I'm an outgoing kiwi chick who loves life and believes that couches are for sleeping on, not sitting on all day watching mindless crap on TV!
How I Participate in CS
I've hosted a few people through my roomate, and have surfed in San Francisco. Camped with the Couch Surfers theme camp at Burning Man this year, out of this world. So many awesome couch surfers out there!
CouchSurfing Experience
Pretty new to the site, though have done it informally for years. Have hosted in Saskatoon, Canada and have surfed in San Francisco.
Interests
I love meeting new people, gaining new viewpoints, laughing until my guts hurt, taking photographs, making compost, growing vegetables, dancing like noones watching, reading, browsing alternative bookstores, writing and performing slam poetry, writing music, playing guitar, playing drums, playing the fool, chatting until the wee hours and spending hours people watching in coffee shops
Philosophy
My philosophy...
When life is good....it's Fun.
When it's bad...its FunNY.
That way I can never go wrong!
Seriously, I try to experience this life and appreciate everything for what it is, whether that be having the time of my life, or learning from an experience. I live by the laws of karma and I respect everyone for who they are, what they believe and the way they live their life.
Music, Movies, Books
Muriels Wedding, Human Traffic, Strictly Ballroom, Black Sheep, love Bryce Courteny books and Edward Rutherford, anything that's a bit different. I have very little tolerance for most of the crap that's on TV and prefer personal interaction to the idiot box anyday.
Music: I love almost anything, aside from rap and heavy metal. Most independant music, electro, drum and bass, jazz, house. Particularly love Kiwi music! Salmonella Dub, Shapeshifter, Fat Freddy's Drop, Black Seeds, Pearl Jam, Caribou, Queen, Tegan and Sara, Michael Franti, The Corrs, Pink Floyd, Weezer
Types of People I enjoy
People who are open minded, respectful, people who know how to party and know how to do so in a responsible fashion, people who strive to learn from their brothers and sisters all over the world.
People I don't generally like... competitive, loud, overly opinionated people, people who take pleasure in running other people down.
Teach, Learn, Share
Music and poetry, I love to share both. I can teach you a few Maori songs, how to make a duct tape wallet and just what to do when you drop your keys in a river of lava.
One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done
I feel incredibly privilaged to have spent three weeks on the continent of Antartica, 10 days of which were spent camping on the ice shelf. Santa even visited on Christmas Day from the other side of the globe. What an out of this world experience!
Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org Project
What a fantastic concept! Love the idea of people helping people and not expecting anything in return, aside from kindness, respect, helping clean up and the unspoken agreement that you'll do the same for others one day.
This summary is not a replacement for reading references; it's a quick summary to help you get started. At a glance, you can see how many references a member has, and how many of them are positive, neutral, and negative.
In the second line, you'll see how many references came from people who hosted this member, surfed with them, and traveled with them. These numbers won't always add up to the total: some references are not categorized, and some may be categorized as more than one thing.
When viewing this summary, don't jump to conclusions! Things that are negative for one person may be positive for another, and vice versa. It's important to read references carefully and evaluate what that information means to you.
KiwiBurger (Alina) is a great person and a hugely talented artist! I loved hearing her poetry at Burning Man; she recites with such true expression! Alina has a heart of gold - she helped me out with getting a ride to the Burn and out of a sticky situation before we'd even had the chance to meet. I sincerely hope our paths cross again!
Ali and I had some good times at CouchBurnerCamp at Burning Man 2010, and I hope she makes it out again next year! I was stoked on the bike she gave me, and I have since found the key I lost! Hit me up if you ever need a place to stay in Reno!

Positive
I only met Alina for a short time before she went off to the concert, but found her to be quite an interesting person, and I would have liked to have spent more time with her. My family really enjoyed meeting her, and thought she was lovely.
What's not to like about this gal? I had a great time at BRC, and was super glad she made it to her virgin burn. She's lots of fun... but now every time I have a burger I wonder what it would taste like with beets and an egg. :?
