About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

Open-minded, out-going and always up for a party or meeting new people!

I always have an urge to travel, explore and challenge myself.

Recently, I returned from my second trip to Iran, first to Iraq and a mindblowingly special experience travelling through North Korea - outside Pyongyang. In 2012/13 I have been doing most my travels as three months research trips around East Africa.

When I'm not roaming the world with a rucksack, I try to make a few bucks for the next trip, giving lectures and working part time as a teacher on Army courses (I used to be a commissioned army officer).

PHILOSOPHY

My personal goal in life is to make sure that the world is a little bit better when I leave it, than it was when I came. - Here, take a candy bar to help me succeed in life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Host and travel... Host and travel ;)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In 2006-2007 traveled in Eastern Europe and Spain on my own, living with people and families I have met on my way. After returning home, I heard of Courchsurfing, and decided to contribute a bit myself. So, when ever possible I hosted people in my apartment in Helsingør.

In early 2009 I spent 15 days couchsurfing through most of Iran, and it was the best travel-experience of my life! The hospitality and kindness I found there I think you cannot match anywhere else! Mindbaffling!

Therefore I did a new trip through Iran in December 2009 and while couchsurfing was not really possible in North Korea - I did succeed in couchsurfing across Iraq (Kurdish Region) in 2012 and the break-away territory of Transnistria in 2011, and found CS to be an amazing help in getting to know areas incredibly well in the short time available when you're backpacking.

Most recent surfing has been in Rwanda and Uganda in 2013, with a couple of none CS research stints into DR Congo.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela taught me more about hospitality, trust, travelling and cultural respect than anything before, and put me through the first steps to become the traveller and person that I am today. Since then I have travelled more than 65 days every year, and visited more than 32 countries - most more than once.

Apart from that it would be:

Parachuting - Let's you know why the birds sing.

Being shot at by the police during a demonstration in Tehran - Let's you know if you really believe in what you're doing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would like to learn:
More farsi
More swahili
Foreign cooking

I can teach:
Danish and English
Navigation and pathfinding
How to make balloon animals (My favorite is a bear on a unicycle)

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Moldova, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, North Korea, Norway, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Rwanda, Serbia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom
