About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live authentically while exchanging fascinating stories with equally-fascinating people, wherever I need to go to find them.

ABOUT ME

Having lived as a quasi nomad for 5 years, (stuff in storage, house-sitting, visiting distant friends, subletting apartments...) it recently hit me that while I've always *SAID I'd like to travel, before now, I've played it pretty safe. My Light-Bulb Moment came by asking when "one day I'd like to really travel" was going to actually happen. Aha! So now I'm involved in a little shift. Branching out, I started actively seeking out domestic adventures for a while, seeing new places, meeting new people... Then? Once I get my feet wet, expand my comfort zone a bit... it'll be time for some Serious Travel. But this kind is amazing, too.

Creative, happy, extrovert, ENFP, Aquarius, grateful...

PHILOSOPHY

Every challenging situation can be handled with anxiety or laughter, with nervousness or anticipation. If I have limited control over what's going to happen next, and worrying can't change the outcome, why then, shouldn't I at least approach the hurdles thinking they're going to work out okay in the end? Turns out they generally do!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Brand new to CouchSurfing, I'm reading profiles, immersing myself in the shared adventures of other members. Having turned a few like-minded friends onto this site, I look forward to meeting other members and trading some stories.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

From a family home in which our friends always stayed as long as they liked, I later became a college student with a glorious apartment where friends and sometimes their friends crashed for weeks on end. Those days were filled with vicarious living through others' stories as they journeyed in and out of the state... and the country.

The "go to person" for at least 6 different friends/families needing intermittent house/pet-sitting help, I'm thrilled and honored to have keys to so many of my friends' homes. Their trust in my responsibility and integrity, and enjoyment of my company, have laid the perfect foundation for my moving into the CS community. Can't wait to meet some of you!

Interests

Writing, photography, music, designing, playing in clay, trading stories with interesting people, cooking, trying new things, learning, and generally looking for ways to laugh as often as possible...

Music is usually about mood. Some I enjoy: Sia, Train, The Eagles, Sting, KT Tunstall, Sarah McLachlan, Sting, Chopin, Eric Clapton, David Ford, Pomplamoose, Jamie Cullum, Jason Mraz, Melissa Ethridge, Iron & Wine, Radiohead, Louis Armstrong, ABBA, Paul Simon, Molly McGinn, John Butler Trio, CCR, U2, Van Morrison, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Five for Fighting, Imogen Heap, Ian Moore, Marc Broussard

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Putting 95% of my things in storage, giving up my home, and freeing myself from traditional obligations, while meeting so many fascinating people in my wanderings, has been pretty amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Several years back, I spent an enormous amount of time throwing pots and creating pendants from clay. I've passed my wheel and kiln and clay and tools on to my mom, but when I get a chance, I always get my hands in clay for the centering delight the sensations bring me. When at home, I would be happy to introduce others to some remarkable potters and clay artists.

It also gives me great pleasure to help people fearful or hesitant of technology learn a few things to make their lives a little easier. Members of this community will likely have a lower representative of technophobes, but in my daily rhythms, I frequently help others navigate their computers more confidently. (Note: I'm really only "half a geek" so please don't read this as an assertion of great accomplishments with computers. I'm merely self-taught in my areas of interest and well-recall the anxiety and awe during the days I watched each others navigate their computers with such ease. As a result, I've embraced opportunities to learn as much as I can while passing along what help I can in this arena.)
