About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make adventure a daily occurrence.

ABOUT ME

I've spent my career working with kids. I love the energy and enthusiasm they bring to things that we sometimes take for granted.
It's that enthusiasm I try and keep with me. In other words, I love to learn, explore and have fun!
I am a rock climber, scuba diver, hiker/scrambler, canoe guide and breakdancer.

I currently teach breakdancing to youth here in the city and have been dancing for over 6 years.

I do not consider myself shy and enjoy making new friends from all over the world. I am amazed by how many different life experiences exist in the world and believe that everyone has something valuable to teach one and other.

My wife and I love the outdoors and travelling as much as possible.
When we travel we like to learn as much about the culture as we can.
We're keen on pets, non smokers and are quite open minded.

We've decided to take a year off from our jobs to travel the world!
Mostly Asia and New Zealand is our plan - but you never know where we may end up.

PHILOSOPHY

Go with the flow.
Expand your comfort zone.
Life is too short not to live it!
Life is Good.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am a new member looking to get involved with the CS World. I currently rent an apartment so I do not have the capacity to be a Host, but would gladly meet someone out for a coffee or a drink and show them around the city.
I am hoping that through staying connected with CS I will be able to share my travel experience, meet others on the road, give advice and help when possible.
I also hope that when my wife and I settle down we will be able to become Hosts ourselves.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most of my experience is through friends and family so far (May 2011).
I've crashed on couches, in tents, in igloos, on the beach, in a hot-tub, in cars, vans, hammocks, canoes. And of course hotels, hostels and houses.

We're looking to expand this list :)

-I enjoy an experience which offers a good chance to get to know some friendly people, with similar interests or even complete opposite interests which I can learn about!
-We are not afraid of cooking and enjoy making communal meals.
-We'll gladly take people up on offers to explore the region but will also respect people's privacy and personal schedule. We're not out to burden anyone!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelling in China, we had the chance to climb Hua Shan.
Hua Shan is a beautiful mountain in which thousands of steps are carved out of rock.
Steepness grades begin at "near flat" to "hold on to this rusty chain so you don't fall off the face of the cliff".

We slept in a hostel on top of the mountain, in a room with 40 chinese tourists, woke at 4am to walk to an amazing vista of the sunrise.

One popular section of the hike allows you to walk along three nailed together planks. With hundreds of feet above you and thousands of feet down. You can sit and dangle your feet over the edge as you are literally sitting on the face of the mountain, looking out over ranges of mountains. China's safety laws are quite different than Canada's.
