ABOUT ME

wife, mother, grandmother, geek, naturalist, knitter, sewist, DIYer, gardener, cook. Kind of an old hippie at heart, but fully embrace emerging technology.
I am a native Texan and live In Seguin, Texas. It’s a historic town that sits just north of San Antonio and southeast of Austin. I am retired. My husband is a teacher, but semi-retired. I like to spend time outside in the garden or the woods. I volunteer at the local Habitat for Humanity Restore, repairing and restoring vintage sewing machines for sale in the store. I do a bit of that in my spare time as well.

PHILOSOPHY

I have a strong urge to make progress and improve on things, which keeps me busy and I think that’s good for the mind AND body. I believe in giving back. I volunteer: wherever my gifts might help the cause that touches my heart. I am extremely liberal in my politics and religion and freely discuss both. I am open-minded and am without fear (with the exception of rollercoasters). I am naturally curious and still love learning new things.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far couchsurfing has been great! A great way to see new places and meet interesting people with one less barrier to overcome - who to trust. I've met some interesting neighbors and had some equally interesting couchsurfing guests. We don't often travel far away, but our Texas experience has been wonderful. Hosting is fun, great to hear the stories and share a little local color.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have hosted several times and we enjoy it when it works with our schedules. I love feeding people and talking to them. I have met two other CS hosts in our county. One invited us to a party at her house and it was great to see her place in the country only about 20 minutes from us and meet her interesting friends. One I contacted to have coffee and visit when I learned she was just down the road a couple of miles. I am looking forward to meeting more folks in our CS adventure.

So many, hard to name them all. I love old spaghetti westerns, miracle movies, old musicals, adventure movies. I have eclectic taste in music: John Prine, Dusty Springfield, The Gipsy Kings, Amy Winehouse, The Avett Brothers, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Patti Smith, Amanda Palmer, all kinds of World and ethnic music. I love to read, but am often too busy: Stephen Jay Gould, Jack L. Chalker, Julian May.

I spent a summer in Sitka, Alaska one year exercising convalescing Bald eagles.

I am a certified Texas Master Naturalist. I am very familiar with the local flora and fauna and most Texas wildlife in general. I know my way around most of the parks around our parts and love to travel and see species that I don't get to see at home. I am an experienced knitter and sewist - what we used to call a seamstress. And I love to cook - worked in restaurants for many years. I love to garden and raise chickens, just don't have any right now. I used to make wine from the wild native Mustang grapes that grow abundantly, all over central Texas, but I don’t have room for that at this time.
My husband Tom is a genius at history, geography and politics and loves to talk about it.
