About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get a daily dose of sunshine and greet people well.

ABOUT ME

I'm sincere and love to tease, tomboyish and real girlie, humble yet still cocky, confident when I'm not feeling insecure, vegetarian that still craves meat, perfectionist when I get the chaos under order, and I love to socialize when I'm not being shy.

PHILOSOPHY

Keep shit simple.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd like to have the chance to show people what I love about Chicago as they pass through, and I'd like to think that I'll be a little richer in friends because of CS.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have yet to surf, but I have made a few good friends through CS.

Interests

I am completely happy being all alone wandering the city or just by myself reading a book, but I'm SO much happier when I'm with friends! I really like getting to know new people and sharing with them. My interests really vary.

Architecture, building techniques, and styles I can be a bit of a nut about. I see it everywhere: watching movies, at a restaurant eating, driving around--because I work construction I have a deep appreciation for it. I love to look at structures that were built generations ago and think of the tradesman that brought it to existence. I can get totally engrossed in watching programs about old masonry techniques, like pyramids or adobe homes.

In my free time I check out open mics, art galleries, urban murals, go kayaking, and bike riding. I love to create, so I dig crafts and cooking. I fantasize about being as good as those cake pros I see on TV that make thousand dollar cakes.

I'm one of those people that actually use those Do It Yourself books and videos. Oh yea, I learned to tile that way. I grow my own food, on this piddly lil city lot that my house sits on I've grown corn, squash, tomatoes, onions, herbs, melons, greens, potatoes, peaches, and peppers.

Community, demonstrations and protests, movements of solidarity are also important to me. I volunteer with Chicago Women in Trades, a non-profit organization that that exposes girls, teens, and women to the construction trades as a career choice. I volunteer other places with youth or making needed building repairs as the need arises. I like to use my craft to give back, it helps me like a better balanced individual after being on what can be a dirty, grimey, cut throat jobsite.

When I feel like just enjoying the day I'll be bike riding round my neighborhood, visiting with friends, checking out a street festival or under ground concert somewhere, or just plain wandering in my kayak. I am an animal lover and doggie mama.

Music, Movies, and Books

Independent films and documentaries. Oh and silly kid cartoons. Music I vibe to is underground hiphop, pow-wow, Native American drum, world music, samba, son jarocho, plena y son, soul, and so much more. The music Chicago brings to it's streets festivals is absolutely awesome, I'm always finding new artists to appreciate thanks to Chi-town!! like a better balanced individual after being on a dirty, grimey, cut throat jobsite all day.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The enormous crowd at the first annual immigrants right march in Chicago, the sight of so many people flooding the streets of chicago was amazing.

Sky city, Acoma Pueblo, NM

Kayaking 'Skyscraper Canyon', yes it's the filthy Chicago river but, it is a whole different way to see the city I've known my whole life.

I healed a dog used as a bait dog (for illegal dog fighting)back to health. He was the sweetest dog ever. He taught me quite a bit about trust, love, and new beginnings.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to cook and can share recipes with you. I cook everything from Puertorican food, to carrot cakes. I like to try new up-cycling ideas I find on the web, I can show you how to make a clod frame from and old window. I can teach you all the job site talk you'll ever want to know, or how to haggle at the flea market. I can show you what I know of yoga and pilates. I would love to get into sports--volleyball, softball, basketball, lacrosse, anything you can teach me really. I was such a wall flower as a kid I never got into them. It'd be awesome to really learn to dance salsa good. Share your own recipes, culture, and experiences with me, I'm open to it all.
