you truly make the world a better place :)
From Adela Gavozdea Barcelona, Spain Aug 6, 2007 Positive Eli's become the heart and soul of our growing Boston CSing community and indeed Boston could not have asked for a better representative! besides...he has this amazing talent of making everyone feel comfortable in his company after only a short conversation. I'll miss you Eli...keep this city alive will ya?!
From Mike Atlas Boston, United States Aug 3, 2007 Positive Eli is a perfect fit for Boston's CS ambassador. He is totally outgoing and puts a positive spin on everything. His innate affinity for people, and his instant likability makes him a natural leader in our community.
Boston is very lucky to have him, and surfers should consider themselves extra lucky if he hosts you!
From Marcel Schwarz Vienna, Austria Aug 3, 2007 Positive I met Eli multiple times in Mikes flat. He is a really nice guy, and smart also: from what I know he seems to know a lot about sharks, southern Spain, Quebec City and how many drinks it takes to sleep in really fast :) Seriously: that guy is cool and you wanna meet him!
From Aaron Ilott Brookline, United States Aug 2, 2007 Positive Eli is AWESOME. He is one of the most genuine, friendly, and trustworthy guys i know - and damn funny. I'm laughing right now, see - ahahahahahahahaha. That funny. If you didn't meet Eli, you didn't see the best part of Boston.
From Kenji M San Francisco, United States Jul 27, 2007 Positive Eli is someone you definitely want to know! He has great parties and great friends that are fun to be around.
From James Loss-Wells Montreal, Canada Jul 24, 2007 Positive Eli is probably one of five nicest/friendliest people in the entire world. He went out of his way to make me feel welcome in Boston. Staying with him and his roommate, Cody, made for a great weekend.
Thanks again guys!
From Andrew Weigel Somerville, United States Jul 17, 2007 Positive Who doesn't think Eli is the sh@t? C'mon now, really? Since you've already met him, yer already convinced!
From AMTREKKER Clovis, United States Jul 17, 2007 Positive Eli is a superhuman connector of people and a good friend to everyone he meets. Consider yourself lucky if you get to spend some time with him while you're in Boston. AND...he's a Douche Bag. In a good way. Go Team!!!
From Tryggvi Björgvinsson Reykjavik, Iceland Jul 14, 2007 Positive Eli and I got 'mugged' (the new term for getting drunk) together in Boston. He's a very energetic indvidual. However, he stole my beer after a party and made up some American law about open container in cars ;)
From JONYBLAN2002 Brussels, Belgium Jul 10, 2007 Positive Hey Eli miss you in Boston, last may 2007, but didn't miss you in Québec at Manu Chao show's. Great ! Easy, relax, cool guy, he know how to party.
Be shure I will gives you a buzz when I'll going back to you're beautiful city of Boston. See ya !!!
From Patrick Ralph Crossman Colon, Costa Rica Jul 9, 2007 Positive Eli's da man! Simply put! He's a blast to be around, totally high energy -- just keep an eye on him, he *may* crash out a little early and miss out on some good times! ;)
From Adrian and Mehra Bahremand Blott North Bethesda, United States Jul 6, 2007 Positive Eli was a kick ass host. He welcomed us in to his home and treated us like family. He made sure we were ok during our whole trip and introduced us to his friends. We hope to spend time with him again in the future.
From Rebecca Loebe Atlanta, United States Jun 23, 2007 Positive Eli has been a presence in my life since before I even understood the value of a friendship like ours.
He is my very favorite type of person - intelligent, adventurous, inquisitive and open-hearted. I don't know about you, but when I see him every day of our friendship that we have not spent in contact sinks to the bottom and we rest comfortably on the surface of all of those wonderful moments that we have spent talking, wrestling, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Unlike so many people these days, Eli is 100% engaged in the moment that he's in, and has an uncanny ability to lend you that sort of focus if you need it. Never a dull moment...Viva la Eli!
From BEBE Los Angeles, United States Jun 7, 2007 Positive I met Eli in Boston through CS Extraordinaire Jena.
Very cool guy, especially that he'll be taking me to Rhode Island :-)
He really is a Professional Conversationalist! Hope to see him again soon!
From KMAC2X Arlington, United States Jun 6, 2007 Positive Eli is awesome. I had a few worries about logistics coming into Boston and Eli was so accomdating and my stay wi Boston was fun filled and worry free! He is a great host, an interesting person, and just a cool guy. And his friends are pretty tight as well. If I ever met somebody who didn't enjoy staying with Eli, I would say WTF.
From Jaclyn Costello Ifrane, Morocco Jun 2, 2007 Positive Eli is amazing!! He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and at home in Boston, and I could not have had a better stay. He is such a good person. His imagination and sense of humor are like no other. ;) If the world was truely created the way Eli imagines it, we'd be living in an impossibly magical--and tricky!-- place where everyone was always extremely well fed.(ask him about the bean/rice/jalapeno masterpiece.) I guess what it comes down to is, anyone who doesn't appreciate this guy should be buried in a hole in the desert.
From GRANDVIZIER Tokyo, Japan May 30, 2007 Positive after meeting at a CS party and sharing some great drunken conversations, we then hung out during other various activities around Boston for the weekend - I can't put into words how cool a cat this guy is..... so I won't - but I will tell you that you'd be missing out if you passed on a chance to meet this guy
From Yoann Vezian Valence, France May 25, 2007 Positive Eli...I met him in Boston, introduced by Madelyn. This guy is amazing, he has no time for him, but he manages to find time for you, as a listener, as a guide. I feel very lucky to meet him, so positive, funny, allways smiling, allways a word for everybody. He really likes meeting people. Hope to see you!
From Christopher Till Birkigt Berlin, Germany May 23, 2007 Positive Well, what can i say. This guy is... WOAH! A-MA-ZING! Even though he wasnt my host in Boston, he made me feel like he was. He hung up with me several times, showed me unbelivable places i wouldnt had found alone, organized a baseball ticket for me... blabla, all these examples are not really useable to way what really happened he've done for me... but it was one of the best CS experiences ever. thanks so much.
From James Brown Boston, United States May 15, 2007 Positive Eli is the man, that's all I gotta say. If you hung out with him before you know what I am talking about. He is friendly, outgoing, works two jobs and still has enough energy to party and go out almost every night that's talent. I look forward to hanging out with Eli again.
From Jan-Hendrik Mossdorf Frankfurt am Main, Germany May 15, 2007 Hey Eli, good to hear from you. It was really fun to hang out with you eventhough you slept a fair deal of the time. Still, I think you are a great guy and it feels like your days have 36 instead of 24 hours...Take care
From Lieven Verslegers Stanford, United States May 6, 2007 Positive Nicest narcoleptic. I should have left this guy a reference a long time ago, but it has all been said. It has even been said that it has been said. Wanna meet up in Eastern Europe this summer? -------- Boston Spring break: Eli got me addicted on Dunkin' Donuts. Just got out of rehab. Thanks!
From Russ Muscarella Salt Lake City, United States May 4, 2007 Positive Couch Surfing Security in boston, HE already has to many friends, if that possible? Wicked Sick kid, Nice brain, Friends with all the Harvard successfuls??
You can count on him.
From Dave Crossland Bournemouth, United Kingdom May 2, 2007 Positive Eli Barnes hosted me at his plush pad in Boston for nearly a week in April 2007, and he is a wicked awesome guy and a first class host, who totally tricked out my weekend - Eli took me to a bluegrass gig, introduced me to loads of his friends and the local couchsurfing community, an independent film festival, and nearly to the Boston Arboreum. All of my CS experiences have been totally positive, but Eli demands an " Overall Experience" label better than "extremely positive"!
From Jena Fiamingo San Francisco, United States May 1, 2007 Positive Eli is WICKED fly! He was kind enough to let me tag along with his friends, other couch surfers, for an evening. Eli has a huge appetite for life, paired with an incredibly optimistic attitude. You must hang out with Eli if you get the chance. He's fun, laid back, and a great conversationalist. He thinks he's funny...just go along with it.
From Mike Lawson Toulouse, France Apr 28, 2007 Positive Never will you meet someone quite the same as Eli. Eli is simply the greatest, kindest, most loving individual a person can hope to meet. After spending months stuck to his side in valencia then travelling through morocco, portugal and france together I am now left in the disastrous post eli zone. Eli is one of the rare people who upon meeting I knew/hoped would be a life-long friend. A special bond was forged that has left me wearing my I want Eli back t-shirt 24/7. Make the effort wherever you are to meet this guy. Your bestest bud,
mike
From Philipp Petrenz Edinburgh, United Kingdom Apr 26, 2007 Positive I guess there's not much new I could tell you about Elpi, considering the amount of references other people left. Still, here goes my tiny droplet in the ocean of praising :D Elpi is awesome, even though he doesn't have a face of his own (everybody should have that). I love his subtle humor. DO NOT miss out meeting him when hitting Boston, even though that would be rather difficult anyway, as his apartment seems to be the official CouchSurfing hub of this place. I know my P is in good hands (yes I know this sounds strange). YaddaYaddaYadda
From Leslie Webb Athens, United States Apr 25, 2007 Positive Even though he couldn't offer me a couch, he was very helpful by supplying info about Boston, offering to meet up for a drink, and offering advise about my profile (I'm a newbie afterall).
From Leif Droms Brooklyn, United States Apr 25, 2007 Positive Eli was exceptionally warm and friendly, accepting me within a day's notice. Positive and charming, organizes a GREAT last minute party, and gave me a nice overview of Boston. He's always welcome at my house, no questions asked.
From Derek Dunham Whitsett, United States Apr 14, 2007 Positive Great host!
I had a lot of fun at his party, and everyone else had a great time too!
From Melly-Mel Kirkland, United States Apr 13, 2007 Positive First of all, let me say that if anyone messes with Eli, I will mess you up! However I know he won't need my back since Eli's personality will not only charm the pants off of you, but his Charisma will make you swoon! So BEWARE you sinister lot of rapscallions! you will be thwarted! since only good times, fun times and amazing times can only be had around Eli!
From Thomas Weigelt Hamburg, Germany Apr 12, 2007 Positive Awesome (He loves this word ;)! The world would be such a much better place if there would be just some more persons like Eli in the world. He is funny, helpful, witty, intelligent, smart, interesting...
From Mathieu Lacombe Calgary, Canada Apr 9, 2007 Positive Being in Boston was great while I stayed at Cody and Eli's place. We also met some other Couchsurfer that was crashing at the same place ! Really nice !
From SOPHICARR New York, United States Apr 9, 2007 Positive Hip hip hooray for Eli! After realizing we had as many as three friends in common we were decided on meeting each other in Bean town. Eli invited a bunch of happy-go-lucky CSers for rounds of beers from round the world, and we only parted when Publick House closed its doors – one grrreat time! Merci Eli!
From Stacy Osten Milwaukee, United States Apr 9, 2007 Positive Eli is a super fun person who likes to have fun and is easy to be around!

From Aimee Clark Ithaca, United States Mar 31, 2007 Positive Eli surpassed all of our expectations for a host. We were so impressed by his hospitality and support of the couchsurfing adventure.
From SLEEPKYNG Corvallis, United States Mar 29, 2007 Positive Eli was the perfect host: honest, fun, courteous and genuine.
I had a great time, never felt rushed or bored.
He was really gracious and generous, funny, charming and a ninja.
From Terra Curtis San Francisco, United States Mar 28, 2007 Positive eli is a joy to talk with. he'll make you feel like your most mundane experiences are worth telling the world. he's genuinely interested in those around him, wherever he finds himself. i've never surfed his couch since we live in the same town, but would expect it to be a very welcoming experience.
From Alex McLean London, United Kingdom Mar 28, 2007 Positive Eli was great and especially welcoming during my stay in boston, a really charming guy. My favourite of the many shindigs he masterminded were the drinks sipped on top of the prudential tower. Mmmm orange juice.
From Anne-Sophie Roy Calgary, Canada Mar 27, 2007 Positive My bf and I stayed at Eli's place for one night and we wish we had stayed longer! Eli and his roommate were very nice and welcoming, and they have a great appartment. The location was perfect, the bed was comfortable... truly a great first couchsurfing experience! Don't hesitate to stay with them if you ever go to Boston :)
From Helen Todd Cambridge, United States Mar 18, 2007 Eli is the best un-official ambassador for csing! He hosted a party for cs-ers and seems always eager to meet up for any cs event and make anyone feel comfortable...kudos to Eli!!
From Sam Rorke Wellington, New Zealand Mar 16, 2007 Positive Wow! What a cool guy... I was hoping that Eli would stay with me; in fact, me and my friends all fought over him, but in the end he was the first CS guest to stay with Lieven... you couldn't wish for a better introduction to Couchsurfing.
Eli's a great guy who seizes life by the horns and runs with it. We hit it off straight away, and the few days we spent together seemed all too brief when it was time for him to leave.
From Kiyoshi Garduno Mexico City, Mexico Mar 11, 2007 Positive Well... after a bumpy start where his phone died and he was unable to be on time, he was finally able to change everyhing back by being a great host, a very nice talker (ok, the fact that he brought me a shiraz bottle or wine as an apology also counted) and i had a nice time with him, his roommate, and his current couchsurfer! I told him to visit me in mexico, we'll see!
From Juao cora‰o Porto, Portugal Feb 8, 2007 Positive i will always remenber that night as TERRIBLE! Bingo just sucks. behind that we just have a great time together.
From Michelle Lydin Pittsburgh, United States Jan 15, 2007 Positive Eli is truly one in a million. His optimism radiates through his pores and you will be cramped over in laughter from his hillarious nature and all the AMAZING memories you will make with him!!! There are not enough great adjectives to describe him!!!
From Luna Ferrari Barcelona, Spain Jan 13, 2007 Positive Spent some time with Eli while CS in Valencia!A really fun, friendly and open minded guy!He took me and my friend around the city and he's a great fresbee player!! :) hope to meet him soon again..
From Miao Chien Taichung City, Taiwan Dec 23, 2006 Positive Does Eli need another positive reference?
But I can't help leaving some words here.
The black call from Valencia is getting louder,
Wish someday we can watch "Family Guy" together
again and fall asleep over it(on different couch)
From Cody Madore Boston, United States Dec 5, 2006 Positive Mr.Eli Barnes is a man rare qualities that you just dont find in to many people anymore. He is kind, funny or should i say hilarious, resourceful, funny, smart, a decent frisbee player, and someone who can hold his liquor (not), knows how to speak another language that i cannnot, funny, just a well rounded person. He was also so kind to allow me to join for a small period of time through his european traveling tour, where we traveled 5 weeks with each other and met some amazing people and gave me an experience that i will never forget. I prefer the Eli's!
From Lysette de Groot Santander, Spain Dec 3, 2006 Positive Love you Eli! Extremely sweet, happy funny intelligent guy. It was great to have him here in Valencia for a couple more months!------I miss you!!!!! COME BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!!

Enjoy your exciting trip and do come back to Switzerland mon ami !

From Ben Morgan York, United Kingdom Oct 13, 2006 Positive There's nothing I can say to add to everything already said about Eli. He's just the most genuine guy I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
From Dave Nolan Halifax, Canada Sep 24, 2006 Positive Eli-ito. Eli is one of the most enthusiastic couchsurfers I have ever met. He exudes the essence of what it is to be a couchsurfer. I was introduced to Eli in the form of "Hey Eli this guy dave is another couchsurfer" and immediately his eyes lit up and he informed me that I would be spending the rest of the day with him and his crew. And indeed I did, Eli and the whole Valencia Crew took me under their wing(s) and showed me a great time with no serious side effects.
A very caring, generous, and fun loving guy, who never fails to make you feel like a long lost brother. Seeya on the road.
From Gerard Sevilla Malgrat de Mar, Spain Sep 21, 2006 Positive The world is smaller than you think, becomes completely true since i have met Eli, I met him in London at Stansted airport, we spend the night together chatting, nice guy. you are welcomed to barcelona.
From Shane Nahumko Poznan, Poland Sep 20, 2006 Positive Hosted my roommate, then we returned the favour. Stand up guy, and he lives in Valencia! How cool is that?
From EPIMETHEUSxxx Wilmington, United States Sep 18, 2006 Positive Have I traveled with this fellow? In many ways I have, in some I haven't. I've seen more countries than expected through the clever and creative use of his digital camera and attention capturing details in his storytelling abilities. I've made fondue, as well as many other reccomendations of his, must haves when I travel abroad. I haven't been able to catch up with him in Europe, as he gets around, but sooner or later I'll catch myself in Spain, and will have to drop in.
From Monica Robles Barcelona, Spain Sep 17, 2006 Positive Eli is a real sweetheart, he's the perfect example of the beautiful things you can find joining Cs! You should join it just to get to know him! He's part of my Cs Family... We're best friends now!!
From Sophie Kho London, United Kingdom Sep 13, 2006 Positive I'm quite sorry I didn't get more time to hang out with him but I've really enjoyed the short time we spent talking about randoms! Hope to meet up with him in future whether in Spain or somewhere in the world.
From Roland Wollweber Ludwigshafen, Germany Sep 10, 2006 Positive For my trip to Boston i requested Eli`s place and he is a great host! I never seen such a relaxed guy! He is very busy with his work, but in the time at night and morning at home it was great to exchange with you. Also he know Boston very well, so try to make a citytour with him. From Clement Chaine Saint-Romain-de-Popey, France Sep 7, 2006 Positive The perfect guest... ...and now a friend !
How can I describe him ?
He really looks like David Schwimmer (Ross in Friends) but even more friendly ! He really knows a couple of bad jokes (and I love them) and has a great sense of humour.
He is really open-minded, interested in many subjects, open to people...
And, he's not smelling, which makes him a good guest. ;-)
(The other couchsurfers I met weren't smelling, this is only a private joke, )
From SPYRO Kaikoura, New Zealand Sep 3, 2006 Positive Ok well the first person to tell me about Eli was Monica in Barcelona and I had been hearing great things about Eli ever since. All I knew was he was a guy I had to meet, and guess what... He is a hella cool guy, he is an amazing re-addition to the Valencia family. He worked with me so my nights were a ton of a lot more fun... YAY ELI!!!!
From Dieter Duyck Herent, Belgium Aug 29, 2006 Positive source of inspiration. Eli spent some days in Paris, staying with some of my neighbours, also CS'ers. Sounds complicated, anyway. When I first met him, there was immediately a spark (I don't know if I'm saying this the right way:)). I wanted to host him, but one of my neighbours was faster:). I think we have a lot of the same interests. It's a pitty we didn't spent much time together, but that's life, no? You meet awesome people, but you have to say goodbye a little bit later. He's doing a great thing for the moment, has contacts all over the world, and becomes every day 2 years older with all this international experiences. I can only say you have to meet this guy, and then discover the rest yourself!

From LIFE_IS_SHORT Stillwater, United States Aug 13, 2006 Positive E - L - I. A great guy who's a real pleasure to hang out with...not to mention an orange connoisseur! If he runs for All-Time King of the World, he's got my vote for sure.
From Florian Lentsch Vienna, Austria Aug 8, 2006 Positive Hosting Eli actually made me feel like being on holidays myself. He has so many stories to tell!

From Yann Pasquier Courbevoie, France Jul 26, 2006 Positive Eli is a great person, I always had some good laugh with him. I showed him the "Dune du Pyla" and he was like a child, jump in the sand etc... Don't come back to the US stay with us :)
From Nico Casias Denver, United States Jul 26, 2006 Positive Eli Dancer. He's a social genuius. He can make anyone feel at home and comfortable. He´s so charming in Spanish I hear all the ladies say! But in English he´s more I´d say eloquent, educated and insightful. Take him in wherever he goes.

From Guillaume Bois Montreal, Canada Jul 22, 2006 Positive Eli, Eli, Eli... what a great, genuine, funny...very funny, honest and special man. We've met in Bordeaux for Angela's birthday, in Roma in the Vatican's museum line and in the metro of Athens. After that, we decided to go to the Greek Island together. We rented some quads, discovers some great beachs, had a loads of good laughs. When you travel with Eli, it's impossible to get bored. The guy is a magical box. Always find something to make the moment special, unique. I'll miss you. Good thing we are only 5 hours driving away from each other. See you, in Montreal or Boston:)
From IRISHPOLYGLOT Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Jul 21, 2006 Positive the unknown awaits! On a European adventure with an open mind and a genuine curiosity of who he meets, Eli has re-inspired me and reminded me why I'm travelling myself with his enthusiastic charge into the unknown of Europe.
We met randomly in chat one day and then he contacted me months later to stay with me in Toulouse. Then quite some time later he surprised me for my birthday in Barcelona!! It was without a doubt the nicest present I have gotten in a very long time!! I miss you already man!
He's a very easy guest to host, and a great guy for both a serious, and a ridiculous conversation. He has spirit and should have one hell of a story to tell when this is all over! Keep me posted!
Someone said he looks like Ross from Friends - I just say he looks like a friend ;)
From Gerard Cristofol Mataro, Spain Jul 20, 2006 Positive Amazing pal. He didn't hesitate to come all the way from Valencia to surprise us with a party. Role model for those who forgot how to live because the everyday dance of getting a job, pay a mortage or a rent, get married, have children and all the crap that society seems to make you belive its mandatory. Keep up the dream alive.
From , Jul 19, 2006 in the mayne. It's been said so many times already. Eli is everything one could wish for in a world traveller. Apart from all the clapping....no seriously you HAVE to meet this guy.
see you again one day mate |
