Tom Rooney

 

So far met for drinks in Portland, and Tom talked me down outta a stressful travel moment. Hope to get to spend more time with this friend in the future. It has been a pleasure talking to you in person and on the phone so far, but I think perhaps some travelling or visitng of the east coast is on order for you! Hope to see you someday again!

Even though Tom was my first surfing experience, I'm convinced he's the best! He's a super nice guy who made my time in Portland (and there abouts) a highlight of my year-long trek. And he does great window!

 

Tom is a friendly and fun guy and a dedicated member of the Portland CouchSurfing community. I had a great time surfing with him and Sadie. I'm very grateful for the car tour of Portland, our trip to the Farmer's Market and our great conversations!

 

A funny one

 

I had a great time not only touring Philadelphia with Tom but also meeting for breakfast and later in the day a few beers. He's a great conversationalist and brims with travel and Couchsurfing stories. I hope to meet up with him again someday on the west coast!

Tom - is a STUD. What else can I say. Hilarious guy with a great sense of humor. Generous, fun, and very up for anything! Adorable dog named Sadie too. Look out ladies.. he's a catch :)

I met Tom while in Portland and he was a great tour guide and friend. Yes, The Dalles were amazing, haha. He truly loves the city and is generous with his knowledge and his time. If you want a fun time in Portland, definitely get in touch with Tom :-)

 

Tom is very welcoming and I felt comfortable with him immediately. It was like we were old friends within the first couple hours of meeting each other. He's a lot of fun and an amazing cook.

 

I met tom at a potluck, and had a great time playing silly board games with him, then the next day he was sweet enough to include me on a family outing hunting mushrooms! so kind and inclusive, i really had a great time.

 

Just a barrel of monkeys this man is. So much energy and enthusiasm! He always brightens every party he finally shows up at!

 

Good golly! Fun is to be had with with Mr. Rooney. We have had nothing but good times with him. Quite quick and quite witty, but don't ask him about his mullet.

Tom always seems to be able to put me in a positive state of mind. He also has great taste in food.

Tom Rooney is a gregarious goon. Lots of fun to be around, he's a great conversationalist with a quick wit (bonus points for people like Tom who make me laugh at least twice a minute). He has a way of putting others at ease, and makes everyone feel welcome. Tom and I hit it off right away, and I can't wait to pick up our (good-natured) barb-trading right where we left off.

 

Sean had the pleasure of meeting this fun fellow this event. Now both of us are looking forward to a trip up to Portland to hang out with this lovely conversationalist and worth the coffee only status to hang with him again.

Tom's fun to be around. He plays bocce and takes a lot of photographs. He buys people thoughtful gifts. I've enjoyed my conversations with him. He's enrolled in a class I teach called "Portland Brewpubs 101". He appears to be an eager student. He's an excellent driver. He's got a cool pad in the heart of the city. It's got an old-school switchboard that you have to plug the wire in to ring him up, so he can buzz you in. I consider myself lucky to have gotten buzzed in by Tom.

 

Simply stated, Tom's great. He's got a great, fun-loving sense of humor, and is not afraid to get silly if the occasion calls for it. He's also the kind of stand-up, get out there guy who will not only easily travel more than an hour for a meetup, but will go out of his way to invite people along with him. I look forward to building a friendship with this guy, and Portland it VERY LUCKY to have him here with us!

Very good experience. It was as if we had known each other for a very long time.

I've decided I actually DO love Portland. I've got the teeshirt to prove it.
Tom has proven to be an articulate, balanced fellow who genuinely wishes to strengthen the CS community and his environment. I am thankful for his Ambassador insight; thankfully he has made himself available to me for my Amb queries.
We finally met at a silly dessert party in matching I Love PDX / Salem teeshirts, and I'm looking forward to meeting again!

 

I met Tom at the Konditorei cake shop in Salem at Rose's tie social. He was an all around good guy who was friendly, amiable and interesting as he had one of the more obscure "fun facts" that everyone had to provide. Tom was a social enabler by his participation making conversations with the group seamless and fun.

 

Tom is totally swell dude!

He showed up to one of our moustache parties totally ready to go and provided hours of entertainment. He even provided clothes for the needy and the bocce balls with which we ended the night in the park sometime after 1 in the morning. It has been a great friendship ever since...

He was fantastic to hang around with and his friend Debra was fun as well. I was looking forward to seeing the both of them dance (Tom especially... tehehe) but I guess food coma got in the way. Maybe some other time but great fun person to chill with.

Tom pretty much got the Phoenix CS group up and going. As much as they're going to miss him, I can't wait to see what he does with Portland!

I had a wonderful and interesting time in my first couchsurfing experience. Tom is a very sweet guy and had been so helpful while I was in Phoenix. Thank you so much Tom, and I will be waiting for you show up in Brazil very soon!

 

Tom came to my rescue and gave me a place to stay within a week's notice! He was not only helpful and concerned about my arrival and stay, but he went out of his way to help me with the things I was working on during my trip. He's an easy-going guy and a great laid-back host! I can see why he is a CS ambassador - he's a natural!

I met Tom at a local CouchSurfing party, and spent time laughing with him around a campfire. He is definitely a very welcoming person and fun to be around -- and has a lot of friends and contacts in the CS community.

Actually, Tom is the responsible for one of the most amazing trips of my life, and in the end we didn't have enough time to enjoy eachother! unf... Well, but those for days were awesome and I could feel clearly the nice and funny way yours!

Hey, Tom is a cool dude and his stories about his grandmother the miner. I really enjoyed hanging out with him and getting to know him. He is a really decent dude.

Boooo. Tom sucks ;p Just kidding of course. Tom was a great host. It was a very busy time for him, as he was hosting 2 other people and we were in the midst of the CS Grand Canyon Trip, but he made sure I got to see the area and that I wasn't hungry or for want of anything. Tom was one of the drivers so he didn't get as much sleep as the rest of us, but he was a trooper. Never complaining and always smiling.

Oh and I can't promise lobster or crab. That depends on the season and availabilty, but I can certainly find some traditional Newfie food for you to try.

 

Tom is a great guy with such a contagious grin! If you get the chance to hang out with him I guarantee you’ll have some fun laughs!!

 

tom's ready smile was the first to greet me @ hualapai hilltop. i watched him making sure everyone in our large camping group was included & having fun. and he made me laugh!

Tom is a great guide for Arizona. His attitude is very positive and this makes you feel very welcome and well cared-for as a traveler with Tom.

Tom was a mover and shaker in the Phoenix community, and I enjoyed getting to know him on an incomparable trip (yeah, Havasupai, baby!). Now that he's in Portland helping to keep it weird, I'm sure we'll have plenty of opportunities to hang out and discover more of each other's oddities. :~)

Tom is a lot of fun - super easy going and great to hang around. We met on the Grand Canyon Havasupai trip and had a blast!

 

I was totally sold when he did the "zoolander" with his cute little cowboy hat, in the parking lot before descending into the canyon!

tom and i met at the monthly phoenix potluck on my second day in the city. he's a great guy, super energetic and involved, and an awesome person to party with at local dive bars too - esp. those that serve dollar PBRs!! love it! thanks for all the good times and hilarious pics :)

Tom is an intellectual who is not overbaring in conversation. He always has a respectable perspective to share and he contributes a lot to the couch surfing scene. I concider him to be one of the coolest people, by far, that I have met through cs

 

Tom pretty much rocks! I can't imagine anyone not liking him. He went from a complete stranger to a friend that celebrated my birthday with me for 3 days straight. ;) Absolutely an awesome, genuine guy.

 

I met Tom at the Phoenix pot luck in April. Tom is a great guy and full of laughs. He is a prominate CS'r here in Phoenix and I look forward to more gatherings with Tom. Ill have to tell you my Jeppe story Tom...

 

I like talking with Tom because he enjoys laughing, he's engaging, and sincere.

Great guy that knows how to make you feel welcome and a part of whatever is going on. He is one of those guys you are happy to know!

My boyfriend and I went mountain biking in Phoenix and have been host by Tom for a few nights. He's a perfect host, make coffee in morning, like to share meals, hang out. I hope everyone who's goiing in Phoenix meet Tom. He's great!! Thanks Tom.

Tom is a complex and sensitive guy. I admire his focus and ambition to start up his own business. He has a nice room-mate and nice dog. When I left I didn't want to go, and I'd stay again.

I must be the 3,458th person who will leave Tom a reference. However, I feel rather fulfilled that I had the fortune of meeting him and Jared. Two excellent guys living in an excellent city (free Internet at the airport, I mean...). I will definitely plan a trip back to Phoenix and hang out for longer!

Tom (and his roommate Jared) is the greatest. Really. I couldn't have asked for a nicer, more fun host. He makes a person feel at home immediately, and knows how to have a good time. Not to mention his dog is a great cuddle buddy and the big squishy blob chair makes a nice bed. Highly recommended. Thanks TOM!!!

 

I have met Tom at more than a few Phoenix group meetings and have always found him cool to hang out with. He is a active memeber in the Phoenix area and always willing to do his part. I look forward to hanging with him more.

In the last year Tom and I have humg out probably 30 times and I always enjoy being around him, he has become like a brother and just a true friend in so many ways. I will be bummed when he moves from Phoenix, but I know it will just give me one more place to go surf and visit friends.

 

Tom is a rockstar nice guy. He is always a pleasure to be around and has a huge infectious smile on his face. If you can meet this man, you should jump at the chance!

 

Tom was just the greatest guy you could imagine to stay with. He's both funny and well reflected and hangs out with some really cool people.
If I will ever meet Tom again? I really hope so!

I could tell Tom was a good guy before I even met him. It took him all of about 15 minutes to return my last-ditch email asking for a place during the Super Bowl, and, although his place was pretty full, he made it clear that I was welcome if necessary. The following night, I actually got to hang out with him a bit, and he was every bit the affable and likable guy I expected him to be.

Tom's game for any ludacris adventure which is a key ingredient in the recipe of fun. Do I sound lame? Let me put it this way: Tom's cool; Cook dinner for him and say it's from me. Tom, xoxo

Tom is simply awesome. We got to know one another at the PHX santarchy event and he is an extremely genuine, interesting, and fun person- who can easily bring a smile to your face.

Tom's a terrific guy and host. I enjoyed getting to know him and look forward to keeping in touch.

 

Tom is down to earth and immediately likeable! We hit it off so well that we headed to Spain together and sailed around Mallorca. He's one of those people that you know you can trust right from the start! I can't wait for our next adventure together.

 

Tom sent me an E-mail invite to join the Phoenix GROUP in 2006 and I am glad that he did. Tom has left me with a favorable opinion of him and respect highly the work he has done for the CS group to be this successful. He is an asset to the CS project! Our dogs also had a chance to smell each others butt. He is someone not to be missed at future events.

 

Tom is the Godfather of the CS Phoenix group, keeping the project active while promoting the "do-aucracy." Confused? Drop him a line; then listen and learn. A true friendship has developed. Everytime I'm in Phoenix I like to drop him a line.

Tom was a wonderful host! I had a great time chilling out with Tom and his adorable dog Sadie. My schedule was a bit hectic so unfortunately I didn't get to hang out as much as I'd like, but Tom lives close by in the Phoenix area so I'm optimistic we'll cross paths again, hopefully at CS event!

Tom was a terrific person to have as my first "real" couchsurfing experience! He's easy-going, open, and very easy to talk to about pretty much anything. I felt very comfortable and relaxed in his home and really enjoyed relaxing there (watching tv, running errands, eating... normal-person things you miss when on the road for so long...) I highly recommend couchsurfing with Tom - and I can't forget to mention his border-collie Sadie - she's adorable!

Tom is a very open and generous person. He came to pick me up and take me back to airport twice.
We had a private joke about barbecued steak and he ended up buying a barbecue just so we would have our steak ! We talked about lots of things serious or not and he took the time to drive me around Phoenix so I could know more about the city.
I adore his dog Seide who can play forever with you. I hope Tom and I would meet again soon.

 

I remember Tom being a very funny and nice guy. Very polite and kind.

 

Tom rocks in every possible way!!!! From the first moment I met him I felt like he was family (because he did something that apparently runs in the family!!!). I had such a great time at his place and since he was working from home we got to spend a lot of time together. Watching a ton of movies and lots of laughter, spelunking and tubing on the salt river :D I really hope I get to see him again soon !!! This gentleman knows a TON about Phoenix. If you're travelling to the area, he's the guy you want to take you out (that is, if my roommate and I aren't available).

Tom welcomed me to the Phoenix group and readily invited me to join in their activities. I met up with Tom and several other CS'ers for a fun night out in the city. I know that I will continue to participate in activities with the group. Tom is a good resource regarding CS'ers in our state.

Tom has a since of humor I can appreciate. It always surprises me how much fun we have laughing at each other, not to mention a great ambassador.

 

Tom has done a great job creating & running the Phoenix-Metro group. He plans & organizes many great activities to involve & support the local CS community. He is super friendly, outgoing, & easy to talk to. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Tom much more the past few months. We've traveled together, hung out and never seem to lack for conversation! Tom is a great promoter for CS and always willing to guide new users. If you get a chance to surf with Tom, you will have fun and learn lots! If you're in town, check out the local groups and attend one of our gatherings!

I met Tom initially at a CS event. Tom is easy going and we got along right away. The camping trip to the peppersauce caves was a blast as well. I would easily hang with Tom on any trip.

Tom was a really great host. We got to meet a bunch of other surfers at the Art Walk in Phx with him....and Matt and I got to eat our first dish of yummy Indian food in his company. Nice clean place to stay, great company - definitely recommend if you are headed to Phx area. Hope to stay with on a follow up trip sometime.

Tom is a charming person, who was so kind as to host us in his (and his dog's :D) beautiful posh ;) condo in Phoenix. We'll never forget that wonderful meal in a Hawaiian restaurant and splendid fun in his pool :D

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom in a bar named sugardaddy,discussing the merits of a happy ending massage and then again at a bbq he hosted with the rest of the cs crew and him showing me the 2nd grand canyon in Arizona.I wish we had more time to spend together but his family was in town.Oh well maybe next time???

It s a pity that I met Tom om my last week in Phoenix, because he seems like a totally nice guy and I would have loved to hang out more!

Tom is a wonderful person with a great sense of humor. He first contacted me when visiting Portland last fall. We hang out whenever we can now. He is bright and a lot of fun to be around.

Ryan Tapscott, told me about the couchsurfing meetup in Phoenix and I should meet Tom as well as many others, it was a fun night, hope to do it again

 

Tom is sincere, witty and a fantastically fun person to hang out with. We have continued to hang out at CS events and on our own and I definately call him a close friend.

 

We had tons of fun laughing all morning. I felt very comfortable with him right off the bat! What a cool guy with a contagious laugh. :)

 

We met with Tom for coffee to introduced ourselves to the CS community here in Phx. Coffee turned into dinner turned into a 4 hour night out with a good guy. Tom represents the concept of CS very well : great attitude, loves travel, open-minded, talkative and interesting.

Tom showed us a part of the city that we had never seen and took us to a great restaurant that we would never have found without him! He is a really nice guy and it was a pleasure to host him

Tom although in Valencia only a few days managed to become more of a local than us mostly through his uncanny ability to talk to anyone and get the inside tips. He´s a great guy who was a pleasure to host, very open and easy going.

 

Tom is organizing events for the Phoenix couchsurfers, so we can share our experiences and get to know each other. I think what he's doing is awsome and that we will have a strong network of friends. Tom rocks!

Unfortunately, I only got to meet Tom briefly but he really made an impression on me as a friendly and fun guy. If I come back to AZ I would definitely stay with Tom.

Tom's the older brother I never had. I would highly recomend anyone traveling through Tempe stay with him. He is always trying to find new and interesting things to do in the valley, so I'm sure he'll be able to show you a good time.
