Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
Couch Available: Maybe Preferred Gender: Any Max Surfers Per Night: 2
Shared Sleeping Surface: No Shared Room: DependsYou'll sleep in the living room. I share my apartment with another girl-couchsurfer. (http://www.couchsurfing.com/people/kasies)
The apartment is 3 minutes walk from the Ghent St Pieters trainstation.
Actually its the best location in Belgium you could find a couch.
- Why?
Ghent IS the most beautiful city in Belgium and every 30 minutes there are direct trains bringing you in less than one hour to Bruges, Antwerp or Brussels!
- So what are you waiting for?
Send me a couchrequest with a very good incentive why I should pick you above anyone else. Similar tastes in music or movies, good cooking skills, crazy travelstories, chessplayer, beer taster, webdesigner, or just being a weirdo,... these are just one of the few buzz words you could use to catch my attention ;)
Tell me what you want to do also: dancing, concerts, sightseeing, beer tasting, a movie or just a good rest after a long day of travel. ... and I'll see what I can do.
The living room you will be sleeping in is facing the road so I hope you don't mind a bit of traffic noise in the morning

My blog for my CouchSurfing adventuresCheck out the map on my blog to see where I am right now How I Participate in CSJoined the collective in Thailand and Alaska!CouchSurfing ExperienceParis Rendez-vous was the best CS experience I've had until now. I arrived in Paris "by accident" after a night out in Ghent. I fell asleep in the back of my CSers car to wake up in Paris! Totally unprepared I was able to stay there for 7 days and having the time of my life thanks to the Paris CS Family. eating EVERYWHERE & never got sick!). One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done After a wild night with some Israelis I venture alone in the streets of McLeod Ganji heading to my guesthouse at 3:30am. The streets are completely deserted. Suddenly I am surrounded by a pack of street dogs and they where not very happy with my presence and not willing to let me pass through. Then, out of nowhere 3 beautiful big dogs came walking next to me and they guided me like 3 guardian angels through the streets while all the other dogs keep on barking an growling at me. From Daniel Rivas Barcelona, Spain Sep 6 Positive Douglas and Sieska hosted me for some days in Sept'09. Unfortunatelly he was quite busy during my stay and we did not share much time together. He seems to be a really nice, open-minded and funny person.
From Kasper Souren Brussels, Belgium Aug 28 Positive Sometimes it's good to not give yourself away too early. Without realizing that he actually knew me Douglas took me to a good party in Antwerpen and we had an excellent time!
From Peter Van Belleghem Roeselare, Belgium Aug 24 Positive I hosted Douglas a couple nights at the Pukkelpop festival in my tent. It was very nice having you there at the festival. See you next time. ;-)

I met Doulas at the couchsurfing gathering at Dour fest, had the best time ever! Douglas has some very nice dancing moves and is a very nice person to hang out with! He made the BEST coffee and hotdogs! We definitely have to do this again next year!
From Marlena Scheller Gniezno, Poland Aug 2 Positive there were good and bad moments during the short time we shared(let's remember the good ones:)) but one is sure-Douglas is this kind of guy who rivet your attention from the first time, he's open-minded, self-confident, creative, seems like he's enjoying his life in the fullest, taking everything what life brings him at the moment
From Martina Mandl Vienna, Austria Jul 28 Positive douglas is fun to be with, dancing and partying, he is able to make you feel better and go on partying i youve the feeling that all sucks, and thats quite difficult ^^
watch out if hes drunk he will do stupid stuff but he regrets it and clear the situation afterwards out, never take douglas too serious, that wont work anyway, hope we see us again,
FREE HUGS,
Martina
From Jackson Fliss Conway, United States Jul 26 Positive I met Doug at the Ghentse Feesten and he warned me that he could convince me to stay in Ghent a day longer. And then a day later he saw me at the train station in Ghent. My friend and I had no place to go and so Doug let us stay with him.
He has an ability to find awesome Jimi Hendrix cover bands. Also he has an uncanny ability to convince you to stay in Ghent.
From Diego Gonzalez Gent, Belgium Jul 26 Positive Super chill very funny guy always ready to party, really open mind i had fun wih him. catch u again sumtime in Ghent
From Waldo Vanderhaeghen Brussels, Belgium Jul 23 Positive Independent, open thought, dancer, more than meets the eye, likes a laugh. I felt like meeting the wiser version of me. I recognised quite a bit of me or what I would like to be in him. I feel lucky & happy to have met him.
From Dovydas Zakas Vilnius, Lithuania Jun 30 Positive Douglas hosted me and my friend for whole weekend at his place. He was very warm and welcoming. While we were there, he generously spent time with us and took to see the town and some pubs to taste really good Belgian beer! Again, Douglas was very gracious and I hope he will be able to come visit me in Lithuania in the future.
From Luz Landa Buenos Aires, Argentina Jun 30 Positive Doug took me out on a hunt to try everything Belgian, I did the fries with gravy and mayonnaise, we went to the chocolate bar, and even a bar with 250 (yes the number is right) different types of beers !! Some of them ill probably wont be trying again even if i could... but really.. He is one of those very sincere and friendly people you wanna meet if you have the chance to !
From Joke Hertogen Gent, Belgium Jun 22 Positive He introduced the game "shithead", I lost and now I'm an addict! He ofcourse is King Shithead himself!!! Looking forward to the next game...
From Fernanda Rodamilans Paris, France May 26 Positive Douglas is a spontaneous and easy going guy. He hosted me in Gent and I really appreciate his availability and sympathy to show his city. We drunk some bears -not sweet enought ;) , ate tipical belge fries and laugh a lot! Thank you for you hospitality, for all the great conversation and, of course, for the amazing Thai dinner - it reminded me my home food! See you around!
From André Benine Neto Paris, France May 25 Positive Douglas hosted me and Fernanda in a very spontaneous and assertive way. I enjoyed his company, city tour and beer tasting. We had interesting talks about couchsurfing experiences. Her flatmate also made us feel very welcome during our stay. Thanks for the thai dinner.
From Porntep Archavapong Oxford, United Kingdom Apr 17 Positive Douglas is a very nice and kind host. He took me out for a night tour in Gent which was fun and really great. We had a few beers and a good talk, and then we went for a night walk near the canal which was really cool. It was so fun and of course a good experience to surf with you,
thank you very much : )
From Lost on the ROCK Bethlehem, United States Apr 1 Positive Douglas is an awesome person to meet up with. First time we met up in nYc while he was traveling around and recommended him to my friend Amit for a place to stay. Than I stayed with him in his home country of Belgium. Coincidentally, he was hosting my friend at the same time. Thanks for a great night out, especially the Kwak experience ^_^
From James Littmann East Grinstead, United Kingdom Mar 15 Positive We met in Pai while Douglas was part of the Thai Couch Surfing Collective. We met a few times. I will never forget one particular night we spent hours sitting by and open fire, connecting through talking about our experience of India. I was struck by his honesty and openness. He's a wonderful human being and I hope to bump into him again somewhere in this small world.
From Reinhardt Suarez Chicago, United States Mar 14 Positive Douglas is as open and gracious as any host could be. He's just a real guy who loves hearing crazy stories and telling them. The whole reason why we traveled to Ghent was because we wanted to hang out with Douglas. He is the epitome of what it is to be a traveler, adventurer, and a couchsurfer. Cheers, Douglas. You kick ass.
From Jordan and Ashlee Cowles Colorado Springs, United States Mar 12 Positive Douglas was a wonderful host! We couldn't have asked for a better experience our first time couchsurfing! He was very warm and generous, showing us all around Ghent the evening we arrived. We had a lot of fun with him and wished we could have stayed longer! Thank you Douglas!
From Saartje De Neve Oosterzele, Belgium Mar 3 Positive Where to begin? He catched my attention and curiosity right from the start. I love to have Douglas around and spend time together. He's warm and sweet, a lot of fun and so much more! It's amazing to hear about the things he has done already and he makes me feel like everything is possible. I just can't wait to go to India together and get to know him better day by day.
From Eline Rogge Gent, Belgium Feb 23 Positive He has some really positive energie around him, just have to smile when you see him. This sweet boy made me laugh so much, i'm never bored, always fun. We went to India and Luxembourg together. One flying, one hitchhiking (i guess its not necessary to specify what was flying and what was hitchhiking ;) maybe we should do it other way around next time). He's always up for crazy ideas and thats why he's the best!
From Neil Evans Liege, Belgium Feb 4 Positive Cool guy - lots going on - a pleasure to be with
From Wendy Thielemans Antwerp, Belgium Jan 19 Positive Douglas looks sooooo shy and reserved at first... but in his mind he's already having a party, it's just a matter of time to let the party burst out for real :D
Great guy to talk to too ;)
Happy to have met you and hope to see you again :D
From Laurent Lhomond Paris, France Jan 7 Positive I enjoyed Hosting Douglas. We had a good time, many laughs and good conversation together and the 12 other CSers for the new year. Hope to see you soon.

Hope to see you on many more meetings Douglas... and don't worry, you still have tons of times before your family responsibility kicks in ^^
From Scott Knackmuhs New York, United States Oct 14, 2008 Positive Douglas was an excellent host. He went out of his way to accommodate me, provide a genuine local meal, and introduce me to his culture. We had a lot in common and it would have been great to stay in the area for more than just a day. He's had so many different experiences in the last several years working and traveling. It was great exchanging stories.
From Lara Fawn Delta Junction, United States Oct 6, 2008 Positive I don't know Doogie the Douglas as well as I'd like, we were always passing. But, though he doesn't know, there were many a time when his passing smile and grin shifted my outlook and I saw the sunshine again. I hope we meet again when time is a friend. You don't have to know Doogie long to know you can trust him.
From Juliana Almeida Maceio, Brazil Sep 18, 2008 Positive I thought that Douglas would always be the Burning Man guy to me, but now this is the last thing that crosses my mind when I think of him. I guess anyone would easily run out of adjectives trying to describe how amazing he is. He's so nice that I would even go to Belgium just to watch zombie movies with him (and to drink beer too, of course). It was a real pleasure to hang out with him in NY and I'm looking forward to the next times.
From Thomas Feys Leuven, Belgium Sep 17, 2008 Positive Open-minded person, social, always friendly, always willing to help others
From Giuliana Ubertini Rome, Italy Sep 16, 2008 Positive We met in a cool rooth party in New York, I was the woman in the red dress, he was the cool gay robot... He's a very funny and nice guy! How many etero would think to dress as cool robots and even try with women... I've probably spent with him not more then an hour (and NOT naked in a bathroom...) but enough to know that I share with him a friendly and funny personality and the courage to live the lifes we want, following our dreams and hearts... Great gay robot, hope to meet you again somewhere too!
From Varun Mowar New York, United States Sep 11, 2008 Positive Great guy. genuine, crazy, whacky...great company.
From Walter Heck Khon Kaen, Thailand Sep 9, 2008 Positive Doogie! It was a pleasure to share all these collective experiences with this friendly Belgian guy! He is highly professional, likes the good kind of music (thanks for being an ally in that ;) ) and is not afraid to speak his mind.
It even turned out that we attended the same small underground music festival years before we even knew about each others' existence!
Hope to meet you again sometime, so you can give me that picture of me drinking a belgian beer in the hot tub in person!
From Amit Evron Jersey City, United States Sep 9, 2008 Positive Douglas is a really easy going guy who is liked by anyone who meets him. He has some good travel stories and it was interesting to hear about his work on the Couch Surfing Project. Before he left he even donated his cell phone to us for future surfers to use. I'm looking forward to a game of chess somewhere in the world!
From Jasmien De Smaele Leuven, Belgium Aug 27, 2008 Positive Douglas is a nice person and fun to hang around with!
From Katja Smirnov San Francisco, United States Aug 22, 2008 Positive Wish for more time, for more days...but perhaps somewhere, someday :)
From Nick Racz Scottsdale, United States Aug 18, 2008 Positive Dougie pulled me out of class IV rapids after I fell in. What else can I say but HE IS THE MAN. Our time in Alaska was too short but I am grateful that I now have a Belgian buddy.
He's a fun guy to be around, very respectful, honest, genuine, and always looking for an adventure. We will meet up again somewhere, I am sure of it.
From Patricia López Vancouver, Canada Aug 14, 2008 Positive This man can battle moskeetos with a machete with one hand, code beautifully with the other one and still manage to entertain you with his storytelling skills, all at the same time. I am sure that "Doogie" means "adventure" in some forgotten language of a country yet to be discovered. And if you decide to embark yourself in the exploration of such a land, you couldn't wish for a better, more reliable companion.
From CYRILG San Francisco, United States Aug 10, 2008 Positive Doogie is the lionheart of the teach team. He brings passion and lots of fun to work. I'm glad to have met him here at the collective. Looking forward to more fun times and smoking JavaScript ;)
From Ryan McCluskey Greenwood Village, United States Jul 27, 2008 Positive Douglas & friends visited for a couple days and were great company. They were on a mission but I hope to meet up again either in Fairbanks or someplace more exotic to hear his story.
From Eline Hennink Haarlem, Netherlands Jul 16, 2008 Positive I'll miss your funny stories and I envy your pancake making skills !!
From Hans Vanmechelen Leuven, Belgium Jul 13, 2008 Positive I think he is one of those people who realise (both grasping as for sure bringing about) that one can make the better world one dreams of. He's fun to hang out & live with, warm, positive & open without being superficial, reliable,...
From WENDYY Breda, Netherlands Jun 29, 2008 Positive too little time in Homer - hope to meetup one day again!
From KNULP Genova, Italy Jun 28, 2008 Positive Good and short time together. We had kind of euro feeling alliance at the thai collective. A big mind. Have good time Doug, I'm sure you do
From Casey Fenton San Francisco, United States Jun 18, 2008 Positive The adventures keep unfolding and Douglas is a master co-adventurer with a heart of gold and limitless fire and passion. I'm excited to see where the adventure will go next!
From Bill Campbell Anchorage, United States Jun 8, 2008 Positive He is a pleasant companion and easy to get along with.
From Litte Benjamin Dante Clarysse-Frooninckx Schaarbeek - Schaerbeek, Belgium Jun 4, 2008 Positive Douglas is always into fun. I don't see him very often, but when he joins the group, we always have a good time. Lots of crazy stories. He has the most exciting life, traveling all around the world. I'm a bit jealous I must confess.
From Celeste Leroux Washington, United States May 23, 2008 Positive It was a pleasure to host Douglas, we had a lovely evening with fellow couchsurfers crossing paths in Alaska. A superb experience overall.
From Nichole West Long Beach, United States May 11, 2008 Positive Had a great time and learned a lot... Wish I would have surfed Douglas' couch... but hey there is always next year right?
From Lieke, Peter and kids Dendermonde, Belgium May 11, 2008 Positive It was amazing to here somebody talking about the collective. Douglas is soooo friendly. He is nice, sweet, adorable all in one person.
You cannot help to love Douglas ;-)
Have fun in Alaska!!!!!!
From Lilian Pungas Berlin, Germany May 8, 2008 Positive the best possible host in the whole Belgium..! ;)
well yeah, we had some real deep+open (especially me,haha) talks, also sooo much fun while just sitting at the river and on the town square, drinking cheap or expensive wine(Doogie prefers the last one, because it doesn't colour his lips black;), talking a lot and just fooling around.
..."What-a-wonderful-world" cheese+wine picnics in Brugge, a great night out in Pai, the good belgian beer in Ghent and some kebaps and touristy stuff (poor Doogie, you were really patient with me!;) in Brussels.. had such a great time with you, thanks soo much and hugs to your mum, too ;)
Happy Journey! ;)
From Ali Zaidi London, United Kingdom Apr 21, 2008 Positive on the flight from delhi to london we talked a lot... a lot... a lot! he introduced me to CS phenomenon. one of those people who i know is a GOOD man... open heart big vision :)
From Carolina Lara Curitiba, Brazil Apr 21, 2008 Positive He invited and convinced me to go to a couchsurfing party; he introduced me his host; he saved me from a delicate situation; he shared with me some of his amazing experiences in India...I really had a great time!!! Douglas seems to have a big heart and I would definitly appreciate to meet him again...
From Thomas L. Horn, Austria Apr 21, 2008 Positive very lucky meeting you at this great event and being dragged to this great party. had a lot of fun. i hope to follow in your footsteps one day and webdesign from a remote corner of our planet
From -MARTINE- Brugge, Belgium Apr 20, 2008 Positive Freezing in Brussels, partying in Liège, me: a headless chicken, him: his sweet calm self. Meaningful conversation in toilethall, that I hope to continue really soon, preferably in a nicer setting!
From Irene & Pierre Waimes, Belgium Apr 20, 2008 Positive He was the guy I had to meet at the first meeting.
Interrested and interresting guy,
hope to see you again.
From DiamondinLondon Harrow, United Kingdom Apr 20, 2008 Positive By far one of the most adventurous people I've met who was always on the go, if there was a border nearby Dougie wanted to cross it ;o) - I was lucky enough not only to get to work with Douglas (aka Ultra Man) but also share a place with him in Thailand.
From Shonali Shetty Mumbai, India Apr 7, 2008 Positive Its hard to make a reference for Doogie sound different. I can ditto every word that people have to say below.I can trust Doogie to show me India better than I have seen it in the last 23 years of my life ;) Thats a lot of confidence for a patriotic Indian.
Its worth every minute of your time to find him in your journey through the world. Stay away from him only if he loves you, sooner or later he is sure to spoil you in a way that you can't do without him ;) I haven't met many with the hotness and the niceness. Girls watch out ! Its a hard to find combination in this Ultraman. I absolutely adore him and as you see below, I am not the only one ;(
From Miss Mandie Mullumbimby, Australia Apr 6, 2008 Positive Expect your heart to melt a little when this gorgeous guy waltzes into your life, even if it's for a brief moment. Doogie is a heap of fun, dedicated volunteer, inspiring adventurer and a great colleague – he was always there to brighten my day during the Collective with that winning smile and warm hugs. Thanks for being just who you are Doogie – you’re delightful!
From rachel San Francisco, United States Apr 5, 2008 Positive My Ultra Roomie! Doogie was the 1st Collective face I saw when he came to pick me up @ the bus station (treating me to my 1st motorbike-with-all-my-backpack-&-such). His unlimited ability to find adventure, planned & unplanned (double border run, anyone?) only adds to his very Euro mystique, & I was never worried for my life when I rode on the scooter with him (OK, a little in the beginning, but I only blame myself). Even if we butted heads, I always felt a mutual respect with him. His sarcasm is NOT to be missed, & neither is his sweetness. There's more I could say, but I don't ant to give away too much >:) - just meet Doogie, you'll be happy you did!
From Charish Badzinski La Crosse, United States Apr 2, 2008 Positive Doogie rocks my world. Funny, kind and blessed with lava-hot looks, he's a joy to spend time with. I especially enjoyed his sense of humor and his willingness to put up with naughty little me. :)
From Alice Nie San Diego, United States Mar 22, 2008 Positive great traveling companion, which was confirmed after a two day ride on a slow boat in Lao. if the slow boat ride down the Mekong river with nothing to do but talk and play chest doesn't make us best friends now, then i don't know what will.
From Andrew Otto San Francisco, United States Mar 22, 2008 Positive Douglas is action packed! Douglas is ultra cool! Douglas will either take you on a wild adventure or tell you about one of his own.
From LAURA GAMSE Cape Town, South Africa Mar 21, 2008 Positive the day i met doogie, he and i made plans to motorbike to burma & hitchhike in as far as we could go. this is normal for doogie: he takes your day to day doldrums and transforms them into extreme ultra-adventures. but more importantly, he's the most frank, thoughtful, sincere guy you'll run into between here and delhi (or vlaams brabant?), and that ain't no exaggeratin'.
From Sarah Loew Trier, Germany Mar 14, 2008 Positive Gave me very helpful tips for india, thank you doogie.
From Angela and Thibaut Gent, Belgium Mar 8, 2008 Positive He is a great guy!Nice smile and a big big heart!Girls are crazy for him...(do you realize it?)!
From Lisa Hafner Merano, Italy Mar 5, 2008 Positive I first met him at the New Years beach party in Koh Tao. He looked like an angel with his white clothes, blonde hair and wonderful blue eyes! I very much enjoyed our short time together. He is a wonderful guy with lots of good vibrations! I hope the next storm will come very soon. Thank you for your smile! ciao bello;-)
From MOUNTAIN BOI Pai, Thailand Feb 28, 2008 Positive Dookie is a very funny guy. Very cute and pleasant to be around with. I hope one day I can host him.
From RUSCHIKA New Delhi, India Jan 25, 2008 Positive Seems absolutely chilled, fun, opens up easily, non fussy, can land up at a salsa night not knowing its salsa night ;)
----a few months later---- (yes I owe you this)
He is one of the most interesting guys Ive met and always has great stories to tell. We had long chats and he shared so much about CS and the world, in fact even about my own country. Frankly, I am impressed with his intelligence and wit. I will never forget the concepts he taught me- they make more and more sense each passing day :)
He is one person I am surely keep in touch with! Wishing you all the best in Thailand and the rest of your adventures!
From Thibaut Joris Gent, Belgium Jan 25, 2008 Positive Doegie makes for great company, always.
Hope to seen you soon, mate, we should drink together!
From Elena Peters Cologne, Germany Jan 24, 2008 Positive Ultraman knows how to forge connections ;o) He also happens to be freedom-loving, adventurous, a smartass on India and positively gorgeous. What more can I say *g*
From Lisa Sampson Adelaide, Australia Jan 24, 2008 Positive Doogie (aka Ultraman) has this great sense of energy without being overwhelming. Great for parties and general shenanigans, his 'poi' skills must be seen to be believed! Don't listen to the story he tells you of how he learnt, I think he took lessons, he's too good!
From Cristina Mateu Girona, Spain Jan 18, 2008 Positive He's my Doegie, I would do anything for him because he deserves that and much, much more. Since I met him the idea of nothern Europeans being cold is just a bad joke far away from the reality; a reality he showed me everytime we've spent together, in Barcelona, Girona, Leuven, Aalter, Ghent or Bergen up zoom (I don't know if I've written this correctly, haha). Well, there are not enough words to describe what he represents to me, it's simply, too much... He embodies soul depth, intensity, sensibility, and love.
From Debasis Sil Kolkata (Calcutta), India Jan 10, 2008 Positive Hey Man! He is an Awesome Man! A great sparkling smile with bright eyes is what makes him different from the crowd.
His eyes actually speak his Heart.A man you should definitely meet in life.
I am definitely looking forward to meet him again and go biking accross India and do an extreme adventure through the terrains of Sunderbans.
You Rock , DOUGY!
From DDIDDO New Delhi, India Dec 24, 2007 Positive Doug spent a few nights at ours on his way to the Thai collective; he brought with him interesting travel tales, his wanderlust, and some interesting perspectives about life. Good food (and beverage...) and laughs around the dinner table - the stuff great
CSing is made of.
From PLANETE.D Saint-Martin-d'Uriage, France Dec 22, 2007 Positive Doegie is a very nice (and good looking I must say) fellow, with many things we liked from the start: great music on store, fantastic traveling stories, good sense of humour. Doegie does not collect experiences, he LIVES them and tells you about with a mixture of innocence, introspection and fun that make it all the more interesting. Hope to see him again somewhere someday. Anytime welcome in our house - when we'll have one that is...
Bon vent !
From Rachel Fitzsimons Sheffield, United Kingdom Dec 18, 2007 Positive As i wrote on my blog at the time, travelling with Doug was like travelling with my best friend and my big brother all rolled into one. He's one of life's good people.
He has an adventurous spirit, a top sense of humour, great music and the biggest heart in Belgium.
Just watch out if he eats onions... ;-)
From Lindy Sexton Minneapolis, United States Nov 27, 2007 Positive We traveled together. Very easy to get along with and spontaneous! Doug, I hope to see you in the world again.

He offered his couch for the night and I ended up staying for a little while longer. It was a holiday from my holiday: we had a few drinks and just chilled out. Thanks

From DUKE Helsinki, Finland Aug 1, 2007 Positive Meeting and travelling with Douglas was a ton of fun. Nanouk and I met Douglas in Gent, where we convinced him to come with us to Paris. Despite having no clothes, toothbrush or deodorant, he came along for the adventure, and he definitely did not regret it! This guy's one cool laid-back Belgian that you simply must meet. Hope to meet you again soon, my friend.
From CARROTSHAKE Paris, France Aug 1, 2007 Positive Dougie game to Paris with nothing but the clothes on his back. While others made up excuses about how they didn't have any proper clothes for a costume picnic, Doug taped together newspapers and magazine clippings and showed up bright-eyed and bushy tailed for the event. With that kind of enthusiasm, I have no doubt our paths will cross again...
