I share a townhouse in the Capitol Hill/Central District neighborhood of Seattle with my awesome roommate
Steve, a bubbly musician and songwriter. Looking for a new roommate now, so I'm unsure whether or not I'll be hosting come June. :)
We're social and active, and there will likely be alot of movement and people coming in and out when we're hosting. If home, we enjoy making meals, maybe watching movies, or sharing some of the Northwest's great brews. We all work different and odd hours, and do our best to respect people's space and sleep time, but if you're looking for a super quiet space 100% of the time, this is certainly not the place to surf. Also, since we do work strange hours at times, people who are self-sufficient in visiting the city when we're not available are preferred.
From our home, it takes 12 minutes to walk to CapHill's main area(restaurants, nightlife), and about 40 to walk downtown. Busses are very close.
We have internet access, but plan on using your own computer, unless you want to surf with the wii. :P
As for rides, please count on public transportation. I do not drive a car.
I am dedicated to the couchsurfing community and am a very active member, especially within Seattle, so I will do my best to accommodate those that show some involvement. Priority will be given to those with COMPLETE profiles. With pictures. Even moreso to those who host. In fact, if you don't complete your profile, don't bother requesting accommodation here. My roommates and I are opening our home, our lives to you, and it is vital for us that I know who we're dealing with! I will delete messages without a photo before I even open them. And, no, a link to your FB page doesn't replace having a profile.
OH, and, do a favor to the Couchsurfing community and don't just send 10 people the same mass message. Knowing that someone did not even read your profile or care who they're staying with is extremely annoying. I guarantee you will get more acceptance with personal messages. If I get one, you're either going to get a general cut n paste answer, or If frusterated with you, I'll probably go on and on in a 10 page response.

Personal DescriptionI'm rather easy going... i think. My focuses are to learn and to love... and to enjoy every bit of it. I like to challenge my brain, and pick and challenge yours. I'm a teacher who's taking a year or two 'off' to be a nanny while I prepare to take my career up a few notches. I'm also an artist, and I take every chance I get to fiddle around with new and interesting topics, materials, and ideas. I love languages, and would love to learn some of yours from you. Passion and compassion are two traits I gravitate towards in myself and in other people. I'm open minded and enjoy good conversation with likeminded people... plus the occasional heated discussion with others.
You want specifics???... Quiet at times, but more assertive than you can imagine when i'm passionate about something. The most sensual person you'll ever meet. A hell of a teacher. I love to cook, and love to try new things in the kitchen. Up for just about anything, I want to try everything possible. Awe inspiring landscapes can make me cry. Pleasure gives me goosebumps. Plastic people bore me. Liquor makes me talkative. Great music, great food, and great movies are almost as nice as great company. Laughter makes my world go 'round. I've found that beauty is in abolutely everything. I'm a tad naughty. I inadvertenly 'tune out' whenever horribly pompous people thrill themselves with the sound of their own voice... however.. if you're normal, I love to listen. Random acts of kindness should be the goal of our lives. I live to learn. People who are comfortable around children intruige me. I am multitalented and multidimentional. Conversely, everyday is humbling.
I've been in Seattle a couple of years and love it!
Also, I'm well aware that I can be excessively verbose when writing, and excruciatingly shy when I first meet people. I'm trying to find a comfortable, relaxing balance between the two.How I Participate in CSFirstly, I tell everyone I know about it. How could I not? Most of the most amazing people I've *ever* met are CSers. Many of my best friends have come from this peoplepool. Usually people either love it or let their fears shine. Ugh. Many have signed up. Primarily, I just put out my couches and have a blast with travelers, local CSers, and new lifelong friends.
I organize numerous CouchSurfing events around the Seattle area. I moderate our city's boards and am a Seattle ambassador..... I try to keep up on each as often as possible.
Currently helping to create Seattle's CouchCrash for 2012.
I also took lead of Couchsurfing Camp @ Burning Man (couchsurfingcamp.org). Basically, we are a weeklong CS event/theme camp in black rock city. Our main event is on Tuesday evening.. come say hi!CouchSurfing ExperienceI lost count of how many people I hosted at about a couple hundred a few years ago... but numbers mean absolutely nothing. My hosting is largely dependant on where I'm living and who I'm living with. If they're not comfortable, I wont host. In March of 2011 I officially surfed my first couches! SuperRad. Regularly organizing CS events helps me keep connected to local CSers, the Seattle Community, and to a multitude of visitors, even when my couch is unavailable.InterestsHere's the consice version...
Art, art, aRt, scalding baths, getting filthy dirty, halloween, impromptu trips, ganja, Billy Lane, coffeemugs, boozing with company, zombiewalks, new socks, myman Jack, late nights, sweaty sweaty sheets ;), hiking where none-few have hiked before, time with good people, facepaints, learning, singing in my aweful voice at the top of my lungs... especially on some random isolated mountaintop, good storytellers, sunbathing in the buff, backpacking through foreign countries wondering where I'll sleep or how I'll eat, starlight, the feel of a wave as it crashes against you, seeing the spark of knowledge form in the eye of a 2 year old for the first time, knowing that you had alot to do with getting that spark there, double espressos con pane, belly laughs of little kids, sour candy, surrounding myself with good music, being the devil's advocate, hot wax, going to shows, camping in the boonies, the smell of pomegranite/mango, the taste/texture/temp of good coffee ice cream as it slides down your throat, the feel of a recently shaved head.... or the tug of a looong goatee, pleasure in every sence of the word, the smell of IcyHot, astral exploration, people watching, cooking amazing meals, snuggling... to a point, the buzz in your body after a few hours of working out, the smell and feel of babies.. minus the crap, old peoples wrinkles, watching people dance like no one is watching, being up to my elbows..or toes.. in wet clay, sand between my toes, breathing... and not getting 'city' in with the air, long hugs, rewatching good film, metal+oxyacetaline+forges+hammering, making people think, goose bumps, blank canvases, yoga practices, taking my class out to jump in the puddles, reading, physics, volunteering where I can, giving massages, putting you to sleep with my feather touch, finding money in my clothes, making someone smile, long coats and tall boots, dancing for hours on end, drenched in sweat, candlelight, being able to put the blowdryer down, making a fool of myself at the pool table or bowling alley, finding old friends, an oven that's baking something, putting on clothes that just got out of the dryer, taking off clothes, reading Discover front to back an hour after I get it out of the mailbox, the complete honesty and innocence of a child, the satisfaction of stepping back after finishing a piece that's taken a while to create, couch cuddling to a good movie, kayaking, watching someone you don't know stare at one of your pieces in a gallery when they don't know you're the one who created it... and wondering what they're thinking, having a 2year old randomly come up behind you and say "Klaire, can I give you a hug.. you know what? I love you so much", Having a different 2 year old say basically the same thing an hour later, roller coasters and amusment parks, snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes, loud music, the hole in the wall places where there's no sign.. where pitchers are $4... the bartender knows you and all your friends by name... and puts on the music you like... the pool table is free if you bang it in just the right spot... you can stay comfortable till well past closing time... and for the most part there's not a huge 'hip' scene screwing things up, the dizzying enigmatic feeling of your energyflow pulsating/expanding/vibrating, waking with dream memory recall, giant air-filled bouncy thingies, ballpits, new experiences, meeting interesting new people.PhilosophyLive life! Try to stay in the moment. Attract positivity, love life, teach, and learn.Music, Movies, BooksMovies-Amelie, Dancer in the Dark, Requiem for a Dream, Y tu Mama Tambien, 12 Monkeys, Baz Lhurman's Romeo and Juliet, Baraka, Nightmare Before Christmas, Science of Sleep, Life is Beautiful, A Town Called Panic, City of Lost Children, Spirited Away,.. and lots and lots more.

Books-definitely depends on my mood at the time. Lots of Science/Physics books/mags, some metaphysical, some leaning to spirituality, some fiction. etc
Favorite authors include Khalil Gibran, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Herman Hesse, Pablo Neruda, Paolo Coehlo, Chuck Palaniuk, to name a few. Oh, you can throw Stephen Hawking in there, too.Types of People I enjoyI enjoy laid back, open people who aren't too serious about life and know how to enjoy it. I enjoy people who love people. I like people who are creative and outgoing, but also love to pick the brains of people who are more reclusive. I even enjoy meeting people I don't get along with. I like people who can coax me out of my initial shyness with ease. I love kids... and no, I don't have any.Teach, Learn, ShareI can teach you some mean dishes, if you like to eat, and I can help you explore your creative side through painting, drawing, etc. I can teach you to teach kids, if that's your thing. Maybe we can get into an M-theory conversation, as well. One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneBackpacking solo throughout Europe... and continuing the trip after having been completely robbed. It was fantastic, and I wouldnt have had it any other way.
Getting stranded on the tip of Harder Kulm in Interlaken, Switzerland, with a 70 lb pack trying to navigate my way down on a nonexistant trail in the dead of night while huge bucks are getting their jollies by jumping right in front of me scaring the life out of me... that was a hell of a hike!!!! I hope to do it again sometime.
Burning Man is ALWAYS amazing... especially when you do it with CSers. See you there.Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectThis is by far one of the greatest, if not THE, of ideas in modern history. So far, it's been absolutely amazing.... I think I'll be a lifelong user. ;)
That being said... it is SO very annoying when the site arbitrarily (at least seemingly), that I'm in Potwin, Kansas. And when the site is buggy, but I suppose those gripes are more for developers and not the actual project.Locations TraveledTRAVELED: Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United States, Vatican WANTS TO GO: Antarctica, Australia, Egypt, Fiji, Greece, India, Ireland (Republic of), Jamaica, Japan, Lebanon, Morocco, Nepal, Philippines, Spain, Thailand, Ukraine, Zimbabwe
What do these numbers mean?
This summary is not a replacement for reading references; it's a quick summary to help you get started. At a glance, you can see how many references a member has, and how many of them are positive, neutral, and negative.
In the second line, you'll see how many references came from people who hosted this member, surfed with them, and traveled with them. These numbers won't always add up to the total: some references are not categorized, and some may be categorized as more than one thing.
When viewing this summary, don't jump to conclusions! Things that are negative for one person may be positive for another, and vice versa. It's important to read references carefully and evaluate what that information means to you. References (166)165Positive 1Neutral 0Negative

From Matthew Newman-Saul Ventura, United States May 16 Positive I suspect if cats wore pajamas they would have Klaire printed fabric. If bees had knees (do they?) they would bend when she entered the bar... Anyway, you have made me feel very much at home in Seattle and I hope I get to keep hanging out with you and your amazing CS crew. You are the marmoset's toenails and the giraffe's underoos.
From VinodMorsa Bangalore, India May 10 Positive I am very sorry for such a late reference :( Thanks for having our halloween pic in your pictures.
Seattle city - where i knew no one and was wondering if i would be able to kill time for 2 months. I meet klaire on my 2nd day and i could not find enough time in a day after that, she would pack me with lots and lots of activities. This had become my most memorable 2 months. HUGE thanks to my dearest friend. She is a super cool person , She shows utmost care & compassion for every visitor to this city. Her parties are the best in town and it would be a understatement :) I still remember the Halloween party with 25 complete strangers and still having best time.
I am not good at writing, I would make stories after my next visit to seattle .. Yes, I am coming :)
From Irshad Qazi Mohammad Streamwood, United States Apr 30 Positive very friendly, personable, polite and gr8 to talk to.
From Nico Hoffmann Friedrichshafen, Germany Apr 5 Positive Klaire ist great and kinda a CS professional - in a great way :) I stayed at her place for three nights as my last stop of my west coast roadtrip. Even though I was very short on time and therefore exploring the city in quite a rush, she, her roommates and friends welcomed me very warmly at their place and were great hosts. I have no doubt that they will be amazing hosts for everyone else as well as very intelligent, witty and fun surfers - crush their couch or offer them yours, it's totally worth it!
From Isaac Clerencia Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Apr 1 Positive Klaire hosted me when I was kind of stranded in Seattle, for which I am already incredibly grateful :D
She and her roommates are all great and fun, we spent some time together on the weekly CS meeting and then went on a few other pubs on our own.
Unfortunately they were quite busy during the day and I was quite tired/jet-lagged in the nights, so couldn't hang out with them as much as I would have liked. My two nights ended up with me falling sleep in the couch while people talked, shame on me :D
From Thibault Boucher Los Angeles, United States Mar 22 Positive Klaire is simply awesome! Like her city! I have to admit that it was kinda last-minute but she welcomed me very warmly in her nice house. I met one of her friends who was really cool too! I could not go to a concert with her because i didn't have my passport: FOREIGNERS, if u go to the state of Washington, ID is not enough, u need your passport to go out!
Anyway, it was my first couch surfing experience ever (wouhouu) and it was perfect! Thanks Klaire :)
From Victoria Evert Seattle, United States Feb 22 Positive To me, Klaire is Seattle Couch Surfing. She is fun, witty, and a lovely human being. It seems that every great memory I have involving CS in Seattle, she is present, with her awesome hair and friendship. She throws mean parties, makes delicious food (recently all raw, yum.), and is the person to know in the area. If you are in Seattle, you must get to know this ambassador of awesome.
From Florian Becquereau Seattle, United States Feb 13 Positive The Seattle's CouchSurfing community would be very different without Klaire. She has tons of great ideas that fit with, and improve connecting the CS-Seattle community, among its members and outside. She's also an artist and an art lover, and I hope to eventually get more familiar with this topic with Klaire's help. I just need to stop overscheduling and have time to attend these events :)
From Jill+Alice = Jalice May Suwon, South Korea Feb 9 Positive Klaire was one of the organizers for Burningman Couchburners 2011 and she did a fantastic job. Everything was really comfortable and efficient and fun. I didn't get much of a chance to hang out with her one on one but, but I was proud to burn with her just the same.
From Mark Petersma Seattle, United States Feb 9 Positive Klaire is the embodiment of Seattle Couchsurfing, which really means she's just the embodiment of awesomeness. She's always down for all kinds of fun and is wonderful organizer of CS events. Klaire always brightens my day when I see her at CS events!
