Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
Couch Available: Maybe Preferred Gender: Any Max Surfers Per Night: 2
Shared Sleeping Surface: No Shared Room: NoSleeping on an inflatable airbed in livingroom. We have an ensuite so you'll have to walk through our bedroom to get to the bathroom.
My partner Flo ( www.couchsurfing.com/flo80 ) and I live in a one bedroom apartment in South Yarra/Melbourne. It takes 15 minutes via train to the CBD. We're nestled between posh Toorak Road and Chapelstreet with heaps of great cafes and good shopping.
When I host I like to be a good host. Couchsurfing is about so much more than only about a free place to sleep. I believe in the principles of mi casa es su casa.
You'd be sleeping on an inflatable double airbed. We have Pillows, blanket and sheet.
We do not have a landline (telephone) but internet which you can use in reasonable quantities.
We don't smoke and would ask you to smoke outside if you do.
I work shifts so I never know when I have to work or when I'm free. If I work early I will be walking through the living room around 6 a.m. and will go to bed around 11 p.m.
Due to the nature of the recent request I got please read through the two Couchsurfing wikipages
http://wiki.couchsurfing.com/en/How_to_write_a_CouchRequest
and
http://wiki.couchsurfing.com/en/Searching_and_requesting_a_couch
before contacting me.
If you are new to the system and do not know how to write a CS request here are a few tips of my own, which might be covered by the
wikipages but which I find most important:
It is very important in assuring a place to stay that
you make the potential host feel that you are not a
freeloader who is just trying to not pay a hostel.
Read the profile and write your request accordingly.
Mine for example says that I do not consider requests
made via normal message but only via the Couchsearch
function - these are hints that show a host if you are
interested in him /her and made at least the effort to
read the profile.
Give your host a reason to host you. In Melbourne
it's not unusual to receive 2-3 requests daily - so
why should someone host you and not the others that request a couch ? Make yourself interesting by writing an interesting request.
And remember to not only contact the first few people that come up when you do the couchsearch - they are the ones that
get all the requests. So If I have to decline your request you might be more lucky if you contact the ones that show up on the second or third
page.
While being an ambassador I helped a lot of frustrated hosts. Please be considerate of your host.Your hosts open
their home to you!The most common problems could have been avoided by remebering these simple ideas:
Taking something without asking is theft. That includes food and internet data!A flatrate doesn't exist in Australia.
Overextending your stay without prior permission from your host by asking him/her is unacceptable.
Leaving their place messy/dirty is treating them like a maid.

or go directly to

Note! I will not reply to Couchsurf request via a normal message! Use the " Couchsurf with" buttonif it doesn't show on my profile, that means I can't host.

Personal DescriptionThou shall not squeeze the Miss into the corset of wordsHow I Participate in CSCurrently lifes schedule does not allow me to participate much.
I used to be the Melbourne city ambassador
the Australian country ambassador and the Global ambassador affiliated with Oceania , but the time has come to step back and let other members with more time and enthusiasm lead fulfill those tasks.
Apologies to everyone for not living up to any expectations you might have had in me. I couldn't, due to the role of global ambassador not living up to the expectations I had in it. It left me frustrated to a point of disliking CS enough to not log in for 6 month and now slowly starting to like it again as a simple member.
CouchSurfing ExperienceIf I can't travel the world the world travels to me - and CS has made that possible - and enabled me to see the globe.
InterestsLiving, not only spending time and experiencing not only hearing of
I like and dislike the same things - it just always depends on the time of day.
Biggest interest when I'm at home ( wherever that might have been the past few years) is how to get on the road again as soon as possible.
And when I'm on the road? A good party, a great chat , an awesome hike, a new adventure, the great outdoors, new people, places, cultures,... to much stuff - oh - and not to miss my all time favourites: sleeping and eating!! ( both best in front of the TV - although I never owned one )PhilosophyThere are smarter people than me that came up with the best philosophies, the one I´m trying to live has been said by Kant "Act in such a way that you always treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, never simply as a means, but always at the same time as an end."
or if I just translate his german words into stylisticly bad but easy to understand english:
Always life your life so that the maxim of your free will could be general law.
Types of People I enjoyFind the special something inside of ´em and you´ll always have somebody interesting in front of you
In general broadminded, tolerant and easy going. BUt although most people claim to incorporate such attributes, few actually do. Teach, Learn, ShareAehm - I'm a nurse - so if you have an accident around me and I should feel like ( which I strongly think I would ) it I'll give you some first aid...or second, or third..chocolate always helps.
hmm - and I'm quite tall - so if we meet by change in a shop I can get you stuff from the top shelf.
And I can talk backwards - due to 13 years of practice in school - if you feel that could help you ( something new if your voice doesn't even pass the singing in the shower level)- I have no idea if it's teachable.
I would like to learn how to look someone straight into the eyes and NOT be the one that bursts out laughing first.
Also greatly appreciated would be if you could tell me what happens to the days that don't exists ( last one November 3rd) everytime I fly around the world eastbound One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneI got to be a judge at the state fair - responsible for the cake and fudge section - and I am the Definition of a chocoholic
NEWONE I´ve been diving with a WHALESHARK :-D
NEWEST ONE: I was a judge at the methodist sunday school choir singing contest - in the most remote place on earth ( Yadrana) and without speaking the language, or even belonging to the church
EVEN NEWER ONE:Don't know yet but it's just about to be experienced - somewhere in NewZealand - and it will be??? Amazing - what else.Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectCS has definitely done a great change in my life - having opened doors and opportunities that wouldn't have been there otherwise.

Hope they come back and or we meet up again somewhere.
From SMERSH Auckland, New Zealand Nov 17, 2008 Positive Danny was really helpful with tips on Akl CS and then her & Flo were not only good enough to offer every CS'er their belongings they couldn't take travelling, but it was Danny's birthday(on which she also had to work) and we went out for coffee & cake. Thanks guys, you are good people and a credit to CS :-)
From Kirin Bhalla Auckland, New Zealand Nov 16, 2008 Positive Met Danny on the day that she was packing up to go on her road trip around New Zealand. Had coffee with her to celebrate her birthday. Danny is a calm, friendly and very engaging person. She is a very likeable person who works extremely hard. Danny and Flo surfed with me before they left for Australia. Danny is a very humorous person, a real easy-going and relaxed nature with a great sense of humour. Had many conversations until the wee hours in the morning and watched the extended version of the LOTR (all 3 episodes!). Hope to catch up again one day.
From Anna Bockskopf Hannover, Germany Nov 11, 2008 Positive It was great to stay with danny and flo, they are very friendly and helpfull. Hope to meet them again, maybe back home in germany or in oz!?
From ELAINE S Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Nov 6, 2008 Positive I stayed with Danny and her partner Flo for 6 days in Auckland. From Jake Niece Boulder, United States Sep 16, 2008 Positive I had a great experience with Danny and Flo. You both helped me out so much during my first days.
From Leon Wiki Raglan, New Zealand Sep 16, 2008 Positive Danny is awesome! She and her partner Flo came to stay with me over the WRC Rally. Danny is a Couch Surfing expert, and it's very obvious that shes not in it to just sleep on your couch. She in it to experience your culture and life. I love couch surfers like that. As my good friend Will Ferrel would say "If you don't like this girl I will fight you, that is no lie" CHEERS!
From PANAMIKE Dunedin, New Zealand Aug 29, 2008 Positive Danny was an excellent host. Im glad she didnt have to work the days I went to get to know each other. She is very helpful and knows a lot about couch surfing! Thanks for the hospitality and all the tips. Take care and viel gluck in Australia!
From George Wilson Okiwi, New Zealand Aug 24, 2008 Positive Was a pleasure having Danny & Flo to stay, they definitely made the most of their time here & proved to be very intrepid hunter/gatherers! - all the best for your travels down south Danny... Jed says hi!
From Noah Fox Berkeley, United States Aug 12, 2008 Positive It was great to meet Flo and Danny. I surfed their couch for 4 nights in Auckland. They're very kind, respectful and sophisticated, fun- people. I liked that they were very outgoing. We walked around Takapuna Beach in a downpour :) I'm very pleased to have met these two and I hope they keep in touch!
From Michael Straßburger Regensburg, Germany Jul 26, 2008 Positive I have to quote much-wiser-than-me-guys to describe this brilliant girl!
in Plato's words: to be is to do
in Marx's words: to do is to be
in Frank Sinatra's: dobedobedobedobedoo
I'm happy to found her as an true-hearted, active and fun producing friend with an awesome balance between seriousness and well placed nonsense - 1000 characters are far too less to describe short term long term hosting, time jumps, mighty mouse, anti-sleepy calls from 3m distance, vespin gas and strategy monitoring, breakfasts/launches/dinners, sms night care and a departure checklist :-)
Just a _huge_ thanks for everything and the way you are! 7 awesome days and I'm sure: more will follow!
From Aaron Herber Auckland, New Zealand Jul 2, 2008 Positive This couple were very fun. They made themselves at home and were immediately relaxed. They cooked a couple of amazing meals and were considerate. I was in my exams and they were very understanding of that.
From David Cranwell Auckland, New Zealand Jun 24, 2008 Positive helpfully wrote a series of instructive notes for everything in my house so i can now find my way around and operate everything without thinking
From Vincent CHU Hong Kong Island, China Jun 10, 2008 Positive They spent 4 days in my place, we tried some local Chinese dim-sums & meal at revolving restaurant. Glad that they enjoyed it. One day I took them into the nature of Hong Kong, which I bet they won't be able to discover by themselves -- an eye-opener for them. CU in New Zealand & have a nice time there.
From Juan Carlos Polo Barcelona, Spain Apr 21, 2008 Positive Danny and Flo stayed two nights at home. I can't spend too much time with their but we shared two dinners. We had nice chats. It was a short (but really good) time. I hope someday meet us again!!
From Beni McKenzie Brisbane, Australia Apr 16, 2008 Positive Though we are yet to meet it's only a matter of time. Danny's work when she was the only Aussie Country Ambassador was very helpful and supportive to me as a City Ambassador.
From ELIZABETH P Sydney, Australia Mar 28, 2008 Positive I was new to CS and found the details of Danny and have been in constant email communication. She is so positive and has been so helpful in answering my questions and offering great advice.
I really hope I catch up with her abroad and would Host her anytime- keep in contact!
From Caspar Bauermann Berlin, Germany Jan 27, 2008 Positive Danny contacted me now she is back in Berlin for a while. We had the chance to get to know each other on a CS brunch. I enjoyed chatting with her and to learn details about Australia and the CS organization there. Danny indeed is an experiend Couchsurfer. See you another occasion.
From Dhugal Fletcher Perth, Australia Nov 12, 2007 Positive In the world of crazy german elves, Danny is their queen. But watch out for the robotic dinosaurs, they can keep her at bay for a short time only...at least until she masters the radio controlled helicopter perhaps...Great conversations, great laughs and a pleasure to frood around with..hope you liked the fireworks I arranged and I hope your rosemary addiction doesn't take control too often ;) Well, you can always come and have another fix when you're back here next year...
From xNOTHINGxHELDxBACKx Port-aux-Francais, French Southern and Antarctic Lands Oct 23, 2007 Positive I want to say that Danny is like every other German girl that I met; beautiful, smart, well traveled and funny...but theres just something more to this girl...not sure I can put my finger on it but its always good vibes around her and the more I run into her the more good vibes I get :)
From Silkkat813 Weehawken, United States Sep 27, 2007 Positive We met for coffee and then saw a movie. The movie was cheesy in my opinion, but it was still a good night. Then we had drinks in a dark alley with my CSing host and had another great night. Hope to hang out more before I leave Melbourne and maybe meet again in our travels.
From BEN & NIC Adelaide, Australia Sep 5, 2007 Positive Danny came to stay with us for one night and thankfully stayed for three. It was an absolute pleasure having her stay with us and only wished it could have been longer. Danny's consideration of others, her openness and honesty coupled with a great sense of humour should be warmly welcomed by all couchsurfers. We hope that you will be able to make a return visit to us some day and have another pie floater!!
From HARRYHARRISON P'yongyang, North Korea Aug 15, 2007 Positive This lovely miss cared for my house more than I could.
From wonderfulwanderlust Edmonton, Canada Jul 30, 2007 Positive Danny is clever and witty, a great conversationalist, and brilliant at keeping her inner child alive and well. She's a delightful person to pass the time with. And she kindly shares her stash of chocolate. :)

From JOAO Melbourne, Australia Jun 22, 2007 Positive Danny is a warm hearted person. She hugs and she kisses! I like her humour: sarcastic, witty, clever. And oh God, she is so tall!!
And I recommend: Koko Black with Danny!
From PEEL Melbourne, Australia Jun 7, 2007 Positive I was really looking forward to meeting Danny and she's cooler than I thought!! We had a great time chatting and laughing and talking nurse talk.
From NIGHTFELL Bristol, United Kingdom May 25, 2007 Positive Danny is unlike anyone I have met. She is so full of laughter and life, it is infectious. Honestly, it is hard to be in a sour mood in the presence of this woman. After surviving through such obstacles together as the chimpanzee woman, the impossible-to-find-a-park scenario and the attack of the overlarge santa hat, I can say with great conviction that Danny is someone everyone should meet. Don't let her height fool you, she is a child at heart. You rock Danny.
From Mathieu Laplante Montreal, Canada May 12, 2007 Positive I had a great time with Danny in Melbourne and the others surfers and host while my firsts days in Melbourne. Now I am back in Melbourne and for sure we are gonna spend some times together!
From Herrmann Koenigs Berlin, Germany Apr 11, 2007 Positive I got to know that girl as someone who is keen for everything. Just ask her and she'll probably want to meet you. She helped me participating in bike ride through Melbourne when she lent me a bicycle of a mate of hers. It was very nice to hang with her, too.
From Simon-Losana Greaves Dublin, Ireland (Republic of) Apr 9, 2007 Positive Danny is very friendly, outgoing and very easy to get along with.
From Dudy Margalit Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel Apr 5, 2007 Positive Danny seems like a soffisticated cute girl who is really nice to hang out with!
From carman Ratulevu Suva, Fiji Mar 29, 2007 Positive danny rocks...she not only came to visit bt to 'heal' sick ppl as well...lol..rock on danny yeah!!!
From Nicole Montu Suva, Fiji Mar 26, 2007 Positive She's a nice gal. And a gud baker 2.
Ask her to bake sum of her cookies if u eva get to host her (oopss...sorry danni :-p) Anyways hope to meet up again sum day soon danni. Tc and have fun in Aus.
From Harinder Seera Melbourne, Australia Feb 26, 2007 Positive Hehehehehe, She is a funny person and nice to hang around. You can have a good time with her.

From Pavlos Iliopoulos Weimar, Germany Dec 29, 2006 Positive I have a feeling of knowing her for ages, and even if she's globetrotting for the last months, I can't think of my beloved Berlin without her. Danny, enjoy life and people wherever you adventures take you!
From Andrea Talei Waqa Suva, Fiji Dec 12, 2006 Positive Danny was my 1st CS & she hit it off with my family and friends, we just got along and we didnt mind at all when she wanted to stay on, she came at a difficult time during our coup but she took on the experience as part and parcel of Fiji living. She made this christmas calendar, where we pick gifts each day, baked her famous apple pie, helped make dessert for a wedding, helped making juice after Sunday church service, supported us during our christmas drama, and the kids just adore her.....I enjoy hosting Danny and anyone would because she has a free and beautifull spirit. Id take her on anytime and anyone who is a friend of Dannys is a friend of mine....Danny is part of our kaiviti family!
From BRANDONCHALK San Francisco, United States Nov 25, 2006 Positive We hosted Danny and three of her friends at our place for a night. They had some funny stories to share and we were glad to help host them during their friends' crazy honeymoon roadtrip.
From Emerson Lenon Portland, United States Nov 22, 2006 Positive Danny needed a place to crash. Her best friend was getting married in Hawaii and while the wedding party reserved a hotel room in Waikiki, Danny prefered to couchsurf (like all of us) and she chose me! I wish I had got to spend more time with her, but nevertheless she was a fantanstic guest and I would host her again in an instant.
Hopefully by the time I can travel to Germany she will be done with her round the world trip and can host me in Berlin!
From Michael Mooney Honolulu, United States Nov 22, 2006 Positive Dany and her friend Dennis stayed with me for 2 days because their best friends were getting married in Hawaii. Pleasant, good conversations, and great guests.
From Heather Frederick Colon, Costa Rica Nov 8, 2006 Positive I wish Danny and I had had more time to spend together but I had a great time at the bar we went to. I <3 Germans!
From Stephanie Palmer Sunnyside, United States Aug 28, 2006 Positive Danny is a really lovely person! Even though she was about to move out of her apartment, she still hosted me, and although we didn't hang out much during the day, I certainly think of her as a friend! Thanks so much!!!
From Promitheus Norwich, United Kingdom Aug 27, 2006 Positive rescuing Promitheus... ...or how else would i know that Promitheus was actually set free by Hercules...Danny told me so:)
So my fellow friends you can imagine myself being rescued and transfered in her wonderfully decorated flat in Berlin. Colors, music, perfumes and here you go...Danny is simply wonderful.
From Santiago Halty Paris, France Aug 19, 2006 Positive Danny was one of the happiest hosts i had, and she has a great sense of Humor. She had long working shifts when i was in berlin, so we could not spend so much time together. We did have the chance to have a beer one night, and that gave me the chance of seeing a completally different type of bar (at least for me).
She is very easy going, always in a good mood and ready to help me
Good luck in your super One Year trip, and contact me when you are in San Diego
From Claudia Petrat London, United Kingdom Aug 3, 2006 Positive had an awesome time in Berlin thanks to Danny! she showed us around and was a great host with a great place!
From Doranne Loke Singapore, Singapore Aug 2, 2006 Positive Lovely home!! She brought us around to all the cool cafes. Extremely enjoyable time spent in Berlin thanks to Danny.
From Preetam Sagane Mumbai, India Jul 25, 2006 Positive Great girl with very good knowledge about berlin.Very friendly too,we spent one day walking all over berlin.
From FISHRICH Chico, United States Jul 24, 2006 Positive A Berlin paradise!! What an amazing place to stay in Berlin! Danny's apartment is like a paradise oasis within the heart of Berlin! She was a great host and very informative about sites and areas around the city. We would recommend anyone stay with her if they get the chance!
From Alessandro C. Torino, Italy Jul 24, 2006 Positive Danny is a hard working girl, but she knows how to have fun. We spent a brief night in Hamburg and then the World Cup Final match in berlin (We won :-P) and she was so cute to have us staying at her MARVELLOUS place near Postdamer platz...
From Caroline Pretty Edinburgh, United Kingdom Jul 19, 2006 Maybe next time? Danny very kindly offered me her couch at short notice. She made it seem no trouble at all, which was really cool. Unfortunately due to various circumstances (mostly due to me being a bit disorganised) we didn't meet up in the end, but I would definitely look her up next time I'm in Berlin. She seems like a lovely person.
From Mary Bauman Austin, United States Jul 19, 2006 almost too good to be true! :-). My friend and I stayed with Danny for two nights in Berlin (and then for an emergency night two days later) :-) and she was terrific! She had to work while we were there, but made sure we were settled and gave us good ideas of places to visit. Even after we left to go stay with another couch surfer, we called her again and went out for breakfast together one morning. She is an amazing person that makes you feel like an immediate friend and I really hope one day I could meet up with her again!
From CAT007 Montreal, Canada Jul 19, 2006 Thank you Danny for your hospitality ! For my first couchsurfing experience, I couldnt have dreamed about a better host ! Danny has welcomed me in a very nice way, I felt I was a very special person ! We also had very interesting conversations. To visit Berlin and to meet Danny is, according to me, the best way to travel in this city !
From -=MILAS=- Ecublens, Switzerland Jul 19, 2006 Thank you for everything. No one would need anything more than what she gave us. Thanks for your hospitality Danny...
From Ufuk Aktas Oslo, Norway Jul 19, 2006 She deserves the best.... If you want to ask for her to stay at her amazing crib, you have to think if you worth it...And if you are going to stay at your place and meet her you may consider yourself lucky...
From David Worsham New Albany, United States Jul 19, 2006 Great soul. With out a doubt one of the most beautiful and kind people in Germany. She really knows how to make you feel welcome.
From Grzegorz Kmetyk Zary, Poland Jul 19, 2006 Checkpoint Danny. Monuments you need to see while being in Berlin: Reichstag, Brandenburg Tor,
, beautifuly decorated flat with a great view on the city occupied by a great, generous, polite, interesting person thank you Danny, for my first surf I couldnt have a better host.
From Donato Gulino Nairobi, Kenya Jul 19, 2006 ..never seen..never forget Danny. ..it was my first couch surfing experience..I have met Danny just 2 times in 3 days (for a few minutes)..because she had to work hardly..but..she has been very kind with me and Agnese: the first day she left us a very nice good morning message..
The second day..she left us a sweet present..chocolat....and she never got angry with us..when we woke up her (2 times)
I'm sorry i haven't had conversation with her..and so i hope i'll meet Danny again! |
