Couch Available: Maybe
Preferred Gender: Any
Max Surfers Per Night: 2

Shared Sleeping Surface: No
Shared Room: Depends

There is a sub-room.

We prefer hosting people who do not travel by plane. *** We live in a countryside, about 50 km outside of Stockholm, in an eco-village. One has to take a local train towards Gnesta and get off at Järna in order to get here. The village is 3 km away (40 min. by foot) from the station. *** Me and my girlfriend are vegans (so is our son Inok), that's why no animal products (meat/fish, eggs, milk products...) are allowed at our place, and prefferably no alcohol/tobacco.

Personal Description

Even though I still host via corporate CS, I recommend people to use
www.bewelcome.org
It's a non-profit, community driven, open-source and facebook-free hospitality network!

Thank you for reading my profile before you contact me. Make sure you contact me in your mother tongue if it is one of the languages I speak or understand (see to the left) - if I see that you are from Russia, for example, but nonetheless contact me in English I probably won't bother to answer you because I'll know you didn't read my profile and sent a mechanical couch request instead. Please write a personal request.

Hosting is essential to me. If you come to Stockholm though please think twice before you write me: as my location address and "couch description" suggest I do not really live in Stockholm itself. It is a calm little village 50 km from Stockholm, outside of Järna. It is a one hour ride with a commuter train, and 3 km walk after that. If you are fine with that, I will be more than happy to host you!

Note that I also use BeWelcome and Hospitality Club.

I am a frequent online services user, so you can also find me on: Facebook | Lithuanian Wikipedia | English Wikipedia | HitchWiki.org | Trashwiki.org | MySpace | PicasaWeb | YouTube (see also Romuald's space.)

In short, I like simplicity of things. Sharing. Sincerity. I make a lot of mistakes in my life but I really try to notice every single one of them and make sure it won't happen again. I like to see happy beggar's eyes when I give him a penny. Believing in good is very important to me even if there is nothing good left around.

I happened to create a blog "Gyventi sąmoningai" ("Conscious Living", in Lithuanian) on environmental issues, human and animal rights, and I am also a co-founder of Animal Rights Lithuania. Recently I have been mainly involved in Swedish Food and Environment Information work.

How I Participate in CS

Hosted and been hosted by hundreds of people - stopped counting long time ago. Quantity is not quality, of course, - but it makes me happy to help others with the lodgings (not only through CS but via HospitalityClub, BeWelcome and HHB (R.I.P.) as well). Peace and brotherhood!

Interests

Extreme (survival) travel, hitch-hiking, eco-activism, vegan lifestyle, animal rights, gardening, biodynamic farming and eco-lifestyle, sustainable living in general, painting/drawing, busking, songwriting, torturing my guitar (sometimes I switch to accordion, piano or bass), amateur climbing (love it, but can't really do that properly yet), languages, computer animation, basic HTML, editing different wikis, blogging, enjoying sunshine...

Philosophy

Somehow the fate led me to certain decisions in my life, and these desicions turned everything around and in many ways made me swim against the current. One of those "life decisions" was an agreement (between me and myself) that respect to life should be followed with a respect to all earthlings that are to be born free, live free and die free. This in its turn inevitably led me to accepting veganism as the most humane way of living. Following that I became heavily involved in vegan education and eco- and animal rights activism whereas the accepted view somehow spread further into my family where both of my brothers turned vegans.
At the moment I consider myself an animal rights abolitionist (Dr.Gary Francione's views), and am a vegan because I find following reasons to be too strong to ignore: 1. ethical (respect to life, compassion); 2. environmental ("one can't be a meat-eating environmentalist" - probably many of us have heard that), 3. prevention of world starvation and saving limited Earth resources (did you know that to produce 1 kg of meat you need much more land, water and energy than if you produce grains and vegetables?.. that for the production of each kg of meat one needs up to 7 kg of grains which otherwise can be consumed directly by human?; 4. health (every respectful health/dietetic institution will tell you about the benefits of a veg diet). I believe (and I have many arguments for that) that we err by being so selfishly abusive towards the earthlings and our planet in general, - to be a predator is one thing, to be a killing machine is another (although I won't consider human being a natural predator - our nearest relatives - primates - very seldom, if at all, hunt)- animal rights is not some belief like Biblical stories, and not some faith in possibility of something to exist or not (is there God? is there karma and samsara?), animal rights surely can be seen as a clear concept based on reality facts, and furthermore can be considered as a moral and logical statement with a certain level of simple compassion intervened.).
THOU SHALL NOT KILL.
Sure, humans are the strongest creatures on this planet - but does that give us the right to exploit everything and everyone in order to satisfy our never satisfied wants? Hm, send me a good answer if you know one. ;)

Probably one of the number ones for me is a renunciation of all earthly pleasures and letting go of my Ego - in this way I hope to immerse in love and care towards anything around us. Simplicity is the key. :) Wise are Buddhas words: When fishes are few, the heart is happy; when craving ends, there is peace.

Well, now you know smth about me.

Music, Movies, Books

Movies: "Earthlings" (2005), "Samsara" (2001), "Baraka" (1992), "Koyaanisqatsi - Life Out of Balance" (1983)...

Books: Arundhati Roy "The God of Small Things", Antoine de Saint-Exupéry "The little prince", Paulo Coelho "The Alchemist", Victor Hugo "Hunchback of Notredam"...

Music: Jose Gonzalez, The Knife, Nick Drake, Stina Nordenstam, Portishead, Jonas Hellborg, Gjallarhorn, Depeche Mode, Keith Jarrett, Kino, Boris Grebenshikov, Andrius Mamontovas & Foje, My Dying Bride, PJ Harvey, Nirvana...

Types of People I enjoy

peacefully rebellious

One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done

- hitch-hiked & hiked to the northernmost point (Nordkapp) in Scandinavia, in winter;
- have never been saving money and never had enough of them to buy anything more expensive than a decent guitar;
- was arrested once, and driven in a police car with handcuffs on (because they caught me sleeping where I was not "supposed" to sleep)
- loved, and been loved...

Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org Project

CS is a good idea at its core, but decision to make CS a for-profit corporation is a very bad step to make: http://www.couchsurfing.org/group.html?gid=45507

What do these numbers mean?

This summary is not a replacement for reading references; it's a quick summary to help you get started. At a glance, you can see how many references a member has, and how many of them are positive, neutral, and negative.

In the second line, you'll see how many references came from people who hosted this member, surfed with them, and traveled with them. These numbers won't always add up to the total: some references are not categorized, and some may be categorized as more than one thing.

When viewing this summary, don't jump to conclusions! Things that are negative for one person may be positive for another, and vice versa. It's important to read references carefully and evaluate what that information means to you.

Full of dreads and an amazing guitar player! Romuald lives with my other friend Petra outside Stockholm in an amazing countryside hippie house. They just got the most beautiful son (looks like Yoda!) I can definitely recommend staying with them! :)

Romuald and Petra stayed at our collective for some days. While i was not having the best time due to a bike crash, it was totally fine with them and they were easy and nice to be around. They both seem very interesting persons who are participating in a lot of good ideas up in Stockholm, and around. Good luck to you and the little new :-)

Meeting Romuald as well as Petra was a really special experience and I am not quite sure I can do it justice writing about it in this tiny little reference box. But I am so glad I had the chance to meet him, he is very kind, very interesting and just such wonderful cook. Thanks again and good luck and I only hope I have the chance to hang out with you guys again one day.

Romuald has strong ideas about how to live in harmony with nature, can even play flamenco with the guitar and is a very generous person, as his girlfriend Petra. Both made my stay at their place really pleasant and made me think about exploring a little bit more veganism.

Romuald and Petra hosted me for one night in their house near Jarna.

Their life style in the countryside is very interesting. We had a nice conversation about yoga, food and habits.

Romuald is the partner of my best friend, Petra! And the father of their child. It's hard to find a person as passionate about fairness as Roffe. His engagement in animal rights and sustainability is to be considered as the way of living we all should strife for. I'm happy Petra has this wonderful man in her life. I'm sure that if you would find your way to their sofa, you would be treated with hearthonest love and respect.

Romuald, is a very easy going guy. While he was ill and had to focus on his studies he still let us stay in his house. Because of this situation we might not really have connected to each other but I we had a great time staying at his nice place with a great surrounding of nature.
