Personal DescriptionME: 25, born in North Dakota, grew up in Nebraska, studied, wandered, worked all over. I'm fascinated by everything international and always look for new budget travel info. Bloggers opened my eyes to new ways of getting from A to B and now I'm pedaling across South America: mebobandsurly
My time is mostly spent reading or biking from one place to another, but breathing, movies, and pushing buttons on my camera are also high on the list. Someday I hope to cover the walls of my someday-house with B&W prints from around the world. I'm diving deeper into the Spanish and Latin American film scene, because I love the movies, but still couldn't tell you the who's-who of famous directors and actors.
Trevor fun facts: my smile is lop-sided; I flush public toilets with my shoe; I turn off lights; I find poetry in refrigerator word magnets; and such...Now I'm living thrifty, working, and taking on one project at a time.
How I Participate in CSOpenness: you write, I write, viceversa. We can share ideas & couches.
Whenever possible I organize gatherings, parties, dinners, and outings with local CS communities both where I live and in cities I visit.
InterestsINTERESTS: Traveling dirty-like; backpacking feather-light; NPR; camping with friends; sushi; learning about vagabonds, pirates, criminals, and those on the edge of society; biographies; speeding; chess; music and movies in general, especially foreign films; basketball; people that transcend the norm like Henry Rollins and Manu Chao; being on a beach at sunset & in a jungle at night; flash cards & audio language lessons; sailing; diving; tropical turquoise waters; capoeira; hip hop's history and expansion throughout the world; following crazy Andy's crazy travels on HoboTraveler.com; food that makes your head sweat (Indian, Thai, Mexican); Latin America; thinking up short stories I never write

Philosophy"Face the facts, you are afraid, or you jump. Get a passport and buy a plane ticket, then you leave, it always works out. That is what is great about travel, there is a path. You will never have enough money, I will guarantee that. I am endlessly curious, I am not endlessly wanting to buy things." - Andy, The Hobo Traveler

MUSIC: On my iTunes & Pandora lately: Soul Coughing, Suba, Alika, Kevin Johansen, St. Germain, Operation Ivy, Suicide Machines, Jane's Addiction, Townes Van Zandt
AUTHORS: I try to read uplifting authors but my favorites will always be the down-and-outers who live their literature, like Orwell, Albert Cossery, Henry Miller, Kerouac, Carpentier, Cortazar, Ernesto Sabato, Dostoevsky, etc. Journalists Isabel Pisano and Kapuscinski have important things to say, besides the fact they dodge bullets to finish books. Novels written by true-life adventurers inspire me.
MEMORABLE BOOKS: PAPILLON & Banco by Henri Charriere; FLASH by Charles Duchaussois; Children of Cain: Violence and the Violent in Latin America; PROUD BEGGARS; Kon Tiki; Slanky; El Tunel; WE; Keep the Aspidistra Flying; LA NOCHE BOCA ARRIBA; Out of America: A Black Man Confronts Africa; THE BEACHTypes of People I enjoyTravelers; those who have decided to do something different; those who realize time is short; anyone who knows about specific, strange, random things. I respect dedication and dedicated people.

From VAHINE Cartagena, Colombia Jul 3 Positive One of the last things Trevor told me was: "Sorry my junk was all over the place". Yes! His "junk" was all over the place... not just any junk: it was a privilege for me to be a part of Trevor's incredible journey, to see Surly go through dramatic and emotionally charged transformations, to witness Trevor's growing excitement as he was about to embark on the adventure of a life time!
Trevor is a very gracious guest, considerate, fun, good cook, clean and respectful. His dedication and motivations are to be praised.
I highly recommend him as a guest!
2 enthusiastic thumbs up!
From MUN Girona, Spain Jun 29 Positive I like people who has got the guts to ride on a bike to trotter the world ... and Trevor is one of those few. He's a sweet guy that manages to deal pretty well with his "gringo" background - no offense - Looks like a well travelled person easy to be with. I really enjoyed his company at Ervelin's house and even it was a totally packed couch, Trevor fit in really easy, being part of it right away. Looking forward to meeting you, maybe in Brasil, maybe on my bike too
From Stanton Taylor Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago Jun 27 Positive Trevor is a great guest. He will tidy your living room, wash your dishes and cook your food. He's like having a housewife without the emotional dependence/social obligation and is perhaps the most unobtrusive guest to ever grace my couch (couchsurfing or otherwise). In addition to being the most convenient guest ever he's also full of great stories/ life experiences from his extensive travels. Furthermore, how many of you have met a real live Nebraskan?... Didn't think so. Overall, he's definitely a keeper.
PS. Tropical hosts should remind Trevor to bathe frequently.
From Katiuska Machado Jaimes Caracas, Venezuela Jun 26 Positive Trevor is one of the nicest couchsurfers I've ever met so far. He is very gentle, kind, smart, funny, great cooker, and much more!.
The time I've spent with him was great, from jumping around caracas, exploring caves, hiking big mountains, to playing around like kids and hitchiking through the coastline it was a great experience overall. I wish him the very best in his journey through South America and hope we met again in the future.
I regard him highly and recommend it to anyone.
Cheers Survivor Man!

From Tyler Weesen Bothell, United States Apr 6 Positive I helped Trevor erect his tent(in a completely plutonic sense) only to realize he needs a footprint. 2 mil plastic doesn't cut it in the PNW. We met up at the fest, and afterwards he gave me a ride back to my car so I could get my stuff and come to his awesome CS party (and boy he knows how to throw a good party). When it got super late and I was super tired (and fixin' to drive myself home), he insisted I crash out in the back room, which was a nice relief after a weekend of late nights. From Meagan Williams Melbourne, Australia Mar 18, 2008 Positive I met Trevor at a CS party in Austin and found him a really friendly, down to earth and interesting guy... and he very graciously offered us his couch for when we were coming back to Austin... unfortunately we got stuck and couldnt come back! A real shame because i was really looking forward to hanging with him again and i am certain he would be an amazing host.
From Kelsey Omaha, United States Mar 17, 2008 Positive Maybe it was the time spent in Austin, or maybe from traveling the world, but Trevor breezed into Nebraska and created our first real gathering since I've been a member. Hopefully we can keep that tradition alive. :) Thanks!

From Rob Whirledge Austin, United States Mar 11, 2008 Positive CS is successful because of people like Trevor. From Danielle villasana Austin, United States Mar 3, 2008 Positive i met trevor through joshua and he was extremely helpful with the bus routes in austin (hand written!) and i enjoyed my time with him, talking about traveling, his work and mine and watching a movie, testing out his culinary experiment with tofu (very good by the way)...im happy that we met and hes an awesome, full-of-information host.
From Amanda Sides Lakewood, United States Feb 23, 2008 Positive Trevor was my first couchsurfing guest! He's so easy to be around -- I sort of felt like a bad host because it seemed like I'd known him a long time, like his being in our apartment was a common occurrence. And I wish it were! Trevor, you're always welcome here or wherever I happen to be, and I do hope you'll stop by when you're up this way again.
P.S. You made a good impression on my roommate -- I think he'll let me have another one. :)
From Hannie Blair Yongdungp'o, South Korea Feb 20, 2008 Positive Trevor has more experience meeting new people than anyone I've ever met, and he's genuinely nice while he does it. He introduced me to spanish music not played by mariachis!
From Elizabeth Lightfoot Denver, United States Feb 17, 2008 Positive haven't surfed his couch- but i'm looking forward to when i do. trevor is sort of swanky w/ this rugged notion. his curiosity is contagious- hence great times no matter where he takes you. i recommend trevor's couch and personality.

From Anna Malsberger Boston, United States Jan 25, 2008 Positive trevor's like an international concierge: when he's not accommodating domestic travelers, he's reminding folks to use their passports. his sincerity, curiosity, and compassion are almost too big for the cozy austin apartment, but somehow he manages to make more than enough room for anything and anyone. cuz he's just awesome like that.
From Eric Shapiro Raleigh, United States Jan 22, 2008 Positive I have known Trevor literally since before I learned to read. I have come to consider him as one of my best friends and have been continually impressed with the interest and wonder with which he views the world and those in it. I had the oppurtunity to stay with him in Costa Rica and he was one of the most gracious hosts I can imagine. Plus, he's a boy scout so he can probably show you lots of cool knots.

From Adrian Montfort Mexico City, Mexico Dec 3, 2007 Positive First of all, I wish I could've been a better host or spend more time with Trevor but a weird week combined with excessive workload and a cranky landlady forced me to change plans the last minute. Fortunately, Trevor landed with a great local CSer and I managed to host him for one night before he left back for Austin. That one night (and multiple phone calls) served to show the quality of this guy. Shame on me for bad-hosting but I will definitely hit him up, as visiting Austin is in my near plans.
From Terry Burwell Rock Springs, United States Dec 3, 2007 Positive For the past few years I have been living vicariously through Trevor and his writing. There are at least 7 ideas running through his head at any particular time. Without him, it would have been easy to slip into the monotony that is the 'American dream' and cease to live an abundant life. Expect great things from him.
