JOAO

Hosting Joao and Yvonne was a great hosting experience. He is a friendly fun loving person and always makes people laugh. Even though I did not have much time to show them around the town, we had a fun time together with Yvonne and other CSers. Would love to catch up with him again in future.

João is a very nice guy. Open minded and nice talker. We really enjoy the time we spent although it was not to much. We loved to ear about his travels and want to visit him in Australia one day. João before you go back visit us again OK?

I don't often click "I highly trust this person." For some reason Joao encourages this confidence in him almost immediately. He came near midnight in a new, $3 Dodgers jacket (which, by the way, was either forgotten here or gifted to us), and a raging uno game was in full effect. I was afraid we scared him off, as the "just going out to get some things from the car" felt like it took forever. Yet upon his return, we had a talk of the highest caliber, a hike not soon forgotten, and a meal of the finest quality. He also claims the sleep here was the best of anywhere else in the states so far, so take that for what it's worth! Come back and we'll start a cricket game, so that you can't get out in just two days.

Bloody nice guy! Joao stayed over here for 3 days and it was so cool! I got really nice alternative stuff from him, such as music, movies and tips!

Joao was a pleasure to host, as was his friend Kathrine. He was interesting, friendly, open and with a good sense of humour. We shared a couple of meals and he even got us wine, cherries and ice cream for desert. He is also tidy with his dishes and when he leaves.

Traveling with Joao was the best thing that could have happened to me. We had sooo much fun couchsurfing through New Zealand. We have been traveling together for almost a whole month - the longest time I have ever traveled with anyone and it was just wonderful. We have seen an active vulcano, a fiord, a glacier and so much more. It was an unforgettable experience.
Joao is a very funny person and we had so many things to talk about - it never got boring. I highly recommend this young gentleman - my favourite Portuguese person of the whole world - to everyone, not only to learn some Portuguese or find out more about health!!!

I wish you happy travels Joao. I'll see you in Portugal :)

 

Joao is the kind of person everyone wants in their life: giving, compassionate, committed and ruthlessly funky. He's also inventive, educated and a real stand for his beliefs and knowledge. Joao is a real contribution to the world, thanks for surfing my couch.

 

Joao and i met for maybe 5 minutes , a quick rundown on how to navigate to the supermarket and i had to run... It is quiet easy to trust and be trusted within this network Joao , i think we are mostly all here for the same good reasons :o).

Joao I'm so sorry it took me 2 years to finally write you a reference. But then again I know you are a very forgiving brother :)
Before I met Joao I was already told by others that there was a crazy Portuguese man lurking around Zed's housewarming party. Only later did I realize that the poor crazy portuguese fellow was just misunderstood...he actually has a great sense of humour but masks it so well that people always take him seriously. Many times I don't know whether to laugh or be serious but you know it's all jokes when he breaks out in his michevious grin. Joao is a great friend and brother with so much love and wisdom to part with. I have never felt so connected to anyone in a short period time like I have with Joao. Spend a day with Joao and your life will dramatically improve by an inch! Joao comes highly recommended:) xxX

Joao is a funny and friendly dude. I wouldn't have rejoined Couch Surfing had it not been for the fun times we had at Rainbow Gathering.

Joao started it all with a party in his backyard! Four months on, I can't help smiling as I write this reference -- Joao is a shining star in the constellation of Melbourne couchsurfers, but for many weeks I befriended him as a vibrant neighbor who tends to put hip-shaking anthems on replay from evening to early morning. A real gem.

I cannot believe that I haven't left a reference for Joao yet. Well, there it comes :-) Melbourne without him would be hard to imagine now. Would miss all the good conversations, Portuguese parties, movie nights and just this wonderful person too much!

 

Met Joao a few times @ Cs get-togethers here in Melbourne. He is a cool guy, nice to have a conversation with, especially about nursing, as we are both working in that job.

It only took a couple nights out with Joao and I could immediately tell that he and I were on the same page. Super interesting, friendly, and fun guy to have at a roof top party! Many more experiences to come! Cheers mate!

This guy is the best. He is funny, social, he organises parties and meetings. He likes to drink, he likes to dance. His sense of humour is excellent. He is always happy even when he broke his ribs doing acrobatic jumps after too many beers.

 

Joao is a really nice person. He is very sincere and has a friendly and warm nature. He helped me so much in planning my journey through Portugal. Thanks heaps mate for taking the time to do this! I also met Joao at his New Years Eve party and also again at the Australian Open Tennis in 2008. He is a great guy and I hope I see a lot of him in the future.

João is a Master... London is even brighter these days and the main reason for that is because João Grilo lives there. People like him are full soaked with the essence of CouchSurfing and definitely João thinks ahead than the average person - he knows that the world doesn't end (after all, its surface it's round and that our achievements are propelled by our conscient dreams. João is a great person and I also think that I got a friend. He is clever, extremely helpful and a Master of hospitability (we wandered around together and he even cooked a delicious Portuguese meal). I got touched by his hospitability and friendship and I felt that I knew him for ages - sharing common interests and a similar approach to life. I also feel that, one of these days, we will meet again (in Tokyo, in London, in Portugal or somewhere else), because we both know that the good people are important and that the world doesn't end in the corner.

If you can host him or surf his couch, grasp the opportunity and get contaminated by his cheerful mood and ideas.

Let my introduce to you the Flying Portugese... hehehe, Joao is a funny guy with who i had a great time in melbourne, he s a professional stairs faller (i mean he broke 2 rib while he tried to be Freestyle in the stairs....hahaha) i wish you everything good for the futur and let s meet again in europe... big up

 

Every single time we have caught up, I have noticed Joao do something so unconsciously lovely and thoughtful that it inspires me to be a more generous person.
He has been a wonderful guest at my house, and brings lovely goodies, and becomes even more polite when inebriated (it's so charming, trust me!).

Joao is an important facillitator amongst the Melbourne community. Since meeting him, he's introduced me to many a C/Ser and many more C/Sers to others. He's extremely sociable and will come out at the drop of a hat!
We share a love of arthouse and foreign films and getting to know Melbourne (our home for the forseeable future) through theatres, festivals and bars.
I consider Joao to be one of the most reliable and considerate persons I've met of late... something that probably comes hand in hand with his profession. Although, he does have a tendency of telling gruesome pull-filled stories whilst you're eating!

He asked me many times for forgiveness in my mobile,email, CS email, called me, tried to catch fish for my dinner.If you want to be around him pls Prepare to laugh and dont forget to GIVE HIM COOPERATION lol We sat on sidewalk of Ometesando st.,sipping beers, lauging making joke of people and our stories.

I was ready to go alone in Osaka and Joao came and changed the plane. Just good time first in english then in Spanish and at the end some french. What can I say? Just continue to be the same man. Now you have a friend in France and when a french says that it's for life. See you soon aroun the world and maybe in Australia

joao is such an interesting, cosmopolitan human being! it was nice to bump into a fellow surfer from melbourne in crazy japan. he can speak a zillion languages and is very in the know. it was fun going sightseeing to horyogi with him

Joao is an interesting person, very kind and thoughtful and a WONDERFUL cook (still owes me a recipe though...). We spent an evening talking over pots and pans and it seemed like we could talk for hours and not run out of topics or profound thoughts. Great guy.

I met Joao at Jeanette's house party and found him to be hilarious. A very interesting and amusing guy who it would seem can talk about any topic.

Joao is sensitive, astute and committed to making CouchSurfing a safer and better place for everyone, I trust him, and so can you!

Joao is a really interesting character - A good listener and very perceptive. He seems quite deep and usually has something profound to contribute. I look forward to getting to know him better!

We met now a serveral times in Melbourne on diffrent CS dinner, send offs and just "boozin" partys. It was allways good fun to Joao around, he got this sense of understatement Humor I would die for to have it. Highly recommended to have this man arround.

Joao has grown on me. He is very intelligent and quite funny in some odd occassions. When we first met, we really did not get a good chance to know 1 another. But since then, he has been in constant contact and I do feel he has quite a good soul and I look forward to getting to know him better!!

Always with something insightful to say, Joao may seem like the intilectual nurse who travels the world in search of adventure, good times and delicious asian food. Hes also my friend!

A man who knows where his feet stand on this earth. Interesting conversationalist and admirable personality and attitude. After many encounters, both organised and by chance (this man has a habit of popping up out of nowhere) I can honestly say it is a pleasure to know him.

 

Joao is a very chilled, sweet guy, relaxed and easy to be in the company of. Looking forward to getting to know you better when I get back to Melbourne.

 

Me and my girlfriend traveld with him to another couchsurfers holiday house (friendly driven by Melbourneexperience) and had there exciting discussions about the gloabalization and Corparations. The day after we helped us out with taking fotos from each other with the 12 Apostels in the background. Ioao is a smart, friendly and open minded person. It was good fun!

I met Joe at a CoachSurfing birthday party in Melbourne. He seems like a nice guy and fun to hang out with.

Joao is a really nice guy! we stayed with him for a night on a VERY short notice, and he was just an awesome host! we coudnt do anything about him sleeping on the floor and giving us his bed... I can really recommend him as a couchsurfer!

Joe has a good heart, understanding and honest, genuinely interested in becoming a part of the couchsurfing community. He is a good listener, but if you can, it's good to have the chance to listen to him too. Mature and fair, doesn't like to indulge in argument or egotism, I enjoy his company and I want him to come hiking with me sometime soon. He really helped me in a time of need with my car, that's right, he actually fixed my car on the spot, he made a bad situation as good as it could have been, and thank you so much for that, I will always remember and appreciate that Joe, thankyou.

 

Joao was kind enough to spend a full day with me and show me around in Melbourne. We had great conversations and I truly enjoyed his company and his knowledge (not just about the city!). He is a reliable person I would recommend with no hesitation.

This was our first time that we were the guests of someone in the couchsurfing community. It was a really positive experience. Joao is an extremely hospitable and nice person. We were having a really good time and if all the other people that we might meet through couchsurfing were like him it would be great. A real cosmopolitan with dreams. It would be great to meet again some time. Maybe as hosts?
Update: Can you believe it - we met again after just three weeks. A pleasure.

 

Joao seems to be silent observer who will just sit back and take everything in before presenting an opinion or point. An un-bias and very open minded person who i would like to get to know better.
