Don't send a regular message to people who are not currently hosting asking them to host you. In the last month I've received more than 10 requests. I'm not able to host right now, sorrryyyy. You should see a button that says "Send CouchRequest to ..." if someone is able to host. Use that button to send hosting requests.

I grew up in a small town in Virginia, and did not board my first passenger jet until my senior year of university. Once I finally did, the travel bug bit me, and I was off. I lived and worked in Chicago for 2 years, and now I'm traveling a bit and doing tech for CouchSurfing.
I'm a member of the CouchSurfing tech team. I do a small bit of web development, but am more focused on keeping the servers alive and healthy.
CouchSurfing Experience
I hosted in Chicago for the couple of years that I lived there. I've surfed a bit in the US, but mostly while traveling around South East Asia.
Interests
Classical guitar, contra dancing, potlucks, asparagus, David Attenborough, chess, bike polo, geek outs, making functional things and cardamom. These are definitely all of my interests.
Philosophy
- Silliness is important!
- Never cease to learn.
- Do it yourself, if you can (why not!?).
- No expectations.
- Do over not do.
- Boggle your mind, all the time.

I love to teach. I can teach a bit of guitar, I love to rant about the mind boggling weirdness of modern physics, and I enjoy explaining computers in non-computer jargon.
I have a secret fancy coffee recipe. I will tell you the secret.
This summary is not a replacement for reading references; it's a quick summary to help you get started. At a glance, you can see how many references a member has, and how many of them are positive, neutral, and negative.
In the second line, you'll see how many references came from people who hosted this member, surfed with them, and traveled with them. These numbers won't always add up to the total: some references are not categorized, and some may be categorized as more than one thing.
When viewing this summary, don't jump to conclusions! Things that are negative for one person may be positive for another, and vice versa. It's important to read references carefully and evaluate what that information means to you.

Andrew met up with me for a very last minute request in NYC. It was a great meet-up: food, weather, and company. He has great stories from his international experiences. You are definitely in luck if you get a chance to hang out with him!

Andrew Otto is the coolest! Not sure if I've ever met someone who simply enjoys living life more than Andrew. He always has a grin on his face and a kind/funny comment about the topic of conversation. Plus he taught me how to play Mafia, which is quite possibly the best game on earth and is now a staple at each of my family gatherings. Don't hesitate to meet Andrew, he's the godfather of CS (at least in my eyes).

How did this take so long?! Otto can be depended upon for the most ridiculous, hilarious, and unusual experiments, spontaneously or contrived. He sings in hallways and tunnels, plays a mean ukelele, and is one of my favorite-est people in the world. My life is more fun with him in it. Yay for Meester Otto!
Andrew Otto plays eukalaly, and that should say it all. But in case it doesn't I'll spell it out: Andrew is cool in a kind-hearted, freindly, caring, trustworthy sort of way. He's the sort of guy who you want to have along on a broken bike trailer luggage rescue mission. He'll even photo-documenet the experience, and make it a fun one.
Andrew you're wonderful, friendly and shiny person!! we had a big fun and inspirational time with you. We will meet again somewhere in this wonderful world :)
I have met Andrew on several occasions.. Recently I met him in Istanbul, where unfortunately we only had time for a short chat and some çay :) I hope to meet you soon again Andrew. Take care
