LOTS of stuff if it's the spring summer or fall. If you come in the winter your SOL.
Public transportation?
Yep my car
Can you show people around? Or, are you busy working?
I would say that I'm 50/50 on this one. I'll try my hardest to show you around, but please understand I work here too. :)
Do you prefer to go to bed early or late?
I go to sleep around 1 or 2am most of the time. If you like to sleep early I doubt that you'll have any problem.

Bring a sleeping bag, but in a pinch I'll have some blankets.

Personal Description.jpg) How I Participate in CS
As a Nomadic Ambassador my job is to better help people understand what CouchSurfing is all about.
CouchSurfing seeks to internationally network people and places, create educational exchanges, raise collective consciousness, spread tolerance and facilitate cultural understanding.
As a community we strive to do our individual and collective parts to make the world a better place, and we believe that the surfing of couches is a means to accomplish this goal.
CouchSurfing is not about the furniture, not just about finding free accommodations around the world; it's about making connections worldwide. We make the world a better place by opening our homes, our hearts, and our lives. We open our minds and welcome the knowledge that cultural exchange makes available. We create deep and meaningful connections that cross oceans, continents and cultures. CouchSurfing wants to change not only the way we travel, but how we relate to the world!

Philosophy
I've been cool and uncool and cool and uncool so many times now. I really don't care if people think I'm cool or not. I'm just going to be myself.
Quotes, I love quotes. Here are a few that I like.
“Did perpetual happiness in the Garden of Eden maybe get so boring that eating the apple was justified?”
Chuck Palahniuk
"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." Stephen Roberts
Music, Movies, Books
I'm a big fan of George Orwell Douglas Adams and Chuck Palahniuk. I've just learned the wondrous joys of AudioBooks on my iphone.
Music: Sublime, Pepper, RAtM, Slightly Stoopid, Reggae, Folk...I cant stand Pop
Movies: I like B quality movies, and foreign films with subtitles. I like to go to the movie store and randomly pick out movies that I've never seen or heard of. I've found some really good movies that way. Movies like Equilibrium, Danny DeckChair, It's all gone Pete Tong, SLC Punk
Types of People I enjoy
I like happy people. I like people who don't mess with or pick on other people. I'm a live and let live kinda guy. I like people who don't care what other people think. People who don't care what the new fad is. People who bounce to there own beat...dance there own dance and want to see the world as much as I do.

An American tourist complimented a Greek fisherman on
the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him
to catch them.
"Not very long," answered the Greek.
"But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch
more?" asked the American.
The Greek explained that his small catch was sufficient
to meet his needs and those of his family.
The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest
of your time?"
"I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children,
and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings I go
into the village to see my friends, dance a little,
play the bouzouki, and sing a few songs. I have a full
life."
The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard
and I can help you.
You should start by fishing longer every day. You can
then sell the extra fish you catch. With the revenue,
you can buy a bigger boat.
With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you
can buy a second one and a third one and so on until
you have an entire fleet of trawlers.
Instead of selling your fish to a middleman, you can
negotiate directly with the processing plants and
maybe even open your own plant.
You can then leave this little village and move to
Athens, Los Angeles or even New York City! From there
you can direct your huge enterprise."
"How long would that take?" asked the Greek.
"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the
American.
"And after that? Afterwards?"
"That's when it gets really interesting," answered the
American, laughing. "When your business gets really
big, you can start selling stocks and make millions!"
"Millions? Really? And after that?"
"After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny
village near the coast, sleep late, play with your
grandchildren, catch a few fish, take a siesta with
your wife, and spend your evenings singing, dancing
and playing the bouzouki with your friends...
thanks spyro for this"
One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done
I walked around Tokyo at 2am with just my undies on. Long story and the only way i'll tell you about it is if you surf my couch. :)
Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org Project
really do think the CS project is a great idea. On one hand I am a little apprehensive about staying with strangers, on the other hand I'm really looking forward to being a great host.

From KT Turner Kealakekua, United States Nov 6 Positive I can pretty much tell a person's character when I meet and talk to them. Rocky and his entire family welcomed my friend Tara and I and treated us with respect and as family.
From Zoa Conner and Walter Roscello La Plata, United States Jul 2 Positive Rocky is a friendly and generous host. He gave us the run of their well-developed campground, basically giving us what their customers were paying $60 for. Being summer, work kept him busy and we couldn't chat at length, but I'm sure he's eager to have guests in the off season when it is slower.
From Tara Helwig Valley Forge, United States Apr 15 Positive Rocky & his family totally bent over backwards to make me feel comfortable & right at home. I felt like a long lost relative. I look forward to going back and vending in the area again just to spend more time with Ruby, Misty and the rest of the family! Thanks so much to you all! See you soon!
From Deborah Verdekal Wilkes Barre, United States Mar 28 Positive Rocky emailed me when I registered with couch surf to welcome me to the site.
From Mohammad Babazadeh Kashan, Iran Feb 20 Positive he is veru kindly and he welcome to every thing that memory.
From Chris Ramsey Winter Park, United States Jan 17 Positive Rocky was an excellent host, especially for a first-time surfer. He has lots of great stories to tell and an awesome bar to sit back and hang out in.
We went in the dead of winter and it was absolutely freezing, but the cabin was pretty warm, and even when it got cold in the morning, people that worked with Rocky let us hang out with them where it was nice and toasty.
If you're in his area, you really should surf with this guy. He's pretty damn awesome.
From Jamie Orman Winter Park, United States Jan 17 Positive While on a month long couchsurfing experience he hosted me and two other friends for a night. Great host with awesome stories. Even if we were slightly stupid for traveling when it was max 15 degrees outside, still had an awesome time. If you get the chance to meet him, do it.
From Sheldon Kennedy Guyton, United States Jan 17 Positive I stayed in Rocky's cabin with a couple friends and had a blast. Very cool and laid back guy, a most excellent host!! He also has some awesome travel stories to listen to.
From Katarzyna Socha Krakow, Poland Jan 14 Positive Rocky is very open.

From Benjamin Breault Buffalo, United States Oct 6, 2008 Positive Rocky is a very generous host and atying in one of his RV's, my first experience in such an accomodation, was a cool experience. Rocky not only offered my gf and I a private accomodation, but also took us to dinner and really went out of his way for us. This guy works hard and is very busy, but really is a great host as well!
From Maryanne Brown Oakland, United States Oct 3, 2008 Positive Rocky and his entire family were nothing less than purely magical. The giant yellow whale, shark head, trip to the local brewery, HOT HOT HOT wing sauce, wonderful accomadations, good conversation and HIGH amount of fun we had will be unparralled. From English_Wolf Annandale, United States Sep 16, 2008 Positive Man, the hardest thing was to remember all the names, Ruby, Misty, Rocky and... So many!!!

From ZOOISLANDER Missoula, United States Aug 11, 2007 Positive When I envisioned my trip to NYC, I didnt forsee RVing at the riverside campground in PA or kayaking down a river. But sometimes the best things are those that are unplanned. Meeting Rocky and his familly was definitely worth the detour. Rocky, you're a gracious host and interesting to visit with... an all around great guy. I do hope you get to Montana sometime soon. And of course cow tipping, bovine preg checking and hunting of the elusive snipe are always a must do for special visitors. :)

He also brought a little gnome along! lol I will never forget the "egg" shot at the show..ha ha :-) both of Rocky & Ruby are heaps of fun, very easy going and blend in very well here. Really had good time with them. Three cheers to table tennis, right!? :-D
From Dimitris Zoupas Athens, Greece May 14, 2007 Positive What started as 20' minutes cursing under the Thai sun in 3pm for a 3rd guy who organised the meeting and never showed up, ended up as an amazing day around Bangkok with Rocky and his sis Ruby. Boats, Buckets, Bugs and new friends made this an unforgetable day and definately added another destination in my trip. Keep a Tippee for me... and a buckeeeettt....or two :D
From JUJUGOES North East, United States Apr 26, 2007 Positive Surfed at Rocky's and being from Pennsylvania, I think his place is the bomb! For city folks, this is the place to come to RELAX and take a deep breath. Rocky is very sweet, laid back, SEXY, and kind--what a combination! I'll surf him again maybe when sluttybunny comes to bartend--it's a great meet-in-the-middle spot! Loveya, Rocky!

From Chompu Karawan Bangkok, Thailand Apr 5, 2007 Positive We had dinner at Bee's with other CS folks in Bangkok before hopping for a night out (yay, with "table tennis show--nice way to put it though!). Ended up wasted but it was a fun night!
Rocky and his sister, Ruby, are great guests. They are very easy-going and fun to hang out with. Rocky even cooked Thai meal for us (aka "useless crew"). We had interesting converstaion with lots of laughs about how life goes on here in Bangkok. With their keen to learn about Thai culture and do/don't s, i'm sure they'll be respectable travellers anywhere. =)
From Jessie James (not the cowboy) Quezon City, Philippines Apr 4, 2007 Positive Rocky rocks! Hahaha! This guy knows how to have a good time! From Jamie and Cynthia Way and Ord Fort Collins, United States Mar 12, 2007 Positive Rocky was not only incredibly friendly and interesting, but also provided us with the best place to stay we have seen yet. He definitely motivated me to want to "pay it forward" as he puts it. :D
From Aimee Lynn Hartford, United States Jan 8, 2007 Positive Rocky kicks ass! His place rocks, and I can't wait to go back. Yeah, it is in the middle of nowhere, but that is kind of the kick ass part of it, besides the first kick ass part of it that HE is there! Rocky is SO welcoming, and SO much fun! He even gave me pins and a book to read! *yay* And I really did start reading it too! It is interesting to say the least hehehe....I love this boy, and I can't wait to see him again soon!<3

From Maureen Miranda Vallejo, United States Oct 18, 2006 Positive I really enjoyed the little time we had with Rocky and Ruby. There was alot of chemistry and an immediate sense of familiarity. From PRYWN Healy, United States Sep 8, 2006 Positive i hope i will get a chance to visit him at his camp and bar. he is very inviting.
From Ember Perry Topeka, United States Aug 17, 2006 Positive Rocky was an amazing host! Since it was my first time couchsurfing I was a bit nervous; however, Rocky and his sister made me feel at home. He really does seem like the kind of guy who would 'give the shirt off his back.' Although in my two weeks of travels I saw some wonderful places, staying at Rocky's was probably my favorite. I would be more than happy to host him and probably anyone he knows because, well, he's just that cool.
From Allison Buckley Sherman Oaks, United States Aug 11, 2006 Positive Rocky was a superb host. We were totally BFF for "like" (a little bit of my Valley girl accent slipping out) 2 days. I wouldn't recommend Montgormery, PA to anyone, unless you are staying with Rocky, in which case I highl reccomend it. |
