Mike Atlas

 

Mike is a great guy! He is very supportive and knows Boston very very well! He and Marcie were able to Host me at last minute, even though they were not suppose too. Thank you for the couch, Mike ;)
We also went to a after-hours dance club, and in the next day to a house warming party where we met other CSers!
The thing is.... The more I meet Boston the more I want to go back... What a great town!! (Confusing, but great :D)

 

In my opinion Mike is a really smart guy that knows a lot about boston, it's history, all the important buildings and even good places to party ! I think he's the right person for being the cs ambassador !!!
I stayed in Boston with my Cousin so I never surfed his couch but he was a really great host. He carried me to some cs gatherings introduced myself to his friends and of course we had some great partys together. We had some really great conversations (just remembering when we met first for watching NBA playoffs and he explained law 401k to me) and it was always fun hanging aroung with him ! Hopefully we will meet again someday somewhere in Boston or Frankfurt or even somewhere else.

In my first few weeks at college, Mike welcomed me and offered advice for the naive freshman. He also introduced me to CS, and invited me to my first college party which ended up being a great time. I can't imagine that he wouldn't make anyone that meets him feel right at home and comfortable within minutes.

 

Even though we were actually his flatmate's couch-surfers, Mike spent a lot of time with me and my sister to show us Boston and the ultimately unofficial Harvard-tour :) all in all I liked spending time with him due to his warm and out-going personality.

 

Mike and I met and spoke at a couple of the Boston CS meetups. He had some awesome advice to give on Europe for my trip this summer. He's a super-chill guy who's fun and easy to talk to. Hope to be seeing more of ya soon mate!

While lounging around Boston, I lost my place to sleep on a Monday night at around 3:30 pm. Shortly after seeing my request for an emergency couch, Mike stepped up to the plate and offered to host me. Not only was he nice, but extremely knowledgeable about both CS and Boston, and a lot of fun too! Despite having work the next morning, he stayed up later than he probably should have and chatted with me about all sorts of random stuff. Great guy - I highly recommend him if you get the chance to meet him. Thanks again, see ya in a few weeks!

 

During my stay in Boston i surfed with Mike for a weekend. He really has the right CS spirit and is the right man for Bostons Cityambassador. I visited with him the local CS Meeting and also he was very helpfull wiht local tips to see Boston! He maked also your stay at his place very pleasent and comfortable. Mike is a great couch surfer, ready to share experiences and stories. He hosted me for a night and gave me a lot of advices. I wish I could stay more and share more with him but I defintely had the time to notice that is a real couch surfer, open to share and help ! Thanks to you and Matt for that night !

Mike was amazing to us... Last minute decision for us to stay with him... He was very flexible and cool... Also he has a sweeeet pad... Didn't have much time to hang but maybe someday I'll be back or u'll come to Northern Michigan....

Although we only met for several short hours and surfed only for one night, it was truly a pleasure meeting Mike. He's fast-spoken, technologically-versed, and very attentive to his guests. He gave me some points where to go film The Truth Is... project in Cambridge and Boston. Too bad we were limited by time to get to know Mike better, but there's always future ahead of us. Mike, if you ever in NYC and I am not away traveling my house is your house...

Mike is a fun guy! He loves to have a good time and is super dedicated and involved in the things that he enjoys.

 

Mike is an awesome person. Very friendly. Very positive very helpful. We never had much contact back in northeastern. We just relieved the other proctor. But it was cool. I wonder if he still has his bike which he parked on the glass wall. It did fit well with those Solaris machines. ha! He was a cool proctor!! haha! Humm.. He is also kinda my mentor at where we work. But yeah.. yep. definitely a great person to have as a friend..cheers mike!

 

When you first meet Mike, you think "Man, this guy must be totally dedicated and kickass, to play such a big part in an active, vibrant CS scene like Boston." Then you start to get to know him, and you still think that, but you also see that he is thoughtful, intelligent, and intensely interested in the world around him, with streaks of both silliness and dry, deadpan humor. A great conversationalist, excellent company, and getting way less credit than he deserves for his role in the Boston CS crew.

I was really self-conscious about my couch request. Cambridge is only an hour away and my trip was work related, not my usual travel scenario. But Mike was awesome, he helped me plan my routes, introduced me to great himalayan food and a sweet local bar all on his off nights. The kindness of strangers still amazes me; and his dedication and skill of bringing the cs community together is second to none :) heres some props!! I enjoyed hanging out and just relaxing and hope we can do it again soon.

I'm very happy to have surfed with Mike rather than going somewhere warm before I had surgery. He's a very nice, intelligent person, who loves CS, his cat, life, and beer. I hope we cross paths again soon --and I am sure we will once I am back in Boston.

Mike has got so many positive references here, but just to remove any possible doubt.. He's a great host, very friendly, and will fill you in on all those things you need to know about Boston.

First, i met Mike through the phone cause he helped me a lot to find my way in the city.
Then finally he gently hosted me last minute a couple of months later when i shortly came back to Boston. We share some talks mainly about US politics which was very instructive. Mike is a really smart, sweet and helpful guy.

Mike is great! Fun to hang out with and always a big help with any questions on the city. :)

If you like dancing you're gonna love Mike, if you don't like dancing.. well, you're gonna love him anyway. His knowledge about Boston seems endless and he's very well read and great at keeping a conversation going. I had a great time being hosted by Mike, big thanks!

mike was a great host, picked us up when we got lost and confused (often), offered us his couch and a little bit of conversation.

I have seen Mike host surfers and he has always taken extremely good care of them. He always has a positive attitude and goes far beyond what is asked of him. If you want to tour Boston I could not recommend anyone stronger. Be prepared for some very intellectual conversations as well!!

 

I spent 5 years attending Northeastern University with Mike, and over a year living with him starting in 2007. It's appropriate that Mike was the one to introduce me to couchsurfing, because he certainly exemplifies the "model citizen" in this community!

Mike is polite, clean, well-spoken, and friendly. When he hosted over 30 couchsurfers at our place last summer, he always had a guidebook on hand and often took our guests on personalized tours of Boston. He always is good for conversation, with a lot to say (and an open mind) about a range of topics from politics to favorite types of beer.

Mike is curious, intelligent, and respectful, and I'm sure he has a lot of traveling and hosting ahead of him. He was a great roommate and would be a wonderful guest as well.

 

Mike was a great host during my time in Boston; I'm glad that after several tries I finally ended up staying with him! Especially our X-Box night, followed by a CS meeting, was very nice! Mike is a very nice and openminded person, and knows a lot about many subjects. We had good conversations about politics, watching the speeches at the Democratic Convention. And every time I came to the house he said 'Welcome home'! All in all, I highly recommend him!

Ok, so I feel this reference for Mike is long overdue. If you're a CSer (or just passing through Boston) and you haven't met Mike, you are missing out on one of the coolest, most genuine guys in the city. Not only does he keep the weekly meetups going, but he's just an awesome person to hang out with in general - ESPECIALLY if you like politics! He's a great guy and if you stay with him, you're guaranteed a good time. Oh, and be sure to meet his adorable cat :)

Mike was a great host during our time in Boston! He took my friend and I on an incredible 7 hour walking tour around Boston (with many stops for food and drink), and it was great to get to know the city through his eyes. In addition to the great tour, he fixed us coffee, let us play with his adorable cat, and we enjoyed watching some Olympic games. Thanks Mike for all your hospitality and for making this trip so memorable!

 

Mike does well at maintaining a serious side and a lighthearted one too. He opened his home, shared his wonderful friends, and was my guide to extracting as much fun out of a trampoline as possible. I'm glad to have gotten to know him and am grateful for his and Matt's hospitality.

 

As my first CS experience, Mike has proven what I expected - that CS is a great network. He is a great host (I was very impressed by the neatness of his place!), always looking for the well-being of his guests; he even lent me his keys at one point! Thanks, Mike - and remember, I still owe you a dinner!

Mike, the man who wrestled an octopus, is a really funny easygoing guy. We met at the CS meeting in the CBC and in the Middlesex club. Organizing and going out is his passion, I guess.

I met Mike one night i Prague at the Crosstown club and then ran into him again at the palace in prague. He was a fun person to hang out wiht, has some great stories. Really Awesome Guy!

My sister and I surfed Mike's couch while traveling in the US and it was a great experience. He was a great and welcoming host, who showed us around Boston and Harvard and made us breakfast. We had dinner, drinks and nice conversations. While staying with him you can feel that he really loves hosting... Thanks for everything and hope to see you again :)

 

Mike is an awesome guy! He introduced us to Boston's nightlife, sharing with us his favorite bars and venues. He also explained us many of the local cultural specificities of Boston. We really enjoyed meeting him!

After surfing many couches while travelling in Europe, I decided to make a weekend trip to Boston and try surfing someone's couch here in the States. I couldn't have picked a better place for a first try! Mike's a great host in Boston: friendly, open, and helpful. Thanks for a great weekend and I enjoyed our conversations about music, etc. over a few beers..

 

Met Mike at a couchsurfing meet up- he's a great guy. Rather a charming, fun, Bostonite to hang out with. We had a great time listening to the POP's rehearsal concert, watching a rainstorm from one of the best secret spots in Boston, and making peace between the jocks and geeks at a fellow couchsurfers theme party.

I highly recommend meeting up with Mike when your in town- he's a great host, and quite the nice guy.

In just about 24 hours, Mike helped me out in so many ways. He accepted to host me for a night, invited me to a super cool CS meeting in Boston, gave me directions and instructions to get to where I needed to be from the airport along with some notes on places I may want to be, checked in with me to make sure I was alright, gave me a ride to his place, and let me stay on the comfy couch. Overall Mike really Welcomed me to Boston! He made my first surfing experience really amazing. Thanks Mike!

Mike showed me all over Boston, he's excited about the city and it shows. He and his roommates are all programmers and all interesting talking to. For good times and a Boston experience he's perfect to surf with.

so i met mike, and he forgot my name. he forgot where i was from and when i got to boston, and what i'm doing while i'm here. and yet he's just so fabulously likable that you'll find yourself reiterating everything, then leave thinking "man, what a nice guy!"

We stayed at Mikes apartment in Boston for three days. Mike and his roommate Matt are awesome. They took us on an all day tour of the city that was very informative. This was a great first couchsurfing experience!

I've fallen in love with Boston (so as my friend Jessy), and truly thanks to him and his friend Matt. Mike is an amazing person, full of energy and absolutely dedicated to couchsurfing ;) We had so much fun going to cool parties, hanging out in the freedom trial and going to restaurants. He really made the time to show us around and to introduce us to other people. Mike is one of those persons that make the couch surfing community so wonderful. Thanks again and say hello to Brie ;)

his own surfing board:) and we have a great time just
chilling out during the day and drinking during the
night(actually he saw the main square during the day
for the first time just the last day :) He made the
funniest picture ever in a club on Metelkova city
and we were the greatest Laško drinking team with
canoes on the Ljubljanica river ever! Hope your
European trip will finish well and maybe see you in
Boston sometime :)

 

Mike surfed our couch for few days. We couldn't hang out with him during daytime but we still had some nice talks and laughs at evenings. He's a great Boston ambassador and really nice person to know, with some interesting views on life and nice music taste indeed.

 

Meeting Mike in Statue Park in Budapest just proves how much smaller couchsurfing makes the world, when the only other person in the park with my friend Lani & I is also a CSer from the US! It was great fun sharing Mike's company the following day on our trip to Szentendre.(thanks for the sunscreen) Hope to see you again in either Florida or Boston!

 

It was great sharing traveling and couchsurfing experiences with Mike. We had a great time hanging out with him in Budapest and I hope he makes it to Florida or Hawai'i to surf my couch. I definitely plan on going to Boston.

Mike is a great guy. He has a lot to talk about, can translate a bit of Russian (and can of course read cyrillic), is quite trustworthy, and is always up for a good time.

If he's looking for a couch, I recommend hosting him -- he'll be up for going out, staying in, or whatever you want to do. If you're looking for a couch, let him know. He's got an awesome place in Boston (although he's not there right now) and will show you around. If you need someone to travel with, give him a shout. We had a great time in Budapest.

Saved Mike and his friend from starvation on a hot spring day in Budapest. Went for a meal and a very nice chat above it. Im sorry had no more time to show them around, but sometimes it's also good to pass time talking and discussing the words' matters around the table. It is just few hours that Mike left our appartment. We spent nice 4 days together. After a long time, we were able to host and Mike prooved us again, that CS is such a cool thing. I am very glad to know him and very happy to become part of his Eurotrip experience. He is absolutely great host! So...¨Mike, wishing you a lot of advanture, nice experiences and good people around! Went to a show in Paradiso with Mike, and had a really good time. He also told me about female urinals and world politics, i told him about voetschimmel ;). Interested and interesting guy!

Mike arrived in Europe and on my couch in the middle of a time when the life of Liz was more chaotic and hectic than usual ;) so unfortunately I only got to take him to my local pub and chat for a while on Monday. A real pity because all I can say is that he's lovely! Cleaned up my messy kitchen, was responsible and a really good bloke. I spent one afternoon with Mike in one of the most beautiful buildings of Brussels in front of splendid instruments. This meeting was completely unforeseen 1 hour before. Both Michels shared their opinions on the world intersected with musical extracts then around drink on the roof-terrace. CS it is magic but CSer are the magicians. Thank you Mike to have shared your time with me.

Update July 09:
Mike host me in Boston at his place and make for me a great schedule, CS meeting, CS dinner, bicycle tour in Harvard, Cambridge and around Boston. It was a great pleasure to meet him again and discover more his personality. I wish you to meet him. Thanks again my friend.

 

I came to Boston for a graduate school visit, and was worried I wouldn't get an accurate view of the city spending time in my hotel room. I'm so fortunate that Mike was able to give me a fantastic tour of the city, including a trip to a secret store, delicious sushi and a wonderful bird's eye view of the city. I had such a terrific experience and wonderful conversation. Thank you so much!

 

Atlas... Atlas... what can I say? I've know Atlas for at least four years now, and I cannot say anything but positive things about him. We both know each other from the Comp Sci program at NU, and our friendship started out at an academic level. Working together throughout the semesters I quickly saw that Mike is a very intelligent guy with a lot to offer to anyone he encounters. His vast knowledge of various subjects is astonishing and he is constantly sharing this information with me.

As time went on, our friendship evolved from the academic level, and Atlas is an amazing guy and absolutely fun to be around. He motivates me on a weekly basis to get off my lazy ass at times and go out with him to meet new people and try new things. (That is how I ended up a CSer myself now) Seemingly everywhere I go and the new people I meet, someone there happens to know Atlas. Just simply look at his CS profile and you'll see all the good things people have to stay about him.

Atlas is definitely someone that, if given the chance, you must meet and set aside the time to get to know him, his views and values, and what his passions are. If you surf with us, he will definitely take care of you and make sure you get the most out of Boston and your surfing experience.

Mike was my host in Boston and he is a great guy, who taught me a lot: slang words, that cambridge is not boston, weird sports, etc. Unfortunately I wasn't 100% because of a cold but I had such fun with him. Thank you for everything!

Mike is a friendly person and very easy to talk to. As I was surfing when i met him, he was also very welcoming.

Let me stay even when he was in class. I had a great time walking around the city and getting lost on Mission hill. The Red Devil T-shirt quilts were pretty funny.

Mike was my 1st experience with couch-surfing, and it was unforgettable in the best way. It felt absolutely effortless to get to know Mike, because he is unbelievably welcoming & easy-going. Not to mention that his sense of humor is top-notch and his knowledge of the city & the couch-surfing community is impressive. Within minutes of meeting, I felt as if I had known him for years. I highly recommend staying with or hosting Mike if you have the chance!!!

 

Mike is awesome! We have such a tough love kinda friendship that just always seems to sparkle! He's absolutely hilarious and one of the best dancers and always gives me the best muah's!

Mike! You incredibly AMAZING individual! I met Mike in NYC for New Years. We traveled together, partied together and had an amazing time. He's funny, friendly, and he even taught me wrestling moves. I can't wait to see him again! Eventually try and make it down to Virginia or I'll pull some levers and come to you!

It's been exactly six month since I met Mike in Boston! I still remember when he welcomed me with a huge smile at Logan Airport! After throwing my luggage to his nice and cosy flat, he immediatly introduced me to his friends and roomates *SAloute Raoul!* and we hang out downtown. Mike is a Marvellous Guide! He knows the city like his pocket, he brought me to his favourite places and shops and we enjoyed the Skyline and sunset over Boston, from the top of a building!

Then we went to the Cambridge Street Party, with his friend Ned where we had a lot of fun trying to keep the pace of Music and Dance! And later in the night, he invited me to an other party where I what was a keg! :p All this in the same day! So can you Imagine all the things I've done during my stay!? :p This page's gonna be short to relate everything..

MidWest Concert, Chicha, Yiiikes, Cs Meeting on the Common, Crowded party on his flat with Western Indies Cocktails, Delicious Breakfast, Paper Party, ICA Museum, New York fu**ing city's Guy & damned girls! And so on... I can not tell how fun this experience was there... I hightly recomemded Mike as a host, it is an unforgetable experience, I was very lucky to find him as he did his best to make my trip perfect! Thanks again dude! You're Awesome! ;)

Nesreen and I stayed at Mike's during our trip to Boston and let me say, he was such an amazing host and person. He has the cosiest little apartment, which is so tastefully decorated. He was extremely helpful and friendly and made us feel so much at home. He is so good with his cat, Brie, who is extremely friendly as well.

My first host with CS in Boston ! Very nice and smart person with who I enjoy to talk a lot ! A real 'Boston information machine' !! Ask a question, Mike will have the answer ! Great time with him on bike(him)and roller blade(me)in downtown Boston. His cat Brie is so adorable also !! Really comprehensive host (thanks a lot!) with my crazy schedule changing all the time !! I met Mike very last minute in Boston for some drinks. He is a cool guy, easy in conversation and pay attention to his mention of stereotypes, he means it ;). Mike is a good addition to Couch surfing, go check out his couch if you have the opportunity!

 

Mike was a great host and made his house feel like a home to me. I enjoyed staying with him and equally enjoyed our riveting conversations. I felt comfortable and happy staying at his pad and he had sound knowledge of the general area also, so I didn't really get lost. He made my first visit to Boston very welcomming. The couch was very comfortable and the apartment was very clean and tidy. I enjoyed hanging out with him and if he was in England he is the type of guy that you would want to hang out with too. Mike is a cool cat. He is always postitive to be around and a good conversationalist. Good man all around. And single ladies! grrr!

 

He has this huge energy, it always looks like he's tied down to earth by some invisible rope which keeps him from jumping up and down all around. He's cool

 

Mike opened his home completely to me and was quintessential in my enjoyment of Boston for the first time I was there.

He was fun to hang out with and he enjoys interesting stuff (He's an IPA buff for anyone looking to bring him a good present). I definitely recommend him for anyone trying to experience Boston.

You will like Mike.

Mike is a lot of fun! he likes a second helping of sushi (thankfully i wasnt the only one!) and is adorable in a lion costume. can't wait to hang out again!

Mike and I missed each other in Boston but got to make up for it at a few great New York Halloween parties. Hopefully we'll get to do more parties in the future :-)

Mike is a Boston beer expert. I had great fun exploring the different kinds of beer you can get in one particular Boston bar.

That is beside the normal touristic information he can provide about Boston and the neighboring cities.

 

Mike is an extremely friendly, easy going, open minded dude :) I genuinely enjoy his company and am always trying to talk to him whenever we're at a party together! He mistakenly tried to drink my beer once but was cool enough to take a substitute, I am really glad that we met and have become friends. I always look forward to hanging out w/ him. Also, from what I hear he's a gracious host.

Atlas has been an awesome host. Not just accommodating and hospitable, but great to hang out with and talk to as well. He's been showing me around the city, which is pretty valuable.

He was an incredible host. He helped me so much while moving in to Boston. It was wonderful to have a friend in a whole new city, where you don't know anyone. Hope to keep that friendship while I live here and after I leave from here. Thanks for everything Mike.

 

Mike is a very intelligent, friendly and open-minded guy and a wonderful host! He wrote me first while I was not far from Boston (Cape Cod) and asked me to join him at the Cultural Aspects of Business class devoted to the CouchSurfing project. Mike is a great guy. I do not think he needs another wonderful reference because his page is pretty full but, I know that if you had the chance to surf his couch you would be one of the lucky ones. Boston is a fun city to visit and Mike knows his city well. When Mike makes it to Europe, offer him your couch because you know he will do the same. Come to Beantown!

 

Mike is awesome, fun and very caring. I hosted me and my friend for a night and we had so much fun. He showed us the town, went out for drinks with us and made sure we would have the best time possible. I regret that I couldn't stay longer, I had such a good time with him and his lovely roommates! and I promise I will upload all the pictures once I don't have to sneak at the work computer anymore to access the internet... :-)

Mike is one helluva guy and completely into the couchsurfing concept. He's very helpful with things to do, and how to get around and even gave me a map and guide book to use while I stayed with him. He's also given me a few secret tips that aren't in the guides ;)

I hope he gets to do his travelling soon, and if he's ever somewhere in my city, he can surf my couch any time.

Mike is a part of my successful CS trip in Boston. He hosted me for three days even if he had a **** computer projet to finish. I really wish I could have helped him but he is so good in what he is doing. Mike, his roommates and his cat took care of me and I had a great time there. His couch is confortable! You definitely need to meet him if you go to awesome Boston.

Mike was the first person I surfed with and he did extremely well. He did make sure that my friend Jacki and me saw as much of Boston as we could possibly see in 1 and a half day. We went out together with him and his roommates and had great fun. He has such a nice and intelligent person.

Wow...I had an amazing time in Boston with Mike and the lovely people that surround him! I have nothing but high praise; Mike is one fantastic excuse for a human being.

Mike was very helpful and enthusiastic when organizing the invasion to Boston, and generously offered his couch though he was taken by work.

 

Mike is a great host, and very kind. He leant me a very useful tour guide for Boston, and is very informative about the area and his home in Mission Hill. I stayed one night with Mike, and he has a very comfortable couch to crash on, and very warm and accepting house mates.

Mike hosted me while I was backpacking through New England. We didn't hang out much during the day as we both were busy but he was a great host anyway. His roommates are funny too, and the couch is very comfortable!

Mike Atlas is a genuine guy. He has his feet firmly planted on the ground. I really like how enthusiastic he is about the Couchsurfing Project. I know I'll be seeing him more often around boston. Definitely worth getting to know him!

Mike possesses a wealth of the two characteristics that make great friends:

First, he has a strong character. This means that he possesses strong ethics, has feelings and convictions about the state of the world, and is considerate to friends and strangers alike, not because he's preoccuped with the repercussions of not doing so, but because of his deeply-ingrained beliefs about how people deserve to be treated.

Second, he's interesting and fun to be around. He's a man with a powerful intellect, which complements his ability to engage others in meaningful and stimulating discourse. You can talk to him about philosophy, science, or any fun sort of nonsense. He's very keen on pursuing new experiences and expanding his horizons, and will encourage those around him to do the same.

If you get the chance to meet him, you will have no choice but to like him.

Mike is a great host and an even better city guide! He let my roomie, Rachel, and me crash on his couch for a Red Sox/Royals game - and even walked us to the stadium!

He had a ton of suggestions for fun happenings in the Boston area and knew quite a bit about the city. I wish we had come on a less busy time for Mike and his roommates as they would have been a lot of fun to hang out with.

I would host Mike and/or surf there again, any time.

I stayed with Mike during my visit to Boston. He is a friendly person who is interested in what you have to say. We had interesting conversations from which I learned about the culture in Boston. He cares about his society, and by talking to him, one can see why Boston is really Boston!

He took me to some local places - special to Boston - and even provided me with his own version of Boston tour guide. He is also a Beer connoisseur I should say!

I've known Mike since freshman year of college. We've taken numerous classes together, studied together, but also kick back and just chill together. He's a good guy, fun to hang out with, and wicked smaht (that's Boston terminology for all you non-Bostonians). Highly recommended.

 

Mike and his flatmates have been wonderful hosts for the three days I was welcomed in their appartment! He introduced me to his friends at a party from the very first minutes we met! Mike has also been a fantastic guide, showing me around the city and advicing me the nicest spots to take some pictures! He's also been very trusty and patient, teaching me some new english words... now I know what "raccoon" and "wrestling" refer to! ;-)
