Gerard and I have been involved in CS for 6+ years. We recently took a break from hosting but are currently easing back into accepting couch requests but preferably weekends and 2 nights maximum because we have quite a hectic work schedule and well, we'd like to spend some time with each other too!
Please reassure us that you have read these details by writing ´Gerard es tontito´ in the subject heading of any correspondence or you may not get a reply - because the most important thing for a successful couch search is to read a persons complete profile firs - you may also find out common interests to mention in the request which could increase your chances of being hosted. Barcelona is an active city, If you have trouble finding a host in the city, try looking for hosts in nearby towns - public transport is great here and you'll get to see more of Catalunya. GOOD LUCK!
* We have a cat who thinks he's a dog
* 2 nights only
* Non-smoking house
* We are vegetarian
* We have extra pillows/blankets but the cat might fight you for them
The couch pulls out to a double bed. Our bedroom is a mezzanine but isn't completely closed off so even though we can't see you, technically it's the same room. In saying that, there's another mezzanine in the other room of the house which fits a single mattress so you have the choice of privacy if you are on your own (well, not privacy from the cat, he's bound to walk all over you).
We live in the center of the city in a neighbourhood called Eixample and we're close to the metro top 'Diagonal'.

Angela lives an eclectic life of contrasts and adores the cultural exchange experienced from hosting. She loves Coffee with a capital C. She´s open, honest and real. She likes Coffee. She loves to Party Hearty but is just as happy with her hands in the soil and a peppermint tea (or Coffee) by her side. She is mesmerized by the beauty of simple things like a blade of grass swaying in the wind, the swirl of the crema atop her espresso or the silouette of tree branches against the night sky. She really likes Coffee. She´s also known to exclaim random statements with no real attachment to the moment and often gets carried away with speaking in the 3rd person. Did she mention she likes Coffee? She gets on with everybody and anybody as long as they treat others as EQUAL. Ang also gives useful advice like 'Don't Panic, Always wear clean underwear and Never, NEVER underestimate the intelligence of a chicken'.
Her husband Gerard is less complex. He likes anything electronic (except the music genre) and strangely finds cycling 200km a whole lot of fun.
Rufus the cat with dog-like tendencies likes to sleep, fetch or chew his own feet whilst simultaneously kicking himself in the face. He likes to think of himself as an adventurous feline but is afraid of heights and Steven Segal.
How I Participate in CS
Building networks to help our fellow CSers. Recruiting local hosts.
CouchSurfing Experience
- ANGELA - First attempted to couchsurf in Florence in 2005 but ended up being invited to a music festival on the top of a mountain and have since been a guest/host all over the show.
- GERARD - Has been hosting hundreds of CSers in Barcelona for years
- RUFUS - Likes the comfy corner bit of the couch quite a lot
Interests
Exploring whichever corner of the earth we find ourselves in and laughing... Laughing fixes almost everything - except if you are a cat, if you are a cat then I guess meat in gravy fixes absolutely everything.
Philosophy
the plan is... there is no plan
:: Ma Te Whakatau Ka Mohio, Ma Te Mohio Ka Marama, Te Marama Ka Matau, Ma Te Matau Ka Ora (By discussion comes understanding, By understanding comes light, By light comes wisdom, By wisdom comes life)

Types of People I enjoy
Open minded creative individuals from all walks of life.
Teach, Learn, Share
ANGELA - can teach you how to walk into lamposts with minimal damage incurred.
GERARD - T-Rex impersonations 101
RUFUS - Always stretch before and after exercise, then lick yourself.
One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done
ANGELA - The Pixies live in concert in Ireland, Being chased by herd of angry elephants in Botswana, Jumping out of a plane with my Dad in New Zealand, Haggling an armed Thai police officer down from a 2000 to 500 baht fine, Getting a second chance to live this life.
GERARD - Climbing inside a giant ball and being pushed down a hill.
RUFUS - You don't wanna know the things I've seen from this angle!
Cliche as it sounds, CS changed my life and I'm thankful for the kind, caring people it has filled my life with whom I am continually lucky enough to call my friends.
This summary is not a replacement for reading references; it's a quick summary to help you get started. At a glance, you can see how many references a member has, and how many of them are positive, neutral, and negative.
In the second line, you'll see how many references came from people who hosted this member, surfed with them, and traveled with them. These numbers won't always add up to the total: some references are not categorized, and some may be categorized as more than one thing.
When viewing this summary, don't jump to conclusions! Things that are negative for one person may be positive for another, and vice versa. It's important to read references carefully and evaluate what that information means to you.
fun person :) it was nice to have met them. Iris and I enjoyed their company , groovy people and heading to Kiwi bar was a great choice :) she was so funny, I choked :D
I really appreciated for Angela's great hospitality, giving me tips for BCN tourism, comfortableness at home, great company. One of my great memories in BCN was 9 Km running with Gerard. He was a great pacemaker! Sleeping Rufus was also unforgettable memory! Thank you Anglela, and Gerard! Hope to meet you in Tokyo next time. :)
I was really happy to stay with Angie and greg for a few days in Barcelona,and to go to picnic with you afterwards. You are such an open and kind person and you make great food! :D I really hope i will see you again sometime!

I was not expecting to like Ang when I'd heard about her. Kiwi v's Aussie, Vegetarian v's Carnivore. But what can I say - it was love at first sight. I find it hard to remember even first meeting Ang, she's become such an important part of my life...my family. One of the few people I will allow to share cooking in the kitchen with (always with a bottle of wine) and one of the few people I will go out of my way to make sure a meal is completely vegetarian. I love this divine specimen of a woman and am so glad she's part of my life.
My travel companion and myself were so utterly lucky that Angela and Gerard agreed to host us between April 1-4, 2011.
Everything went smooth and nice, they are a lovely couple.
Communicating prior to arrival with Angy was quick and efficient. She gave us precise and accurate directions where to meet and how to get there.
Also, she is truly "open, honest and real" as she writes about her. Humorous, funny and an excellent host - I might add.
These two people really have the true CS spirit. It's inspiring meeting them. We were lucky to spend time with them and learn about New Zealand and so much more.
Their couch is centrally located, but don't concentrate and the bed: Ang and Gerard are lovely people! Rufus, their cat-dog is cute!

ang is a happy beam of light. i'm going through travel withdrawal and she was one of the first people who came to mind that i miss terribly. i was lucky to have spent a few crazy days with her in porto and was luckier to have had the opportunity to repeatedly whack her on the head with a giant hammer. perhaps spain is in my future... if it's in yours find ang and consider yourself blessed you did.

Angela and Gerard are the best. Sweet, funny, quirky to a T and a real pleasure to be with. Love the Kiwi accent! I came to Mataro over my birthday and Angela really went out of her way to make me feel special. Thanks for the nights out, super yummy cake, and introducing me to both your wonderful friends and possibly the strangest cat ever. Do let me know if you are ever in America, I would love to see you again!
Ang was the first kiwi who welcomed me to Barcelona & introduced me to the rest of the CS world there. Always the life of party and Gerards not that bad either ;)
Ang is SUUUUUCHH a good host and is one of the most thoughtful, generous people ever. She'll go out of her way to great extents. She gets along with everyone and is therefore GREAT to bring to parties! She's also quite quick witted and pretty funny jejeje! She also makes a killer coffee chocolate mud cake thing. Gerard is da bomb too!
