Douglas Deleu

Douglas and Sieska hosted me for some days in Sept'09. Unfortunatelly he was quite busy during my stay and we did not share much time together. He seems to be a really nice, open-minded and funny person.

Sometimes it's good to not give yourself away too early. Without realizing that he actually knew me Douglas took me to a good party in Antwerpen and we had an excellent time!

I hosted Douglas a couple nights at the Pukkelpop festival in my tent. It was very nice having you there at the festival. See you next time. ;-)

I met Doulas at the couchsurfing gathering at Dour fest, had the best time ever! Douglas has some very nice dancing moves and is a very nice person to hang out with! He made the BEST coffee and hotdogs! We definitely have to do this again next year!

Where to start: boattrip at night, respectful, advanced adventurer -> going the wrong direction at every possible moment, interesting, games and wine,...? Let's just say, I had a great time and I'll never forget.

there were good and bad moments during the short time we shared(let's remember the good ones:)) but one is sure-Douglas is this kind of guy who rivet your attention from the first time, he's open-minded, self-confident, creative, seems like he's enjoying his life in the fullest, taking everything what life brings him at the moment

Douglas is one of those people that I liked the instant I met him. He is warm, friendly, generous, fun, and has this ability to make you feel relaxed and happy, just by being around him!
He was a great host, and took me out and showed me Gent (and of course the Gentse Feesten!), but also gave me my own space and freedom when I wanted it.
I would definitely like to stay with Douglas again, and my couch will always be free if you ever get to Melbourne!

douglas is fun to be with, dancing and partying, he is able to make you feel better and go on partying i youve the feeling that all sucks, and thats quite difficult ^^
watch out if hes drunk he will do stupid stuff but he regrets it and clear the situation afterwards out, never take douglas too serious, that wont work anyway, hope we see us again,

I met Doug at the Ghentse Feesten and he warned me that he could convince me to stay in Ghent a day longer. And then a day later he saw me at the train station in Ghent. My friend and I had no place to go and so Doug let us stay with him.

He has an ability to find awesome Jimi Hendrix cover bands. Also he has an uncanny ability to convince you to stay in Ghent.

Independent, open thought, dancer, more than meets the eye, likes a laugh. I felt like meeting the wiser version of me. I recognised quite a bit of me or what I would like to be in him. I feel lucky & happy to have met him.

Douglas hosted me and my friend for whole weekend at his place. He was very warm and welcoming. While we were there, he generously spent time with us and took to see the town and some pubs to taste really good Belgian beer! Again, Douglas was very gracious and I hope he will be able to come visit me in Lithuania in the future.

Doug took me out on a hunt to try everything Belgian, I did the fries with gravy and mayonnaise, we went to the chocolate bar, and even a bar with 250 (yes the number is right) different types of beers !! Some of them ill probably wont be trying again even if i could... but really.. He is one of those very sincere and friendly people you wanna meet if you have the chance to !

He introduced the game "shithead", I lost and now I'm an addict! He ofcourse is King Shithead himself!!! Looking forward to the next game...

Douglas is a spontaneous and easy going guy. He hosted me in Gent and I really appreciate his availability and sympathy to show his city. We drunk some bears -not sweet enought ;) , ate tipical belge fries and laugh a lot! Thank you for you hospitality, for all the great conversation and, of course, for the amazing Thai dinner - it reminded me my home food! See you around!

Douglas hosted me and Fernanda in a very spontaneous and assertive way. I enjoyed his company, city tour and beer tasting. We had interesting talks about couchsurfing experiences. Her flatmate also made us feel very welcome during our stay. Thanks for the thai dinner.

Douglas is a very nice and kind host. He took me out for a night tour in Gent which was fun and really great. We had a few beers and a good talk, and then we went for a night walk near the canal which was really cool. It was so fun and of course a good experience to surf with you,

Douglas is an awesome person to meet up with. First time we met up in nYc while he was traveling around and recommended him to my friend Amit for a place to stay. Than I stayed with him in his home country of Belgium. Coincidentally, he was hosting my friend at the same time. Thanks for a great night out, especially the Kwak experience ^_^

We met in Pai while Douglas was part of the Thai Couch Surfing Collective. We met a few times. I will never forget one particular night we spent hours sitting by and open fire, connecting through talking about our experience of India. I was struck by his honesty and openness. He's a wonderful human being and I hope to bump into him again somewhere in this small world.

Douglas is as open and gracious as any host could be. He's just a real guy who loves hearing crazy stories and telling them. The whole reason why we traveled to Ghent was because we wanted to hang out with Douglas. He is the epitome of what it is to be a traveler, adventurer, and a couchsurfer. Cheers, Douglas. You kick ass.

Douglas was a wonderful host! We couldn't have asked for a better experience our first time couchsurfing! He was very warm and generous, showing us all around Ghent the evening we arrived. We had a lot of fun with him and wished we could have stayed longer! Thank you Douglas!

Where to begin? He catched my attention and curiosity right from the start. I love to have Douglas around and spend time together. He's warm and sweet, a lot of fun and so much more! It's amazing to hear about the things he has done already and he makes me feel like everything is possible. I just can't wait to go to India together and get to know him better day by day.

He has some really positive energie around him, just have to smile when you see him. This sweet boy made me laugh so much, i'm never bored, always fun. We went to India and Luxembourg together. One flying, one hitchhiking (i guess its not necessary to specify what was flying and what was hitchhiking ;) maybe we should do it other way around next time). He's always up for crazy ideas and thats why he's the best!

Douglas is such an experienced CS'er whit expertise on tons of fields... He's always happy and in for a meetin or 2,3,4,... a week(end). Flexible, easy to talk to, a pleasure to have around!

Douglas was an excellent host. He went out of his way to accommodate me, provide a genuine local meal, and introduce me to his culture. We had a lot in common and it would have been great to stay in the area for more than just a day. He's had so many different experiences in the last several years working and traveling. It was great exchanging stories.

I don't know Doogie the Douglas as well as I'd like, we were always passing. But, though he doesn't know, there were many a time when his passing smile and grin shifted my outlook and I saw the sunshine again. I hope we meet again when time is a friend. You don't have to know Doogie long to know you can trust him.

I thought that Douglas would always be the Burning Man guy to me, but now this is the last thing that crosses my mind when I think of him. I guess anyone would easily run out of adjectives trying to describe how amazing he is. He's so nice that I would even go to Belgium just to watch zombie movies with him (and to drink beer too, of course). It was a real pleasure to hang out with him in NY and I'm looking forward to the next times.

We met in a cool rooth party in New York, I was the woman in the red dress, he was the cool gay robot... He's a very funny and nice guy! How many etero would think to dress as cool robots and even try with women... I've probably spent with him not more then an hour (and NOT naked in a bathroom...) but enough to know that I share with him a friendly and funny personality and the courage to live the lifes we want, following our dreams and hearts... Great gay robot, hope to meet you again somewhere too!

Doogie! It was a pleasure to share all these collective experiences with this friendly Belgian guy! He is highly professional, likes the good kind of music (thanks for being an ally in that ;) ) and is not afraid to speak his mind.
It even turned out that we attended the same small underground music festival years before we even knew about each others' existence!
Hope to meet you again sometime, so you can give me that picture of me drinking a belgian beer in the hot tub in person!

 

Douglas is a really easy going guy who is liked by anyone who meets him. He has some good travel stories and it was interesting to hear about his work on the Couch Surfing Project. Before he left he even donated his cell phone to us for future surfers to use. I'm looking forward to a game of chess somewhere in the world!

Dougie pulled me out of class IV rapids after I fell in. What else can I say but HE IS THE MAN. Our time in Alaska was too short but I am grateful that I now have a Belgian buddy.

He's a fun guy to be around, very respectful, honest, genuine, and always looking for an adventure. We will meet up again somewhere, I am sure of it.

 

This man can battle moskeetos with a machete with one hand, code beautifully with the other one and still manage to entertain you with his storytelling skills, all at the same time. I am sure that "Doogie" means "adventure" in some forgotten language of a country yet to be discovered. And if you decide to embark yourself in the exploration of such a land, you couldn't wish for a better, more reliable companion.

Doogie is the lionheart of the teach team. He brings passion and lots of fun to work. I'm glad to have met him here at the collective. Looking forward to more fun times and smoking JavaScript ;)

 

Douglas & friends visited for a couple days and were great company. They were on a mission but I hope to meet up again either in Fairbanks or someplace more exotic to hear his story.

While driving motobike Thai style, instead of crushing to a wall, found ourselves on a magical tree house which is appeared suddenly in front of us. Than things started to run and run away.. time was short but somehow attained enough to load. water was music, birds the singers, elephant driver Alaaddin's gin. tralla lal lalla lla, take care and good bye!!

well yeah, we had some real deep+open (especially me,haha) talks, also sooo much fun while just sitting at the river and on the town square, drinking cheap or expensive wine(Doogie prefers the last one, because it doesn't colour his lips black;), talking a lot and just fooling around.
..."What-a-wonderful-world" cheese+wine picnics in Brugge, a great night out in Pai, the good belgian beer in Ghent and some kebaps and touristy stuff (poor Doogie, you were really patient with me!;) in Brussels.. had such a great time with you, thanks soo much and hugs to your mum, too ;)

on the flight from delhi to london we talked a lot... a lot... a lot! he introduced me to CS phenomenon. one of those people who i know is a GOOD man... open heart big vision :)

He invited and convinced me to go to a couchsurfing party; he introduced me his host; he saved me from a delicate situation; he shared with me some of his amazing experiences in India...I really had a great time!!! Douglas seems to have a big heart and I would definitly appreciate to meet him again...

By far one of the most adventurous people I've met who was always on the go, if there was a border nearby Dougie wanted to cross it ;o) - I was lucky enough not only to get to work with Douglas (aka Ultra Man) but also share a place with him in Thailand.

Its hard to make a reference for Doogie sound different. I can ditto every word that people have to say below.I can trust Doogie to show me India better than I have seen it in the last 23 years of my life ;) Thats a lot of confidence for a patriotic Indian.
Its worth every minute of your time to find him in your journey through the world. Stay away from him only if he loves you, sooner or later he is sure to spoil you in a way that you can't do without him ;) I haven't met many with the hotness and the niceness. Girls watch out ! Its a hard to find combination in this Ultraman. I absolutely adore him and as you see below, I am not the only one ;(

 

Expect your heart to melt a little when this gorgeous guy waltzes into your life, even if it's for a brief moment. Doogie is a heap of fun, dedicated volunteer, inspiring adventurer and a great colleague – he was always there to brighten my day during the Collective with that winning smile and warm hugs. Thanks for being just who you are Doogie – you’re delightful!

 

My Ultra Roomie! Doogie was the 1st Collective face I saw when he came to pick me up @ the bus station (treating me to my 1st motorbike-with-all-my-backpack-&-such). His unlimited ability to find adventure, planned & unplanned (double border run, anyone?) only adds to his very Euro mystique, & I was never worried for my life when I rode on the scooter with him (OK, a little in the beginning, but I only blame myself). Even if we butted heads, I always felt a mutual respect with him. His sarcasm is NOT to be missed, & neither is his sweetness. There's more I could say, but I don't ant to give away too much >:) - just meet Doogie, you'll be happy you did!

 

Doogie rocks my world. Funny, kind and blessed with lava-hot looks, he's a joy to spend time with. I especially enjoyed his sense of humor and his willingness to put up with naughty little me. :)

great traveling companion, which was confirmed after a two day ride on a slow boat in Lao. if the slow boat ride down the Mekong river with nothing to do but talk and play chest doesn't make us best friends now, then i don't know what will.

 

Douglas is action packed! Douglas is ultra cool! Douglas will either take you on a wild adventure or tell you about one of his own.

 

the day i met doogie, he and i made plans to motorbike to burma & hitchhike in as far as we could go. this is normal for doogie: he takes your day to day doldrums and transforms them into extreme ultra-adventures. but more importantly, he's the most frank, thoughtful, sincere guy you'll run into between here and delhi (or vlaams brabant?), and that ain't no exaggeratin'.

I first met him at the New Years beach party in Koh Tao. He looked like an angel with his white clothes, blonde hair and wonderful blue eyes! I very much enjoyed our short time together. Doogie (aka Ultraman) has this great sense of energy without being overwhelming. Great for parties and general shenanigans, his 'poi' skills must be seen to be believed! Don't listen to the story he tells you of how he learnt, I think he took lessons, he's too good!

Well, he got me free beer in Belgium. Let us use his place for BBQ meetup in Leuven. So I had to host him. kidding kidding.. LOL

So! he came to Thailand as he promised. He was dragged with us everywhere.. beach, parties, infamous ping pong show,.. lol

Ended up being here for months (Quite interesting for a guy who never thought about coming to Thailand.) It's your fate, doug ;-)

I'm glad I emailed a right guy when I was in Leuven. It didn't give me a chance just to meet up with local. I've got a friend.

He's my Doegie, I would do anything for him because he deserves that and much, much more. Since I met him the idea of nothern Europeans being cold is just a bad joke far away from the reality; a reality he showed me everytime we've spent together, in Barcelona, Girona, Leuven, Aalter, Ghent or Bergen up zoom (I don't know if I've written this correctly, haha). Well, there are not enough words to describe what he represents to me, it's simply, too much... He embodies soul depth, intensity, sensibility, and love.

Hey Man! He is an Awesome Man! A great sparkling smile with bright eyes is what makes him different from the crowd.
His eyes actually speak his Heart.A man you should definitely meet in life.
I am definitely looking forward to meet him again and go biking accross India and do an extreme adventure through the terrains of Sunderbans.

Doug spent a few nights at ours on his way to the Thai collective; he brought with him interesting travel tales, his wanderlust, and some interesting perspectives about life. Good food (and beverage...) and laughs around the dinner table - the stuff great

Doegie is a very nice (and good looking I must say) fellow, with many things we liked from the start: great music on store, fantastic traveling stories, good sense of humour. Doegie does not collect experiences, he LIVES them and tells you about with a mixture of innocence, introspection and fun that make it all the more interesting. As i wrote on my blog at the time, travelling with Doug was like travelling with my best friend and my big brother all rolled into one. He's one of life's good people.
He has an adventurous spirit, a top sense of humour, great music and the biggest heart in Belgium.
Just watch out if he eats onions... ;-)

Douglas is outgoing and adventurous, and certainly open to trying new things, especially food. He enjoys yoga and chewing on things that taste like wood. If all else fails, bring a frisbee and he'll be your friend.

My liking for Belgian CSers strengthened even more when I met this guy. Really down to earth and for sure trouble free.. he he.. Took him out to the saturday salsa night with my other friends and headbanging inside my car at 3 in the morning.. Dont miss the chance of hosting him during the rest of his long India trip..

 

I was in Leuven one night and didn't have a place to stay. I was introduced to doug by a friend and we had a beer. He offered his couch for the night and I ended up staying for a little while longer. It was a holiday from my holiday: we had a few drinks and just chilled out. Thanks

He invited us for a small meeting in his garden, which was very nice (half slavage, half prepared). We had a nice time together and I hope we'll meet another time. He has funny stories to tell... :-)

he generally seems quiet & calm but we chatted a lot about everything during the paris meetings. being a gentleman, he accompanied me and my sister home 2 times at late night. thank u so much.see u in istanbul

 

Doug is not afraid to act on his impulses, i arranged to come to Gent and party on the Gentse feesten with him and afterwards go to leuven but instead he, duke and I went to paris for a week. Doug is up for adventure, i like that!

 

Meeting and travelling with Douglas was a ton of fun. Nanouk and I met Douglas in Gent, where we convinced him to come with us to Paris. Despite having no clothes, toothbrush or deodorant, he came along for the adventure, and he definitely did not regret it! This guy's one cool laid-back Belgian that you simply must meet. Hope to meet you again soon, my friend.

 

Dougie game to Paris with nothing but the clothes on his back. While others made up excuses about how they didn't have any proper clothes for a costume picnic, Doug taped together newspapers and magazine clippings and showed up bright-eyed and bushy tailed for the event. With that kind of enthusiasm, I have no doubt our paths will cross again...

Good chats and good times. Douglas is a very sweet guy who likes to meet people and enjoy who they are. He's generous and loves the adventure of everyday life.

Me and my friend had such a GREAT time at the Rock Werchter Festival, and thanks to this guy it was even better!!! He's a sweety and a smiley :) We were his first CS guests and I hope he enjoyed the experience as much as we did. We miss you 'Pippin'! ;-)

 

Douglas and I met in Leuven on a small CS meeting organised by romanian fellow cs'er Seby. It was really nice meeting him. He's only getting started with surfing and hosting, but I'm really sure he's got the right spirit.

I emailed Douglas to come and join us for a beer in Leuven - on a reallyt short notice - and he showed up:p - it was really cool hanging out and having beers with him and my host and Sven.
had some really nice chats a lil bit about everything - he seems to be a very cool and nice person - very exicited about the idea of couchsurfing - i hope your trip in India will be a blast.
he is definetly a great asset to the couchsurfing project!
