Sherry Huckabee

 

I met Sherry on a CS sailboat outing and we were friends right away. Hosting her was easy and fun, with a great sharing of stories.

We had such an easy time getting to known one another. Had a fantastic day in Glacier park and enjoyed our conversations, observations, and adventures on the trail. Really wanted to get together again, but did not have the chance. Would love to host them at our home sometime in the future and will keep in touch until then.

Sherry is the most beautiful soul I have ever met. She has introduced me to couch surfing. Sherry is the kind of woman that will challenge you to be the best person you can be. She encourages you to love and be loved.

 

Sherry and Dan are amazing people to be in company with. Sherry is quick witted, kind, and caring. Dan is friendly and helpful. They make wonderful surfers and I know they will now be wonderful friends. Some people along the way are keepers. I feel lucky.

Sherry's way of being makes you instantly feel that life is worth living. Just a few moments spend with her and your whole day is brightened up. And this is not only my experience, but also the others I know had, while meeting her.
I've met her during the Medieval Festival in Sighisoara, when I went to their office in order to meet her and to show other 2 cs-ers from America where the cs-meeting was going to take place the other day. Right after hearing that the 2 cs-ers where not from Sighisoara she asked them if they need a surf, even though she and Hans hosted around other 40 people during that period. Sherry is the kind of person who likes any kind of people. She is open and she has a great heart.
One has to meet Sherry during his life, otherwise he misses a really great person. I can consider myself lucky because I've met her.

Sherry and Hans hosted me and my friends during The Medieval Art Festival in Sighisoara and they were more than great.:) Sherry was the guide in the house and a very kind host. We tried to help as much as we could that weekend because the house was full and 2 people managing everything wasn't enough; and I'm glad you are pleased of what we did, Sherry.:) Anyway, it was a pleasure writing and drowing the posters and talking with people about the house and everything. And the evening we celebrated Hans's birthday was great! It was so simple and special, it was like we were a little family, I liked it a lot! Keep in touch! Sherry and Hans were great hosts!!! They hosted me and my friends (and other 40 people) during the medieval festival in Sighisoara. I really admire their trust in people and their passion for nature and ecology. I'm really happy I met you and I hope to see you again!

Always enchanted by Shelly's spark and presence. I met her almost a year ago in Sighisoara in the "Sighisoara durabila" NGO and in the first day of the Sighisoara festival this year and she was as welcoming and opened as always. She seems to be thriving when there are people around and she gets the chance of turning the chaos of first encounters into well oiled couchsurfing Sighisorean tower clock.

Sherry is a luminous Valkyrie flitting from perch to perch, catalyzing change in the situations and people around her. She is deep emotional wisdom interspersed with snippets of Shakespeare, very grounded but full of adventure. Let the uptight beware: Sherry will take the measure of your soul, and open hers. Don't miss the chance to meet her if one of her far-flung paths crosses yours.

Sherry is a blast! We talked for only a few hours but felt like we had known each other for years. She is so open and honest that it's impossible not to love her. I just can't wait to see her again!

We met a Couch Surfer in Sighisoara who's girlfriend happened to be from Charlotte, where my wife and I just recently lived. He took us over to their home and introduced us to Sherry and we ended up talking for about FOUR HOURS. She entertained us with stories of her travels over some delicious blueberry schnapps and gave us a lot of great tips for our traveling adventure. In the end we left because she needed to start packing for a trip back to the U.S. and we only we wish we'd have met her earlier. We can't wait to bump into her again someday!

Sherry hosted my girlfriend and I for 4 nights of fun at her apartment in Romania. Besides becoming addicted to her coffee (it only takes one cup), we also got to start a business selling honey pots, experience Slovenian blueberry schnapps, and learn how to do the I Ching. We were so comfortable there that we had a hard time doing anything until late afternoon. She has a million stories, has done everything (and is planning more), and is someone you can instantly open up to. I hope we'll see you soon, and thanks for everything!

It was cool to connect with Sherry and hear a bit about what she's done, what she's doing, and what she would like to do. She's quite the adventurist and I admire her for that and the noble work she's doing in Romania. I imagine we'll meet some time in the future. Drop me a line Sherry! Recently, I was reflecting on how I became part of the couchsurfing community and consequently came to know so many great people. An inescapable conclusion emerge: all of the credit belongs to Sherry Huckabee, a contract attorney colleague, who I met at a law firm in NYC in early 2008, and who shared my passion of traveling and meeting people. Sherry, I apologize for the passage of an unacceptable amount of time between you telling me about this project, you writing me a reference, and my failure to publicly acknowledge this. I hope that you can forgive my boorishness. I, however, think that its better late than never to say: thank you Sherry for introducing me to couchsurfing. As you can see from my profile its been an amazing ride (despite all of my early concerns), hahaha. My life is definitely brighter for having met you and the couchsurfers thereafter. I hope that we might stay in touch with each other. Again, thank you.

I was hosted by hans with whom sherry works, they are doing a very great job their. We slept in their office, and we learnt very ecological way of leaving and discovering country side. Our day journey riding mountain bike was very typical, we would never have down that much interesting trip without their help.

Sherry is interesting, smart, lovely, adventurous, full of energy, and has blue eyes you can rarely see in your life :-)

She is easy going, ready for fun, clubbing, it just can't be boring with her.

You can talk with her about anything. She was very willing to learn about our culture, history, way of life, food and drinks. I also heard many interesting informations about life in USA, her family, traveling impressions, so we had a good conversation.

Traveling articles on her internet site are very, very beautiful. I put one at couch information part of my profile. (I suggest everyone to check it.) I will definitely be one of her book readers when she finish it.

Would like to see her again somewhere, someday...

 

What can I say that has not been said before? Hmmm. A lot. It is interesting to meet an angel. They are different than you or I. They speak their own language; they know others. They have souls which are desperate for life; they have minds longing for knowledge; they turn words into songs; they can turn tears into smiles. They are an interesting species. Angels, because of their gifts, are somewhat more sensitive; when they cry, they cry deeply. They make the world a far more fascinating place. Sherry, I know, is one.

Sherry caught my eye at a train station in Brasov, and 6 hours later we still hadn't stopped talking. She is incredible company, has a beautiful curiosity towards everything she encounters; she's a sassy trooper. A person-shaped sea of kindness and wisdom. I miss her dearly.

Sherry is the ultimate embodiment of the CS spirit: trustworthy, curious, friendly and open. She is extremely witty and sharp-tongued (in a good way) and great, great fun to be around. I must say I admire her stamina and will be over the moon if we ever met again.

She is beautiful, interesting and lovely. We spent a wild night together with other friends in Pécs. We tried to climb the static horse on the main square of Pécs. It was great and instructive.

im really happy i met Sherry as she is a living example how one should stay young and still travell to get new friends and funny experiences when other people in the similar age just sit home and pretend to be tired.(including me sometimes :D)

Sherry is the person I got to know best at London Calling. Interesting, charming and extremly honest. I think my thoughts about her are best described if I say: I hope I'll be just like her when I grow up. And she's coming my way so we'll get to hang out some more in my part of the world:)
Update: We went travelling together and we had a blast, despite few clashes of our similar personalities. She is the person from who you can learn a lot about the world and yourself. I really enjoyed my time with her and hopefully we'll get to travel some more sometime.

Meeting Sherry was a really nice experience. It was my first surf and she told me a lot about the system. She is a very friendly, helpful and open person who is always eager to meet new people.

Sherry is great,lovely,intellegency,nice,talkactive...We spent a short time together between my trips and my best wishes to her and hope to see her someday!

 

Sherry is very unique person, smart, always willing to learn new things, adventurous to the bone but still looking for warmth of stable things. She knows that it's not about what you do in life, it's how much you stand behind your choices. And she is brave enough to always go forward no matter what.

 

Although we have known each other less than a year, Sherry is already part of my family. She was my very first Couchsurfer, and she almost immediately became a very close friend. After her first month in New York, she lived with us for three months! We all love her dearly. She's extremely self-reliant and responsible, but we spent as much time together as we could while she was here with us (which, given both of our crazy schedules, was never enough). She's the best first experience as a host I could have possibly had.

An unknown person is coming into your life. Sleeps in the children's room, comes to the office, silently writes something oh her notebook. Plays with children, laughs, or talks seriously. It's everytime interesting to be in her company! And inappreciably you discover that five days is enough to love Cherry.
Five days and she became like mother for our children, and best friend for us.

 

Sherry has great stories to tell, and I really enjoy following her travels through her writing. She has managed to stay enthusiastic and interested in different cultures and people, and is able to savour the little things in life. Our travels have brought us together more than once, and we've managed to keep in touch in between the meetings as well.

Thanks to Sherry I am here on the couchsufing site. She is very passionate about this fantastic way of experiencing the world. It is inspiring talking to her and all the great experiences she's had with other wonderful people. I would have liked to spend more time talking to her.

 

It's always good to see a familiar face, especially one who has embraced her past and lives for every minute of her future. It is nice to see active members who care about CS and have the chance to share it with strangers from around the world. Ci vedremo!

She did not just introduced me to this site, but also explained to me fully over email how to use it when i asked her for help. she is very caring, considerate, advanturous, and intersting person to talk to. She is great.

I am really happy i met Sherry with her bright smile and that she introduced me to couchsurfing.She is a really great person and even though i stayed with her just a few days, i feel very good. She is such a friendly, nice person and she makes her dreams come true and its what i like about her very much.

Sherry is a great person to meet and chat with. She's a lot of fun and was the one who convinced me to try couchsurfing. Hanging out with her was the highlight to my stay in Bulgaria.

Well, finally after almost a year of e-mailing I got to meet Sherry! With so many cross-connections and a missed trip together (what about the next New Year's holiday in an even colder place?) in between. Sherry is intelligent and there is no doubt about that. She was an easy guest to host and was quite flexible, during the joy/ordeal of hosting 5 people. Shes one of those people who have gained a lot during her travels and is motivated enough to pen a book on her travels. Her personality is aptly reflected with the ease she has in making friends. My best wishes for her book and I hope she considers the points I raised.

She is my mom, and although there have been rough roads over the years she has raised me well. If anyone wants someone to talk to or just a person who can be there but seems to not be there and still gives you your space she is the person. Also, she is really handy to have around the house because she is very resourceful....I think that's it...she's my mom, you can't not love her :)

 

The world is really smaller than we think... Last summer I was amazed by her post: "looking for a place in Italy, far frome the madding crowd, where to hide for a long time to write my book". And what a surprise, meeting Sherry @London Calling, to discover she was hosted by a common friend! It took me about three seconds to decide that Sherry and I would be friends. She has an amazing talent for making everyone comfortable. I don't think she has ever met a stranger.

I met the delightful Sherry at London Calling events in May 2007. Sherry was a lovely co-host at my first couch surfing experience. So friendly was she, she openly shared her life with me in the brief moments we had to get to know one another.

 

Beside being a heartful and energetic woman, Sherry is a wonderful travelwriter. She gave me very useful encouragements while I was searching for a couch in NYC. The narration of her travels through Europe (www.lyceumgardens.com) is colorful and will make you travel without leaving your couch.

 

It was really pleasant to talk with Sherry and to listen her speaking about her CS experiences. It's also amazing to see how she can convince people to join CS

 

A great conversationalist and pretty damn good dancer! We went from the CS gathering to the disco - and we closed the place down!

I wanted to go the the meeting in Vienna, I was registered there so a girl from cs sent me an email to go together... at the end I didn't go to the meeting but throw this girl I have met an other cs and then an other and by chance I have seen twice your profile cause u are in the profile of other people I know. then U have been in my home town(where I don't live anymore) that is not so easy cause it's a small town that nobody knows. ( do u know ascoli?!) I have just sent u an email to tell u hello but I felt really close to u immediately and this gave me the "courage" to work to host u in the house of my grandparents cause it was the best place to write your book. peace, food and nature. even if my grandmother can't understand the idea of cs somehow we found a way to host u.
u defenetely have to say thanks to my mum and not to me! so at the end U spent one month in the summer house of my grandmother...my family loved the experience,they 're close to u as I do. I haven't met u yet, but I know I'll do it and anyway even if this doesn't really happen often I feel so "connected" to u that somehow I think I know u and I can totally trust u. I also know u drink too much coffee!!(my dad told me it) to summarize u can totally trust this woman.u don't believe me?! just check her profile, there are so many references that probably u'll never read mine!!

Sherry is bright, open, funny. A wonderful CS ambassador who really lives the spirit. It was a pleasure hosting her and getting to know her a bit. I can't wait to read her couchsurfing novel.

I could write word for word the reference Sherry left me :) Our roads crossed a few times, but we never really found the time to know each other as well as we desserved, ah ah :) Texas is not on my road for this time, but it's a small world, one day or another, we'll gonna change that :)

Sherry is impossible to describe in words, the words simply won't do her justice, you need to meet her to understand what a great person she is. (Ok, Sherry, you owe me 500$ for that one;) Just kidding, Sherry is warm, wise, reflected and offers great conversations and company. She's also in fact a reasonably good cook and buys excellent coffe. The first memories I have about Sherry are of those interesting late night talks I shared with her and Serena in Eisenstadt last July. Then to my surprise I had the chance to meet her again a few days ago in Paris :)) CS definitely makes Europe smaller than you think!
