Ulf Kleinings

 

Ulf introduced me to sauna culture witch was really interesting... i was kind of irritated when he asked me, but finally i felt completely reborn and i need to thank him for this! danke ulf ;) !!

We met on the HC Beach Camp 2006 in Berlin, had a lot of fun and nice chats! Hope to see you soon (Cologne Carnival?), Ulf!

Ulf's a really cool guys, really generous, always ready to help and always seems to be on the run lol. We really appreciate our time in Köln and we look forward to meet him again! :D Maybe in Paris?

Ulf is the Couchsurfing Master :)) he hosted not only the two of us but also 2 more surfers (after a few turkish guys didn't come) altough we came just for one night it is one of our great memories from the trip! come visit in Israel!

 

Ulf, a man I didn't have to get used to but many of you will. That out of the way, he's awesome. Assuming you have the right sense of humor you can always count on a laugh with this guy.

Ulf is a very active memeber of the CS-community and it's fun to hang out with him. I met him several times at different occasions, also some of which were organised by him as well.

Ulf is a really cool host! He loves the sauna, and there is where we met him, the XXL Sauna night in Cologne! Which was so great:) We'll probably see each other again at Karneval 2010!!

 

Traveled with Ulf couple of times on CS events. In short all that was already said on previous references is 100 percent correct and true :-)

A very very intense experience. Highly recommended.

Ulf was kind enough to host me for 1 1/2 days although my profile looks pretty... "spartan" as he described it and cs people sometimes are afraid of that, which I totally understand. This was my very first couchsurfing experience.

He will not say no to you for a Kolsch beer, he will give you some good advice about Cologne and what you can see and do there. And if he has time (since he is very busy with his work), he would love to walk you around Cologne.

You might think that he has a strange sense of humor at first sight but once you get used to that, everything is fine!

And anyway...Humor is the spice of life! :-)

 

Even if you didn't talk too much, I really enjoy Ulf's company. He's a very charming person, very easy going and with a lot of energy.

heard a couple of funny and positive stories about Ulf before meeting him, and they were all true. :)

even though he has never heard about Usain Bolt (when you think about it, its not that usefull piece of information, except in one particular game), he is probably on of the most intelligent people I've met, and besides that, he's extremly funny :D

enjoyed being around him when we were hosted by Rolf, loved his story about his testicles, listening him explaining things about CS and life in general was a unique experience, and would do it again and again!

hehe.. this guy makes me laugh. I just love his openness about anything and everything, but especially the controversial! I found it very refreshing to be able to jump straight into interesting and lively discussion, without all the usual small talk first. I also thought his talk about CS safety was excellent and I agreed with almost everything he said. (gasp!) Hope to meet you again, Ulf!

Imagine, you're at a party, it's early in the morning and you need your coffee kick - who stands up? Ulf! He took me and my travel body Áine (aka The Ducklings) undre his wings and made us coffee. And that was not gonna be the first or the last time - he took good care of his ducklings during Berlin Beach Camp, Mont Royal Summer Camp, Vienna Calling, Utrecht Midsummernight, etc. Any problems, any tears, any need, he is always there to make you smile and bring you the life giving liquid: coffee :)
He is a very interesting person with good arguments for his many opinions, great humour, big heart and a warmth that only a mother can show. Mamma Duck, we love you

I hosted Ulf at the Big Franconian meeting and had a good time with him. He is a funny, direct guy and open-minded to everyone (including those who watch RTL:)). He is very comitted to couchsurfing!

This guy should be a stand-up comedian. No kidding. The whole ride from Gentbrugge (in Belgium) to Paris he fired clever, nasty, absurd and plain hilarious jokes at gatling gun tempo. By the time we arrived in Paris, we hadn't even found the time to notice that we were packed like sardins in his briefcase-sized car. We didn't even need to ask to ride along to the Paris CS Meeting, by the way. He offered it himself! Extremely friendly, intelligent, funny and unique guy. Just don't leave your sense of humor at home, because he really makes jokes at the expense of EVERYTHING.

 

Outgoing and crazy, good sense of humour. It was fun having discussions about precarious topics, and listening to funny CS-posts in their local group. Gotta meet him again, wanna know if I´m open- minded!

The rumors are true! Wow, Ulf is a very seasoned and knowledgeable CSer. Lot's of energy, doesn't hold back. I met up with them when he hosted 2 Aussies here in Cologne, we went to the Stadtgarten, to a brewry, sat on the rhine for a while and just chatted. But be aware, he enjoys 'Anus Liquor' and saunas! (ask him about the anus liquor).

 

I met Ulf at one of the many picnics in Paris. He was super eager in sharing his triple size twister matt and his sample of french boulangerie food. That instantly won my heart over! ;)

i went with ulf to the paris rendevous and just the way to paris with 5 people in a daihatsu coure was it worth to go. ulf is a very funny person and as ironic as i am. but we also had some serious conversations what was very nice. ulf is really "open-minded" ;-) and always up for some fun

Ulf is a very nice and incredibly funny guy. He gave us a ride to Paris, and during the few hours we got very close. Literally, because we were with five in a not too big car, but it was the funniest car ride ever. Hope to see you again soon, we'll try to make it to Cologne any weekend...

 

Ulf is super great! He has a very big heart and is very funny and intelligent. Thanks to Ulf, my friend Aaron and I had our first sauna experience, way super cool. I highly recommend meeting, hosting or surfing with Ulf! We love you, man!

 

Thx for the last-minute hosting, and for a deeper view behind the cs community ... it was a long and interesting night.

 

Ulf is one of those guys that really enjoys provoking other people. There are a LOT of issues where we have completely different opinions and views. Luckily the guy himself is a really nice dude though. If you are open to listening to people without judging them Ulf is a great guy to meet, he is warm and caring, very active, takes initiatives and enjoys pulling a prank or two. Please be aware that he has a very direct communication style though and listen to the message rather than the delivery :-) I very much enjoyed staying with Ulf and would definitely like to spend more time with him in the future... but he does require a quite open mind at times.

 

Expecting a big, tall guy I was surprised seeing this nice young lad ;-)
And if you play watergames with our children on a rainy day, 10 minutes before we are leaving for a swim... they'll love you! And so they do, already asking when Ulf will surf their couch. See yah!

 

I cannot say I know Ulf enough to write a "proper" reference, too complex and interesting to know him that much, but then again how many of those who left him a reference know him "that much"?
One of the very few German people I find worth knowing, doesn't suffer the "keyboard syndrome", he is a pain in the ass both from behind the monitor and in real life, meaning he's very straightforward and lacks of hypocrisy. Amazingly ironic and sarcastic,serious when it's necessary and funny all around.No I wouldn't become Gay for him or marry him but definitely do suggest to anybody to meet him!
My greatest regret...not have tasted his Tiramisu yet.
Please Ulf NO REFERENCE AT ALL is much better than "I will write a ref as soon as time allows" lasting 2 years! ;-)

I still think Ulf's endless posts are annoying, but I found out that in person he's actually a really nice guy :) And I did get already from the annoying posts that he does mean very well!
Oh, and his accent is funny, it was responsible for some nice misunderstandings in the Ambassadors meeting in Vienna :)

I'm sure I cant expand to much on what has already been said but I might aswell put my two cents in. Ulf is a totally sound dude with a good sense of irreverence (although sadly I dont think I was around long enough to experienced the full force of it!). He went out of his way to help me on my ragtag way to Berlin by not only picking me up in the middle of the night, risking being forever lost at the hands of his female friends driving, but even rustling up a ride from Cologne to Berlin for me that night...thanks again!

There are so many comments about Ulf already, which describes him quite good. To make a long story short: He's fun, intelligent and a great CS member. You have the chance to visit him? DO IT!

Hey, we had great time in Köln at Karneval, ant this is, I´d say, 75% thanks to this great person, who organized everything amazingly well. You don´t have to be a guru to find out that he is very organized, funny and surely has a great heart. This event he organized (karneval) is something i won´t forget, so I thing this is enough. Absolut positive experience.

Ulf is a great dude, a really good surfer and a wonderfull what I would almost call a co-host for me in germany. Meeting him was one of the high lights of my trip

 

Met Ulf at the Berlin Beach Camps 2007, 2208 and 2009. That is not good to just meet him at camps. So I must make an effort to go to Cologne and get hosted by him. He likes my cooking and so that a sure host. hahahaaha!. Cheers.

Pooositively crazy, big heart, lots of energy! :) Not everyone's cup of tea, but if you're not too delicate a flower very funny and hospitable. The world can use more guys like him... (psssh: not TOO many though, or we might explode in a swirl of laughter, rude jokes and funny costumes.) Hehehe!

 

Ulf has never ceased to amaze me and after 3 years of an 'on line' friendship we have finally met in person. He was so kind to wait at the airport for me with his ride into Munich. I can say for sure that this funny, intelligent, interesting, AND charming individual with the amazing gift for gab is a person you DO NOT want to miss meeting. Ulf is in one more word Splendid!

Ulf is a every seasoned host. We rushed to the top the platform of Cathedral and he gave me an efficient (German style :P) description of Koeln. Even though he apologized for not doing too many things related to Koeln at that night, I enjoyed the "Asian food" they(he and his friends) prepared and all the conversations we had a lot.

Ulf is a couch surfer like few, since he likes and excels in organizing events and moreover, he has the rare ability to motivate people.

I have been to a couple of Cologne events, that although were not originally his idea, they probably wouldn't have turned out that well without his involvement.

If you meet him, be prepared for very frank and direct conversations, since he is the type who simply says what he really thinks.

 

As long as you give him a small space to sleep, power for the laptops and wifi he is a happy camper.

Ulf is not only able to make things happen, he just does it in 24h. One day he'll maybe organize the big major event...

I am afraid I cannot say much more about him, (because always when we happen to meet he disappears in the sauna - his favourite biotope:-)

Ulf is a active and very help full friend he managed to find a couch for my daughter in Dusseldorf where she got stuck with missing here flight do to snow conditions! That what Cs is all about great guy!

I first met him at a Passover dinner he hosted for a couple of Jewish friends, then he hosted me at the Archies where he organised the meetings when I missed my bus.

I also met him the next day at another CS meeting. I generally enjoyed his company.

I met Ulf in Dublin, where we had a great time together. Ulf is a good guy, with the heart at the right place. Thank you for our good conversations and the time together! See you soon!

Ulf Ulf Ulf Ulf... I have to refer to his name manytimes when Im in conversation with CS. Not only about his very well organised-skills, his leadership, his carefullness but also his homour senses. His number is in my Favourit list, cuz he will be my saver when i get lost, or need advices on parties. All in ALL, he is a great guy and if you got a chance to go to Koeln, meet him!

It was good enough, but It could be better. Maybe next time, with more spare time for both.

5 days werent enough to understand how a person can be such a great host. its not hard to be a good host when you have 1 or 2 guests, but there is no way to beat Ulf when hosting 30 people at the same time! and if you add to this that its during Kölner Karneval... incomprehensible. please, this guy is really worth knowing. you will be amazed!

There's no time for bullshit with him and I love that!
It took a while before I finally went to Cologne where I saw a bit more of what it's like to be with the Kölle at Karneval in the (his) Arche. brilliant!

 

Finally have a chance to meet this controversial person. In actual fact, he is not the least controversial. Just too honest and frank I guess. Enjoyed the conversation that we had. Love his relax and laid back attitude towards things and life. Definitely an asset to CS community! Hang on there.. =)

Ulf has definite character! He likes to put his name tags in strategic places, write detailed information about himself on them, and stick out his tongue often. But no, I am not a drunk, but yes the many pints of Guinness in Dublin were fun to share with him. See you in Germany soon!

It was very gracious of ulf to host my friend and myself at the arche for the carnival. ulf was very hospitable and well prepared for the event. he led us thru the city to all exciting experiences and made sure everyone had a good time.

Ulf has a great sense of humor. He had me laughing every few minutes.

Ulf is an amazing guy, I have no idea how he managed to organise everything for Cologne Carnival, but he did a great job! And he also hosted me the first night I was in Germany, at short notice! Thanks so much! He's a very funny guy, and great to party with :) Thanks for everything!

He is the best host ever! Has everything pretty well organized, invites beers for carnival, think about people pokets, teaches what to do before drinking, suggest where to go, etc. He is such a funny guy with an advanced sense of humor, just crazy! You have to come to Chile and drink Piscola! I invite this time!

Not only is Ulf an organizing super-talent, but also a great entertainer and awesome host with a special sense of humor. Without him Carnival would have been pretty boring and without the Arche experience it wouldn't have been such great fun, together with all the cool and crazy people from all over the world surfing the Arche with us. Ulf is a total Carnival geek, so not only he had tons of different costumes for every day, but he was also always equipped with some spirits for everyone! Although that week was kinda exhausting (party all the time!), it went by so fast I barely noticed that I spent a whole week in Cologne.
After Carnival was over I had the opportunity to stay another night at Ulf's place along with two other CSers which was also great fun. If you're into all kinds of home electronics and computers, I'm pretty sure you'll like his setup :-) I'm glad that I met a cool person like Ulf - thanks for everything and hope to see you again (be it in Cologne or in Berlin).

Ulf is an organization talent!It was my first couchsurfing experience and it was my first carneval in cologne and hopefully not the last one!It was just phenomenal!He´s a very nice guy and I'm glad that I made this wonderful experience!

Ulf organised an awesome Karneval experience for us in 2009. The amount of time and effort that must have gone into the planning and execution must have been phenomenal.

Whats more the event was fantastic, Ulf did his best to make sure everybody was comfortable and had a great time, which we did!

Ulf was officially a star and worked his ass off to make Carnival a blast for the group of CSers.. it was the most fun I have had in long time so a big thank you! From the schnapps holster, to the wigs on loan, Ulf thought of everything.. clearly a strong character and lots of interesting opinions - a pleasure to meet him.

Ulf was a fantastic host in Cologne! he single handedly organised for a compund of us couchsurfers to stay in carnaval and kept us safe, happy and plied with alcohol :) thanks so much for a fabulous time ulf!

One thing I can say about Ulf is that he runs the most dependable barbecue in all Christendom. A man you can truly rely on. I would entrust my own shanks to him.

There's a lot of good things that I would say about Ulf (i.e. that he is intelligent, helpful, has a great but sharped sense of humor...) but he knows all these things because he knows himself pretty well and that is something really good not only for him but for everyone. In the other hand I don't wanna contribute to make his inner ego climb up to the sky. The only negative point was not stay more time and enjoy of his company. By the way... if you have a problem with your so called morality, decency or whatever (i.e. making a drama if he show his pennis without apparent reason) I definetly wouldn't recommend you to meet him. You're always welcome to my place man. But that's something that you already know.

Ulf and I met only for a few minutes on a birthday party in London, we then had the time to know each other better in Cologne during the Carnival! Ulf is a great person with his own way of facing life, very honest and direct, no bullshit allowed!

 

After reading his profile and all the discussions and controversy on the open CS web pages I finally met Ulf in person. He is certainly a celebrity at CS with all the controversy he causes. Hope that he can be a force for positive change.

 

You can always trust ulf. He will help you everytime and is the best host I know.

Ulf is quite a character and a great host! There is never a dull moment with him, and I really learned a lot about his city. He is passionate and a great entertainer.

Ulf is Cologne! I don't think I have to add more to his enormous collection of references. Also don't I know him well enough to really write something here, all I know is rumors and legends.
Maybe one day there will be reason to update this, but for now I can only say, that I need to spend more time with him, in order to form my own opinion.

 

He may stir up a bit of trouble once in a while, but Ulf is a great guy. He's entertaining and fun, and he's the glue that keeps the CS community in Cologne together. I've avoided it so far, but there's a good chance if you come to Cologne you'll see him naked. I hear it's very breath-taking (the sauna... not Ulf's dangly parts.) One thing's for certain, it's never dull around Ulf, and we all love him for that!

 

Ulf is always mood for partying. It´s characteristic for cologne. But we don´t enought time for talk more about your person and some things CS. But the next meeting is coming...

 

Well, I can say that Ulf is everything he says in his profile and a lot more. I you happen to find yourself hanging out with him, don't panic, he's great company. You might also end up with some interesting discussions. Besides CS sauna is the thing that seems to keep him ticking.

Ulf is a character to say the very least. A lot of people don't get his sense of hunour, but I think he is absolutely hilarious. He is also incredibly helpful and really made my travels easier. I also had the pleasure of seeing him naked, although I think I'm joining the ranks of a few hundred people

Ulf is one of the most special person i met haha...He suprised me every minute of this trip, after passing a week with him there is no way you can be shy or that you will not change a bit. And of course theres no way you wont see his balls and hes REALLY proud of them.
Its been a really fun time with him and Í hope i will get the chance to visit him in colone.

Well, Mister Ulf :-) is truly one-of-a-kind!!! Not everyone might like his ways, but everyone has to agree that without him, CS meetings would not be the same ;-) - he'll "keep the vibe alive" by constantly talking and/or doing crazy stuff right off his hat :-D !!
I really liked his will to share on any possible topic and his enthusiasm in doing things right; however, his very straightforward character and his "way" of doing things might get on the nerves of some people... I don't feel about him this way at all!
He's generally a very generous and helpful person, which kept amazing me during the time we spent in CS meetings in Finland and Switzerland
All in all, a great individual, may I say "bigger than life" - definitely worth meeting!!!

ulf surfed my couch, literally, with two of his friends and i do have to admit that i enjoy his company. ulf is opinionated and have plenty of stories to tell, especially those below the waist ones, spiced up with ulf's humour. it is guaranteed that you won't have a dull moment with him! oh, and i promise to practise my table soccer skills!

Ulf is a person that i have met now many times online and offline and this always has been a great Experience in the Netherlands at some meetings, in Cologne, Bonn, Berlin and the Paella where we later shared the same nighttrain home.

We had already met in some euromeetings, but still I have to find better words to describe him!

First of all I have to say that CS is not a dating site and Ulf doesn't look like German, second this reference is not for him but for you guys for other members :) and I'd like to tell you that to do not meet Ulf, if you have a chance, is something like to go to Paris and skip Eiffel Tower, his sence of humour is from time to time kind of dangerous but I really like his straight and promt way how he is joking. He was the first global ambassador who I met (in addition with super c... how he introduces himself) and I'm glad for a fun he brought to our great meeting in Finland.

 

If you want to find someone who know to make good parties, just ask to Ulf, he will for sure suggest you many things to success it. He's very fun and talkativ, a bit direct but he is not a liar so. I have met him during several meetings in Bonn, Rotterdam or Bratislava and then we travelled together in Finland. I hosted him in Päaskynniemi for the meeting I organised. He is very helpful, especially for the hardest smelliest tasks ! Ulf, if you come to Lille, a couch is already available for you !

 

It's very likely you'll hear something about Ulf before you'll meet him, that's what happened (also) in my case. I wouldn't actually have recognised him by the description so I just forgot what other people said. :D Here's what I say: Wonderfully (or overly) caretaking, with sometimes dangerous (!) sense of humour (which I enjoy enormously!), impatient, restless at times, straightforward, honest, tactless, very funny, clever and whatever. And now you can just forget this list, go and meet him and make your own opinion. You can rest assured that Ulf will have opinions and he'll make them plain and open though with lengthy explanations! If you are in hurry, don't ask him anything, he's totally unable to answer a question shortly, he'll talk for around half an hour and in the end print you some additional information! And triple-check if you actually understood everything he said. Oh, and if you spend more time with him than, say, 3 days and tell it to someone, they'll think you're crazy

I met MrUlf by city walking trip with Markku in Tampere. It was very interesting to see German speaking in Finland and walking above 15 km. through city squares, parks, bridges, mountains and likes. We had a nice visit of the famous 100-years old sauna.

 

Ulf is definitely one of the most enterprising guys I met during my EuroTrip. He had meticulously planned the X-mas markt crawl at Koln which I joined in the evening which became my inaugural CS experience and boy! was it great! After what was an eventful and tiring day, we ended up pumping an air-bed(which he pulled out of his magic box) for nearly an hour which wud become my bed for the night. Thanks mate for all the advice and help in planning my trip. cheers!

I met Ulf at the CS meeting in Helsinki and I won't forget his magic performance bringing out wrustels from who-knows-where.
He also tried to turn me into a finnish TV star but I humbly refused.

this man not only has a comfortable mattress, but also knows more about american politics than most all americans. he showed us around, brought us to a barbecue in bonn, and showed us kolsch drinking etiquette. good time!

Cs should be very proud to have such members in it, in the BBC 2008, I saw that Ulf really cares for every detail of the camp and cares for every one, he is really responsible and helps you as much as he could,I am also happy that I met him and happy having such friends.

Well, Ulf is a very outgoing and open-minded person which i enjoyed a lot talking to and laughing with! Yes, he's sometimes a little bit offensive but never means it and don't take him too seriously...hope to meet again soon!

We met first at the Berlin Beach Camp 2008. Ulf is great, but the question remains - your Sauna there or my Sauna here? :) (And we met again at the bookfair meeting in Frankfurt. But Ulf's profile speaks for himself as you can see!)

He organised a Couchsurfing Sauna night, and we stayed with a cool international CS group about 24 hours in a spa. what a great time! I never went to the sauna to excessively.
The second night he hosted us at some community house, where he had a cozy night after enjoying Kölsch in a local brewery.
It was a great weekend in Köln. It is great to have so much fun visiting a city, you already know quite well =)

Ulf is a great organisor, and a CS-personality in Cologne, where his roots are as well. I would especially like to mention the days and evenings he organises in the Arche, a perfect location to let CS-people meet eachother, to talk or play some games, and for hosting. The Arche is especially a great input to CS in my view. So far the most open CS-man in Cologne!!! Cheers! Stayed in The Arche Carnaval 2008, somewhere in Spring 2008 and stayed at his place in August 2008, as an emergency couch!!

Ulf is a great organiser and really knows how to welcome a new person in the group!

I had heard a lot about Ulf from Anick and Caspar and I had really high expectations for how awesome he would be. He definitely was just as I thought he would be and he is a real cool guy. He is extremely into couchsurfing and has a great attitude about it. He seems like a total free spirit and I really admire that. I even forgive him for telling me I look like a guy! See you at the Paella!

 

Ulf, already overbooked for spaces in his tents for the BBC2008 - gave me a place to sleep at night. Of course it wasn't just ANY place, but the COOLEST place at the BBC! Ulf even ordered flags from the places where each "tent surfer" was from to hang above the tents. We didn't hang out too much, but from what I saw Ulf is a great member of the Couch Surfing community and definitely brought great energy to the camp. Thanks again Ulf!

 

It was really great hosting Ulf and being filmed for a German television. We had very nice talks about CS experiences and lots of fun. Update: Although he has done it many times, he is a great Koeln guide, never tired to walk up the dom!

I got to meet Ulf at Las Fallas in Valencia, Spain. Great guy to pass time with. He loves snacks as much as I do.

My best friend Zubin and I were lucky enough to get in touch with Ulf and stay for a couple of nights with him at extremely short notice. He really came through for us when we needed him. And he is a fantastic host. He is incredibly hospitable, and you couldn't find someone who knew their city better. If you are willing to climb the one million stairs to the top of the cathedral in Cologne with him, he can tell you about every building you see. I hope to stay with him again some day.

 

My time in Cologne was greatly enhanced thanks to Ulf, who I saw 3 days out of 3, as I enjoyed his biting humour, witticisms, great knowledge of Cologne and buffee resteraunts. He took time to show me and some other CSs around the cathedral, organised a fantastic brunch and met up with me on my last night to take a whole group of us to a bar. conversing with Ulf was both enlightning and entertaining, and I hope at some point we will run into each other again.

 

Ulf was an AWESOME host on my recent visit to Bonn & Cologne. While I didn't surf at his place, he was a great host in that he always led us to GREAT places to drink, GREAT places to eat, and just great places to hang out & enjoy really good conversations. He also throws in really cool "tour guide" stuff about his town as well. He did a lot to make contact & to keep in touch throughout our visit, so we'd always know what's on. If you're in Bonn and/or Cologne, and if he's there too, you'd be amiss to miss a beer with him.

Ulf is a great Guy. He just thought about everything.

He let more than 40 people stayed in Archer. And It was the best first experience that I could have with couchsurfing.

I admire Ulf's energy! He's got this positive curiosity and interest to everything. It can be a workshop with children, the werbs for scratching in different languages... just anything! You can always count on him to make conversation. And if you ever participate in a competition (like CS Olympics), make sure Ulf is in your team! :)

Kind guy!! He organized the fantastic CS Meeting in Cologne to visit the Carnival Parade.

This guy is a savior. We were somewhat stranded in Cologne and he took us in to this Perish where he was hosting a ton of other people. He puts a lot of effort into this event and he is one of the most generous people I have ever met.

 

I was shocked at the things Ulf did and the time he put in to the CS meet at the Arche during Karneval (organizing and emailing detailed maps, contact numbers of other surfers, taking us to parties, buying beds, towels for saunas, umbrellas etc...etc...). He really cares about CSers and will go out of his way to help people even if he doesn't know them very well. Ulf, I had a great time at Karneval and I hope to come back sometime in the future. Hopefully our paths will cross again. Proste!

 

Cannot even begin to describe how amazing a person Ulf is. He put together an incredible gathering for Carnival where he hosted dozens of us and scheduled a list of activities that would make a wedding planner blush.

Ulf stayed at my home with 4 friends for the Sinterklaas meeting. He introduced me to the beer from Köln. Highly recommended (Ulf too).

Ulf can send out monologues amazingly long on the couchsurfing forum (thats how usually you start hearing from him), can he is an excellent friend that i happened to see at every single event abroad that i usually visit as well, good man that fights for its ideas and have a weird sense of humour for the common people !!
I think over the years since now its been two years we ve met, i got a pretty good sense of what ulf can be... he is someone considerate, willing to connect.. i mean i certainly saw you more than my neighbours ! i have a huge respect and total trust especially when it comes to have this camera moment ... absolutely fun ! cant wait to see you !

I only knew Ulf from his longer than usual posts in different groups. They were (and are) well-structured and always thoughtful. So I was really glad to have the opportunity to meet him in person at the CSC Europe in Eisenstadt. He's not only a thinker but you can also have lots of fun with him. After meeting him again in London, he joined the CouchSurfing Paella 2007 and once again he surprised me with his sausage :-)
Update we met several other times all over Europe and I also hosted him again at NYE 07/08 and the CouchSurfing Paella 08. May our pathes cross lots of other times because that guy's hilarious and helpful!

 

What an interesting and fun-loving guy! My time in Cologne would not have been the same without him. We climbed over 500 steps to overlook all of the city and he was a great tour guide! We drank beers, had a ton of laughs, and experienced Nirvana in a sauna. An experience I will never forget. Thanks bud!

 

Ulf is a wonderful person; very helpful I will never forget him at the Arche filling up the air bag with this mouth at 3 AM which eventually made for a nice and cozy bed for me at night. His commitment to CS goes beyond any mention here. The Koln Christmas market walk, the tables at Fruh’s and the night at Arche; hats off to you and for the wonderful time you gave us all. We did get a small chance to talk about your professions and work and how he has become established in CS (Computer Service), his sleeping naked legend.

 

One cannot be an active CSer on the Rhine without meeting Ulf once in a while! We've met in Cologne/D, Düsseldorf/D, Frankfurt/D, Gossau/CH, Rotterdam/NL, Oss/NL. I met Ulf at the Sinterklaas meeting in Rotterdam and we had a few talks. The guy is extremely grateful and friendly. We met again a week later for the Cologne X-mas market stroll which was another blast event. Ulf organised this event and turned out to be a wonderful organizer.

 

I met Ulf in Eisenstadt at the CS collective where we worked together. If you saw the collective video blog, you already know he's a terrible singer :) But that's his only flaw I'm aware of. For the rest, this guy is very nice and friendly, fun and put a lot of energy and motivation in the collective. And he's a lot of great ideas and knows how to talk about it, with lots of details :)

 

Ulf is one of a kind. Had such a good time with him as he has the best stories and not to mention tips on how to stay awake ~ ask him;) Met at the Sinterklaas Party and he organised a GREAT X-mas weekend in Cologne I attended in the Arche. I helped him out as a b-actor in the CS report for German TV. I am sure we'll meet again.

We met at the Cologne's Xmas-Market Crawl 2007 and he explained me a lot about couchsurfing and about his experiences in this project.

before we met at the euro-csc i only knew ulf from his well... gonna call them very extensive posts in various groups (i think you know what i mean) which i honestly never read till the end :) so for me it took the collective to find out what really clever and reasond ideas he has for this great project (i started reading all his posts in the meantime by the way). apart from being one of the most dedicated csers i've met so far he is a passionate singer, excellent party companion and he was our chief waterpipe lighter :) plus he has extensive knowledge on berlin's gay saunas - so if you should ever need assistance with that, he is your man!

*update* so we met again in london, switzerland and rotterdam and it it was great fun as usual! i now know some things about his anatomy that i never wanted to find out but that was definitely worth it ;o) looking forward to teaching you how to ski properly soon :o)

Time to comment on Ulf. we met now several times and finally travelled and surfed together. He is an enthusiastic traveller and host, absolutely reliable and always best informed. Even if I do not share them, I love his strong opinions; and his realistic view of things might not suit everybody but is definitly entertaining and spices up the group;) This mind -though male-is definitly multitasking!

 

We had some nice discussions, some good beers and a lot of fun... Although we'll probably never agree on which beer is the best, Belgian or German (we all know it's Belgian ;)). Looking forward to our next encounter.

Ulf is the nicest, crazy upbeat, helpful person i've met through this project. Without him my friends and I may have slept under a bridge (like we did the evening before we met).

He organized the meeting in Koln, during the carnival.He was great, providing raw sausages and mustard for all the members of the group, he carried a big drum of beer for everybody and even a box of glasses! Ulf was a fine guest - he stayed with me for one night and we enjoyed a mexican restaurant and a swim in the lake of Zurich. Ulf is very outgoing and never at a loss for words, be prepared for a conversation about anything and to hear Ulf's opinion about the topic! first we catched up in london, then we overcame switzerland and recently we rang through the octoberfest nights in munic together - what a blast!

Ulf can talk the hind legs off a donkey... but he's interesting with it! We spent a really cool (not!) night in a spa/sauna place in Cologne. This guy will go out of his way to make sure you have a good time!

 

Had a great time hanging out with Ulf in Cologne. He is such a well prepared and fun host and it's obvious he's hosted a ton of couchsurfers. He took time out of his busy schedule to talk with me (alot), show me around Cologne, eat with me, drink with me and took me to a CS meeting that was awesome! All in all a rad guy with tons of energy.

Ulf hosted us one night he gave us useful advices for the night in Köln... and help me to find a car park near the cathedral. He is really nice !

Great couchsurfing experience. I surfed Ulf's couch with 2 french friends of mine (profile "cléchanic") and 2 swiss couchsurfers. We had a little BBQ in a park and in showed us a typical Cologne Kölsche bar. Very good couchsurfer, very welcoming. A+++

Ulf is a legend ... anyone who brings 20Liters of beer and 2lbs of sausages half way across the european continent is pretty rad in my eyes. Oh, and he even brought the right glasses to boot. He's friendly, funny and entertaining to say the least.

I met Ulf first in Cologne and then hosted him in Munich. It was an interesting experience! Ulf is a very generous person and will take the time to help you out if you ask for it. And if you want passionate conversation about a whole range of controversial topics then you got it!

Ulf hosted me and my friend Pedro for a night in Cologne in the way we met his american friend whose name I forgot, we had a good hang around on the center of Cologne. It was quite funny t osee Ukf keeping telling jokes while my friend couldn't stop whinnying. Man remmeber people they cant take shower after 10 o ' clock beacause of the little uns :) Btw they are great! All the best.

 

Ulf took time out of his weekend to show me and some of his surfers around Cologne. He is a fascinating person to speak to, and hopefully we will get a chance to meet up again...

I think you won't find a better couchsurfer in Cologne than Ulf! He is doing everything to help you out and is a master in giving you directions. He was so trustworthy and hospitable! Although he has a lot of things to do and is quite busy as a city ambassador, he has actually the time to get quite deep in touch with you and to take car about YOU.
Ok, all in all a really worthy ambassador, good friend and probably one of the best couchsurfers ever!

 

Ulf is absolutely amazing. A really friendly, warm exhuberant fellow, who never failed to brighten my day with jokes, insights, Harry Potter premiers and tubs of ice cream!! ...not to mention his unorthodox way of opening beer bottles...

We are here talking about a long-established Couch Surfer. He really seems to have fallen for CS a long time ago and seems to have been very commited from all that long years. He seems to have so much practice in hosting people he that our stay was going like clockwork (this doesn't imply a tight schedule - rather a well prepared and thought through list of things worth and recommended doing.

World Cup Extravaganza! Couchsurfing with Ulf was a real trip! He definitely kept me on my toes with his scharf tongue and clever wit :)

We had a great time watching the final games of the WM!

Ulf is a very active couchsurfer. First he brings me to the CS meeting in Bonn and that night we had a great fun. The rest of the days in Koln, he tried to introduce the best of Koln to me ( the Spa is wonderful!) with other couchsurfer as well. The last night we had a nice long chat on Christropper event. Of course he is a extremely nice person and very interesting as well! Meet him and sure you have a great fun :D

I first met Ulf couchsurfing in Dublin with Rory for a week during St. Patrick's celebrations. We sloshed down oceans of Guinness and marched through the frigid streets night after night to pub after pub and talked during the day and filled our bellies with wonderful cooking every evening and slept in a pile of nearly fifteen other surfers among beer cans and wine bottles and plates of vegetables and meat-stripped chicken bones. A few weeks later I found myself heading east to Cologne and contacted Ulf. He immediately barraged me with a totally unnecessary amount of helpful information that he thought I might need while in Cologne. I stayed with him for a few nights with another surfers and Ulf ensured that every moment of my stay was great. He went out of his way to arrange all sorts of activities for us and he got me addicted to sauna. Unfortunately he was fasting at the time and remained sober, though he was just as entertaining as if the dozens of water bottles he down like booze actually contained the livelier jostlements of whiskey. Ulf seems to paint himself in an overly weird light in his profile, but those who have met him know him to be one of the funniest, most hospitable people that they have ever met. Ulf is very intelligent and has lots to teach, and he will leave you dreaming of chocolate and sausage and Kolsch and Sauna once you leave. Ulf is a good friend to have. I hope to one day return during Carnival and party with Ulf again.

 

Ulf loves musicals (it's not gay, it's American...) and Alf. He's incapable of giving a short answer to any question and will yell at you if you step on the meat. He'll lecture about what's polite behaviour in Germany and then give you the details of his bowel movements. He'll show up at parties with a keg of Kölsch beer and sausages. But if he tries to teach you Finnish, ignore it. Please.

Ulf is a fantastic person to contact in Cologne. My girlfriend and I stayed with him for a night during our time in Cologne and had an excellent barbecue in the city park, where we met many other couchsurfers and students from all over the world! Our first couchsurfing experience, and it could not have been better. Because of Ulf, we knew that we definitely wanted to do CS for the rest of our trip through Europe!

I was wondering how is it going there...whats up in Colongne? Didn't we had a great time at Berlin Beach Camp, celebrating!? Oh, so much fun! And when the weater turned out shady we went to Sauna! Yes! Ulf, with you overall equipement, haha :) from instant coffee down to different salat oils, great! And then in July, the WM-Final to Berlin!

This guy is great, i cant say enough about him, he was my first host for couchsurfing and i could not have asked for more. He was extremely nice to me, made me feel perfectly welcomed, he introduced me to other couchsurfers, and most importantly he got me extremely interested in becoming more active in the couchsurfing community. I had a great time in Cologne, in no short part thanks to Ulf. He's bloody friendly and very knowledgeable about his city, and his pad is very cool to surf. Had plenty of German beers, which we'll have to do again when he comes down to Oz next year!

An amazing host! Man, oh man. Carnival 2006 was such a memorable experience and this guy made everything possible. Before the Carnival, it surprised me how much of his own time and effort Ulf spent organizing this whole event and making sure everyone knows what's going on and what will be going on. His emails were super long with detailed descriptions, schedules, lists, maps etc. I tried printing out the email and it was 6-7 pages long--not including the maps! Close to 20 people joined us for the event and Ulf made sure things went smoothly and tried to accommodate everyone's schedules and such. I think he actually had excel files to keep track of things! Carnival was a blast. Despite of the stress that may come with managing such a big group, Ulf seemed to really enjoy the party. We've had countless glasses of kolsch and he taught me how to samba in his geisha costume. He looks quite pretty--in a scary way--as a geisha! When we were at a pub that was very crowded, he also made sure I didn't get crushed or lost in the crowd. Very funny guy with lots to say. Ulf is definitely THE man!

It's too bad we didn't get more time with Ulf, but the time we did spend with him was excellent. The conversation was great and we were very much on the same page with him. He is an easy going and friendly person and knows how to enjoy himself and the others.

 

I shared a room with Ulf during the Fruehlingsfest, at Nico and Mathias' appartment. We had some interesting conversations about a lot of things. He's a realy interesting and fun guy to hang out with. Oh, and don't believe anything he will tell you about tuna and alcohol ;)

haven't spent enough time with Ulf, but nevertheless I know he's a great guy. Full of facts (not sure if it's true Austria could be the biggest country in the world if you'd flatten it though ;-) ) , very direct in his communication, crazy in a very, very good way (I know for sure I can never look at elephants the way I did before Queen's day in Amsterdam...), an enormous stock of saugages and very dedicated to the CSproject. Just reading his profile made me all :-D again. We'll meet again...? I sure hope so!!

Ulf was on my list of things to see in Cologne. I wanted Long-Ulf-Post in real life and wasn't disappointed. BUT: he is also listening very well. So be careful, you can't change your mind every 5 minutes - he will catch you with you pants down. UPDATE in Oktober 2008: I've hosted Ulf and his travelmate, whom I can't link here for some so called software improvements, for a night in the salon at my place in Hamburg. Besides a short sightseeing tour through typical hamburg weather, some good homemade food an a little pub crawl afterwards we again had a lot of discussions about god an the rest of the world and hospex in special. Unfortunately we agree in many things, so for the fun of pure discussing this was somehow limited, but I enjoyed it anyway. Finally we agreed that a limit of 1000 characters for references really suck, even if you're haven't read all this boring and contentless fairytelling, please tell me, where shall I write the next update, with just a single chararcter left?!

Ulf is a very cool guy who surfed my couch when he visited Dublin for St Patrick's Festival in 07 - unfortuntely and fortunately (!) there were many people here at the time so we didnt chat for as long as id have liked but we did all have a great time together!! Ulf IS THE BEST TOURIST GUIDE from Germany. I'm sure that if someone gets lost there at Köln, he will help you but at the same time, he will make fun of everything for giving you a good time. Ulf was my second couch that i surfed, and it still remains one of the most memorable. he joined me at the post office and led me to his house. i was still at the stage where i was a little un-easy about the couch surfing situation, but he quickly put me a ease. after i got settled we toured the town on bikes and he detailed the history of his city. i was very gracious and thanking him for the experience. but he brushed it aside as thou it was nothing, a truly generous soul. we had many provocative conversations making it a wonderful experience for me. There was never a dull moment. Thanks again!

Ulf is the absolute most committed couchsurfer i have met. he is 100% dedicated to providing an amazing experience for anyone and everyone who surfs with him. "Extremely Positive" doesnt even do ulf justice; they really need to make another level just for him. he put an unbelievable amount of time and energy into organizing his carnival meeting/party and i am forever grateful to him and to all of the surfers who made carnival 2007, for me, a once in a lifetime experience that i will never forget. Ulf... if you ever think about joining one of his annual Carnival meetings, stop thinking, DO IT! You will experience a party that you haven't had before. Ulf will be the best guide for this incredible crazy one-week drinking, singing, dancing and having just a good time event. Right outside his cellar-door there´s something I just always wanted to have back in brazil, beers really really cooooold!!! =D Unfortunatelly I´ve arrived in a busy week, but still he was up to host me and help out in whatever it was! Ulf doesn't read profiles, and you never know when he's talking on his cell phone, and he writes far too many instructions, and he gives away the secret to "The Usual Suspects", and he's one of the greatest guys on CS, so go to one of his parties or climb a cathedral or stay in his cellar or eat his sausages, and consider yourself lucky for the experience.

Ulf helped me and my friend out when we got stranded in Koln. Was extremely helpful and let us stay at his house on short notice. Generally just a really nice an helpful guy.

Ulf certainly is a CS Ambassador - he really has the system figured out so that guests can transition smoothly and really enjoy all that Cologne has to offer.

 

Ulf is a very nice guy. I think someone that drives from Cologne to Dusseldorf to pick up a fellow couchsurfer and then drives all the way to Rotterdam for a meeting, just to leave early next morning to go home can be called a true CS-addict!

 

Ulf Takes Care. ulf´s stopover in stuttgart last octobre was my first opportunity to get involved with the cs project. his two weeks of fasting cure forced him to do a break after 11 hours of driving. we had only 4 hours of talking, but it was enough to whet my appetite for more cs. I got to know Ulf's hosting-qualities while joining with 25 other surfers a
perfectly organised cs-meeting at carnival in cologne last weekend. the information he gave to every of us in advance were so detailed that even people from mars could have joined our group. besides the perfect organisation
(accommodation, mattresses, shower, maps, breakfast, ...) and a view for the whole, ulf also has this interpersonal
skills, most of all his empathy for each individual. during carnival he was plugged with a headset for beeing able to answer everyone's call (he looked like an matrix agent ;-) ). There is so much to say about this guy, just take a look to the other references. But you do better if you stay with him. I hope to see ulf soon since there is so much to thank for.

Ulf and I met at a California Republican Party convention. I was protesting, he was giving speeches. Total opposites. After his man George Bush took the lection again, we met in Paris at a CS meeting and again at Oktoberfest a few weeks later. What can I say? Cool guy. You can likely tell already from all the hubbub swirling around him. Meh.
Ulf is my favorite Republican on the rocks.

But my review of him pales in comparison to the grandeur he concocted about me. :o) I can't possibly come up with that sort of stuff.

hah. huh? ;) amazing experience with this (human) being. i had lot of (almost) rolling on the floor laugh at his ironical comments on everything but it was also nice to listen to his engrossing stories supported with great knowledge and impressive handling of English language.. though i shouldn't write it all because his ego will just burst within a second after he has read it! watch out on him, don't pay too many compliments, try to be sarcastic as he is and you'll have him as a really good company.

 

Ulf was amazing, no wonder he is an ambasador. When my mother and I uncouched and "slept" one night in the Hopbahnhof and sent out an emergency couch request. Ulf found us somewhere to stay even though his place was unavailable.

 

Ulf speaks his mind even daring to be misunderstood sometimes. Cameras still don't like him but I found a Brad Pitt smile in his face, seriously! Cool dude, only spare him from moskito wetlands. There's a lot more I can learn from Ulf beyond great scavenger hunts 'n' stuff. Good to be in the same city. ==Update Dec/Jan 2006/2007== I've also had the pleasure to co-host a Christmas meeting with Ulf in Cologne and try his comforftable couch after a long night dining out together with DUKE. Ulf is a Caveman who lives in a cellar with an impressing collection of Audio- and Videotapes from the 80's, and two massive home trainers. Did I say cool dude? Oh yep - but twice is not too much. The longer I know Ulf, the more I wonder if there's any topic that would leave him speechless. But above that, Ulf gets things done very effectively. Somebody claimed that he was over-organized. I say he's organized far over average. Thumbs up for Ulf!

 

I really enjoyed meeting Ulf in Austria... and I especially enjoy reading his group posts. They continually keep me informed and entertained. THanks Ulf!

 

What can I say about Ulf? Great guy, despite his dislike of Lord of the Rings :) He is really quite an interesting person, and I mean that in the best of ways! Some may snicker at his extremely detailed profile or instructions or meeting information, but he really saved my butt when I realized I had no idea how to get to his place. His directions were impeccable! And of course he is also loads of fun to hang out with, especially eating kebabs at 6 am. Thank you for being such a fabulous host, Ulf!

 

Group Leader/Guide Extraordinare! Ulf is one funny man, never forget him shouting out instructions at the top of his voice drowning out the carol singers close by telling people about the markets and how they have to drink at least one Gluhwein! Not to mention playing funny drinking games.

 

He tried to teach me "Viva Colonia" with some help from a few Maß during Oktoberfest. Now I atleast know what they're singing about, but I'm not having any hopes on a singing career. Ulf did his best and I'll definatly try to meet up with him again.

We're both friends of Christopher. We celebrated the beginning of Carnival 2006 in Cologne. He is a very good organizer. I think we'll have a good time in the future too.

 

I surfed Ulf' s Coach for a night. We had a funny sauna evening! He's a really clever, humorous guy! I enjoyed a good conversation with a really open minded person. Want to see him again on Carnival in Cologne!

 

A loud, cabaret and musical loving german with a special interest in the human body without admitting it... Is he gay? No, he's Ulf! Ulf always wants to win a converstaion and can't believe that people disagree with his line of reasoning. Conversations can be very intense, but they always end with a big laugh and a beer in your hand. Meet this guy, but come prepared! :)

I met Ulf in Paris for the first time. I immediately liked him and we shared and talked about many things. Our meeting for Oktoberfest was a crazy time - Ulf took care of us and made sure we did everything there was to do. Thanks for sticking with us when our hosts got lost! I hope you stop by Colorado when you are in the US again. Ulf is an awesome person - if you haven't already, get to know him.

As my first CS experience, it was nice to stay with such an active member of the community. Ulf seems like a great guy (and all the references below attest to that)--I wish I could have gotten to know him better. He definitely makes a great impression of what CS is all about

I surfed his couch several times. He has been my first cs experience so I can't forget it!He has been like a mum explaining me everything about the project. He is so active and organizes all the time meeting and I think is one of the most famous cs.so if u are close to Koln u defenetely have to meet him! It will be always fun to discuss about him about Germany and Italy! I'm sure we'll meet again. ciao bello!

I also feel I ll need to write a longer description - but here goes for now:
Was nice to have Ulf around at the CS. I am not completely sure if I manage to find the words yet - I remember Ulf as being a nice relaxed and open guy , open to making jokes with the other comrades , but I also remember him as being a guy bringing in interesting perspectives and details in (sometimes technical) discussions. I feel that hes also one of these people in CS with wich there is alot of potential to stay in touch with, and eventually further cooperate on some visions.

 

Cool guy! He organized an Oktoberfest meeting of surfers and did all he could for everyone there. Too bad he never gets drunk! And he's German! Haha

 

What can I say about Ulf, well besides being great to hang out with he has more brains than should be able to fit in one head. Even walking around Vienna he can tell you why each train station has its name and who built each building - amazed me. We met at Collective and then surfed couches in Vienna - Ok yes I can make some quick sandwiches, but what he forgot to mention is I will wake-up and unlock the door for him at 3 am.(Coming back to Europe Oct 30 Ulf) Maybe you can jump in a river and give me something to film AGAIN.

 

Ulf is a very supportive and gracious host and interesting to talk to. He showed me good and authentic German eating places, helped me out with certain things, and shared good travel stories. Highly recommended and hopefully we go on more travel adventures sometime...

 

Ulf was a great contribution to the CSC. He helped balance out the thoughts of the workshop I was moderating, and was very willing to lend a helping hand.

 

Ulf is a guy you cannot keep yourself from adoring. he may insult you as well as your entire nation, attack small puppies, snort tabacco, or stick things that you want to play with up his nose, but he really means the best. there is not one dull minute i have spent with him so far, and i am more than inclined to hitchhike to cologne to find out what else is possible...

 

after that great pizza and sauna experience we met again in Eisenstadt, had a chat, he sent us in the never ending woods around eisenstadt, but luckily we found our way back so we could have some more chats and the story goes on and on...(hopefully)

 

This is a very funny and symphatetic German fellow. We had the same host (who was also great) at the CS Gathering in Rotterdam. The meeting was very successful.

Ulf was just on the way through, doing some sightseeing, enjoying the first sunny days in Berlin, and got a bad sunburn because of biking with too little coverage:-)

 

It was nice to meet him.. he has a strong personnality and likes to express it ! ;-) As we talked a lot about Couchsurfing and hospitalityclub, some of our duscussions were energetic ! ;-) It was a pleasure to spend some evenings talking about that, it made me richer inside and gave me some other way of thinking... I learned and had pleasure with it ! He is a nice guy, you can see that behind his strong voice he has a big heart and is surrely a thrustfull guy !! It was great to meet him ;-)

Best KOLN Tour Guide! So long story short, I had a place to crash in Cologne but no real friends to hang out with. I contaced Ulf and he told me ´more the merrier´and to come along with the CS gang! Well I had the most amazing and wonderful experience at Karnival. I cant say enough nice things about Ulf! He is a WONDERFUL person, and I truly enjoyed getting to know him over the week I was there. He did a fantastic job of trying to keep track of around 18 individuals, make sure everyone had and was HAVING a fabulous time while in Koln, and still enjoy the festivities himself. I THINK he did all of the above, and then SOME! He was great making sure everyone got where they should be, and even guided home drunk people (via phone) at 2am in the morning. I cant thank him enough for everything and hope that we can keep in touch in the future. Also from a female perspective, if you worry about staying with some guy in another city...DONT worry with Ulf! Perfect Gentlemen, never felt safer! He would be the BEST guy to show you around a beautiful city!!!

Met him at the last rotterdam meeting. a very nice german bloke(i never thougt i would say this about someone from germany, me being dutch)friendly and open. nice to practice my german language with.

After learning to say his name properly I found out Ulf was a great guy. Always having fun, smiling, making jokes and covering himself in stickers. I am looking forward to welcoming you in Rotterdam. See you soon.

Well, I am damned forever...I will never be albe to watch "The sound of music" again without thinking of Ulf:)) Ulf can be a very funny guy when relaxed (see the CS video) and extremely serious and organisative when in charge of something (such a pitty we didn't video the Scavenger Hunt!).I can't say more now, but this reference is to be updated (and also colored;)) after the meetings in Paris and Munich...

carnival fun. Ulf is an excellent host, for the carnival in Cologne he organized all the directions, communications, costumes and venues for a big crowd of guests.
and whats even more important, showed us an example of partying ;D if u get a chance to be hosted by him,
u definitely will not be bored!

Ulf was a super smart and funny guy. He rode his bike to where we were, to meet us and rode back to his place all in the rain, that's how nice he is. He knows a lot about Cologne and Germany. He gave us great travel tips. Ulf doesn't mind partying either!

 

I met Ulf the first time at the Collective in Eisenstadt. He is very addicted CS Member like me and so i know him before from CS. I recommand him before as host to some of my couchsurfing guests and so we have now some common guests! I think we met for sure next time again or when im next time in Cologne!

A good caretaker :). Ulf made sure I wasn't lost in this big event which the World Youth Day definitely was. As I was coming on my own, I had contacted him before I left, and got all and even more information and help, so when I came I was in the know and didn't feel alienated. We went together with other Ulf's guests to the Marienfeld where we stayed overnight. The following Monday we spent walking around Cologne and trying out a good asian restaurant. I took delight in our small conversations, long walks, co-operation and not a small amount of laughter :) Ulf made sure everything work out properly and even when we didn't know which way to go, he kept his mind active and managed to find a way out successfully. But for his contribution and contribution of Judd, Maggie, Grass and Gio, I'd not have enjoyed Cologne as much as I did. And remember, the looooong pilgrimage to Czestochowa awaits!

 

A "REAL" REFERENCE (HIS STYLE...):He a is kind of guys that have everywhen clear opinion, goes exactly to center of things and in fact gets what he wants. And nothing can stop him !!!! UuHaHaHaaaa

 

When I first met Ulf it was a more or less sunny day and we were all having a picknick. He proceded to introduce himself, talk a bit or a bit more (a conversation I enjoyed very much) and then proved he has a very good sense of humor. Since then we have met at various Paellas where despite being a bit tipsy it became apperent that it is possible to have any conversation with Ulf. Be it intellectual or silly and this is something I appreciate very much. We also went skiing for a day in Austria and missed each other in Istanbul. I enjoy reading his posts and must say I like the reference he left me very much. It is defintitely Ulf-style and was worth the wait :) Thank you!

 

Picnic, talking, eating, discussing, partying.. Sums up hanging out with Ulf at the "BBQ" meet. He is an interesting guy to both talk to and party with. Im sure our CS paths will cross again some day!

 

I can think of a lot of cool things about Ulf and I will write them down as soon as I have a computer that is plugged into a wall and connected to the internet.

 

*insert quality attribute here* ... and that is what you get with Ulf. I was glad to have met Ulf at the Collective, and glad that he was there. His spirit definitely gave Eisenstadt incredible character. I cannot imagine the collective being what it was without Ulf's participation.

 

One of our two members from Köln and definitely the one whose posts on CS are the longest!! ;)

 

For a reason I can't explain thinking about Ulf let me sing "The hills are alive..." but I'll investigate on it! :) As you can see on the forums and as I saw at the Collective, Ulf has the power to sit down with people arguing and talking about planning, organizing or the insight philosophy of CS and a minute after you can see him like a crazy singing dude. I spent a little time with Ulf at the Collective but the coming up meetings I bet will be a blast.

ULF's the man. We had a great time staying with him and about 12 other football fans during the World Cup. I consider him a friend who I hope to see many times again in my life. As far as a couch surfing host, he's a MVCSH (Most Valuable Couch Surfing Host). Allright, bottom line is I highly recomend staying with ULF, and if you need to borrow some Capris' or half pants as ULF calls them, he's your guy.

 

A Host Par Excellence. Ulf hosted me and about 25 other couchsurfers for the Cologne Carnival 2006. He managed to accommodate all of us in a Parish building in the Colognian suburb of Rodenkirchen. The effort Ulf took to make the Carnival a memorable experience for all of us was totally phenomenal. To give an idea of how great a host he was, here are some of the things he did for us -- He provided blankets, mattresses, towels etc. for those who needed them, he managed to arrange showers for everyone at a bath house near the parish since the parish itself did not have showering facilities, he provided all of us with detailed maps, instructions, itineraries etc. so we were always informed enough to make our own decisions, he kept the earphones of his mobile plugged in his ears at all times so as to always be reachable, he always anwered every question with the utmost patience etc. etc.. But the best thing of all was that he gave each and every one of us the complete freedom to enjoy in whatever way we liked. We were free to come and go as we pleased. These are all the hallmarks of a truly great organizer and I think that Ulf cetainly is one. It will take a truly great couchsurfing experience to displace my time with Ulf from the top of my list. Viva Ulf!

Staying at Ulf's home was great. We were a group of eight, split among three Coach Surf providers @ Cologne and as it was on weekends, Ulf joined us in clubbing and sightseing. He is not only a nice, welcoming host, but also knows a lot about Cologne, its history, its buildings, people, etc.

Ulf is such a GREAT host! :-). No one host has given me such an amount of detailed information about everything regarding his place as Ulf did, so far. So much that I started following his example and now I’m also keeping explanations about many things regarding Lisbon, so that I can supply them to my hosts. So my future hosts should thank Ulf for the idea!
This information exchange before we met was also important so that we knew ourselves well enough before we actually met. Therefore, speaking to Ulf was very easy since the very first moment, as long as he didn’t have to answer his mobile phone. :-)

In spite of his business schedule, he managed to take me to some wonderful Christmas’ markets, a fine restaurant, as well as his youth group Christmas dinner.
I had the opportunity to meet wonderful German people at Cologne, especially at the dinner, and that changed my mind, a lot, about German people: for the best! I think they are not as cold as I was told they would be. Everybody talked to me cheerfully, even at the restaurant! :-)
I’m keeping wonderful memories especially of the Christmas markets, the Cologne Cathedral staircases climbing... and of course, the Christmas dinner. I just loved it! I have made some wonderful and unforgettable videos about it.

... and sorry for not being able to drink as many beers as you. :-) However, I don’t think you drank more Glühwein than I, did you? ;-) I loved it and it wasn’t that bad for my stomach.

Last, but not least, I didn’t forget that ride to the airport. It was thanks to you that I didn’t lose that flight! I owe you that! I just hope to be able to pay you back someday! ;-)

Ulf is quite simply a hosting machine! He somehow looked after about 20 of us on one of the nights I surfed with him. Who knows how he does it. Do yourself a favour & go to Cologne & put yourself in his capable hands!

It was great that we finaly got to meet. Ulf, nick, and I had a good conversations over drinks and dinner. He is clearly an intelligent guy with a very sardonic sens of humor and many interesting perspectives on the constantly evolving(or at the very least growing) conerns, complaints and,gribes over various aspects of tCS politics. I enjoyed discussing the future and present state of our wonderful prject.

It waas great to finally meet you Ulf and I hope we can do it again soon

Incredible guy. He is really nice, he hosted us for two days (me and a friend of mine) and went with us to show almost everything (i think we missed some spots :)) in Cologne, and what a beautiful city!!!!! He is very respectfull and thrustworthy. We had also nice conversations about local culture and history :)

Ulf - the Know & Do it all! I crashed at Ulf's place for a night during the whole buzz of the World Cup. A very kind man, we made it out to the city sights as well as a couple of public viewings for the World Cup where we were mobbed by crazy drunk Englishmen and caught in a downpour where he danced the mighty dance of the Korean Taeguki Warriors!

He knows loads and has done it all in Colonge. A man who has his eyes on a Utopia of couchsurfing =). A solid man indeed!

 

from the most northern Italian colony. Nothing is impossible in Cologne, given time, money and a few loose connections. As long as you don't mind doing a few errands, meeting interesting people, borrowing cars, fixing computers and shopping for computer parts, getting dizzy climbing the cathedral's stairs, trying fabulous Kolsch beer and less faulous sausage: Ulf is someone that you should know! If you want to be involved, have a great laugh and be part of the action, Cologne just might be the place that you've been looking for...

guy that seizes every day.. What I remember Ulf for is probably how talkative he was. and i liked that. First night, i remember when we got to my place after the game of hockey among lots of other fans, we had a nice and quite a long conversation about law&maths and i forgot i was about to brush my teeth and after many minutes i realized i'm holding a towel,paste and a toothbrush in my hands:) so Ulf is perfect guy to get an evening beer with.
He speaks great English, sometimes it was too fast for me to catch up, so it may have occured that he told some jokes between the lines and i didnt get it:). anyway, this man is full of energy, to me it seemed that he always needs to do something, needs to be active, both physically and mentally. He just wants to grab the day.
I am sure that he is perfect host himself, all I can say guys is 'go, meet him!
and the way Ulf spoke about Cologne must definitely enthuse everyone. in fact, it did, and i hope to arrive there one day, especially to see the carnival..

24HRS with ULF!! I only had a fleeting visit but crammed alot in I landed dropped my things off at his place then hit Cologne he took me to a tradional beer hall which was great the local beers whent down well then off to some other bars which we proceeded to do zambuger shots in, which to ulfs surprise was drinking in one go and insisted he do the same!!
I think this got the better of Ulf at one bar as I temporarly lost him for an hour in a bar as he had fallen asleep on a beer stool!!
