Couch Information Couch Available: Coffee or a drink Preferred Gender: AnyI live north of Lawton OK in a small community called Richard Spur. It's also near a small town called Elgin OK. I'd be happy to pick you up and show you around and make sure you get to where you need to go. Due to a special arrangement we have with the owner to live here, I am unable to offer my couch, but I sure wish I could. I do smoke, but I'm willing to abstain for the entire time I'm in your company. There's not much to do around here, but I think you would enjoy visiting Medicine Park and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Medicine Park is a tiny village with a few restaurants, a tavern, and a few shops. There's also Wichita Mountains Winery. I love going there to relax on their deck and drink wine with strawberry cheese. I think it would be a perfect place for couchsurfers. (I can't drink wine anymore because of health problems, but I still love it there). I can also drive you up to the summit of Mount Scott and take you on a tour of the Holy City. You'll probably see a few prairie dogs, and you will certainly see buffalo. I'd love to spend a day or two with you, but three days might be too many for me. We do have a city bus system. It's okay but not the greatest. The Comanche Nation has a bus and I think it works by appointments and is very affordable and I believe they can take you to surrounding towns. It's hard to tell about my schedule. Usually though evenings after 7pm are better for me. That's not written in stone, though. Daytime hours are sometimes good too. I'll be unavailable from September 3rd till about the 14th. Friends (6)

Personal DescriptionI'm LeAnn. I returned to college last March and plan to finally get a BS in English. I live in Lawton, OK with my three dogs and one cat. I am married but separated from my husband Billy. I have one son who is twenty years old. His name is Justin and he has recently become engaged to a young lady named Haylie. I have a lovely stepdaughter named Celesta who just graduated from college and lives in Oklahoma City. I also have one son named Michael who died 8 years ago when he was 20. I have a young lady named Cherise who I consider to be my daughter because she lived with me while she was going to high school and was also my son's first girlfriend. How I Participate in CSI am definitely going to tell folks about this awesome website!! It's a terrific idea and I'll do what I can to spread the word!!!CouchSurfing ExperienceI haven't traveled much, but when I have, I stayed in hotels. The last time I went anywhere, I visited my dad in Alabama. That was an awesome trip. I went with my brother who is a priest, living in the Solomon Islands and who is well traveled. He insisted we stop in Memphis and I'm so glad he did. We mostly drove around seeing the sites. We did visit the National Civil Rights Musuem. It was amazing!! We saw the place where Martin Luther King drew his last breath and it was truly very moving. InterestsI enjoy reading, live theater, good movies, live music, and I love animals. (Especially dogs and cats). I watch a lot of tv. My favorite show is General Hospital and thanks to myspace I get to actually talk to the stars. My favorite character is Spinelli, played by Bradford Anderson. I've been talking to him on myspace for over a year and even tt him on the phone once. I really want to meet him one day. I love to read poetry. I have a lot of friends who write really good poetry. I can't write it though. I love to go bicycle riding. That was easier in Tulsa because they had a very nice bike trail. I think it would be awesome to ride a bicycle in Manhattan, but I'm out of shape and it would probably not be as fun in reality. There is a place near here called the Wichita Mountains Winery and it's one of my favorite local places to visit. I enjoy wine and cheese, but due to a health problem, I can't drink wine anymore, but I still love the atmosphere of the winery. PhilosophyI try very hard to be as real as I can in all situations. I don't want to pretend to be nice, or polite in public and then come home and yell at my family. I don't want to be pretentious. It's much easier just being myself. I'm kindhearted, and basically honest. Music, Movies, BooksLet's see. I can't think of everything but I'll try to come up with something. Labamba, 8 Seconds, Titanic, Elizabethtown, Days of Wine and Roses, Rebel Without a Cause, and Grapes of Wrath, are some of my favorite movies. My taste in music is all over the place. I love classic country, like Bobby Bare and George Jones. I love classic rock, like Dr. Hook, and Kiss. I love Lonnie Mack and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. I love to buy books at garage sales, and used bookstores. I enjoy good fiction. I recently read The Lovely Bones and Summer Sisters. I went to a theatrical reading of The Grapes of Wrath, not too long ago. My favorite book is Eric by Doris Lund. I first read it when I was 15 and I've read it over and over. Types of People I enjoyNot to sound like Will Rogers or anything, but I really do like most people that I meet. Everyone has different temperments and personalities and I can adapt pretty easily to all types. I love honest, and patient people. I love to listen to peoples stories about their lives and experiences. Teach, Learn, ShareI don't think it's fair to stereotype folks. I have noticed that it's very common to think you know the kind of person someone is, based on how they look. I don't know where that comes from or why we do it but it's impossible to know someone, until you have actually spent time with them. One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneOh gosh!! I've done many things that folks consider amazing for some reason. One thing that is kinda cool was being written about in a story for Time magazine in May 1992. It was a story about welfare reform which was a hot topic in those days and I was heavily involved in it. They even sent a photographer all the way to my house right here in Oklahoma to get a picture. The photographer was there for 8 hours for just one picture. Then the one they used was the first one he took!! Anyway, to this day, I have been unable to keep my own copy of that issue. Every time I have ever ordered an archived copy from Time it mysteriously disappears. And Time only has a very few copies left of that issue!! Opinion on the CouchSurfing.org ProjectI think it's really terrific!! I don't know why I didn't think of it! Locations TraveledReferences
From BRUCE_N_Arizona Tucson, United States Sep 14, 2008 Positive It was very nice to meet LeAnn, I wished she could stay longer so I could show her many more things that Tucson has to offer. She is a wondeful conversationalist and if you are ever in Oklahoma, please go out of your way and meet with her, she is a wonderful person and a true Cs'er. :-)
From Farrell McGoohan New York, United States Aug 25, 2008 Positive LeAnn is a very friendly, enthusiastic and engaging person with a good soul. If you find yourself in Southwest Oklahoma you should look her up for a chat!
From MY FAVORITE COUCH Norman, United States Jul 19, 2008 Positive LeAnn and Billy are awesome! We had a great lunch at the famous Meers Cafe, where hamburgers are 7 inches in diameter. Both LeAnn and Billy are quite knowledgeable about Lawton and places to visit. LeAnn and I continued on to Medicine Park and other beautiful locations. She was very patient with my obscession to get great photos. (The truth is I met LeAnn at a fish bait shop that was actually a bar in a very remote location. I was slightly lost and the bait shop proprietor came out to help. Next thing I know, I'm in a cozy country bar visiting with the locals until LeAnn rescued me.) LeAnn was an excellent hostess. I highly recommend a day trip to see LeAnn, have a little coffee with her, and ask her to show you the area. This is a stop that should not be missed. |
