About Me

As of June 2019 we will not be able to host, but we hope you enjoy your stay in the city. We try to respond to all inquiries; however, please do not contact us when we are not hosting to ask about future dates.

Chinaski:I'm a laid-back vegetarian who enjoys being creative, seeing what's going on in other places, and finding out how other people have lived life. Also, I'm all about coaching/discussing/watching basketball. (See Interests below)

FX: Dancer, vegetarian, childfree, motorcycle enthusiast, drummer, educator. Pretty easygoing for the most part. I'm good about speaking my mind...

My goal is to eat a meal and sleep in every state in the US and on every continent - hopefully multiple times. I have other goals, but this is a big one.

PHILOSOPHY

FX: "Whatever I do it's never enough" -The Cure

Chinaski: Crack jokes at the least appropriate times.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have a sleeper sofa in the living room that is yours for the surfing. We want to travel and meet other CS'ers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Chinaski: I've couchsurfed quite a few places, usually with FX, plus we've hosted numerous people.

FX: Before formally using CS, I've contacted random bands that were playing in my town and offered them a place to crash. I have played in bands before and been around musicians for as long as I can remember so I know that having a shower, dinner and a place to crash can make all the difference in the world.

Interests

Chinaski: basketball, learning about the theory and practice of coaching (nearly any sport), sports analytics, designing mathematical mechanics to achieve an enjoyable and coherent narrative for tabletop game players, movies, vegetarian lifestyle, reading, writing, punk rock, anything artistic/creative, entrepreneurial pursuits.

FX: Driving my motorcycle, Hiking, Vegetarian/Vegan food, Dogs, Bowling, Beer, Swearing, Dark Chocolate, Deaf Events, Baking, Drumming, KISS, Childfree, JEM and the Holograms, Tattoos, Karaoke, Dancing, Sewing, Hamsters, B-Movies,Ridiculously Enormous Sideburns, The Goodwill, Special FX makeup, Keanu Reeves, Flirting (badly), Learning About Stuff, Braces, Camping, Palmistry, ElfQuest, WTL, Cosplay, Dream Interpretation, Drew and Josh Alan Friedman,The Renaissance Festivals, Guinea Pigs, Salvation Army, Sci-Fi, Power Chords, Cooking, Zomvies, Boots, Wicca, American Sign Language, Burning Man, Yard sales, Moonshine, Bigger Boots, Volunteering, Rock n Roll, Cats, Roller Derby.

Music, Movies, and Books

Chinaski-
Movies: Adaptation, Requieum for a Dream
Music: Bob Dylan, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Rancid
Authors: Vonnegut, Bukowski, Gladwell

FX: If it's old, I like it. I love garage, rock n' roll, I love The Smiths and R&B, I have a decent vinyl collection. I don't read many new books, but Octavia E. Butler is my favorite author. I like Horror, Mafia novels, and weird comics. As far as movies go I like old b-movies from the early eighties on back. The creakier the better!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

FX: There are far too many. This is a conversation best had in person over a beer/tea/wheatgrass shake.

Chinaski: I completed the Tough Mudder (hilly, 12-mile mud run with 25 obstacles designed by British special forces) with my brothers in the summer of 2012 - huge accomplishment considering I hadn't run for about 10 years before training

Teach, Learn, Share

Chinaski: We both know a little ASL (American Sign Language) and would like to know more. I know a lot about entrepreneurial marketing, which often means how to monetize a skill someone has.

FX: One lesson that I learn again and again is to trust yourself. Listen to your instincts.
