Personal Description

At the moment, I am spreading the idea of hospitality
exchange across this little planet - people, open your
homes to strangers and meet other people!! :-) ==>
www.hospitalityclub.org

Same idea as this site, but started 4 years before (in 2000), 100,000s of members, not as US/Anglo-centric as CS. We all work together in a large team of volunteers.

I love traveling and hitchhiking, politics, work with exchange students, Indonesian clove cigarettes, ... - more about me on my personal homepage http://www.veit.net
My email is veit@hospitalityclub.org

How I Participate in CS

Please join the Hospitality Club group here on Couchsurfing: http://www.couchsurfing.com/group.html?gid=10 and of course feel free to add me as a friend if we know each other online or offline!

[Sorry if it takes me a long time to add you as a friend, and the description isn't that great - it's a bit too much hassle writing a good comment here. I DO try to write good comments on HC though ;-)]

CouchSurfing Experience

Have stayed with wonderful people all over the world, and that's why I started the Hospitality Club - to give everyone the possibility to experience the same hospitality I experienced.

If you like the idea of hospitality exchange, please check out the club - especially if you travel anywhere out of North America (Europe, Asia, South America) you will find many more members there than here on CS.

Interests

hitchhiking, travel, hospitality exchange, Hospitality Club, http://www.hospitalityclub.org , AFS, exchange student organization, politics, liberal, FDP, Young Liberals, internet, Mensa, help people, Indonesian clove cigarettes, peace, love, freedom, friends

Philosophy

Die Welt kann veraendert werden, Zukunft ist kein Schicksal.

Types of People I enjoy

No exclusions - I love meeting people of all ages and walks of life.

Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org Project

Well, of course have lots of thoughts about CS. When Casey started, we tried everything we could to get him onboard in HC to concentrate all energies on building one big volunteer-driven hospitality exchange network. Now there's two...with all the consequences (waste of time for volunteers, members, easier for abusers to hop from network to network).

Anyway, CS is doing a good job spreading the idea of hospitality exchange further, and while I don't like some of the actions of the people behind this site (I was especially disappointed when Casey linked to hostels.com instead of HC during the "crash" while many people were stranded), any couchsurfer is always welcome at my place!

What do these numbers mean?

This summary is not a replacement for reading references; it's a quick summary to help you get started. At a glance, you can see how many references a member has, and how many of them are positive, neutral, and negative.

In the second line, you'll see how many references came from people who hosted this member, surfed with them, and traveled with them. These numbers won't always add up to the total: some references are not categorized, and some may be categorized as more than one thing.

When viewing this summary, don't jump to conclusions! Things that are negative for one person may be positive for another, and vice versa. It's important to read references carefully and evaluate what that information means to you.

Veit was a fantastic host, sharing his knowledge of hitchhiking and chasing Damien Hirst exhibits across the world!

Veit is a very friendly host. He absolutely knows how to treat the surfers when they reach his place. I didn't feel like I am in a stranger place. He even helped with tips and transport for sight-seeing as well. All the best wishes for his passion of HC.

Veit shared his house with me even though he was going through a very difficult time. His grandfather was dying. And yet while he dealt with that, with trips to the hospital, he hosted me and another traveler in the room by the kitchen. Veit, as you probably know, has big ideas and big ambitions, and he was kind enough to stay up later than he should have to talk to me about them. I wish him all the best with Hospitality Club and I express to him my sympathy on the passing of his grandfather.

It took me a while to write, but i had one of the most amazing experiences at Veit's place. Opening up his home, letting me use all the stuff (even when i am clumsy and couldn't even use a gas oven :-) and describing the goal of Hospitality Club.
Keep the (HC) fire burning!

He and his girlfriend are amasing.Me and friend of mine enjoyed that day stayed in his house. We had some feeling that we should stay more. They shared everything with us. At the end, leaving a reference for the inventor of this kind of networks needs much more than this, but i promise that i will continue the true idea of this HC/CS project. See you ;)

Three of my friends and I spent three nights at Veit's beautiful Dresden home, and we all had an excellent time! He is very accommodating and easy going; we arrived late at night and left very early in the morning, but he didn't mind at all. He gave us an entire room and allowed us to use his kitchen. I am truly impressed by how much he has devoted himself to providing hospitality for others. It was a pleasure to get to know him, his girlfriend, and the members of his family; they are all kind, generous people. Because of Veit, my friends and I had a wonderful experience in Dresden - I hope we will see each other again if I come back to the city!

Veit host me and my 2 friends for an amazing night in his huge house.
The best moment was when he asked us if we would like to stay with ihm in the sauna after the dinner!

Nice place, nice guy, and nice city of course.
See you soon Veit.
