Personal Description

I am a complicated person and I am therefore complicated to summarise. Two years ago someone (adpads on hc) described me in these terms: «A road warrior in flip-flops, he will cross the world on no notice, and comes from a long and august lineage of others of like mind.»

I have partly uninflated my ego since that time and I do not think that description corresponds to much now. I feel I am more of a "man of the way" than a "man of the road" ;-)

Do not even expect me to be interesting, especially if I get back home from a long day of work. Plus, good surprises most often come along with low expectations ;-p

PS: Just to remove all possible ambiguity (CS is rife with that), please note that although I may often be away from my better half, in SEA what is more, I am a happy fiancé and a single-minded (ໃຈດຽວ) in my romantic life.

How I Participate in CS

Being an understanding guest and a generous host.

CouchSurfing Experience

Quite a number of gatherings and some occasional spurts of activity. I mostly hosted back in France with my brother.

Interests

Loving my gal, travelling, culture(s), thinking, people-watching, reading, walking, talking, enjoying and protecting nature, improving society, veg*ism, simply living (and living simply) and many, many more things...

Philosophy

I didn't want to leave this section blank for one hour more but I've yet to have enough inspiration to complete it. I'm planning to devise a Proustian questionnaire one day... Check for updates once in a while ;-)

Music, Movies, Books

I am quite selective in my choices but read, listen to and watch all types of things. I am a relatively big reader (web pages included) and pride myself in trying a bit of everything once in a while. My favourite book would be Herman Hesse's "Siddharta"...

Types of People I enjoy

Humble adventurers, spiritual seekers, fanatic entrepreneurs, empathic people, intellectual vegetarians, smiling idiots (for a while), smart philosophers, and iconoclasts.

Teach, Learn, Share

Great, I'm in! Remember what the Mahatma used to say: "Enjoy life as if you were to live only one day, but learn as if you were to live for ever." I'm a polymath in the making so we're sure to find some common ground on something (just please don't try to make me like watching sports on TV!).

One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done

In turn, I tried putting hackneyed truths ("Life is amazing", "Love beats all") and a boastful list of NDEs. You will have your fair share of campfire stories if you want to hear any. I do not feel the need to put any more details...

Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org Project

Maybe this is the appropriate place for a little quotation of Mark Twain: "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness. Broad, wholesome, charitable views cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth."

Locations Traveled

TRAVELED: Austria, Brunei, Cambodia, Central African Republic, China, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Malaysia, Maldives, Monaco, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Venezuela, Yemen
LIVED: Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, France, India, Singapore, United Kingdom, Vietnam

Renaud and his gf, Helene, are very nice people (and beautiful couple ^^). He has had some really interesting stories and experience of traveling. We have met for a few times and definitely will meet for many times in the future as long as they are still in Vietnam ^^

Renaud, Renaud, really nice to know and talk to you. ^^...Take care and have fun (remember lemon, warm water and sugar, hihi, it really can help you with your sickness ^^)

I couched at Renaud's and Helen's place when I was in Saigon. And that was probably one of the best experience in my entire stay in Saigon. Renaud is always funny and witty, and we had such a good time sharing our travel experiences. He also provided me with a very different insight to Vietnam, one that i would not have seen if I went on a package tour!

One of the most traveled young men I've ever met, Renaud is a pleasure to talk to. He is very engaging and knowledgeable about so many regions of the world that I took advantage and picked his brain about West Africa, Asian languages and Vietnam. Another dinner meeting never worked out but I hope to meet up with him again, hopefully on another continent!

Met Renaud through Natasha and talked briefly over some drinks. Then caught up with him on my last night in HCMC for dinner and a few more drinks with some other surfers. When you talk to this guy you can tell he is really listening. Good guy, enjoyed his company.

Renaud is one of the sincerest and well travelled people I have ever met! He has endless stories to tell about his life abroad, and after discussing the first few countries he's lived in, I literally lost track due to the sheer number of places! I'm looking forward to catching up with him and his girlfriend over the next few months during their internships here in Saigon.

He's a true gentleman, of true French aristocratic stock (but very modest with it!) and a charming companion. I hope to see you again somewhere sometime soon in this small world.

And he rocks :) You can talk about anything with him, he's really interesting both about SG politics and the fancies of his weird dreams ^^ Open-minded and easy-going, got to know him better.

You are an old soul in a young man's body... that is a fact. You guys are SO coming and staying with me when I'm an old crone!!:) So sorry that I cannot host you and Maryanne properly. This man is knowledgeable without being a know-it-all and makes you want to listen to his stories for hours and hours... He manhandled me- conspiring with the Little Maid Maryanne to rob me out of paying for our dinner.

ah my favourite frenchboy. just realised i havent left you any comments either(!) I've totally enjoyed hanging out with Renaud, I don't even have to mention how cool/well-traveled/knowledgeable he is from all the other refs here. I appreciate him most for the deeper than small-talk chats, sharing our insights on anything and everything from nuns and prostitutes to kant and universal maxims. Having him around has definitely enriched my life and he's one fellow whom i can talk to for hours without realising how late it is - the missing trains part is funny! a very rare friend to come by indeed, certainly one i'd love to keep close contact with. enjoy southeast asia =)

Renaud is a cool guy. And he knows I'm a nice kid, no? ;p Was really awesome talking to him, I mean, how often do you get to meet a guy who sailed the seven seas to sunny Singapore and with so many life-threatening experiences? Well, I gave hints. Aint suppose to say more, otherwise he's gonna leave me a negative remark for spilling the beans. But yeah, if you are travelling with him, ask him why he has to carry a super glue with him :x oh oh...and one more thing, you definitely freaked me out with your contortions. Promise me you won't do it again ok? xxx
