CURRENT MISSION
Combining our lifestyle of travelling with parenthood. In 2022-2023 we travelled around the world for a year.

ABOUT US:
We are parents of a beautiful 8 year old, named Oz and his little sister, named Zola (6). Oz and Zola are little globetrotter already, as they have joined us on our previous backpack but travels has joined us on our backpack travels already. We raise our kids bilingual.

SHEILA:
My friends say I am a free spirit. I'm passionate about culture and history. I'm of Indonesian descent. I can easily enjoy having a good conversation with a nice cup of tea, but I don't drink alcohol. I'm an active person, very outgoing, straight forward and I can have loads of good laughs.

DENNIS
might be less outgoing than I am, but he's very adventorous and has excellent skills for any sport you can think of. He has been in the army (he's a veteran). Although it sounds like a standard word, he actually is very easy going. Dennis enjoys reading a good book and he's a true philospher. One of his passions is anything that involves movies. Dennis is the one who speaks German.

The both of us don't smoke and barely drink.

OZ:
Speaks Dutch and English. He is easy going, energetic and loves free running and anything active. Oz is born to be a globetrotter. We also introduced him to Couchsurfing, which went extremely well. Oz loves animals, especially reptiles. We are raising him bilingual (Dutch and English).

Zola:
Also speaks Dutch and English. She's very easy going and smiles all day. She's a little daredevil in pink and loves adventures.

PHILOSOPHY
Better to do things in life and regret them, than regret not doing them at all.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We're surfing around the world and we return the favour by hosting. We're still friend with many of our formal hosts.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We've had the best CS experiences. To name a few; enjoyed Texan music at Jana's, ate kangaroo at Vince's, saw a possum at Leesa's, did some fire breathing at Israel's, slept in a basement in Reno and so on. We loved every second of it!

Some of our best friends we've met through CS. With James from Las Vegas we've been travelling together for many times since we've met.

Intereses

SHEILA:
scuba diving, rockcklimbing, surfing, badminton, photography, history, tattoos & piercings, touring my motorcycle (Intruder), cooking, blogging, reading and most important, backpacking! I love horseback riding, even though I don't do it often. I am a culture nerd and love to do anything cultural interesting.

DENNIS' hobbies & interests:
watching movies, reading a good book, writing, meditation, badminton, Star Wars, playing golf, scuba diving, tattoos, touring on his bike (Shadow Ace), movie making and backpacking of course.

The both of us love playing board games, visiting museums, comic cons and theme parks.

We've got more than 24 years of backpacking.

To name a few great memories: fire breathing with our host in Australia, scuba diving while being surrounded by sharks in the Great Barrier Reef, being blessed by monks close to the Thai/Laos border, feeling like Lara Croft while exploring the temples in Angkor (Cambodia), having multiple International Cuisines with our international CS friends at our place, getting tattooed on our travels, meeting strangers and decide to travel together for weeks or months, horseback riding in Monument Valley (USA), spending the night on the deck of a boat in Ha Long Bay (Vietnam), but above all: becoming parents!

Teach: Cooking Dutch or Indonesian dishes, archery, badminton (if there's no wind).

Share: personal, but also practical knowledge about tourism as Sheila has been a travel agent for many years and a backpacker for over 24 years now. You can be our co-pilot on our motorbikes.

Learn: more photography and filming skills, sign language, Bahasa Indonesia, how to feed a python, new dishes to cook.

We can share heaps of (travel) stories and a good meal. And we can advise you how to travel with a kid.
