Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
Couch Available: Maybe Preferred Gender: Any Max Surfers Per Night: 3
Shared Sleeping Surface: No Shared Room: NoThe guest room and also the Florida Room is private and can accommodate 2 people if you choose. The living room is where the couch and air mattress can be used and that is a shared area of the house. I have a small guest room available now with a queen sized bed. In addition, I have renovated the Florida Room to have a pull out sofa and can act as a private room but the sofa bed is not as comfortable. In the living room, there is a plush leather couch that has a recliner on both sides. When needed, there is also a queen-sized blow up air mattress.
I live in Hollywood, east of I-95 near Taft Street, which is just 7-10 minutes and a cab ride of less that $20 from the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood airport (You must tell the driver to take you down RT. 1 also known as Federal Highway and NOT I-95 or the fare will be much more.) If I'm available I can pick up and drop you off but I only have a truck which can carry only one passenger and the driver unless someone rides in the back.
I have many visitors so I try to keep the CS visit up to one week long.
Fort Lauderdale is only 10 miles, about 15 minutes by car (about an 35-40 minutes by bus) from my house. I have often used my bicycle to ride back and forth which takes about 1/2 hour and is a very easy ride as long as you are careful with the traffic. I have an extra bicycle if you would like to use it. Hollywood Beach is only about 10-15 minutes by bicycle.
There is no smoking in the house but if you do wish to smoke, there is a comfortable oustide seating area for you to use.
The house is small but cozy with a single shared bathroom with an indoor shower (there is also a private outdoor shower, which I prefer to use and I highly recommend trying!) I have a comfortable, private yard for sun-bathing and socializing. Clothing is optional in and outside the house if my guest feels comfortable with that. I would not impose anything on a guest that they did not feel comfortable with.
The weather in my area is hot and humid in the summer but the house has central air conditioning. In the winter it is usually perfect weather for the beach and outdoor activities. We do experience some cool weather (40's and 50's F.) during Dec/Jan but usually very little.
I have no pets. I am allergic to cats but I would entertain a small dog if you travel with one and it is house trained or could be placed in the fenced in yard.
There are many things to do within walking distance including a variety of clubs and restaurants with diverse live entertainment on Hollywood Blvd. The beach in only a couple of miles away and has a beautiful walking/biking path. Have a drink at one of the beach clubs and bring it out onto the beach with you. Watch the full moon rise over the ocean and take a romantic stroll at nighttime or relax your mind and body. There is live entertainment on the beach on certain nights as well. There are many casinos in the area accessible by bus for those who want to try their luck at the slots, table, horse or dog tracks.
By car, there is a plethora of clubs and museums, etc. Miami has the Seaquarium with a great dolphin show. There is Butterfly World nearby as well where you can mingle with a thousand species of butterflies all around you. There is a bus station 2 blocks away.
One unusual thing we have to offer in our area is a legal clothing optional beach about a 1/2 hour away where straight and gay people comfortably share, play volleyball, etc.
I provide pillows, sheet and blanket, towels, etc. unless you prefer your own. Also, I have extra beach towels.
I have no special sleeping times but tend to be more of a night owl. I work from home on my computer so my hours are flexible.
I enjoy entertaining and look forward to meeting people from other countries and other cultures as well as other US states. I know a little French and Spanish and know a fair amount of sign language (ASL).
There is a washer and dryer available.
I look forward to hosting you and sharing in life's experiences with you.

Personal DescriptionNotes: Allergic to cats, Non-smoker, Drug-free
(See my personal description just below my "Currently:" traveling section...)
Currently: Sept 9, 2009 at 0300 hours - London has been wonderful along with our friends who hosted us Rob and David. We did so much but not time to write it all here...I'm off in the morning to catch the Ferry from Dover to Calais...really, I am just going to "wing it" and have no idea what I will do once I get there...wish me luck!
Sept 5, 2009 - Currently in UK on a six week tour of Europe! Started in Edinburgh, Scotland visiting surfer and friend Dennis Crow who was performing in the Arts Festival there. We couch surfed with Dennis for 4 days and had a great time! Then, my best friend and I went over to Blackpool, England to surf with some incredible hosts there, Gilly and David, who showed us a most excellent time in their city! I really loved Blackpool for it casinos, club life and amusement park! After 2 days in Blackpool, we spent 2 days in Manchester. Fun town, lots of clubs, but it didn't really move me as a city. Good hostel "Hatters" here and that's where I am writing this now. Today, we train over to London and stay with a friend of mine there for 4 days. I hear great things about London and we are looking forward to visiting for the first time!
As for me: I've been with CS for a while now and really love it. I've had several guest and house parties and met so many wonderful people. CS is in my blood and I can't think of a more suitable network to be part of that matches my existing personality!
For me, this site has turned into a social outlet. I enjoy finding other people that have similar interests or new interests to share and want to get together for that purpose. Sure, I have the ocassional simple, over-night guest but that isn't as rewarding. CS has so much more to offer as a community. I have a wide variety of interest and love to share these and all that my home and town have to offer. I live near the beach, a great club and music scene, have a piano, love to sing if anyone plays, love to get out and do lots of activities, bicycle, swim, hike, sports, etc. as well as have deep meaningful, conversations about life that broaden our mind and spirit. For me, I am a perpetual student and teacher in life. It is all about the balance.
I feel that I am a emotionally, spiritually and physically healthy and full of enthusiasm. I have a wanderlust to see the world and my friends call me Tumbleweed Thom. I work as a free lance consultant in the MEDITECH medical software world. Working from my laptop, I can take my work on the road with me so I bought an RV and traveled the U.S. all last year. In 2008, by best friend and I took the big plunge and traveled to Europe! We spent 6 weeks, traveled to 9 countries, practiced speaking French and Spanish, and got an amazing education along the way. We met new people, experienced different cultures, we had the good, bad and ugly all wrapped up into one giant "Bill and Thom's Excellent European Adventure."
I am honest and sincere and enjoy other people who enjoy sharing life's experiences. I grew up in a home full of love, music, open-mindedness, and the place where everyone came to have a great time and forget their worries. I praise my parents on doing a great job raising 4 children on a meager salary where my Dad worked 3 jobs and my Mom stayed home to raise the children. Even with three jobs, my Dad always found time to play the guitar or harmonica and we'd sing and dance and open up the house to visitors from all over! Like I said, I was born with CS in my blood!
I love music, singing and dancing.
I am also gay and a naturist and enjoy participating in legal, comfortable and appropriate nudist environments. I leave it up to my guest as to how comfortable they feel with this. I'm flexible. I feel comfortable around straight, gay and transgenders and simply enjoy sharing life's experiences. Almost all of my surfing guests have been straight and one had never met a gay person in his life! I love how CS can bridge the gap in cultures and minds.
My Travels:
Latest: Aug 24, 2009 - Dropped Michel, my couchsurfer from Brussels, off in Montreal, returned home and got my new mini laptop set up for the trip. Took all day! I'm currently on the bus heading to the airport and they have wi-fi on the bus! Cool. So now I can catch up on things. Edinburgh Scotland, here I come!
8/23/09 Spent the weekend with friend in OGT. Had a wonderful dinner out with Paul on Friday and then dinner with Roger and Jason at their house on Sat. Just got the RV completely unpacked and cleaned and taking her to be sold while I am away. Mom, Michel an...d I drive to Montreal today. We return on Tuesday. I fly to Europe on Wed. Just got my new mini computer up and running for the voyage! Lots to do...oh my! Where's Scooby Doo when we need him?
8/7/09 Heading this weekend to a gay campground in central Maine on my way to Baxter State Park for our hike up Mt. Katahdin next week. This is the moment we've been waiting for...
Also, looking at buying a fully self-sustaining conversion van to down-size my current RV to something more convenient for long distance travel for my work.
8/1/09 - This time Paul, Diana and I made a 10 hour, 13-mile loop over 3 major peaks, White Face Passaconoway (both "4,000+ footers") and then another peak only 2,800 or so feet. White Face had a great view but the others were tree topped. I didn't think that I would make it past the 2nd peak until I had my cup of Yerba Mate tea and then I was like the Energizer Bunny the rest of the way, singing and dancing! They were calling me "Ma-tay Boy!"
7/19/09 - Just did an 8 hour hike up Mt Chocorua in NH with two great friends. We had a blast. Now I have the hiking bug and we are planning to climb Mt. Katahdin, the highest point in ME in a couple of weeks. Until then, it is some intermediate hikes to get me in shape for this one.
5/23/09 Just arrived in Ogunquit, ME for the summer with the RV! I will be working a contracting job in the Boston area, some on site time but mostly remote work so this should be a great summer. You will find me at the Front Porch Piano Bar singing or out dancing at Maine Street Club. It is great to be back home!
5/13/09 - Packing up the RV and heading out again. This time it is to Tampa, FL to pick up my Mom who is flying in from Maine. We will then drive across country, through Canada and back to Maine by early June. I plan to stay in the RV for the summer in Maine and have work in the area. Sounds like a great summer ahead!
----------------
I just got back home from a week trip with the RV to the Burning Man localized festival called Pre-Heat in Lakeland, FL and spending the rest of the week at the Sawmill Campground outside of Tampa! What an awesome time at both places. Truly the most incredible people were there and we shared so many unbelievable experiences. Definitely a CS type of people at this event and something to keep in mind for the future.
4/17/09 - Heading to Lakeland, FL with RV to attend the Pre-Heat weekend festival, a localize Burning Man event! Hope to see some surfers there!
Feb 23rd 2009 - So happy to be home! What a great trip, but it is great to be in sunny, warm Florida again! I have several surfers lined up for the next couple of weeks, so I couldn't stay in New Orleans for the full even. I am home and hitting the ground running!
Feb 21st - Mardi Gras Weekend! I started the drive back from Lubbock, TX to Florida and it is Saturday night in New Orleans! I am meeting up with surfer Molly Thomas and we are going to paint the town tonight (hopefully.) I can't believe I got this beast of a motor home down her tiny one-way side-street in downtown New Orleans. I hope that it stays safe.
Feb 7, 2009 - I've been here in Lubbock, TX for two weeks and other than the cold, it has been a pretty cool place! Work is going well and I have been seeing a lot of interesting things here such as the Windmill Museum and enjoying the incredible musical talents of the Louie Louie's Piano Bar. The local CS group has been getting better organized and I've been helping them drum up interest and create events. I've met lots of really great people here. I hope to drive up to Palo Duro canyon near Amarillo tomorrow. Check out some of the pictures I've uploaded to my Lubbock folder on my profile. There is a lot of history here such as this being the home of Buddy Holly and last week was the 50th anniversary of "The day the music died", the words of the infamous Don McLean's "American Pie" song. Also, this is the location of pre-historic man, and there have been fossils of Wolly Mammoths found here in Lubbock Lake. For a small country town, this place is a great place to visit if you are crossing the country.
Jan 24, 2009 - Well it is time to get back on the road with my RV and trek across the country. Destination: Lubbock, TX
Reason: Work
Duration: 3 weeks
It is my big 40th birthday this weekend! Whoo hoo for me! Actually, it is a quiet, introspective, peaceful feeling. I have the time on this drive to look back over my 30's and reflect and I laugh and smile thinking "I did all that?!? Me?" LOL! The 30's have been good to me and CS has made a profound impact on the the tail end of this decade. It propels me forward into my 40's with a new outlook on life and renews my faith in people. I am looking forward to setting new goals, having a new focus, and opening a new chapter in this thing we call 'life'. My 20's were all about soul searching, experiencing, breaking boundaries, overcoming my fears, and finding myself. My 30's were all about stabalizing myself, and working on my career and quietly learning to believe in myself, even when others thought I was crazy for buying a home in Florida, leaving my stable, corporate job and moving to Florida, starting my own business, and (craziest of all...) buying an RV for my business and roaming freely across the country!
Yes, my 30's were great, and now I think I am ready to move forward and build the life that I really have always wanted. I thought that I would 'find' the right place for myself, but nothing ever quite worked for me. Now I know that happiness is not something we find, it is something we 'create'. So, let's see what the 40's have in store...watch out...here I come (or, I guess, "here I am" is more correct. LOL!)
January 2, 2009: I spent the holidays with family in Maine and will be starting the return drive to Florida with my Mom in tow. After 2 weeks of excitement in the winter weather, it is time to get home and thaw out!
October 7, 2008 - "Pancake Mania" CS party at my home was a great success thanks to my surfer Elena Ross! Wow! What a wild crazy time we all had and "Mania" was definitely the right description. Also recently, I've been working on renovating my house so that I have more room for surfers and guests. I've hosted several people since I've been home and we've had so much fun. I brought my RV back to my house for some repairs and maybe I will organize a CS roadtrip with it soon...stay tuned!
Aug 27, 2008 - HOME AT LAST!! Wow, what a trying and challenging summer. Still, there were some wonderful things that I saw and did on my summer travels across the USA. I am home for now and plan to stick around for while to recharge my batteries. I need it after this trip. I look forward to catching up with people locally and go to the next Fort Lauderdale CS meeting. For now, I have my hands full unpacking, cleaning the house and two month old yard work :( But it is great to be home!
Aug 23, 2008 I'm relaxing and soaking in the sun here in beautiful Tennessee, avoiding the drive back home to Florida due to T.S. Fay and the rain that it is dropping. Why bother rushing home when it is so beautiful here? Any CS'ers out there want to join me on an RV trip? :)
Aug 18, 2008
Mercy! Sorry for being missing in action for the last few weeks :( I bit off more than I could chew on my RV business trip this summer. It has been fraught with issues between bad brakes, fridge died, etc. and my clients have been keeping me on an exhausting treadmill leaving me little time and no energy to do anything for myself. But, the light at the end of the tunnel is ahead (and hoping that it is not a train with my luck lately...) I will be free to enjoy my travel and/or return home this weekend from my current client in Windber, PA.
I had to make the hard decision to cancel my trip across country to Burning Man :( It is just not a good idea with the gas prices, let alone how exhausting this trip has been for me. No, it hurt a lot to do it, but I just won't make it there this year.
Thanks everyone! What a year so far. Europe, then this travel...yeah I am looking forward to spending some downtime and enjoying the good things in life like CS again!
Back home for the weekend only to pack up and leave again for the summer with the RV around July 2nd!
6/4/08 Ah, Paris! What a wonderful city to finish up my first European tour. My first day was exhausting but incredible. I walked around the city for 7 hours from Notre Dame to the Eiffle Tower (including walking the stairs!) to the L'arc de Triumphe, through the gardens to the Louvre and back. Tonight is the visit inside the Louvre which is so staggeringly massive. More to come...
5/25/08 Rome! Ah! We made it to Roma Italia! We have had a great time in Rome so far. I think that our luck is changing for the better! Rome is just as amazing as it is said to be. I will try to upload some photos so far but there is simply too much to see and do. Stay tuned!
5/24/08 Florence was beautiful with the cathedrals and so much more to see and do. Our first hostel experience at Archi Rossi was amazing. We got the idea from a CS profile we read. We decided 2 nights there to try it first since it was a 4 person room. Then we switched to a hostel with a 2 person room called Hostel Harmony. What a dump! Smelled sike sewage and the TV plug didn't even fit into the wall socket. Then we had the most interesting Friday night being resued in the hotel elevator by two handsome Firemen! Well, you have to look on the bright side right?
5/22/08 We just arrived by overnight sleeper train to Florence Italy! Nice was awesome and our CS host, Erick, was the best! Updates to come...
5-19-08 My friend and I are in Barcelona. We spent 4 days in the beach town of Sitges outside of the city here and we will be in Barcelona for 2 more nights before leaving for France with our CS friend Erick.
Sitges was a beautiful town but we unfortunately had some trouble there. Our hotel room was broken into and they stole our 2 laptops, 2 cameras and my identity information. So I had to cancel all of my credit cards and ATM cards and will have to stuggle through the rest of my travels with out easy access to money or credit, access to email, etc. That hurt a lot but we are moving forward and keeping our chins up. Live and learn I guess. Sitges rained most of the time that we were there but the last day was a beautiful sunny beach day and we enjoyed that immensely. It is an easy train ride from downtown Barcelona.
We went sight-seeing yesterday around Barcelona and saw the majestic Cathederal (but couldn´t take any pictures, sorry!) and the Picasso museum and went shopping at the big market place along the Ramblas. Tonight I hope to meet up with some fellow CS-ers who are having a meeting.
Well, off and running for now. More to report later...
5-7-2008 I'm in Lagos, Portugal! Wow. Amazing but I'm sure you hear that all the time. My best friend and I arrived in Europe 5 days ago in Madrid Spain and have traveled to Malaga, Torremelinos, Seville and here so far. It has been great to finally joing the rest of the world of travelers who have already experience some of Europe. We have a long way to go on our 6 week journey!
Today was the first time I rented a car and drove in Europe. What a trip. It was definitely a new experience fraught with all the normal 'learning' experiences one would expect like not knowing that to turn left, you have to take a side street to the right to cut across to the left in Seville! Who knew? So we drove around and around trying to get to the right street. We had a laugh about it because you cannot set unrealistic expectations when experience completely new things. Take it as it comes and go with the flow.
Can't wait to upload more pictures...Stay tuned for the next step in "Bill and Thom's Excellent Adventure."
Hugs!
I just finished doing a quick tour of the U.S. in my truck traveling for work but making the weekends into CS adventures. I've stopped in Orlando and Jacksonville, FL to visit friends. I had my first CS surfing experience in Asheville, NC before heading to Knoxville, TN for the week to work. Then, I headed to Nashville, TN to visit friends for a night. From there, I headed towards my next work destination in Houston, TX stopping at several places along the way. My first stop was a beautiful town in the Ozark Mountains called Eureka Springs, AR. What an incredible place and I had an incredible CS host name Joe. I plan to return for the summer with my RV. Then, I expereienced the nightlife with a couple of CS hosts in Oklahoma City, OK who treated me to a wild night on the town. Then, it was off to Houston with a quick stop in Dallas, TX for dinner. From here, I work the week in Houston and then drive back towards Florida and who knows where I'll stop along the way! :)
My best friend and fellow CS'er Bill Linehan and I are on the adventure of our lives! We will be touring Western Europe for 6 weeks flying to and from Madrid, Spain from May 1, 2008 until June 11, 2008. Here are our route plans:

Bill and I are practicing both Spanish and French so that we can communicate better with you in your country. We look forward to becoming more fluent and speaking with you in your own language!
Please contact us if you'll be available when we come to your town! We are currently seeking hosts for two people and people who can share with us their way of life!
How I Participate in CSIn the past, I always opened my home up to friends and friends of friends. I have hosted 9 people who have relocated to the Florida area. Hosting comes naturally to me because my home growing up was always full of people, song and drink. I look forward in participating in the CS network both as a host and a surfer. There are so many wonderful things to see in the world. We all have a treasure in our our own backyard. You show me yours and I'll show you mine.
I've had good people from all walks of life (young, old, straight, gay, transgender, multi-racial, various religious or political beliefs, etc.) stay with me and I believe that they have all been comfortable here. Just because I'm gay, please don't feel uncomfortable if you're straight or a couple, etc. I'm not looking for a date :) I'm happy to share in your life experiences. I look forward to having open minded discussion that broaden my mind, body and spirit and to share ideas with others. I do not feel the need to impose upon others. I feel that too much of life is spent fighting and arguing instead of discussing. There is no 'one right way' for all people. We are as diverse as the stars themselves and we all have a light to share.CouchSurfing ExperienceI host a great deal when I am home but I travel a great deal either for work or pleasure. I have a 26 foot RV motor-home that I travel around the countryside with. I've had many great adventures alone and with couchsurfers.
I've had many CS potluck party at my house and they were all wonderful experience. See the pictures on my profile. So many wonderful people from the area and their guests from far reaches of the world were all sharing their life experiences with each other in my back yard! How amazing that is!
I've surfed a few times while traveling across country and met some of the most incredible people. I'm so grateful for all that they have shared with me and can't say enough great things about the people on this website. Keep the faith!
I love setting up a coffee shop CS meeting where ever I travel. I often don't need a host, so setting up a meeting allows me to meet a variety of people in the location I am visiting. I love playing the game "This one time...while couchsurfing..." and then each of us fills in the blank. Several times, I will call out "Picture time..couchsurfer! Couchsurfers!" and then someone who wasn't even aware of the group pipes up and yells, "Hey! I'm a couchsurfer!" and they had no idea about the group because they had just moved there or were passing through. It is so much fun to swap stories and see how connected we all are via CS.InterestsMusic, travel, martial arts, most physical activities, beaches, mountains, hiking, bicycling, site-seeing, star gazing, camping, singing, dancing, amuzement parks, horror and sci-fi/fantasy movies, long talks ranging from intellectual talks about life, love, and the state of the world to silly, funny, footloose and fancy free prattle.Philosophy"Enjoy life or work hard to change it." ~ Me

I'm a teacher and a student of many things including martial arts, music, sign language, computer programming. I enjoy intellectual conversations and sharing previous life experiences with others. There is much to learn from each other if we take the time to listen. One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneThis year, I purchased a used Motor home and drove from Maine to California, south to Arizona and back to Florida seeing Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, attended the Burning Man festive in the desert of Nevada, stayed in San Francisco and Palm Springs, CA, traveled the Grand Canyon, spent a month in Texas, stayed in New Orleans and then returned to Florida.Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectI love couchsurfing and I promote it to people at meet everywhere! I've met the most interesting and exciting people, my kind of people, from all around the world. What an amazing concept!Locations TraveledTRAVELED: Spain, United States IS GOING TO: United States References

From Cecilia Keller The Hague, Netherlands Oct 5 Positive Thom is really cool and friendly and talks very open about some things a lot of ppl wouldn't be so open about. I love that about him! Thom is also interested in what surrounds him. I really liked our conversation about the differences between The Netherlands and the US, but also the similarities :-) Thom is also a modest guy, but what he writes about a wild side that we both have is true... We also had some nice Thai soup...oh and Thom: don't forget your gunpowder!!

From roshanah Ann Arbor, United States Nov 19, 2008 Positive Thom is fantastic!!! He put my friend and I up for two days, and it was so nice. His house is amazingly comfortable, and just a 15 minute walk from hollywood blvd. He showed us around, gave us good directions, even made us breakfast one day, and threw us a potluck on the beach! His treatment spoiled us so much we didn't want to go back!! You're going to have to see his amazing heels, take a shower in his outside shower, and ride around in the back of his truck. :-) Can't wait to see you again Thom, you definitely have a place to stay if you're ever in these parts!

A truly great host, and I hope I'll have the possibility to return his hospitality one day.

From Marcel Parakkal Vienna, Austria Sep 11, 2008 Positive Without any exaggeration: unbelievable guy, unique personality, very helpful and cool (like someone from the movies).
Like he writes in his profile, he is truly open-minded (i thought i was, but he is even more), never judging anyone, always willing to help out. very clean person (always cleaning ;)), working on a dozen house projects at the same time (even now, when writing this, he is cleaning the kitchen after drinking his special tee called Yerea Mate)
He did everything possible to entertain me here, cooked, took me out to the beach and the bars, invited a friend of his, organized a couchsurfing gathering...
You possibly can't ask for a better host. I almost felt like home actually. Thanks a lot Thom! Keep in touch... and all the best for all of your projects!
From MBELA128 Hollywood, United States Sep 11, 2008 Positive Thom was welcoming and friendly. He reached out by email to connect before the event and did a great job of bringing everyone together. From Laura Cui Burlington, United States May 18, 2008 Positive Thom and I met in Barcelona during his trip around Europe. Shortly after saying hello, we realized that we're both from southern Maine! What are the chances that we'd meet halfway around the world on the coast of the Mediterranean instead of the Atlantic? We had a fantastic time chatting it up at the bar. Thom is a friendly and honest guy and I can't wait to see him again in the US!
From Leonardo Morantes Mobile, United States May 4, 2008 Positive Thom passed by Mobile on his way home from Houston. I was unable to host him, but he met me at the Starbucks where I was studying. We talked for a little over an hour and he seems to be a really nice guy. He looks much younger than he is and he's full of enegy. He changed clothes at the Starbucks and was ready to hit Mobile's nightlife. I was really busy with school or else I'd have gone partying with him.

We went out for a great dinner and great conversation, and then stopped in at couple unique bars here in OKC. There was not much going on since it was a Sunday night, but we didn’t let that ruin our fun. I’m sure we’ll see Thom again!

From Steven Liebenhaut Asheville, United States Apr 16, 2008 Positive I first met Thom at a coffee shop with first another surfer. It turned out the woman sitting next to us was a surfer too who just moved to Asheville. We then asked another customer to take a photo of us and he joined our table and was given a brief picture of just what we're about and how to join us.
Thom met me later that night for a great dinner at The Laughing Seed and then he surfed with me. I grew up in Hollywood, Fl where he lives. I'm so happy to have met him and become friends with him. I wish he could have stayed longer because I had a little brunch that Sunday and it would have been great to introduce him to other friends who would meet each other for the first time that day too. I really enjoy introducing people to each other.

From The Jolly Green Giant, Derek Wallace North Hollywood, United States Apr 9, 2008 Positive I first met Thom at a potluck he put together in his beautiful home in Hollywood, Florida. Two things that stood out to me immediately was the fact that he allowed me to cook in his kitchen (which I love doing) and that he encouraged attendees to bring photos and share travel stories or network wisdom about using the Couchsurfing system itself. Always warm and welcoming, as well as up for adventure and building community, I knew right away that Thom was not only going to make a great CS Ambassador one day, but that he was also going to someone I would call friend for a long time to come. Host him or surf with him if you can - he'll light up your life!
From DANDANN Newport, United States Apr 7, 2008 Positive I got to meet Thom at the potluck - one of the coolest people I've ever met. We had tons of fun at Haulover and Thom even convinced me to sing a little bit. WE MUST do this again. And YOU guys gotta meet him. DO IT!
Update - I got to surf with Thom a few days before his big journey and it just added to my fascinated appreciation of him. He's extremely warm, open, welcoming, interesting, entertaining.... I enjoyed talking with him and discovering the FLL Id never known before. OH, and his house is Amazing. I hope to run into him somewhere along his trip and perhaps introduce him to Athens if he passes that way. But yes, staying with Thom comes highly recommended.
From Peter Loschke Heidelberg, Germany Apr 4, 2008 Positive Thom is great! I surfed at his place for five days with two friends and it was no problem for him to host all three of us. He is that outgoing kind of person that is enjoying live a lot and he takes every opportunity to experience lives pleasures. Besides that Thom cares a lot or his guests and shares his pleasures with them. I hope I will have the time to come back to Hollywood/florida one day.
