Quedamos de ir al cumpleaños de otro CS pero el no llego, por lo que pase la noche con Pampa y dos chicas CS mas; muy agradable hablar con el ya que sabe bastante de todo y me conto todas sus experiencias en CS por lo que se volvio una guia para mi. Pompa is one of the coolest guy's to be around. A great friend to have, he insisted that i stay at his moms house when i was staying in Guatemala City. He will go out of his way to help you if you need it. If you are going to Antigua you should at least take the time to say hi and introduce yourself. Promise you won't be disappointed.

Charming, witty, helpful and extremely friendly, Pampa is how a dictionary would define the word 'gentleman'.

I already met him before coming to Antigua and when I got there I could convince myself of his great hosting abilities :) He's the man in Antigua to get tips of Guatemala, sit in the park an relax after a long day in the bus/work or dance to reggae musica! LIterally turned over his bedroom to me. Family welcomed me with open arms. He even got a company car to take me to his house while he was working. Alvaro is a true CSing spirit!

I met Alvaro when I crashed his couch for the night when I got into Guatemala. He was beyond helpful! He is a super nice guy and you are lucky if you get to know him. Pampa came to pick up my sister and I at the TicaBus and took us to a dinner at another CS' house. It was great! He is very hospitable and a great source of information about Guatemala!

i was doing some errands in guatemala city, a huge place that i've never been to before and this guy oriented me, he was a great help, he even paid the bus cos i had no national currency.

I can't say enough good things about Pampa. He's fun, friendly and generous with both his time and his knowledge of Guatemala. Pampa,what can I say? He was an amazing host(a 100 positive references can't be wrong)! I arrived in Guate and he came to pick me up from the airport, took me out for a couple of Gallos and next morning put me in the right bus to Antigua after helping me to plan my trip, and hosted me on my way out of Guatemala too. Oh yeah. Pampa was definitely the man behind the Wondrous Magical Mystery Tour of Guatemala. Oh yeah. He's smart, knowledgeable, is a funny drunk who pulls stunts with hot wax and toothpicks, and you're guaranteed laughs and an excellent time with him. Oh yeah! Pampa is a great ambassador to Guatemala. He gave us a lot of helpful information, and introduced us to a lot of new friends. Our first couchsurfing experience, and we are hooked!

I stayed three nights at Pampas' house and had a great time. He showed me the city that must people bypass but really miss out on. we had a couple great nights out, one night spent at a bar and the other at the CS potloch (more drinking then eating though).

Pampa helped me out a lot, even before I had arrived at his home in Guatemala, and once there su casa es tu casa! Extremely helpful and nice to be around as is his family. We didn´t see a lot of each other as he had to work a lot but evenings were spent with other couchsurfers drinking beer in a chilled out bar, so no complaints there!

Pampa replied to my post in the CS Guatemala group when I was asking for organizing a meeting.
The meeting did happen - even that we were only 5 people, three locals, my friend morhart and me.
It was a nice evening with much beer and great talks, especially about the different inner politics and (dis-)advantages of the different hospex networks.
Alvaro also hosted us for one night and went the next day with us to down town Guatemala City to show us a little bit around.
He is a great host host and a blueprint of an ambassador for hospex networks.

Pampa is great. He went out of his way to make sure I had a place to sleep upon my arrival to the weekly couchsurfing meeting in Antigua, and he helped me figure out where I was and how to get where I needed to go in Guatemala City. His whole family made me feel at home. I recommend meeting him wherever in the world you and he happen to be.

What can I say? Pampa is awesome. A great host, friend and tour guide, I picked his brain for travel tips in Guatemala, he explained the "Vos" form in Spanish, he showed me a couple cool bars in the city, and we became close buds in the two days I stayed at his place. If you like homecooked meals, a comfortable bed and good company, stay at the Pampa Inn.

Soooo the story with this guy is: 5 years ago I was amazed of Guatemala (still am) :) so I found his profile there in HC and added him to my msn. he was the only person who I didnt know and added to my msn. after some years he came to europe. he was even in latvia but we never met. after some time I went to guatmala. was in guatemala city but we didnt meet...... but then the time came and we met randomly in antigua. :) was great meeting him after all this missing out part :)

Alvaro is Guatemala. I had the best experience in Guatemala because of him. He introduced me to local food, local beer, and local chicken busses. Si amigo, hasta proximo bebidas(cervezas y tequilas).

Although I only had one night to spend in Guatemala City, Alvaro proved to be a dedicated CouchSurfing Host when he braved the flooded streets of Guatemala City during a massive downpour to come and get me in another part of town.

His mother almost made us a wonderful dinner and we enjoyed great conversation along with his other Australian CouchSurfer, over a glass of Belizian Rum.

I arrived a day early yet he still let me stay there. Didnt get such a chance to hang out with him as he was busy with work but he seems like a nice guy and has a lot of advice to give about Guatemala.

alvaro is wicked awesome super cool fantastic! he helped me and my volunteer group out during out time in guatemala city, meeting up with us at the airport and setting up a hostel for us, and helped with translating for us at some of our contacts as well. we were able to meet up in antigua too which was great! definitely hope he comes on out to canada to visit soon - such a great guy! thanks for all the help pampa!! we really really appreciate it, and all the girls say hi :)

I was directed to Alvaro’s couch via another cs’r who was unable to host me. Alvaro is conveniently located to the airport and upon arrival to his home and closing the gate to enter his home from the busy street, I was enveloped in quiet and tranquility. After 12 + hours of travel and only one day to rest up before a 10-day teaching assignment, this was just the perfect home for me. With only 1 day to see a 2 museums and 1 public garden, Alvaro even headed out early in the morning with me, just to be able to get me safely to the sites! He was attentive, caring, cautioning and kind. I recommend Alvaro highly.

Pampa was everything for us in Guate City. I am really lucky to have stayed at Pampa's place, because he is a perfect host and a person who is a good company in any place. Being so legend person in Guatemala CS community he remains sincere and unaffected, a person with open heart... And I admire the people of Guatemala since they are so friendly and helpful as Alvaro is. He intoduced me to some CS-members of the city, took us to the market and helped a lot with the information... And,of course, discussing gallo, pollo campero and other Guatemalan style of life was exciting ))

Alvaro is fantastic! He replied to our request with haste, and even picked us up from the airport. Later, we discovered our mutual love of tuna and baguette. I hope to see him again soon, so that I can write his name with wine on the pavement.

Alvaro was wonderful for a first couch surfing experience! He met us at the airport and helped us out with necessary logistics (finding an ATM and buying cigarettes!). Alvaro is very welcoming and friendly. I couldn't have asked for a better host during our one night in Guatemala City.

We meet through CS friends. We got along together very well, partied all night...making the best BBQ in Guatemala!!!

we were lost when we arrived to the airport in guatemala city but when pampa picked us up there, everything was easy again. without a guide book, only with the traveltips he gave us, we started our trip through this beautiful country and finally spent much more time there then we had planned ;)

 

Pampa is sweet, open, warm... We had a great time hanging out in Zona Viva and in Antigua at the CS Meet. A party animal in his own right, with his heart on his sleeve. Too bad I got swallowed in professional obligations at the end of my stay.

I ¨hate¨ him haha! No not really but that was probably the most used phrase of the evening in the midst of packed cars, vodka, alcohol runs to San Lucas & back, more vodka and then waking up at his house then meandering guatemala city lazily soaking in the sun with more beers in the evening with tickiling kids. All in all good times!

Wow, what an amazing person, as so many people already know. I feel really lucky to have met him and feel like I've known him for a long time, great talks and times in Antigua and Guate, I am sure we will meet again. A true traveller with a heart of gold. Thank you so much for everything Pampa!

 

Alvaro hosted me for two days in Guate, and he taught me a little about the history and Culture of Guatemala, how to make mojitos, and he introduced me to some other CS people in his city. He is a generous host, and he loves to show foreigners around in his beautiful country. Gracias Alvaro, y suerte en Inglaterra!

Alvaro hosted me almost spur of the moment, graciously sharing his house, picking me up from a gas station & being overall extremely helpful & kind. We also hitch-hiked together to some great places in Guatemala. He was a great host & I imagine would make a great guest too. Sorry this is late, Alvaro... good luck on your next endeavor whether in England or wherever u decide. Oh yea, & I liked ur friends too, thx for giving me a nice taste of Guatemala, a truly amazing country.

I met him at a dinner of couch surfing and he is awesome!!! he is an outgoing guy that loves to party!!! he is very friendly and buenisima onda!!!

Pampa and I shared a guest room in Vienna one time in June 2006 and we walked around the city together. It was a great time with a great guy.

Knowing that I was traveling in Guatemala, Alvaro went out of his way to contact me, inviting me to see the kite festival with him. We ended up staying at his house in Guatemala City that night. He treated me and my brother with kindness and rare grace. No joke - he was a better host than some family members have been. Couldn´t have asked for a better introduction/first surf!

Pampa and his mother recently hosted me at their family home in Guatemala City. They were supportive as I was without money at the time. All the best Pampa but please remember not to work too hard.

Hey, Pampa and his friends created the best first couchsurfing-experience for me I could imagine. (So thanks a lot again!) I met Pampa and his guys in Estudio 35 ( great place by the way, if you stay in Antigua check it out for a great salat or a huge pizza), started this conversation with them and then we ended up in a bar of a his alaskian friend, or no, we ended up in the house of an other friend of them. Anyway it was a great night, thanks a lot!!

 

Alvaro feels like my homie even though he lives on the other side of the world (Guatemala), lol! Enough to recommend! We had beers yesterday and now I'm planning on challanging him with a bottle of VODKA!

I have known Pampa for over a year now ... so feel suitably qualified to leave the man a reference. (though fortunately we don't see each other every day - as I don't think my liver would survive!). Pampa hosted my brother and I after we missed our original host in Guatemala City (we didn't check our email on time, duh!). He was kind enough to let us stay at his house and, I know it was really hard for him, go with us to Cuatro Grados Norte, for a couple of gallos and litros (see the evidence among my pics).

Are you visiting Guatemala? Please do not forget to ask Pampa for the nice places in Guatemala or how to move around. He surprised us showing 4° Norte… always something new to visit in Guatemala! We met two or three times with Pampa during one of our trips to Guatemala but now days we still keep in touch. My overall experience was good, we went out and partied my last night in Guatemala and he walked me to the airport in the morning. Real nice guy!

El Pampa!!! Whassup!?! The man, the myth... This cuate will never let you down. He is always ready, willing and able to help out in field research procedures at any bar or tavern. Full of great quotes and ideas, Pampa is the best work or drinking buddy you will find in Sacatepequez. Alvaro was really kind to me in Antigua, I wish I had more time to hang out with him since he was working so much, but I am thankful for his help!!

Alvaro helped us really a lot even before we arrived to Guatemala. He was very flexible when we decided to change our arrival date like a thousend times. ;-) Don't hesitate to meet him when going to Guatemala or to have him as a guest. Definitely trustworthy!

Met in Guatemala City. Alvaro picked Danielle and I up in Guatemala City and drove us to his friend Christian's house. I talked with him for several hours during that evening. He is very nice, intelligent, and helpful.

Pampa is a great host, I had a great time with him: We visted a money museum and a few other things, but mainly we went drinking. Alot of drinking. So if you like drinking and enjoying meeting other cool cser`s. Pampa is your man!

Pampa is a very helpful and easy-going guy. He saved us by picking us up at the bus terminal in Guatemala City when we arrived late in the evening and presented us to his friend Christian where we could sleep. We spent the evening together and had a lot of fun.

alvaro would cook for me some guatemalan food ???? ok, will check when i can get the next flight ;-) meeting alvaro was very funny. we went out with darko and had nice chats. he is really a very nice guy and i hope to meet him again somewhere. in guatemala for sure. its on the top at my places to visit.

3 days in guat. city! spent to days in guat. city with "pampa" and his friends! he organized me a accomodation at his friends house and we've been in some places in the capital. Very very friendly and helpfulness, thanks a lot!!

Guatamalan Ambassador. What can I say... The perfect Ambassador for Guatemala City. He took me to some great bars and introduced me to a number of other great locals. I’d been warned by other travelers to avoid Guatemala City, so I am so grateful that Alvaro persuaded me to visit the city, hosted me and introduced me to other members.

He’s a really nice chap and his family is great too.
