Besides the obvious benefit of not having to pay for accommodation, CouchSurfing allows travellers to experience a country and its culture from within, instead of just as an observer. Inevitably, a CouchSurfing host will introduce you to his or her friends, and take you to the places that they enjoy. Basically, you can become part of their life for the time you're visiting. I promise your life will be richer through your membership to CouchSurfing." |

I will always remember bumping into Petr and Fabian in La Rambla like if I was a local .. Petr's unbelievable Russian generosity .. Fabian the amazing young German .. Amanda's talks and sharing secrets like old friends (and breaking so many stereotypes in such a lil time) .. Kata showing me all Budapest in less than 3 hours .. Sweet Hanna showing up "twice" in Vienna to save my trip, Tanja devotion to give a great ending to my Vienna trip .. Wandering around Bratislava with Ada (and Ada's smile) .. Thomas who referred me to his girlfriend Alexandra to host me when he was away from Vienna .. Feeling home with lovely Denise in Stockholm ..
As Sudanese/Africans, we learn - the hard way - not to expect much .. so it doesn't take much to satisfy us, just a nice gesture can be enough .. therefore I don't exaggerate when I think of each one of the CSers I met as a real friend, and each of these experiences as extremely positive .. CS - for me - is about these priceless short joyful moments that I appreciate and will never forget!" |

And the yellow school buses, "Just like in the movies" and the crazy colorful birthday cakes that they don't have in Germany. Everything is fantastic and alive to them and they bring that energy to you and it's contagious, then all of a sudden you're a world traveler right along side them and you're having just as much fun as they are -- the world comes to you. You go to work in the morning leaving your precious couchsurfers to explore the city, then you come home at night and they tell you all they're amazing experiences and all the crazy things that happened, the mistakes they made, the strange people who talked to them, the food they tried, the places they went to, etc., etc.. Then you take them out and show them around to something or you make dinner with them, and answer their questions about Americans. And they tell you all about their country and how it is different there and teach you how to speak their language. It's so great I can't say enough. It's changed my life forever, and the people I've met have become like soul brothers and sisters to me. Like no other. Amazing." |

View my profile | "Couch Surfing has put my faith back into humanity and has changed my life. For me, CS represents trust, friendship, energy, connection & interaction - all great philosophies to live by! Through CS, I've met so many like-minded, wonderfully generous & unconditionally trusting people. Who would want to stay in a lonely & sterile hotel when you can be thrust into the lives & homes of locals - eating, drinking, talking, laughing, dancing, learning, exploring & enjoying?!? You could pay me to stay in a hotel and I'd still rather couch surf - the experience is invaluable! I'm still always surprised when people react negatively to the concept of CS. Why would anybody NOT want to do it? It really brings the world closer together and provides you with with brilliant new instant friends in undiscovered lands! With CS, there is no ice that needs breaking - an instant connection is already established. Social & cultural barriers don't play a role - just humans helping each other. How primal yet beautiful! People need to step outside of their comfort zone and not worry so much about everything -just go with it! People wait a lifetime for moments that CS provides all the time...like being on the back of a Vespa heading towards my 'couch' only 5 minutes after meeting my host. Awesome! These random CS moments are what life is all about! I am so greatful to have found CS - my travels have taken on a totally new perspective because of it. Thank you to everybody involved!" |

I speak with people that say "I couldn't do that [either host or surf]" and I realise that all of you are a breed apart.
CS is a whirlpool of altruism and empathy. Dive on in!" |
