No couch currently available for surfing.  Winter 2009/2010: I moved in with my girlfriend, and find myself very busy with my job. Hosting surfers isn't as easy as when I was a single, full time student.
I can occasionally host 1 surfer at a time, but I have to limit it these days, as I can't host a lot of surfers constantly like I did in the past. Weekends are not so good for hosting. Your profile and request will have to be approved by my girlfriend too. Please be approximately 25-30 years old, with at least several references and at least 1 vouch from another highly-vouched surfer already. I can probably only host you a max of 2 nights. Sadly, I don't have so much free time to show you around Boston anymore, but I can tell you all the great things you should see and do while you're here.

My flat is located near Porter Square, a 10 minute walk to the subway, a 15 minute walk to Harvard University, and a 20 minute subway ride to downtown Boston. Technically, I do not live in Boston, but in Somerville and on the border with Cambridge. Boston "proper" is south of the Charles river.
I live with my girlfriend (not on CS). We have a nice apartment and prefer to keep it very clean and neat. We also have a tourist book, maps, and metro cards you can borrow while here. Cigarettes should be smoked outside. I have a pet cat too, so hopefully you aren't allergic to cats =(^.^)=
I prefer hosting people with complete profiles, who write personalized couch requests, and have requested to surf with me because they think we'd actually enjoy hanging out together. Also, I prefer that you be at least 21 years old, due to the drinking age laws in Boston that are very strictly enforced (you'll have to stay home while I go out at night - that is no fun!)
Please don't request to surf more than 2 weeks in advance, since it is too hard for me to predict my schedule that far ahead.
Since I work normal daytime hours, I would prefer you leave our flat in the morning and return when we get home from work. We both try to go out at least a few nights a week, so you can sometimes join us, or we can recommend cool places. Friends (194)

I was a Boston CS ambassador from 2007-2009, but now I'm a "retired" alumnus.
I've helped improve the excellent CS Boston Wiki Page as well as the wiki pages on requesting couches and how to be a good guest, too. Here's my wiki contribution history.
Hosting, surfing...I know some good skyline views of the city of Boston... I also have a copy of a traveler's guidebook to Boston you can borrow while you're in town, to help you find the stuff you're most interested in doing while here.CouchSurfing ExperienceI've hosted 75 surfers from 22 countries, with about a 50-50 male to female ratio. My surfers have come from America, Mexico, Canada, Venezuela, Chile, England, Belgium, The Netherlands, Sweden, France, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Russia, Iran, Israel, Qatar, India, Australia, Singapore, and South Korea.
I've surfed in 12 cities and 10 countries: NYC, Tokyo, Osaka, Brussels, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Ljubljana and Zagreb.
I've attended gatherings in Boston, London, and NYC. I often hang out with the Boston CS crowd, where I was a city ambassador from 2007-2009.
I've been interviewed by the biggest newspaper in Boston for a front page (below the fold) news article on cs! That newspaper article earned me an invitation to speak about my CS experiences to a classroom full of college kids, and one of my surfers joined me (Luba). Music, Movies, BooksMusic: synthpop, bedroom-disco, post rock, dub, electro house, ambient, indie, krautrock, folk, groove, down tempo. Radio: I listen to National Public Radio commuting to and from work, usually these programs are my favorite: All Things Considered, BBC World Service, Marketplace and On Point. This keeps me relatively well informed on news and politics compared to the average American.
Movies: drama, dystopia. I'm trying to whittle away at the AFI's Top 100 Movie list.
Books: Dostoevsky, Hemingway, Steinbeck, Vonnegut, and Murakami. Garcia Marquez. I also like a lot of pop-economics books.
Foods: Diet ginger ales. Maple syrup infused peanut butters. Really bitter IPA beers. High cocoa chocolates. Boneless buffaloes. Crumbly blue cheeses. Tuna melts. Diet cokes. Dark coffees. Oh, yeah, I'm not a very big person, so if you are a big person, it might not be very easy for me to teach you wrestling moves. I was in the the 'featherweight' category!
One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done I've floated in the Dead Sea while I was in Israel. It was one of the weirdest sensations ever! Ask me in person about the "burning sensation" ;)

I stayed in Boston with my Cousin so I never surfed his couch but he was a really great host. He carried me to some cs gatherings introduced myself to his friends and of course we had some great partys together. We had some really great conversations (just remembering when we met first for watching NBA playoffs and he explained law 401k to me) and it was always fun hanging aroung with him ! Hopefully we will meet again someday somewhere in Boston or Frankfurt or even somewhere else.
@Couchsurfers: If you have to chance to meet him just do it !

Shortly after seeing my request for an emergency couch, Mike stepped up to the plate and offered to host me. Not only was he nice, but extremely knowledgeable about both CS and Boston, and a lot of fun too! Despite having work the next morning, he stayed up later than he probably should have and chatted with me about all sorts of random stuff. Cambridge is only an hour away and my trip was work related, not my usual travel scenario. But Mike was awesome, he helped me plan my routes, introduced me to great himalayan food and a sweet local bar all on his off nights. It's appropriate that Mike was the one to introduce me to couchsurfing, because he certainly exemplifies the "model citizen" in this community!
Mike is polite, clean, well-spoken, and friendly. When he hosted over 30 couchsurfers at our place last summer, he always had a guidebook on hand and often took our guests on personalized tours of Boston. He always is good for conversation, with a lot to say (and an open mind) about a range of topics from politics to favorite types of beer.
Mike is curious, intelligent, and respectful, and I'm sure he has a lot of traveling and hosting ahead of him. He was a great roommate and would be a wonderful guest as well.

Especially our X-Box night, followed by a CS meeting, was very nice! Mike is a very nice and openminded person, and knows a lot about many subjects. We had a great time listening to the POP's rehearsal concert, watching a rainstorm from one of the best secret spots in Boston, and making peace between the jocks and geeks at a fellow couchsurfers theme party.
I highly recommend meeting up with Mike when your in town- he's a great host, and quite the nice guy.

If he's looking for a couch, I recommend hosting him -- he'll be up for going out, staying in, or whatever you want to do. If you're looking for a couch, let him know. He's got an awesome place in Boston (although he's not there right now) and will show you around. If you need someone to travel with, give him a shout. We had a great time in Budapest.

From Matthew Jones Boston, United States Apr 10, 2008 Positive Atlas... Atlas... what can I say? I've know Atlas for at least four years now, and I cannot say anything but positive things about him. We both know each other from the Comp Sci program at NU, and our friendship started out at an academic level. Working together throughout the semesters I quickly saw that Mike is a very intelligent guy with a lot to offer to anyone he encounters. His vast knowledge of various subjects is astonishing and he is constantly sharing this information with me.
As time went on, our friendship evolved from the academic level, and Atlas is an amazing guy and absolutely fun to be around. He motivates me on a weekly basis to get off my lazy ass at times and go out with him to meet new people and try new things. (That is how I ended up a CSer myself now) Seemingly everywhere I go and the new people I meet, someone there happens to know Atlas. Just simply look at his CS profile and you'll see all the good things people have to stay about him.
Atlas is definitely someone that, if given the chance, you must meet and set aside the time to get to know him, his views and values, and what his passions are. If you surf with us, he will definitely take care of you and make sure you get the most out of Boston and your surfing experience.

After throwing my luggage to his nice and cosy flat, he immediatly introduced me to his friends and roomates *SAloute Raoul!* and we hang out downtown. Mike is a Marvellous Guide! He knows the city like his pocket, he brought me to his favourite places and shops and we enjoyed the Skyline and sunset over Boston, from the top of a building!
Then we went to the Cambridge Street Party, with his friend Ned where we had a lot of fun trying to keep the pace of Music and Dance! And later in the night, he invited me to an other party where I what was a keg! :p All this in the same day! So can you Imagine all the things I've done during my stay!? :p This page's gonna be short to relate everything..
MidWest Concert, Chicha, Yiiikes, Cs Meeting on the Common, Crowded party on his flat with Western Indies Cocktails, Delicious Breakfast, Paper Party, ICA Museum, New York fu**ing city's Guy & damned girls! And so on... I can not tell how fun this experience was there... I hightly recomemded Mike as a host, it is an unforgetable experience, I was very lucky to find him as he did his best to make my trip perfect! Thanks again dude! You're Awesome! ;)

He's a good guy, fun to hang out with, and wicked smaht (that's Boston terminology for all you non-Bostonians). Highly recommended.

He introduced me to his friends at a party from the very first minutes we met! Mike has also been a fantastic guide, showing me around the city and advicing me the nicest spots to take some pictures! He's also been very trusty and patient, teaching me some new english words... now I know what "raccoon" and "wrestling" refer to! ;-)

brought me to his fave hangout - quality beer! nice cheap pizzas, and even a bike tour through major parts of boston.
you won't get such stuff if you enter as a tourist.
he's definitely a great person to enjoy chit chatting to him, and certainly one guy worth talking to about the world and the US. =) (no holds barred)
if you catch him in time, he'll even fetch you from the airport!
