Personal Description

An idealist that is trying to figure out ways to make the world a better place. I am currently traveling around the World on my bicycle named Pearl and educating myself in many manner of things in an attempt to be better able to solve problems. I am a very socially and politically minded person and always willing to learn, about anything. I am 25 and generally travel by spending as little money as possible. The world has completely opened itself up to me and I am just attempting to absorb everything it has to offer.

How I Participate in CS

I try to share myself and my ideas with others to help promote understanding between cultures and different ways of life. Helping inspire change in the world is very important to me. I also like to help organize meets and events when I can, and if not organize, at least help. I also try and mention if not discuss couchsurfing to others that I feel would be positive members of the CS community. I'm active on the forums and am always willing to offer my what I have learned from my experiences to help the learning of others.

CouchSurfing Experience

For the past two and a half years I've been sleeping outside or in my tent, WWOOFing or Couchsurfing in 8 different countries and many different states! My experiences have been nothing but positive, every host has been amazing, I try to help and give back where I can! I have not yet had a place of my own to host. I have gone to several meetings including the Festival of Light meet in Lyon, France 06 which was amazing, inspiring and I want to attend more.

Interests

Politics, sociology, ecological/biological/organic farms, alternative thinking, biking, traveling, sailing, good conversations, cultures, languages, sustainable living, intentional communities, WWOOFING, couch surfing! Climate change and fighting against Global Warming.

Art and its creation, photography, good conversations, experimentation (I'll try almost anything at least once). Playing soccer (FOOTBALL!) (indoor and outdoor, anytime, anyplace), exercising, playing ultimate frisbee (especially in the mud!), watching good movies (phsychological thrillers are great), building computers, Lan Parties! Partying, good food and cooking, beautiful places (especially natural ones!), dancing, laughing, enjoying life. Camping, backpacking, hiking, rock climbing, yurt trips, white water rafting, trekking up mountains, day-trips to beautiful areas, scuba diving, sailing, swimming, juggling, biking, traveling, new adventures and experiences. Open-mindedness, free-thinking, free-spiritedness, non-conformism, political debate, social theory, invention ideas, utopia theory, theories of population control, mass media, the control of the media, possibilities of extra terrestrial life, out-of-body experiences, discussing dreams, and design (of various areas). Sushi, Japanese culture and Language, also world cultures and languages, I know some Spanish and a little of French, German, and Dutch. I really pay close attention to social interaction, it is of incredible interest to me. Fighting, fighting against injustice, fighting against hypocracy, fighting against repression, fighting against men who abuse women, fighting against assumptions, fighting against closed-mindedness, fighting for whats right, fighting for the truth.

Philosophy

I can gain or learn something from every individual I meet, every situation that I get into, and every place that I come across. Everything has been put into my life for a reason and if I am perceptive and aware enough then I can gain all of the lessons that I need to learn in this lifetime.

Types of People I enjoy

I especially enjoy meeting open-minded people, but really all people of all races of all cultures, ages, etc.. everyone and anyone! People that are true, honest, and themselves; I believe everyone has something that I can learn from them.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach many computer based skills and I have a wide variety of political and social based information to talk about from my studies. I can teach people how to fix their own bikes, how to juggle, and plenty of other useful urban-survival skills. I also know a bit about growing food in different ways, sustainability and permaculture; alternative energy sources and fuels.

One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done

There are so many to recount, I couldn't possibly include them all but I have so many stories!

We spent two days with JC and his wonderful roommates. They were all very hospitable, outgoing and friendly. They know Portland very well and took us on an interesting trip trough the city by bike. It was a lot of fun spending our time with them and we miss the good food, JC cooked for us:)

Nate and I are old college buddies who share many common philosophies, and if I could choose just one travel companion he is second to none. I live in awe and envy of the life he leads. His adventures are nothing less than inspiring. Grand are his ideas, big and bright is his soul. For a truer friend you could not ask.

He lie also the nature, and going around with the bike, everywhere.

JC and Mike came to CS Base Camp to volunteer while they were passing through on their world bike tour. They were so helpful in the short amount of time that they were here. Our bike shack got cleaned, organized and the bikes were put in working order. JC and Mike even helped clean around the house and make dinner in the evenings!

JC is a delight to talk to and hear his stories of travels on bicycles or otherwise. His upbeat spirit and smile defnitely lifted our moods around the house. I am so happy that they stopped by on that fateful day and we were able to put them to work! Thanks JC!

This guy is totally awesome. I was inspired by his adventurous spirit and loved hanging out with him. It was a pleasure to host he and his friend for a few days. He came to see my band play and also taught me some cool stuff. Highly recommended! Welcome any time in my house!

Nate, the man everyone wanted to meet! His reputation preceded him - the guy who was cycling into Barcelona just in time to join the crazy New Years Eve celebrations we had lined up. What a great guy, and what an amazing adventure. Look after him if he cruises thru your town!

Nate is a character and a half! I love the guys outlook on things and his openness for anything. Although we were hanging out as a group, I would have loved to spend some time hanging out with him one-on-one as he seems to be the kind of guy that just has a lot to offer and many crazy stories to tell. Good luck on your travels Nate!

For Nate actions speak louder than words, and he's truly living his ideals as he travels around. It was great to meet the man in the thick of all somewhere along the way on his monumental trip around Europe (and all the rest of the world it seems). He's a lovely guy, always willing to share his thoughts and whatever else he happens to bring along.
