Groups I Belong ToCouch Information Couch Available: Coffee or a drink Preferred Gender: AnyHey everyone! We're happy to have surfers at our place, but we want advanced notice and we prefer that people only crash for 2 days at a time- for longer stays at our place, all the roomies have to approve- and there are 6 (roomies). Our place is huge and lovely- big living room, outdoor patio behind the house, we live near Alamo Square, 15 minutes walk from the Civic Center, Castro, and the Mission, 5 minutes from Haight Street. It's pretty sweet. We have lots of friends who come from NYC, Denver, and Oklahoma and other places, so keep that in mind. Give us some days to reply to you, please-
Tim, Thom, Elyse, Amy, Sara, and Dekan- from number 621.

Personal Descriptioni travel as much as possible, and i love to meet people. there aren't many places i don't want to go, and or many people i wouldn't talk to. How I Participate in CSi've met probably more than 200 people on CS, i've hosted 30 maybe? and i've been hosted around the same amount. now i'm a nomadic ambassador, which means that i propose such an such ideals about hospitality and respectful treatment while facilitating myself and others to surf exotic couches. i think we should call this position, the exotic couch facilitator.CouchSurfing Experiencei have couchsurfed for months at a time in south america, and to a limited extent in europe. i've hosted people in Budapest and New York City. Interestslanguages, dancing, mariachi, literature, film, italian fashion, ninjas, cities, yoga, brazilian music, art from anywhere, the beach, the mountains, snowboarding, painting, photography, philosophy, kisses, asian poetry, india, literature, south america, south american literature, politics, portugues, español, arabic, warm weather, did i mention dancing? Philosophylife is an exquisite mirage we laugh and cry about. i anticipate doing both plenty. i don't know who exactly i am yet, but i suspect i am part of the all that cannot be named. i rest in the vibrant vision of that which we might become. i want to express that vision.
why not enjoy. never wait for. Music, Movies, Bookspulp fiction, amelie, fellini movies, jean-luc godard, funny movies, books by gabriel garcia marquez, italo calvino, knut hamsun, nietzsche, fellini, kurosawa, fransisco de goya, henry miller, latin american poets, latin music, mariache, cuban, salsa, classical music, acid jazz, political manifestos, art manifestos, manifestos in general. Types of People I enjoyAll kinds of people. People who believe in things. Teach, Learn, Sharei have met thousands of people in the last five years, during which i have traveled in 30 countries. it gives me the dickens, when i start thinking about all the people i've met and the experiences and ideas they have shared with me- and then i'm like, damn i gotta get out there and learn more, we people have things to talk about, there are conversations to be had! if you have ideas, are polyglot, artistic, cultured, above all curious, contact me. One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Donei've seen ankor wat, one of the wonders of the world, and i worked on a marijuana plantation once in switzerland- i thought that was amazing, at the time. a friend and i hitchhiked 2000 km in argentina, that was fun. i recently sang a mariachi song at a posh wedding in colombia and all the guests went crazy over it, maybe that was the most amazing experience. there are too many things to list, because it's not hard to amaze me. Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectCS has been very useful to me. getting a couch has not always been so terribly easy; more beneficial for me has been the information i got from locals i met up with for a night out on the town, the places we went to that i wouldn't have found on my own- and when those nice people offered to help me when i without money or lodging. nowadays i'm a bit, only a bit- more put together, in terms of my living situation- so i can to host people. From David Davis Brooklyn, United States Oct 24 Positive I've known Tim for several years.
We met in Brooklyn and when in the SF Bay Area, we would meet up and hike in Redwood Park etc.
He came to some of my music gigs and I hung at his pad in the city. Good guy and very friendly.
Also, he is great at languages and he has a gift.
Tim Tolka is an A1 fellow.
From Grant Leibowitz Denver, United States Oct 15 Positive Tim is a lot of fun and quite the character. I would gladly host him any time. An adventerous spirit for sure.
From Cindy Leitner Vienna, Austria Jul 27 Positive i just realized i never left a refernce to tim. now, one year after we met in NYC in a bar downtown i still think of this open, smart and fun guy who invited me and my friends to this great party in this amazing building in brooklyn. hope you are doing well.
From Elisa Rugarcia New York, United States Jul 16 Positive What can I say about Tim that is not already said (and done)? Whatever I can tell you about him it won't be enough. But to describe him in just a few words: fun, cool, smart, crazy, interesting, nice...and did I mention fun?? He is the kind of guy that everybody knows, in NY or in China (well, maybe not, but close). So if you ever have the chance to meet him I'm sure it would be something you will remember forever, trust me.
From Shannon Romano San Francisco, United States Mar 13 Positive Tim is part of my stationary CS community here in San Francisco, another wonderful local I met through a traveler. I'm always so happy to see his smile.
From TANKGIRL77` Chicago, United States Feb 21 Positive Che Tim!

Besos,
Viviana
From Jason Dada Seattle, United States Feb 3 Positive I hung out with Tim at a show in SF, the next day he was kind enough to give me a place to rest for a few hours after I'd been walking all over the city. Tim is really chill and I felt like I learned a lot from him just talking and exchanging ideas. Great meeting you Tim!
From Oriana Seccia Buenos Aires, Argentina Jan 15 Positive tim is an amazing person to run into! he is really funny, generous and interesting to talk to... we had some bizarre conversations on literature, but we also went to see punk bands, and drinking in cool secret spots around the city! THANKS! and his friends are also really cool.. me saco el sombrero ante este embajador!
From Matt Warner Longmont, United States Dec 1, 2008 Positive Tim is the best way to improve ones social life. He has magic about him that allows you to meet everyone cool possible. We lived together in Mexico and hang in NYC whenever possible. All have been great experiences.
From Dianna Wilson Brooklyn, United States Oct 24, 2008 Tim speaks really good spanish. It was fun to practice speaking with him and wear a sombrero.
From Alexander Ricardo Húez Yànch Manhattan, United States Oct 20, 2008 Positive I met Tim while hearing him have an Italian lesson at a café. Speaks Spanish and Portuguese almost as much as english so I hope I can pick some of it up now that I live with him. Funny as hell and good to give you a smile. Oh yeah, he writes like Thomas Jefferson.
From LEOVER AND BERNADETTE Brisbane, Australia Sep 3, 2008 Positive Timmo Tolka... is a legend we stayed with our friends Deke & Sara in San Fran on route to Vegas and he was very open to us staying.. A true surfer himself, wish we stayed longer and chill out more with you guys in the Bay Area... Will see you guys soon.. AWESOME night...thanks
From Jeanette Weinberg Buenos Aires, Argentina Aug 25, 2008 Positive Tim is a blast. He laughs hard and laughs often, and you always want to laugh with him. He throws and catches a great party with equal dexterity. And he knows a lot of stuff about lots of stuff.
From Andrew Bowles Brooklyn, United States Aug 10, 2008 Positive Tim is one of the most fun people I have the pleasure of calling friend. He has a curious way of bringing groups of quality people together and creating adventures from the most banal situations. He is a true character whom I would advise anyone to spend an afternoon or a week with.
From Elana Orenbuch Brooklyn, United States Aug 8, 2008 Positive Tim is a really fun well versed linguistically capable wonderful specimen of a CSer! Thank you for having us at your party and hopefully we shall meet again, under more personable circumstances! Enjoy Frisco!
From Mache Kotta Brooklyn, United States Aug 4, 2008 Positive Tim is a wizard of debauchery and fun and you will eventually encounter him at some point in your life's journey. When this happens be prepared to find yourself thrashing in a vortex of simultaneous confusion and ecstasy. Enchanted by his crazy antics, fancy pants, bewitching eyes, good taste and delightful shenanigans, you will quickly realize that resisting his alluring charm, wit and humor is completely futile. As his gyrating hips and shining aura lure you to the dancefloor, just let go and allow yourself to be subdued by his sorcery to live and enjoy life.
From Gretchen Heuberger Boulder, United States Aug 2, 2008 Positive Tim is in love with life and in love with love AND it is totally infectious. He can pull fun out of thin air and is truly the best company. I recommend lubing him up with a bottle of wine for maximum results.
From Vanessa Rodriguez New York, United States Jul 14, 2008 Positive Your belly will hurt from laughter in the presence of this man. He can engage any wallflower in conversation and there is not a time that I have ever seen him that he is not smiling. Tim Tolka is Terrific...

From Klara Wengman Copenhagen, Denmark Jun 16, 2008 Positive tim hosted me in his place in redhook when i had only been in NYC for a few days. he and his roommate found the time to host even though they are both busy and i wrote them with very short notice. tim made me feel like part of the city taking me out meeting his friends. he helped me in my search for an apartment and introduced me to a bunch of nice people.
From Christina Jorro Aspen, United States Jun 4, 2008 Positive Tim is nutty just as he is fun and smart. Quick on his feet and with moves to awe any lady, how can you not enjoy his vivacious presence?
From Hernan Giraudo Buenos Aires, Argentina Mar 30, 2008 Positive Tim saved me from sleeping in the train station! He is the kind of guys that make CSing work! He has a kind roommate and a very friendly cat also ...
Thanks again Tim ! Hope to see you again
From MISSCHRIS Tokyo, Japan Mar 24, 2008 Positive Tim is a great cool guy. Thanks to him I could see many faces of New York.
From Joseph Roccasalvo New York, United States Feb 9, 2008 Positive Tim is a typical Fire sign. He burns with a prodigious flame. I kept from being singed because, a Fire sign myself (Sagittarius), his intensity fed my own. And so it went during our conversations: his turn, then mine, at incandescing. My one piece of advice for him and for myself--what I learned from Buddhist monks--is to "pull in one's fires." Otherwise, it's rampant, dispersed energy with no purpose and no focus. Tim is in the processs. So be alert: his heat is on.
From Frederic Pointeau Cape Town, South Africa Jan 30, 2008 Positive I met Tim thanks to a guest and I was admirably smitten by his open outspokeness. I hadn't the chance to stay with him a long time but I'm convinced he has a lot of interesting thoughts and stories in his head so it would really be a pleasure to see him again!
From Masha Smirnova Vienna, Austria Jan 28, 2008 Positive Tim is an extremely well traveled, openminded, smart and fun guy with strong opinions and lots of interesting stories to tell.the kind of couchsurfer you want to meet!
met Tim again in Barcelona and it was yet again loads of fun hearing about his adventures and hanging out with him and his wonderful friends. oh and he also saved my purse from being stolen in the metro!
From Irene Moreno Palma de Mallorca, Spain Jan 19, 2008 Positive Tim is such an interesting guy! Just with his travel stories one could spend days and nights without feeling bored a single second. Very proud to be part of your life road!
From Inés Giménez Barcelona, Spain Jan 17, 2008 Positive Tiiim!!! I haven't ever met a person crazier than him! As I told him, when I say "crazy" this means sooo good! You never know where he's living because the world is his house and in my opinion his most favourite hobby is to enjoy people and experiences! Am I right Tim?? When I was in New York living for a while he took care of me, introducing me his friends (even when he wasn't there) and he also showed me really nice places in the city! Awesome, huh?? He's a great guy with a lot of interesting things to share with his friends!
From Samantha lowe Oneida, United States Dec 5, 2007 Positive hey guys tim is my baby boy and i like him very much i cant wait to meet him in person and he is a really great friend and person may god be with him trough all his traveling and keep him safe he is an awesome guy much love samantha leann
From MAHYAR Aas, Norway Nov 30, 2007 Positive Tim is very well educated, well read and well travelled and really nice to be around. this guy has a heart of gold
From MARY MARY Accra, Ghana Nov 29, 2007 Positive haha. When you get to a new city contact Tim. He probably knows more about the city than people from there, including all the really interesting things to see like the garbage city and weddings. This guy doesn't use a guidebook either! A real traveller if there ever was one. Single woman will feel comfortable with him too...
From Sara Henderson Asheville, United States Nov 29, 2007 Positive Careful! Tim may just lead you into a strange dark alley in Cairo with a bunch of boisterous Egyptians and then sheesha you into a near coma. But he will laugh at your jokes and use the word "mustachioed" and therefore is an acceptable human being and fun character to be around.
From Eniko Kulcsar Vajda Budapest, Hungary Nov 11, 2007 Positive i don' t know him well because we just had a few talks in Budapest bars, but he seems to be an open, kind and enthousiastic person to me. someone u want to know more about!
(AND THANK U for introducing me to couchsurfing)
From Carl Eric Vienna, Austria Nov 3, 2007 Positive Tim is a very enlightened gentleman. We had a lovely discussion one evening. He is very well read and also has plenty of tales of his own. Generally Tim seems like a thoughtful person. Keep at it.
From Roberta Tavares Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Nov 1, 2007 Positive Describing Tim isn’t a easy task.I could say traveler, gypsy or maybe a curious. Here my favorite one is: a world searcher. He doesn’t stop.”Don’t stop” doesn’t mean instability. The truth is: Tim is thirsty of LIFE.He just needs one bag to move, but he can’t survive without trades, stimullus to reach the new,the challenge to eliminate the limits:the frontiers, languages, cultures. The diferences are his oxygen. He’s not of the world.he belongs to the best that the world can offer.Like i wrote before,I can’t describe him very well, but i know a man who gave us a guide to understand him a little bit. His name: Italo Calvino. The guide : “The invisible cities”
From Ryan McCloskey West Chester, United States Oct 29, 2007 Positive What can you say about this guy, madman and a saint, old-time vagabond of the grandest proportion a lover and creater of beautiful things. Artist.

From Eyal Farhi Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel Oct 20, 2007 Positive Tim came to Israel and we had crazy time cruzing israel! tyou gotta comeback boddy...
Tim was my first couchsurfer!...
From Sivia Kahn Brooklyn, United States Oct 13, 2007 Positive well we only talked for a few minutes but in just those few minutes we were already making plans (or at least i was and he wasnt objecting;) for when I'm couchsurfing at his future place in Cairo!!! that should pretty much sum up what kind of guy he is.
From Kimber Heitner Chandler, United States Sep 26, 2007 Positive tim was an awesome host! such a good time!! very nice guy!
From Tiffany Halbritter Darmstadt, Germany Sep 25, 2007 Positive great conversations...id loved to stay at his flat with all these people from all over the world
maybe there is no hot shower:) but therefor you get tmis homemade breakfast!
From Johannes Grassler Berlin, Germany Sep 20, 2007 Positive Tim helped me out with a place to stay although I called him on extremely short notice because I hadn't found a place to stay, yet. He's a seasoned hitchhiker and traveler himself and happy to tell a bootload of stories about his travels. He's a great host who'd give you the shirt off his back (well, actually it was out of his wardrobe, but he lent me his red shirt so I didn't have to wear all black when we hit the pubs one night). I had a great time hanging out with him and his friends in Budapest!
From LANDART Potchefstroom, South Africa Sep 17, 2007 Positive Great guy who hosted us a few nights in Budapest in his appartement, crowded by matresses..:)
So nice and even more sympathic every day I stayed there!
Would like to meet him again one day, totally unexpected, f.ex. somewhere in Africa or Russia;) for a good conversation, mh?
From Benoit Schneider Paris, France Sep 6, 2007 Positive Tim is a very cool guy, i just had is phone number when i arrived in Budapest with a friend, he answered to our messages, proposed to meet in the evening, we had a great time going to pubs we would have never discovered without him and meeting people.

From Maria Stern New York, United States Aug 27, 2007 Positive He very kindly hosted my friend and I on last minute notice in Budapest. Was very hospitable with us making sure we had plenty to eat and drink and introduced us to a bunch of other couchsurfers. I laughed a lot at his funny stories. Unfortunately he had to fly off to New York the day after we met but the time we spent together was good. Thanks
From Marianne Király Utrecht, Netherlands Aug 24, 2007 Positive Tim is a really cool guy. Great couchsurfer, good company and interesting stories! We actually have the same mission: he started writing a book and I'm planning to write a bestseller at some point in the future! Have a good trip home and get back to BP asap!
From Joshua Edelmayer Oceanside, United States Aug 24, 2007 Positive Interesting dude. Really friendly and helpfull. Offered to help me out with some dirty cops that need thier name put out on the air.
From Kay Abano Barcelona, Spain Aug 23, 2007 Positive I had unwittingly come to Budapest at the perfect time-- summer festivities, Hungarian independence day, and Tim Tolka´s birthday!=D We partied till sunrise by the Danube and discovered the coolest underground bars of Budapest...But beyond parties, Tim was a real blast and wonderful to talk to. A generous man with an open mind. Try to catch him wherever he is, you surely won´t regret spending time with him.
From COVERBOY Zurich, Switzerland Aug 23, 2007 Positive Tim is cool! He is one of those with whom u can talk about everything! I enjoyed meeting him and his friends during my short visit to New York. Tim you are welcome to be my guest here in London any time!!!

Full of awesome stories to share, and tips. Plus that extra set of keys really freed us up.
Thanks a bunch!
If you find yourself in LA, me casa es su casa.
(3 rides and 8 hours later we made it to Vienna!!! it was fun)
From WETOO Budapest, Hungary Aug 17, 2007 Positive Unbelievable person, open for everyone and everything. Easily learns languages, even our hungarian which told to be not the easiest type. Introduced me and my friends to some great places of NY nightlife. Extremely flexible, and positive, lots of fun to be with, never stops smiling!!! (How do U do this?)
From Ivan and Sofia romero Uppsala, Sweden Aug 12, 2007 Negative we meet him and he's seemed to be a nice guy. but in the end of the evening tim and his friends forgot (?) us outside in a rainy nigth. :(
we hope this was a accident, and for sure tim is a great person, but for us couchsurfing with tim was a big disapointment.

ivan and sofia
From John King Tbilisi, Georgia Aug 9, 2007 Positive Yeah Tim is basically what's up, travel maniac, hitchhike king... watch out for his stories, they're clever. I'll be looking out for your novel --
From Marcus Ågren Copenhagen, Denmark Jul 1, 2007 Positive Brooklyn fever. Meet Tim first in a short visit in NY, and then I surfed his couch for many a night. Really great guy with a big heart and good sense of humor!

From brandy michelle New York, United States Apr 30, 2007 Positive Tim is great! I'm new to CS2, so when I went to my first meeting I didn't know anyone, but Tim made me feel right at home. Very friendly and knows alot about how to travel smart and fearlessly!
From Mike Lawson Toulouse, France Apr 23, 2007 Positive Met Tim during the fallas festival in Valencia and got on great. Tim has the unique ability to get on with anyone and anything. And he stopped me from freezing to death which makes him a sort of super hero in my books
From Genevieve Painchaud Guerard Trois-Rivieres, Canada Apr 2, 2007 Positive After some emails we finally met in a restaurant in Valencia with other friends... But after like half an hour I got robbed and had to go to cancel my cards and all that stuff so we didn't have time to talk more. :( But I got a very good first impression about this guy and I really hope to meet him again in New York which is not too far from Montreal... Hasta luego!
From Lauren Milam Dubuque, United States Mar 30, 2007 Positive All fun and giggles. Super tour guide!
From Jacob Pritchard Brooklyn, United States Mar 23, 2007 Positive Tim rocks. We met in Mexico, went to school together in Colorado, ended up living in New York, and have had some extended adventures in Latin America... and surely there will be more to come. The guys got a million great stories and he is a model couch surfer.
From Daniel Greene Kansas City, United States Mar 14, 2007 Positive tim is one of those epic personalities you run into every now and then, with a wicked ability to make freinds and learn languages. charismatic to the maximus for sure
From Matthew Collison Brooklyn, United States Feb 5, 2007 Positive Tim Tolka is a man of myth. While most take the subway from Brookyn to Manhattan, Tim simply leaps over the east river or if he's feely saucy sucks up the entire body of water in one big swallow, walks across, then releases the water back into the riverbed, the fish, barges and Jimmy Hoffa's body unharmed.
From Samantha Cook New York, United States Jan 22, 2007 Positive Tim is a great guy and I hope we meet again!
From Kristin Wardian Brooklyn, United States Jan 20, 2007 Positive Couchsurfed at Tim's place in Brooklyn with my friend Kim. We had an amazing time and Tim was a great host! He showed us cool places to hang out and introduced us to lots of new people.
From Geof Lambert Gold River, United States Jan 19, 2007 Positive CS meeting New York, January
From Adrian Manzano New York, United States Jan 18, 2007 Positive funny guy
From Maia Jose New York, United States Jan 18, 2007 Positive Despite what Tim wrote in his reference, I found him to be a very interesting and exciting individual (I just think Wall Street is boring). He made my first couch surfing experience an extremely pleasant one and I look forward to our next nyc meeting so we can have more scintillating conversations.
From Yogev Keidar Kfar Saba, Israel Jan 18, 2007 Positive tim is a cool guy, makes everybody lough... definitely call me when u'll get to israel...
From Stefan Berlin, Germany Jan 18, 2007 Positive We met on CS meetings, Tim is a very enthousiastic member, with loads of funny travel and other stories.
From Benjamin Bombard Salt Lake City, United States Jan 4, 2007 Positive Tim was my first couchsurf friend and he deserves glowing, enthusiastic reviews accompanied by two upturned thumbs of approval. Hey, Tim, remember the cabbie we talked to who had appeared in a number of porn movies? The Asian kids at the pizza joint who were starting a band?
From Beatriz M S Abreu Brasilia, Brazil Nov 26, 2006 Positive He invited me to this "traditional" thanksgiving dinner at his friend's house. Great friends, great food, great music, great wine :)
From JESS ICA New York, United States Nov 19, 2006 Positive Tim was an amazing host.
He's got great travel stories and was soo welcoming and great at communicating (via texts/emails, etc...) what can i say...i'm a chronic texter :)
He's a lot of fun, and made things so easy (really comfy bed to crash and an extra set of keys to get back into the apt.).....
You can totally trust this dude.
Rock on Tim.
From Lukas Kampfmann Berlin, Germany Nov 5, 2006 Positive Smart real estate broker by day and party animal by night, veteran traveller Tim Tolka is more than just a couchsurfing host, but quickly became a friend. He knows his city and made sure I had an excellent time, taking me to the hippest parties I've ever been to and introducing me to beautiful women and cool guys alike. Tim is as laid back as it gets, down to earth, cool, polite and helpful and has a ton of crazy stories to tell. Staying with him in NYC was the best possible accomodation I possibly could have gotten. Thanks Bro!
