Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
Couch Available: Yes Preferred Gender: Any
Wheelchair Accessible: Yes
Max Surfers Per Night: 4
Shared Sleeping Surface: No Shared Room: YesThis is a studio condominium, so, by definition, there is only one room. The available sleeping accommodations for guests consist of a double futon (for up to 2 people traveling together) and two separate folding cots (for up to 2 additional individuals). We sometimes accept requests from multiple CouchSurfers traveling independently of each other, because this can be a lot of fun. If you want to stay with us, please send an actual CouchSurfing request and not just a CS message.
We are often out of town on weekends, especially in the summer. Sometimes if you ask to surf with us on a weekend, we might not be available, or we might invite you to come with us.
We get up early in the morning to cook a full breakfast on weekdays! If you are not an early riser on weekdays, we might not be the best hosts for you. But if you like to start your day right with plenty of delicious food, you'll fit right in!
What's Available...
Our "couch" consists of one double-size futon which, when folded flat, is very much like an actual bed and can sleep two very comfortably. We also have two folding cots available for additional surfers.
Blankets are available. We live with our 14-year-old dog, Perkee, in a south-facing studio condo. The best food co-op in the entire Seattle area, with fresh organic produce and lots of delicious natural food, is right downstairs! The entire neighborhood is very walkable and has excellent bus service.
Laundry facilities are available right here inside our flat. You are welcome to do laundry here.
Things to do in and around Everett...
Boeing Factory Tour
Tour the world's largest building, where Boeing assembles the 747, 777, and 787 passenger jets. It's really impossible to imagine the scale of this place until you've seen it firsthand. The $15 admission ticket includes admission to the somewhat less remarkable Future of Flight museum.
Skiing & Snowboarding
It's possible to reach the Stevens Pass ski area by bus from Everett from mid-December through March. The downhill area operates 7 days a week, and Nordic skiing is available from Thursday though Sunday.
Puget Sound Beaches (wildlife viewing)
One very interesting beach is located at the outlet of Pigeon Creek, a 1-mile walk from our couch in Downtown Everett. Very few people visit here because there is no access by car. The walk from Downtown Everett is less than one mile and provides an interesting view of an active container terminal along the way. Once you arrive at the beach, you're very likely to see local wildlife including seals and bald eagles! (Of course, It's best to visit at low tide.)
Best Coffeehouse Ever
Zippy's Java Lounge, a CouchSurfer-friendly coffeehouse that also offers a wide variety of food, is located about a ten-minute walk from our couch. They have a poetry open-mic on Thursday nights and live music on Friday nights.
Indoor Climbing
The "Vertical World" climbing gym is located one block from our couch.
Whidbey Island
Monday through Saturday, a 50-cent bus ride from Downtown Everett takes you to the Mukilteo ferry terminal, where, you can catch a half-hourly Washington State Ferry to the Clinton ferry terminal on Whidbey Island. From there, you can catch a free Island Transit bus to fun communities like Langley and Freeland.
San Juan Islands via Anacortes
If you're on your way to the San Juans from Seattle and you're riding transit, Everett's a great place to stop over for the night! On weekdays we're just three transit buses away from the Anacortes Ferry. For example, if you leave Everett at 6 a.m., you can be at the Anacortes ferry terminal by 7:35!
Hiking in the Cascade Mountains
Wallace Falls State Park, located an hour from Everett (a $1.25 bus fare), offers a moderate hike to a series of cascading waterfalls. More advanced hikers can explore connecting trails to Wallace Lake, for distances ranging from 5 km to 20 km round-trip. If you're up for a real wilderness adventure, the legendary Pacific Crest Trail is accessible at Stevens Pass, a $16 bus ride from Everett Station. Numerous additional trailheads await in the Henry M. Jackson Wilderness, the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, and the Wild Sky Wilderness. Miles has explored many of these trails and would be happy to offer personal recommendations based on your level of fitness/experience and this year's snow levels.
Visit Seattle
Seen Everett? Loved it? Looking for more? Seattle is only an hour away...
Getting here...
From Seattle
ST Express Routes 510 and 513 travel here directly from Seattle via the freeway. The ride costs only $2.50. There is a stop at Wetmore and Wall in Downtown Everett, about a ten-minute walk from our couch. This bus runs every 30 minutes or better until 7, then every hour until midnight. Travel times are about 40-60 minutes, depending on the time of day. It's also possible to catch a train from Seattle to Everett for $4.50 on weekday afternoons.
From Sea-Tac Airport
If you are coming from Sea-Tac Airport, you can connect to the 510 by catching the 194 Express to Seattle at the airport terminal. (In late 2009, the 194 Express will be replaced by a light rail train.)
Amtrak, Greyhound, Trailways
Many regional buses and trains serve Everett Station. The station is located about a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute bus ride from our couch.
Pilots
If you're a pilot arriving by small airplane, Paine Field is a great airport for visitors, with a friendly FBO called Regal Air. It's possible to come downtown from Paine Field on Everett Transit.
Driving a car?
If you happen to be traveling in your car, veggie bus, or tea bus, there is abundant street parking in the vicinity.
Diet and lifestlye...
Please be aware that our condo is alcohol-free, non-smoking, drug-free, and gluten-free.
Breakfast: why settle for continental?
We generally get up early in the morning, except on weeknds. Breakfast at our place generally involves gluten-free pancakes, Belgian waffles, salmon omelettes, or the like. If you have food allergies, we can accommodate.
Availability...
The number of days that our couch is available is subjective. Most of our CouchSurfing visitors stay for 2 nights, but we're very flexible people. If we're planning a camping trip or excursion, or if you're pretty sure that we'll get along fabulously well, a slightly longer stay may be just fine. Let's talk.
Dogs Welcome...
We have a friendly, 30-pound, 15-year-old female dog, a lab-schipperke mix. If you are traveling with a friendly, adult, medium-size or smaller, spayed/neutered, house-trained dog, please feel welcome here.
Secret Advice...
Include the top-secret words "aquarium fishing is silly" somewhere in your CS request, and we'll know that you've actually read our profile!
Accessibility notes...
Note for Wheelchair Users: Elevator; 36-inch doors; 2 blocks from the nearest bus stop; all buses in the Seattle metro area are equipped with a wheelchair lift or ramp. Our bathroom might be a little bit tight for a wheelchair but it should be workable.
Note for Blind CouchSurfers: Miles has a good friend who's blind. Perkee usually gets along well with guide dogs.
Note for Deaf CouchSurfers: Miles can sign a little bit of American Sign Language, but he's not great at it. If you're patient, though, I'm sure that we'll be able to communicate! Friends (44)

From Ravin Pierre Everett, United States Oct 19 Positive The are wonderful Everett neighbors and gracious host and guides to the Pacific Northwest.
From ME LLAMO JENN Colorado Springs, United States Oct 12 Positive I unfortunately didn't get to meet Miles and Maia, but was able to surf at their house and take care of the very lovable Perkee while they were out of town and I was in town for a wedding. I hope to be able to meet up with them the next time I'm in the area! Thanks Miles and Maia!
From Andreas Langer Munich, Germany Sep 15 Positive My friend Jürgen and me only stayed for one night with Maia and Miles but despite of that little time they were wonderful hosts! They gave us excellent advice on what there is to do and to see around Everett and they even prepared a delicious dinner and breakfast for us. Thank you so much for everything!
From Matthew Murray Vancouver, Canada Jul 18 Positive We ate dinner at Lacey's house.
From Charles Hathaway Columbus, United States Jul 1 Positive Miles and Maia have a cool place. It has a sweet view of the sound in Everett. I also managed to have the best sleep of the trip, and the best bed (which I'm very grateful of)! They managed to direct us down to Seattle and back without a hitch. It was fun discussing the environmental/ethical dilemma of modern gold mining. You're welcome to stay at my place in Columbus if you ever make it east.
From Rafaela Kirloss Pasadena, United States Jul 1 Positive I met Maia in June of 2009 when I went to a dance summer intensive in Santa Clara, CA. It wasn't long after I met her that I realized what a blessing it was. Her compassionate spirit, graceful dancing and fantastic personality made my weekend a wonderful one. It was a joy to dance alongside Maia each day, and then decompress together at night over dinner, a walk or listening to music.
A great big thank you to Maia for getting me involved in CouchSurfing and I hope to learn more from her in the future :)
From Marie Belmonte Campandre-Valcongrain, France Jun 19 Positive Maia and Miles are a sweet couple. They rescued us at the last-minute since we hadn't found any hosts in Seattle. They did delicious breakfasts for us and helped us found our way to Seattle. You will always be welcomed in France folks and this time I will cook for you!
From Audrey Blackburn New York, United States Jun 5 Positive Maia and Miles gave me a call, responding to a last minute post I made on the emergency couch requests for seattle group. They were so warm and lovely, promising me breakfast... I got so much more than a meal. They welcomed me into their lives; I fell hard for Perky, their dog, and for all of the delicious cooking. They're really open and o so kind people. Thank you!
From Evan Miller Fort Collins, United States Jun 4 Positive My experience with Miles and Maia was incredibly pleasant. They were very accepting and patient with my late arrival. They prepared a clean and neatly made futon to sleep and a wonderfully elaborate breakfast made with fresh herbs from their garden. Miles also lead me on a gentle and scenic stroll to the coast with their beautiful dog named Perky. Miles and Maia are both so generous and make for extraordinary ambassadors. Thank you.
From Octavian Lawrence Seattle, United States May 9 Positive miles and maia are wonderful people, they make you feel like family. cant wait to share many more dinners with them
From Zoe Burton San Francisco, United States Apr 12 Positive where do i begin - maia and miles are the kindest-hearted people i know!
they offered to take me in, cooked fantastic meals for me (simply because they love to cook), introduced me to everett, let me have a space if i needed it when they weren't even there, and are full of intelligent conversation and good local knowledge.
stay with them!!
look forward to seeing you when i am back in town.
From Zhou Zhou London, United Kingdom Mar 31 Positive My cynicism and major personality flaws didn't deter Miles and Maia from being lovely, friendly and helpful hosts.
Miles transit planning background helped me get to the Boeing factory in time for the 9am tour and more impressively plotted a route for me to walk across the US/Canadian border and into Vancouver which was so in depth that it even amazed the Canadian border protection officer when I showed her.
Maia starts making breakfast at 5:15am SHARP, which is TOO early to be doing anything in my world, but having said that, the waffles were delicious.
So they're really friendly people. That, or they're VERY VERY good actors.
From Micah Sewell Missoula, United States Feb 3 Positive Miles and Maia are so good at organizing events that the party outgrew their space and moved down the road - an awesome sign in my book. They were friendly, gracious hosts who really channeled the couchsurfing spirit into the event and made it a great experience for all. Thanks again!
From Deborah Odell Shoreline, United States Feb 2 Positive Wow!! Great!! Very good!!
From Ardea Thurston-Shaine Port Townsend, United States Jan 10 Positive Miles is as generous as anyone could be. He is committed to doing the best for everyone he meets.
From SaucissedeToulouse Paris, France Dec 13, 2008 Positive Miles was really kind to me even if we didnt meet.
He called me to offer me his couch when I was looking for one last minute in Seattle.
Then, I called him to ask for some help when i was a bit lost in his region, he was fantastically kind to me and gave me very useful tips.
Thanks.
From Sonya Buetler Luzern, Switzerland Oct 9, 2008 Positive We have meet miles in everett. He gave as a lot of tips for our trip in the backcountry of washigton. He is very informed about the region and gave us the information to hike there. Also in advanced he gave us a lot of tips to get there and so on….
And because of the fine weather we had a great flight together around the glacier peak…. Thankyou very much for all….
From Sophie and Sylvain Rodriguez Gimenez Valensole, France Sep 27, 2008 Positive It was great to spend time with him and his friends in Everett, he makes wonderful wafles, he is a quiet and ressourcefull person, we hope to see him again, maybe in Paris to see Beaubourg together
From LILUUSHKA Haiku, United States Sep 25, 2008 Positive Miles contains miles and miles and....of generosity!!!! Boy! The skill you need in his presence is the skill of receiving! If you can do that and give with the same unconditional manner, than you are in a great couchsurfin' team that rocks the rest of the world!
At first i didn't know what to think of his smile...than, i was introduced to the rainbow effect of his internal openess and ability to travel the unbeatened paths of expression and exploration.
Here is a simpler way of saying this: Miles reveils his greatness and depth without trying to, but once i started knowing him better, i experienced his enriching knowledge, openness, creative expression and love for variety in the world.)
Take the time to know him! You might leave with a sense of deep connection and with a lot of clues on where to go next and how to get there!
Perkee, his dog friend, is more than a great couchsurfing host : Love, love love....
Liluushka
From Evan Parker San Diego, United States Sep 24, 2008 Positive Miles very generously took my girlfriend and I at the last moment. His suggestions about what to do and see in Seattle made for a perfect day, and the accomodations he provided were very comfortable. His dog is great, as were the breakfasts! I enjoyed talking with him about his work and hobby (pilot!) experience.
From Matthias Vogel Dresden, Germany Aug 19, 2008 Positive It was nice to sleep in miles beautiful room, to have a shower and to talk with him other the life and the whole rest. He gave us any informations about the area around seattle and he maked us tasty waffles in the morning.
Best regards from matthias
From Shane McHapi Berkeley, United States Aug 18, 2008 Positive Miles has a broad perspective on life and is a kind soul, full of adventure. I can't recommend enough taking the opportunity to meet this good lad.
From Lacey Rose Miller Everett, United States Aug 14, 2008 Positive Miles not only shares his name with my favorite backpack, he is an all-around great guy. We got to know each other because I am in the process of moving to Everett. He has helped me out a lot with information regarding our city, including finding a written law regarding the legality of chickens. When I came to visit, he organized a little gathering at his place and served some DELICIOUS gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian foods! Yumyumyum! I'm excited to be his neighbor and know that many more delicious meals will be shared! Thanks so much, Miles, and see you soon!
From Jens Robbers Dresden, Germany Aug 10, 2008 Positive Stayed at Miles' place with another friend. Was a great time although we had only little time to chat. Especially Miles would give us lots of useful hints for the following trips. Great fellow, hope we'll meet again! :-)
From Sameer Masri Koh Tao, Thailand Aug 6, 2008 Positive From quiksand, pittfalls, 9 mile hikes, his new and improved chicken soup, great conversations, open minded, upbeat, great person, outgoing, if you go to Everett, indeed you can get all that and more !!!
Miles is a great host, introduced me to all his friends, If adrenaline is what you look for Miles is the guy to look for, or to just kick back and talk !!!
You must meet Pricky !! and Miles ofcourse, host him or meet him, this guy is full of energy and really positive !!
Hope to see you soon for another walk in the park hike !!
From Mike Gwaltney Las Vegas, United States Jul 31, 2008 Positive good guy. patient, pleasant company
From Tim Kuiper Geelong, Australia Jul 29, 2008 Positive Miles took me in last minute, it was a good first time couch surfing experience!
From Jeremy Robillard Ashland, United States Jul 17, 2008 Positive although i wasn't able to surf miles' couch or meet up with him @ the Country Fair, he went way out of his way to give me the vital information i needed to get to & from my destinations with ease & confidence. my travel plans didn't line up the way i originally thought, but having him as a contact gave me an ease of mind that i may have otherwise abandoned. it's easy to see why he is an ambassador. if i could, i would leave 'extremely positive', but i can't because we haven't met. thanks again miles!
From Davi Rios Olympia, United States Jul 16, 2008 Positive Miles took one of my best friends in the world on his airplane so that she could get down to the camping trip we all wanted to go on. Also, he let her fly the plane. Turns out we're neighbors at the Oregon Country Fair too.
From Dave Cramer Santa Cruz, United States Jun 23, 2008 Positive Miles agreed to host me based on two emails and a phone conversation, and, I guess, his gut. It worked out quite well. He hosted one other person while I was there, a woman originally from Alaska named Lita (I think). When I arrived he had just returned from a hike with another person from Couchsurfing, Pablo, an Argentine who was living in France, but in the Puget Sound area to meet with the Gates Foundation about a malaria research project. Miles whipped up a savory chicken soup for the four of us, the night I arrived.
Prior to meeting Miles I was reluctant about my kids meeting him, but after getting to know him, I wanted my kids to meet him, because he is a quality person.
From Jonathan Feldman Brooklyn, United States Jun 21, 2008 Positive I actually DID trust Miles with my life, and well, he didn't let me down! He gave me a thrill ride in his airplane and we talked transportation. He's an interesting guy and I wish we had more time to hang out.
From I like Pizza?? Yeahhh!!!! Paris, France Jun 18, 2008 Positive I contacted Miles first to know better about outdoor activities in Seattle area and he was really helpful to make my trip better. We shared some time and had ice-cream, hiked, discussed, went to the bank, the post office... (jaja), and made a little fun of Perkee. The end of our journey was a real Couchsurfing rally: He managed to be in time at home to receive and host two independent surfeurs, and prepared diner for us. Thanks a lot!!! Hope to see you soon!
From letterbug Palmer, United States Jun 17, 2008 Positive Miles is extremely interesting. He repeated directions to the beach for me until I understood and he tired of speaking XD His futon is comfy, and his town is beautiful. Although he had another surfer spending the same night as I, his studio/condo didn't feel cramped. Perky, his dog, is so cuddly! Thanks, Miles, can't wait to see ya again!
From KEVIN KIM Alexandria, United States Jun 15, 2008 Positive Miles is a fascinating person with too many talents to count. Watching him make a gas stove out of tin cans, a quarter, and some denatured alcohol was a hoot. I appreciated his account of his travels in India, as well as his take on religion. I'm also thankful for the sage advice he gave this novice re: hiking and camping.
From Jeremy Alonzi Vienne, France Jun 10, 2008 Positive My first experience and a big Thx to Miles for everything, like the tour of the Boeing factory and the flight in his airplane. Just AWESOME !! thx you so much for this memorable day !
From Valentin Haller Arlesheim, Switzerland Jun 6, 2008 Positive Miles was a really good host! =)
When we arrived, he surprised us with a soup and we had a good discussion!
He showed us some pictures of his Alaska-trip! Awesome!
Thanks Miles!
From Sam B-Good Toronto, Canada May 31, 2008 Positive Miles and Perky are great hosts! Good soup and a good conversation made me want to act on all my plans immediately. Plus the trade of podcasts gave me good things to listen to on the rest of my ride.
From Christopher Armstrong Ucluelet, Canada May 29, 2008 Positive Miles was an excellent host. His apartment was very inviting, and his dog perky was most wonderful. Miles made one of the most mad spice, tea, ginger, drink concoction I have ever had the pleasure of drinking, all in hopes of curing a cold that I had. Absolutely great. Miles will give you a great place to stay and a good conversation, unless contra dance is on the horizon, then suit up and dance the night away!
From JC Allenby Portland, United States May 27, 2008 Positive Miles is an incredibly positive guy, with a really cute, lovely dog too! He's very helpful and friendly, good time spent with him, in an airplane, with him flying! Quite an amazing experience. I look forward to seeing him again!!!
From jazzconfusion Los Angeles, United States Mar 17, 2008 Positive Miles and his sweet dog Perkee were great guests! He even unclogged a drain for us! He has great stories to tell and is very pleasant to be around.
