Marianne invited us for a fantastic typical norwegian dinner, we were sitting together laughing a lot, talking about this and that. I really enjoyed that evening. Thank you!

A party is only as fun as the guests that are there :) And Marianne is an amazing person to have a party with. Would love to see you again next time :)

She's the ambassador for Oslo CS group at the moment I write this lines and she's doing a great job at trying to organize events and keep the community together. And great fun to hang out with.

 

I first met Marianne in Utrecht, during the MidSummerNight weekend there. When I was in Olso, she was so kind to host us, which was great! Ow, and the Costa Ricean food was delicious!

When I first hopped off that train, got on another train and eventually entered the airport looking for this person who I had spent the better part of my online life for the last 9 months chatting with it was a relief and a burst of excitement to see Marianne's smiling face! Some amazing things she does:
1. Let's me speak crappy Spanish to her without squeeling that I am hurting her ears
2. Cooks (and I "help" by just being in the kitchen with her)
3. Mutual i-pod rocking out...even in public!
4. Can share a mutual silence without the need to talk non stop
5. Paints nails
6. Listens when she talks!!!

Sooooooo glad to have met this awesome chica and have her in my life. Hopefully your expereince with her will me awesome as well...but really, mine was the best :P

 

grrrr, one of her probably favorit sounds. one of, right. this powerful woman talks a lot. and I can't imagine that anyone wouldn't love to listen to her funny, lovely, interesting... stories. It was an amazing time hosting her and during the cs paella.

When Marianne smiles (which happens very often) she does not only do it with her face but with her soul. Marianne was one of the first CS-persons I met in Oslo and from moment nr 1, she made me feel at ease. Funny, generous, talktive, creative, devoted to and truly beliver in CS... I'm happy to have met her and hope to get to know her better, I'm sure we'll have plenty of opportunities for that :-)

We had a lovely dinner here in Athens with our freind Kalliope!I enjoy her company and i hope we will meet again:)

We had a somewhat long walk with Marianne around the Acropolis & then went to meet up with other cs friends. It sure was to pleasure to meet this lady. She knows how to enjoy ice scream, she has a very good sense of humour and is a great teaser, she is a good conversationalist, Marianne is just great. looking forward to see you again my friend! we have this Greek alphabet lesson pending.

 

Marianne is just amazing! From the moment we picked her up at the airport until now, she always has a smile ready whenever I'm within her sight. Meeting her was like meeting an old friend, with the slight difference that we haven't met before. Definitely one of my best CS experiences ever!

Marianne is nice person, who has time to organize CS meeting in Oslo. I appriciate this. She organized interview for norwegian TV about CS in Norway/Oslo.

Marianne is a very open, nice, polite and enthusiastic person. Comfortable to be with and interesting to talk with. Very passionate about Couchsurfing and traveling around the world. Willing to share her own experiences and to teach others. We enjoyed a long dinner together and had lots of fun. Looking forward to meet her again.

 

We've worked together under the MDST unmbrela since Jan. 2008, and have become closer and closer. We interact daily and when we finally met in person in London (Jan. 2009), it was just like seeing an old friend. Met again for a lovely weekend in Switzerland and then had the honor to host her in Athens. She's an amazing person...the kind you find at the end of the rainbow, i guess. She's very tolerant, very easy going, very independent traveler and a really good listener. I really enjoyed having her around, though i was mad busy with work. Can't wait till next time!

 

She offered to host me during the Oslo NYE 08/09 week and to be honest, I don't know how she managed. Even though she wasn't feeling too well, was organizing the party and the activities and hosting between 3-5 people a night, she still managed to be a great host! Amazing! She's very open, sincere, smiley, friendly and likeable, and she makes you feel at home instantly! Glad I had the chance to meet her.

 

Oh my dear Machita, we keep bumping each other and I was glad to meet again in Sinterklass in Rotterdam. Im sure we did have something more to talk about and it is all interesting:-) See you soon at Paella 2009!:-)

 

Marianne, was the best co-pilot in the adventure to bring home some CS singing souls..and dancing in the car... Ok the GPS were setted on "pedestrian" so almost drop on a river.. but vespamobile doesn't like cold water.

Very, very, very positive and enthusiastic person! With her smiling and listening to you she makes you believe she's your best friend after a couple of minutes of talk. I hope we stay in touch, Marianna, and that maybe one day you'll visit me in Wroclaw, Poland! :)

Marieanne, the lovely, intelligent, and pefectly insane Norwegian- came to Houston for work, and we spent HOURS and DAYS together in cafes, IHOP's, and anywhere we could stand and talk. She's crazy in the most wonderful way and has non-stop energy. She's heavily involved in the growth of couchsurfing, and an invaluable resource to any traveller, as her tireless efforts make her 'THE connection' to so many things. She's also a phenomenal 'be all, end all' party planner. I guarantee you will NEVER forget having met her.

 

I met 'Machita' on my very first CS meeting ever in Oslo spetember 30th. The meeting was great, she was great and told me quite a bit about her CS experience and involvment. You're doing a great job!

Although we never met through CS, she is the most delightfull host you can find: funny, smart, easy going, has a lot of issues to talk about. I?ve been a friend of hers for many years, first as we met in Norway, then as a penpal, then emailed and always talked about our lives , and I can surely trust and always have a nice advice and a nice word form her...

 

I had no idea people could connect almost literally in the blink of an eye. We met at Vince's in Switzeland. We started talking on the way back from the lake and never stopped talking ever since. Marianna is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. With her beautiful smile and great sense of humor, she could make the whole world smile. I'm so grateful to have met such a nice friend. Miss you!

We met in the CS meeting in Stockholm and she seems a very nice girl!

Marianne is simply amazing. No other words will do her justice. I struggled with writing a good enough reference for her. Just trust me, no matter how many words are written, they won't be enough.

I really enjoyed our special times together before and after the paella. We spent much time laughing. At times so much that tears were coming out. Always ready to give/recieve a hug. Not the ones given in passing, but truly special heartfelt ones. She has helped me see a little more into CS. She is absolutely committed 150% percent. Helping me with my often silly questions. Laughing with, not at me (even though I deserve it at times) I also enjoyed our quiet moments. You know the ones....where words just weren't necessary or expected.

I really am impressed with you Marianne. Such a good soul. I wished I could write a better reference and if there was an extremely positive or higher I could give you, I would.

Mariane is such a positive, great person. She's very receptive and empathetic, getting me to feel even more at ease with myself than I normally am. Perfect connection! I met her first at the Paella 2008, but only got to talk with her some more around the 2009 Paella. I wish I could see her right now, just to make her laugh and give her a hug. She seriously left a great impression on me, she's a great friend and I care about her a lot. I hope I can see her and talk to her more sometime soon again, but even if it's in 3 years we will connect like it was yesterday. Thanks for existing, Marianne!

 

I have chatted a long time with Marianne about the CS NYE meeting in Norway wich I finally didn't attend beceause of job reasons for me at home.
In June I finally got the chance to meetup with Marianne where I experienced that it is so much fun to be around with her.
Great that she came to Utrecht and later we met again in Switzerland wich was 200% enjoyable to meet her again.
Even After Switzerland i was very happy to see her again at the Sinterklaas event and best of all I even got the best christmas card ever from her.
I think a visit to Norway is one of the things I would like to do now. Not beceause of the country but mostly beceause of this very nice person/party animal/drinking buddy/chat buddy.

 

I had so much fun with her preparing for the Paella. We talked a lot even at night when we surfed the same couch.
She is a go backer and she also likes to drink beer. it was nice to meet you maybe next time in Oslo.

 

We spent time together at Peiro's place during the CS Paella event. We had such a great time together trying to get the party ready. Marianne is very helpful nice lady and she is the real asset for the Paella party and CS community. Really nice to know you and work together with you. Hope to see you again soon!
Update July 09: Well we met again in LA last year and then Paella this month for the second time. As usual Marianne is one of the true friends that I always looking forward to meet. Too bad you wasnt in Oslo when I was there. I saved the rest of Oslo for my next visit cuz its not a visit without visiting you at your home base:-) Looking forward to see you again..

 

Marianne helped me a lot organizing the CouchSurfing Paella 2008. I couldn't have done without her. She's gentle, funny, hilarious and caring even when she's got a cold. Looking forward to meet that honey-bunny everywhere in Europe again. Don't forget the whale, though...

 

A such great woman! I knew about it before from our common friend Flavio. And, from the Paella meeting, i can say: Marianne is REALLY amazing, always smiling, very friendly, and POSITIVE.

It was fun meeting Marianne again in Switzerland after getting to know her in Stockholm a month ago.

She is a wonderful combination of seriousness and sillyness, activeness and relaxedness whith plenty of fun stories and beautiful pictures.

I met her at the first part of the CS nordic meeting, we spent good time to talk about travelling and else, she is someone who love humor so we had good connection, always up to meet new people, helpfull & also really involved in CS, i can say that, if u come to Olso u ll have to meet her !

 

We met and met and met again yet didn't get around last time to talk much more than a couple of lines at the very, vey busy weekend. There were a lot of people and had to play too, but we'll catch up later to have a longer chat. Maybe when GigSwap goes Scandinavian?

 

Her enthousiasm is infectious. whenever i saw her during midsummer there was a smile on her face. It was great to host her and her friend Fernando. I can't wait to come to Norway for Ney Years. Already working to the travelplans!

I had a really good time with marianne in our treasurehunt group. Our group won the treasurehunt!!!
Marianne is great to talk to, and makes you laugh a lot. and her spanish is really good!

Very nice, friendly person. The kind of person that laughts about herself as much as about others.She seemed very spontaneous and mature. We didn't have much time to talk at great length but I'm sure we'll meet again and change that positive into extremely...

 

Marianne was giving a workshop about CS safety during the CS Midsummernight event in Utrecht 21 June 2008 and she did that quit well. She's a fluent speaker and listener at the same time. Now I wonder if she's a good host too, hence I will go her hometown Oslo end of the year, most probably, to be confirmed soon!

I heard her speaking another language and I was fascinated, so I had to ask about her background. I was pleasantly surprised by it! She was very nice and cheery and I hope to be able to talk to her more the next time we see each other!

We meet at the Utrecht CS Midsummer event where she held a workshop about the CS security team, it was a great presentation with plenty of time for discussion. It was a pleasure meeting her!

 

Impressive to see how Marianne gets from responsible safety-volunteer to crazy partyperson in just a few seconds. All it takes is some good music or drinks. Thanx for the help on midsummer and a good time. Hope to be in Oslo for newyear.

Marianne and I were hosted at the same time by Liza and Jasper in Utrecht, where the midsummer night festivities were organised. Although we haven't spoke that much she seems to be a nice and friendly person.

Was für eine super Frau, witzig, umgänglich, lieb und sehr feiernd. Einfach eine tolle Type.

 

Marianne is such a friendly and calm and happy Couchsurfer that I hope lots of other Couchsurfer will get the chance to meet her. We had great conversations about Couchsurfing, Safety and her smile makes one feel good when she is around.

Marianne is a ray of sunshine in the often cold and gray Nordic landscape. She always has a kind word or encouragement and a helping hand for anyone who needs it, even when she's under the weather herself. She hosted an entire houseful of guests for Oslo's NYE party even though she already had her hands full organizing and preparing for the party and follow-up events and dealing with a very nasty cold! She takes great care of her guests and everyone around her. Thanks so much for a great weekend!

The melons of this girl are legendary, especially when prepared with vodka. They also go very well along with black olives on chicken breast. Ok, lets stop the insiders´ stuff...
I met Marianne when I hosted Anick-Marie and Peter and we spent some time together at my place and in the city before we went to Sannas´ BBQ. Later we continued the evening in a bar followed by the ultimate roof party at my house. I will never forget her nice laughing and she laughs a lot. Fact is she appears to me like happiness walking on two legs. Next day we met again to enjoy the sun and later had a nice dinner at Fernandos balcony. And still I have the feeling we did not spend enough time together. Hey, didn´t you mention you came back in a few days???

I had a awesome time surfing Marianne´s couch in Oslo.
Even though her couch was absolutely comfy I actually don't refer to it, but to the wonderful quality time I spent with Marianne while getting to know her culture, favorite places & her oh so crazy spicy-spontaneous-wacky food she cooked!
She was so friendly and her hospitality goes beyond ones expectations.
She is a crazy Norwegian girl contaged by a dangerous virus called Costarican latin lifestyle-mentality & I am sure when it comes to have an amazing CS experience, she´s definitely the right person to count with.
Just dancing to the latin beat of her music collection while cooking, having the opportunity to meet some of her friends or spending hours looking at the Norwegian coast enjoying those sunny precious days in Norway are memories I won´t forget.
It is worth also to mention she is a devoted CS Volunteer who contributes to our community to make of it a safer one. Day by day.

Marianne was main organizer of NYE party in Oslo, after chatting and talking, first time we met at a skating rink :) She is full of energy, don't tell me you are 100% Norwegian :p

 

I have known Marianne for quite some time online, we got to meet in person in Oxford, and I finally got to stay with her in Oslo in August 2008. She is a great host - the couch is extremely comfortable, she's got a great kitchen and is fun to cook for (and is also a great cook, too!). I had a lot of fun staying with her, and hope to repeat the experience (and return the hospitality) in the not-too-distant future.

 

Have now known each other on and offline for about a year now. Missed out on her infamous NYE party (which she loves to remind me about! :-/) however managed to eventually host and spend sometime with her having chatted way too much over skype and while working together on the MDST hehe Marianne is trustworthy and honourable and a pleasure to host, a real dedicated member of the CS team!

Marianne is one of these people I'm so happy to finally know on CS. We didn't know each other before working together but we started then to have lots of conversations, from silly topics to meaningful conversation, as well as work topics. We carry the same CS addiction, although I believe she's deeper in than me. I stayed with her 9 days and visited her mom in the countryside... Marianne is direct enough, absolutely honest, generous and for me, a wonderful woman :) Host her anywhere :)

i've had the pleasure to give her my welcome in Ascoli Piceno spending good time together, also if we haven't the chance to talk a lot...I'm looking forward to see you again in Lago di Vico meeting...have a nice trip, enjoy Italy!

 

Having worked together virtual side-by-virtual side for over a year and half, sharing sadness, joy, hopes, frustrations, work and personal, we have finally met and spent a week together at the MDST working meet-up in St Gallen, Switzerland, preceding the CS Paella 2009 (7 people spending days and nights in a one-bedroom apartment - and we haven't killed each other! That should tell you something ;).
Marianne is loving, motherly, caring. She brought food for the whole team from Norway, and insisted on cooking for all of us (and made great meals with attracting very little attention, quickly and very efficiently).
You can talk to M about anything (well, at least I can).
Her talents as a masseuse have received just as wide a recognition (at the Paella, there was a long line for her massage - and justly so).
If you are headed to meet her, remember: she has sweet tooth!

She introduced me to couchsurfing. Her commitement and love for couchurfing is amazing! You can not talk to here without becoming as enthusiatic as she is!

I stayed with Marianne the first time in April 2007... she was a wonderful and warm host. She hosted me and my racer Dominykas, during our last days in Norway after races. She made us feel very welcome!

So welcome in fact, that I came back in November with my friend Anze for a girls' weekend... Marianne was sick the whole time, but still managed to organize some parties and entertainment... the best part was warm rolls out of the oven at breakfast!

We had such a great weekend that we convinced her to buy a plane ticket to Vilnius to see Mamma Mia and party with US! She's open, friendly, easygoing and fun, and now not only a CS friend, but truly a good friend and great girl to have around. Can't wait for Ireland!!!

APRIL 2008 - Marianne was sweet enough to have me back, this time with TWO of my skiers, for an night in Oslo, and was even making a chocolate cake for us when we arrived! She really is the greatest host you'll ever meet!

I think i felt a string of sympathy appearing when she first entered our apartment. she is a great person to go for lunch or a coffee with, very interested in a lot of things and great partner for chats and laughs. also she si very dedicated to CS! Marianne is a very smart girl. We had a great time in San Jose. Also went to the Palmares festival. She's been doing a great job volunteering on the site!

Marianne organized the NYE party in Oslo and did a wonderful job!! Did not know almost anybody but the atmosphere was so good that seemed that we all knew each other for a while. Unfortunately I did not really talk to her but hope to meet her again & have the chance to get to know her a bit better.

 

Marianita what can i say? She´s so funny, nice, talkative and easygoing girl, if u wanna know what the spirit of CS is, just visit and meet her!!! me and my friend felt home when we met her!!! Fun and great hospitality is guaranteed, just remember to be a good Kubb player ;-)... What can i say about Marianne that nobody already said that! Besides open-mind..bla bla, she has a heart of GOLD. She is fascinating and lovely to talk with. She smiling like heaven :)
It is a little difficult to write for people that you know them already for a long time.

Marianne was the first person I met in cs gathering since I moved to Oslo. She is 100% dedicated to couchsrufing community which I appreciate it. I had a pleasure to work with her for organizing the cs NYE party in Oslo 2009.

 

Marianne made the CS NYE Party @ Oslo, a Super party! She is a great CS ambassador and #1 host. I hope to see her in Helsinki in a near future.

Marianne is an adorable woman. She is fun, intelligent, wicked, loud, giggles a lot and has also quite a serious side to her personality. We first met when we were co-hosted in Rome. After having heard about her, we finally met at bbq party. I was curious to meet you.
We talked a bit when we were both helping for foods & beverages. After she was so drunk to talk more ;D maybe next time'd be better!

She is always smiling and very nice, easy going and likes to have fun. she was a big help with the organization of our camping at the lake. we shared a cabin, ate, danced and enojyed a nice fire. She is a very interesting and caring person!

Because of our friend in common(Giampy) i got to know her through some stories told by Giampy:-) And then meeting her in person at the wonderful Vico lake was only the confirmation how nice she is! She helped to organise the weekend and was spreading good mood around her! Yeah, the world is small so see you around!

 

Marianne and Ovind (..sorry..i don't have that O with the /;-)) were in my home in Rome for 3 nights. Perfect guests, easy going, funny..always smiling, kind of "no problem" people! We had some very good moments together going around in Rome or just sitting and talking..or listening to music together at the window at 4 o'clock in the night! I will not forget that :-) Thank you Marianne..baci ai pupi!

Marianne is a very kind and welcoming person. My first CS experience and she was The best! First night she cooked for Andrea, Øyvind and me a norwegian dish! She speaks perfect spanish so it was easy to make jokes and laugh. We had a great time together, I feel she is half costarican! We had so much fun!!!

I spent an evening with her, Øyvind and Lina in her house. She cooked Får-i-kål (a traditional norwegian dish -> yummie) and baked a cake for us. Marianne is a very nice and easy-going person. To meet her was a extremly positive experience for me. This evening will stay in my mind!

A sweet girl I met in Costa Rica who always laughed and cruised around Costa Rica like a local. Very impressive Spanish and delight to be with. I've stayed in touch with her since 1999, and haven't seen her since! But hopefully will do in the near future.

I am eternally grateful to Marianna for accepting me into her home on such extremely short notice. I was stranded in Oslo after having my wallet and Passport stolen and Marianna was happy to let me stay in her place until I got myself sorted out. I just wish we could have had more of an opportunity to get to know each other.

 

I met Marianne properly the first time at the Midsummer CS camp, and had a great time at the fire, with her making me laugh a lot!
And then, we met again at the Hvitsten CS chat camp, where after I couchsurfed at her place for nearly a week. mmmh... where to start??? She makes an excellent cook & baker! Don't listen to her, if she tells you that what ever you eat, is supposed to taste differently, look differently and is not what it is supposed to be like - it will be goooood! She is a fantastic communication partner... who had to listen to my babble (not so much the quantity...) for several days in a row... she survived, which proves her to be a very patient person and she is also a good listener... CS is somehow her life. She is presumably the most active member I have meet so far. And she cares a lot about other people's welfare within CS. She is one of those people I sometimes wished I could "cut a slice of" because they are great and I have a lot of respect for them (that's getting really soppy at the end... but I mean it - so take the schmalz out).
Oh... and I forgot - she introduced me to searching for mushrooms, though she seems to have some particularly well adapted 'mushroom eyes'

First I got Marianne`s CS link from a friend who knows Marianne`s friend. Then I wrote her an e-mail, and she answered me right away and soon we were chatters at MSN. Since we had so much to talk about, I invited her for dinner the same day. That was really nice. Marianne was a very sweet person, and right away, we had a lot to talk about! I`m moving to Costa Rica soon, and she shared her experience from CR with me, wich I appretiated a lot!
I would CS at Marianne`s place anytime, cause she seemed like a very happy, positive, friendly and Pura Vida like person!

Marianne is an enthusiastic and loving person! We have already had a lot of fun together. I trust her a lot.

Definitely the best person to start one's adventure with couchsurfing! Marianne is all smile and grin which makes people around her feel welcomed, cozy and as comfortable as one might be at home. Funny, but in this nothern cold country she radiates with warmth as exotic as that one might expect to find on some exotic island.. With which I wish her to have as much to do as she would like to;)

I went to my CS in Oslo this week, and I loved it,was just one sad thing: "not enough time to talk with everybody" but the few people I talked with they were extremely nice:-)Marianne,she is a very nice girl,very friendly, we gone meet soon again,because I did not have enough time talking with her,I want to know her much better:-)

The first time i met her was on a CS BBQ in Oslo. My first experience with CS, which was a good one. Marianne is a nice,positive and funny person..

 

Marianne is a great girl. We stayed together at bente's place at the chat addict meeting in norway. We picked mushrooms and berries together, she saw al the mushrooms we missed. The berries became a great sauce for the waffels she maked and the mushrooms where very good too.

Marianne is full of positiveness and laughter, and has done lots of work to make our Oslo meetings as Great as they are. She is fun to talk with, and has a Great Plan in her life. Ask her when you meet :) And yes, we've agreed to try to drink each other under the table one day..

She was only there a couple of days but in those days she made me laugh and enough fOOd to burst! Invited to Glaschu anytime!!

Met Marianne at Chat Addicts Meet 2007, and surfed with her and Surfer Sam. Marianne is great fun, always laughing. She's a great host and will cook anything from fish curry to choc chip cookies. Come and surf sometime Marianne! Coo-ookies!!!!

I believe our arrival was strange a bit, because we couldn't find her house at once, but as soon as we met, the feeling was that we had known each other for years. Marianne is very cheerful, helpful and ingenuous, so it was a pleasure to stay in her house.

We met at an Oslo CS meeting were we cool discussions about many things from strange cs requests to whatever :) She's a super host in Oslo!

Update: After some month, she became a good true friend, now she is surfing our couch, not for sleeping, but more for sharing and talking. I found out by the time that she has a lot to give and really loves being in a social environment.
Background: Marianne saved our life! I was with my girl in Oslo looking for a roof for the week end, everything cheap was fully booked. I send a message on Oslo group and then Marianne replied.
I spent 4 really nice evenings. She is patient (I asked her thousands of questions about Norwegian), she's fun, has a lot of human experiences, reliable, and has the sense of hospitality.
She made our setting down in Oslo and our integration very much easier.

Marianne is a extremely nice girl, very kind and friendly. She hosted my friends Giampiero and Alessandro and I spent with her very nice evenings eating, drinking and dancing in Oslo. Thank you very much and see you soon in Italy.

Update May 22nd - I ain't gonna repeat what Marianne said about our relationship recently but that's surely why the chemistry between us worked so well !

She and some other CS members organized a gathering for the Norway National Day in 2007. She managed to group 15 persons from all around the world. She his very friendly and always smiling. If you need a couch or someone to talk to, she is the right girl!

I met Marianne on Norway's national holiday at a local CS-meeting. She is very positive and friendly. And she taught me that it is never too cold for ice cream. Thank you very much for organizing the meeting so perfectly.

 

Marianne is extremely energetic and positive. Easy to talk to and relate. She organized a great National Day of activities and it was just a perfect day with new friends! Ps- her cat is adorable!

 

Marianne took all the trouble to gather several CS's members for the National Day in Oslo. She is a great person, with a nice laugh!!! We had a lot of fun BBQ in Oslo.
