About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To live sustainably, to learn extensively, to love and laugh and do it again tomorrow!!!
ABOUT ME
We have been involved with hosting travellers for a long time, myself for over 4 years. Several of us here at Orwells were part of The Forest, a couchsurfing mecca in St Lucia, Brisbane, and have now found a new house suitable for further fun and mayhem. Our lovely house in Taringa is also an experiment, slowly being transformed by us into an urban permaculture property. Here, not far from the city, we grow most of our own vegetables, all our own herbs and get 6 or more fresh eggs every morning from our ducks, chickens and bantams. The house is a mix of students and young professionals, all very open to new experiences and meeting people. Come hang out, eat breakfast in the garden with the ducks and spend some time in our great city.
PHILOSOPHY
Human beings are the only animal we know that has evolved complete self awareness and an intelligence to design and build and destroy in such an amazing fashion. Our responsibility is then to understand ourselves, our planet and our impact on on both, before we all burn, choke or freeze, or blow ourselves up.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We host extensively and throughout the year, our doors are always open unless we are already full!!
Even so feel free to come and hang out. We are all open minded young people and our house is a great learning environment for permaculture and ecology, as well as fire spinning, devil sticks and various circusy mayhem. We also have several drums, a full drumkit and a resident isreali master of riddims, the infamous Guy Drory (youtube baby!) to blow your ears apart!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Our various experiences with couchsurfing have been absolutely amazing. Great way to tap into and experience the depth and variation of human culture. As this page is quite young you may want to check out The Forest group on CS. As far as stories go, 7 people paying rent, 28 couchsurfers, about 30 or so local friends + Easter Sunday 2006 = 2 days of mayhem with some 40 odd people sleeping wherever they can find room between backpacks and whenever they find time between drinks and food. Awesome!
