CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

UPDATE: June 2014
We're on our second world tour! Three and a half months in Europe, then moving to points east.

Travel log: www.itsbohemian.com

I am traveling with my life partner and lover - also on CS - so I won't be able to host for a while. Our goal is to travel for two years and then open an artist's hostel (with some couchsurfing) in Amsterdam in 2016; we just have to figure out how!

_______history_______

I've been hosting since 2006, and officially on CS since 2008. The most I have hosted were 13 people at once, for the Obama inauguration in Washington DC. The longest I hosted was for nearly 2 months - it's almost not CouchSurfing at that point I suppose....

We're both pretty artsy, eclectic, and bohemian backpackers. We enjoy our wine, quality beers, and the occasional hookah. We also love to cook, and have been experimenting with Persian and Indian. Our TexMex is off the charts!

____About me_____
I have a free and adventurous spirit, a thirst for experience, a creative mind, an overflow of ambition, and the strength of character to make anything possible. I also have a lot of adjectives in my pocket.

I'm in the practice of living life to the fullest, though this is a daily commitment. I've always loved the life I have, and feel like I'm trying to transcend even further. I love to make people laugh, enjoy seeing people smile, and enjoy sharing stories as one of my favorite pass-times.

PHILOSOPHY

These are just passing words,
Not timeless thoughts;
These are merely glances,
Not a passionate stare;
But if you should find yourself dreaming,
You know you are there...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I began hosting people in 2006 before I knew about CouchSurfing. In 2008, I had my first CS experience hosting 13 people at one time in a small apartment for the Presidential Inauguration - it was a tremendous experience with everyone sleeping side by side in sleeping bags.

I traveled around the world in 2010, and had a chance to CouchSurf for my first time in Egypt, Jordan, and Dubai.

I try to make your experience in DC unique, and give you options to experience it the way you want. It's what I would want from anyone hosting me - a point in exactly the right directions, and a guide (and drinking partner) when available.

I try to make my home your home when you're here; it's hard to be a part of a community, even a digital one, and remain strangers.

I've met some wonderful people through CS, and have made friends around the world. The world becomes your home if you let it, and I try to when I can.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had so many, it's hard to say now. I've met so many wonderful people, but once upon a time...

PRIOR TO JAN 2013
My favorite so far was on Inauguration. I opened my place up to anyone who wanted to come to DC and be here for a part of history, and had 13 people crash on my floor in sleeping bags only to get up at 3:30am to get out to the city. It was surreal!

I have also had an intern stay with me for over a month. Amazing the kinds of things that happen in your world when you open your door.

Interests

I'm an explorer and artist at heart. I write when I can and enjoy taking pictures. I'm a corporate slave who would rather be living in a different city every couple months and experiencing as must of the world as possible.

I think watching technology change the world is fun. The way it connects and breaks boundaries of communication, allowing for a more global awareness, is great.
People interest me. I grew up somewhat sheltered from a Western perspective both in terms of geography and culture. Exploring the many ways in which people refract the world fascinates me.
I love to cook, and don't suck at it. I'm exploring more Indian and Persian food these days, and make a mean burger on the grill.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy media. It's too difficult to keep a list like this because it keeps changing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent two weeks in Haiti once that started out with a flight into an airport that was bombed the day before, followed by a night at an orphanage, followed by the remaining two weeks in a small town on the western side of the island. I've swam with sharks, jumped out of a plane, found a 3 foot lizard in my bed, and camped with Bedouins. Some of the most amazing experiences need a cup of tea to share. I love exchanging stories!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a lot of IT and executive level corporate experience. I understand how to make numbers have meaning, and to apply analytics and learning to systems and cycles.I also have experienced a good amount in life - either directly or through experiences of others - and think of conversation as sharing and story telling. It is through each other that we learn the most.
We are all part of the human experience - I enjoy sharing it and getting a chance to live beyond my experiences through the stories others have to share about their own.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories of travel, a bottle of wine (or local concoction), a meal (that I would love to cook up for you), and hopefully some shared experiences of our own.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Haiti, Iran, Italy, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Viet Nam
