Bastien Genefort

 

It was super-awesome of Bastien to organize the NYC Couch Crash bicycle tour! I had a very good time and discovered parts of NYC I never knew about.
Even more fun was observing Bastien chug maybe 15 shots of vodka while locked in an ice room dressed as a Russian (or was it Bulgarian?) soldier.
The most impressive thing is that he was not only standing after this superhuman feat, but he continued to party for the rest of the night.

Ohhh, Bastien. A kind and determined soul, he is. Meeting him at the pool, along with the other CSers, has been a highlight of my trip! Even though he refused to speak German with me (apparently it's not as good as Polish, haha) he did take the time to help take the American-ness out of my pronunciation of the word "ich." I hope our paths cross again!

Bastien! Bastien! Bastien! That is all I heard during my first visit to NYC! Apparently, the whole town either knew him or knew about him, and everyone seemed to love him! When I finally chatted with this phenomenon, I discovered that he was indeed an embodiment of everything CS represents. He is so friendly, attentive, responsible and well-mannered that I have grown to not only appreciate, but also deeply admire and greatly respect him.

I was a bit afraid at the beginning to meet him as we are 2 social butterflys but Bastien offered me a wonderful time for my first days in NYC and i would never regret it and forget it ! He was simply fantastic and introduced me to New York the best way. He kindly offered me to stay last minute and to stay again, has always been kind to me when i needed. He is definitely a super guy, very genuine, he is a great tour guide and a fantastic beer pal. But he can be also serious sometimes, you just have to deserve it !
To add a last thing, he IS what every ambassador should be. He just wanna help genuinely, doesnt care about the honours that some are looking for in that status, he just want to help and meet people the most genuinely he can. If someday i felt to be one, that would probably be thanks to him.
After leaving NYC, i realize even more how awesome he has been... A new friend

I hosted Bastien's cat Nata (!) for a couple months and when he came to retrieve her we had a chance to pick each other's brains over some falafel. I enjoyed hearing about bar work, the difference between rural and urban France, and ex-pat life in New York City. With his positive attitude, it's not surprising that this guy makes even the most active Couchsurfer look like a slacker in comparison! Like the old cowboy song says, happy trails to you until we meet again...

I only met this guy in some alternative bar in Amsterdam and I started chatting to him through Aurora, who I'd met at the same bar.
Bastien gave me a great little talk on couchsurfing, his experience and seemed like an intelligent, worldworthy and friendly person.

However - I was incredibly drunk=P So I'm not sure that I portrayed myself in the same positive light. However, great meeting - I would leave my couch open for Bastien if he found himself in England.

 

Bastien and his cat, my first guest that took his pet with him the cat has seen many country's.
Bastien tried herring in all different kinds, the sour the salty the baked he is generous and love to share stories. We had a good time in Amsterdam and next time he is welcome again with his hairy friend.

He's the wild frenchie of the NYC CS crowd, always with something crazy up his sleeve be it in the park, the street or "his" bar...he loves CS and it's 100% apparent

Bastien was dressed up as a Christmas tree when he greeted me at Revival almost a year ago. He has almost single-handedly transformed NY CS into what it is today. And he does it all on about 10 hours of sleep per week!

 

Bastien is a true Ambassador. He was fun to hang with and truly wanted to be of service to all who participated in couchcrash 08.

Bastien is just great!!! he decided to host me even if I requested to surf his coach with few time in advanced. Bastien was a true ambassador in every sense of the word. First he provided a personal escort from Harlem to the East Village via the subway, least I not end up in New Jersey :-)The gift of the NFT Guide was an invaluable tool! Shopping for edibles (which unfortunately I didn't have the chance to wear)...lunch in Union Square, drinks at the Union Bar, the flexibility of staying an extra night in the village and most importantly the use of his computer so I could meet a deadline...WOW. Thank you so much Bastien your hospitality is very much appreciated.

 

Wait, this isn't a dating site? Shit :) Anyway, Bastien hardly needs a reference here.. he's the CS king of NY and a real traveler. The office wont be the same without this guy.

He helped me get to the Revial Bar, and helped me and my friends get in.

 

There are no words to express what a great person Bastien is. He personifies what CouchSurfing is all about. During CouchCrash he kept offering me his couch in case I didn't want to get the train back to Long Island and he always makes sure that everyone is having a good time.

Bastien was the most gracious of hosts! Thanks for all you did for this event and us we had a blast - up until we hit Florida- We flew right into a tropical storm whee! NYC and Kenny's was fun, thanks for inviting us!

I met Bastien briefly at the NYC CouchCrash Fest Living-Room and enjoyed his company for a few hours.

 

Bastien was one of the guys who organized the super amazing NYC Couch Crash Festival 08. He's genuinely sincere and passionate about the CouchSurfing project and that enthusiasm is contagious! I had the opportunity to spend some time with him during the week and am glad I did! Enchanté and see you again!

 

Ma petite grenouille française! After exchanging a few e-mails on-site about his cat and the amazing NYC CouchCrash festival, it was a delight to be able to host Bastien and his friend Tom during Oktoberfest! They were prefect guests, listening patiently to my crazy ideas and concerns about the state of the world ... over a lovely vegan salad that Bastien made for us. I hope to cross paths again someday, somewhere! And I'm still waiting for my turn with Nata ;)

 

Bastien is such a good hearted guy. He's got a great sense of humor always knows how to bring people together. If couch surfing were a person, it would be Bastien. He's definitely one of the greatest CSers that I've met.

Bastien is like a balloon floating in the air. welcomes anyone with his warm heart, float like nothing is holding him back. NY CS community would be like a kid without a crown on his birthday. I really appreciate what he is and does to others in this whole planet.

Bastien is one of the easiest going guy on earth. I've heard his name over years but never get chance to hang out. We had a great conversation together this past Thursday night and found out he is going to rock NYC this summer without me. Bastien has his way to make people feel comfortable and welcoming. If your idea of a friend is someone who's open-hearted, smart, genuine, kind, outgoing, passionate and fun, then there's definitely no doubt: you should meet this man! Good times at the Buffalo Invasion! Bastien was a pleasure to host. Can't wait to where we will meet up again!

 

Bastien is the epitome of the couchsurfing spirit. He's one of those people with volunteering genes whom I admire yet I usually don't have the guts to be one. He picked me up in a rainy day took me to a cozy Italian restaurant where we had a "lovely dinner" and talked about everything. And he has a great couch with a grrrreat view.

 

Bastien was great fun during our parties and fun-making during the invasion. His warm open attitude and personality instantly put you at east. You know you've met a friend as soon as you shake his hand.

Despite the fact that Bastien lives in New York as I do, I has to travel all the way to London to hear about Bastien for the first time (I obviously was not very present in the Couchsurfing scene here in NY). My host Davina told me I had to meet him, so the first Thursday I was back, I went to Revival and sought out Bastien. It was like meeting my hero. I genuflected and stuttered and all that. The next time I saw him he didn't remember my name :)
But that's because he meets so many people! Everyone wants and should want to meet Bastien. Bastien is chill, happy, and intent on having a great time. The King of Couchsurfing and a true pleasure to be around.
Plus he is super generous, open-minded, and laid-back.

 

I joined CS recently and for two nights in a row I've had a great time, met a lot of surfers and hosted my first 2 surfers right away. Bastien is a great guy who genuinely cares about people and bringing them together. These are the type of people that make this city a better place.

UPDATE 9 Months later:
Bastien is the king of couch surfing and a great guy. He is motivated and kind. Always thinking big and outside the box. He is the champion and torch bearer of the NYC CS community. He has become a good friend and co-conspirator for devilish nights and creative ways to connect the lovely people from across waters to the lovely people on this drowning island, we call New York. We are planning a huge CS Festival in Aug and has shown trust by letting me help wrangle in the kiddies every Thurs at Revival. It's unfathomable to think that he will someday leave us. We party hard and work hard together. It's going to be a good summer.

I stayed with Bastien for three nights. It was great. He is hospitable, generous, and genuinely interested in other people and cultures. Thank you Bastien.

 

We had a great time hanging around the several CS meetings that happened in town during our stay in NYC. It's a pity he wasn't much in the apartment. Probably due to he being a party animal like few I've seen in my life :)

Bastien has an open heart and open mind. He was one of the first CSers I ever met, and he's kept it fun and interesting since. I already miss him, now that I'm in Oz, and will be sad to be in NY without him once he leaves :( Hopefully I'll get a visit while I'm here in Australia :)

What a fantastic person! I met him in NYC, but not really officially. It was only when he came to Richmond, did we really spend much time together.

From sleeping in a bus station, knitting, juggling, watching elephants march through manhattan, wandering around or talking for hours, all moments spent with Bastien I thoroughly enjoy. He is an amazing, warm, open hearted person who makes you feel very comfortable. He has lots of ideas and initiative that truly helps giving the NY CS scene it's wonderful heartbeat.

Oh Richmond Invasion, where would we all be without you?! I think after I successfully introduced the possibilities of near death experiences while driving around a car load of CSers, it takes a lot for a person to smile and sincerely say that he enjoyed himself. Maybe there is something in the water (or the beer), but Bastien gets major kudos for relishing life and its people, because he can do just that! I really had a terrific experience traveling and talking with Bastien; there isn't much that wins over the amazing combinations of French films and house parties, nor a park stroll with Nutella. I'm hoping there will be more in store with this terrific person!

After hearing Kristin and Nicky talk about Bastien for months, I was finally able to meet him at the weekly Revival Meeting. Within seconds of meeting him, I understood why! So funny, extremely welcoming, and has the greatest hat I have ever seen. I hope to hang out with him again before I leave!

Well, i only met with Bastien twice in my life and both times in the same city and the same place, but i can assure he's a great dude! People talk you know? And i havent heard anything bad about him! Hope one day we can spent a longer time together! too bad i missed that trip to boston! :)

 

So the one problem with extremely active couchsurfers like Bastien, is that they are eh... extremely active. As in: actively engaging all the 5 zillion couchsurfers that come to New York City every day. So for that reason we didn't quite get to talk enough over the few days that I surfed Bastien's couch. And of course I was the big party pooper on the last night, bailing out right before the elephants walked in. So it's my own fault as well. But all in all I consider it a privilege to have been hosted by this French globetrotter, and I hope (and am sure) that I will see him again soon! Keep spreading the couchsurf bug Bastien. :)

Bastien is a very nice and trustful guy. He promptly responded a message I sent to the group and lent me his bike in NY, which made one of my best days at there! Didn't had the opportunity to be his guest, but he seems like a very good and experienced host, as well as lives in an apartment with and amazing view of NYC.

 

Bastien is a wicked cool dude who is the quintisental Couch Surfer. I had a great time meeting him on St. Patty's/Evacuation Day in Boston and I can't wait for my next chance to hang out with him!

Bastien has a natural way of bringing people together.
He is someone who people migrate to, someone who people just want to be around. He's always willing to lend a hand. He's always equipted with great advice and he always welcomes the challenge to take big ideas and make them reality. : )

 

I didn't surf with Bastien when I was in NY but I did get to spend a couple nights out at the bar with him and there are precious few people out there friendlier than this guy. I had a great time exploring one of the seediest bars in the country and talking about travel. Look him up even if you don't intend to surf with him.

Like Frank said: "Everything is easier in a new city if there's a Bastien!" He is a big part of cs and he lives couchsurfing...that´s his lifestyle. We had cool a Halloween & a Thanksgiving Party at his place in Harlem. His a great guy.

 

If you are ever given the opportunity to cross this guys path somewhere in the world, make sure you stop and have a drink with him, you will not regret it. Bastien is a kind, generous, oddly humorous French man with sincere optimism. His hugs are sensational as are his abilities to see the best in people. I feel fortunate to have met him and to have shared so many fun, funnier, crazy, exciting, sobering and serious moments. A+ et bisous, hope to see you in Oz in the near distant future :)

The man, the legend. We were initially amazed at the fact that everyone knew Bastien when we first arrived in NY, but we got used to it, because the dude's just great to everyone. Even mentioning the fact that we were surfing Bastien's couch would earn us extra respect, more beer, and women. Bastien's aura is so awesome, it made us seem cool too. His couch is nice, big and comfy, and his apartment-for-rent is a really sweet deal too.

Sorry it took us so long to get back to you, Bas! We just got caught up with classes and everything. Suet says she misses you. Did you find a special someone to "hold your baguette"? Thanks for making our virginal CS experience so memorable!

NYC wouldn´t have been the same if it wasn´t for Bastien, such a down to earth friendly guy. Bastien is always willing to meet new people and does so on a million a day basis but never fails to connect with each person. Thanks for everything Bastien and come to Valencia

 

This neversleeping superman under gray hat (or Bastien, as they call him) was kind enough to let me stay at his uber-comfy apt in east village, since I found my own place, which actually save my first week. I met him in my first NYC day/night at Revival, and since then I am watching his generosity, friendliness, energy and great hospitality with great astonishment.

Stick to him and you will learn every bit of New York taste in a couple of days.

Met at the gathering last night, he made me & my friend feel really welcome and was always available for a chat as we wandered through the crowd :)

Bastien is a fun, crazy, always up to do something interesting kind of person. Right up my ally! Whether you want to go for thai food, ice skating in the park or go "dungeon dancing" til four in the morning, hes your guy. He knows lots of great spots around nyc, so take advantage of his knowledge! He is one of the many parts of nyc that I will definitely be missing.

Bastien's couch was full, unfortunately, but I got to stay in his amazing apartment in the East Village... extraordinary location, affordable, and even had a living room! Bastien might be the best person in New York to surf with: he knows pretty much anything you could ever want to know about the city, particularly how to get by on a dime. He'll also invite you to the coolest parties in the area. Go to them (particularly if they are hipster themed ;).) Thanks for the fantastic experience! I can't wait to return to the city.

Bastien is a very fun guy, friendly, kind-hearted, and really just lovable! He let me practice my French with him until I was the one who couldn't stand it anymore one night. So yeah, he's generous too! haha ;D He has a lot of energy, so you better be able to handle it, people! Bastien, you're awesome.

Bastien opened my eyes on the Couch Surfing community. Without his trust and open armed welcome I wouldn't have had the chance to see New York the way I did. Do I have something substantial to say about Bastien ? Well, that's kind of difficult, so many things were said about him, all good stuff (and as much as I know, totally deserved... ), that maybe I shoudn't leave my reference, maybe that's pointless... But I still think that I wanna do it, just to thank him for being the way he is, kind and generous, patient, open, so sweet and welcoming. I believe that guy just loves people, and do whatever it takes to help, to make life easier for a lot of them. It's the kind of guy that you feel you can count on, and who never let you down. And he's really fun to hang out with, I wish I had more time in NYC to spend more moments with him. Hopefully soon, when I'll come back ;)

 

It is almost ridiculous to leave Bastien a reference, since there're already so many positive ones... he's a very nice guy, good listener, and seems to be tireless and to really love life. A consummate CSer, I'd say.

 

Know Bastien since December 2006. We were the winning team at the Sinterklaas party in Rotterdam, YES! He is like a friend, feel complety myself in his presence. I surfed his couch in New York in August 2007 and met many other surfers at a CS diner. He is just a great guy and really fun to hang out with. He rented us a room 'cheaply' in the East Village on 2nd street for 4 nights ... as my non-CS boyfriend didn't want to surf a couch;) Ask him if you like your privacy. Had fun when we were in NY in December, thanx for everything you are the best.

Bastien is Mr. NYC couchsurfing. He knows the city back to front and is really good to sit down and chat with. I had a great time getting to know him and all his friends. He also has a really cool hat:)

 

Spent the Christmas Eve at a party Bastien organized for couch surfers in his apartment, like everything else he organizes, it was wonderful. As part of the random present exchange at the party, I got a lottery ticket form him, we didn't win but who cares about money when one is lucky enough to meet so many amazing couch surfers? Everyone around him is always interesting and nice! Oh, and he is a Petit Prince fan too!

I had seen him at some CS meetings but I didn't really know him till I ended up on his couch one night -and I found out that he was very cool -a great guy! So I spend my last two weeks in NYC with him -enjoying every second of it. He is such a warm and open guy, who truly are interested in and cares about other people. Miss you Bastien!

Bastian's dedication in NY CS community is nothing less than admirable, he is a great ambassador for both Couchsurfing and New York. Friendly, kind, generous, French, fun and funny. It is his dedication that made Revival bar the mingling heart and a must-visit place for many CSers in the area. Great job dude!

If you go to your local toy store you can pickup a Bastien CS Action Figure...it comes with some wine and pate in one hand and the other is stretched out ready to give you a big hug...also, it has sweet apartment in Harlem (action figures these days have their own digs) and also functions as a key to unlock the door to a special and exciting community in NYC...full of Bastien's beautiful friends and hot spots. We disagree about whether the best wine in the world comes from France or California but I think I can say with certainty that the best wine in NYC is the wine your drink with Bastien. I look forward to returning this summer and developing what is already a good friendship into a close one.

 

Bastien is the best example of what CS is all about :) Friendly, open-minded and generous, he was a great host in New York for 4 days, and a wonderful introduction to the night life of New York city!

If you get to know the couchsurfing community in New York it is impossible not to meet Bastien. I met him everytime when i went to the revival bar meetings and we had a nice evening at Carmines and the Charmin Restrooms together.

Bastien is full of positive energy. He's one of the most lively, sociable, and kind gentlemen I've had the honor of meeting.

Bastien is one of the most interesting people I have ever met. He is extreemly nice, generous and trustworthy. He is always willing to give good advice, if not his unique take on a situation. I'm glad to be his roommate.

It was great meeting Bastien in NYC. We both attended the first party looking like CSing addicts with our CSing shirts! He is very friendly.

I have gotten to spend a lot more time with Bastien in the months that I've lived in the NYC area. If there was a king of CS, I would nominate him. He has been so wonderful with making the NYC CS group so active. He is always organizing parties and events. He is always helping out travelers and new CSers. I love talking with him about our travels and CS stuff. I hope to cross his path again someday. Meeting Bastien should be a must for all CSers.

Bastien is the superman of CS! He is such a cool fun dude to hang out with. I took him and his friend Nicolas out for a tour of LA. Had lunch at the best view restaurant by the Santa Monica pier. Went out party and had a blast! See you in NYC or LA again soon!!

 

This guy is so kind. One night, when one of my hosts were fuckin' around we went to a club, had some beers and he hosted me. I
also went to his Halloween party half naked just after getting married.

I stayed at Basti's (my classmates and I nicknamed him and his roomate "Sebi")with a couple of my friends and him and his roomate were so fun and hospitable they took us out with their friends who were also very enjoyable people! It was always fun to tease them about their love affairs with computers, I'll definitely visit them when back in Paris!

I went to New York not only to be there but to be able to see my 1st host after a year but he worked in Chicago during my stay and only was able to hang out for an evening (but still let me surfhis flat how great!), but luckily as promised a year ago made it out to California and we ended up spending a fun filled alcohol flowing weekend in SF, a drive down the 1 (PCH), a 5am breakfast of Tommy's, and more dancing and drinking in LA!
It was absolutely great to hang out to such an extent with Bastien again! And look forward to more in the future!

Bastian was a great first guest at my little cubicle. He came with his friend Nicolas and we had a great time hanging out. Not once did they ever complain and both were easygoing working around my schedule. It was a shame i didnt get to hang out so often but I did miss a day at work for some sunshine and good times in Crissy fields park. You have to work on the hulahoop! I dont know what to say what people havent said already but we were able to get along very well because were both easy going and up for a party! :P Also, he is very considerate like me! now im wondering whether im talking about him now :P Anywho, dont hesitate taking in this guy because chances are you might need him in the future like I will in New York :P im kidding, I would greatly settle for a cup of coffee at your local cafe in New York! or whever you might me in the future! peace

Bastien and I share a common struggle/contradiction in the whole corporate life-wanna-be-free-wanderer [we probably spend a lot of time at work daydreaming about far away places :)]. He’s a NY CS leader – the best kind too because he’s low-key about it and he leads through his passion, commitment and example. Moved to NY recently from France and it’s evident that CS is his family. The NYC CS community is very lucky to have him. quality guy. *also he's a great jumping out of plane buddy.

What's funny is what i wrote about him then is EXACTLY what i still think about him now. he's wonderful, he's great..he's making his next destination super lucky and blessed--if he continues on this couchsurfing mission. and it IS a mission. no one better to lead it than mr. genefort. always imagined you'd never leave revival or that penthouse (he's like the chrysler building).g'luck my man. i hope our paths cross again!

I met Bastien at the first weekly CS meetup I ever attended in NYC that he organized. Ever since that first time meeting other CSers in person, I have been hooked, and I thank him for helping to establish routine gatherings of CSers here in NY. He introduced me to the members there whom many of which, including him, have motivated me to really live the CS lifestyle.
I finally got to ask him about his experience living in Vietnam, and his experiences there are inspiring, he truly knows and exemplifies what the CouchSurfing project is all about. I'm glad he is a part of the NY community, and when you visit NY, it won't be hard to find him, just look for the famous hat you see him wearing in all of his pictures!

Bastien is one of the main organizers of everything CS that ever happens in NYC, I really don't know what our community here in NY would be like if he hadn't stormed onto the scene! Thanks Bastien for being one of the best things to happen to our great city, and also for making our amazing CS invasion of Boston!!

vive le chapeau gris! bastien has an amazing, tres cool presence. he is the type of person who is at home anywhere and everywhere and makes everyone feel like instant family. he self-handedly organized a fabulous haunted pub meeting while he was in town. he is the only one that is allowed to laugh at my silly puertorican french accent all he wants because he knows about patxaran... you know you left your wine AND cachaca bottles here... and you still have to fix my computer. any excuses to get you back :)

Bastien, a super nice frenchman! He is a constant part of the NYC gang and he almost never misses out on parties, dinners and camping trips! ;) Which means, if you are in NYC you wont get around meeting him, lucky you!! Once he hosted me and a friend spontaneously after Revival as it got pretty late and we did not know where to sleep. If only everyone had Bastien's level of initiative. Rather than wait for a local CSer to put together a meetup while he was in town, Bastien took the bull by the horns and pulled off a coup by having the largest (or second largest) Chicago CS meetup in 6 months! I give him a gold star for initiative and he's a really nice guy to boot. Only down side to a big meetup, less time with everyone, so I'm hoping he will come back through Chicago again so we have more time to hang out when I'm less busy. You've got a place to stay! Definitely meet this guy.

A Frenchman making a difference not only in NYC, but, in USA CS generally. Beware, Bastien might invade your city soon! Quite courageous to dig into a Filipino buffet, survived my jokes and good orientation of the roads around my new home Chicago, slept without a pillow and took care of my green pig for me. Too much adjectives….generous, good listener, excellent grammar, helpful, etc…changes your concept of Frenchmen. Don’t be surprised if you see him in the billboards of Time Square.

My very first Couchsurfing friend, best French teacher EVER, and a beautiful salsa dancer. Since Bastien moved here, NYC has become a much better place! This guy is awesome...helped me throw a rockin' birthday party and have far too many good times in New York City! Bastien is one of the coolest frenchies I've met, and a great ambassador to our great nation he is... oops I'm getting a bit carried away here ;-) french stuff... Seriously he is a very helpful, friendly and a fun person to have around. He accepted to host me on very short notice in his flat in the east village, and introduced me to his group of fun-loving newyorker friends.
Just one recommendation if u stay in his flat: there is a piece of f*!&ing pointy metal sticking down from his roof so watch your head when you get in and out of bed ! I managed to injure myself twice :-( well i guess i wasnt exactly sober...

 

I met Bastien at my first CS gathering. He has a really nice, calm and positive energy, and a joie de vivre that is infectious. I enjoyed talking his ear off and listening to him as well (his English is SUPERB). My short-lived experience with him left me with the impression that Bastien is a great asset to the CS community. He cares about forging rich, intercultural relationships and inspires the desire to do so in others. I hope to meet him again. Perhaps at The Crocodile Lounge.***UPDATE*** Boy was my estimation of Bastien on point! We have met several times at parties and more intimate gatherings since the above review was written. He's even been to my apartment. I think Nick Pallas' reference for Bastien echos my own estimation very closely. Of all of the New York CS people, Bastien is definitely among the most active and responsible for breathing life into the community. He has done so in a way that benefits not only CSers visiting New York, but those of us who live here as well. I've had so many good laughs, deep cultural exchanges and participated in a number of interesting/wild/unique local events because of him. Whenever an ocassion arises in which Bastien is participating, you can bet it will be fun. As I often tell him, he is an excellent ambassador for New York and I am personally enriched for having met him.

Conversing with Bastian makes one feel the most important person in the room, if not the planet - he listens and queries with genuine interest, open curiosity, and his beautiful eyes simply do not leave yours. It is a rare few who live so entirely in every moment. I hope life continues to present me with opportunities to give my asian soulmate even 1/10th of the generosity he shows the whole wide world. Ah Bastien! This french buddy is definitely part of NYC. I could never imagine he's been there only for 3 months. He speaks a very good english (yeah I'm jealous) with a lovely french accent. Bastien organized this great meetup in Boston in August 07 bringing together people from everywhere. He's a connector - a really good one. He surfed my couch - er, my roommate's empty bed and watched me eat the eiffle tower (yes, the real one). He became an instant ultimate frisbee pro and won the hearts of everyone he crushed on the field. Bastien is welcome back anytime, i'll have a party waiting for you.

So much was going on at the party we didn't get much time to talk. Initial impression very good.

I met Bastien at a CS gathering while I was visiting NYC. He is a fun and lively person with lots of interesting stories, who will chat with you in various languages and isn’t afraid to dance to cheesy 80's songs :)

This has got to be one of my favorite couchsurfers ever, come on the "hat" is great. What a character this guy always has a contagious smile every where he goes.

He is very friendly. The only problem is: he is from France and I don'd have good memories about the last world cup. We had a good time in NYC, fun, funny guy.

 

Went to various events in NYC within a period of 2-3 days including dinners at couchsurfing gatherings(3), Die hard movie (1), and Tore-Tore (1).

Last thursday was the first time I saw him Sober!

 

One of my first CS friends, the coolest maxi awesome French dude in NYC!!! He started a weekly Thursday CS gathering that should be part of any CSer's itinerary visiting NYC. He's been lving in NYC for months but his knowledge of the city is comparable to native Manhattanites when it comes to food, rhythm and booze! And yes, like New York City, he never sleeps! ;-)

 

Although Bastien is originally from France, he is the glue that holds the NYC CS community together! Within 30 seconds of talking to him you feel like you have known him forever--it is a great feeling and he is an extraordinary person whom is dedicated to CSing and spreading its love around the world.

A really lovely guy and unofficial CS NYC social planner! Bastien is very fun and easy to talk to - and if you're lucky, he'll let you wear his cool hat! =) Hope to see a lot more of him in the future!

Wow..well I made it home in one piece not without more plane issues...but well BASTIEN ROCKS, with crazy plane delays, calls from my mom and 2 am arrival, he still was the most gracious host, had tons of fun in jam packed 24 hours or so, very interesting and open!! And he made sure I got to my early morning flight...cant wait to hang out again when i come thru the city..Merci Beaucoup...in my corny american acent ;)

 

Bastien crashed at my place one rainy day in Rotterdam. Then, I saw him in NYC! I'm happy to see him activating the CS community there. Bastien is a very friendly and witty guy and a modest surfer!

 

Bastien is such a perfect emissary for CS--such joy and spirit and openness and generosity. We had such a terrific time picnic-ing and barbecuing and hanging out for two days over two parks, two apartments, and much food and drink. And we're both trying hard to get more Manhattan hosts!!

BastiEn!!! thank you SO much for coming to new york- you are nothing short of a breath of fresh air. i already can't imagine living here without you- how did i ever do it before saturday?! we WILL have many playdates ahead of us. i feel warmed up just knowing that we will hang out and paint the town red, and green and orange and yellow and blues very bloody soon! i'm thinking tomorrow. hows about it?

I met Bastien in March as he moved in NY and we are co-workers. He introduced me to couchsurfing and he finally convinced me to create a profile. I guess he is a perfect example of couchsurfer, friendly and open mind :)

 

i KNOW i will be meeting this guy a lot...he is very similar to me and a great guy...xoxo...A wonderful person, kindered spirit and someone who has the same openness and intensity that I look for in my friends...I can't believe I left NYC after just meeting him, but I know we'll meet again. Bastien is the person who made me finally believe in ideas of CS. I didn't even expect that anyone can be so kind a person he is seing for the first time. Thanks, Bastien, for hosting and for your friends and for showing real NY.

I loved hanging out with Bastien all over again!! He has become a good friend since I meet him back in Paris! He came to visit for a 4 day weekend and we had a BLAST- parties, bars, pubs, dancin, beaches and great food! Cant wait til he visits again or til I meet up with him in NYC! Miss ya sweetie!
***Nov 2006***I had the best time meeting Bastien at the Paris CS meet! We became instant friends and chatted the night away!! He hosted me so that I could stay in Paris longer but unfortunately I had a family issues and had to fly back tot he states! We will always have, Sushi, Devil Wears Prada, Loads of potatoes, JAGER SHOTS, Tiger Kitty, CS memories, Fingers, Broken Locks and many other things! I ll miss him! He is such a sweetie and anyone would have the time of their lives visiting him! Thanks hun!

 

Bastien is a much needed addition to the CS circle in NYC. He understands the true meaning of "community" in his efforts to create a regular meet-up on Thursday nights. Don't let his efforts go unappreciated and please do come to his events - they are great!

 

Great host and entertainer, Bastien's weekly sojourn at Croc has created a great comfortable zone for surfers to meet up and help each other out. We are lucky he's here!

 

I'm proud to have stayed with Bastien as my first CS experience. It's not easy to see how it could get any better than this! Welcoming, caring and truly outgoing are just a few words to describe him.

 

I admire Bastien's bright CS spirit and enthusiasm and his efforts to organize a regualar NYC gathering. He has a great smile you just know is almost always on his face. I'm sure Paris was sad to see him go but boy are we lucky to have him, at least for a little while!

Bastien rocks. i just came out of a CS meeting with him in New York that was great fun.Wherever he goes, he brings with him his good humor and his sense of party. It's a loss for Paris community that he left us, but it's a great gain for NY

 

Met him at his favourite bar in Paris, didn't know much people at the time, saw him at the bar and he was very welcoming and very friendly straight away. He is the kind of warm person who makes you feel welcme and confortable. Very generous and he will help you if you can. Just look what he did for Nata! ;) Hope to see you very soon, Paris, NYC... well for sure it will be wicked! :)

He was the master-planner and got everybody from all walks of life and groups to gather and eat free pizza and drink..in NYC..that's a feat! Hope to go to more of his gatherings:)

Bastien is my neighboor back in france, yet i only met him all the way to the opposite side of the world. I keep on hearing that french people are rude and arrogant, well i found a fellow french diplomat to help me out and prove those americans wrong. we are nice and fun, and yes, you are right, we smoke... this i can give you... but we are great smoking company... ;-) or at least he is... a good listener, an interesting talker, and quite a good drinker... He'll definitely make a great host/guest

We were running everywhere in Paris Eric and me for our formalities for india and this oooooh wonderfull Bastien just host us for all the week. I also have to say that i never drank such a big amount of wine and beer in a week. Really I had great time, the better I ever had in Paris with great people! Hope you will come visit us in montreal this summer!

Bastien is a really fun guy to hang around with...it was great having him part of the group on St. Patrick's Day in NYC.

Nice to find such excellent new couchsurfer as Bastien. In few months he became CS addicted, had lot of fun hosting people and meeting them in different meetings. Spread CS spirit in American territory mate! Bon vent!

Life is unfair. Just when you meet someone as interesting and friendly as Bastien, they tell you they're moving in New York... But then maybe life has a higher purpose and you got to seize the opportunities; so I hope I'll get the opportunity to visit him when he settles in the Big Apple (actually, I just wanna see the cat..)

Time to write more:D:D:D After my 1 month in Paris i can't imagine this city without Bastien. And now he is leaving to NY:( crying about it:( This guy is amazing. I haven't felt so comfortable with anyone for long time. He made by "getting used to Paris" less painfull. I know that now I can call him my close friend:)I have a lot of things to thank him for...He listened to me when I needed it, he gave me his arm to put my head on when I was tired, he hugged me when I was sad, he introduced me to his friends as a good friend of his and lot's of more...After this short time I've known him I'm sure that he is one of this people who I want to have around me. He is just totaly awsome:D:D:D!!!!!!!

Lovely dude on his way to grand new york city! Super involved in the Parisian CS community (even his cat couchsurfs!), a hard guy to keep up with. Offered his home when I was looking for an apartment and took me to one of the best icecream places in Paris. Und ja, er hat recht, meine Franzosisch klinkt ein bisschen wie Das. :)

I met yet twice Bastien in a cs group and really enjoyed to chatter with him. He's often smiling and laughing, and likes a lot discover others countries. Very active in the cs paris group. Hope to go to see him soon to New York!

Bastien has the quintessential bachelor pad. And while the accomodations are modest, it's incredibly comfortable. Bastien is as chill as they come, and his cat is pretty chill too.
Would definitely surf and/or party with him again.

bastien is a great guy, it has been alot of fun to get to know him. we have partied a few nights at couch surf parties; visited versailles, it has been a great time!! by mistake i said the experience was extremely negative, sorry bastien!! i am super new to couch surf, he was an awesome host, and i look forward to seeing him in new york, what a small world!!!

 

Bastien is another great guy from all the parisian CS group. See him in many meetings and he was a part of the group who went to invade Rotterdam in december! I don't have a lot to tell for the moment about him... but I'm sure I will soon!

He's one of the first CS I met. He's a very great guy, really open minded. I think we'gonna meet in many others meetings, to share our South west education!:)

 

Waiting for a visa, getting rabies and hepatitis shots... Our last week in Europe could of really sucked, especially in a city we've been to so many times.
Instead, we surfed at Bastien's flat and just had the greatest time in Paris! Bastien has the real CS spirit and joined us in our battle against Paris controllers, introduced us to his friends and overall made the week fly by!

He had to work Monday morning but instead stayed up drinking with us in order to learn some new drinking games AND to watch us drink the Canadians under the table...HA HA HA. This is my kind a friend, if you don't like to party late and eat sausage, don't surf with this guy!

I'm glad I met Bastien while going to Rotterdam celebrating Sinterklaas. He's so peaceful and calm... but don't mistake him : he's got a holy sens of humour and the sparkle in his eyes says he likes to party !!! See you soon !

bastien is a rock star dancer, he's got the smooth moves,yo. i talked with bastien at fred's birthday party, but got the honor of dancing with him at macha's. he's a charmer, this one. and did i mention he dances? like amazingly?
